  1. The Groat Bowl. Who will he root for?

His alma mater or his hometown college team?

    • Depends on the ratings.

    • This is a very, very, very hard game for me!

DUKE needs this win! Pitt needs this win!

DUKE lost its starting QB to a broken collarbone. Pitt is on the road.

I love DUKE!! Pitt is my hometown college team!

Dick Groat graduated from Duke. Maz graduated from the University of Gold Glove.
Dick Stuart (Dr. Strangeglove) didn’t graduate nothin’.

      If it’s basketball, I don’t even pause. D-U-K-E!!

      Today . . . . I have decided to root for . . . . The Winner!

  2. Great opening drive by the Panthers, encouraging sign to see them control the line of scrimmage and march down the field on a 12 play 85 yard scoring drive.

Like Chryst going for it and rewarded with seven. Go Pitt!

  3. Where did Pitt find that kicker??

  4. We may be seeing something special developing with Connor. Great blend of elusiveness, balance, and especially power. Doesn’t have breakaway speed like Graham, but makes losing Shell a moot point. Quite frankly, I think he’s better than Shell.

Special teams are a debacle. Can’t tell who’s fault it is, but snaps have definitely been high.

    • Yeah have to agree the snaps have been horrible, Blewitt is supposedly a pretty good kicker.

Really like what I see from James Conner, the look of a football player, running game does not look to be that big of a concern after all. Line is playing well and seems to be an area of strength for a PC team should help when trying to land top RB recruits.

  5. Well what Pitt is lacking in the kicking game, they are making up for on defense, two picks by the Panther secondary on first two Duke drives. Need to cash in some points here.

  6. Secondary much improved from poor performance against FSU.

  7. Yeah, Boyd is pretty good too.

  8. Tyler Boyd is THE REAL DEAL!!!!!

  9. Tyler Boyd is SPECIAL, what moves he shows in breaking tackles, ankles and shows speed and elusiveness on that 27 yard TD.

Local kids take notice, talent plays with PC, Boyd a star in the making.

    • I agree–the other good kid that went to Alabama will wait, at least, one year and maybe two when he could have played immediately at Pitt. I have forgotten his name but still believe he made a big mistake.

      • Robert Foster, their was talk earlier this week he tweeted -”guess my mother was right” eluding to possibly regretting his decision to go to Alabama. Tweet was removed quickly.

He certainly has to hear about how local kid is playing, contributing and getting a lot of pub. Should help Pitt in the future.

  10. Too funny. Donald just tackled both the quarterback and the running back with a single wrap-up.

  11. Donald with an incredible play, then they give up long 3rd down TD. This defense is obviously mediocre overall. One great player (Donald), a couple of good players (Hendricks, Williams), and a bunch of mediocre to average players – jury still out on Thomas and Pitts. Good teams will pick on the weak links. Offense will have to score a lot of points to win games against better teams.

  12. If a Pa. kid goes to Florida, FSU, Alabama–believe me, they will not get favorable breaks over the local recruits.

  13. A throw that Sunseri could never make. Nice play.

  14. Savage to Street for 67 yards…TD Pitt. 20 points in the 1st quarter following a 49 point game, have to like what the offense is showing.

  15. At least the officials are consistent – all you can ask for. Letting them play.

  16. Tyler Boyd may be better than any Steeler receiver. (lol)

  17. This is just silly, Pitt making it look like playstation football. Savage to Boyd for 69 yards and Boyd with 114 yards receiving in a 16 minutes of play.

    27-7 Panthers!

    • You can legitimately say he’s a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. Dare I say he may be a legit Heisman candidate in the next couple of years?

  18. When is the last time we could say that Pitt is a fun team to watch? Very explosive offense.

  19. Now that Duke is on their heels, I say run the ball down their throats on the next possession. Would complete destroy any remaining will they had in this game.

  20. Wow, the Pitt secondary is really suspect. Not good.

  21. #9 has bitten badly on both touchdowns.

  22. Both Duke TD’s have come on 3rd and long situations, defense definitely needs to tighten that up.

  23. After htat 40 yard run, James Conner now has 13 carries for 125 yards, impressive running, more impressive line domination.

  24. I’ll stick with my earlier statement and say there was no reason to throw one pass on that drive. Duke wasn’t stopping the run. First questionable play-calling of the game, but not too egregious.

  25. The defense is as bad as the offense is good. Lots of high scoring games. At least they’ll be entertaining!

  26. Special teams and defense is a joke.

  27. Won’t win too many games against decent teams when two of the three units are very bad.

  28. First team to 60 wins? That Crowder kid is pretty electric himself.

  29. It’s very evident that PC has a very good offensive mind. His weakness is finding decent assistant coaches for defense and ST.

  30. Keep. Running. Connor.

  31. Interesting to watch high school football on a Saturday….

  32. Hey, the WR screen doesn’t work when Pitt runs is either. It’s almost like that’s an ineffective play or something…

  33. Tyler Boyd is good.
    That is all.

  34. Tyler Boyd, why not? 3rd TD of game and one Panthers needed. 37-28 and not even halftime yet.

Huge drive and score, hope PC can get some adjustments made on defense in the locker room.

    • Boyd wisely seems to be more and more part of the game plan each week. By the end of the season, opposing teams will be game planning for him.

+28 on the comment regarding defensive (and special teams) adjustments. Unfortunately, talent is also a big problem, so adjustments will only do so much.

      • They were better last year defensively and considered a decent unit….does the team miss Huxtable that much?

        • It appears they do miss him, but still too difficult to say how much is coaching and how much is talent. Like the Steelers offense, it’s probably a bad mix of both.

  35. I don’t know what the Pitt single season record is for all-purpose yards, but Boyd might break it during his career … and maybe even this year. It’s very possible he’ll average 250+ all-purpose yards per game this season.

  36. Good start for the defense to get a three and out to start second half. Offense had 468 yards of offense in opening half, going to need a bit more of that.

  37. Heck of a over the shoulder catch by Street on a perfect throw from Savage. 44-28 Panthers.

Savage now with 355 yards passing and 5 TD’s.

  38. Hahahahahahaha.
Horrible fake punt for a loss. :)

  39. Huge special teams play for Pitt sniffing out the fake, great field position and chance to start putting game away.

  40. That was a pretty obvious fake punt situation. Glad Pitt was prepared – good play.

  41. Nice TD on a simple in route.

    51-28 good guys.

  42. Savage with his 6th TD to Orndoff another true freshman and Pitt makes it 51-28. Defense has gotten three stops to start second half, encouraging.

  43. Bisnowaty is an absolute BEAST. Handled his guy all day and on one occasion, blocked two people.

  44. Secondary is awful.

  45. Pitt with over 600 yards of offense in 3rd quarter.

  46. Wow. I didn’t think L. Pitts was that bad coming into the season. He looks horrible.

  47. First team to 70?

  48. #9–AGAIN–he can’t cover anyone. This defense is disgusting against a marginal opponent with second team QB picking them apart.

  49. Huge INT by Gordon, Panther third of the day to swing momentum back.

  50. 4th pick of the day and Gonzalez takes it to the house….defense makes another play….58-41 PITT!

  51. Gonzo! So glad to see that young man come up with a big play. He more than anyone in the program was jerked around by all the coaching changes – linebacker is his fourth different position.

  52. Who is the defensive coordinator?? Anyone know?? Better be looking for a new one. Assignment, after assignment blown.

  53. The O-line is getting worn down in the 4th quarter. Offense has looked sluggish.

  54. Folks. Pitt has just given up (at least) 55 points. To Duke. That’s Duke football. This might be the worst defense in Pitt football history, including the dark days in late 80′s and early 90′s.

DK: Don’t know, Walt. I was being told on Twitter it was all one player’s fault. :)

  55. Great catch to seal the game.

  56. Catch of the day by Weatherspoon when a play was absolutley necessary. One of the strangest and more exciting games I have ever watched.

  57. First ever road ACC win, take a W anyway you get it. Lots of coaching needs to be done on defensive side this week in preparation for Virginia.

  58. Poorest coached defense I have seen in a long time. Against Duke. Paul better get rid of his defensive coordinator.

  59. Matt House is just an AWFUL D. Coordinator…shame on him…..shame on PC for putting him in a position he isn’t going to be successful in.
Worse yet…..they don’t seem to be recruiting any better talent into the “D” pipeline….so far. :-(
Some “must gets” in this years’ h.s. class are Dravon Henry (Aliquippa), Montae Nicholson (Gateway) and Marquese Dudley-Gordon (Florida.) <<…these guys can all run…and all hit. Speeeeeeed…a must for the DB's in the ACC.
