  1. Brandie says:

Martin gets the day off. No Barmes. I like the line up. Let the quibbles commence!

  2. Jandy says:

    I just wanna know who’s pitching…Liriano or Burnett…lol
    Grocery shopping again…stop in in a bit…

  3. Wild Bill says:

    Please, God, no.

  4. Jim S. says:

Well, what do you know. Facing a lefty, and no Morneau in the lineup. I think maybe CH let that one run its course. I thought Liriano was today, and AJ next game. AJ just pitched on Wednesday.

  5. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Pick ‘Em Line
Total STRIKEOUTS THROWN by Francisco Liriano in today’s game
    4-7 (EVEN ODDS)
    8-11 (EVEN ODDS)
    12 or More (DOUBLE ODDS)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Wild Card Magic Number: 7

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

  6. Arriba Wilver says:

I think you might be jumping the gun on the reason for it, Jim. Lets see what happens. Sunday lineups always cause some controversy, going back to Leyland, at least.

  7. Brandie says:

100 trouble with quibbles on 8-11 please.

  8. JAL says:

    Liriano is pitching today

  9. Dadtackular says:

    100 on 8-11

  10. theplanisworking says:

AW, hope you had a great time Thursday night at the game.

  11. theplanisworking says:

I would like thank you, Jandy and Lad9 for the humor the other night.
I am now Tattoo, and that was hella funny!

Now that I am semi-back, I really appreciated that. :)

  12. Jim S. says:

  13. Brandie says:

    Channeling my best Tattoo:

    Boss! The Plan! The Plan!

Good to see you back. Good vibes to you and yours. Hippo Hugs!

  14. Jim S. says:

You may be right, AW. We’ll see.

  15. theplanisworking says:

thanks for looking after my Pond.
And for raising me up the flagpole too. :)

Thanks for making me feel welcome even though I was away.

  16. theplanisworking says:

Thanks Miss Breath of Fresh air !! :)

  17. theplanisworking says:

    Mr. Playoffs……..

thanks for having this, as I was out for a few.

I would like 50 Comeback hippos on 4-7 strikeouts, please.

  18. Arriba Wilver says:

Thanks, Plan. Welcome back, and I did.

  19. Thundercrack says:

Today is the first of 4 games for me – to end the season.
    What a great season.

    Enjoy the game!

  20. Arriba Wilver says:

I hope you have the lucky hat on.

  21. theplanisworking says:

I only got to watch the first 4 innings of the game last night, zero on Thursday and Fridays games……….

wish I could have seen the standing O given Thursday night………… but I was on small child duty during the “festivities” to honor my Uncle.

Such is the life of a huge softie when relatives are around.

  22. Thundercrack says:

Nope. I may kick it old school with the ’71 lid

( I am not even sure what I just said )

  23. Arriba Wilver says:

  24. Brandie says:

Dependable and down right wonderful. What you did went a long way, Plan.

  25. theplanisworking says:

I thought I read something about finger puppets?
    Or was I mistaken……..

  26. Brandie says:

I read and speak English and I am not sure what you just said.

  27. Arriba Wilver says:

At least stick the other one in your pocket. Aren’t you like a gazillion to one with it. Or

    Thundercrack lucky hat 85

    Hurdle 62

  28. Lad9 says:

Welcome semi back my friend. You were missed. Watch for the mines in the pond btw. That rhino was on the prowl.

  29. theplanisworking says:

  30. Bill Born says:

    100 on the 4 – 7 line ,Please.
    Thank You.

  31. Brandie says:

What does John Rienstra have yo do with this?

  32. Lad9 says:

I will go 100 Tyler Boyds on 8-11 k’s please. Thank you. Go Buccos!

  33. Brandie says:

The Pirates win the Central, I predict Plan-Demonium!

  34. theplanisworking says:

    True story……………
Rienstra and I freed about 30 cars and trucks during a blizzard in Dormont/Beechview in 1989. He picked up the end of a car, and I would push. Just amazing stuff he would do for people/neighbors……………..

  35. theplanisworking says:

    I hope so, Sunshine. :)

  36. casper in a-town says:

Happy Sunday to all — Below is a link to Travis Sawchick’s article in today’s Trib. It deals with the Pirates’ change in defensive philosophy, filled with great insight and stats. Definitely worth a read. Go Bucs!

  37. Brandie says:

I remember the old Cogo’s commercial with him and a little boy. Simply amazing story.

  38. Baywatch says:

Woo-Hoo! Let’s go get ‘em! I like this lineup! I’m predicting big games for The Sanchez Boys!

  39. Lad9 says:

Greetings from section 145 as I continue my personal tour of the North Shore. This will be my first time to see Liriano as I have been on the Jeff Locke rotation schedule. One more game left in the package on Tuesday vs the Padres. Pirates starter will be ……Jeff Locke. :) oh well. When I was a kid we used to see Bob Veale every game. Family tradition I guess.

  40. Brandie says:

It is an amazing piece. It really let’s you know how much goes into strategizing behind the scenes. Welcome and Happy Sunday to you as well. Hope all is great in A-Town!

  41. Brandie says:

    Professor Ladrigo Nueve,

Have a wonderful time. Go claim that W.

  42. Baywatch says:

Ruh-Roh! I just saw Wood is pitching for them. He’s ALWAYS tough! 9-11 with 3.05 on a bad team … pretty good.

  43. Lad9 says:

Always felt bad for him. The talent was there but that anxiety disorder got the best of him. Sounds like a great guy. Thanks Plan.

  44. Baywatch says:

Enjoy the game, Lad! I saw Bob Veale in Atlanta in 1966! I was a 12-year-old kid from Charlotte, first year of the Braves in Atlanta. Folks took the radio station sponsored bus trip down! I still got a couple Kodak Brownie photos from that gig!

  45. casper in a-town says:

Hi Brandie — Thanks and all is well in A-Town (Austintown, OH)!

  46. Brandie says:

He’s nothin’ but chum to the Shark Tank. Just another in a long line of nameless nobodies!

    My version of trash talk.

  47. Brandie says:

Will let Bizrow know when he comes back to add you to the list if that is okay. Long time lurker or had you posted before?

  48. Lad9 says:

Will do. The only question is will it be great time (win) or a very good time. Cause what could be better than a nice Sunday afternoon in the best ballpark in America watching my favorite team with 2/3 of my family? I am a very lucky guy. Go Buccos!

  49. theplanisworking says:

I was remiss for not thanking you for the kind words you gave me the past few days. I just got done reading what I missed.
    Again, thanks.

  50. theplanisworking says:

casper, did you happen to go to Fitch High School?

  51. Jandy says:

My dear Hipposter…it was my pleasure. And you’re always in our thoughts

  52. casper in a-town says:

I’m a daily lurker and very rare poster. I usually find after lurking that I really have nothing intelligent to add. Although I do come away with quite a few laughs! And some good reads from JAL’s links.

  53. Jandy says:

Mr. Playoffs, 100 Lucky Liriano units on the 4-7 line please!

  54. theplanisworking says:

    Now, lets get another win.

    And a sammich. ;)

  55. Jandy says:

Casper’s been seen once in a while. Brandie, thanks for catching his hometown,we’ll have ot make sure Biz knows. Casper thanks for posting your hometown. Jump in more often, friend :)

  56. casper in a-town says:

Hey Plan — No, although my wife (’91) and son did (’10). I live about 2 miles from Fitch. I’m actually from New Castle but work eventually landed me in Austintown, via New Castle, Slippery Rock, Akron, Cleveland and Philly.

  57. Jandy says:

    Brng home the win Laddie!

  58. casper in a-town says:

Hi Jandy! I was thinking about posting more when the playoffs start!

  59. Jandy says:

Ok gotta get hubs some lunch. Go Bucs!

  60. theplanisworking says:

Now THAT is a small world.

I am from New Castle also……….. know the tri-state area well. Graduated from the “old” NC High. Was just in town the past few days for a funeral.

Nice to meet a fellow Cane.

  61. JD says:

My wife is a ’90 grad from Fitch.

  62. casper in a-town says:

Yes it is! Sorry to hear your trip back was under circumstances. I went to the old Ne-Ca-Hi as well. Went to George Washington and was in the first 9th grade class to go to the high school. I graduated in ’86.

  63. JD says:

    Cheer hard dude.

  64. theplanisworking says:

  65. casper in a-town says:

Hey JD — Small world. I’d bet dollars to donuts that they probably know each other. She has 4 sibs who went to Fitch as well, although she is the baby.

  66. theplanisworking says:

I went to GW also, graduated in ’83.

    Born and raised in Mahoningtown.

  67. Brandie says:

    The blog. Bringing folks together!

  68. casper in a-town says:

Wow! I knew quite a few people from Motown. I used to go down to the fields to watch some of the great softball games played down there. Used to have some tough baseball games against the 7th ward as well.

  69. Brandie says:

Way to end the inning Frankie!

  70. theplanisworking says:

    Yeah, night games at Progressive.

Tough neighborhood to grow up in, but love it to this day. We wree the goofs who played tackle football on a grass/asphalt mix.

You do need to post more often. You can still lurk, but its more fun in here.

  71. Patrick(ri) says:

If only he could hit to Left field.

  72. Brandie says:

Tabby with the Trip-Trip-Triple! Wild Pitch. Us 1 Them 0

  73. theplanisworking says:

Tabata with a trip trip trip trip trip trip trip trip……. oops triple, and scores on a wild wild wild wild wild wild wild pitch!

    1-0 good guys.

  74. theplanisworking says:

    And Mercer with a double.
Nice start to the festivities. :)

  75. Brandie says:

Followed by Cutch with the single. My tablet recognizes Cutch and does not try to change it!

  76. theplanisworking says:

    Your tablet knows better.

  77. Brandie says:

I would like to see a T shirt with Cutch in that pose from #82 with Cutch Knows Victory on it.

  78. casper in a-town says:

Will do. And yes, Motown was full of some crazy guys. Although pretty good ones, for the most part. I’m sure we know a lot of the same people and could share some great memories. Given the years we graduated, we walked the halls at the same time and you actually graduated with my older sister.

  79. theplanisworking says:

Really? Who would that be? I havent seen many classmates in years.

  80. theplanisworking says:

Or Cutch wearing a t-shirt, with his arms extended…….. with “What Streak” underneath it.

  81. casper in a-town says:

To protect the innocent, I’ll refrain from publishing her first name. Last name is Moses.

  82. theplanisworking says:

Ah! Yes, do protect the innocent, and the guilty also! Really glad to hear from you. This made my day. Thank you for being in here.

Look forward to hearing from you more.

  83. tdb1977 says:

2013 Bucs – the year of personal milestones. Cutch with career home run 100. AJ with career strike out 2000. And today, Franky could get career strike out 1000. Only 6 to go for that milestone.

  84. theplanisworking says:

    Good Day, Reverend.
What list are we 2 going to get on today? ;)

  85. Brandie says:

    Even better idea…

    “Embrace the Suck”!

  86. Brandie says:

    Then let’s cheer hard!

  87. theplanisworking says:

    No Brandie……..

    “Defeat the Suck”

  88. I’ve been on a few, but managed to stay off the blog lists. TG.

  89. Brandie says:

    Dejan’s Most Wanted…

Or reasons to stop lurking and post!

  90. theplanisworking says:

At least we arent on the Final Word !! ;)

  91. Brandie says:

Or Buck the Suck! My meaning is they embraced the streak in order to defeat it. Everybody had their part to play during the streak, but, unlike the Lovable Losers, the guys we have now did not let the streak define them.

  92. tdb1977 says:

That was Gabby’s give Pirate movement for 2013! J/K :)

  93. tdb1977 says:

    Erm…okay. Gabby’s BIG moment

  94. Brandie says:

Way to take one for the team!

  95. tdb1977 says:

Okay lunatics – question time. Why does Pedro decide on some hits he can round the bases in a matter of seconds and then on slow ground balls, he basically jogs to the base. He could have made the play closer on that ground ball if he was hustling down the first base line. Espically with Wood searching for the base after receiving the ball if he was going full throttle down the line.

  96. theplanisworking says:

    TONY MONTANA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 good guys.

  97. theplanisworking says:

    Because Pedro is Pedro.

  98. tdb1977 says:

Is this like Manny is Manny? Then someone needs to light a fire under his butt when he makes contact with the ball. Run like its the last play of the season and the runner on third base is the winning run. Dont just take your time to get up there.

  99. theplanisworking says:

I wouldnt call it loafing, but there is some inconsistency there, eh?

  100. Baywatch says:

One of my Sanchez Boys!! Like the way he more DANCES than he does run!

  101. tdb1977 says:

A look at the scores that matter at the moment:

    Wash 4 Phil 2 – T5
    Cin 3 Mil 0 – T3
    Stl 1 Sea 0 – T3

So no help so far today.

  102. theplanisworking says:

Just wanted to put this in here…………….

Frankie Liriano is a great fielding pitcher.

    That is all.

  103. tdb1977 says:

    An update:

    Wash 5 Phil 2 – Middle of 6th
    Cin 4 Mil 0 – End of 4th
    Seat 1 STL 1 – Middle of 4th

  104. defil21 says:

    Frankie is dealing today.

  105. defil21 says:

Off topic Tenn is playing Houston tough maybe they aren’t as bad as everyone thinks, though after last week’s game maybe the Steelers aren’t as good as I thought they were going to be this year.

  106. 21sthebest says:

    Barmes makes that play. :-)

  107. Brandie says:

Pot stirrer! I bet Barmes would not have made the pitch to serve up the home run!

    Wait a minute!

    Ty Ballgame! Boo!

  108. defil21 says:

Come on Hurdle for the past month now you have been leaving your starters in 1 inning too long.

  109. MadTurk says:

What’s the Hurdle update now? :-)

Should have brought someone in for the seventh inning after Frankie showed signs of fatigue and had the high pitch count. Just saying.

  110. 21sthebest says:

I bet A.J. Would have positioned Mercer in the hole.

  111. defil21 says:

I told my friend the same thing. I like Barmes, not at 5.5 mil a year but I like him.

  112. irishjim says:

Bad luck there. Frank wouldn’t have even started the 7th without the no-no. He was gassed.

  113. 21sthebest says:

I like him defensively and have no issue with his contract.

  114. tdb1977 says:

Yeah – its Hurdle’s fault. He is the one that is out there pitching. He is listening to his pitcher and his pitcher said he could go one more inning. Its the same thing that happened in Boston in the playoffs a couple of years ago. Martinez said he could go one more inning – but ended up taking the lose because he stayed out to long.

  115. defil21 says:

I didn’t say its his fault but he’s watching the games he can see Frankie is laboring the last inning, so use your bullpen were in a pennant race every game counts. He is the manager so………

  116. defil21 says:

I think 5.5 is a little hit but I don’t mind Barmes at all. His glove makes up for his so-so bat, though he does come up with a lot of timely hits.

  117. defil21 says:

Semper Fi Marine. Welcome home Gunny. We chewed the same dirt.

  118. Brandie says:

    Possible help by the M’s.

  119. Brandie says:

My Uncle was Air Force. God Bless all of ours in uniform. Marines are indeed a special breed.

  120. Brandie says:

    Farnsie on the mound! Correctomundo!

  121. Brandie says:

    Nice catch Byrd Man!

  122. defil21 says:

    Were Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children!

  123. defil21 says:

  124. theplanisworking says:

Gee, I am sure am glad we almost didnt get Morneau.

  125. theplanisworking says:

    Good Guys !

  126. Brandie says:

    The way it should be!

  127. John Lease says:

Thank you Morneau, I guess you were waiting to make it a BIG RBI.

    Let’s get this nailed down.

  128. Adam Perry says:

Watching game on while flooding continues outside in Boulder and all over Colorado. If you want to help by making a donation, and getting a great t-shirt in return, please go here

and please share that link if you can

  129. Brandie says:

    The chosen ones!

  130. tdb1977 says:

Let’s go through another run down.

    Wash 11 Phil 2 – End of 7
    Cin 5 Mil 1 – Bot of 7
    Stl 8 Sea 2 – Bot of 5

Absolutely no help anywhere today. That run was HUGE to put the Bucs up by 1 run.

  131. Arriba Wilver says:

  132. Brandie says:

Thank you for the link. Prayers and vibes to all of those affected.

  133. theplanisworking says:

    What she said. ^^^^^^

  134. Brandie says:

  135. theplanisworking says:

    Raise that Jolly Hippo !!!!!

Pirates did what they are supposed to do….. took 3 of 4 from a bad club….. the Cubs!

  136. Patrick(ri) says:

Sweet! Sorry for Liriano, but the important thing happened.

  137. theplanisworking says:

    Hahahahahahaha! +1 Brandie!

  138. Brandie says:

    STREAK 0!

  139. Barb says:

Raise the Jolly Roger. (Better late than never). :)

  140. Barb says:

I didn’t have a chance to send my condolences your way Hippo. So glad you are back.

  141. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, Barb. :)

Love my hometown, but glad to be back.

  142. Barb says:

Well STL is up 9-2 over Seattle and Cincy up 5-2 over Brew Crew.

  143. Arriba Wilver says:

At least we knocked 1 off the magic number. ;-)

  144. The Gunner says:

Good thing the Bucs took care of the Cubbies today. AJ has to bring his A game tomorrow night & get the Bucs off on the right foot vs. the Padres.

  145. Ghost says:

I’ll post another Ron Jeremy photo at 95!

  146. theplanisworking says:

Careful, you might get on a list………….. ;)

  147. theplanisworking says:

    Please dont.
There are many others I am sure you could post……

  148. Ghost says:

  149. defil21 says:

Maybe some of the Lacy over Bell comments will come to an end since Lacy got a concussion today.

  150. 21sthebest says:

Have to hand it to the Nats for not mailing it in after it appeared Davey Johnson wasn’t coming back.

  151. Ghost says:

Speaking of Ron Jeremy… over the Cubs broadcast I could have sworn I heard DK holler from somewhere in the press box, “BoooOOOOO! That’s horrible!” It came right after a fan in the right field corner looked to have made a nice catch only to have the Cubs’ broadcaster’s out him on the slo-mo replay as missing the catch.

  152. Arriba Wilver says:

  153. Dave G says:

    Go Bucs!

Pens are on NHL Network at 6:PM (for the out-of-towners.) Also on ROOT Sports.

  154. Dave G says:

    Brewers 5, Reds 5… bottom 8th.

  155. Mercy.

I should never have posted that Chad and Jeremy song.

It got Ghostie all stirred up.

  156. Lad9 says:

Couldn’t wait to get home from the game to post this John do I made a stop……. MORRRRRRRRNNNNNNEEEAAAUUUUUU! But I see you already acknowledged him like the good fan you are! Great baseball game and the place was electric!

  157. Ghost says:

;) You just never know what it takes to flip a guy’s switch. In my case, it’s Chad and Jeremy. Ooooohhh baby!

  158. Arriba Wilver says:

Is it sacrilege to start liking the Brewers (at least until Braun gets back next year) ?

  159. Ghost says:

Right on, Lad! It’s “MORRRRRRRRNNNNNNEEEAAAUUUUUU in America!!”

  160. Ghost says:

Yeah, that would be sacrilege. (But a little sacrilege here and there never hurt nobody.)

  161. Ghost says:

I’ve missed what Barb and others have been referencing. No need to explain — just hope all is well.

    (C U back @ Da Pond! ;) )

  162. JohninOshkosh says:

Brewers win on walk off home run.

  163. Barb says:

  164. 21sthebest says:

  165. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Nice win by the Bucs, but the pressure could’ve been alleviated by not leaving a tub of runners on base early.
That issue remains their #1 question mark.
Two more weeks to get it done!

  166. Brandie says:

    Hydraulic Jacks!

  167. Brandie says:

It’s fun to play spoiler, but it’s so much better to be on the way to playing October baseball baby.

Thank you for sucking and killing your team’s season Ryan Braun!

  168. Lad 9 says:

We had Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Akroyd guarding the pond so you could not penetrate the perimeter, Ghost. :)

  169. Lad 9 says:

I bet the Gunny was a real beast in his prime. He still looks like one.

I think our local sports teams do an exceptional job of honoring our servicemen. Pitt really did a wonderful job yesterday too.

Defil21, thank you for protecting our country. There is no greater calling. I am humbled to share this blog with you and all of the other servicemen and women that come here.

  170. theplanisworking says:

How many runners are in a tub???

  171. Brandie says:

Depends on the sizes of the runners, the sizes of their egos, and the square footage of the tub.

  172. theplanisworking says:

If it a Hippo sized tub, that would hold a lot of runners. ;)

  173. Tom P. says:

Giants just beat the Dodgers 4-3. Pirates and Cardinals lead the Dodgers by a game in the standings for second place in the NL playoff standings.

  174. The Justice Avenger says:

A few cracks in the Dodgers the past week or so. Looking at the standings of some leading teams in their last 10 games:

    * Dodgers – 3-7
    * Braves – 4-6
    * Nationals – 8 -2

Nationals are the team to watch this week. On a roll.

I am always pretty optimistic, but it just makes me nervous that you see some teams on a bit of a slide…just hoping the Pirates don’t catch that bug.

That being said…It’s a pennant race…we have been waiting years for this.

  175. Brandie says:

+many. It has been a long time coming, brother Justice.

  176. The Justice Avenger says:

    Indeed, Brandie…loving this ride!

  177. John Lease says:

    What, everyone else missed this?

Zach Duke gave it up for the Reds v. the Brewers.

Good to see that Zach is still a Bucco at heart. Reds brought him up right before the deadline so he can be on their post season roster.

    Me likey!

  178. Tom P. says:

I did notice that. I was going to couple that observation with Ryan Vogelsang giving up a 3-run double to the Dodgers, but the Giants came back and won.

  179. Thundercrack says:

    Went to the game today.

I saw the Cubs twice this series. They have a few nice players but I still don’t see them doing much next season.

Anthony Rizzo forgetting how many outs there were late in the game. Inexcusable. That’s part of the reason they are in last place. And that is the type of stuff that happened to the Pirates.

But I must admit that I too lost track of the game. They flashed up on the scoreboard that Melancon and Grilli were warming up. When Melancon entered the game I turned to the guys next to me and said “Wow, Hurdle is bringing Melancon in in the 8th and I guess Grilli will pitch the 9th”. They quickly informed me that it was the top of the 9th.

A “tubba” is way too many!….

  181. Jim S. says:

Big win to keep pace with the Cards. Sure wish Seattle could have a do over for that awful finish Friday in St. Louis where they absolutely gave that game away. We could have a one game lead right now. But, all in all, tied for 1st place with an 87-62 record is not so bad.

Welcome to town, Padres. Be prepared for a beat down!
