  1. Stuart says:

    It’s full size piano time!

  2. Reading says:

It’s Magic Number Reduction Night at PNC Park! Empty seats are not welcome.

  3. Tom P. says:

Buck is catching tonight. Did Sanchez catch when Cole pitched last time? If yes, and if the pattern continues, then Martin gets his multiple days off that someone suggested was warranted.

  4. Karen22 says:

    The time is NOW!

    No more 000000000000000000000000000000’s!

  5. Arriba Wilver says:

Buck and Charlie? That worries me.

  6. NMR says:

John Candy inspires more confidence behind the plate.

  7. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Step right up to complain about tonight’s lineup!!!

Buck? OMG the sky is falling

Barmes? Even worse, can’t catch a cold or hit the water falling out of a boat!

  8. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

But he has a cool hockey mask.

Maybe that’s his tribute to Mario…

    or maybe MAF?

  9. 21sthebest says:

Yeah but I’m not sure Monty’s pitches dive quite like Charlie’s.

  10. JRay3 says:

That stood out a bit for me as well. Can’t say I am a fan of this combination but if Buck goes off at the plate tonight I reserve my right to change said initial feeling.

  11. 21sthebest says:

Maz announced today he will auction the jersey off, along with the bat that he used to hit the Game 7 homer, and the cleats that rounded the bases to give the Pirates the world championship in 1960.

  12. 21sthebest says:

Hopefully I’ll hit the $400M Powerball tonight, but those items, and give them back to him.

  13. NMR says:

Open yer eyez. Truth iz Herdel ran Sedaino ahtta tahn befour he wuz given a chance.

  14. 21sthebest says:

I usually go with, “Can’t catch a cold in a daycare.”

  15. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Martin looks drained, needs a nap.

Buck hasn’t been used lately, so it’s the obvious choice. Not a great choice, but obvious.

The dude can mash, if he hits the ball.

I haven’t looked up his history, but I always thought he was a decent defensive catcher. Maybe he’s worked with CM on the side.

  16. theplanisworking says:

  17. Milo Hamilton says:

The backstop just got a lawyer.

  18. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

So you didn’t like my Yinzer reference this morning? (last night for me)

  19. Jandy says:

OK loonies, gotta get some stuff done…catch yinz later, hopefully :)

  20. Stuart says:

That would be 88 keys for the uninitiated.

  21. theplanisworking says:

Is this the place for worthless TV ratings discussion?
Is this the place for worthless attendance discussion?
If it is, I am in the right Pirate blog. ;)

I have absolutely no problem resting Martin, he looks beat down.
Obviously the Mercer-Barmes debate continues, but meh.
    Need the “good” Charlie tonight.

Padres 30-10 all-time at PNC. That is not a typo.
We need to make it 30-12 the next 2 days.

  22. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    I like dat one

  23. toochca says:

Martin caught Cole on Saturday for the 2-1 victory over the Cubs

  24. defil21 says:

    +++ JUST WIN BABY.

  25. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Barmes behind Charlie makes sense.

But do we have ta talk abaaat the attendance ting again?

  26. Karen22 says:

There you go again! Stepping over the line!!

  27. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    The Raaaaaaaaaiiiddddeeeeerrrrsss

  28. Arriba Wilver says:

  29. Kevin says:

Winning solves EVERYTHING! Please win tonight Buck-OHs!

    – Barmes has put good wood on the ball lately. I didn’t watch much of the game last night but the game on Monday, he could have easily had 2 hits if the pitcher doesn’t knock the ball down with his glove AND/or if Pedro had been playing 3rd.

    – Feel good about Buck tonight. He might fail to throw anyone out at 2nd but I think he goes 2-4 tonight at the plate.

  30. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Which of course would be Flaawwer

  31. theplanisworking says:

Only if yinz bye me a Primanti’s and a beer…………..

  32. 21sthebest says:

buy those items. No interest in butting them.

  33. theplanisworking says:

Yes, Chahlie is a groundball pitcher.

    Now, where’s my sammich? ;)

  34. theplanisworking says:

  35. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  36. Dom says:

It might just me (and it probably is) but I wouldn’t want to win that much money. I’d love to win 1 or 2 million but if you win that much dough, you’ll make national headlines and you’ll have people banging on your door in the middle of the night asking for money.

  37. The Justice Avenger says:

I agree with Karen and her comments above: The time is indeed now! The winning streak starts tonight. Have faith…the magic number will be 5 at the end of the night!!!

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  38. Kevin says:

ha, unless you are Brandon Phillips.

  39. Arriba Wilver says:

Here’s a suggestion: Mr. Nutting should buy them.

  40. Dom says:

Is he auctioning them off for charity or something? He isn’t broke is he?

  41. Nate83 says:

Good Charlie, good Charlie, good Charlie, good Charlie. I thought maybe if I said it enough times it would happen. Big game. Not going to call it a must win because that gets thrown around to much but it sure would be a nice win and allow everyone to take a few deep breathes.

  42. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Tonight’s Pick ‘Em Line
What Will the Pirates Get in tonight’s game
    Win (EVEN ODDS)
    Loss (EVEN ODDS)

    Wild Card Magic Number: 6

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

  43. Nate83 says:

Hopefully with the Braves help it will be 4 games after tonight.

  44. Nate83 says:

    100 on the win.

  45. 21sthebest says:

I don’t know what his reason is Dom. Seems to be a trend though over the past couple of years to auction off memorabilia. I’ve seen former athletes do this for their grandchildren’s education.

  46. TCB says:

    WINNER for 100. Thanks.

  47. Arriba Wilver says:

100 Standing Room Only tickets on the WIN, kind sir.

  48. cmat0829 says:

100 on raising the jolly roger.

  49. The Gunner says:

    100 on the win!!!

Tonight is the night for the big, bad Buccos to get the swagger back!!!!

  50. Kevin says:

PLEASE WIN. I bet 100 flying byrd homeruns on the win.

  51. cmat0829 says:

Glad to see Martin get a night off.. he has looked sluggish at best lately. WIll have to stay far away from the TV to not get dizzy with how much Buck moves behind the plate when he catches the pitch….

Need lots of ground Chuck tonight…..

Time for an offensive breakout game, let’s call this one 6-1 good guys. Put it on the board…YES!

  52. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I think I would buy a new door.

  53. Dom says:

    100 ON WIN!!!

  54. Bill Born says:

    We win tonight.
100 on the win Line Please
Thank You. free game tonight for we who live in another world.

  55. NMR says:

Only decent lefties are Venable and Headley, right?

    Chuck’s got this one.

  56. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    winner, winner chicken dinner.

    100 on the W please.

  57. Ghost says:

Yes, on Barmes being robbed of two hits last time and YES, had only it have been Pedro at third on the second one!

  58. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Headley’s a switch hitter, so he’ll be from the left side.

He’s not half as good as he was last year, watch aught for that 2B that can’t be pronawnced.

I like that Venable kid. A lot.

And of course the always deadly Ronny freakin’ Cedenyo

  59. blazer says:

I’ll follow the crowd and take 100 on the win please kind Sir!

  60. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

And Alonso. The Padres L/H twin of Gaby Sanchez.

  61. Nate83 says:

You had me until you quoted Hawk Harrelson. Not a big fan of his.

  62. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  63. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Would be one thing if this were a White Sox blog……..

  64. Ghost says:

Gorko’s playing the best out of all of them.

  65. Dom says:

I did just read that a portion of the proceeds will go to Pirate Charities. I bet they go for 35K combined.

  66. Ghost says:

  67. NMR says:

  68. NMR says:

I don’t think Alonso is playing right now.

I’ll take Charlie against a lineup with only two lefties. Especially ones not name Votto or Carpenter.

  69. Brandie says:

    Appropriate sentiment!

  70. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  71. Brandie says:

    Dear Mr. Window,

May I have 100 on the win line please?

  72. Brandie says:

    Good Evening Mr. Rogers Neighborhood!

  73. Brandie says:

    Good evening Mr. Born Leader!

  74. Lad 9 says:

100 on the win please. Thank you. Go Buccos!

  75. Chuck H says:

What is it with the Bucs? Too often, they forget how to hit and when the pitching is bad,
they have no chance at all of winning. They can’t beat the weaker teams like the
Padres, Dolphins, etc. and Cincy is coming to town on Friday. They are red hot lately, and
truthfully, they are the team to beat. They are better than the Cardinals and will win the division, so where does that leave our hitless wonders? The fans clamored for some
hitting help until it was provided, but apparently it isn’t enough to help the situation. The
hitting help quit hitting too. It doesn’t look very good for the Pirates right now.

  76. Kevin says:

or better… a secret underground volcano lair.

  77. Kevin says:

with the house as a decoy of course.

  78. JohninOshkosh says:

This is a standing offer when I play these big jackpots. If I win, there will be a blog gathering/party this weekend in Pittsburgh. My treat.

  79. Karen22 says:

    100 – WIN

    It’s GOTTA happen!

  80. Brandie says:

I would definitely take you up on that, Mr. Wisconsin!

  81. Stuart says:

Playoffs, please give me 100 on the win tonight.

  82. radio wave says:

I understand there is a highway somewhere in Wisconsin called the miracle mile. I understand it is called the speaker because there have been a number of big winners go to purchase tickets along that highway. Do you know where it is?

  83. Nate83 says:

What??? Dolphins??? Cincy hot? They are 4-4 in their last 8 against the Brewers, Cubs and Astros. The Pirates just swept the Rangers and won 3 out 4 against the Cubs. The Padres have been playing good ball of late. None of this makes sense except for the bats going cold.

  84. War Horse says:

    100 on the WIN, please.

  85. Baywatch says:

  86. War Horse says:

Attaboy, Chuck! That’s the ol’ Pittsburgh spirit. Keep your eyes on the prize.

  87. radio wave says:

I have never heard of this pitcher for the Padres. Obviously he has a bad record, does anyone know anything about him?

  88. Brandie says:

As in Branjela? I like it!

  89. Brandie says:

Hope things are well with you.

  90. NMR says:

Gave up four runs in six inning against the Pirates a month ago.

Hard thrower. Fastball/curveball mix. Reliever on a good team.

  91. kr70 says:

100 on the win and Thanks

  92. NMR says:

Have Chuck and Hasis ever posted in the same thread? :)

  93. JohninOshkosh says:

    Fond du Lac.

About 15 miles south of me.

  94. SlackBoss says:

Have the Pirates won a game yet with Buck behind the plate?

  95. Irish says:

    Me too… 100 on Win!

  96. Jason81 says:

    100 on the WIN, please!

  97. Baywatch says:

Going well! If you ever saw The Andy Griffith Show, Barney called Andy “Anj” at times. I apply that logic, at times. Have a friend named Randy, and he gets “Ranj” sometimes.

  98. JohninOshkosh says:

I watched a bit of the White Sox/Twins today.

All I have to say is:

    “Lots of empty seats. Lots!”

  99. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  100. Mrevo says:

Come on Buccos, please, please, please, please, please win. And if it’s not to much to ask, can we please kick some Padre a**.

  101. MadTurk says:

Buck with Charlie? I hope he catches better then he has.

Barmes over Mercer? Well Mercer will be at short next year and hopefully if Barmes stays he will be the back up and not split so many games with Mercer.
Barmes does not bother me so much this time of year. He seems to take 3/4 of the season to get the bat going.

  102. Jandy says:

100 Mother Theresa units on the W please Mr. Playoffs. Thanks!

  103. Bill Born says:

Lets get a win tonight and we will all be in a better frame of mind.

    Good evening to you ,too!

  104. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window. 11. That is all that is left. Need to start a winning streak now. Have to say I like to the optimism being shown by the blog today. I’m all in!

    100 on the WIN

    Thanks and Go Bucs!

  105. bman says:

    50 on the WIN please

  106. JohninOshkosh says:

Grant Balfour just gave up a two run dinger to Josh Hamilton as the Angels tie the A’s in the ninth.

I really like watching the A’s. They play in the worst stadium, bar none, in sports and just win. It’s the last baseball field where you see the yard lines for the football team that shares the stadium.

Very fun team to watch. I often watch them on the package for late night viewing. I like how they are the Bay area’s red headed stepchild and just keep winning without any of the benefits enjoyed by the team across the bay.

  107. Brandie says:

My Dad’s sister lives in Milwaukee.

  108. toochca says:

    That would be a No

  109. Brandie says:

I have! I like that too!

  110. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I liked Ross when he was with the A’s. I thought he had a lot of potential. That hasn’t exactly panned out for him.

He throws from an upright delivery, tall dude.

I honestly don’t see him throwing 6 innings. The Pirates should be able to hit him pretty well.

  111. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Both of those teams suck

  112. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I think his defense behind CM is more important than his bat. His offense is bonus and defense saves more runs that he can produce offensively.

  113. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I watch them as much as possible as well. Course, I get them locally.

Talk about empty seats. In fact, their owner was just talking about that this morning as well.

But he’s an entirely different story.

  114. JohninOshkosh says:

I lived in Oakland for a brief time during La Russa’s tenure. Place used to get a fair share of fans. That was right before all the new retro stadiums were built and people didn’t really care about the stadiums.

People in SF and Berkeley used to call it Dopeland. Always cracked me up.

I read Jane Lee and Susan Slusser a lot. Two very talented beat writers.

  115. Milo Hamilton says:

The Browns have traded Trent Richardson to the Colts for Indy’s 1st round pick next year.

  116. Milo Hamilton says:

The Browns are planning on signing Willis McGahee to take his place. I’m not making any of this up.

  117. Milo Hamilton says:

Look, the Browns can stockpile all the picks they want. But giving Mike Lombardi a bevy of primo draft picks is like bankrolling Phil Robertson’s trip to Nordstrom’s.

  118. defil21 says:

Yeah I get that is Al Davis’s saying, but I use it because in the end all we want is a Win.

  119. defil21 says:

The Stains are who we thought they are! I miss Denny Green.

  120. defil21 says:

I will say this I wish Colbert was better at doing stuff like this. He should have traded Wallet last year, we knew he wasn’t going to resign so we should of got something for him.

  121. bizrow says:

100 on the win, thanks Playoffs

  122. bizrow says:

    Beat Em Bucs

    Go like 60

    We can still do this

  123. MadTurk says:

Not to argue, I don’t see much difference in the defense really. My post was that while he is getting into the game over Mercer I believe his bat will play more for us this time of year.

  124. theplanisworking says:

As bad as the Steelers ever will be, they will NEVER be as bad as the Browns.

    What are they thinking?

Mistake by the Lake is appropriate now, more than ever!

  125. Nate83 says:

The loud thump you just heard was the collective jaws of every Browns fan dropping. It could be heard from 150 miles away. Those Browns draft picks should contribute in about 4 years which is just about the time when Weadon will be ready to retire.

  126. theplanisworking says:

    Welcome back, Biz.
Hope your Vegas trip went well.

  127. theplanisworking says:

    Welcome back, Biz.
Hope your Vegas trip went well.

  128. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Understand. Mercer has a better arm, but I think Barmes is more sure handed than Mercer.

Barmes’ bat is always an issue. Though his history shows that he is a little more productive late in the season.

  129. theplanisworking says:

May I have 50 well-attended, much-viewed Hippos on the WIN!!!

    Geaux Bucs !!!!

  130. Milo Hamilton says:

On August 8th the Pirates were 16 games ahead of Washington.

  131. Dadtackular says:

100 passed balls on the loss

  132. MadTurk says:

  133. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I follow Slusser. Dopeland? From Berkeley? That is funny

  134. Nate83 says:

Right or wrong they thought they had a chance to win last year and they were in the window of Big Ben’s prime years and that window is closing fast. It hard to trade one of your key offensive players when you believe you are a contender.

  135. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    I, personally, like Hawk. He’s entertaining….

  136. theplanisworking says:

  137. Jandy says:

    Hey Biz in DaHouse :)

  138. theplanisworking says:

Do they have a Front Office, or a Back Door leading that team?

I make fun of the Browns every single day, but I cant even fathom this.
What is the reason for this trade?
What will they do at RB now? McGahee? Really?

    Just wow.

  139. JRay3 says:

And it only matters that they are at least one game ahead on Sept. 29th. Their 54-60 mark through the first 104 games is going to come back and bite them.

  140. JRay3 says:

Ok nice smooth beginning for Charlie. Boy it would sure be nice to see a game where the Bucs break out with a few early runs and play with a lead.

  141. Brandie says:

Oh Good Gravy. That’s throwing bad money after good.

  142. theplanisworking says:

La Dorka Nuna in da house!

Maybe you will get a matching tattoo like I have?? ;)

  143. Brandie says:

    It’s strictly Bizrow!

  144. theplanisworking says:

    63 inches of Afro!
    How are ewe?

  145. Brandie says:

Eye ham fine n’at. Hope that you are well Plantain!

  146. Brandie says:

    I want a laugher!

  147. defil21 says:

Cleveland spelled backwards is DNA LEVEL C.

    How’s that?

  148. You just called him a banana wannabe.

  149. theplanisworking says:

    Got My ‘Fro.
    Got My Shades.
    Got My Tattoo.

I am doing fine, Miss Grooooovy! ;)

  150. defil21 says:

I don’t disagree with you. I just wish Colbert was better with trades and acquiring more picks is all.

  151. bizrow says:

Lost my shirt, several of them

    But got married

You guys have not been taking good care of our Buccos ;-)

  152. Brandie says:

You’re bringing the cornbread and butter to my fried chicken picnic! Keep it up!

  153. Brandie says:

Nonsense. Plantain’s got soul!!! Check out his shades and fro.

  154. theplanisworking says:

    Lucky, I have been called worse…………. ;)

How are you this fine evening?

  155. irishjim says:

Blass on radio says he will eat a small Milkbone dog biscuit for every run the Pirates score tonight. Here’s to a stomach ache!

  156. Brandie says:

Was it an Elvis theme or Soul Train theme wedding?

  157. defil21 says:

I’ll bring the sweet tea, and the one liners.

  158. theplanisworking says:

Soul Train Elvis……… AKA Don Cornelius!!!

  159. Brandie says:

They better score 20! It’s like Rooker walking back to Pittsburgh!

  160. theplanisworking says:

    Love sweet tea.

    Cleveland, not so much.

  161. Milo Hamilton says:

That would have been my grandmother’s 100th birthday. Nothing gets messed up that day. She suffered through a lot of the losing along with the rest of us.

  162. irishjim says:

That was crazy! I would rather eat 100 dog biscuits before doing what Rooker did.

  163. Jandy says:

Oohh a tattoo, now there’s an idea ;)

  164. defil21 says:

  165. theplanisworking says:

  166. theplanisworking says:

I have a friend who likes the Browns.
He wants his season-ticket money back.

Mad doesnt do his mood justice.
He thought I was joking when I told him this.

  167. defil21 says:

    :( sorry brother.

  168. Jandy says:

    Nice…3 up and 3 down :)

  169. theplanisworking says:

We have the “Good” Charlie so far.
    Now for a run!

  170. JRay3 says:

+100, sorry to hear that….here’s to turning that day into a special occasion!

  171. defil21 says:

Poor guy but that’s awesome. I don’t know any Brown fans to tell them about it.

  172. Jandy says:

yinz are in fine form this evening, I see :)

  173. defil21 says:

Ground Chuck is dealing so far.

  174. Damon says:

I think they are gathering 1st rounders to draft the heir apparent to Brady Quinn. Or Braylon Edwards. Or Kellen Winslow Jr. Or Tim Couch. OK I’ll stop…

Cleveland fans just have to be done with that team. This after they announce Bryan Hoyer will start this weekend…

  175. Milo Hamilton says:

Hey, she made it to 93. I’ll sign up for that.

  176. casper in a-town says:

Hey Motown Plan! I was in downtown Cleveland today on business. Was up on the 36th floor of a building with a view of the entire city (building was on St. Clair by Lakeside Ave.). While the lake is an awe-inspiring sight, the rest of the city is depressing. Drab, if I may so so. No offense to Clevelanders, but the city itself leaves a lot to be desired. To state the obvious, it’s no Pittsburgh.

  177. Jandy says:

  178. Milo Hamilton says:

Oh, the family’s getting together to celebrate. It’ll be a good day.

  179. Jandy says:

Howdy Caspar, good to see you here this evening :)

  180. theplanisworking says:

Do Hippos have a form??? ;)

  181. casper in a-town says:

Thanks, Jandy! For the first time ever, I’ve got the game on with my laptop, well, on my lap. And I’m lurking as usual!

  182. JRay3 says:

And yet another Padre pitcher facing the minimum batters through a 1/3 of the game. Can somebody please barrel up the ball and drive it somewhere?

I can only hope they are getting this funk out now and are able to break out of it as the games become increasingly more important.

  183. theplanisworking says:

Cleveland spent 500 million dollars to spruce up the place, and still looks bad.

At least the river hasnt caught on fire since ’70.

  184. Jandy says:

    are you kidding me/???

  185. Milo Hamilton says:

They simply cannot afford to fall behind. Even by one.

  186. Jandy says:

    Sweet Lord!

  187. twentytwo22 says:

Can’t walk people 1 out and nobody on.

  188. theplanisworking says:

Why didnt Pedro throw home there?

  189. Thundercrack says:

  190. Milo Hamilton says:

The play was to home there.

  191. Arriba Wilver says:

  192. theplanisworking says:

And, Casper, you have my sympathies being in Cleveland at any time…………..

  193. casper in a-town says:

I’m with you, Plan. I lived and worked in Cleveland back in the early to mid 1990’s. At that time, it wasn’t so bad. It was the city’s last “renaissance,” when Jacobs Field and the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame were going up and the Flats were still jumping. I also had the distinct pleasure of being there when Art Modell loaded up the Mayflower truck and hauled the Browns to Baltimore. Within a week, my friends of NC and Pittsburgh were faxing over applications for the Browns’ fans in my office to become Steelers’ fans. Hilarious at first, but when I learned that they wanted to hang me like a pinata, not so much.

  194. Jandy says:

it’s ok to lurk friend, just say something now and then :)

  195. Milo Hamilton says:

  196. theplanisworking says:

Tyson Ross………… the latest pitcher to win the Cy Young against the Pirates.

  197. casper in a-town says:

I’m sticking my toes in the water, Jandy!

  198. Mrevo says:

    Guess not.

  199. Reading says:

Same old, same old. No bats. No nothing.

  200. theplanisworking says:

Be careful sticking your toes in the water.
Jandy bites, be she swears she has had all her shots………………….

  201. Reading says:

Agree. One run equals ballgame. A run must be prevented at all costs.

  202. Arriba Wilver says:

I predict that if they lose this game it will be Clint’s fault for not pulling Charlie sooner.

  203. Jandy says:

I can’t believe how bad this fielding is…simply…horrid.

  204. Jandy says:

    Charlie isn’t the problem :P

  205. Brandie says:

    No bats, no glory!

  206. casper in a-town says:

It’s hard to worry about a nun, Plan. I’m more worried about the hippos. Especially ones from Motown.

  207. Jandy says:

So Charlie helps himself out :)

  208. Brandie says:

    Rather lurk than lurch!

  209. Patrick(ri) says:

A Browns discussion during a Pirate game. I think that says it all.

  210. Reading says:

Maybe it’ll rain tomorrow and SD can get the H out of here.

  211. Milo Hamilton says:

Justin Morneau has 1 RBI. Cutch must never be on base.

  212. theplanisworking says:

    Nothing to worry about here.

  213. Arriba Wilver says:

    EYE know that. ;-)

  214. Milo Hamilton says:

Garrett Jones has 3 since he stopped playing.

  215. Patrick(ri) says:

I know why they play him and I acknowledge his gamer pinch hit on Sunday, but with Jones, he would occasionally hit the crap out the ball. I have yet to see Morneau do that.

  216. Arriba Wilver says:

    What would Doug think?

  217. irishjim says:

I’ve seen enough. Lets see what Harrison, Jones, T. Sanchez, Tabata, Pie, Lambo, Mercer can do against this team.

  218. Milo Hamilton says:

  219. Jandy says:

    I told Yinz, I don’t bite, I kick ;)

  220. Damon says:

Man this is aggravating to watch….again. All the right-handers are trying to pull the curveball rather than taking it to the opposite field. Sigh…

  221. theplanisworking says:

I havent had the time to check AJ’s Twitter feed tonight. Is he still pre-occupied with attendance? I am pre-occupied with this horrid O.

    Not to be critical…………….

  222. casper in a-town says:

Something about those size 9 wides that makes me a bit leery, then. I’m sure they pack a helluva kick.

  223. Patrick(ri) says:

I think it is time to add fastballs, chage-ups, sliders and probably Ephesus pitches to the list of what the Prates can’t hit.

  224. JRay3 says:

    Couldn’t hurt

  225. JRay3 says:

I’m beginning to think you could set the ball on a tee at the plate and these guys would not hit it.

  226. JRay3 says:

Lost in all this offensive ineptitude once again is an excellent pitching performance being delivered by Charlie.

  227. Milo Hamilton says:

Reds get 2 in the top of the 1st at Houston.

  228. Mrevo says:

Why is nobody calling for Jay Bell to be fired? I know you don’t make a change at this point in the season, but this has been going on all season.

  229. Patrick(ri) says:

On the plus side, all of our hitters appear to have “slow heart beats” this month.

  230. Mrevo says:

    Thank you

  231. JRay3 says:

I would say it has something to do with them facing a pitcher with a 5.45 ERA in Peacock, but who am I kidding he would probably throw a two hit shutout against the Bucs.

  232. Patrick(ri) says:

Buck seems to swing like he means it.

  233. Lad 9 says:

Good evening Crüe. Lets get some runs here. We are making every pitcher look like Bob Gibson in his prime.
Casper I have to go to Cleveland 2-3 times a month for business. And I have to tell you that are missing the best view. Go downtown and get on I-71 south. Then look in your rear view mirror. Best view of Cleveland ever. :)

  234. Patrick(ri) says:

  235. Jandy says:

caspar, my kicks must be earned…it’s not easy to do ;)

    Lad, you speak wisdom !!!

  236. Damon says:

  237. Patrick(ri) says:

  238. JRay3 says:

I love Bob Walk’s analysis – we are going to need a little luck tonight, we are hitting the ball well but right at some people.

Seriously? Is the booth really that far from the playing field that he can not see what is transpiring?

  239. Jandy says:

Yes, Charlie is pitching his heart out…

  240. Dave G says:

Too much credit to San Diego pitchers.

Bucs’ offense is just offensive these past few games.

  241. theplanisworking says:

    Laddy, welcome.

There is one great view in Cleveland………… the sign that says “Pittsburgh 180 miles”. :)

  242. Milo Hamilton says:

  243. JRay3 says:

The Padres could probably put Ronny Cedeno on the mound and it would not make a difference.

Through six Ross has faced the minimum batters, wake me from this bad dream.

  244. Jandy says:

YOu have form and a tattoo ;)

  245. Lad 9 says:

Or the sign when I was heading to Cleveland that said Cleveland LEFT. So I turned around and went home.

  246. piratemike says:

Have you ever heard the expression ” You can’t get blood out of a rock ” ?

  247. Brandie says:

  248. Milo Hamilton says:

This will be 28 of 38 for the Nats.

  249. Reading says:

Hey, Reds and Nats are winning. No problem, though. It’s all in the bag.

  250. Brandie says:

    Mmm! Ground Chuck!

  251. Damon says:

I think it was Walk that just said, “Ross is having his best performance of his major league career.” Go figure.

  252. irishjim says:

For this to happen twice in 3 nights against this team is no accident. I feel bad everyone who bought playoff tickets today. Best case scenario we lose 2-0 on October 1 in the WC game.

  253. casper in a-town says:

Lad & Plan — you are both spot on! You have no idea what was like being a western PA kid living in Browns’ country. My only saving grace was being transferred out of the Cleveland office to Philly. While Philly isn’t the ‘burgh, it’s still PA. Sadly enough, I’ve ended up in Austintown, OH, but at least there is a fair number of Pittsburgh fans and I’m only about an hour and 10 away from the stadiums and Consol.

  254. florida steeler says:

Not only can’t Pedro hit, he forgot a runner was right in front of him on his bouncer to Neil at second base. He may hit 32 home runs but he kills this team offensively and his defense is bad!!!!
Not all his fault though, these guys cannot hit–Walker is pathetic. That pitcher last night for the Padres was a complete joke–fast ball of 86. San Diego’s Cy Young, tonight, is not much better.

  255. Damon says:

    I blame the Harvest Moon.

  256. theplanisworking says:

There are many reasons that city is called “The Mistake by the Lake”

  257. Lad 9 says:

BRANDIE!!!!!! How is Phillipsburg this evening?

  258. theplanisworking says:

    The Beer? ;)

  259. florida steeler says:

    Blue Moon beer is excellent.

  260. Brandie says:

Where is the offense? This is too much like slogging through a vat full of chocolate pudding!

  261. irishjim says:

Blass just ate a dog biscuit in the radio booth to start the scoring. Desperation time.

  262. Steelag70 says:

This is like a bad dream…this is unbelievable…

  263. Damon says:

Yes it is! Red Robin makes a Blue Moon milkshake that is actually really, really good…

  264. Milo Hamilton says:

Cashner, Stults & Ross = Maddux, Glavine & Smoltz.

  265. Baywatch says:

When I was a high schooler in the early ’70s, we were familiar with the expression “that sucks,” but it wasn’t used nearly as much as it is today. However, if something was REALLY MESSED up, we’d say it “sucks out loud.”

    THIS sucks out loud.

  266. John Lease says:

Good thing Morneau was in the lineup, or they would be no hit so far.

Barmes defenders, come out. This putrid lineup isn’t hitting, so by all means run that jabroni out there.

  267. Mrevo says:

Yeah, I’m really not even suggesting he is to blame, but you’d think there would at least be some discussion about it.

  268. defil21 says:

Cripes somebody cork a bat, take some PED’s, hit the dang ball. Just BUNT for a run and hope for a couple walks!

  269. defil21 says:

I thought it was Nolan Ryan pitching tonight, or maybe that was last night.

  270. Seriously this, is getting ridiculous.

  271. defil21 says:

I’d like to buy 2 runs for $50 Pat.

  272. Damon says:

There’s one way to get on! Woohoo!!!!

  273. theplanisworking says:

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm……. chocolate pudding!

  274. Steelag70 says:

    This is embarrassing…

  275. Patrick(ri) says:

Finally, a payoff for waving at pitches in the dirt!

  276. Thundercrack says:

AJ Burnett just tweeted me. Wants to know why I’m not at the game tonight

  277. theplanisworking says:

Thought it was Koufax, Gibson, and Carlton……….

  278. theplanisworking says:

  279. theplanisworking says:

  280. Jandy says:

and what did you tell him???

  281. Lad 9 says:

Rally! Making the strike out work for us!

  282. Milo Hamilton says:

    That what MVP’s do.

  283. Jandy says:

    Bye, baby, Bye!!!

  284. theplanisworking says:

    CUTCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 good guys!!!

  285. Reading says:

THAT is what an MVP does!!!!”!”””

  286. defil21 says:

    I meant to say Andrew!

  287. That’s what I’m talkin’ about. Cutch steps up!

  288. Jandy says:

do I hear an echo? ;)

  289. Thundercrack says:

I told him to mind his own business.

  290. Steelag70 says:

  291. Reading says:

    Jinks. See below.

  292. irishjim says:

Indeed. Sigh of relief for all.

  293. Lad 9 says:

+22. Good move to give him the green light. MVP!

  294. Steelag70 says:

Cutch said enough of this crap!!!

  295. defil21 says:

++++. I’ll post to that Milo!

  296. Thundercrack says:

Now I am worried…will Clint know when to pull Charlie?!

  297. casper in a-town says:

This is why we watch, folks.

  298. Steelag70 says:

Hopefully this will open the floodgates…

  299. Jandy says:

  300. theplanisworking says:

Thank goodness he did, because no one else seems capable.

  301. Lad 9 says:

    Lets go Byrdman!

  302. theplanisworking says:

So excited someone got a hit, that I meant to say 2-1 good guys.

  303. Reading says:

Just saying to my wife, an MVP hammers the ball into the stands to take the lead when everyone else is faltering around you.

  304. florida steeler says:

What the hell are they doing???

  305. theplanisworking says:

    Echo! ;)

  306. Patrick(ri) says:

  307. Brandie says:

  308. Steelag70 says:

    Jeebus Pie….

  309. theplanisworking says:

    Horrible umps, yet again.

  310. Reading says:

    Where’s Welke?

  311. Milo Hamilton says:

    Ridiculous. Next year he’s safe.

  312. Lad 9 says:

That wasn’t even close! Did I hear that the umpires name is Dreck-man? It fits if so.

  313. JRay3 says:

    Just unreal

  314. irishjim says:

Need the expanded replay rule ASAP. And computer zone for balls/strikes. Human error is too great in MLB.

  315. florida steeler says:

Umpires are really bad. Hope replay comes in for everything . It isn’t just against the Pirates–every night there are horrible misses by these guys

  316. theplanisworking says:

    In Cutch We Trust.

  317. Brandie says:

Rock in’ Lad Daddy! How is my favorite superhero this side of Byrd Man? C’mon guys, bring it home for Charlie. He deserves that much!

  318. Baywatch says:

The call on Pie’s steal attempt sucked out loud!

  319. florida steeler says:

    I agree–they are really bad.

  320. casper in a-town says:

I was thinking more like Jerry Meals

  321. theplanisworking says:

How do they keep their jobs?

  322. Brandie says:

Another umpire with a Look at Me moment!

  323. Jandy says:

    Good job!

  324. Brandie says:

It sucked so hard it caved my head in!

  325. Patrick(ri) says:

Agree umps are awful these days, but games are agonizingly long now. Just imagine if every dubious call is appealed?

  326. Brandie says:

    Isn’t Revvie Great?

  327. florida steeler says:

Must admit, Welke is calling a pretty good game behind the plate tonight.

  328. Brandie says:

They sleep their way to the top!

  329. irishjim says:

Their negligence borders on criminal. The past few seasons have been especially atrocious.

  330. Reading says:

Cutch changes the dynamic. Braves now winning on Upton HR.

  331. Barb says:

Good evening all. At least we have a better game this evening.

  332. JRay3 says:

Braves up 3-2 on Nats maybe Fredi getting tossed got Atlanta going

  333. theplanisworking says:

Foul image of Bud sleeping with anyone……..

  334. Brandie says:

Celebrate long and loud. 93! May we all be blessed to see so much!

  335. Jandy says:

    Charlie is smokin!!!

  336. Reading says:

    STFD Rony

  337. Kevin says:

Anyone upset at hurdle for taking out Morneau? And not because pie got “CS” but because the guy with 2 of the 3 hits is outta the game.

  338. twentytwo22 says:

    STFD Rony Ronny Ronnie Ronney

  339. Jandy says:

    Hey Barb :)

  340. DJ says:

Wow! Ump loved ringing up Cedeno almost as me.

  341. twentytwo22 says:

    You said it.

  342. Barb says:

    Hey Jandy!

  343. casper in a-town says:

Charlie. Enough said. Changes the dynamic, no? Who starts the one and one wild card game (assuming that’s what it comes down to)?

  344. DJ says:

    . . . as much as me.

  345. JRay3 says:

What an effort turned in by Morton!

    Rockies 2 Cards 0

  346. Steelag70 says:

Charlie is pitching like an Ace tonight…

  347. casper in a-town says:

that should be one and done. sorry, my fingers don’t type in synch with my brain.

  348. florida steeler says:

Rony was on Welke’s radar–never a good thing to do.

  349. Brandie says:

Glass ate a dog biscuit in the home half of last inning to spark the rally! It’s called The Rally Biscuit!

By the way…Cedeno is an A$$!

  350. irishjim says:

    Road-AJ (just my opinion)

  351. Baywatch says:

A pinch-hitting appearance for Lambo, and an insurance run! I’m feeling it!

  352. Barb says:

    Go Rockies. :)

  353. Brandie says:

    JRAY TRE! Great update man!

  354. irishjim says:

    #rallybiscuit is trending

  355. casper in a-town says:

great to have this discussion after 20 years of talking draft picks

  356. Barb says:

    ++++++++++++ :)

  357. JRay3 says:

No as move also improved team defensively late in game with lead.

  358. DJ says:

    Sure was.

Shed the mask in the blink of an eye.

  359. Lad 9 says:

    He was incredible.

  360. Brandie says:

LAMBO CALRISSIAN…As Cool As The Other Side Of The Pillow.

  361. Nate83 says:

What a great 10 minutes of baseball. 3 games all turned in the Pirates favor.

  362. theplanisworking says:

    Evening, Miss Barb. :)

  363. irishjim says:

True story. My winter vacation plans are on hold until the Pirates season is over and I see how much, if at all, postseason trips to the burgh break the bank.

  364. Barb says:

Now if we could get the Reds to cooperate all would be right with the world.

  365. Jandy says:

Pedro didn’t get the rally memo

  366. Barb says:

He did but it was recalled before he could read it!

  367. Jandy says:

    Preach it, sistah!!

  368. theplanisworking says:

  369. Brandie says:

This team will not be denied! The Revolution will be televised…Just not on ESPN!

  370. DJ says:

He’s turned the corner this year.

He has the make-up to be a consistent performer — never too high and never too low. If anything, I thought he was too introspective after games. Now he’s just pitching.

  371. Reading says:

Walk on Cutch HR: “Put that in your MVP pipe and smoke it!”

  372. The Gunner says:

Charles Morton has really stepped up and is doing one helluva job tonight. It sure would be nice if we could get a couple more runs for insurance.

  373. Barb says:

No but the Red Sox and the Yankees get top billing!

  377. Lad 9 says:

OK bring on the chum for the Shark!

  378. The Gunner says:

    The Pedro disappointment continues.

  379. Jandy says:

OK Great White Shark…shut ‘em down!!

  380. florida steeler says:

    That would be wonderful-but?????

  381. 21sthebest says:

For my first ever tweet I’m thinking of tweeting him that our playoff rotation should be Liriano, Morton, and Cole.

  382. Reading says:

Really, really tired of that guy.

  383. Steelag70 says:

It’s still unbelieveable that this team has only scored 4 runs in three games…

  384. Brandie says:

Time to end this! Squeeze your (Complete The ) Rally Hippos!

  385. The Gunner says:

    need a hoover

  386. Steelag70 says:

    Ok…two more…come on Shark…

  387. JohninOshkosh says:

    + Many 21 Gunner Salute!

  395. Jandy says:

    woo hoo baby!

  396. Kevin says:

Wow.. Jedi mind trick putting a pitcher as pinch runner???

  397. Brandie says:

  398. Steelag70 says:

  399. The Gunner says:

thanks, Brandie / Melancon is making it interesting tonight

  400. Reading says:

It’s like the family photo in Back to the Future fading away and then coming back.

  401. irishjim says:

Melancon has been playing with fire the past few saves. Finally bit him.

  402. theplanisworking says:

    CRAP !

  403. Milo Hamilton says:

    Having fun yet ?

  404. Reading says:

Really don’t like that SD pitcher either.

  405. Kevin says:

No way, cashners going to beat us twice in this series?? :(

  406. Thundercrack says:

A pinch running pitcher ties it up against us

  407. JohninOshkosh says:

What an infuriating game baseball is.

  408. Reading says:

  410. theplanisworking says:

  411. Steelag70 says:

  412. J Walter Weatherman says:

All you can do is laugh. This team is toast. Toast. Toast.

  413. bizrow says:

    It ain’t easy being green

It ain’t easy being in a pennant race

  414. irishjim says:

  415. pattonbb says:

    who’s getting fired tonight?

  416. The Gunner says:

those damn SOBs from San Diego!!!!!!!!

  417. JohninOshkosh says:

I think some dogs are choking on those biscuits.

  418. DJ says:

A clinic on taking the outer half pitches to right the last few days. Hope our hitters are taking notes.

    OK, we’ll need a rally.

  419. florida steeler says:

Are there any outfielders that can throw a runner out at home anymore??

  420. Arriba Wilver says:

There IS a limit to optimism. ;-)

  421. 21sthebest says:

Throw from the outfield wasn’t very good.

  422. Brandie says:

It’s baseball. It should not be this infuriating! Jurko is a Jag off!

  423. Just don’t want to beat san dog do they? Game set match as they go up 3-2. How about pitch inside or play your defense for them hitting to right all day.

  424. theplanisworking says:

I posted a new Lunatic for you above.

  425. theplanisworking says:

I posted a new Lunatic for you above.

  426. Arriba Wilver says:

    There has been.

  427. The Gunner says:

stick it where the sun don’t shine, Walter Weirdo

  428. Steelag70 says:

Un-freaking-believeable…I really feel for Morton and Cutch

  429. twentytwo22 says:

Nice pitch selection. 4 right handed batters get hits the same way.

  430. theplanisworking says:

I think you squeezed too hard !!!!

  431. J Walter Weatherman says:

Hey AJ, that’s why nobody is going to the games.

  432. Baywatch says:

    The indignity.

  433. Lad 9 says:

    Time to rally!

  434. Arriba Wilver says:

  435. Brandie says:

Do you only post when things go wrong, Mr. Weatherman? You seem to enjoy that immensely!

  436. DJ says:

He knew exactly what he was getting on the first pitch, he was prepared for it and then he did exactly what a lot of hitters don’t do against Melancon.

  437. bizrow says:

Thanks, did we get any new sign ins?

    We need a win tonight

  438. Arriba Wilver says:

  439. That sound you heard was STL tied up at 2 and US losing 3-2, Cincy up 3-2.

  440. J Walter Weatherman says:

The Pirates have 3 hits. The guy with 2 of them is no longer in the lineup. Gee, I wonder how this game will end.

  441. Steelag70 says:

Buck has yet to catch in a game the Buccos have won since coming over…

  442. Arriba Wilver says:

    I wasn’t even in the house. ;-)

  443. The Gunner says:

you are quite the jag off, Walter

  444. Brandie says:

I will give that to you, absolutely.

  445. Steelag70 says:

If we can just get Cutch up again…

  446. Milo Hamilton says:

OK, I’ll bite. Dogs, choking ?

  447. florida steeler says:

Why, why, why do they use Garrett Jones???

  448. DJ says:

    Not a fan.

One thing Martin does very well is set a low target. Buck is higher.

  449. Mrevo says:

Yes AJ, if I’m at home I can change the channel. Nobody wants to spend money to be tortured…and this is torture.

  450. Mrevo says:

Yes AJ, if I’m at home I can change the channel. Nobody wants to spend money to be tortured…and this is torture.

  451. theplanisworking says:

Ask Jandy, I only saw that one.

We needed a win the past 3 nights.

  452. The Gunner says:

  453. Brandie says:

I broke my own rule responding to an annoying post. 21 Gunner, it is no worth wasting our time feeding one that is so unworthy!

  454. theplanisworking says:

    Cleveland Fans, Milo. ;)

  455. DJ says:

They have us very well scouted, both our hitters and our pitchers.

  456. irishjim says:

Morton gave up 2 hits in 8 innings. Hardly the issue at least tonight.

  457. Brandie says:

    Let’s stop feeding the weed!

  458. Steelag70 says:

Marte is no good for a HR here…even before the injury, he had slowed down with the long ball…

  459. Thundercrack says:

    It was not

  460. Steelag70 says:

Wow…THEIR closer can actually get it done tonight…

  461. J Walter Weatherman says:

Don’t be mad because I’m correct.

  462. twentytwo22 says:

Good luck to the Padres in the playoffs.. oh that’s right they are 71-80. Quality squad. Way to go Pirates.

  463. Steelag70 says:

  464. Milo Hamilton says:

  465. Dave G says:

Sooooo glad that San Diego is not in our division. It would suck to lose to them 15 times a year.

  467. JohninOshkosh says:

Atlanta is beating Washington and Reds have 1 run lead over Astros in 4th but Stros have bases loaded.

  468. Arriba Wilver says:

This game’s on Clint for putting Melancon in.

(Just trying to get to the front of the line)

  469. Barb says:

    Don’t feed the troll.

  470. Steelag70 says:

This team is slowly choking the playoffs away…

  471. Barb says:

    He has the perfect name….Jerko!

  472. theplanisworking says:

    Cant even describe this.
3 straight games, 3 straight bum pitchers, 3 straight losses.

San Diego now 31-10 at PNC Park.
    Simply inexcusable.

  473. The Gunner says:

have a great day, Walter Wanderly

  474. theplanisworking says:

Jandy, Brandie, Milo, AW…….. and any I missed, good night.

Time to resume sniffing glue. ;)

  475. J Walter Weatherman says:

Still don’t think the Nats will catch the Bucs, but it’s a shame the Bucs won’t get a home playoff game after a great season (well most of it was great).

  476. JohninOshkosh says:

Time, or lack of it, is on the Bucs side. The Reds may catch the Pirates and force the Bucs to play a road WC game. But the Nats are running out of time. There is NO WAY the Nats will catch the Bucs, especially if the Nats lose tonight and fail to take advantage of the Pirates loss. Sorry, its just not going to happen.

  477. The Gunner says:

this one is a tough one to swallow, AW

  478. Milo Hamilton says:

You gotta get 3 outs before they get 1 run. Pretty simple. It’s your only job. What happened before is totally irrelevant.

  479. Chuck H says:

Why did our stupid manager take Morton out? He had allowed 2 hits in 8 innings. He should have finished the game. This is an example of what you get when you don’t
score runs. This team sucks and it’s a good thing they’re not going to the play-offs. They
would only play one game anyhow with no hitters in the lineup. I’m guessing Hurdle has
indirectly lost 10 or 15 games for the Bucs this season by dumb decisions.

  480. Steelag70 says:

    Don’t kid yourself John…anything can happen…

  481. DJ says:

Speaking generally as I watched just a couple innings tonight.

I did think Buck was setting high for Melancon’s cutter though. That said, as I posted above, they had our pitchers (and our hitters) well scouted and they knew to take Melancon to the right side. Got to give SD credit there.

  482. 3 and 4 on this final homestand with 4 more to go. Hope the daytime atmosphere tomorrow helps the bats wake the heck up.

  483. Brandie says:

Put this on the Pirates. They left it in the hands an umpire who made a horrible call and the team wasted a quality performance by Morton. BBB I hope this loss goes down hard and the Bucs better come out swinging tomorrow.

  484. Steelag70 says:

It would be nice to think that someone in that clubhouse stands up and reminds these guys that they still have 10 games left and NOTHING has been clinched yet…maybe even light a fire under some asses…

  485. BreakTheStreak says:

This is on Hurdle. Melanin hasn’t had a freakin clean inning in his last 6-7 appearances. Ok he gives up the tying run. Now get him out of the freak in game you idiot Hurdle. No wonder you have a losing record as manager. What a dope

  486. Arriba Wilver says:

Agree. I’m just whistling through the graveyard.

But I see by Chuck H’s post below I was prescient. ;-)

  487. JohninOshkosh says:

    Good night, Brandi.

    I love ya

    You’re always
    A day
    A way!

  488. JohninOshkosh says:

  489. Thundercrack says:

When do we okay the Padres next year ? I hope we’re done with them by August 1

  490. DJ says:

Chuck H, I would like to introduce you to someone.

Chuck H, meet Bob Hasis. Bob Hasis, meet Chuck H.

  491. Arriba Wilver says:

    Are you serious?

  492. The Gunner says:

I agree with you, Steelag. AJ needs to do like Hoak, Groat, Roberto, Willie, The Cobra, and Scrap Iron Phil would do & get these teammates of his fired up………….NOW!!!

  493. Arriba Wilver says:

    Add BreakTheStreak to that.

I really thought I was just joking. smh

  494. DJ says:

BTS: Have you met Chuck H and Bob Hasis yet?

I would like to do the introductions if I might.

  495. Thundercrack says:

Is it too late to trade for a bat!

  496. bizrow says:

    Folks get your crap together

    Its not over

    Not by a long shot

Act like you’ve been here before

    Ok, some haven’t…..

    Beat Em Bucs

No one says it will be easy

    I choose the light

  497. Milo Hamilton says:

3 blown saves in 19 opportunities is a lot.

DK: A little misleading, Milo. Remember that mid-inning blown leads are recorded as blown saves just the same as a true save situation in a final inning. Weird but true.

  498. Chuck H says:

D.J. What’s your point? Makes no sense yet.

  499. J Walter Weatherman says:

I wouldn’t give up on Melancon quite yet, but Hurdle has to change his philosophy and be willing to give pitchers a quick hook when they get into trouble. Watson wouldn’t be a bad option if they do need to move on from Melancon.

The Pirates are a Pedro breakout from comfortably waltzing into the playoffs. He’s more important offensively than Cutch and that’s shown in the record recently, even though Cutch has been on fire.

  500. Reading says:

Well, let’s hope Kimbrel gets the job done in the bottom of the 9th to derail the Nats. Braves up 5-2.

  501. defil21 says:

The Curse of Brian Giles strikes again.

  502. Lad 9 says:

Amazing. Melancon had an ERA 1.07 coming in. Why would you use him? An ERA like that means he gives up one run per nine, and it was the ninth after all. :)

AW, Gunner, if CH found the cure for cancer some people would blame him for not finding the cure for diabetes along the way. SMH too. Got to get them tomorrow.

  503. Arriba Wilver says:

Personally, I think he’s responsible for the crisis in Syria.

  504. Cobra39 says:

Watching the Pirates offense should be classified as a form of torture. They need to add a real impact bat in the offseason.

  505. Milo Hamilton says:

The Marte dropped fly was one. The other I just looked up. I was there, he gave up 3 hits in the 8th on May 18th to let the stinky Astros tie it up. They lost in extras. So there’s one of those.

  506. DJ says:

    I was worried about that.

Breathe deep and let’s see how this all plays out. We all want them to win.

And you can use the Reply button on occasion too (like above).

  507. Lad 9 says:

Beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will. I

I choose too the light. Thank you Biz. Go Buccos!

  508. Arriba Wilver says:

  509. Reading says:

Watching Braves- Nats bottom of the 9th. Can I absorb two blown saves in one night? At least LaRoche won’t bat and get a troll ex-Pirate HR. I think.

  510. Milo Hamilton says:

It usually falls between April & June.

  511. Reading says:

    One out.

  512. Reading says:

    Two outs, nobody on.

  513. defil21 says:

  514. Lad 9 says:

    Nats lose. Magic number 5

  515. Reading says:

Three outs. Ballgame. Braves 5 Nats 2. Magic Number 5.

  516. Arriba Wilver says:

    Thanks for the insight.

  517. Baywatch says:

Bud-A-Boomp. Milo, I think Arreebz was a little surprised that Melancon had a save opportunity in May, before Grilli went out.

  518. Thundercrack says:

Clint talks a lot = hot air = global warming

  519. WVStarship says:

There’s no sense in talking like that. This is the way games are played in MLB now. You have a 1 run lead in the 9th and as long as the starter isn’t throwing a no-hitter– in goes the closer.

Hurdle’s managed like that all year. If the situation is the same tomorrow he’ll do the same thing. Guaranteed.

If you fire Hurdle and bring in someone else, he’ll do the exact same thing in the same situation. They all do.

  520. WVStarship says:

Maybe they should bring in Sid Bream.

  521. WVStarship says:

I have no frickin’ idea what either of you just said.

  522. WVStarship says:

Please tell me you’re not serious.

  523. WVStarship says:

Are you suggesting that Dick Cheney be the new GM?

  524. WVStarship says:

Nats deserve the wild card. Bucs don’t.

  525. Reading says:

Helton Ks with bases juiced, Cards win 4-3.

  526. Reading says:

Teds tied 4-4 in bottom of 9th, Astros have two guys on, Teds bring in Z. Duke.

  527. Arriba Wilver says:

    Weird statement.

  528. John Lease says:

It sure wasn’t. A reasonable throw beats him by a mile. Even that crappy throw ALMOST got him.

  529. Both the Pirates and the Steelers and the other Pittsburgh teams need to follow the advice that Republican commentator/sports fan George Will gave to the Chicago Cubs a while back: Quit being resigned to finishing second best every year.

  530. The Pirates, The Steelers, the Penguins, and indeed all the Pittsburgh sports teams should take the following advice from Republican commentator/sports fan George Will that he gave to the Chicago Cubs a while back: Quit being resigned to finishing second best every year!

  531. The Pirates’ offense has been frustratingly anemic all season. It certainly needs to come alive sometime!

  532. Dave G says:

All eyes forward to the Reds.
