Good news for #Pirates: Starling Marte (hand) is taking swings in batting cage on field right now.

  4. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    TUESDAY OVER/UNDER!!!

Now that the Pirates have won #82, those of you who “wagered” on the line at the beginning of the year will see those “wagers” factored in on the next standings update.

******PLEASE READ WHAT IS WRITTEN BELOW******
PLEASE PLACE YOUR “WAGERS” AS REPLIES IN THIS COMMENT BOX
Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

NEW PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME & ENCOURAGED!!

    Tonight’s Line
Total STRIKEOUTS THROWN by Francisco Liriano in tonight’s game
    Line is 7.5

    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Wild Card Magic Number: 12

KEEP CALM & MAKE THE PLAYOFFS

  5. Nice adjustment on your entry, Playoffs.

  6. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Been waiting to do that for awhile.
    Thanks for noticing :)

  7. Brandie says:

May I have 50 on the under please? Thank you.

  8. JohninOshkosh says:

50 Hangover aspirins and salty Taco Bell tacos (hangover food of choice for me) on the OVER.

  9. Brandie says:

Texas is misspelled again. Feeling a bold reaming coming on.

  10. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I was friends with an “entertainer” who spelled her name that way.

  11. Brandie says:

Nice adjustment to your window post. Now we’re talkin’ magic numbers!

  12. JohninOshkosh says:

I think a lot of us had the same thought: that win last night no doubt loosened the club up. Hopefully, a win streak will ensue.

Did anyone notice that “Quick Pitch” on MLB Network featured a shot of the Trib’s wonderful 82 cover ?

  13. Karen22 says:

50 #82’s on the OVER, please!

  14. TCB says:

    Over for 75, please.

  15. JohninOshkosh says:

If I ever meet you, remind me to have you introduce me to your friends.

  16. Brandie says:

As a black lady I know some men dig a healthy “back porch” as my Daddy says!

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  18. Nate83 says:

I hope the final line gets adjusted at least a few more time this year. Hopefully during the upcoming homestand is the next time.

  19. DavidGalbraith says:

    Love this lineup!

  20. Arriba Wilver says:

And he says he reads all posts, Brandie. ;-)

  21. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    You and me both!

  22. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Magical isn’t it?
    :)

  23. Wild Bill says:

Even from all the way down here at the ranch, I’m glad it was your Daddy who said that and you who repeated it and not me.

  24. Arriba Wilver says:

Beats having Buck. And they have experience together from Liriano’s rehab. I’d prefer Martin, but he can’t catch every game (unfortunately).

  25. Nate83 says:

MLB Network does a nice job except for Ripkin (I can’t put my finger on why I don’t care for him). ESPN not so much. Then again they find it necassary to force feed us 20 minutes of analysis of Monday Night Football games only leaving the baseball guys 5 minutes to talk about 15 games so it’s not really those guys fault. However they work for ESPN so they are to blame.

  26. Playoffs by 2012 says:

If you have a time machine handy, we could have some real fun.
Alas my glory days are past me now.

    I’m reformed these days.

  27. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Amen!

  28. Nate83 says:

I can’t tell if that is sarcasm. Some will hate it. I actually don’t mind it. I understand the lefty match ups but find it a little odd that we get to play with a DH and we have the likes of Walker, Jones and Morneau on our bench.

  29. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Billy Ripken had on of the greatest baseball cards ever.

  30. NMR says:

The only thing I find odd is that Hurdle didn’t just go all the way.

If Walker, Jones, and Morneau don’t belong (and they don’t), then Pedro doesn’t either.

Putting Harrison at 3B, Barmes at SS, and Mercer at 2B improves your defense without harming offense.

  31. NMR says:

But have they told the truth yet about the injury? :)

  32. Arriba Wilver says:

Walker and Jones don’t hit lefties too well. Perfectly understandable. A DH is usually someone who can’t field. Or in this case, Martin, who can’t catch everyday. Because of it being the AL, it is curious about Morneau, but maybe Clint was reading the morning blog. ;-)

  33. Nate83 says:

I assume you are referring to the card that had something written on the baseball bat.

  34. Lad 9 says:

BRANIMAL!!!! I love a good discussion on house architecture. I also enjoy well designed double bay windows in the front of the house.

  35. Brandie says:

    I do not offend easily.

  36. Lad 9 says:

Will take the over for 100 winning records please. Thanks Playoffs. Go Buccos!

  37. Wild Bill says:

Maybe Hurdle doesn’t want to sit him when his rbi won last night’s game?

  38. AJS says:

Morneau can’t hit lefties any better than Jones. And I mean Jones at his best. They showed his average against lefties when he played a lefty reliever the other night and they were awful. Sanchez hits lefties very well. I was just asking a coworker about this platoon this morning.

I agree with NMR though. Why not sit Alvarez as well?

  39. Dom says:

    25 OVER!!!

    THANKS!!!

  40. AJS says:

More likely he doesn’t want to sit him because they are still insisting that he is an every day player even though his splits are awful.

I don’t know about JaHay playing third improving your defense though. I get that Petey commits some errors. but I don’t think JaHay gets to as many balls as Petey. Of course you add Barmes at short which is a defensive upgrade to Mercer so maybe it is a wash.

  41. Playoffs by 2012 says:

My parents took that card away from me as a youngster and threw it out.

  42. Wild Bill says:

That’s good but: I simply know that if I were to offer such an opinion out loud, a prolonged and painful death process would befall me. There wouldn’t be much left even for the buzzards.

  43. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window. Been busy getting caught up have not had a chance to celebrate #82 – YES! Humors me that the team’s whipping boy is the player that hits the RBI double, his team high 88th, to secure the 1-0 win on the fine pitching of #1 pick Gerrit Cole, who may just turn out to be an ace after all.

Nonetheless, it was a big win off of a much needed pitching performance. Now for the bats to start to awaken.

    50 on the UNDER

    Thanks and Let’s GO Bucs!

  44. NMR says:

My defensive improvement comment was assuming Barmes-Mercer up the middle was superior to Mercer-Harrison.

Actually, I don’t even know if that can be considered an assumption. What a miserable pairing up the middle.

  45. AJS says:

But I guess if you are ignoring position and just saying Barmes is a better fielder than Petey period and an equivalent hitter when it comes to lefties then the argument becomes clearer.

  46. Wild Bill says:

You do??? Can’t you get arrested for that?

  47. AJS says:

I don’t like Jahay anywhere on defense. Or offense for that matter.

To think that Walker has sunk to such a low against lefties to the point where we would rather see Harrison in there instead is almost embarrassing.

  48. Nate83 says:

It seems like you turned out OK so it must have been good parenting. I bet they had a good laugh and your dad showed it to some friends before throwing it out.

  49. NMR says:

    Especially considering Neil’s defensive improvements.

  50. Nate83 says:

JRay3, I agree. 88 RBI is 88 RBI you don’t just accidentily play yourself into that many RBI on a team this mediocre at best on offense. He seems to be worse then others on the team with runners on base but that is only because he strikes out instead of flying out or grounding out. The end result is no worse then the other players. A strike out is just more frustrating then a lazy fly ball or ground out.

  51. Arriba Wilver says:

That was my point about the morning blog. ;-)

  52. theplanisworking says:

Man, the counting you Kentuckians can do………… ;)

  53. Drew71 says:

I wonder if the Steelers will next cross above .500 in 2033.

    I know. I know. It’s a Pirates thread.

We downtrodden football fans need to stop making everything about the Steelers.

  54. JD says:

    100 on the over please.

    Go Bucs!

  55. Brandie says:

You must like a Brick House then.

    Mighty Mighty!

  56. Brandie says:

    Not from me dude.

  57. theplanisworking says:

Not if you keep the windows clean………

  58. theplanisworking says:

Just lettin’ it ALL hang out !! ;)

  59. Wild Bill says:

    ….just lettin’ it all….never mind.

  60. theplanisworking says:

So, you like the carport attached to the back porch, eh?
Never knew you were into remodeling projects………

  61. Stuart says:

Playoffs, 100 on the over please

    Stuart

  62. I have a couple of them, including the one with nothing over the nub of the handle. Awesome phrase on it about him.

  63. Wild Bill says:

That got the Hippo out of the pond!

  64. theplanisworking says:

Hey, Tex has an a$$ too! :)

  65. Karen22 says:

    JHay’s playing 2nd…

  66. Playoffs by 2012 says:

To this day, I’ll go over to my parents house for dinner every month or so,
and if Billy Ripken comes on the tube,
she’ll always laugh and say “isn’t he the one with the f#$k face card I threw out?”

  67. blazer says:

100 on the over please. Texas seems to swing a lot at the balls in the dirt which fit Frankie L very well.

  68. theplanisworking says:

    GO RIVERPUPPIES !!! ;)

  69. Karen22 says:

Oh-never mind. You’re talking about a hypothetical, not tonight’s lineup.

  70. theplanisworking says:

    LOL !!

Just poppin in, will be back for the game.

  71. blazer says:

Looking back through our scores from this year and I believe I found we are 5-1 in games that end 1-0. Seems that would be close to even in most cases and points to the great job our pitching staff has done this year.

  72. theplanisworking says:

May I have 50 ” End the REAL streak (34 years) ” Hippos on the OVER !!

Thanks you, keep calm, chill, whatever, and win a WS.

  73. Drew71 says:

I knew someone would ruin this string with soccer

  74. Brandie says:

    AND WE’RE OFF!

  75. Lad 9 says:

Will take a well built brick house every time!

  76. theplanisworking says:

    :D

Go pep yourself up with some pumpkin ale.

  77. Brandie says:

    She’s a Cape Cod!

    With Plantation Shutters…

Is that G rated enough for yinz?

  78. theplanisworking says:

I prefer colonials with BIG dormers !!! ;)

    Later Brandimal plantation !

  79. Arriba Wilver says:

You’re cruising for a bold reaming, Mister.

  80. Wild Bill says:

It’s a miracle the Nun hasn’t shown up to rap all our knuckles with a ruler.

  81. JaxBuc says:

Please sir, may I have 100 franKs on the OVER?

  82. theplanisworking says:

    Arent we all?

  83. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    BOOM!!!!!

  84. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    100 on the Under.

  85. Arriba Wilver says:

It’s become a badge of honor.

  86. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Tejas……..though I prefer the extra s on the end.

  87. Drew71 says:

“You’re cruising for a bold reaming, Mister.”

Is that related to my colonoscopy comment?

  88. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    This is awesome!

  89. Arriba Wilver says:

I thought it had something to do with “Full House.”

  90. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Wonder if his brother wrote that on there.

  91. The Gunner says:

100 on the over for the ol’ Gunner

  92. SlackBoss says:

Have the Pirates won a game yet with Buck as catcher? For a guy with a rep for good blocking skills, he has whiffing on a lot of balls in the dirt. (and by whiffing, I mean missing with his glove).

  93. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I would rather see Harry at 3B than 2B.

  94. Arriba Wilver says:

I have to go with 100 on the OVER.

I do think it’s interesting that 150 made the top 5 list for September. And I’m not on it.

  95. Brandie says:

Our resident nun curses. Not thinking we will get knuckle rapping’s or bold readings from that one!

  96. Brandie says:

    Reamings!!! Stupid Auto Correct!

  97. MadTurk says:

    Here here!

  98. Wondered that myself.

  99. Steelag70 says:

    Your daddy is right Brandimal!

  100. cosmo says:

100 magic numbers on the over

  101. Bob Hasis says:

OK, I can’t trust Biertempfel, Hurdle, NH, with telling the truth. So I will leave up to one of you “geniuses”. What happened to Marte’s hand?

You have 30 seconds – although you’re not on Jeopardy.

  102. Brandie says:

Apparently my husband is one of those back porch afficianados.

  103. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

It hurts, probably a little swollen too.

  104. Arriba Wilver says:

This will explain it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nHlZml7h7g enjoy

  105. JohnH says:

    Lets Go Bucs!!

  106. Bill Born says:

    100 on the under please.

  108. Karen22 says:

  110. Brandie says:

    Good Evening. Mr. Hasis.

  111. theplanisworking says:

100 Cole units on the under please. Go Bucs!

  120. Jandy says:

Tired…ready to relax and watch the shenanigans ;)

  121. JohninOshkosh says:

I had to deal with a bat in the house today. Sitting on the couch and it started flying around my ceiling fan. My wife was out of there faster than Cutch heading for third. Took me awhile but I finally shooed the creepy little basta** out the door. But I had to dodge his crazy flying. Gave me the heebie jeebies, that’s for sure.

Not sure what kind of sign that is for the Buccos.

  122. JohninOshkosh says:

Cubs are embracing that spoiler role. Hope they lose that when they play the Bucs.

  123. Jandy says:

Most bats are harmless critters. I’ll take it as a good sign :)

  124. Arriba Wilver says:

Not many posters. Is there a Steeler game on?

  125. theplanisworking says:

Well, being they are playing batsh&t crazy, and WE are all batsh&t crazy, I would say it is a good omen.

    :D

  126. Jandy says:

    Haha temptress Karen!

  127. theplanisworking says:

Well, put your top down, dust off your back porch, and enjoy !!!!

Oh, and I saw you and others got me 12 more nicknames on the morning blog.
I am going to need an encyclopedia to keep up. ;)

  128. Barb says:

    Good evening ladies!

  129. JohninOshkosh says:

    Sons of Anarchy premiers tonight.

  130. theplanisworking says:

Everyone is bloated from the celebration last night.

And, EYE am keeping an EYE on the USA-Mexico soccer match.
    Seriously.

  131. Milo Hamilton says:

Something to remember about Liriano’s up and down streak. All 3 of the bad starts have come on the road.

  132. theplanisworking says:

I am not a lady, but Good Evening Barb.

    Welcome to the nuthouse.

  133. Barb says:

Hipposter it is so good to be here this evening.

  134. Lad 9 says:

Hippo I loved the dormer line. I couldn’t choose between the bay windows and the dormers, and I chose wrong.

Definitely frisky tonight Karen. Has been like that every time the Pirates won 82 games… ;)

  135. Jandy says:

Everybody is still tipsy from last night’s celebration :D

  136. Jandy says:

Welcome PittMI! Pull up a chair n sit a spell.:)

  137. theplanisworking says:

I used to run a home improvement store.
When I saw you say bay windows, I cracked up.

But it is all good……… just keep building til you get it right. ;)

  138. Lad 9 says:

Jandy I hope the harmless bats line doesn’t apply to our Buccos this evening. Oy vay!

  139. theplanisworking says:

    Glad to have ya.

  140. Jandy says:

Biz! Add Battlecreek Michigan to the Lunatics’ list :)

  142. Brandie says:

    It’s all my fault! :-)

  143. Bob Hasis says:

  144. theplanisworking says:

  153. Brandie says:

They’re hustling just for you, Mr. Hasis. It is amazing the players you connect with. For me, it’s Cutch, Van Slyke, and Madlock from my youth.

  154. Jandy says:

    Howdy Eric!

  155. theplanisworking says:

    Lush for a Nun.
    Who knew?

  156. Bob Hasis says:

Geez if it weren’t for double plays, Tabby wouldn’t have anything to hit into

  157. The Gunner says:

That’s great, hopefully they hold on & crush the Reds. Too bad the Bucs just squandered a nice opportunity.

  158. JohninOshkosh says:

    Definitely!

Still remember mailing my box tops for giveaways to Battle Creek!

  159. Jandy says:

    hey it’s Barb :)

  160. Bob Hasis says:

    Everything amazes me

  161. Lad 9 says:

    Key word being fool…

  162. Eric Bowser says:

same here, flipping back and forth between baseball and soccer.

  163. The Gunner says:

    Bob

Hopefully, Tabby’s gonna be a short timer in LF & Marte will get back in there.

  164. Bob Hasis says:

Brandie do you not realize there is a strong touch of irony – and a little stone breaking associated with my thoughts and entries?

  165. theplanisworking says:

    Sure is. :D

  166. Jandy says:

Lush nun in a topless Shelby…oh the boldness of me! ;)

  167. theplanisworking says:

    2 things I always did as a kid………….

    Sent boxtops to Battle Creek,
sent candy cards to Boyer Candy (Mallo Cups).

    Good times.

  168. Brandie says:

    GO CUBBIES!

    Feels so wrong to say!

  169. Bob Hasis says:

. . .and Good Evening to you also

  170. Lad 9 says:

  171. theplanisworking says:

You wild and crazy gal !!

  172. Jandy says:

Stone breaking…is THAT what you call it??

  173. Lad 9 says:

Thinking the same thing. Tabby’ s shelf life is very short.

  174. Barb says:

    Yes I’m back! :)

  175. Lad 9 says:

The Crüe is in the house!

  176. Barb says:

  177. Brandie says:

At times and at times I am either thicker than a forest full of redwoods or I feel like messing with ya! :-)

  178. Barb says:

I think Tabby is cooling off. Come back soon Marte to the partay.

  179. theplanisworking says:

  181. theplanisworking says:

    Well, he is 37…………

  182. Bob Hasis says:

    OK then we are even.

However which was it in this case?

  183. Barb says:

Oh to be 37 again. :/

  184. Brandie says:

Patience with him runs from slim to none.

  185. theplanisworking says:

Sanchez forgot to flash the Z.
    We’re doomed.

  186. Jandy says:

Did they wear the black habits?

  187. Brandie says:

Just messin ‘ with ya Mr. Hasis. :-)

    Oops. :-)

  189. Jandy says:

  190. Patrick(ri) says:

He also forgot to take 3rd.

  191. JohninOshkosh says:

    VALUE 10 COMICS

  192. Bob Hasis says:

Well just having some fun with certain people, but there are other references, for example stone is interchangeable

  193. 21sthebest says:

Sanchez needs to get his head out of his behind:

    – Should’ve let the bunt go foul
    – Should’ve advanced to third
    – Should’ve slid.

  194. theplanisworking says:

    Tomorrow, Jandy, tomorrow…………. ;)

  195. Bob Hasis says:

Did Sanchez touch home yet? I missed it

  196. Lad 9 says:

Navy blue. Sisters of the order of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And probably honorary members of the Johnny Walker society.

  197. Jandy says:

School of hard knocks doesn’t even penetrate some hard heads lol

  198. Barb says:

No but we got a freebie. Stepped on the catcher’s foot and the catcher was charged with an error.

  199. Jandy says:

    No way!

  200. Jay H says:

….and he’s laughing it up in the dugout like a 12 year old on Christmas. Obviously no one has said anything to him about his miscues….

  201. 21sthebest says:

    No.

  202. Patrick(ri) says:

I love Walk, but for the life of me, I don’t see why a player has to be a MLB veteran to take 3rd when it is undefended?

  203. Brandie says:

Even when we score, there’s unintended drama.

  204. Jandy says:

    Hooey phooey! :P

  205. Brandie says:

Sounds like the name of a bar…The Drunken Nun.

  206. Patrick(ri) says:

Wow, nice pitches to Kinsler. Looks like Dr Jeckel is on the mound tonight.

  207. Jandy says:

They were so frustrated they just HAD to drown it all with SOMETHING ;)

  208. Barb says:

If not for the drama it would be so boring.

  209. Jandy says:

    Lol Brandecita!

  210. Brandie says:

I can remember getting 4 of those boats you filled with baking powder out of 1 box of Frosted Flakes. Good times!

  211. Jandy says:

    Nice rundown Francisco!

  212. Brandie says:

So the drama is a freebie.

  213. theplanisworking says:

    The Drunken Nun………………….
    both a bar, and Jandy.

    :D

  214. Patrick(ri) says:

    Make that Jekyll.

  215. KenKopp says:

Frankie L. is looking good tonight. Dang it really feels good to be rooting for a winning team after this many years.

  216. theplanisworking says:

Remember that sight the next time it takes him 5 minutes to reach first. :)

  217. Barb says:

Have to get our entertainment from somewhere.

  218. Jandy says:

Alas, I usually fall asleep before I can claim drunkeness lol

  219. Barb says:

At least we know he can turn on the jets. Needs to do it on the base paths.

  220. 21sthebest says:

Except that it was a poorly executed rundown.

  221. Jandy says:

    Hey hey it’s Revvie!

  222. Jandy says:

What do you want, 21?? Egg in your beer?or salt in your Margarita??

  223. Jandy says:

    Oops forgot the ;)

  224. theplanisworking says:

    Its Reverend Jose Feliciano-Tucky!

    Welcome, Senor Luck.

  225. theplanisworking says:

    Its Reverend Jose Feliciano-Tucky!

    Welcome, Senor Luck.

  226. Milo Hamilton says:

Laura just told W he can have ice cream if he’s good.

  227. theplanisworking says:

I thought the blog was enuff. ;)

  228. Jandy says:

    :snicker:

  229. Just got home a little bit ago from mowing the church lawn and find we have a lead.

Looks good and it’s only the 4th inning.

  230. Brandie says:

    Revvie! Good Evening!

  231. Barb says:

    What flavor?!?!?!

  232. Brandie says:

I think the Bawdy one means entertainment we do not have to generate.

  233. Jandy says:

Liriano is doing fine. Boys are hangin in there. Added bonus: Jordy with 2 hits

  234. 21sthebest says:

I want a rundown with one throw!

And a margarita with a beer chaser.

  235. theplanisworking says:

    Brandie….. this stuff writes itself ! ;)

  236. Brandie says:

Go Frankie. The defense seems solid tonight!

  237. 21sthebest says:

Kinda reminds me of ARod and Cameron Diaz.

  238. kr70 says:

jordy is as good as benched for tomorrow

  239. Jandy says:

    Comin’ right up! ;)

  240. Lad 9 says:

    And salt.

  241. Jandy says:

    Jordy thinks he’s Cutch tonight

  242. theplanisworking says:

    CUTCH again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 good guys.

  243. Jandy says:

    Aaannnnnddd Cutch brings him in!

  244. theplanisworking says:

    HA!!!

  245. Jandy says:

    Yowsah!

  246. Lad 9 says:

    Yee haw!

  247. Jandy says:

    Salt it is!

  248. Barb says:

Love, love, love 2 out lightening.

  249. At least Cutch came through to get the first legitimate run in. I’ll take the freebie too, but at least they can blame everything on the umps. Great call by the first base ump earlier, too – the right call.

  250. Thundercrack says:

It looks like Mercer would run faster if he got his arms & legs in sync when running
His arms fly all over the place when he runs

  251. Brandie says:

We should be making money with this!

  252. theplanisworking says:

And the hits keep coming !!!

    3-0 good guys!

  253. Jandy says:

    Oh man…nice!

  254. Thundercrack says:

Leyva = Third Base Coach of the Year

  255. KenKopp says:

Hee! Hee! Hee! Leyva waves a man home.

  256. Lad 9 says:

Leyva aggressive there. I thought Cutch was dead. Miserable throw. Love it!

  257. Cutch with the speed scores run #3, but should have been dead at home with better throw.

  258. Brandie says:

    C’MON BREWERS!

    That felt even worse!

  259. Jandy says:

oh. My. Goodness. Wild pitch…another run!

  260. theplanisworking says:

And, the Byrd flies home on a wild pitch. (which I thought was related to soccer).

    4-0 good guys !!!

  261. Brandie says:

    BYRRRRRRRRRRRRRD MAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN!

  262. Jandy says:

    Troublemaker! ;)

  263. KenKopp says:

Hee! Hee! Those days are over Brandie. Feel good.

  264. theplanisworking says:

    Paging Mr. Hasis! ;)

  265. Jandy says:

If you say he runs like a girl I’ll :thwap: you.:P

  266. Milo Hamilton says:

About gave me a heart attack there.

  267. Brandie says:

Gotcha Double K. I guess I can be charitable.

  268. Jandy says:

Milo did u remember to take your meds for that???

  269. Lad 9 says:

I have a feeling that AJ Pierzynski, who is not the most stable of characters and one of the biggest horses patoots in MLB, will blow his stack and get tossed if he has to deal with any more adversity today. He looks ready to erupt.

  270. Lad 9 says:

    It still feels funny.

  271. theplanisworking says:

You just insulted horses patoots, mister !

  272. theplanisworking says:

You just insulted horses patoots, mister !

  273. Thundercrack says:

I am always saying that most throws from the outfield are horrible. Why outfielders aren’t more accurate and / or throw harder is beyond me. It should be taught and practiced.

If that throw from RF is anywhere near the plate, Cutch is a dead duck

  274. Lad 9 says:

I guess I did. We are focused on hind ends this evening, aren’t we?

  275. Milo Hamilton says:

    Yes, I’m properly medicated.

  276. Jandy says:

Well then maybe we should plunk him????

  277. theplanisworking says:

    HA!!!

  278. Arriba Wilver says:

    He runs like a girl.

  279. Jandy says:

That’s back porches, sir, if you please!

  280. Milo Hamilton says:

    Can I throw in a c’mon Mets while we’re at it ?

  281. Jandy says:

As it is he’ll live to quack another day…

  282. Lad 9 says:

That would be neat to watch. Don’t like him much.

  283. Milo Hamilton says:

    Gotta make that play.

  284. theplanisworking says:

Notice he isnt saying WHICH medicated. ;)

  285. Jandy says:

    Sure Milo, why not?

  286. Patrick(ri) says:

After picking on him in earlier posts, it is worth noting that Sanchez looks pretty good behind the plate. It also appears he can hit a little. At worst, a very capable back-up, no matter where he keeps his head.

  287. DJ says:

Absolutely hate the overuse of the controlled slide.

  288. Cutch tries to catch that as a basket catch and he makes the catch, instead they get a run for a 4-1 Bucs lead.

  289. Milo Hamilton says:

Costs them a run but only 3 extra pitches.

  290. KenKopp says:

That is not charity Kiddo. We are in a pennant race. Root like heck for whatever makes us in a better place. Go Brew Crew. Go Cubs. That felt great! Go Bucs! That feels awesome!

  291. Jandy says:

Makes two of us. Can’t stand his condescending attitude…reminds me of Barry friggin Bonds

  292. 21sthebest says:

    Throws like one too.

  293. Lad 9 says:

I stand corrected. Does that mean the veranda is around the front? :)

  294. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  295. Wild Bill says:

Copious cabooses are in vogue this evening.

  296. Jandy says:

Saw Tony a few times in Altoona…he’s not too shabby :)

  297. El Hippo Dorko!

The artist formerly known as Juan Hippolito.

    Happy 82 Day!

  298. theplanisworking says:

    Right below the Dormers………… ;)

  299. And to you and Jandecita.

  300. theplanisworking says:

    2-0 USA in soccer.
The British announcer is having a heart attack describing the goal………….

  301. Wild Bill says:

    Sorry to disappoint you, Tc.

  302. Jandy says:

    Hey hey Wild Man!

  303. Milo Hamilton says:

    Is it Ian Darke ?

  304. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, I think?

  305. Milo Hamilton says:

It is indeed. Love that guy.

  306. Jandy says:

    Pass the bloke some Nitro!

  307. theplanisworking says:

    Didnt pay that much attention.
They all sound the same…………. ;)

  308. Milo Hamilton says:

If the Nationals keep this up & make the playoffs, Jayson Werth has to be in the MVP discussion.

  309. That’s Jandy’s moniker of the day for you.

  310. Wild Bill says:

Isn’t this a baseball game thread?

  311. Jandy says:

    :THWAP:

  312. Jandy says:

    :THWAP:

  313. theplanisworking says:

    That explains much.

    I call her a dork, and I get the nickname…….. :(

  314. DJ says:

Jarvis Jones starting next Monday. No surprise there. Worilds was awful Sunday, buried on consecutive running plays on the Titans TD, to the point he was actually out of the TV picture when each play was over.

    Not to be critical.

  315. theplanisworking says:

Hey, EYE am trying to keep the soccer flames alive !!!

  316. Jandy says:

    Revvie!

  317. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  318. Jandy says:

Lol Hipposter I love it when you pout ;)

  319. pattonbb says:

Sure, he’s in the discussion. Right behind Cutch, Molina, Freeman, Goldschmidt, Kershaw, and Puig.

  320. The Giants have hired Barry U.S. Bonds as their outfield throwing coach.

He’ll make 2 million a season and have his own personal trainer in the dugout with him.

  321. theplanisworking says:

    HA!!!!!

  322. Arriba Wilver says:

    Sean Lee.

  323. DJ says:

Check that. Jones is a “co-starter” at the OLB position with Worilds, whatever that means.

Probably a derivation of Tomlin’s “two dogs, one bone” motivational head game.

  324. Jandy says:

    Friggin P*ssie

  325. JRay3 says:

Strong performance being turned in by Liriano tonight, even better it is on the road. In line for his 16th win in 23 starts just impressive.

Pirates makeshift lineup of all righties plus Pedro does its job and knocks Perez out of game early giving bats a few chances at Ranger pen to put game away.

Strong bounce back from a team that did not play good ball in St Louis, but may gain some momentum as they close in on the upcoming 11 game home stand.

  326. DJ says:

    Agreed, AW.

Saw the series of posts on that topic recently and was trying to recall Lee’s health situation at the time. Did Lee not have a serious knee injury and miss a year or so before he came all the way back, or am I confusing him with another PSU linebacker?

  327. Jandy says:

friends I’m gonna watch rest of the game upstairs…I’m tired. Catch yinz tomorrow…go Bucs!

  328. Thundercrack says:

And we know that the other shortstop is Hurdle’s boy

  329. Milo Hamilton says:

Smart money’s sure on the 1st two guys you listed.

  330. STL up 2-0 but, Cubs up 8-0.

  331. Arriba Wilver says:

Don’t know, but I’d take his part time contribution over Woriild’s. Just to be clear, I live in Upper St Clair and saw Sean throughout his career here.

  332. Barb says:

    Night Jandy.

  333. Barb says:

    Who is STL playing?

  334. JRay3 says:

Cards first hit of the night comes in 6th and is a Holliday two run HR.

    Cards 2, Brewers 0 Top 7

Cubs pounding Reds 9-0, Reds about to drop second consecutive at home versus lowly Chicago and lost their starter Cingrani early in game with back flare up.

  335. cosmo says:

I think we missed that ship a few years ago.

  336. Lad 9 says:

He had an ACL but I believe he had a clean senior year in 2009. And even worse, he played both inside and outside LB in college, so the Steelers can’t use that excuse.

  337. pattonbb says:

I agree, but those hated Braves might only be in second place without Freeman.

  338. Milo Hamilton says:

You’re listening to too much of their propaganda down there. At one point tonight, Werth led the NL in batting average, slugging & OPS. He’s quietly having a great season.

  339. KenKopp says:

Night girl. Sweet dreams. PNC Park packed for a World Series game. Sweet dreams.

  340. DJ says:

From your photo, I thought it was Longfellow Road, Emerson Hill, NY.

Btw, my favorite movie of all time.

  341. DJ says:

That’s what I thought, Lad. I’m just wondering if the Steelers, knowing his medical history, steered clear.

Then again, they probably should have evaluated Sean like Hines Ward. I seem to recall two major knee procedures before Hines was drafted.

  342. Milo Hamilton says:

Nats win again. Here they come.

  343. The Drunks from Milwaukee.

  344. Tom P. says:

I was worried about the Nats easy schedule. Hopefully a Pirates win makes the magic number 11.

  345. Lad 9 says:

AW I live in Bethel and I coached against him in grade school basketball. He was literally the best defensive player I have ever seen. Great high school hooper too Completely relentless. Later on I got to know his family a little bit when our daughter’s played AAU hoops together and they are good folks too. Very glad to see him succeed. Just wish it was in black and gold.

  346. JRay3 says:

If Bucs hold on will be 8 up with 18 to play and Reds would have 6 game lead. Half of Nats remaining games against Braves, Cards and Dbacks so that would be quite the story if they did pull off as pretty long odds they face.

  347. pattonbb says:

Guilty as charged. Freeman’s no MVP, but he quickly becoming one of my favorite Braves. Actually, he’s my only favorite Brave. Well, since Bob Horner left.

Worth is a stud, but doesn’t he take about a month-month and a half off each season?

  348. JRay3 says:

A Starling Marte sighting, nice to see him back out there and contributing, SB #36.

  349. Lad 9 says:

Yep. Hell Hines played his entire career without an ACL. The Steelers forgot what Hines should have taught them. When choosing between the “athlete” and the football player, take the football player and don’t look back. They probably got enamored with World’ “potential” and forgot that lesson.

  350. Milo Hamilton says:

I just think back to the Braves & Red Sox 2 years ago. Someone always to gag to make those types of comebacks possible. Sure will be interesting, hopefully for the Reds.

  351. MadTurk says:

Reminds me of someone who wore the number 21. May not be a fast though.

  352. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  353. Arriba Wilver says:

    :-D

  354. MadTurk says:

Burn the fields they play on. That should earn me some points

  355. Tom P. says:

If the Bats are hot enough to make the playoffs, I would not want to play them in the wild card game.

  356. florida steeler says:

Tomlin’s response when asked about Sean Lee–“we don’t draft based on home town but draft on best available player.”

  357. Arriba Wilver says:

My daughter was dating Bethel’s best player at the time, so it was kind of interesting seeing them. He wasn’t on Sean’s level, but ended up having a nice run at Waynesburg.

  358. Arriba Wilver says:

    And he was wrong.

  359. theplanisworking says:

    Your % is sinking fast………

  360. florida steeler says:

No time to experiment with Grilli. Wilson pitched a satisfactory 7th inning and should have remained in the game.

  361. Arriba Wilver says:

    C’mon, Tony.

  362. Arriba Wilver says:

That was a nice play by Byrd.

  363. The Gunner says:

    Grilli is clearly not sharp.

  364. DJ says:

Florida Steeler: I believe they said or were thinking the same thing about Dan Marino as well.

  365. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m gonna say that Marlon Byrd probably saved a run the way he just played those 2 balls. Stuff that doesn’t show up in the box score.

  366. theplanisworking says:

    Watson comes up huge!

Think maybe Sean Lee could help the Pirates.

  367. Arriba Wilver says:

    Tony Watson—unsung hero.

  368. Milo Hamilton says:

    +2.

  369. Arriba Wilver says:

    Absolutely.

  370. JRay3 says:

He plays a very solid RF and went all out to get to that ball in corner and not let it bounce around out there.

  371. florida steeler says:

If he could hit with RISP.

  372. Milo Hamilton says:

Now let’s get #22 up there with some guys on base. Pad that RBI total for the voters.

  373. Arriba Wilver says:

Not a play Tabby or Jones makes IMHO.

  374. Arriba Wilver says:

Actually, the lore is that Noll wanted to draft Marino.

  375. Lad 9 says:

I think I know who you mean. Lives down the street. Small world.

  376. Karen22 says:

My hubby agreed with you. I thought it was OK since we were up by three. But it’s obvious he’s not yet ready for prime time, and his fastball isn’t there.

  377. theplanisworking says:

“Nice” defense on that bunt by the rangers…………. hee hee hee hee.

    Jordy with 4 hits tonight.
We will next see him next week………….

  378. The Gunner says:

I agree. And Byrd makes less money than both Jones & Tabata.

  379. Milo Hamilton says:

    Oops.

  380. Arriba Wilver says:

What the hey was that play by Texass. No one covering first?

  381. theplanisworking says:

It was the Texass shuffle. ;)

  382. pattonbb says:

    shiny happy people..

  383. theplanisworking says:

    5-1 good guys.
    Cutch padding those RBI’s. :)

  384. Lad 9 says:

Typical Tomlin response. What he was really saying was no way you can know more than me. Well, we did.

  385. JRay3 says:

Just a great piece of hitting by Cutch who takes outside pitch and pokes it to right for his third hit and third RBI of night. Big add on run.

  386. DJ says:

I was getting annoyed at the shifts on McCutchen and I see he did the wise thing.

I wish he would think right-center every time up. His average would be 15-20 points higher, particularly hits given away early in the season when he was in an extreme “pull-happy” mode.

  387. Lad 9 says:

Great piece of hitting by Cutch. Unstoppable when he uses the whole field.

  388. Lad 9 says:

I think we three hitting coaches have a consensus.

  389. DJ says:

    Agreed, Lad.

Now if we could only get paid for the sage advice.

  390. theplanisworking says:

    WHOA!!

That guy in the blue shirt was NOT a good representative of Buc nation!

  391. DJ says:

Yes, I know, but it wouldn’t have aided the “disgruntled fan” effect of the post.

  392. Arriba Wilver says:

So he would be hitting .339-.344 instead of .324? I don’t mess with him.

  393. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  394. Arriba Wilver says:

His dad played at Pitt. Great kid.

  395. Arriba Wilver says:

But we’re Pittsburgh fans. We never forget. ;-)

  396. theplanisworking says:

    Raise the Jolly Hippo!

Bucs played more relaxed this evening, and now are getting back on track.

In honor of Biz…………. Go Like 60! And, win another WS.

  397. DJ says:

Someone commented about this earlier but Tony Sanchez, in this game at least, has looked much more comfortable behind the plate. The Russ Martinizing is clearly having the desired effect on him.

  398. theplanisworking says:

    I know thats early.
    But I am confident. ;)

  399. Ghost says:

Just pulled it. How’s this for timing?? Let the party begin!!

  400. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  401. Ghost says:

    The Bucs chilled out?

  402. theplanisworking says:

    TOLD YA !!!! :D

  403. JRay3 says:

Behind six solid innings from Francisco Liriano who earns win #16, a three RBI night from Andrew McCutchen who continues his MVP case, and a second consecutive save from Mark Melancon, the Bucs trip up the Rangers once again taking the middle game of the set 5-4 and there was noooooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Pirates improve to 83-61, 4-4 on this nine game road trip and 8-3 against teams from the AL West. The Bucs remain just 1 game back of the Cards in the Central and 8 games up for a playoff spot.

The Pirates will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon when AJ Burnett takes the hill for the Pirates.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  404. DJ says:

Sweet win! Beltre is a very tough out.

  405. pattonbb says:

    Don’t ever do that again…please.

  406. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  407. lupesanchez says:

Too close for comfort. Neverett and Walk are making my knuckles bleed with all the knocking on wood.

  408. War Horse says:

    AVAST YE LUBBERS!
The Jolly Roger flies in Europe tonight!

  409. Milo Hamilton says:

    Oh my.

  410. theplanisworking says:

Sorry, I had a blonde Hippo moment.

    Wont happen again.

  411. Karen22 says:

Whew! That was a tad uncomfortable in the 9th!

    But #83 under our belts!

    Sweeeeeeeeeep tomorrow!!

  412. Ghost says:

Glad to get these recaps back.

  413. Lad 9 says:

Raise it! Go for the sweep tomorrow undoubtedly without Melancon. Go like 60! Big win.

  414. KenKopp says:

Wow! 20 years since a pennant race. Forgot how much fun it is. Ain’t like a close game in May. Wow!

  415. Patrick(ri) says:

The highlight of the game may have been Cutch’s smart swing driving the grounder into right field. One of his best at bats! Just enough.

  416. Ghost says:

We know what that means. You and Jessica just disappeared into the bushes again…

  417. Lad 9 says:

    +22. Good call Patrick.

  418. Ghost says:

Dick Enberg is proud of you.

  419. KenKopp says:

“We had ‘em by a gnats eyelash” Rest in peace Bob Prince. Best announcer ever.

  420. theplanisworking says:

  423. Patrick(ri) says:

I was just channeling your earlier comment to DJ. I really need to read before I post. +44 to you guys.

  424. Lad 9 says:

We conquer England tonight! Thanks WH

  425. camchuck says:

    God Bless Bob Prince….

  426. Lad 9 says:

If that is the case, the premature celebration is forgivable then. :)

  427. DJ says:

Hey, when it’s the truth there is no pride in authorship.

  428. theplanisworking says:

    + many dormers !!!! :D

  429. Lad 9 says:

When four of us agree, I just feel like I knew what what I was doing for a brief moment

  430. KenKopp says:

Our guys now are really good. “Raise the Jolly Roger” Great. Any of yinz old enough to remember Bob Prince, could you imagine what he would be doing right now. He was a hoamer and never looked back.

  431. Enjoyed every broadcast when he was there.

  432. Lad 9 says:

I am definitely a dormer guy too. :)

BTW, I hope Tim Allen doesn’t sue the blog for copyright infringement on the Home Improvement concept.

  433. Steelag70 says:

I was at the game!! Bucco fans in full force!!

  434. Baywatch says:

No doubt the most UNNERVING win of the year!

  435. Lad 9 says:

900 posts today on both threads!

Not a record, but that is pretty darn awesome. Thanks for the forum DK and the Trib.

  436. Lad 9 says:

Way to bring it home Steelag!

  437. Baywatch says:

Wow! Was just wondering if it was as unnerving a win in person as it was watching on the boob tube! Tonight, I reached my limit of Steve Busby and Tom Grieve, the Rangers announcers!

  438. theplanisworking says:

    Who cares about him?

As long as we dont turn this into a play, we are good !

  439. DJ says:

Yes, that would be the math.

The point was not to suggest “messing” with him. It is merely an observation that, for periods during a season, he falls in love with his “quick hands / quick bat” approach, rolling over for groundouts to the left side or, worse yet, strikeouts, PARTICULARLY on pitches on the outer half of the plate.

I know you pay careful attention so you have seen that is where most pitchers have been pitching him because “the book” right now is that is where he is least likely to do damage. If he takes those outer half pitches to the right side consistently, then he’s a consistent .340 hitter every year (barring injury). You could book it.

  440. DJ says:

Careful, Lad. I think that same mentality got us into Iraq.

  441. twentytwo22 says:

Finish the series. Finish the road trip. No going through the motions getaway day bs.

  442. Lad 9 says:

Good point. Will stay away from the WMD blogs….

  443. Steelag70 says:

VERY unnerving! I sweating it out when Beltre came up, but he was thinking HR so those offspeed pitches were huge!

  444. DJ says:

. . . I could also throw in that, with this same approach, he would have an additional 7-10 homers and 20 RBI by now, but I don’t want to provoke you.

  445. Steelag70 says:

Sign I saw from a Bucco fan waking out of the Ballpar: “Sid Bream has just left the building!”….I had to explain it to my Rangers fan friend…haha.

  446. Steelag70 says:

Frankie didn’t have his best stuff, but he got some big outs…

  447. Steelag70 says:

I really thought Cutch had enough in his first at-bat…sooooo close to a HR…

  448. DJ says:

You mean skeet shooting if off the list?
