  1. First!!! Yes!!!

No Barmes to p*$s people off, though I am pretty sure the anti-Mercer among us will have something to chirp about. :-)

  2. Reds are beating Brewers 6 to 3 in the seventh-inning

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

  4. It’s OK Brandie, 24/7 reported that Mercer learned how to play short from Barmes. So if he does well, it’s Barmes credit, if he does not, he wasn’t paying enough attention…

  5. Oakland with a chance to beat the Rangers.

I would love to see a Oak/PBC WS.

Two “small market” teams and a battle of the former 70′s powers.

  8. Lets Go Bucs!!

  9. BTW hometown is Washington, PA, but I call home for now in Fredericksburg, VA.

Long time Lurker. You guys sure do crack me up.

  10. Good lineup.

Now a gem from Cole and some hits and a good night at the yard.

  11. Final reds win 7-3.

  12. Getting down for the pre-game VICTORY nap!

  13. My foursome today included the nephew of THE Jimmy Piersall as well as a retired minor league pitcher. They could play. Big hitters. It was a scramble and needless to say, we used exactly zero of my drives.

  14. The St.Louis Cardinals possess what is called dumb luck. The Mariners had them shut
out on 4 hits until, somehow the Cards tied it up and then won it on a passed ball with the bases loaded in the 10th. The Bucs could have scored a run to tie, but someone stole their bats for the last two innings. GO, BUCS!!!

  15. My electric just came back on. I see I didn’t miss anything.

  16. Cub announcers just said that Pirates average with RISP (.227) was second lowest only to the Cubs. I knew it was bad but not aware it was that bad!!!!!

  17. Jamie Dixon and family in the park. First row behind the plate. Good evening coach!

  18. Well… least they broke up the no hitter.

  19. Geez–this team cannot hit. When the year is over with 90+ wins, we will scratch our heads and ask how the he_ _ did that lousy hitting team ever do so well.

  20. Jose Tabata – 5 hits to LF over 200 feet at PNC Park

Starling Marte – 16 hits to LF over 200 feet at PNC Park

…. Marte needs to get over the pain and get his bat back into the lineup.

  21. Bats nonexistent again against some no-name journeyman. Need to win. Reds won. Cards will win. Nats were winning.

  22. Neil Walker is giving this team nothing but so are some others. You look at that lineup and there are just too many holes.
Pedro gets a hit every once in a while but leads the league in strikeouts. Other than Cutch and Byrd, there are no go to guys to get hits. Most nights we make every pitcher look like the Cy Young winner.

  23. Some might say it is the ebb and flow of the sport. In this case, too much ebb and not nearly enough flow.

  24. Once again, a no-name pitcher that the Bucs can’t figure out. These games are very important and it seems that these Pirates don’t care if they win or not. That’s my view on
    it, anyway.

  25. Finally, Tabata rips one over 200 feet

  26. Doesn’t count– not tomleft field.

  27. Holy crap! The dumb guy just tied this game.

    Atta boy Tabata.

  28. The Buccos just seem to be like the other pro teams in the Burgh….they play to the level of competition…

  29. Tabata’s swing on HR much different than normal swing. He really needs to stay back more and not learn body into pitch like he normally does…. you can see the power with the bat if he can do it.

  30. The Cards have struggled the last two nights vs Seattle and are losing again…2-0…the losing teams are the ones that usually bite you in the butt…

  31. Come on Gerrit…

  32. Come on Hurdle use the Shark Tank.

  33. Nice KO Gerrit…one more out…

  34. Ace effort from Gerrit Cole!

  35. Yes sir Gerrit Cole, that was some big time pitching right there to get out of the inning, his last two starts have shown his growth right before our eyes.

And Martin shows why he catches full time, those blocks of the slider in the dirt putting his body in front of the ball showcased his defensive worth.

Now let’s get the kid another run.

    • JRay..well said….he really does seem to be getting stronger down the stretch….

    • +45. I just love this kid!

    • What we are watching with Cole is a major coming out party for the young man. He is going to be damn good for us for years to come. If we have to play the wild card game – I want him to start it. I know he is just a rookie, but he is pitching lights out right now. Give him the ball ever 5 days and look what he has been doing. First against the Rangers and now against the Cubs.

    • I remember when they drafted Cole and lots of Bucco fans said they screwed up and should have taken Trever Bauer…hmmmmm…sure glad they didn’t. :D

      • A lot of media guys too. But I don’t think many scouting directors or GM’s shared that opinion. They thought he was a screwball – and they may be right.

  36. Marlon Byrd goes yard, cannon ball coming, 2-1 Buccos, just awesome!

  38. BYRDMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  39. The Byrd is the wyrrrddddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. Please rest Morneau tomorrow. Our pitching staff has as many RBI s the last ten games as he does. At least drop him to seventh or eighth in the lineup.

  41. Byrd is the word….

  42. Byrd now .290 on the season

  43. I hope we can keep Byrd in a Bucco uniform next year.

  44. Elementary my dear Watson!!

  45. And there is another hold and zero on the board from Watson, his 17th consecutive game having not allowed a run. What a force he has turned into.

  46. Brandie no high places now. Central Florida 34 PSU 31. Final.

  47. And on a Kendry Morales HR the M’s lead the Cards 3-0 in the 8th!

  48. Come on Shark….bring it home…..

  49. Ugghhh…should have been an out…

  50. Damn Martin…

  51. Two… Three…raise the Jolly Roger!!!

  52. RAISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. The Shark Tank…Opponents Are Our Chum(s).

Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

  54. Go Mariners!

  55. 3-1 M’s now, bottom 8th…

  56. Behind an ace like performance from Gerrit Cole who earns his eighth win of the year, solo jacks from Jose Tabata and Marlon Byrd and close out innings from Watson and Melancon the Bucs take the third game of this four game set 2-1 and there was noooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Bucs improve to 86-62 and are winners of five of their last six games. The Pirates are 9-6 versus Chicago and 7-6 in September. The Pirates are a 1/2 game behind the Cards and could move back into a first place tie if the M’s hold on against the Cards. The Pirates are 7.5 games up on a playoff spot, could grow to 8 by jight’s end with just 14 games remaining.

The Pirates will look for the series win tomorrow when Francisco Liriano takes the mound for the Bucs.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  57. Liriano on the mound to win the series. Get it done Pirates and Friday was just a blip on the radar.

  58. Raise that Mother!

  59. Raise it! Great day in the Burgh – The North Shore Sweep! Byrd, Tabby and Cole – thank you!

  60. Where would this team be without Gerrit Cole?

    Ace in the making

  61. Love it when we can Raise it High!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Don’t look now, but the Dodgers are behind the Giants…3-1…

  63. I am happy for Teke…you can see he is like a proud papa!

  64. C’mon M’s…get some insurance…

  65. M’s 2 aboard top 9th…no outs

  66. Yes! 4-1 M’s

  67. Okay, bottom 9th now…hold em M’s!!!

  68. First place, thy name is Farquhar!

  69. Lord Farquhar

  70. Tied for first on Sept. 14th. 14 games left to decide the most exciting pennant race in baseball.

  71. Lord Farquhar slays the evil redbird…first place Buccos!!!

  72. Farquhar! First place tie and the Cardinals had no offense.

  73. Let’s Go Bucs!!!

  74. Whooop! Happy Anniversary to me! (Tomorrow – 1st place on Sept. 15th. WOW)!

  75. Magic number is 7! National’s have lost to the Phillies. Thanks Philly for helping us out tonight.

  76. Nats lose. Wild card magic # is now 7

  77. The opposing pitcher isn’t Cy Young pep talk for the offense the night before a game.

Travis Wood 3.55 era, .736 ops against in the second half.
Walker 4-11 .871 ops vs Wood

    Pleasant thoughts

  78. RAISE IT , RAISE IT, RAISE IT. Caught the game on DVR and just got to the final out… what a tense game, little margin for victory…

GERRIT COLE is becoming an Ace, folks… he enjoys the big stage and what he did in the 7th was magical. Kudos to Clint for leaving Cole in to finish the inning (worked out, so we won’t hear a peep about it on the blog..if it didn’t work out, we would’ve heard about 10 scrolls worth of how bad a manager Clint is).

That said, not sure I like the ‘empty out the bench’ moves in the 8th and 9th the past few nights… kinda want Clint to go with the main guys at this point and not make so many moves… if the game gets tied up, we lose some key players …….

WATSON is as close to perfection as Melancon was in the 8th inning role…. oh, if Grilli can just get over the hump, we’d be totally set for the playoffs… Watson/Melancon/Grilli or Grilli/Watson/Melancon doesn’t really matter… then you can plug and play with the rest of the guys on matchups……

LETS GO BUCS… finish off a series win tomorrow, keep the Reds in the rear view and hope for Seattle help in St Louie!

  79. A win, sealed by a double play started by defensive wizard at shortstop…

    Jordy Mercer.

    Imagine that…

Oh, and Morneau does nothing again when it counts.
