  1. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Pick ‘Em Line
Total HITS by the Pirates in today’s game
    4 – 7 (EVEN ODDS)
    8 – 11 (EVEN ODDS)
    12 or More (DOUBLE ODDS)

100 on 12 or more, got to go for the odds.

  3. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Pirates Batters career numbers vs. Matt Garza

  4. Karen22 says:

Someone had better tell us that Cutch is sick!

    NO days off now!!

  5. Milo Hamilton says:

If he’s not in the hospital I want answers.

  6. Karen22 says:

    100 on 8-11.

  7. toochca says:

For all the talk about “eyes on the division prize” sitting your best players doesn’t make sense!!

  8. Bob Hasis says:

Yes and I need answers why Barmes is starting instead of the 4-hit guy?

I did predict this on the morning thread, however, that Clint Hurdle has no clue!

  9. Milo Hamilton says:

They have lost the final game of the last 8 series. With that in mind he sits the 4 hit guy & the MVP. Still waiting for injury news.

  10. Arriba Wilver says:

    Pirates 83

    Hurdle 61

  11. Arriba Wilver says:

  12. Milo Hamilton says:

    The Farns is closing today.

  13. Playoffs by 2012 says:

“Over 162 games even tough guys get sprains, sore arms, muscle pulls…”
    – Lou Brown

  14. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Alex Presley.

    That is all.

  15. Arriba Wilver says:

  16. Jandy says:

    WTF is farns???

  17. toochca says:

Barmes may be an AJ thing. I get the feeling AJ is not fond of Mercer’s defense. These are just observations of mine from watching the game however.

  18. toochca says:

    Kyle Farnsworth

  19. Milo Hamilton says:

Kyle Farnsworth. H’s a vet, not his 1st rodeo.

  20. pattonbb says:

They both better be having limbs amputated to not be in this lineup.

Seriously, there has to be something going on.

  21. Jandy says:

    ahhh…sorry my bad…missed that boat…thanks guys

  22. Jandy says:

    AW? WTH is ICIT?

  23. SteelAg70 says:

    Kyle Farnsworth…

  24. toochca says:

In Christ’s Image Training – LOL

  25. Jandy says:

Yeah, and I’m Mother Theresa! :P

  26. toochca says:

    If the avatar fits…!!

  27. SteelAg70 says:

My guess with Cutch is that due being in the midst of playing 20 straight games, CH wants to make sure Cutch gets a day off to recharge his batteries…as for Barmes, I’m sure there are probably some defensive tendencies and such being used here…especially since AJ is pitching.

  28. SteelAg70 says:

I was thinking the same thing toocha…

  29. Jandy says:

    toochca, lol!
I use this Avatar, because when someone comes up with a fairy tale story, then I say…
    “Yeah, and I’m Mother Theresa”

  30. Scott says:

No problem with the lineup. You have to sit Cutch at some point to keep him fresh for the stretch drive. Winning 2 out of 3 was the goal in this series, so winning today would be gravy. This will probably be his last day off of the season. He’ll pinch hit if needed.

Often, it’s these weird B-team lineups that end up scoring a lot of runs, for some odd reason. We’ll see!

  31. Kevin says:

100 on 12 or more.. although not sure why since Cutch isn’t playing and he usually has half the pirates hits. ;)

  32. Jim S. says:

An extra hitter (DH) in the lineup, and no Cutch. Head scratcher.

  33. Jim S. says:

    Nice, Arriba.

  34. toochca says:

I played right into that one!! ;)

  35. cmat0829 says:

More Hurdle lineup bashing. Yawn. If this blog were around for some of Leyland’s lineups, I think the servers would have blown up. Players like Wehner, Cangelosi, et al were liberally played in day games, even down the stretch…. but Leyland is on Manager Mt Rushmore and Hurdle is a loser that should be run outta town, I guess.

I’m not there, but I have to believe there is nothing Hurdle wants to do more than to write Cutch’s name in the lineup. If he’s not playing, then it is because of some fatigue or soreness or based on a conversation the player and manager had, I have to think.

As to Barmes playing, Burnett’s ground ball rate is highest in major leagues, and even though some on here will never be convinced that Barmes’ D and range are better than Mercer, my eyes tell me they are. Mercer mashes LHPs but Garza is a RHP last time I checked.

Again, if I were writing the lineup card, Mercer would be at SS and Cutch would be in CF.. but I don’t think we need three scrolls worth of “Hurdle is an idiot”.

  36. cmat0829 says:

early favorite for 2014 AL MVP, lil Elvis. If they move the fences in to 270 feet in right field, that is.

  37. Jim S. says:

    Please, Milo! No!!

  38. Jandy says:

Playoffs posted a link for how the our guys have fared batting against Garza. Barmes is 3 for 11, and two of those 3 are Homers. Hmmmm…
Tabata is 5 for 10, with one of those being a triple…good lead off choice.

Pie is 2 for 9….and Walker is an abysmal 0 for 9. Ouch.

  39. NMR says:

Mercer stinks against righties, and Garza is a good one.

    Clint’s D > Jordy

  40. Better than Morris at this point.

  41. Kevin says:

Debils Advocate here: Is that really a shock? he’s given a new shot and opportunity and more importantly playing time against the worst team in baseball (‘stros). Not really surprising that he’s finding success. I hope he’s 2014 MVP.

  42. Jim S. says:

Fine, but no complaining from AJ about lack of run support.

    Barmes is groundball support.

    Jordy is run support.

  43. Jandy says:

    LOL it’s all good…my bad.

  44. Jandy says:

  45. cmat0829 says:

It is odd that Cutch isn’t the DH, so I’d have to think it is something more than a ‘scheduled day off’ but I have no clue….did someone ask CH? Has 24/7 made the long trip to the ballpark yet? I had to get the Farnsworth news from the ‘other paper’s twitter feed’.

  46. NMR says:

To be fair, cmat, there isn’t much “bashing” going on outside of the Alex Presley fanclub.

Reasonable people can reasonably discuss reasonable differences.

This place would be pretty damn boring if we just agreed with everything that happens.

  47. Bob Hasis says:

I didn’t realize we bloggers had access to a seat in the dugout – or – you have unbelievable ESP – or – one illusionary imagination

  48. Jandy says:

Did Yinz check out the numbers in Playoffs link up there? I posted a few below…Barmes with 2 homers in 9 AB’s against Garza.

  49. cmat0829 says:

very concise and right on the money.

  50. NMR says:

Jordy Mercer OPS against RHP: .612

  51. Jandy says:

    hey, it’s Revvie! :D

  52. Jandy says:

Now, Mr. Hasis, toochca is being nice :)

  53. NMR says:

    In Clint I Trust

  54. cmat0829 says:

no more illusionary than yours, Bob, or any of us that offer opinions and not facts.

  55. Jandy says:

Thanks NMR….now, why didn’t I see what is right in front of my face?
    :smacks head:

  56. NMR says:

Both new occurances for me. :)

  57. Bob Hasis says:

No your comment will suffice, along with mine

  58. Arriba Wilver says:

In Clint I Trust. And I don’t mean Clint Barmes.

    My man Clint Hurdle.

Does that make him my ” boy?”

  59. cmat0829 says:

you are right… a few loud ‘off-tone’ voices do tend to drown out the predominant ‘voice of reason’ this blog is. agree that to disagree is the point of an interesting blog… debating sports is a time-honored tradition that has moved from the barber shop and corner tavern to the ‘internet cafe’.

  60. Jandy says:

and Gaby is 4 for 11….Garza is a rightie tho.

  61. NMR says:

The beauty of baseball, Jandy, is that when you play enough times, good almost always prevails over bad.

Matt Garza is good at pitching. Clint Barmes is bad at hitting.

Expecting good results over a couple at bats by a bad hitter against a good pitcher to continue will leave one wrong many more times than not.

  62. Jandy says:

café? Can I have a glass of wine, please?

  63. Arriba Wilver says:

I forget who first penned that a couple of years ago, but it wasn’t me.

    It also wasn’t Foo.

  64. Jandy says:

Yup, and Jordy isn’t on the list.

  65. Jandy says:

Ugh? what was that for? lol

  66. JohninOshkosh says:

i wasn’t a big Hurdle guy when he was hired. Take away that Rocktober team in Colorado and I wasn’t sure what it was the warranted giving him a big league managing job.

But I trust Dejan’s reporting, categorically. He said Clint was the reason for the season including his affect on the guys above him.

So as far as his lineups are concerned:

    In Clint I trust.

  67. Jandy says:

    Pfffft! :P

  68. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Alex Presley is a career .600 hitter vs. current Texas Rangers pitchers.

  69. NMR says:

See, what you have yet to learn is that Bob’s opinions ARE facts.

    Ya big ole dumb dumb.

  70. Jim S. says:

I haven’t read many “Hurdle is an idiot” posts, cmat. I think people are really following this team closely, and they realize every game is vitally important. When they hear or read something that doesn’t seem logical, they question it. I don’t think that means everyone wants Hurdle fired. If everyone agreed with everyone thing Hurdle did, it would make for a pretty boring blog.

  71. JohninOshkosh says:

effect, I guess. Never got that rule.

  72. NMR says:

Hey, now that you mention it, have Foo and Hasis ever posted at the same time?

    Just sayin… :)

  73. Jim S. says:

Still, though, if Barmes has homered off anyone 2x, let along 2x vs. Garza, and AJ likes his defense … I can see why CH picked today to put him in there. I might have given Jordy the DH slot today. But, that can be defended by a lefty Jones vs. RHP, Garza.

  74. Jandy says:

I’m wrong a lot here, NMAR, but I believe Hurdle “goes by the book” a lot.
I have no problem with either Barmes nor Mercer. I’m thinking in a couple seasons, Mercer will look pretty good sitting at SS. He’s improving a lot this season.
    But yeah…Barmes isn’t a hitting machine, that’s for sure.
And NMR, thanks for your wisdom and answering my questions, it’s much appreciated. Most of you guys have helped me a lot…thanks :*

  75. John Lease says:

No, not right on the money. Mercer is better than Barmes vs. lefties, and vs. righties. Is he better vs. lefties this year? Yes, but he is STILL a better offensive option vs. righties.

  76. Jandy says:

Jim sees what I’m thinking…Clint is going by the book with Barmes, PLUS the fact that AJ prefers him…well, that’s why Barmes gets the nod.

  77. War Horse says:

Keep in mind that Cutch has played in 141 of the 144 games so far. How tired would you be at this point in the season? He’ll be on the bench, ready to PH. So will be Mercer. Hurdle has taken a team from Wild Card to the World Series as manager, and as batting coach, too. He is not as ignorant as some may believe. He knows from his experience in 2011 and last year that players cannot produce their best efforts when they’re bone tired. Let’s see how it works out this afternoon.

  78. Bob Hasis says:

In 1949 or 1950, a guy named Walt Dropo 1B for the Bosox had 12 hits in a row stretching over three games.

Obviously Clint Hurdle was not the manager

  79. cmat0829 says:

Rocktober is the only thing that affords the awful Rockies ownership and front office from closer scrutiny…hard to hang mediocrity in Colorado on Hurdle and not look at the rosters/talent that he had to work with, especially on the pitching side.

To be fair, what exactly makes Jim Leyland a superior manager (which I agree that he is) when all he has done is win with superior over the top talent but fail when he hasn’t had the horses (Pitt after ’92, meltdown in that very same Colorado you refer to in judging Clint)… it can be argued he is underachieving in DET with all of that unbelievable talent assembled there.

To me, management is about leading…putting players in position to be the best they can be…sure you make a decision here and there but the players either perform and the results are good or they fall short and the results are not what you want. I think we see ample evidence that Hurdle is a very very effective leader in that clubhouse and has put this team in position to perform.

  80. Jandy says:

But, Barmes has 2 homers against Garza…that has to count for something :)

  81. Jim S. says:

I’m not in the Alex Presley fan club, but I heard they had to change the logo on the club stationery from Pirates to Twins. Sucks for them.

  82. Jandy says:

  83. Jandy says:

I like Hurdle. And I’m NOT his mother :P

  84. cmat0829 says:

  85. Jandy says:

Now, NMR, quit calling cmat names…
    cmat? Are you big????

  86. Arriba Wilver says:

Foo hates Hurdle, but I know Foo. They are definitely not the same person. Otherwise, when I met Foo in person he would have punched me in the face, and he didn’t.

  87. JohninOshkosh says:

  88. Jim S. says:

He’s been knocked off the horse at a lot of his recent rodeos, I think. I’d go with Jeanmar before him.

  89. John Lease says:

Too bad though those homers were years ago. Back when Barmes could actually hit some.

He’s got his one single against him this year though, 1-2 so the theory is Barmes is hot? :)

  90. TCB says:

    75 on 8-11, thanks.

  91. Jandy says:

But Alex Presley doesn’t play for the Bucs :)

  92. Bob Hasis says:

Yes sir Rev, 94 people trusted in James Jones and went on a mission to Nicaragua (I think). They drank his Kool-Aid (from whence that phrase was created) and all were found poisoned to death.

There was that fabled Pied Piper of Hamlin too.

  93. JohninOshkosh says:

Hey Chicago what do you say? The Cubs are going to win today!

Mike Leake pitching for the Reds. He’ll have plenty of time to get to Macy’s before it closes. (Sorry, I can’t help myself, like Milo with Chapman and the hookers). :)

  94. John Lease says:

If you sit McCutchen, fine. Just don’t put PIE in there, unless it is Traynor. You have all those other guys, put guys in the outfield who can hit. Pie is on quite a long 0-fer.

  95. Jandy says:

Well, AJ prefers Barmes, so AJ gets what AJ wants…
    theory be damned :)

  96. cmat0829 says:

I agree Bob, I keep hoping we see the breaking news that Neal has fired Hurdle and replaced him with Jeff Bannister or Nick Leyva for the rest of the year. That will cure what is holding this team back. Or better yet Dean Treanor takes the reigns. Bet we see a very very noticeable difference in how this team is managed. Maybe today is the day? Or after the game in time for the series opener tomorrow vs. the Cubbies? WE CAN HOPE…#FIRETHEBUMHURDLEASAP

  97. Jandy says:

  98. Jason81 says:

    100 on 8-11, please!

  99. Milo Hamilton says:

Sorry, but at this point in the season, my best player has to be on a stretcher with a priest preparing last rites for me not to write his name on the lineup card.

  100. cmat0829 says:

So, let’s play along… you want Tabby or Byrd in CF so you can squeeze Lambo’s hot bat in the lineup?

  101. JohninOshkosh says:

Bob, that might be the worst analogy ever placed on this blog.

And I’m a fan of yours, too.

  102. toochca says:

They joys of managing… Where everybody thinks they can do a better job than the one who’s doing it and most have not even done it before.

  103. cmat0829 says:

I’d give the shirt off my back to any Cubbie who gets a hit today off of the overconfident Mike Leake…. STEAL A WIN, CUBBIES!

  104. Lad 9 says:

Will take 4-7 hits for 100 please. (No Cutch) Thank you, Go Buccos!

  105. Jandy says:

Spunky, you got your flight booked yet?

  106. cmat0829 says:

it’s the fantasy football effect. we see it with lineup experts at game time and especially with expert GMs at deadline time…it’s easy, we can all play!! unlike in real life, we can just turn off the PC and forget our mistakes….

  107. Lad 9 says:

Same here. Fella named Ripken managed to play a few games in a row at a more demanding position. At very least, Cutch needs to be the DH.

  108. toochca says:

They weren’t hookers, they were friends of Tejas!!

  109. Arriba Wilver says:

  110. Jandy says:

    Rad Lad in DaHouse :)

  111. cmat0829 says:

Don’t bring FACTS to this-here bloviated opinion picnic! They are not allowed. We only go by gut feel, age-old biases, and what we see on the TV with the rabbit ears.

  112. Jandy says:

Thanks Oshkosh, I didn’t know quite how to go about saying that….you said it very succinctly!

  113. Jandy says:

    Don’t forget bubblegum induced inclinations!

  114. cmat0829 says:

SS have to play defense above all else, and in my opinion, Barmes is superior to Jordy in the field…and that combination means he starts especially with a groundball pitcher on the hill.

  115. Arriba Wilver says:

  116. cmat0829 says:

wake me when he proves it for longer than a 2-week stretch.. we’ve seen the promise before… when he first came up to the Bucs and some periods since then. But the valleys are a-coming, my friends, and I’ll remind y’all when they are here.

  117. pattonbb says:

I was about to write something similar. Again, your version is better. But my post was going to reference a defibrillator.

This offense has been anemic. I’m not a Barmes basher, but Mercer was locked in last night. Let the hot bat play. Maybe, just maybe, he’s still locked in. Cutch has hit safely in every game so far this month. Think he needs a rest? OK, DH him.

The bats, at this point in the season need to play.

  118. toochca says:

  119. Dom says:

    100 on 8-11!!!

  120. radio wave says:

I will go 75 on the 8-11 hits.

  121. radio wave says:

I know pitchers get their own personal catcher, but now a personal shortstop too?

  122. NMR says:

    Haha, tall.

  123. 21sthebest says:

“Does that make him my ” boy?””

    You bet.

  124. NMR says:

Three parts of the game: offense, defense, and baserunning.

  125. NMR says:

You’re a pleasure to converse with here, Jandy. No thanks needed!

  126. 21sthebest says:

Leyland is always the first to say about the players assembled for you and not the manager.

  127. OZ says:

    100 on 4 to 7

  128. NMR says:

Clint Hurdle, Jim Jones, and Bob Hasis’s neighborhood lawn boy walk into a bar…

  129. Bill Born says:

    Please 100 units 0n 4 – 7 Line.

  130. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    If I were pitching,
    I’d request a personal Center-Fielder.

    Alex Presley.

  131. NMR says:

    ahem, ladies of the night.

  132. toochca says:

Observations based on “watching” the game on TV. These “observations are based on AJ’s body language, facial expressions and demeaner towards Jordy when Jody doesn’t make a play or when Jordy is “out of position” in his mind.

  133. JAL says:

Pirates playing 20 games in 20 days, Cutch off is just to keep from getting fatigued. Of course i might played him today and sit him in first game of Cub series tomorrow.

  134. NMR says:

Ah, that pesky little thing called “defense” again, eh?

  135. radio wave says:

Reds take 2-0 lead on Cubs.

  136. JohninOshkosh says:

Good stuff today, Playoffs. I love themed blogging!

  137. theplanisworking says:

100 Hot Hippos on 4-7, please.

    Thank You !!

  138. Jandy says:

    Makes more sense…

  139. bizrow says:

    100 on 12 or more

    Thanks Playoffs

You never know with this club ;-)

  140. Milo Hamilton says:

You know, I could see it if they still had Alex Presley.

  141. Jandy says:

    Well, poop!

  142. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I have accessed my inner Dejan today.

  143. Jandy says:

    Only AJ ;)

  144. Jandy says:

what? You had Starbucks for breakfast AND lunch???!!?

  145. Karen22 says:

    Me, too! I like red!

  146. gregenstein says:

It could be argued that giving your best player an off day in the sweltering heat would keep him much fresher for the games ahead, and thus give the team a better chance of winning overall.

  147. theplanisworking says:

    Clint – 83

    Pirates – 61

  149. 21sthebest says:

I wouldn’t sit Cutch today but I wouldn’t DH him either believe it or not. He never has DH’d. Completely different feel when you’re not playing the field.

  150. Jandy says:

Playoffs, you are EVIL! This line today is making me nuts.

  151. Jandy says:

    woop woop!!

  152. bizrow says:

I think my son, Demon Dachshund is at the game today.

He’ll bring home the win ;-)

  153. Jandy says:

    Hipposter is back :)

  154. 21sthebest says:

On second thought, if Cutch had one leg I’d rather see him DH than Jones.

  155. toochca says:

    They prefer the term “entertainers”

  156. Jandy says:

    21’s favorite ;)

  157. Konstantin says:

    Wins are fungible.

Barring injury or illness, sitting Cutch today is indefensible.

  158. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    That’s the spirit!

  159. Karen22 says:

I’m with you, Milo. And Cutch sure didn’t look tired FLYING around the bases legging that triple the other night.

  160. 21sthebest says:

Pirates 14-5 vs. the American League this year.

    That is not a typo.

  161. Karen22 says:

    LOL! Funny, Playoffs!

  162. Jandy says:

  163. Jandy says:

Good stuff, Biz…tell him to bring it on home :)

  164. 21sthebest says:

Sitting him in front of the home fans in their first game ever at PNC having clinched a winning season? I don’t think so.

  165. Jandy says:

    Milo is ALL IN!!!!!

  166. Jandy says:

EH…there’s that…but then there’s the fact that the Rangers are a tougher opponent.

  167. JAL says:

Also the Texas heat to consider

  168. Jandy says:

Yup and Cole sweated thru that pretty well…

  169. SteelAg70 says:

Biz…awesome….I couldn’t be there today, so glad to see the blog is represented yet again in Arlington!

  170. Dadtackular says:

    100 wild cards on 8-11

  171. Milo Hamilton says:

    Seriously ?

  172. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Flip a coin :)

  173. theplanisworking says:

Cmat, I know you are being sarcastic with this.

But you represent a part of the blog that allows no criticism of Hurdle, ever. I criticize him when he deserves it, and praise him when he deserves it………… but you do not allow him to be criticized ever, even when he pulls bonehead decisions.

Yes, there are some people who are over the top in criticizing him, but you are over the top in defending him. Dont understand why, but it is just as annoying as those who criticize him for every move.

And, ……………….I support playing Barmes today, as it is a “getaway” day. You said earlier we dont need 3 scrolls of Hurdle is an idiot. We also dont need 3 scrolls of Hurdle is God, either.

  174. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    I love that moniker.
    Demon Dachshund.

  175. Nate83 says:

Unless NMR has access to cmat he doesn’t know if he is big, old, dumb or dumb so all of this is just imaginary.

  176. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    I nominate Alex Presley.

  177. Jandy says:

100 Tejass Heat units on the 4 – 7 lines please. Thanks, Playoffs :)

  178. theplanisworking says:

ladies may be stretching it………. ;)

  179. TK says:

    100 on “8-11″

  180. Jandy says:

I guess winning after 20 years of losing will do that to ya ;)

  181. theplanisworking says:

    Whats this all about??

  182. theplanisworking says:

  183. I must be really stupid because I don’t get the analogy at all.

John was talking about using affect and effect, not drinking poison.

    But, what do I know?

  184. Jandy says:

    Reds take lead on CUbbies

  185. Jandy says:

    hey hey !

  186. Jandy says:

More than you let on ….

  187. Nate83 says:

Insert bob comment right here ________ about how Barme’s defense is not better then Mercer’s.

  188. Dadtackular says:

+1 Way out of line Bob

  189. I don’t normally have much bad to say about Clint, ever since Chad Qualls has been a part of somebody else’s roster.

But when he was here, I could have said a few things. And I like the guy. (Clint) No offense to Chad, but he stinks.

  190. Baywatch says:

I wanna see Lambo in there for a game now and then!

  191. gregenstein says:

I like it when people pull out the old “wake me when…” as if they’re actually sleeping.

  192. Nate83 says:

Except he just went 3 for 5 and we get to use a DH today. He can get a day off and still walk up there and swing his hot bat 4 times. Rest for position baseball players is overrated in my opinion.

  193. I don’t do last rights, J-girl. I’m Pentecostal. I’ll lay hands on him and get him healed by the Power of God and he’ll by gum be in the lineup!

  194. Lad 9 says:

    That’s what I’m talking about…..

  195. Jandy says:

    Better yet!!!!!

  196. Lad 9 says:

    Jandy! Good afternoon blogmother.

Very quick check in today. On the road and work is calling.

  197. theplanisworking says:

    LOL !!

    Good Afternoon Reverend.
I will take a few of your prayers with me starting tomorrow for my Uncles family. They will need it.

  198. NMR says:

Astros, Angels, Mariners, A’s, Tigers, Rangers.

Three good teams, three really bad teams.

  199. Jandy says:

well be safe, Laddie…catch you next time…and hopefully with another win for our boys :)

  200. theplanisworking says:

How is work going? Still buried?

  201. Milo Hamilton says:

AJ Pierzynski’s catching a day game after a night game ? In that heat ? Somebody call OSHA.

  202. 21sthebest says:

He loves red! And I’ve been saving this bottle for two years. Not sure if I’ll ever open it.×300.jpg

  203. gregenstein says:

90 degrees outside in Arlington in ballpark known to be sauna, and a RHP on the hill. I’m OK with Cutch getting *this* day off to keep him fresh the rest of the way. Plus, Felix Pie has a similar OPS to Cutch against Garza in his career.

  204. Jandy says:

ehh…getting a bit more done all the time…got three more contracts back to the boss for his Signature. Putting together a project binder and filing the paperwork while I chat…takes little concentration so I can do it ;)

  205. Jandy says:

He wants the chance to trip someone at home again. Who’s the home plate ump???

  206. theplanisworking says:

    Just use your Nunsense. ;)

  207. Milo Hamilton says:

Do you guys get busier in the fall months ? People wanting to get stuff done before the holidays ?

  208. AJS says:

This is what bugs me. You want to keep him off the field due to the sweltering heat? Fine. Let him go sit in the AC in the room and have him come out to take his cuts. With a DH there is no excuse to not have Cutch in the line up.

  209. Jandy says:

Clemente Cabernet??!! WHERE did you GET that???

  210. Milo Hamilton says:

    Looks like Chad Fairchild.

  211. Jandy says:

Planimal, yes, I always use that ;)

Milo, the residential side does. I’m in the contract (commercial) side…our busiest time is summer, when all the schools MUST be done before they open. It’s a free for all in here then…I can breathe a bit easier now it’s September. :)
Hubby works installing for a residential store in town (Not the same place I work). He’s insanely busy all summer…then November and December.

  212. toochca says:

Chad Fairchild, he was at 1B yesterday. They rotate clockwise.

  213. Jandy says:

Why would one player be out of the heat and not the others? C’mon guys, this is Big Boy pants league.

  214. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    AJ vs. AJ
No way he could pass that up.

  215. JohninOshkosh says:

Bud Selig catches a lot of grief, some of it deservedly so. But they way he stewarded MLB through September 2001, and has remembered it every year since with various directives to the clubs, ought to be applauded.

He learned from Pete Rozelle’s greatest regret.

  216. Jandy says:

    haha…then he’s half blind too I guess…ask the Rangers.

  217. theplanisworking says:

Somehow, my wager appeared way down below………..

100 Hot Hippos on 4-7 hits please.
Hope this stays in the right box………..

  218. JohninOshkosh says:

Alex Presley would’ve played today in the heat.

  219. toochca says:

Blind in one eye only! Can’t see out of the other one though!

  220. theplanisworking says:

    HEAL !!!

  221. You got it. If you want to be more specific, fine, but, if not, plan B takes care of it.

    BTW, do you prefer:

Juan Hippolito or El Hippo Dorko for your Spanish name?

  222. The Justice Avenger says:

Agree…a day off is not a bad thing

  223. toochca says:

I would like to think all commisioners learn from that!

  224. theplanisworking says:

    Oh, slo Hippo today.

Busy getting the “no trespassing” signs up here…… ;)

  225. Milo Hamilton says:

I have a friend who owns a carpet cleaning outfit. He gets killed about the same time you do. He runs specials after New Years for his residential side. Clean up after those messy holiday parties.

  226. bizrow says:

If you have Dachsys, you know it fits ;-)

  227. Jandy says:

keep on keepin on, Hipposter :)

  228. 21sthebest says:

The fella that runs the Clemente Museum has a winery in the basement.

  229. theplanisworking says:

OSHA? Dont you mean PETA?? After all, he is a jacka$$ :)

  230. blazer says:

    100 on the 8-11 please.

  231. AJS says:

He did DH two nights ago though. Maybe he gets the DH again tomorrow night as a reward.

Paralleling to Cutch though…man I don’t know how he is at least not a DH. I hope it is just a maintenance day in the middle of a 20 gamestretch and not something more than that though. My guess is it is just that though.

  232. theplanisworking says:

Uncle passed away. He has been on his deathbed for about 9 months, so it is a blessing he suffers no more.

As for the nickname, Juan Hippolito sounds dignified. But, I know many will want to use the other one, so it doesnt matter. Brandie and Jandy have come up with over 100 nicknames for me.

  233. Nate83 says:

+++ see I agreed with almost everything you have said today.

  234. Stickyweb says:

I could point out that Mercer and Barmes are essentially the same batter against RHP (Mercer just kills LHP) and that Barmes has some success against Garza (all together now, small sample size), but I like Arriba’s answer much better

  235. Jandy says:

It’s a dirty thankless business your friend has, Milo lol.
I get to deal with architect and contractors and sub contractors and all kinds of people. I’ve learned a lot of patience over the years. lol

  236. Jandy says:

and they all fit you at some time or another :)

  237. Naje says:

He was the DH Monday… so yeah, catching day game after night game for a team 2 games behind sounds about right to me.

  238. Nate83 says:

They both play with a chip on their shoulder. If AJ throws one up and in on the other AJ it just might actually be AJ vs. AJ.

  239. Mrevo says:

This lineup sucks, Pirates will probably score 8 runs.

  240. theplanisworking says:

Jandy, you are a nut !!

  241. Stickyweb says:

I like that line Jim. Will probably steal it for later use.

  242. Milo Hamilton says:

    Some food for thought.

    AJ Burnett – Home: 2.32 Road: 4.30

    Francisco Liriano – Home: 1.21 Road: 4.14

    Charlie Morton – Home: 2.88 Road: 3.88

    Juan D. Rodriguez – Home: 2.06 Road: 6.26

    Jeff Locke – Home: 4.52 Road: 2.15

    Gerrit Cole – Home: 4.27 Road: 2.29

  243. Jandy says:

Dang, and I thought my Mother T pic gave me some “presence”

  244. Jandy says:

    Ooohh…interesting stuff, Milo!

  245. Naje says:

That ain’t food… that’s a freaking seven course meal… bizarro stats. Thanks, MH.

  246. Milo Hamilton says:

Wouldn’t be surprised if this one goes about 2 hours 25 minutes.

  247. theplanisworking says:

Might get you some “presents” ;)

  248. theplanisworking says:

    : ducks :

  249. Nate83 says:

Those are huge splits. Morton’s is the only one that comes close to making sense. Gerrit Cole and Jeff Locke must both pitch 2 fo the final six games because they are on the road. That is the only solution.

  250. Jandy says:

    Cool shot!

  251. Milo Hamilton says:

That’s awesome Biz. Make sure he hydrates, I understand it’s hot.

  252. Stickyweb says:

I commented above but didn’t realize this theme would continue, so vs. RHP:
    Mercer .235/.287/.325/.612
    Barmes .226/.269/.317/.586

That’s one hump-back liner (or Texas leaguer or seeing-eye-single) away from being the same batter.

  253. SteelAg70 says:

I think everyone is making waaaay too much about Cutch not playing today…even DH’ing. Even as great as Cutch is, he needs a day off from the mental and physical grind…CH may also have a certain number of games in mind for Cutch that he has played in a row before he gives him a day off.

  254. Jandy says:

    More Beer!

  255. Jandy says:

First inning, both sides 3 up and 3 down.

  256. SteelAg70 says:

AJ was mowing them down…9 pitches (7 strikes) and 2 K’s…

  257. tdb1977 says:

I found a silver lining today in starting work at 3 AM. I get to go home and sleep for a couple of hours, wake up and watch the Bucs game this afternoon.

  258. Jandy says:

tdb where do you work that you can start at 3am?

  259. War Horse says:

It’s 91 degrees in the shade in Arlington. Cutch has played 141 of 144 games this season. Hurdle was asked why he sat Cutch today and he said (words to the effect) that he didn’t want Cutch to have to play in “150 degrees out there today.”

  260. Stickyweb says:

21, how about popping that cork when the Bucs win the World Series in a little over a month? I’m sure Roberto would approve

  261. florida steeler says:

They get a day off tomorrow., don’t they?? He can’t DH??? More stupidity.

  262. Nate83 says:

    Thanks Jandy.

  263. Jandy says:

Awesome, 21. That’s a bottle to keep always tho,

  264. cmat0829 says:

  265. Jandy says:

I’m just checking on the box score link that Dejan posts up there. It’s slower than real time, but it’s better than nothing :)

  266. radio wave says:

All of a sudden, PA’s bat wakes up. At least in Texas, not in St. Louis. And how hot is it there? I understand Bucs are wearing black tops today. In that heat? I went to games there when it was 95 for a night game.

  267. Jandy says:

    Petey with a double !

  268. theplanisworking says:

  269. Arriba Wilver says:

  270. Jandy says:

    line drive to right field

  271. 21sthebest says:

I would’ve played Cutch but I went to a game there once in August and with the entire ballpark being enclosed, you get no air movement. It’s brutal.

  272. tdb1977 says:

I work in IT. When our stores are closed at night – its when we do alot of our maintenance and update any and all software installed on the servers so there is no down time during the business day unless some unexpected happens.

  273. cmat0829 says:

moving on to the actual game and not Cutch-gate 2013…. boy did Rios look slow going after that fly ball to right by Petey?

  274. Nate83 says:

I’m guessing here but not really. If you asked Cutch if he wanted to play today the answer would have been yes and there would have been zero hesitation. This is the irst time meaningfull ball has been played this late in the year in 20 years. The best team needs to be on the field every day from here on out. MVP candidate plays. No questions asked. He has shown zero signs of being tired or worn down.

  275. florida steeler says:

And, maybe Jordy should feel similar about AJ’s 7-10 record, but Toocha, I agree with you and get the feeling AJ’s attitude gets him his way a little too much; even with Hurdle.

  276. Jandy says:

Martin called out on strikes. 2 outs. Petey waiting. GI Jones batting

  277. Jandy says:

    Jones walks.

  278. Naje says:

    heat got to him….

  279. Nate83 says:

The next update will be Barmes with a runs scoring single. Fingers crossed.

  280. War Horse says:

Rio missed catching it by no more than six inches. His glove was up there. Before he hit it, I was thinking to myself, “Isn’t it about time that Pedro put one out?”

  281. Jandy says:

:sigh: he popped out to second baseman

  282. 21sthebest says:

My sister is on her second Dachshund. Awesome dogs.

  283. florida steeler says:

The guy has 36 steals–must be your tv.

  284. Arriba Wilver says:

    +a gazillion.

I want to give him a standing ovation,

  285. Stickyweb says:

This seems like a good place to throw in how fed up I am with AJ’s little fits when the defense doesn’t make a play due to positioning or because they don’t have the super human range he thinks they should have. Save the glares for the umps and the other team, not your teammates.

And I really like AJ and everything he’s done for the team since he got here, just saying.

  286. Arriba Wilver says:

  287. Jandy says:

AJ Pierzynski strikes out for the second out,,missed the first one, Phone call

  288. Jim S. says:

Consider it in the public domain, Sticky!

  289. Jandy says:

    Naje, you forgot your ;)

  290. Stickyweb says:

Or Robbie Grossman. He’s the only one that can steal AL MVP from Presley next year.

  291. Jim S. says:

    Ice what, Arriba?

  292. Jandy says:

Moreland strikes out swinging, retires the side.

  293. Jim S. says:

You are now attached to him for life.

  294. Karen22 says:

Wow – AJ looks serious today!

Hope our anemic lineup can give him a run.

  295. Jim S. says:

It also didn’t make any sense a couple of years ago.

  296. Karen22 says:

Martin sure LOOKS at a lot of strikes.

  297. Jandy says:

That’s good…maybe he likes the heat, eh?

  298. Jim S. says:

I hate when that happens. If only we could have borrowed him for a few days.

  299. Karen22 says:

    Could be!

  300. Jim S. says:

    + zzzz.

  301. Jim S. says:

If only he were applying that logic consistently, as he did earlier.

Morneau comes to mind, as does Gabby.

  302. Jim S. says:

    Mother pot stirrer! :-)

  303. theplanisworking says:

++++++++, oh, you get the picture !! ;)

    Hi Karen.

  304. Jandy says:

    Pie walks

  305. theplanisworking says:

    Must be some strong pie………..

  306. Jandy says:

Tabby strikes out swinging…Pie steals second.

  307. Nate83 says:

Awesome we should be able to get to Cutch this inning and the way he has been playing I’ll take my chances. What’s that you say…’s too hot to play. That just sounds crazy.

  308. Jandy says:

Walker at bat now. One out.

  309. War Horse says:

Hurdle: “Little Pie, little Pie, you better come in…”

Garza: “Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin…”

  310. theplanisworking says:

    Walker likes Pie!!

    1-0 good guys.

  311. Jim S. says:

So far, AJ appears to be telling a lot of Rangers to STFD!

The only Texas Ranger he would never tell that to would be …. Chuck Norris, aka Walker Texas Ranger! Nobody tells him to STFD.

  312. radio wave says:

It wasn’t clear on the radio, Walker was thrown out at first when Pia scored? How??

  313. Stickyweb says:

This just popped up in the MLB Gameday for our game:

That was pitch number 45 for Matt Garza; his effectiveness may start slipping, as he holds opposing hitters to a .207 average in the first 45 pitches but they hit .253 off him after that.

Let’s hope they’re right. (and I think Pie’s AB was responsible for 38 of those poitches)

  314. theplanisworking says:

Morneau heard everybody here picking on him today.
    He responds with a double.

  315. Jandy says:

    Walker singles and Pie scores!!!!!

  316. Jandy says:

    Walker out at second.

  317. Nate83 says:

Chuck Norris once told himself to STFD but there was no chairs because they all ran away in fear of Chuck Norris.

  318. florida steeler says:

    Always looks for a walk.

  319. War Horse says:

Walker slipped rounding the bag and fell. Coulcn’t get back quickly enough.

  320. radio wave says:

On the radio, they quoted Hurdle as saying if this game gets to a save situation, it will be Farnsworth. Yikes.

  321. Jandy says:

Morneau doubles. Now if Walker hadn’t tried to go to second…

  322. Jandy says:

    lol I’m slow..

  323. War Horse says:

First, actually, after slipping and falling (briefly).

  324. radio wave says:

  325. Jandy says:

Byrd pops out to retire the side

  326. Kevin says:

    woot +1 pie.

  327. Jandy says:

only the box score Dejan posts up there for me, War Horse :/

  328. The Justice Avenger says:

    We’ll take one run anytime.

  329. Jandy says:

    dayum right

  330. Jim S. says:

Only following on my phone, but did he go in order to ensure Pie scored?

For all their good points, the Bucs are a terrible situational base running team. And it isn’t all Leyva’s fault.

  331. Jim S. says:

If that’s all it took …

  332. radio wave says:

No help from Cubs. Reds lead 6-0.

  333. Jim S. says:

    ++, Nate.

  334. Jandy says:

so is Farnsworth another Aroldis Chapman?

  335. Jandy says:

wow bottom of third 3 up and 3 down. that was fast

  336. cmat0829 says:

seems to my eyes he either got a bad jump or loafed a bit after the ball, which was his MO for the Sox. nothing to do with how many steals he has. but maybe i’m just seeing something that isn’t there, kind-of like those that love Alex Presley.

  337. Jandy says:

lol yinz are both nuts :P

  338. The Justice Avenger says:

Batman looking pretty good through 3 today…

  339. SteelAg70 says:

Yes….it was unusually cool last night…87 at first pitch with a slight breeze…91 today…

  340. War Horse says:

Jandy, drive, walk or run to your nearest sports bar with live TV of the game and watch this magnificent performance by AJ. He missed with one pitch last inning but it was lined right at Pedro, who caught it.

  341. Nate83 says:

I’m not sure which is better the Chuck Norris legend quotes or the most interesting man in the world quotes.

  342. Jandy says:

let’s hope he keeps it up!

  343. The Justice Avenger says:

Reds must be mighty ticked off they got hammered last night….

  344. Kevin says:

I guess with the heat… kinda unlikely for Burnett to go 8 right?… eventhough he’s only thrown 36 pitches through 3 so far.

  345. War Horse says:

He’s struck out five in three innings. His record lifetime when striking out six or more is 92-55.

  346. 21sthebest says:

Stick, I’ve had that thought but that’s going to be a tough bottle to open.

  347. Jandy says:

    I wish I could, War Horse :(

  348. Jandy says:

Never put anything past AJ, Kevin.

  349. cmat0829 says:

Was just thinking what Greg Brown just said… Petey is ‘starting to see the ball well’… hope this means he is about to go on a tear… would be a nice thing to have for the long homestand… clear the decks!

  350. Patrick(ri) says:

    Love it when bunt fails.

  351. cmat0829 says:

i’ll take cubs winning the series all day long…. was hoping for the sweep against the odds, but i’ll take what the Cubs gave us. now, let’s go Brewers!

  352. Kevin says:

wow Pedro walked… are there stats anywhere for the day game version of Pedro? 1-1 2B and BB so far today.

  353. Jandy says:

Martin singles, Petey to second. 2 on, no outs :)

  354. Milo Hamilton says:

    Pitchers & stinky guys.

  355. SteelAg70 says:

Petey walked twice last night too….I almost fell out of my seat last night…haha.

  356. theplanisworking says:

    Miss Jandy, gotta run.
    Get the team a W.
I will see you tomorrow morning, when I give you the keys to my Pond. ;)

  357. cmat0829 says:

Bases loaded (for Harry Caray fans) or juiced (for cryin’ Ryan)… need to knock Garza off the horse here, fellas!! LETS GO BUCS!!

  358. cmat0829 says:

He who shall not be named is at the plate….

  359. Jandy says:

    Jonesy singles…everyone moves over…bases loaded..

  360. Good time to break this one open.

  361. Naje says:

those, ahem, “rings” keep him cool….

  362. Jandy says:

    LOL Okies Hipposter…please be safe!

  363. Scott says:

Now that’s an argument I can agree with. Letting Cutch DH would be the equivalent of a day off. I wonder if that crossed Hurdle’s mind.

  364. Patrick(ri) says:

Garza got in spot where he cant use his best pitch.

  365. Jandy says:

    C’mon Barmes!!!!

  366. cmat0829 says:

3-1 count… make the pitch be good, nameless one!

  367. cmat0829 says:

BALL FOUR, RBI for Barmes, Bucs lead 2-0, crooked number is a-coming.

  368. NMR says:

Milo, what do you think? :)

  369. Jandy says:

Bahahahaha Barmes walks….a run comes in :)

  370. cmat0829 says:

Minutes to Garza destroying the gatorade cooler, plus/minus 5.

  371. radio wave says:

Back in the day, the great Red Barber would have said “meat and potatos on the table.”
And a bases loaded walk.. Keep it going.

  372. Jandy says:

    And don’t forget, no outs.

  373. pattonbb says:

What is Garza so upset about? Those balls weren’t even close.

  374. radio wave says:

After meat and potatos we need some Pie.

  375. Patrick(ri) says:

If it curves, just say no!

  376. Might be safe to say Garza won’t finish this game. 74 pitches in the top of the 4th and nobody out.

  377. Jim S. says:

Barmes comes through with a key walk, as we all agreed he would do earlier today. I love it when we have consensus.

  378. cmat0829 says:

if garza pitched with as much passion as he catches the ball back from the catcher, he may have something.

  379. Jim S. says:

Time for dessert. How about some Pie?

  380. radio wave says:

    Pie was not good.

  381. florida steeler says:

Why is Pie playing?? Do we not have Lambo any longer??

  382. Jandy says:

dang Pie called out on strikes

  383. cmat0829 says:

wow, Pie HAS to swing at that one. just has to. 1 down. Tabby needs to pick up Pie here.

  384. radio wave says:

    Rangers are beating themselves.

  385. At least he didn’t hit into a double play.

  386. Jandy says:

    C’mon Tabby!!!

  387. pattonbb says:

“Baseball is dull only to dull minds.” – Red Barber

  388. cmat0829 says:

all that babble about fielders not being ready behind an inefficient pitcher,…maybe there’s a little truth in that.

  389. Patrick(ri) says:

Just wait for his fastball, Walker.

  390. radio wave says:

Garza at 85 pitches pitching to Walker.

  391. cmat0829 says:

luckily the #BENCHLAMBO trended more than the #FREELAMBO did.

  392. What did Tabloid do?

All I can get is Gameday mini and it’s screwed up.

  393. Jandy says:

Reaches on an error…martin scores. YES

  394. Jim S. says:

You gotta love self-destructive tendencies …. from your opponent.

  395. Jim S. says:

    Error by SS.

  396. Jandy says:

    oops 2 outs

  397. Jim S. says:

Or, maybe my phone was wrong. Did they get an out on Tabby’s ball?

  398. Jandy says:

    ouch. well it’s still 3-0

  399. Patrick(ri) says:

What is Walker now? 0 for 13 against Garza? His “hidden vigorish” is really hidden.

  400. cmat0829 says:

We got 3 …but 2 poor at bats that inning…Pie can’t take a 94 MPH fastball on 3-2 count down the middle and Neil can’t swing at a curveball in the dirt that wasn’t close to a strike.

Kinda hope Garza stays in for the 5th…. he has a lot of talent but seems his head gets in the way a lot of the time.

  401. The Justice Avenger says:

Nice to get Batman more than 1 run in a game…keep it going Buccos!

  402. Jandy says:

he should be sitting and Cutch playing lol

  403. Jim S. says:

Ugh! I love you, Bucs. You know that I do. But, for the love all that is holy, why can you never put a team away early?

  404. War Horse says:

Last half inning, Garza looked like he was suffering from heat stroke. Couldn’t find the plate. I suspect it was the Pirates’ game plan to get him to throw a lot in that heat.

  405. Baywatch says:

That wasn’t funny, Arreebz! :-) Maybe a big pinch hit from the Lambodozzy today!

  406. florida steeler says:

He actually got one hit today–amazing!!!!

  407. Patrick(ri) says:

  408. Baywatch says:

I know! I’m just watching that, and come away sounding like a children’s book: “The Inning That Could Have Been So Much More!” (Sung to the tune of the “Little Engine That Could?”) WHAT THE HECK WAS PIE THINKING? (I know: “Bay, PIES don’t think!”)

  409. Patrick(ri) says:

And even Pedro gets it, not swinging at that hook in the dirt.

  410. Kevin says:

so wait.. bases still loaded with no outs after walking a run home to go up 2 to 0 and we only get one more run? *sigh* I guess this is just typical pirate baseball.

  411. florida steeler says:

I would rather have Gaby playing than that piece of Pie–no way does he belong on a major league roster.

  412. cmat0829 says:

RIOS — _” HE GONE” .. he should recognize that from his days with the Sox.

  413. Lad 9 says:

Just hopped on to catch the score and figured we were losing after reading a bit. Tough crowd today. :)

    Thanks for the score Jandy

  414. Jandy says:

LOL You got it Lad Man.
AJ must be looking good, and I can’t even watch..just following on the box score.

  415. Patrick(ri) says:

Apologies to NW. But he still had a bad AB.

  416. NMR says:

hey everybody aj has a NO HITTER GOING.

  417. Jandy says:

Ortiz in for Garza…Morneau at bat

  418. War Horse says:

I do believe Barmy and Justin make up in defense what they have been lacking in offense.

  419. SteelAg70 says:

If the Buccos put a team away early for AJ, it usually messes him up…lol.

  420. Jandy says:

  421. Kevin says:

that’s because we should be winning 7-0 right now :|

  422. Jandy says:

    And Morneau singles

  423. Jim S. says:

La la la. Can’t hear you.

  424. Nate83 says:

  425. Patrick(ri) says:

He looks great. Say no more!

  426. Jandy says:

    Byrd with a single…Morneau to third…wow

  427. florida steeler says:

What is you bias against Rios? He his hitting 294 between the two teams, with 36 steals.

Better than 90% of the Pirates, your bias is completely off base.

  428. Jim S. says:

He’s raking. Great acquisition. (Pot stirring).

  429. Jandy says:

    I thought Morneau was slow?

  430. AJ looks real good…

  431. Arriba Wilver says:

  432. Jandy says:

You pot stirrer, you, Jim :P

  433. Nate83 says:

Morneau > Cutch batting third. At least for today he is.

  434. Jandy says:

    Petey….c’mon. 2 on, no outs

  435. SteelAg70 says:

  436. Jandy says:

    :smacks head:
    he grounds into a DP

  437. Jim S. says:

    Good post, War.

  438. radio wave says:

Pirates 62-15 when scoring four or more runs. AJ won’t know how to cope with this kind of support.

  439. Jandy says:

Morneau scored tho, so that helps

  440. SteelAg70 says:

Well…at least he got ONE run home…

  441. Jandy says:

    Martin walks

  442. Jandy says:

  443. florida steeler says:

    Nothing new there.

  444. Jandy says:

And GI flies out to retire the side

  445. Irish says:

Very nice post, Sticky. For anyone interested, here are the numbers for 2013:

    Barmes vs. RHP .226 .269 .317
    Mercer vs. RHP .235 .287 .325
    (Mercer vs. LHP) .433 .480 .701

Barmes vs. Garza (all years) .273 .273 .818 (and walked today for the first time)
    Mercer has never faced Garza

  446. pattonbb says:

He’s not fast, but he’s a smart baserunner.

  447. SteelAg70 says:

    Some things never change. ;)

  448. Jim S. says:

Starting to go to LC the last few games. That is usually the best sign.

  449. Baywatch says:

    Or Lambo!

  450. Tom P. says:

At least he did not strike out, leaving Martin to ground into the DP, in which case the Pirates get no runs. It’s a four run lead going to the last of the fifth. No complaints here.

  451. Jandy says:

    Beltre pops out to Morneau

  452. Kevin says:

angry at myself for not being able to watch this game… only so I could yell at Day-dro for DP-ing… I think if you hit into a DP with no outs and score a run, you should have to vacate that RBI.

  453. Baywatch says:

One more biscuit for breakfast and Jones’ fly ball is outta here!

  454. Jandy says:

I’m happy with four runs…but Rangers have a lot of come from behind wins…gotta keep them from getting any momentum

  455. Karen22 says:

Hi, Mr. Plan! Speaking of anemic, at least our OUTS are productive today. We should be up by about ten about now!

  456. radio wave says:

Would Amac have caught that one?

  457. Kevin says:

    aww… byebye PG NONO :(

  458. Jandy says:

    Pierzynski batting…

  459. Baywatch says:

That was a can of corn plus for Cutch!

  460. NMR says:

What a great stat. Run producer!

  461. The Justice Avenger says:

I have to head out to a meeting…Go Bucs and Go Loonies! See ya all tomorrow…

  462. Jandy says:

    I hate that guy

  463. Jandy says:

    Later, TJA! ;)

  464. SteelAg70 says:

    You guys jinxed it! LOL

  465. Jim S. says:

You do vacate that RBI, Kevin.

  466. Jandy says:

OK crew, I gotta go too…stuff to attend to…Keep it going, everyone!

  467. florida steeler says:

    Tough catch–who knows??

  468. Jim S. says:

I know, Tom. But, we just can’t put teams away early even when they are begging to be put away. Not really complaining. This has been a very good team all year. Small worts here and there.

  469. Karen22 says:

You and the rest of the free world!

  470. radio wave says:

Thanks. Good to see you here.

  471. SteelAg70 says:

Aj is on today folks…I should have gone to the game today too…haha.

  472. Kevin says:

    ok so… AJ 1-hitter through 5 w/ 7 strikeouts… 66 pitches thrown. Likelihood to get through 8?

  473. Jim S. says:

    Yuk yuk.

  474. War Horse says:

Honestly, I don’t think Cutch could have caught that ball unless he was playing deeper. Pie is as fast as Cutch and he ran hard for the ball until the last second when he realized he wasn’t going to get there in time to make the catch. It was a good five or six feet beyond him on the warning track.

  475. Jim S. says:

He’ll give it everything he has to push for 9, knowing Kyle F. is the closer.

  476. radio wave says:

    Reds 6-0 final.

  477. pattonbb says:

Morneau’s been walkin’ in tall cotton today.

  478. War Horse says:

Cutch could not have caught that ball unless he was playing deeper. Pie is as fast as Cutch and he ran hard for the ball until the last second when he realized he wasn’t going to get there in time to make the catch. It was a good five or six feet beyond him on the warning track.

  479. Baywatch says:

Me, three, Steel! Wait! I’m broke!

  480. Baywatch says:

    Gulp. Kyle F?

  481. NMR says:

    What is the temperature?

  482. radio wave says:

    Aj 72 pitches, 47 strikes.

  483. Kevin says:

94F, according to for Arlington, TX.

  484. Nate83 says:

The temperature is 1 game back of the Cards and 2 games up on the Reds with 18 games to go.

  485. Jim S. says:

I’m using that line, patton. BTW, what does it mean? I’m using it, regardless.

  486. NMR says:

Oh my. No wonder Cutch isn’t playing.

  487. JohninOshkosh says:

    Uh oh

  488. Jim S. says:

I feel like our offense has gone into “we’ve scored all of our runs” mode. Plenty of wasted and near wasted chances again.

I hope AJ and what’s behind him can keep throwing up 0’s.

  489. SteelAg70 says:

  490. SteelAg70 says:

The heat may be getting to AJ…

  491. pattonbb says:

AJ hits the dreaded 6th inning wall.

  492. radio wave says:

    Time to get someone up.

  493. Kevin says:

we are due for a triply play… just sayin :|

  494. Karen22 says:

    CRAP!! AJ wilting fast!!

  495. JohninOshkosh says:

Bases juiced, no one out. Elvis at bat.

  496. SteelAg70 says:

  497. JohninOshkosh says:

2 run single off the glove of diving Barmes.

  498. florida steeler says:

Get him the hell out of the game Hurdle.

  499. SteelAg70 says:

The heat in that ballpark at this time of day can be brutal…

  500. irishjim says:

Uh oh…AJ throwin a fit not good

  501. JohninOshkosh says:

    Not charged with an error.

Rios hits into DP after AJB had repositioned Barmes.

  502. JohninOshkosh says:

Big run sitting there on third. Beltre up.

  503. SteelAg70 says:

Aj is AJ…I never worry about him throwing a fit…

  504. Nate83 says:

We have seen this movie a couple times this year. We know how it ends. Let’s get him out of there before he give up 5 runs. Pull him two hitters to soon instead of two hitters to late.

  505. florida steeler says:

I bet he was a handful for every teacher he had in school??

  506. Jay H says:

He’s just up in Barmes’ grill about where he was playing at short – way to far up the middle

  507. JohninOshkosh says:

Beltre flies to right center. And AJ is out of the inning.

    4-2 Pirates

  508. Baywatch says:

Phew! I’ll take 4-2, Good Guys, in the 7th! EXCEPT … Not enough of a lead for Farnsworth.

  509. SteelAg70 says:

Nice job AJ…way to get out of it….

  510. Nate83 says:

As I was saying. Good decision to leave him in.

  511. NMR says:

    Pirates – 83

    Hurdle – 61

  512. NMR says:

You act like it takes a feat of monumental proportion to get three outs in the 9th inning.

  513. Nate83 says:

I know it’s not the same as major league comptetition but how did Farnsworth pitch in the minors after we picked him up?

  514. JohninOshkosh says:

I bet other teams’ fans hate AJ Burnett.

  515. SteelAg70 says:

    Morneau finding his stroke again…

  516. JohninOshkosh says:

Funny, the Penguins use Mike Lange in their advertisements on ROOT sports to sell tickets.

  517. Arriba Wilver says:

  518. Kevin says:

Hes having a day thats for sure.

  519. NMR says:

Temperature must have gotten to Ortiz.

  520. SteelAg70 says:

It is at least 94F right now….not much of a breeze..

  521. Milo Hamilton says:

Didn’t matter where Barmes was playing when the 1st two batters walked, did it ?

  522. Milo Hamilton says:

    I hate AJ Burnett. Sometimes.

  523. JohninOshkosh says:

Plus, ROOT and Walk showed a side by side and it made little difference where Barmes was playing.

  524. SteelAg70 says:

A Byrd in the hand is worth 2 on the bases!!

  525. Arriba Wilver says:

Marlon Byrd was not on my radar, but I loves the guy now.

  526. Baywatch says:

I act like I’m afraid of these Texas hitters who woke up last night against MELANCON, who wasn’t really that far off his game! And I’m acting like this is FARNSWORTH, who by the numbers has had a hard time getting people out this year!

  527. Milo Hamilton says:

  528. SteelAg70 says:

Amen Arriba…would love to see the Bucs try to resign him if possible…

  529. Nate83 says:

+++ Didn’t even think he was an option. Great addition both on the field and off the field.

  530. irishjim says:

I agree. That was my original concern with AJ flipping out. Once ok but all that extra stuff in the dugout was unnecessary and damaging to team morale.

  531. NMR says:

Only made six appearances compared to 39 in the big leagues.

  532. JohninOshkosh says:

SF sighting! Pedro drives in Morneau. 5-2.

  533. Kevin says:

    woop! Daydro strikes again!

  534. radio wave says:

    Nice sac fly by PA.

  535. irishjim says:

When we first acquired him that’s why I posted the surfin bird lyrics ten times. Good to see AJ back in the dugout calmed down.

  536. Jay H says:

I’ll take AJ in my foxhole over any other guy in that dugout. He’s got his heart and soul in this…..and he’s leading by example. He’s not taking his millions and sitting on his a**. Love the fire!

  537. radio wave says:

As I said earlier, they’re beating themselves.

  538. JohninOshkosh says:

Byrd scores on WP. Bucs get back the two they just gave up.

  539. Milo Hamilton says:

AJ should have told the other AJ to move over.

  540. SteelAg70 says:

Pedro has really had some great AB’s this series….hopefully this is a good sign of a streak ready to break out…

  541. irishjim says:

  542. Patrick(ri) says:

    Forgot you could do that.

  543. NMR says:

Dom, if you’re out there…I’m sorry. You won this one pretty cleanly.

  544. Jim S. says:

Agreed. I would love for him to take a one year deal, but I think he wants a better pay day. It might be his last contract, and as I said before, he doesn’t have AJ money. Not at the point to be giving home town discounts.

  545. NMR says:

    Speaking of awful catchers….

  546. bizrow says:

    I’m on my 6th and 7th ;-)

  547. pattonbb says:

The great Red Barber used it to describe Dodger players, and even the team when they were successful.

“And with his third hit of the day, old Mister Lavagetto is walkin in tall cotton.”

  548. bizrow says:

That’s the way to respond to two runs by the bad guys

  549. Arriba Wilver says:

But to be fair, Dom wanted the Pirates to add ANYBODY and EVERYBODY.
    Hair was on fire! ;-)

  550. Jim S. says:

Patient, going to LC Pedro, is a very good Pedro. I love when he visits. Wish he would stay longer.

  551. Baywatch says:

    I do, … +2!

  552. JohninOshkosh says:

This Tech Sgt. singing “God Bless America” has some pipes on her. Well done. Tricky song to do a cappella.

  553. Jim S. says:

    Ditto, NMR.

  554. twentytwo22 says:

No he didn’t. I was listening to a weather warning.

  555. SteelAg70 says:

    Me too…this Pedro is good…haha.

  556. Arriba Wilver says:

    Who? The Rangers?

  557. Milo Hamilton says:

    Great base runner too, apparently.

  558. Jim S. says:

+ a billion. Dom did throw a lot against the wall at the deadline. He was definitely on Byrd, though.

  559. JohninOshkosh says:

I might be the only one alive who likes A.J. Pierzynski.

I follow the White Sox, have since I was a kid, and they would not have a world title without him. Also, he brawled with Cubs, which is always cool in my book.

  560. 21sthebest says:

Why in the world would he be charged with an error for that?

  561. SteelAg70 says:

I bet AJ wants to tell the other AJ to STFD!!

  562. Kevin says:

so I guess AJ’s not making it through 8… anyone watching the game that can tell me who we have warming in the bp?

  563. 21sthebest says:

You think he went to class?

  564. SteelAg70 says:

Ok CH…you can go get him now…

  565. JohninOshkosh says:

Jeanmar Gomez was last up. Not sure who is in there now.

  566. Jim S. says:

When it’s “friendly” fire. When he’s going toe to toe with the Manager, I don’t think that is helpful.

  567. Kevin says:

also, anyone watching that can explain how you single on a pop-up to Neil Walker? *shakes fist at stupid MLB app*

  568. 21sthebest says:

Looks like normal DP depth to me.

  569. Milo Hamilton says:

Should be warm & fuzzy when Hurdle pulls Burnett.

  570. 21sthebest says:

“You act like it takes a feat of monumental proportion to get three outs in the 9th inning.”

I say that’s the power of the media!

  571. SteelAg70 says:

Must have been a Texas Leaguer…lol

  572. Jim S. says:

I can tell he’s gassed from my phone.

  573. JohninOshkosh says:

That was chilly in the Texas heat! Good call, Milo.

  574. Milo Hamilton says:

Completely turned his back to his manager, Never even looked at him.

  575. Parrothead01 says:

Why is Burnett still in the game? Is Clint trying to give another F’in game away. He needs to grow a set and stand up to A J.

  576. florida steeler says:

    Ha-ha–good point; doubt it.

  577. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, it was just outside of Walker’s reach.

  578. Baywatch says:

    +1, 911

  579. florida steeler says:

As long as that fox hole isn’t in the post season–choke artist of monumental proportions. His attitude sucks.

  580. florida steeler says:

And, then, replace him with that loser Steigerwald. Who does he know to keep his job?

  581. JohninOshkosh says:

Did Burnett really think he should stay in ? Do Clint and him even talk to each other ? I’m not sure AJ would come back even if offered a contract. That was a terse moment.

  582. Kevin says:

    was it? D:

  583. Baywatch says:

I’ve found you either have the set, or you don’t. You can’t GROW ‘EM!

  584. Milo Hamilton says:

Not true at all. Popular misconception, completely false.

  585. Nate83 says:

To be fair he did stand up to him pretty dramatically in the game AJ told the bullpen to STFD. Everyone on the team knows who the boss is. I’m not his biggest fan of his in game decisions but overall I like him. With the help of Cutch he has really changed the culture of the team. Cutch embraces him and the rest of the team follows.

  586. radio wave says:

Rangers have 44 comeback wins, most in MLB.

  587. Arriba Wilver says:

In a battle between AJ and Clint, my money’s on Clint. AJ has brung a lot, but I think we already got the best of what he has, on and off the field. Baseball is a fickle game.

  588. Jim S. says:

I missed all the games Hurdle gave away.

  589. Parrothead01 says:

Good point. Maybe he just needs to find them and use them sooner.

  590. irishjim says:

AJ is a Richard plain and simple. Take it or leave it I guess. He’s one of the big reasons they are good again

  591. Nate83 says:

But you can lose them. Happened to a guy on my high school football team. Yes it was football related and yes he was wearing an athletic supporter.

  592. Jim S. says:

Sometimes he acts like a petulant 8 year old. I don’t care how much “fire” he has. That is just plain selfish.

  593. Kevin says:

my phone is telling me that Jenmars throwing lots of balls.

  594. Nate83 says:

I think he is 83-61. Did you miss all 61 losses?

  595. Parrothead01 says:

If they would have blown this one, it would have been the third out of AJ’s last six where he gave away a lead.

  596. SteelAg70 says:

    Dangit Gomez…

  597. florida steeler says:

Hurdle should not put up with that guy and he should have been out of the game at the end of the 6th. I swear Hurdle is intimidated by Burnett.

  598. Brandie says:

I see I missed a lot of fun and games today. Had a long day at work.

  599. Karen22 says:

This feels like we’re going to give this game away. I don’t like it!

  600. Kevin says:

come on jeno, throw strikes :|

  601. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s time like these that the Rangers really miss Nelson Cruz’ pharmacist.

  602. Karen22 says:

    He is. Not good.

  603. Jim S. says:

Rangers must fall behind a lot. Like 3/3 this week.

  604. Milo Hamilton says:

Management’s already tired of his act.Baltimore, Washington or Philadelphia. That’s it, that’s the list.

  605. SteelAg70 says:

Can we get someone in there who can throw strikes today? Please?

  606. JohninOshkosh says:

Bryan Morris warming up in pen.

  607. pattonbb says:

That was the first time I remember rooting for the Cubs. They say Michael Barrett became the most popular player in mlb that day.

I’ve never heard any former teammates say anything positive about the guy. Jermaine Dye hated him.

  608. florida steeler says:

I would not second that opinion.

  609. SteelAg70 says:

Get Gomez out of there Hurdle!!

  610. Arriba Wilver says:

I could have hit that last pitch by Jeanmar.

  611. Karen22 says:

MORRIS!!??? Just turned off my TV!

  612. irishjim says:

    Morris? Why why why.

  613. SteelAg70 says:

    Uh-oh…it’s Morris time…

  614. Milo Hamilton says:

They’re going to need about 10 to win this one.

  615. pattonbb says:

trouble…trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble…..trouble been doggin’ my soul since the day I was born.

  616. Parrothead01 says:

I am not saying I want to get rid of AJ. He has done a lot for the Pirates. I just want Clint to put the team first and make the change when it needs to be changed , not delay the change so as not to upset AJ.

  617. SteelAg70 says:

I think this heat has bothered the BP the last two games….very uncharacteristic of this team…

  618. tdb1977 says:

    Well…great. Morris is in.

  619. Brandie says:

Hope we bring home the W. Time for Morris to put on his big boy pants and pitch!

  620. Nate83 says:

Because the rest of the pen was used last night. A lot of teams in the majors have worse 5th or 6th options in the bullpen then Morris. I am thankful we are so deep in the pen.

  621. Jim S. says:

Oh well. They rarely make it easy on themselves.

  622. SteelAg70 says:

So Morris starts off with a ball…uggghhh…

  623. JohninOshkosh says:

    Excellent Ray LaMontagne reference.

  624. AJS says:

This is getting out of control. And Bryan Morris is now in meaning it is about to get worse.

  625. Jim S. says:

    He’s due, though, Nate.

  626. JohninOshkosh says:

Big out. Beltre was on deck.

  627. AJS says:

Hey check it out…Morris just recorded an out. No walks. No hits just an out. Amazing feat!

  628. irishjim says:

I shouldn’t be shocked that an MLB reliever can retire one batter, but I am.

  629. Brandie says:

    Brian Morris Anthem…

Nobody loves me but my mother, but she could be jivin’ too!

    B. B. King

  630. SteelAg70 says:

    Nice job Morris…BIG out….

  631. pattonbb says:

    Bryan Morris, the Stopper.

  632. Baywatch says:

Can we pinch-hit for Pie yet?

  633. pattonbb says:

    Cool guy, great writer.

  634. Jim S. says:

Unfortunately, he probably has to cover the 8th as well, right?

  635. AJS says:

You know what I hate about Garret Jones as a DH? you can’t pinch hit for him with a lefty on the mound because then you lose your DH!

  636. JohninOshkosh says:

He got a very warm welcome when the Rangers played at Chicago last week. White Sox fans appreciate him.

  637. florida steeler says:

How is he on a roster?? Our minors that deplete of talent that Pie is on the team?? Hard to believe there is not someone better in our system than him???

  638. AJS says:

Or you pinch hit with Harrison and just concede to a pinch hitter every time teh spot comes up I guess?

  639. Milo Hamilton says:

    Um, no you don’t.

  640. Milo Hamilton says:

    Um, no.

  641. Ghost says:

    Was Just popping in…
See the usual complainers are making noise because Clint Hurdle doesn’t use twelve pitchers per game, swapping each one out just as soon as he gets a ball in the count. Popping back out due to the complainers.

  642. Milo Hamilton says:

Barmes should get that ball & give it to AJ.

  643. Arriba Wilver says:

    Barmes sucks. :-P

  644. Nate83 says:

September call ups. All teams have guys like him in September.

  645. JohninOshkosh says:

Barmes hits the foul pole. 7-5

  646. Ghost says:

And the Barmes bashers need to pop out, too.

  647. Milo Hamilton says:

…and tell him where he can put it.

  648. Baywatch says:

  649. AJS says:

No one percieved to be ready. Lambo was up already. Couldn’t recall Presley due to the 10 day rule…now he is gone.

Could have tried to send Pie through waivers when the 10 days were up to recall Presley but he likely would have been claimed meaning that if they lost one more outfielder they’d be aclling up essentially double A guys. Don’t see any of them on teh 40 man either so the contract would have to be purchased…you get the point.

  650. AJS says:

  651. Nate83 says:

Wait a second. Has AW and Bob ever posted at the same time.

  652. Arriba Wilver says:

  653. Baywatch says:

I LIKE the way he sucks!

  654. AJS says:

Does that only apply in the event of an injury to the DH? I know there are situations where taking the DH out of the game means you forfeit the right to DH…

  655. SteelAg70 says:

Barmes loves hitting the foul pole…haha…

  656. Stickyweb says:

Thank God Hurdle put the lineup together to get 10, right Milo?

  657. JohninOshkosh says:

Remember when this game started 6 hours ago ?

  658. Nate83 says:

Sands was the only other option. If you consider him and option. I have no problem with him being on the team. He wouldn’t be playing so much if Marte wasn’t hurt. He would only be a pinch runner and a possible defense replacement for Tabata if you beleive Tabata is horrible at defense. I personally think he is average.

  659. Lad 9 says:

Only if you put him the field

  660. Jim S. says:

If Morris falters in the 8th, who do we think cleans up that inning? Wilson?

  661. Jim S. says:

Maybe even help him put it there.

  662. Arriba Wilver says:

I think we should re-sign Clint Barmes.

(Sorry, just throwing a smoke bomb)

  663. Nate83 says:

It would have to be I would think. I can’t see Stolmy getting the ball in that situation. Let’s hope we don’t find out.

  664. Milo Hamilton says:

When you pinch hit for your DH, that guy Harrison in this case) becomes the DH. If you put Harrison at 2B, then you’re SOL.

  665. Thundercrack says:

    This just in:

Clint Barmes rejects hometown discount contract from Pirates.
Certain poster on local blog jumps for joy.

  666. Nate83 says:

I know you are not serious but yes as Mercer’s back up and for no more then 2 million for 1 year. I think he is an excellant reserve infielder.

  667. SteelAg70 says:

    Either Wilson or Vin…

  668. Lad 9 says:

    Is Watson unavailable today?

  669. Arriba Wilver says:

  670. Thundercrack says:

  671. JohninOshkosh says:

Marte in the field. First time since injury.

  672. AJS says:

Thanks. I was just looking it up. I knew there was something. Leave it to me to overreact!

  673. Jim S. says:

I have a pot on the stove that needs stirred. Can you help me out?

  674. Stickyweb says:

As we all predicted, Hurdle knew Barmes would have a great AB against Tanner Scheppers. That’s why he got the start.

  675. Jim S. says:

Thanks. I had forgotten about the Vin Man.

  676. Milo Hamilton says:

There is no way this conglomeration of jabronie relievers is going to get this done. Is there ? Maybe ?

  677. Baywatch says:

How in the world is it just the 8th! The color guy, Grieve, I’ve had about as much as I can take from his milquetoast delivery!

  678. Milo Hamilton says:

Now because of the injury, he can’t catch with 2 hands anymore.

  679. Parrothead01 says:

The Rangers have 5 straight lefties up. Why not bring Wilson or Watson in?

  680. Baywatch says:

(Grieve, on the Rangers broadcast, that is)

  681. Jim S. says:

  682. Jim S. says:

I think they would have to reattach Watson’s arm first.

  683. SteelAg70 says:

He is not good…..their radio team is much better…

  684. Jim S. says:

    Not necessarily likely.

  685. SteelAg70 says:

Hmmmm…Marte in LF…good sign…hopefully he can get back to the lineup this weekend.

  686. JohninOshkosh says:

    Time for the Italian.

  687. SteelAg70 says:

    Here we go again Morris….uggghhh…

  688. Jim S. says:

There’s a 2-mitt joke there somewhere begging to be put out of it’s misery.

  689. Patrick(ri) says:

I try to be objective about Morris, but it seems to me he is only suited for mop-up action.

  690. Arriba Wilver says:

Sit down, Nate, before you read this.

But I actually agree with you. The 2 mil even sounds about right. They gave that to Vazquez to sit on his butt at home for a year.

  691. SteelAg70 says:

Wow…CH must be saving Wilson for the 9th (sarcasm involved)…

  692. Arriba Wilver says:

  693. SteelAg70 says:

    Between Morris and Lerch…uggghh…

  694. Jim S. says:

I was going to watch the replay of this when I got home tonight. But, at this point, win or lose I don’t think I could take it.

  695. SteelAg70 says:

Can ANYBODY get ahead in the counts now?? Geezzz

  696. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Sorry I’m late to the party. Actually had some work to do and didn’t realize today was an afternoon game.

I’m sure I missed a lot of “why isn’t Cutch in the lineup” and “Barmes sucks” blah blah blah at the top. I just skipped it all.

On that note: I’m not a fan of Bryan Morris being the 8th inning guy. I don’t like him in the current match up against the best hitters on the Rangers team.

And without further ado, here’s The Vin Man.

    Fingers crossed.

  697. Stickyweb says:

Not to be Debbie Downer, but the Bucs have lost at least the last 10 games Morris has pitched in. Sure they’ve trailed in some when he entered, but he also has 3 losses and a hold during that stretch. Pretty amazing.

  698. SteelAg70 says:

    Nice Vinnie Bingbamboom!

  699. Jim S. says:

Actually, they didn’t have much choice with all the work from the pen lately, Nor Cal. And, Kyle Farnsworth is today’s closer.

  700. pattonbb says:

  701. Baywatch says:

Boy, I love Eric Nadel on radio, to me, he is the best in the business. Color or play-by-play. I like the teamwork he had with Victor Rojas.

  702. irishjim says:

    Mazarro….Pittsburgh’s Italian stallion!

  703. Arriba Wilver says:

Jones doesn’t make that stop that Morneau just made.

  704. Thundercrack says:

I would actually like to see him play some second base —to make sure he can actually do it.

  705. SteelAg70 says:

    The Vin Meister!!

  706. Baywatch says:

Whew! OK three more runs for Farney! I don’t understand why they wouldn’t let Wilson close it instead, with his crackling fastball! Of course, he’s fallible!

  707. Baywatch says:

  708. Baywatch says:

    Yo, Adrienne!

  709. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Has he shown his face yet since being called up? I like his addition BTW.

I figured MM would have the day off (gasp) after 2 days in a row.

I don’t think Grilli is quite right yet, maybe more dust than pain.

  710. Baywatch says:

Morneau! Serviceable vs. the lefties today!

  711. SteelAg70 says:

May be because he is a veteran guy…former closer and knows these hitters from being in the AL…

  712. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Not today.

  713. Arriba Wilver says:

That doesn’t bother me in the least. Attaching me to some of his critics would bother me.

  714. pattonbb says:

Barmes with a HR? Clint Hurdle is a freakin’ genius.

Farnsworth is pitching the 9th in a close game? Clint Hurdle is a freakin’ idiot!!!!!

  715. Baywatch says:

I’m goin’ to hide under the bed!

  716. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I like JM with a 4-5 game today.

I do think there is something to the AL hitters switching to NL. Especially for a guy like JM who spent his entire career in the AL. Might be a little more comfortable against guys he may already know.

Pitchers always have the advantage in a unknown situation like that. Sure, the Pirates have tons of scouting information for him to read and learn, but its nothing like the real thing (giggidty) for a hitter to make the adjustments.

I think JM is going to have a good turn of events for the rest of the month.

  717. Milo Hamilton says:

For those of you unfamiliar with Kyle Farnsworth’s past history, it’s best I leave you in the dark. :)

  718. Baywatch says:

Nice to see Kinsler up there, nobody on base.

  719. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

What is KF’s fastball velocity these days? I’m watching on GAMECAST so I don’t the MPH.

Anybody? He used to be big time heat with a good slider.

  720. pattonbb says:

    I saw 92

  721. Arriba Wilver says:

I absolutely love seeing Marte in left. He makes us a better team.

  722. Lad 9 says:

Killing me being out of town and not seeing this. And the Sirrius is like 10 minutes behind.

  723. pattonbb says:

    just hit 94

  724. Jay H says:

    Just hit 94

  725. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  726. Milo Hamilton says:

    The Farns !! (Exhales)

  727. Baywatch says:

The Farney & Barmey Show! Raise it!

  728. MadTurk says:

Not near as tired as Cal Ripken.

  729. Baywatch says:

+1 Let’s go get messed up!

  730. Baywatch says:

    Good call!

  731. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Thank you. He can dial it up. not bad

  732. cmat0829 says:

cant you tell by my avatar :)

  733. TJA says:

Get swept in St. Louie and then sweep the Rangers…Baseball indeed is a crazy game. I have tix for tomorrow night at PNC…should be a blast to welcome the Bucs home.

  734. Lad 9 says:

WHEEEEEWWWWW! Raise it! Sweeping the Rangers is a REALLLY big deal. This group never gives in. What a blast!

  735. Brandie says:

Way to go. A little dicey, but it’s win #84!

  736. Lad 9 says:

Will be there on Sunday. Bring it home tomorrow TJA!

  737. TJA says:

  738. Baywatch says:

Morris hasn’t showed me anything either. I don’t see him coming back next year.

  739. Milo Hamilton says:

They are gutsy, that’s for sure. So happy for Barmes especially.

  740. TJA says:

    and you on Sunday, Lad!

  741. John Lease says:

Did you catch how fond he was of Barmes in today’s game? On that, Burnett and I agree.

  742. John Lease says:

True that. Watching Morris pitch is cringe-worthy.

  743. TJA says:

Indeed, Brandie…these kinds of wins build a championship team…

  744. cmat0829 says:

Will need to see my posts that can be classified as “Hurdle is a God”. I unequivocably believe Hurdle’s leadership has been key to this team’s success and I happen to think he is a fine manager ..not the best ever, not “God-like” but pretty much manages like every other manager does.

I don’t spend time criticizing each and every move he makes so my posts on this topic are always in refuting the frequent critiques of his lineups or managerial decisions…and yes, those are probably in defense of the move or at least suggesting the criticism is over the top.

C’est la vie. I am happy Clint is the manager, others can feel differently and that’s groovy.

  745. Thundercrack says:

    Hurdle stinks!

  746. 11 to 95, Brandelita.

(Juan Hippolito enjoys my math ability)

  747. John Lease says:

Not with the at bats they both have.

    But why quibble.

  748. cmat0829 says:

I have no such Rios bias. I was happy he struck out and rooting for the Bucs. Me thinks you read too much into the posts.

  749. cmat0829 says:

simply because his name is clint.

  750. John Lease says:

Tabata can play center, so can Byrd.

Pie DID get a walk today, but has no dove below .200.

Too much Hurdle Fascination with Pie.

  751. John Lease says:

And now, 15-5. We’re statistically better against the DH league. That’s a first…

  752. twentytwo22 says:

Good win. Strong performance. Showing up with the same will on this homestand is important.

  753. cmat0829 says:

  754. John Lease says:

Then I’d pile on some more! He finally scored some runs as a Pirate. RBI, still waiting. What happened to his power? Left it on the plane to Pittsburgh? Singles hitters we have already.

  755. Bob Hasis says:

Mr Toocha is so far wrong, you would know that – as I am sure he does if you saw today’s game – that AJ despises Barmes, for playing out of position.
That is if you believe AJ

  756. cmat0829 says:

MM, in case you missed it, threw like 35 pitches last night, so (gasp) I think I’d not use him today also.

  757. cmat0829 says:

Barmes is a bum. Mercer would have hit 2 HRs and also positioned himself right where AJ was gonna give up the laced ground balls…. and hitting the foul pole? Amateur. Mercer wouldn’t have had it be so close to a foul ball.

  758. Bob Hasis says:

I trust NMR, cmat and saw the interplay between Barmes and AJ to know Mr. Toocha’s original fantasy was all hogwash – as I told him so.

Of course these three will have a different take on that verbal exchange

  759. Bob Hasis says:

Truth seems to really bother you

  760. John Lease says:

Except he came up in August.

  761. Steelag70 says:

    Get out those brooms!!!

  762. cmat0829 says:

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER. Magic number to clinch playoff spot is TEN. The Nats may be charging hard, but it is only a going away present to Davey Johnson.

Only the fans who didn’t proclaim the season over on Sunday afternoon can enjoy this sweep… to those that did (you know who you are), I will wag my finger at you until game time tomorrow (and yes since it is September I can legally do that).

  763. John Lease says:

Farnsworth has been good since he’s been a Pirate.

And he has the tattoos to prove it.

  764. florida steeler says:

    Not better than Vin Scully!!!

  765. cmat0829 says:

The truth is Barmes shouldn’t even be on this roster. Everything else is pure fiction.

  766. John Lease says:

Like he ever plays past the 6th inning!

  767. John Lease says:

Gee, you aren’t hysterical at all…

  768. bizrow says:

    Stan, Brian, Tony

2 for Friday Sept 20 if you are interested. Let me know in the next couple of days, will be leaving Saturday at noon

  769. TJA says:

    Outstanding, Biz!

  770. Eric Bowser says:

I’m stuck in traffic, remember the game is on and what do I hear right before entering the Squirrel Hill Tunnel…. Barmes pulls a 97 mph fastball for a HR.

Who knew 82 was just a number on the way to bigger and better things? LOL

  771. Arriba Wilver says:

I am very happy to say I will be in attendance tomorrow night to welcome the first winning Pirate team in eons to PNC. Somewhat surprisingly, there are lots of good seats at bargain basement prices, so don’t stay away because you think it will be sold out or too expensive.

  772. Arriba Wilver says:

Actually the first Pirates winning team to PNC. That seems weird to even say,

  773. Eric Bowser says:

Son’s soccer practice was rained out Monday evening so the coach rescheduled for tomorrow…. really debating on whether to go or not.

  774. I know who Stan and Brian are, but who’s Tony?

  775. Bob Hasis says:

Let me call your attention to the “blazing” lack of speed displayed by Barmes on that muffed DP ball by Andrus. He (Barmes) allowed himself to be thrown out at second.

Anyone else on this team would have been safe.

Just another small bit of evidence of his general lack of speed and quickness so vital to playing well at SS.

Who was right on that confrontation between AJ and Barmes? Was Barmes out of position?

  776. Arriba Wilver says:

Should go, Eric. I’ve been to the opening game, Cole’s debut and Byrd’s debut this year. Should be special.

  777. Give them a couple extra claps and cheers for me as I won’t be able to make it for the game AW. I’ll be there for the last three home games.

  778. bizrow says:

Ask Drew, his arch enemy ;-)

    Can you make it up?

  779. bizrow says:

Put in your calendar March 31, 2014 vs the Cubbies, AW

  780. bizrow says:

That statement gave me chills down the spine

  781. Sure hope to see a video of the ovation they get.

I never cry, but that might bring a tear or two.

  782. bizrow says:

No, can you use the tickets?

  783. bizrow says:

I still say, the best is yet to come

I will gladly admit I will cry when that day comes ;-)

  784. Arriba Wilver says:

  785. Bob Hasis says:

What about the body language and the real language offered to Barmes by AJ.

It didn’t appear that AJ favored Barmes at all – about anything.

    Did you see it?

  786. Bob Hasis says:

Thank you, but that will not please those who continue to say Barmes hits righties better

  787. Bob Hasis says:

I’d offer to buy you a beer – or beverage of your choice

  788. Bob Hasis says:

No just you seem to prefer that

  789. Brandie says:

Good to hear from you both TJA And Revvie!

  790. Arriba Wilver says:

If you come up, Lucky, I will commit to organizing a “gathering” in your honor.

  791. Thundercrack says:

    Here we go.

How much speed and quickness did Cal Ripken Jr have?

  792. Karen22 says:

You know, you are absolutely right! I’ve lost a lot of respect for AJ of late because of his calling out his players from the mound. I suppose Barmes was responsible for WALKING THE FIRST TWO BATTERS that inning?! Both of which SCORED, by the way, AJ!

I’m not liking his act down the stretch. Bad form!!

  793. Karen22 says:

    What do you mean, “IF??”

  794. Arriba Wilver says:

I don’t think Tony exists. And I think he would confirm that, if asked.

  795. JD says:

I was able to get 3 decent seats in 114 this morning. Looking forward to seeing them take the field.

  796. Arriba Wilver says:

    I got 2 in 113.

  797. JohninOshkosh says:

Your name is Stan? Great name.

  798. JohninOshkosh says:

    Way to go, JD!

    Should be cool.

  799. Baywatch says:

    Evening, Brothers & Sisters!

  800. Next time I’m up, I’ll take you up on it.

  801. Baywatch says:

    Heck yeah, Eric! Up here!

  802. Baywatch says:

I just got a job with American Airlines. Look for me to head up next summer!

  803. Baywatch says:

Devil’s advocate: Ripken was a hitting shortstop, so he doesn’t count in comparing to Barmes! LOL!

  804. Baywatch says:

NMR, Farnsworth made it look easy, didn’t he? I am reminded of the guy who said once: “Don’t tell me worrying doesn’t help; nothing I ever worried about ever happened!”

  805. Lad 9 says:

    Congrats Bay! Awesome news!

  806. JohninOshkosh says:

    Buenos Noches, Mr. Watch.

Congrats on the new gig with AA.

  807. pattonbb says:

I’m sure my opinion would be different if he played for my team. I was always a big fan of Jermaine Dye. He played AA ball here in Greenville. Seemed like a really good kid. When I heard they didn’t get along, I immediately joined “Team Dye”.

  808. 21sthebest says:

Don’t talk about Arriba’s boy that way.

Just wanted to try that on for size.

  809. pattonbb says:

Baywatch! Congrats on the new job. AA lost a bag of mine in 1997. Never found it. Can you help a fellow lunatic out?

    Seriously, congratulations.

  810. Mrevo says:

    off by one

  811. 21sthebest says:

He prefers to go by Stanimal.

  812. 21sthebest says:

    Well I have 115 covered.

  813. JohninOshkosh says:

Some of my most admired people are named Stan:

Stan Lee; Stan Musial; Stan Laurel; Stan Mikita; Stanley Kubrick; Stanley Kramer; and Stanley Roper

  814. JohninOshkosh says:

You guys should have a brew with JD. Good guy with some good Pirates stories.

  815. pattonbb says:

    Stanley Tucci

  816. JD says:

AW & 21. I’d love to have a beer. I’ll send a message on tomorrow morning thread.

  817. Baywatch says:

Bust my britches, Fellows! I was wondering where everyone hangs out after the game! Thanks for the well-wishes!

  818. Baywatch says:

    Thanks, Lad!

  819. Baywatch says:

Hey, Don’t forget about Stan Laurel (froofin’ my hair into a funny pile on top of my head as I say that, a-la-Laurel & Hardy)!

  820. Drew71 says:

I wish they’d lose my old bag.

  821. Drew71 says:

Good job, Bay! so to speak.

  822. Drew71 says:

    Oh please. Make it so.

  823. KenKopp says:

Hey Kiddos. Got home from work about about a half hour ago but didn’t want to jump in and jinx the Brewers lead. Tie game now so I hope its safe. I remember at the top of the blog before I left to work everyone was concerned we had our “B” lineup in and was getting on Hurdle before the game even started. The gum chewer just might have a clue what makes this team click. Just a thought.

    Bucs win! Go Brewers.

  824. radio wave says:

    The Mrs.?

  825. Arriba Wilver says:

No, he’s a non-factor, if not a detriment. Bring back John Russell! :-P

  826. Arriba Wilver says:

  827. Baywatch says:

  828. KenKopp says:

Dang, bases loaded Cards, tie game, one out, bottom of the 8th. Pennant races are a blast.

  829. Arriba Wilver says:

    No, I don’t.

  830. Arriba Wilver says:

  831. Arriba Wilver says:

It’s a standing offer, my friend,

  832. Arriba Wilver says:

  833. Arriba Wilver says:

    Please do.

  834. Arriba Wilver says:

  835. radio wave says:

    Cards win 5 to 1.

  836. Arriba Wilver says:

  837. Arriba Wilver says:

Maybe DK could join us, unless, of course, there’s a Pens practice. ;-)

    DK: For what?

  838. JD says:

DK -for a beer at the ballpark.

DK: I don’t drink, but what day will you guys be there?

It’s looking like only game I’ll cover is Saturday.

  839. Arriba Wilver says:

Or a latte. DK doesn’t drink.

  840. Arriba Wilver says:

I”m buying, unless DK wants something special.

  841. Arriba Wilver says:

We’re talking tomorrow night’s game for the Pirate’s team that has clinched a winning season for the first time in PNC’s history, and the first time in 20 years for the Pirates. And their first home game since they clinched it.
