  1. It’s full size piano time!

    \Stuart

  2. It’s Magic Number Reduction Night at PNC Park! Empty seats are not welcome.

  3. Buck is catching tonight. Did Sanchez catch when Cole pitched last time? If yes, and if the pattern continues, then Martin gets his multiple days off that someone suggested was warranted.

  4. The time is NOW!

    No more 000000000000000000000000000000′s!

    888888888888888888888888888888888888888!

  5. Step right up to complain about tonight’s lineup!!!

Buck? OMG the sky is falling

Barmes? Even worse, can’t catch a cold or hit the water falling out of a boat!

  6. Maz announced today he will auction the jersey off, along with the bat that he used to hit the Game 7 homer, and the cleats that rounded the bases to give the Pirates the world championship in 1960.

  7. OK loonies, gotta get some stuff done…catch yinz later, hopefully :)

  8. Is this the place for worthless TV ratings discussion?
Is this the place for worthless attendance discussion?
If it is, I am in the right Pirate blog. ;)

I have absolutely no problem resting Martin, he looks beat down.
Obviously the Mercer-Barmes debate continues, but meh.
    Need the “good” Charlie tonight.

Padres 30-10 all-time at PNC. That is not a typo.
We need to make it 30-12 the next 2 days.

  9. Winning solves EVERYTHING! Please win tonight Buck-OHs!

    - Barmes has put good wood on the ball lately. I didn’t watch much of the game last night but the game on Monday, he could have easily had 2 hits if the pitcher doesn’t knock the ball down with his glove AND/or if Pedro had been playing 3rd.

    - Feel good about Buck tonight. He might fail to throw anyone out at 2nd but I think he goes 2-4 tonight at the plate.

    • Yes, on Barmes being robbed of two hits last time and YES, had only it have been Pedro at third on the second one!

      • Both the Pirates and the Steelers and the other Pittsburgh teams need to follow the advice that Republican commentator/sports fan George Will gave to the Chicago Cubs a while back: Quit being resigned to finishing second best every year.

  10. I agree with Karen and her comments above: The time is indeed now! The winning streak starts tonight. Have faith…the magic number will be 5 at the end of the night!!!

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  11. Good Charlie, good Charlie, good Charlie, good Charlie. I thought maybe if I said it enough times it would happen. Big game. Not going to call it a must win because that gets thrown around to much but it sure would be a nice win and allow everyone to take a few deep breathes.

  12. WEDNESDAY PICK ‘EM!!!

******PLEASE READ WHAT IS WRITTEN BELOW******
PLEASE PLACE YOUR “WAGERS” AS REPLIES IN THIS COMMENT BOX
Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

NEW PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME & ENCOURAGED!!

    Tonight’s Pick ‘Em Line
What Will the Pirates Get in tonight’s game
    Win (EVEN ODDS)
    Loss (EVEN ODDS)

    Wild Card Magic Number: 6

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

KEEP CALM & MAKE THE PLAYOFFS

  13. Glad to see Martin get a night off.. he has looked sluggish at best lately. WIll have to stay far away from the TV to not get dizzy with how much Buck moves behind the plate when he catches the pitch….

Need lots of ground Chuck tonight…..

Time for an offensive breakout game, let’s call this one 6-1 good guys. Put it on the board…YES!

  14. Good Evening Mr. Rogers Neighborhood!

  15. What is it with the Bucs? Too often, they forget how to hit and when the pitching is bad,
they have no chance at all of winning. They can’t beat the weaker teams like the
Padres, Dolphins, etc. and Cincy is coming to town on Friday. They are red hot lately, and
truthfully, they are the team to beat. They are better than the Cardinals and will win the division, so where does that leave our hitless wonders? The fans clamored for some
hitting help until it was provided, but apparently it isn’t enough to help the situation. The
hitting help quit hitting too. It doesn’t look very good for the Pirates right now.

    • What??? Dolphins??? Cincy hot? They are 4-4 in their last 8 against the Brewers, Cubs and Astros. The Pirates just swept the Rangers and won 3 out 4 against the Cubs. The Padres have been playing good ball of late. None of this makes sense except for the bats going cold.

    • Attaboy, Chuck! That’s the ol’ Pittsburgh spirit. Keep your eyes on the prize.

    • Have Chuck and Hasis ever posted in the same thread? :)

  16. I have never heard of this pitcher for the Padres. Obviously he has a bad record, does anyone know anything about him?

    • Gave up four runs in six inning against the Pirates a month ago.

Hard thrower. Fastball/curveball mix. Reliever on a good team.

    • I liked Ross when he was with the A’s. I thought he had a lot of potential. That hasn’t exactly panned out for him.

He throws from an upright delivery, tall dude.

I honestly don’t see him throwing 6 innings. The Pirates should be able to hit him pretty well.

  17. I watched a bit of the White Sox/Twins today.

All I have to say is:

    “Lots of empty seats. Lots!”

  18. Come on Buccos, please, please, please, please, please win. And if it’s not to much to ask, can we please kick some Padre a**.

  19. Buck with Charlie? I hope he catches better then he has.

Barmes over Mercer? Well Mercer will be at short next year and hopefully if Barmes stays he will be the back up and not split so many games with Mercer.
Barmes does not bother me so much this time of year. He seems to take 3/4 of the season to get the bat going.

    • I think his defense behind CM is more important than his bat. His offense is bonus and defense saves more runs that he can produce offensively.

      • Not to argue, I don’t see much difference in the defense really. My post was that while he is getting into the game over Mercer I believe his bat will play more for us this time of year.

  20. Grant Balfour just gave up a two run dinger to Josh Hamilton as the Angels tie the A’s in the ninth.

I really like watching the A’s. They play in the worst stadium, bar none, in sports and just win. It’s the last baseball field where you see the yard lines for the football team that shares the stadium.

Very fun team to watch. I often watch them on the package for late night viewing. I like how they are the Bay area’s red headed stepchild and just keep winning without any of the benefits enjoyed by the team across the bay.

    • I watch them as much as possible as well. Course, I get them locally.

Talk about empty seats. In fact, their owner was just talking about that this morning as well.

But he’s an entirely different story.

      • I lived in Oakland for a brief time during La Russa’s tenure. Place used to get a fair share of fans. That was right before all the new retro stadiums were built and people didn’t really care about the stadiums.

People in SF and Berkeley used to call it Dopeland. Always cracked me up.

I read Jane Lee and Susan Slusser a lot. Two very talented beat writers.

  21. The Browns have traded Trent Richardson to the Colts for Indy’s 1st round pick next year.

    • The Browns are planning on signing Willis McGahee to take his place. I’m not making any of this up.

    • Look, the Browns can stockpile all the picks they want. But giving Mike Lombardi a bevy of primo draft picks is like bankrolling Phil Robertson’s trip to Nordstrom’s.

      • The Stains are who we thought they are! I miss Denny Green.

        • I will say this I wish Colbert was better at doing stuff like this. He should have traded Wallet last year, we knew he wasn’t going to resign so we should of got something for him.

          • Right or wrong they thought they had a chance to win last year and they were in the window of Big Ben’s prime years and that window is closing fast. It hard to trade one of your key offensive players when you believe you are a contender.

  22. Beat Em Bucs

    Go like 60

    We can still do this

  23. The loud thump you just heard was the collective jaws of every Browns fan dropping. It could be heard from 150 miles away. Those Browns draft picks should contribute in about 4 years which is just about the time when Weadon will be ready to retire.

    • Do they have a Front Office, or a Back Door leading that team?

I make fun of the Browns every single day, but I cant even fathom this.
What is the reason for this trade?
What will they do at RB now? McGahee? Really?

      Just wow.

      • I think they are gathering 1st rounders to draft the heir apparent to Brady Quinn. Or Braylon Edwards. Or Kellen Winslow Jr. Or Tim Couch. OK I’ll stop…

Cleveland fans just have to be done with that team. This after they announce Bryan Hoyer will start this weekend…

  24. On August 8th the Pirates were 16 games ahead of Washington.

  25. Ok nice smooth beginning for Charlie. Boy it would sure be nice to see a game where the Bucs break out with a few early runs and play with a lead.

      • Cleveland spelled backwards is DNA LEVEL C.

        How’s that?

        • You’re bringing the cornbread and butter to my fried chicken picnic! Keep it up!

          • I’ll bring the sweet tea, and the one liners.

            • Love sweet tea.

              Cleveland, not so much.

            • Hey Motown Plan! I was in downtown Cleveland today on business. Was up on the 36th floor of a building with a view of the entire city (building was on St. Clair by Lakeside Ave.). While the lake is an awe-inspiring sight, the rest of the city is depressing. Drab, if I may so so. No offense to Clevelanders, but the city itself leaves a lot to be desired. To state the obvious, it’s no Pittsburgh.

              • Howdy Caspar, good to see you here this evening :)

              • Thanks, Jandy! For the first time ever, I’ve got the game on with my laptop, well, on my lap. And I’m lurking as usual!

              • Cleveland spent 500 million dollars to spruce up the place, and still looks bad.

At least the river hasnt caught on fire since ’70.

              • And, Casper, you have my sympathies being in Cleveland at any time…………..

              • I’m with you, Plan. I lived and worked in Cleveland back in the early to mid 1990′s. At that time, it wasn’t so bad. It was the city’s last “renaissance,” when Jacobs Field and the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame were going up and the Flats were still jumping. I also had the distinct pleasure of being there when Art Modell loaded up the Mayflower truck and hauled the Browns to Baltimore. Within a week, my friends of NC and Pittsburgh were faxing over applications for the Browns’ fans in my office to become Steelers’ fans. Hilarious at first, but when I learned that they wanted to hang me like a pinata, not so much.

              • it’s ok to lurk friend, just say something now and then :)

              • I’m sticking my toes in the water, Jandy!

              • Be careful sticking your toes in the water.
Jandy bites, be she swears she has had all her shots………………….

                ;)

              • It’s hard to worry about a nun, Plan. I’m more worried about the hippos. Especially ones from Motown.

              • Rather lurk than lurch!

              • HA!

                Nothing to worry about here.

              • I told Yinz, I don’t bite, I kick ;)

              • Something about those size 9 wides that makes me a bit leery, then. I’m sure they pack a helluva kick.

              • Good evening Crüe. Lets get some runs here. We are making every pitcher look like Bob Gibson in his prime.
Casper I have to go to Cleveland 2-3 times a month for business. And I have to tell you that are missing the best view. Go downtown and get on I-71 south. Then look in your rear view mirror. Best view of Cleveland ever. :)

              • caspar, my kicks must be earned…it’s not easy to do ;)

                Lad, you speak wisdom !!!

              • Laddy, welcome.

There is one great view in Cleveland………… the sign that says “Pittsburgh 180 miles”. :)

              • Or the sign when I was heading to Cleveland that said Cleveland LEFT. So I turned around and went home.

              • Lad & Plan — you are both spot on! You have no idea what was like being a western PA kid living in Browns’ country. My only saving grace was being transferred out of the Cleveland office to Philly. While Philly isn’t the ‘burgh, it’s still PA. Sadly enough, I’ve ended up in Austintown, OH, but at least there is a fair number of Pittsburgh fans and I’m only about an hour and 10 away from the stadiums and Consol.

              • There are many reasons that city is called “The Mistake by the Lake”

                :D

  26. Blass on radio says he will eat a small Milkbone dog biscuit for every run the Pirates score tonight. Here’s to a stomach ache!

  27. Nice…3 up and 3 down :)

  28. We have the “Good” Charlie so far.
    Now for a run!

  29. And yet another Padre pitcher facing the minimum batters through a 1/3 of the game. Can somebody please barrel up the ball and drive it somewhere?

I can only hope they are getting this funk out now and are able to break out of it as the games become increasingly more important.

  30. are you kidding me/???

  31. They simply cannot afford to fall behind. Even by one.

  32. Can’t walk people 1 out and nobody on.

  33. Why didnt Pedro throw home there?

  34. Pathetic.

  35. Tyson Ross………… the latest pitcher to win the Cy Young against the Pirates.

  36. Same old, same old. No bats. No nothing.

  37. I predict that if they lose this game it will be Clint’s fault for not pulling Charlie sooner.

    ;-)

  38. I can’t believe how bad this fielding is…simply…horrid.

  39. So Charlie helps himself out :)

  40. A Browns discussion during a Pirate game. I think that says it all.

  41. Maybe it’ll rain tomorrow and SD can get the H out of here.

  42. Justin Morneau has 1 RBI. Cutch must never be on base.

  43. I’ve seen enough. Lets see what Harrison, Jones, T. Sanchez, Tabata, Pie, Lambo, Mercer can do against this team.

  44. Anemic.

    • I havent had the time to check AJ’s Twitter feed tonight. Is he still pre-occupied with attendance? I am pre-occupied with this horrid O.

      Not to be critical…………….

  45. Man this is aggravating to watch….again. All the right-handers are trying to pull the curveball rather than taking it to the opposite field. Sigh…

  46. I think it is time to add fastballs, chage-ups, sliders and probably Ephesus pitches to the list of what the Prates can’t hit.

  47. Lost in all this offensive ineptitude once again is an excellent pitching performance being delivered by Charlie.

  48. Reds get 2 in the top of the 1st at Houston.

  49. Why is nobody calling for Jay Bell to be fired? I know you don’t make a change at this point in the season, but this has been going on all season.

  50. On the plus side, all of our hitters appear to have “slow heart beats” this month.

  51. Buck seems to swing like he means it.

  52. I love Bob Walk’s analysis – we are going to need a little luck tonight, we are hitting the ball well but right at some people.

Seriously? Is the booth really that far from the playing field that he can not see what is transpiring?

  53. Too much credit to San Diego pitchers.

Bucs’ offense is just offensive these past few games.

  54. Wretched.

  55. The Padres could probably put Ronny Cedeno on the mound and it would not make a difference.

Through six Ross has faced the minimum batters, wake me from this bad dream.

    • I think it was Walk that just said, “Ross is having his best performance of his major league career.” Go figure.

    • For this to happen twice in 3 nights against this team is no accident. I feel bad everyone who bought playoff tickets today. Best case scenario we lose 2-0 on October 1 in the WC game.

  56. LAAAAAAADDDDDD NIIIIIIIIINNNNNEEE!

  57. This will be 28 of 38 for the Nats.

  58. Hey, Reds and Nats are winning. No problem, though. It’s all in the bag.

  59. Not only can’t Pedro hit, he forgot a runner was right in front of him on his bouncer to Neil at second base. He may hit 32 home runs but he kills this team offensively and his defense is bad!!!!
Not all his fault though, these guys cannot hit–Walker is pathetic. That pitcher last night for the Padres was a complete joke–fast ball of 86. San Diego’s Cy Young, tonight, is not much better.

  60. I blame the Harvest Moon.

  61. Where is the offense? This is too much like slogging through a vat full of chocolate pudding!

  62. Blass just ate a dog biscuit in the radio booth to start the scoring. Desperation time.

  63. This is like a bad dream…this is unbelievable…

  64. Cashner, Stults & Ross = Maddux, Glavine & Smoltz.

  65. When I was a high schooler in the early ’70s, we were familiar with the expression “that sucks,” but it wasn’t used nearly as much as it is today. However, if something was REALLY MESSED up, we’d say it “sucks out loud.”

    THIS sucks out loud.

  66. Good thing Morneau was in the lineup, or they would be no hit so far.

Barmes defenders, come out. This putrid lineup isn’t hitting, so by all means run that jabroni out there.

  67. Cripes somebody cork a bat, take some PED’s, hit the dang ball. Just BUNT for a run and hope for a couple walks!

  68. This is embarrassing…

  69. Finally, a payoff for waving at pitches in the dirt!

  70. AJ Burnett just tweeted me. Wants to know why I’m not at the game tonight

  71. Rally! Making the strike out work for us!

  72. That what MVP’s do.

  73. Bye, baby, Bye!!!

  74. CUTCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 good guys!!!

  75. THAT is what an MVP does!!!!”!”"”

  76. That’s what I’m talkin’ about. Cutch steps up!

  77. M-V-P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  78. Cutch said enough of this crap!!!

  79. Now I am worried…will Clint know when to pull Charlie?!

  80. This is why we watch, folks.

  81. Hopefully this will open the floodgates…

  82. Lets go Byrdman!

  83. Just saying to my wife, an MVP hammers the ball into the stands to take the lead when everyone else is faltering around you.

  84. What the hell are they doing???

  85. CUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  86. Jeebus Pie….

  87. Horrible umps, yet again.

  88. Where’s Welke?

  89. Ridiculous. Next year he’s safe.

  90. That wasn’t even close! Did I hear that the umpires name is Dreck-man? It fits if so.

  91. Umpires are really bad. Hope replay comes in for everything . It isn’t just against the Pirates–every night there are horrible misses by these guys

  92. The call on Pie’s steal attempt sucked out loud!

  93. Agree umps are awful these days, but games are agonizingly long now. Just imagine if every dubious call is appealed?

  94. Must admit, Welke is calling a pretty good game behind the plate tonight.

  95. Cutch changes the dynamic. Braves now winning on Upton HR.

  96. Good evening all. At least we have a better game this evening.

  97. Braves up 3-2 on Nats maybe Fredi getting tossed got Atlanta going

  98. Charlie is smokin!!!

  99. Anyone upset at hurdle for taking out Morneau? And not because pie got “CS” but because the guy with 2 of the 3 hits is outta the game.

  100. STFD Rony Ronny Ronnie Ronney

  101. Wow! Ump loved ringing up Cedeno almost as me.

  102. Charlie. Enough said. Changes the dynamic, no? Who starts the one and one wild card game (assuming that’s what it comes down to)?

  103. What an effort turned in by Morton!

    Rockies 2 Cards 0

  104. Charlie is pitching like an Ace tonight…

  105. Glass ate a dog biscuit in the home half of last inning to spark the rally! It’s called The Rally Biscuit!

By the way…Cedeno is an A$$!

  106. A pinch-hitting appearance for Lambo, and an insurance run! I’m feeling it!

  107. What a great 10 minutes of baseball. 3 games all turned in the Pirates favor.

  108. Pedro didn’t get the rally memo

  109. Walk on Cutch HR: “Put that in your MVP pipe and smoke it!”

  110. Biz, if you are here………….

  112. Shot of Pedro talking with Byrd. Hopefully the vet is giving Pedro some good advice about hitting

  113. OK bring on the chum for the Shark!

  114. OK Great White Shark…shut ‘em down!!

  115. Really, really tired of that guy.

  116. It’s still unbelieveable that this team has only scored 4 runs in three games…

  117. Time to end this! Squeeze your (Complete The ) Rally Hippos!

  118. Ok…two more…come on Shark…

  119. Cards and Rox tied at 2 now…

  120. Wooo hooo…come on Shark…

  121. C’mon Melancon!!!

  122. Wow.. Jedi mind trick putting a pitcher as pinch runner???

  123. It’s like the family photo in Back to the Future fading away and then coming back.

  124. Melancon has been playing with fire the past few saves. Finally bit him.

  125. CRAP !

  126. Having fun yet ?

  127. Really don’t like that SD pitcher either.

  128. No way, cashners going to beat us twice in this series?? :(

  129. A pinch running pitcher ties it up against us

  130. What an infuriating game baseball is.

  131. Squeezing My Rally Hippo!

  132. I just have no words for this.

  133. This team just does not want to win…

  134. All you can do is laugh. This team is toast. Toast. Toast.

  135. It ain’t easy being green

It ain’t easy being in a pennant race

Time for a walk off and some magic

  136. Pinch hitters that actually hit! Fire Jay Bell!

  137. who’s getting fired tonight?

  138. I think some dogs are choking on those biscuits.

  139. A clinic on taking the outer half pitches to right the last few days. Hope our hitters are taking notes.

    OK, we’ll need a rally.

  140. Are there any outfielders that can throw a runner out at home anymore??

  141. It’s baseball. It should not be this infuriating! Jurko is a Jag off!

  142. Just don’t want to beat san dog do they? Game set match as they go up 3-2. How about pitch inside or play your defense for them hitting to right all day.

  143. Un-freaking-believeable…I really feel for Morton and Cutch

  144. Nice pitch selection. 4 right handed batters get hits the same way.

  145. Hey AJ, that’s why nobody is going to the games.

  146. That sound you heard was STL tied up at 2 and US losing 3-2, Cincy up 3-2.

  147. The Pirates have 3 hits. The guy with 2 of them is no longer in the lineup. Gee, I wonder how this game will end.

  148. Buck has yet to catch in a game the Buccos have won since coming over…

    • Not a fan.

One thing Martin does very well is set a low target. Buck is higher.

    • Morton gave up 2 hits in 8 innings. Hardly the issue at least tonight.

      • Speaking generally as I watched just a couple innings tonight.

I did think Buck was setting high for Melancon’s cutter though. That said, as I posted above, they had our pitchers (and our hitters) well scouted and they knew to take Melancon to the right side. Got to give SD credit there.

  149. If we can just get Cutch up again…

  150. Why, why, why do they use Garrett Jones???

  151. Marte is no good for a HR here…even before the injury, he had slowed down with the long ball…

  152. Wow…THEIR closer can actually get it done tonight…

  153. Good luck to the Padres in the playoffs.. oh that’s right they are 71-80. Quality squad. Way to go Pirates.

  154. Sooooo glad that San Diego is not in our division. It would suck to lose to them 15 times a year.

  155. SORRY!!!! THAT IS ALL IT IS! SOON TO BE 2 GAMES BACK ONCE STL HITS AGAIN.

  156. Atlanta is beating Washington and Reds have 1 run lead over Astros in 4th but Stros have bases loaded.

  157. This game’s on Clint for putting Melancon in.

(Just trying to get to the front of the line)

  158. This team is slowly choking the playoffs away…

  159. Cant even describe this.
3 straight games, 3 straight bum pitchers, 3 straight losses.

San Diego now 31-10 at PNC Park.
    Simply inexcusable.

  160. Jandy, Brandie, Milo, AW…….. and any I missed, good night.

Time to resume sniffing glue. ;)

  161. Still don’t think the Nats will catch the Bucs, but it’s a shame the Bucs won’t get a home playoff game after a great season (well most of it was great).

  162. Time, or lack of it, is on the Bucs side. The Reds may catch the Pirates and force the Bucs to play a road WC game. But the Nats are running out of time. There is NO WAY the Nats will catch the Bucs, especially if the Nats lose tonight and fail to take advantage of the Pirates loss. Sorry, its just not going to happen.

  163. You gotta get 3 outs before they get 1 run. Pretty simple. It’s your only job. What happened before is totally irrelevant.

  164. Why did our stupid manager take Morton out? He had allowed 2 hits in 8 innings. He should have finished the game. This is an example of what you get when you don’t
score runs. This team sucks and it’s a good thing they’re not going to the play-offs. They
would only play one game anyhow with no hitters in the lineup. I’m guessing Hurdle has
indirectly lost 10 or 15 games for the Bucs this season by dumb decisions.

    • Chuck H, I would like to introduce you to someone.

Chuck H, meet Bob Hasis. Bob Hasis, meet Chuck H.

    • There’s no sense in talking like that. This is the way games are played in MLB now. You have a 1 run lead in the 9th and as long as the starter isn’t throwing a no-hitter– in goes the closer.

Hurdle’s managed like that all year. If the situation is the same tomorrow he’ll do the same thing. Guaranteed.

If you fire Hurdle and bring in someone else, he’ll do the exact same thing in the same situation. They all do.

  165. 3 and 4 on this final homestand with 4 more to go. Hope the daytime atmosphere tomorrow helps the bats wake the heck up.

  166. Put this on the Pirates. They left it in the hands an umpire who made a horrible call and the team wasted a quality performance by Morton. BBB I hope this loss goes down hard and the Bucs better come out swinging tomorrow.

  167. It would be nice to think that someone in that clubhouse stands up and reminds these guys that they still have 10 games left and NOTHING has been clinched yet…maybe even light a fire under some asses…

  168. This is on Hurdle. Melanin hasn’t had a freakin clean inning in his last 6-7 appearances. Ok he gives up the tying run. Now get him out of the freak in game you idiot Hurdle. No wonder you have a losing record as manager. What a dope

  169. When do we okay the Padres next year ? I hope we’re done with them by August 1

  170. Is it too late to trade for a bat!

  171. Folks get your crap together

    Its not over

    Not by a long shot

Act like you’ve been here before

    Ok, some haven’t…..

    Beat Em Bucs

No one says it will be easy

    I choose the light

    • Beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will. I

I choose too the light. Thank you Biz. Go Buccos!

  172. 3 blown saves in 19 opportunities is a lot.

DK: A little misleading, Milo. Remember that mid-inning blown leads are recorded as blown saves just the same as a true save situation in a final inning. Weird but true.

  173. D.J. What’s your point? Makes no sense yet.

    • I was worried about that.

Breathe deep and let’s see how this all plays out. We all want them to win.

And you can use the Reply button on occasion too (like above).

  174. I wouldn’t give up on Melancon quite yet, but Hurdle has to change his philosophy and be willing to give pitchers a quick hook when they get into trouble. Watson wouldn’t be a bad option if they do need to move on from Melancon.

The Pirates are a Pedro breakout from comfortably waltzing into the playoffs. He’s more important offensively than Cutch and that’s shown in the record recently, even though Cutch has been on fire.

  175. Well, let’s hope Kimbrel gets the job done in the bottom of the 9th to derail the Nats. Braves up 5-2.

  176. The Curse of Brian Giles strikes again.

  177. Watching the Pirates offense should be classified as a form of torture. They need to add a real impact bat in the offseason.

  178. Watching Braves- Nats bottom of the 9th. Can I absorb two blown saves in one night? At least LaRoche won’t bat and get a troll ex-Pirate HR. I think.

  179. Two outs, nobody on.

  180. Nats lose. Magic number 5

  181. Three outs. Ballgame. Braves 5 Nats 2. Magic Number 5.

  182. Helton Ks with bases juiced, Cards win 4-3.

  183. Teds tied 4-4 in bottom of 9th, Astros have two guys on, Teds bring in Z. Duke.

  184. The Pirates, The Steelers, the Penguins, and indeed all the Pittsburgh sports teams should take the following advice from Republican commentator/sports fan George Will that he gave to the Chicago Cubs a while back: Quit being resigned to finishing second best every year!

  185. All eyes forward to the Reds.

    …and BEWARE of BILLY HAMILTON!
