  2. JohninOshkosh says:

Somebody named Brian Hoyer is starting quarterback for the Browns.

  3. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Per DK’s column….Sorry but I see nothing big about this game tonight.
I look at tonights contest as just another step in getting this tough season behind us.
As much as it pains me, I feel there is nothing repairable in regards to this years Steeler team.
We “might” see some slow improvement with the young OL, or here and there with other facets of the team, but I find it overall to be hopeless.
The good news is the fact that sometimes a team has to head in a very low direction before it starts to rise again.
That is what I forsee for the Steelers in the next year….

  4. MSU grad.

Steelers worked him out last season.

  5. Arriba Wilver says:

    Nice post, Daq.

  6. Eric Bowser says:

Steelers are terrible and a win at home against the Bears doesn’t really move me.

  7. Arriba Wilver says:

    So it’s not a big game? ;-)

  8. theplanisworking says:

    Careful………. this will get you:

    1) a bold reaming,
    2) decrease your %, or
    3) get you put on another list.

I have already soiled the bed on all 3 above, so I have nuttin’ to lose…… ;)

  9. theplanisworking says:

    Daq, very nicely put.

Sadly, I see the Steelers season unfolding like a slo-motion train wreck.
Until there is accountability from the Coaches, and GM for assembling this mess, improvements will difficult to come by.

Shooting for high draft picks may be the story of the 2013 Steelers.

  10. theplanisworking says:

  14. Dave G says:

    Relax, guys!

There’s still plenty of season left for Haley’s offense to… ummm…

  15. theplanisworking says:

If the Steelers are 0-4 after London, Haley will be booted.

I say we let Ben call his own plays.

  16. Brandie says:

Good Evening All. Sorry I missed the fun n games Friday and Saturday. Saw the Giants crapped the bed today. Hopefully the same does not befall our footballers. Though, with that offensive line…

    Never Mind.

  17. Brandie says:

    Welcome to the Lunacy Factory.

  18. theplanisworking says:

    Hi Brandie!

Hope all is well with you.
    And the Fam.
And any pets you may have.

    ;)

  19. Brandie says:

Welcome to Dejan’s Wacky House of Sports Tomfoolery!

  20. Brandie says:

One dog. She is an Undersized, Psychotic, Evil Black Lab who does things just to confound me. Kinda Like Dejan!

  21. Lee says:

If the Steelers lose tonight as expected, the game in London will feature 2 teams with 0-3 records. What did England do to deserve this? Will this hurt foreign relations? Perhaps Roger Goodell will issue a formal apology to the Prime Minister.

  22. theplanisworking says:

    You’re crutising for a bold reaming, Muppet ! ;)

  23. Wild Bill says:

Hello, All. Posting still from the west coast. We are working to our hotel to watch the Steelers. Not expecting anything fantastic, but sure could use a win after the Pirates loss.

Everybody else in the division won today, so it would be great to keep up. Hope Bell gets in the game.

  24. Barb says:

Hi everyone. Well if the Steelers lose tonight it will be another bad day in the ‘burgh.
We all knew Locke shouldn’t have been given the ball. Yuck. And as for tonight let Ben call his own plays because the coaching staff haven’t a clue.

  25. theplanisworking says:

    + 1 Barb.

  26. Rbilak says:

    - can the Steelers force turnover #1 on the year?

    - can Forte be contained up the middle?

    - Will Heath be the factor they need to turn season around?

    - Brian Hoyer, another mistake by Colbert? Sure looked like a darn good number 2 for Browns today?

    - Will Tomlin hold Adams and Gilbert accountable during the game and yank them if they continue the “below the line” play. If anyone saw the Jaws portion on Steeler line, it was a horrible sequence featuring Gilbert, Adams and Decastro getting blown apart on several plays. What is “OBVIOUS” is both are awful and they have one player they can put it, it is time.

    - Will we dress 5 TE and only use 2? Will Moye not dress after actually making a play? Will Worilds improve on his .5 tackles? Will Redman improve on his .5 avg? Will Cotchery be featured on end arounds? Will we have the wrong players in on substitution situations? Does Cam Heyward need another year to actually learn the system, remember Russel Wilson and RG 3 and Luck started at QB in rookie years, why does it take 3-4 years to play on this Defense?

-Dejean hit upon 2 ways season can go. I do not see them winning tonight. Colbert’s complete failure to identify the need for a backup ILB, RB, TE continue to cost them, the failures of Gilbert, Decastro and Adams are killing them. The Bears have 2 rookies starting on their O line, 1sack this year. One day we will find out who wanted Haley. Art or Tomlin?

    - if the Steelers are struggling at trade deadline, then Colbert must look to see who can be traded, already there are rumors Pats would again try for Sanders. If true, it must be done. Same with looking at any player not in future plans including Keisel, Clark, Cotchery, Hood. Can no longer fail to get nothing for assets. Can do better Han possible comp picks.

    - just saw Willie Colon with another penalty, at least some things do not change.

  27. A nun could call plays better than we’ve seen so far this season.

  28. Brandie says:

Totally agree Planet Hippo and Oh Bodacious One! :-)

  29. theplanisworking says:

You are a wise man, Reverend. ;)

  30. Brandie says:

Haley’s offense is like Halley’s Comet…Brilliant every once in a while!

  31. More like a wise guy.

When I played HS football, some QB’s called their own plays. Now, it’s unheard of even on a professional level.

Times change. Not always for the better.

Ben is smart enough and knowledgeable enough to call his own.

  32. theplanisworking says:

Its more like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates………..
    except the box is empty!

  34. defil21 says:

    24-17 Good Guys.

  35. Brandie says:

I’ll take that good vibe Professor Chaos!

  36. theplanisworking says:

Whatever the Sam hell you are on, I want some ! ;)

  37. Daquido_Bazzini says:

    Sadly…Is the key word.

  38. Brandie says:

I predict Chaos, nothing but Chaos with an influenced Hippo!

  39. JohninOshkosh says:

    Disclaimer: I’m a Bears fan.

Since 1992, the Bears, by my count, have started 47 different quarterbacks. In that time period they have played in three different stadiums, had 4 coaches, 12 losing seasons, 5 playoff appearances, 2 championship games and 1 Super Bowl loss.

That ladies and gents is a franchise in perpetual transition and turmoil.

I don’t think any franchise, perhaps in all of sports, can win a game strictly on pride like the Steelers. I would be very surprised if the Steelers don’t lean on pride, tradition and the “Steeler way” to defeat the Bears tonight. Not only do I think the Steelers will win, I believe they will win handily.

What a game, though. Two storied franchises. Exclusive, national television, One playing to get back in the season. The other playing to extend its lead in their division. Can’t wait.

  40. defil21 says:

    Water brother pure 100% H20.

  41. defil21 says:

H2O or H20 same thing LOL. Someone spiked my water.

    DEFENSE!!!!

    Sack early and often boys.

  42. defil21 says:

    Right back at you!!

  43. Brandie says:

That is a good way to put it, Wisconsin’s Finest!

  44. JohninOshkosh says:

Hey Brandie. Hope you are well this lovely autumnal evening.

  45. theplanisworking says:

For the Steelers to have had some of the numbers you poster for the Bears above….. :

    Three different stadiums: 1968
    4 different coaches: 1968
    12 losing seasons: 1962
    Wow.

    Since 1992………..
    Championship games……. 8
    Super Bowl losses…………2
    Super Bowl wins……………2
    Playoff appearances……..13
I wonder if the Steelers have had 47 QB’s since the merger in 1970.

That is quite the difference in the 2 franchises.
Looking for a win tonight, but the way the Steelers have been playing, thats a tall task.

  46. JohninOshkosh says:

Today is the autumnal equinox. Darker and darker until the winter solstice on December 21. The Steelers play the Packers in Green Bay the next day. 3:25 start so most of that game will be played in darkness. Average low temp on that day is 14 degrees.

  47. JohninOshkosh says:

Thanks, Plan. Good stuff. I was fudging a bit on the stadiums and counting old Soldier Field and new Soldier Field as two different stadiums. If you’ve been to both, then you can appreciate that.

  48. theplanisworking says:

I was to the old one. I heard the new one is an abomination compared to the old one. And, Da Bears have had 4 stadiums since 1971.

Just amazing that the Bears, one of 3 original franchises remaining, have had such a checkered past. Especially since they were founded by the “father of the NFL”, George Halas.

Since the merger in 1970, the 2 franchises have gone in completely different directions. I still say they made a huge mistake ever getting rid of Ditka.

  49. Brandie says:

So many if these sports are “What have you done for me lately?” that no one has any time to establish anything as far as systems go (Steelers being an exception). Pushing the panic / eject button has become a way of life…

    See The Cleveland Browns.

  50. Dom says:

    I predict 20-17 Steelers

  51. Eric Bowser says:

    I’m thinking Bears 24 – Steelers 7

    - TD result of hurry up offense (i.e. Ben called the plays)

    - Defense won’t create any turnovers…. again.

    - Special teams won’t be very special…. again.

    Familiar script….

  52. Arriba Wilver says:

    Heath!

  53. Brandie says:

Taking a hard line Mr. Bowser. I see where you are coming from…Steelers are a hot mess!

  54. Eric Bowser says:

Until Tomlin proves he can do it with the men he and Colbert drafted, I’m not buying what they or anyone else tells me they are selling on the Steelers.

I hope they play well but I’m going to be quite cynical…. besides, I have a reputation to uphold. LOL

  55. Eric Bowser says:

Ben to Heath…. great but I suspect he’s going to be limited.

  56. theplanisworking says:

The standard is the standard. ;)

  57. theplanisworking says:

The candy bar, or the TE? ;)

  58. Sarah says:

Offense looks pretty simple when Chicago does it

  59. Reading says:

First down after first down after first down after first down …. Way to make a statement D.

  60. Brandie says:

Don’t want to ever see a “FIRE BOWSER” post! Do your job and do it well.

  61. Brandie says:

    They statement is … SUCK!

  62. theplanisworking says:

    FIRE BOWSER!!!! ;)

  63. Brandie says:

I am fantastic. Good to talk to all of my buddies!

  64. Reading says:

About time. Only gave up 3.

  65. Brandie says:

    Plan,

That afro is lookin’ hot! Don’t forget the Afro Sheen!

  66. Brandie says:

Leave it to The Tragically Hippo!

  67. pattonbb says:

Back away from the cliff, people. The defense held.

I thought Kion Wilson was horrible last week. Interested to see if he shows any improvement tonight.

  68. Brandie says:

Heavenly Crap! William Gay did something right!

  69. theplanisworking says:

    Speaking of tragic, nice turnover……..

  70. Sarah says:

    Are you kidding me

  71. theplanisworking says:

    Hahahahahaha !!! :)

  72. twentytwo22 says:

Ben. No pool or ping pong until you stop turning the ball over.

  73. JohninOshkosh says:

The Bears are incredible at stripping balls. I’ve never seen anything like it. Routinely do it and score off of them.

  74. Milo Hamilton says:

Somebody tell Ramon Foster you’re supposed to go inside – out on those blitzes. Pee wee stuff.

  75. Eric Bowser says:

    Pressure on QB (no surprise)

Ben not holding the ball safely (no surprise)

    Turnover.

  76. JohninOshkosh says:

Forte is a dangerous receiver in this offense. Steelers have to plan for that.

  77. Sarah says:

And they convert 3rd and 9 and then score

  78. Dom says:

    We stink!

  79. twentytwo22 says:

There’s the script for the last 19 regular season games. Offense turns the ball over and it’s an easy 7 points. That drive could have started at the Bears 1 and it wouldn’t have mattered.

  80. theplanisworking says:

    10-0.
Bets on the amount of points we score tonight?
Hint : I dont think it will amount to 10……………..

  81. Reading says:

Beating a dead horse: D has to bail out O sometimes. A turnover does not have to be an automatic 7 for the opponent.

  82. theplanisworking says:

Windows tablet commercial has it right………..

“Oh No, Here We Go Again”.

    :(

  83. JohninOshkosh says:

Steelers would do well to respond with points on this upcoming possession. Ben needs to take charge. Bears defense is decent but aging. Their d-backs can be exploited. Have to mind their ball stripping ability.

  84. Brandie says:

FIRE TOMLIN! FIRE HALEY! FIRE LEBEAU! FIRE THE ROONEYS!

  85. Brandie says:

    Aaliyah! Or Aleah!

Where is Donnie Iris when you need him?

  86. Barb says:

    THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  87. Milo Hamilton says:

Much like the Pirates bullpen, the over use of Zoltan Mesko will become an issue.

  88. JohninOshkosh says:

Ben needs to hit Sanders on that.

  89. Brandie says:

I know a thing or two about Afros! My parents have pictures of mine, at age 2, in an cafro and 70′s clothes in whatever couch pattern was fashionable at the time!

  90. Barb says:

I am so glad that I won’t have to endure the game next Sunday. I am going to Florida and don’t intend on watching a down.

  91. theplanisworking says:

Playing for his dinner at Mick’s fat city…………. ;)

  92. Eric Bowser says:

Rashard Mendenhall back on the team in a 23 jersey because that was quite some tip toeing going on… guess we still have Tiny Tim on the team.

Sanders…. maybe he should have taken the deal with the Patriots because he’s not getting paid on the first two plus games.

  93. J Walter Weatherman says:

This team is full on melt down mode.

  94. J Walter Weatherman says:

William Gay with one of the worst plays I’ve ever seen.

  95. Brandie says:

    Good luck with that.

  96. Hell Unleashed says:

You were kidding yourself if you expected anything more than a 3 and out.

  97. theplanisworking says:

    OMG!!!

Instead of making the tackle, Gay tries to punch it out, resulting in another 30 yards on the run.

    TACKLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  98. theplanisworking says:

    Enjoy Florida!

  99. Eric Bowser says:

Ryan Clark…. clearly sucks. So overrated with that constant head down tackling approach.

Can’t lie, I enjoy seeing him suck.

  100. Reading says:

    Getting ugly early.

  101. Barb says:

I will. I am going to the House of Mouse.

  102. theplanisworking says:

    Ugly plaid !!!

  103. Brandie says:

Steelers fans are spoiled!!!!!When is the last time we had to endure football of any kind?

  104. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah. Dejan was really in tune to that. I wasn’t sold on it. Thought their personnel was too intrinsically good.

This is just shocking to me. Bears have rookies on their line schooling the Steelers D.

  105. J Walter Weatherman says:

This is the worst team in the NFL. The Steelers. But the standard is still the standard.

  106. theplanisworking says:

I know a good bank for a second mortgage! ;)

  107. Brandie says:

William Gay is sucking so hard he is caving my head in!

  108. OZ says:

    Teddy Bridgewater?

  109. Brandie says:

Works well for modern hippies, especially when paired with polka dots or vertical stripes!

  110. J Walter Weatherman says:

You can just tell in their body language. A general malaise has overtaken them. No fire.

  111. Barb says:

Well I can’t watch the carnage so I’ll be signing off now. Have a good night!

  112. Rob says:

    Yeah, that was on Ben.

  113. Brandie says:

    Gotta fight Cleveland for that!

  114. Sarah says:

    Getting late early.

  115. Pat4Pgh says:

    What about accountabiliy for #7?

He is rapidly declining from good to medicore in terms of NFL quarterbacks.
It would be nice if he could run a play as it was designed, but one would need to read the playbook to execute the play!

  116. Brandie says:

Bye Bye! Sweet Dreams Bodacious One!

  117. Dom says:

Go 4 the field goal Chicago

  118. J Walter Weatherman says:

I think Cleveland proved today that they’re better than the Steelers. How did that happen?

  119. Pat4Pgh says:

Ben calls his own plays already and stinks at doing so!

  120. Brandie says:

    You can’t fix suck!

  121. Milo Hamilton says:

You’ve got to hand it to the Pirates & the Steelers for doing their part to alleviate the potential traffic issues today. How civic minded of them.

  122. Eric Bowser says:

Biggest game….. and Steelers are losing 17-0 in the FIRST quarter.

    They suck…

  123. DJ says:

Note to Haley: Please put Sanders back in the slot, not split wide out.

Note to Gay: Tackle. Don’t run 20 yds trying to punch ball out.

  124. Reading says:

    Yeah, that too.

  125. theplanisworking says:

    17-0. Unreal.

  126. J Walter Weatherman says:

Hmmm, I guess Heath wasn’t the reason the Steelers were losing.

  127. Brandie says:

    Note to Gay…

    GO AWAY!

  128. DJ says:

That was the second note, Brandie.

Just dealing with what I see on the field.

  129. DJ says:

I think we’ve had 7 plays on offense . . . or so it seems.

  130. Dom says:

I said 20-17 Steelers so since Chicago got their 17 points, I now just need the Steelers to get 20 consecutive points.

  131. theplanisworking says:

    hahaha.

    +1 :)

  132. J Walter Weatherman says:

That’s my point. It’s a time-wide issue. Not just the offense or one player.

  133. JohninOshkosh says:

    That’s the spirit, Dom! :)

  134. theplanisworking says:

    GO HIGH DRAFT PICKS !!!!

  135. Brandie says:

I have a bruise as I can feel the suck from here!

  136. DJ says:

Hmm . . . 20 points? That would be ten touchbacks on toes over the goal line, right?

  137. Brandie says:

    And there’s your silver lining!

  138. Milo Hamilton says:

There is nothing good here. Just pick someone and criticize them, and you’ll be right.

  139. Dom says:

Since Cleveland is trying to move up maybe we can obtain multiple picks in exchange.

  140. J Walter Weatherman says:

I swear, if they throw one more WR screen, I’ll throw my remote through the TV.

  141. Reading says:

Second largest 1st quarter home deficit ever according to TV. Apparently, the Eagles opened up a can on the Steelers in the first quarter in a 1965 game for a 17 point hole also.

  142. theplanisworking says:

    Gilbert benched !!!!

    Bout time !!

  143. Eric Bowser says:

…..and still can’t score a TD with Haley calling the plays.

What was that WR screen on 2nd down?

  144. Dom says:

Hey now we need just 8.5 touchbacks.

  145. JohninOshkosh says:

Does anyone know the forecast for where that Suck Air above the North Shore today is headed. Hope it’s going east.

    Good grief.

  146. Reading says:

FG for TD won’t get it done.

  147. Reading says:

Clowney or Johnny Football. Let the speculation begin.

  148. theplanisworking says:

    WE SCORED !!! WOW !!!

  149. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m going to the Pitt game next Saturday, I hope it’s gone by then.

  150. Brandie says:

    Chippin’ away!

  151. Eric Bowser says:

    Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews…..

  152. Dom says:

In my mind, the biggest disappointment has been the offensive line. It was intended on being the strong suit but has been a huge liability.

  153. Milo Hamilton says:

By the way, this defense stinks too.

  154. Rob says:

That spot just over the line has been killing this team.

  155. theplanisworking says:

    Clowney== overrated.
    Manziel=== headcase.

Jake Matthews would be a good choice.

  156. Dom says:

    KEISEL!!!

  157. pattonbb says:

    Kion Wilson and Jason Worilds.

This defense is still good, but not good enough to hide either of those two weaknesses.

  158. Brandie says:

Steelers are like a frustrated teenage male…can’t score big when it counts!

  159. Dom says:

Shamarko Thomas with the big hit on Cutler.

  160. J Walter Weatherman says:

Sorry to break it to you, but there are bigger weaknesses on the defense than those two guys. William Gay?

  161. JohninOshkosh says:

    Amen.

  162. Arriba Wilver says:

    Cutler needs to man up.

  163. J Walter Weatherman says:

Predictably, Cutler whines. Because he’s a whiner. Nobody likes Jay Cutler. Even in Chicago.

  164. Arriba Wilver says:

    TMI

  165. Reading says:

More like it. Need a few more defensive series like that.

  166. theplanisworking says:

Suck Air needs to go to Chicago and Wrigley to affect the Bucs opponents.
If it goes east, it will affect the Steelers in London.

  167. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  168. DJ says:

I had thought Arians got run out of town for that sin.

  169. theplanisworking says:

    Down Muppet…………………..

  170. theplanisworking says:

    Ballgame folks.
Dont forget to tip your valet parker.
    And, try the veal……………….

  171. Dom says:

    Who was he aiming for?

  172. Milo Hamilton says:

Kelvin Beachum replaced Marcus Gilbert at RT last series, and is replacing Mike Adams at LT on this one. They’re hoping the cloning process is complete by halftime.

  173. DJ says:

    Two tackles who play soft.

Not watching the tapes “Offensive Line Play: The Faneca Years.”

  174. Reading says:

Not exactly what we were looking for there.

  175. pattonbb says:

Clowney is only overrated if you think he’ll be Lawrence Taylor.

He’ll be a better pro than college player. Just like Osi Umenyiora, Cameron Wake, JJ Watt, and DeMarcus Ware.

  176. JohninOshkosh says:

I’ve rarely said this in my 47 years on this planet, but the Steelers stink. Just awful.

  177. Dom says:

    Not a fan of veal.

  178. Arriba Wilver says:

    Embarrassin’

  179. J Walter Weatherman says:

No player, no coach, and no front office person is safe after this season.

  180. Eric Bowser says:

Ben under pressure, bad throw…. INT for TD and it is 24-3 Bears….

  181. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Good one.

  182. DJ says:

I think that’s pretty much the definition of sending a message . . . or an SOS.

  183. Reading says:

Locke warming up on the sideline.

  184. Rob says:

Not to mention it looked like Cotchery ran a lazy route.

  185. pattonbb says:

    shambles.

  186. theplanisworking says:

Try anything you want……. meat, salads, tofu, doesnt matter.

  187. Reading says:

Lots of empty seats. Lots. Future tweet about an hour from now.

  188. JohninOshkosh says:

What is the difference between a Bears fan and a baby?
A baby will stop whining after awhile.

  189. Maybe after this game.

  190. Milo Hamilton says:

Now, Kelvin Beachum is in at QB. :)

  191. JohninOshkosh says:

    Nice.

  192. theplanisworking says:

Los Steelers chupan. This is in honor of Hispanic heritage month.

    That is all.

  193. Rob says:

Not let’s take out the one guy (Jones) who was actually playing decent

  194. theplanisworking says:

    Quick, check AJ’s twitter account!!!

  195. JohninOshkosh says:

Turning it to the Emmys now. Might as well watch some hot girls in nice dresses.

    Good night, Loonies.

  196. J Walter Weatherman says:

Let’s petition for Bob Nutting to buy the Steelers and NH to become GM.

    I’m kidding.

  197. DJ says:

As it stands, we’ll be drafting before them.

  198. Milo Hamilton says:

I can’t wait for postgame & all the crap about how it will be so good for them to get as far away from all this negativity as possible. On how London will be a bonding experience and blah blah blah. Just wait.

  199. Reading says:

There will be no Ben-Cutch “City of Champions” SI Cover in February.

  200. J Walter Weatherman says:

Which players will be cut after this season? I’ll start:

    Lamar Woodley

  201. Rob says:

    Ben’s throws are terrible!

  202. Reading says:

Got to get to 24-17 by half, says Mr. Glass half full.

  203. Dom says:

Too late for meat. A salad it is.

  204. Rob says:

    Except for that one.

  205. theplanisworking says:

    HOLY CRAP!!
    TOUCHDOWN !

  206. Dom says:

    Brown TD

  207. Eric Bowser says:

Ben threw it INTO…. INTO…. INTO…. the endzone.

  208. Reading says:

    We have a pulse.

  209. Dom says:

He he. That was supposed to be a reply to the disco hippo

  210. J Walter Weatherman says:

The Steelers are like a 95 year old on life support.

  211. Ghost says:

This one is over in the second quarter. Ben playing like crap. Not that it mattered. Not enough bullets in this team’s gun. This team hasn’t drafted well nor picked up key FA’s since Bill Cowher left Kevin Colbert to figure things out on his own. Dan should reassign Kevin and son Art to the mailroom.

And I’m actually not sure anymore what exactly it is that Mike Tomlin does…

  212. Eric Bowser says:

Sure would be a great time for a turnover

  213. theplanisworking says:

    Apple or Cherry?

  214. Nate83 says:

Defense has given up 141 total yards and somehow that has been turned into 24 points. Just unbelievable. You can’t turn the ball over. Especially if you have 1 sack on the year and no forced turnovers.

  215. Dom says:

Troy is moving around the field like superman or is it that superman moves like Troy. One of the two.

  216. Eric Bowser says:

    whoa… Dwyer just steamrolled Conte

  217. theplanisworking says:

And someone tell me why Dwyer is fourth on a 3 man depth chart????

  218. Arriba Wilver says:

    He cuts Dwyer, ;-)

  219. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Mike Adams is comically bad

  220. Milo Hamilton says:

    Plays too much ping pong.

  221. Hell Unleashed says:

Tomlin is the Applied Thesaurus Analyst.

  222. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  223. J Walter Weatherman says:

He is, without a doubt, better than Redman. Don’t know what Redman has done to gain the coaches favor so much, but it must’ve been something special.

  224. theplanisworking says:

    I prefer Samsung. ;)

  225. Ghost says:

Yes, but at Colbert’s behest. But you have a point: Tomlin handles chores for Kevin and Dan.

  226. Dom says:

We had a first round grade on him and he lost his side of the line to a guy we took in the seventh.

  227. theplanisworking says:

    Nice !!! :D

  228. Hell Unleashed says:

    iLike

  229. J Walter Weatherman says:

    21 yard punt. Nice.

  230. Milo Hamilton says:

I realize I’m reaching here, but the Marlins just tied up the Nationals in the 8th inning.

  231. Dom says:

That show with James Spader looks good.

  232. Rob says:

Okay, let’s go in at halftime and design an end around for Heath.

  233. Dom says:

No reach at all. Great news.

  234. Milo Hamilton says:

    … or Kelvin Beachum.

  235. Eric Bowser says:

Pathetic goings on between the Sabres and Leafs as goon and biggest waste of filth in John Scott went after Phil Kessel, which obviously turned the game into a line brawl.

The league will continue to be a joke on this front until they legislate this crap out of game.

  236. Reading says:

A Marlins sweep would be great- lowering the MN to 1- but would only show what might have been had the Pirates upheld their end of the bargain today.

  237. theplanisworking says:

On MLB Network, they have The Lyman Bostock Story on.

Very nice 1/2 hour program so far.

  238. DJ says:

This may sound bad because I think losing breeds a culture as well but I was hoping the Steelers finished 7-9 last year just to move up 6 or so picks in the draft. But Mike T did not want a losing record on his resume and so he refused to comply.

If we start out 0-3 and there’s zero hope, I hope we finish 2-14 rather 5-11. Better to have one god-awful year and then totally restock the cupboard with “Steelers mentality” players than reach on the Alameda Ta’amus and Chris Raineys of the world in the middle of the draft pack. Absolute waste picks.

I think Rainey was picked in deference to Haley who thought he was picking up another Jamaal Charles.

Then again, even 2-14 might be optimistic in a couple more weeks.

  239. defil21 says:

So much for Pouncey and his “recommendations” when it comes to the draft. TD to start the 3rd and were right back in this game.

    HERE WE GO!

  240. Dom says:

Since you brought up Pouncy, I realized that his replacement has been the best lineman so far thus season.

  241. Ghost says:

    It does, doesn’t it?!

  242. Milo Hamilton says:

I know how it ends, already depressed enough.

  243. DJ says:

Have you seen Redman? He’s huge and he’s cut like a Greek god.

Can he play football? Well, as I said, he’s huge and he’s cut.

“Cut” may be the operative word here.

  244. Rob says:

    So much for the TD

  245. Ghost says:

    Hah ha.

  246. Reading says:

    Well 31-10 is not insurmountable.

  247. Ghost says:

Alright, I’m beginning to behave like the trolls who come out whenever the Bucs have a bad night.
    But somehow… it’s therapeutic.

  248. defil21 says:

JFC. I agree Dom, so much for all those high draft picks. Beachum would be 2nd best and he’s a 7th rounder. We need to resign Max Starks ASAP. Adams blows.

  249. theplanisworking says:

    Bennett broke 5 “tackles”.
Defense is stooping to the level of the offense…………..

  250. Eric Bowser says:

    Impressive tackling….. not.

  251. Reading says:

I’m thinking that the real Steel Curtain doesn’t whiff four times on that shovel pass.

  252. DJ says:

Sorry, Max Starks signed with Saint Louie.

  253. OldSoldier21 says:

So, what happening lunatics. A great sports day in the burgh. A pennant race and NFL football! Is that losing thing getting to yinz? Just smile, unless you had money on the home teams…..

  254. Reading says:

My bad. 27-10. Just assumed …

  255. Nate83 says:

Cutler getting just 4.5 yards per attempt. Minus the 55 yarder by Forte the Bears have 25 yards on 15 carries. Somehow they have 27 points. The turnovers are just killing this team. When is the last time they recovered one of their fumbles. They seem to somehow lose them all.

  256. defil21 says:

:( dang it. I knew he was in for a workout didn’t know they signed him.

This teams has way too many turnovers, and doesn’t create ANY. Ballhawks? More like turnover machines. I miss Cowher.

  257. OldSoldier21 says:

Karma. Pure and simple. It is the Steelers turn to rebuild. Chuck Noll didn’t forget how to coach, his team got old. Just like this one did. Unfortunately, the poor cap management has made this a lot more painful…… Just this guys opinion.

  258. Reading says:

Haven’t noticed Miller on the field lately.

  259. Hell Unleashed says:

Can they go 0-16? Thankfully there are the Browns…the Steelers may be able to split with them.

  260. pattonbb says:

Remember back when Bruce Arians was the OC and we’d all whine that they were throwing the balll too much?

    Yea, those were good times.

  261. Milo Hamilton says:

Playing the role of Starling Marte.

  262. J Walter Weatherman says:

Arians would make very little difference with this team.

  263. Nate83 says:

It’s all turnovers. They have other issues but all teams have issues. You rarely win in the NFL when losing the turnover battle. Lose it by 2 it’s almost impossible. A -7 in turnovers will almost gaurentee you and 0-3 start.

  264. OldSoldier21 says:

Arians can’t block, kind of like our left tackle……

  265. Milo Hamilton says:

    Nats win.

  266. DJ says:

Check it. I think that he signed.

  267. DJ says:

I’ve noticed. He’s actually blocking really well.

  268. defil21 says:

    BOOOOO!!!

  269. defil21 says:

    You are correct Sir.

  270. Dom says:

Now, the question is who do we want to win in the cards / nats series.

  271. Rob says:

    Haven’t seen Wheaton either.

  272. defil21 says:

Good lord can we go to a hurry up/ no huddle offense? We were down 17 pts. not 7. That play to Heath should of been on 2nd down. Lets go dang it. How does Chicago have 27 pts. and Cutler has 90 passing yards, oh yeah 3 turnovers gave them 17 pts.

  273. Reading says:

Need the D to make something happen- strip sack, pick 6, three and out, QB sack- anything.

  274. Milo Hamilton says:

They blew the division when they got swept in St. Louis.

  275. OldSoldier21 says:

I think it is a good time for the Bucs to go on a 6 game winning streak. Can’t count on other teams to help you down the stretch……..

  276. Nate83 says:

Well if we sweep the Cubs we want the Nats to sweep the Cards. Nats need the Pirates or Reds to go 1-5 and run the table just to tie. Those are pretty steep odds.

  277. Hell Unleashed says:

Yeah B.A. should have never gone and retired on the Steelers like that, so selfish of him. I
really think he is the answer to the current suck riddle that is the state of this team.

  278. Nate83 says:

5 out of six would clinch the first wild card. 2 out of six would clinch playoff spot.

  279. WVStarship says:

The Cards better sweep or we’ll be watching the Nats and Reds in the wildcard game,

  280. Nate83 says:

Did somebody teach Gay how to play worse while he was gone?

  281. J Walter Weatherman says:

Or another bad defensive play by Gay.

  282. J Walter Weatherman says:

    He was this bad before.

  283. Nate83 says:

A sack. What the sack is going on?

  284. theplanisworking says:

He is wearing an oven mitt?

  285. Reading says:

One first down too late, but great job by D.

  286. Hell Unleashed says:

Not sure what is worse. The play of Willie Gay, or that the Steelers would bring him back after being rid of his sorry #@!

  287. OldSoldier21 says:

You mean, like a turn over? I seem to recall things like that, but it has been quite some time since I saw one with any regularity……..

  288. pattonbb says:

Hey Ike Taylor, you’re still down by 14.

A little less strutting and a little more pass coverage, please.

  289. Dom says:

He was so the Cardinals so that wouldn’t surprise me.

  290. Nate83 says:

Unless we have to beat the Nationals by 2 games to get the wild card spot this is mathamatically wrong. Why even root for the Pirates if you are expecting 6 straight losses?

  291. Reading says:

    Need TD not FG.

  292. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Holy … that was incredible.

  293. Eric Bowser says:

    What a catch by Brown

  294. Dom says:

Maybe the best touchdown I have ever seen.

  295. theplanisworking says:

HELLUVA CATCH EVEN IF IT GETS OVERTURNED!

    WOW !!

  296. defil21 says:

Dwyer’s blitz pick up’s have got us back in the game!

  297. OldSoldier21 says:

Very nice throw and catch if it stands!

  298. defil21 says:

    ITS GOOD!

  299. pattonbb says:

    catch of the year

  300. OldSoldier21 says:

The kick is good! Buckle up kids, this could be a bumpy ride……

  301. DJ says:

Michaels is the “Do you believe in miracles?” guy, right?

Maybe there’s a sliver of hope.

  302. Dom says:

    I never lost faith.

Anyone naive enough to buy that?

  303. OldSoldier21 says:

Ask and ye shall receive. Knock and the door will be opened!

  304. Milo Hamilton says:

Just checked the rules. It IS permissible for the guys in the black shirts to take the ball away from the ones in the white. Wasn’t clear on that. Can’t remember seeing it.

  305. Nancy52 says:

At 17-0 I knew my decision to watch Foyle’s War would be a good one.
This team/game reminds me of an 80s Thanksgiving game against
the Lions. Going to have lots of free time on Sundays!
    Good night.

  306. OldSoldier21 says:

I heard you have a bridge for sale, true?

  307. Dom says:

    Yup. That’s him.

  308. Hell Unleashed says:

    #2 after Santonio’s.

  309. J Walter Weatherman says:

There is one thing Gay is good at – getting run over. Happened a couple times this game. Remember that AP run a few years ago?

  310. OldSoldier21 says:

A 3 and out – just what the doctor ordered……

  311. Dom says:

    David Johnson!!!

  312. defil21 says:

    So that’s not stealing?

  313. Hell Unleashed says:

No, thrown out trying to steal a 1st down…

  314. Nate83 says:

This is definately getting interesting. I wish I was watching the game on TV instead of listening to the game on the radio at work.

  315. OldSoldier21 says:

    Ben – that’s not a sack of potatoes you’re carrying there……

  316. DJ says:

Ugh. Pump-faking in the pocket is one thing. On the move? Not good.

  317. DJ says:

    Sanchez in the dugout.

  318. OldSoldier21 says:

Good point. Let’s hope that sinks in down on the banks of the Allegheny…..

  319. J Walter Weatherman says:

This game starting to go badly for the Bears. Feel bad for Melton. He’s a good player and the Bears will definitely miss him.

  320. Milo Hamilton says:

I was at a game in the 80′s against the Bills that the Steelers fell behind 21-0 in the 1st half & they came back to win 30-24 behind Scotty Campbell.

  321. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Great effort by Cotchery!!!

  322. OldSoldier21 says:

    FIRST DOWN!

  323. OldSoldier21 says:

Gotta stay out of these 3rd and longs – thins the play book

  324. OldSoldier21 says:

Field goal is good! Bad guys 27 – B&G 23.

  325. J Walter Weatherman says:

The sloppy 1st down throw put them in that tough position. Common theme for BB this year.

  326. Milo Hamilton says:

21 is the team record. Also 21 points down at Baltimore in 1997. Pretty sure that’s the day Cowher kissed Kordell on the sidelines.

  327. OldSoldier21 says:

Followed by a running play that went no where, Also common this season…..

  328. Milo Hamilton says:

    That takeaway thingy ?

  329. Hell Unleashed says:

Amazing that they have scored 23 points without turnovers or a big special teams play.

  330. Dom says:

    I’ve been there.

I was working at a hotel during the A F C championship game prior to super bowl 40. My coworkers were watching the game at the bar while I was stuck at the front desk. I heard a commotion which turned out to be Jerome’ s fumble. I wanted to check out what was going on but I was stuck checking in an ignorant couple who asked me 100 questions. When I finally got to the TV the Colts had just missed their field goal.

May I ask what you do for a living?

  331. Reading says:

Brewers beat Cards 6-4. Pirates dodge another bullet.

  332. DJ says:

Did not like the second down call.

More than anything, Haley is just not in a rhythm.

  333. Nate83 says:

Timmons having a really good game.

  334. Milo Hamilton says:

Time for this awful defense to come up small.

  335. OldSoldier21 says:

    Nobody had contain?

  336. Arriba Wilver says:

The good news is Breaking Bad won the Emmy for best drama series.

  337. Dom says:

    Big stop by Gay.

  338. Dom says:

So did the Colbert report. They were due.

  339. Milo Hamilton says:

    Like right there.

  340. pattonbb says:

    Ike Taylor

  341. J Walter Weatherman says:

Ike – always in perfect position. Never can make a play.

  342. OldSoldier21 says:

3rd and 12 and they complete a pass for about 40 yards, sheesh……

  343. Dom says:

This drive is eating a lot of time

  344. Reading says:

Come on D! Clock is wasting away.

  345. Milo Hamilton says:

Defense in this NFL is predicated on harassing the quarterback and taking the ball away. The Steelers do neither.

  346. J Walter Weatherman says:

    That’s a TD. Ballgame.

  347. Rob says:

    That’s a touchdown

  348. Dom says:

That looks like a touchdown to me.

  349. pattonbb says:

    nah, didn’t have possession.

  350. Reading says:

    Dude was in. Not good.

  351. OldSoldier21 says:

No worries – this review stopped the clock. :(

  352. pattonbb says:

    Ball was moving.

  353. J Walter Weatherman says:

I feel very strongly that the Steelers will turn it over on the next possession, which gives greater attention to a large problem on the team. TO differential.

  354. Milo Hamilton says:

Regardless, the defense needs to make a play. They never ever do.

  355. theplanisworking says:

Well, on the way to high draft picks.

At least they didnt get shut out.

    When does hockey start?

  356. J Walter Weatherman says:

Last week, I gave the over/under of Week 7 for Steelers first forced TO. Still going with the over.

  357. Milo Hamilton says:

You’re right about that. It’s hard to be a plus when you never force any.

  358. Hell Unleashed says:

If only he knew what to do with those stone appendage of digits.

  359. OldSoldier21 says:

Yep – gave up first downs on 2 consecutive 3rd and longs….. Gotta get off the field in those situations.

  360. Nate83 says:

They haven’t in the last three years. It just seems like every 4th quarter they can’t get off the field on third down. It’s like going to sleep every night knowing you are going to have the same exact nightmare.

  361. defil21 says:

3 turnovers = 17 Chicago pts. Dang it. If Shark was 5 ’10″ he makes that play.

  362. Milo Hamilton says:

That’s ZERO takeaways and three sacks. All season. Combined.

  363. defil21 says:

    Oct 3 against NJ.

  364. DJ says:

    Week from Thursday.

Way things are going in Pgh, let’s hope for no pucks to the face on Sid.

  365. OldSoldier21 says:

The preseason last until the end of April 2014, then the real season starts……

  366. Hell Unleashed says:

House of Cards should win it next year. Awesome show.

  367. Dom says:

    Three turnovers by Ben.

  368. OldSoldier21 says:

    Related to Nostradamus?

  369. Nate83 says:

Wow if that doesn’t define the season so far nothing does.

  370. Reading says:

Bears D making the impact plays the Steelers D used to make.

  371. J Walter Weatherman says:

Maybe I should try the lottery?

  372. Dom says:

Redman missed the block. Why was he in the game?

  373. theplanisworking says:

    Steelers trying to out-embarrass themselves.

    O stinks. D stinks.

Haley, and about 25 players should be fired tonight.

London now gets the honor of this team.
    God help London………….

  374. defil21 says:

I’ve told my friend this going on a few years now SB XLIII was when Ben peaked.

  375. J Walter Weatherman says:

BB is not the QB to rebuild around. It’s almost unfathomable to think, but he may be one of the big changes in the offseason.

  376. Dom says:

I was thinking the same about Thomas.

  377. defil21 says:

    4 = 24

  378. Hell Unleashed says:

Lordy, Lordy…da’ Bears score 40. What a debacle. Turn back over Myron, the Steelers will be back in a couple years.

  379. theplanisworking says:

    Because Tomlin hates Dwyer………………..

  380. defil21 says:

    Agree 100%

  381. OldSoldier21 says:

It’s like Bill Murray in Ground Hog day. Redundant, redundant, redundant……

  382. J Walter Weatherman says:

This is correct. He may have played himself out of the Hall of Fame. Looked surefire at that point, but has regressed since then.

  383. Milo Hamilton says:

He lets Tomlin beat him at ping pong.

  384. Dom says:

    No chance that happens.

  385. Nate83 says:

Well at least nobody else in our division won today. Wait a minute. They all did. Not a good day unless your a fan of small victories like the offense putting up 400 yards of offense. They need splash plays. I don’t know what they need to do to get those but they have to figure it out quickly.

  386. DJ says:

London’s Calling is great song by The Clash.

Unfortunately the answer for the Steelers is 0-4.

  387. Milo Hamilton says:

The Browns think the Steelers should trade Ben.

  388. defil21 says:

So we get embarrassed on Monday Night, check.

We get embarrassed on Sunday Night, check.

Now we have to get embarrassed Internationally. Especially since the Browns beat the Vikes. Where’s the booze???

  389. Hell Unleashed says:

Revoke their passports so they can not return from London.

  390. J Walter Weatherman says:

Doesn’t mean it might not be the best move.

  391. OldSoldier21 says:

I think it may be time to shake up the front office. Colbert + Tomlin < Colbert + Cowher….

  392. Milo Hamilton says:

Watch Emmanuel Sanders score the Bobby Bonilla / Kevin Young touchdown.

  393. defil21 says:

He may want out brother. If they don’t extend him, or he doesn’t agree to an extension he might have no choice his cap hit is almost $18 mil next year.

  394. Dom says:

Is it just me but does anyone else think the announcers were biased in our favor.

  395. Dom says:

    ANOTHER miss by sanders

  396. Eric Bowser says:

surprise…. Sanders fails to catch the ball.

  397. Nate83 says:

400 yards total offense doesn’t seem to be Haley’s fault. The O-line is just not that good. Offensive coordinator can’t be blamed for all the fumbles.

  398. Hell Unleashed says:

    Elite to smellite.

  399. DJ says:

. . . it was Siri telling Ben.

  400. OldSoldier21 says:

    Drive home safely folks.

  401. J Walter Weatherman says:

Tomlin looks like a guy who knows exactly what to do to turn this thing around.

  402. Ghost says:

I’m back. I see the Steelers teased us a little, but they didn’t really mean it. It’s ending up like we knew it would all along.

  403. Dom says:

I really wish we would have let the patriots take him off our hands in exchange of their 3rd rounder.

  404. twentytwo22 says:

Dwyer ran for a first down. He must’ve tapped out.

  405. Reading says:

T.o. #5 nullified by fact that Bears are out of challenges.

  406. Milo Hamilton says:

    Leave the country ?

  407. WVStarship says:

    Quit?

  408. theplanisworking says:

Haley should be fired for his entire body of work, not just one game.

His entire body of work has been awful.

  409. Nate83 says:

A little league coach could figure it out. Don’t turn the ball over and force turnovers. Convert on third down on offence and get off the field on third down on defense. The Steelers ability to do those two things will decide exactly how bad this year will be.

  410. twentytwo22 says:

4th qtr magic from Ben to get that FG that made it 27-23 Chicago.

  411. Ghost says:

They actually did have splash plays. Brown and Dwyer had their share. Problem is, Ben also had three. Three turnovers leading to Bears points.

  412. J Walter Weatherman says:

The correct answer is to play Redman more

  413. Reading says:

    Trestman rocking the Halas glasses.

  414. defil21 says:

Heck yes we should have, though Colbert has had way more misses in the drafts since Cowher left. Asking Pouncey about Gilbert and Rainey, hello isn’t that why you have a scouting department. I have buddies too but I wouldn’t recommend them for a lot of things.

  415. twentytwo22 says:

    That timeout was bush league.

  416. Reading says:

Browns interested in trading accumulated draft picks for Ben.

  417. J Walter Weatherman says:

That AB hit was bush league

  418. defil21 says:

Out coached, Out muscled, and out classed. Oh well get em next week boys. If we could make it through a full game without a turnover from the offense we might actually win a game.

  419. WVStarship says:

If it’s 2 first rounders, deal.

  420. Ghost says:

    ++
In fact, you had me at, “Where’s the booze?”

  421. Reading says:

That ball thrown to an open area occupied by a white shirt.

  422. Hell Unleashed says:

1st win will come (for the fans) during the bye week…

  423. WVStarship says:

They don’t play next week. It’ll easily be their best performance of the year.

  424. Milo Hamilton says:

So, the Steelers season is over before the Pirates. Ouch.

  425. Nate83 says:

It’s usually the Pirates season being over before the Penguins.

  426. DJ says:

    I’ll just reiterate my 10:09 p.m. post.

Say Goodbye to Hollywood for the Steelers.

Couldn’t resist the Billy Joel reference after London Calling.

  427. defil21 says:

Well we might be on the clock or right after JVille, but enjoy them folks. This probably will be the last year for a lot of our vets. Diesel, Troy, Clark, maybe Ike.

  428. Milo Hamilton says:

Or the Pirates being done before Steelers camp.

  429. Reading says:

“This is an unacceptable result. The men wearing the black and gold recognize these shortcomings. No fish n’ chips in England.” Potential Post-game presser.

  430. DJ says:

Heard the Steelers just had another team meeting of the vets.

No Cribbage for players 4 years and younger in London.

  431. theplanisworking says:

Another players-only meeting was just held.

No more checkers, or books in the locker room.

And the only video game allowed is Nintendo’s Animal farm………………

    GO HIGH DRAFT PICKS !!!!!

  432. Ghost says:

I’d say, “time to run the Jolly Roger up the flagpole at Heinz Field,” but probably not even that would help.

  433. Wild Bill says:

For me, this game came down to: Chicago qb better than Steeler qb under duress tonight.

  434. Ghost says:

I didn’t really see Cutler put under too much duress, tonight. Ben did stink tonight, though.

  435. DJ says:

London next week and bye the week after that.

But that’s okay, there will be no need to watch.

  436. DJ says:

0-3 Vikings against 0-3 Steelers in London next week.

I wonder if Ben will tweet about the number of Brits who don’t show up.

  437. Wild Bill says:

Hi Ghost. Was referring to Cutler stepping up, evading the rushes, running for a first down once, and not turning the ball over.

  438. WVStarship says:

    I stand corrected.

And I’ll be traveling next week, so I won’t be watching. Lucky me.

  439. Wild Bill says:

Betcha Penn State vs Central Fla. next year in Dublin out draws them big time.

  440. DJ says:

I am sure they will give the pros a run for their money, WB.

  441. theplanisworking says:

The NFL game in Wembly sells out 90,000 every year, regardless who the teams are.

Penn state game will be lucky to get 75,000.

  442. Ghost says:

That scramble for a first down with the head first finish into William Gay was big, indeed.

  443. Kevnj says:

Am I the only one who is amazed Felix Jones disappeared? Best back on the team. 1 turn over Ben had 3.

  444. DJ says:

The question is how many will be in the stadium versus the pubs, either at game time or by halftime.

  445. Wild Bill says:

Ah, but how many will actually show up, my truly hip(po) friend?

  446. Wild Bill says:

Thought he looked good running, not as good blocking, Kev.

  447. DJ says:

Missed an obvious pick up of a LB blitz early. Did not see him after that.

Tomlin doing a lot of “message sending” tonight.

  448. Wild Bill says:

Loved seeing Heath Miller playing again, almost as much as Ben did.

  449. theplanisworking says:

I watched last years Wembly game.
Fans show up 3 hours early…….. do the soccer chant thing.
They stay til the end of the game, and there is some ceremony in the crowd.
Truly different than the crowds in the states.

  450. theplanisworking says:

    Wenbly game will sell out.
And, they will all show up.

  451. Wild Bill says:

Sounds cool, and I hope we get a win!

  452. Wild Bill says:

If so, the NFL is going to have to consider expanding someday, maybe to London and LA.

  453. theplanisworking says:

London expansion was discussed last year.
Its coming sooner than you think. ;)
