  1. Nate83 says:

Same line up again today. It looks like this will be the 8 playing on Tuesday.

  2. Arriba Wilver says:

Don’t usually comment on the lineups, but Barmes with Ground Chuck makes a lot of sense.

  3. This lineup only squeezed out 6 hits last night, and Byrd had 3 of the 6, but they made ‘em count.

Pedro’s should have counted for 2.

I believe they can nail Bronson.

  4. Arriba Wilver says:

Morneau has to break out sometime, right?

  5. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Line
Total INNINGS PITCHED by Charlie Morton in today’s game
    Line is 6.75

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  6. Nate83 says:

If he hits one on Tuesday I’m happy. Obviously he hasn’t gotten many hits that have driven runs in but he has walked a ton to keep rallies going and has moved Walker or Cutch up on the basepaths. It hasn’t resulted in RBI’s but he has been productive in other ways including defense.

  7. Zico says:

If you’re an optimist, yes. If you’re a realist, no. I prefer the former over the latter.

  8. Nate83 says:

    100 on the over.

  9. Thundercrack says:

He’s been a dud so far. But I wonder if we’d be getting the same offensive production from Jones if he was getting most of the playing time at first.

Morneau has been pretty solid in the field.
I was talking with a Twins fan the other day and he said that Morneau is the best fielding first baseman that the Pirates have had in a long time. My response was that Adam LaRoche was pretty good too, and that I thought from what I’ve seen out of both of them Gabby Sanchez seems to be just as good as Moreau in the field.

  10. War Horse says:

Shortly after the Cardinals clinched the Division title yesterday, a reporter asked their starter Lance Lynn (15-10, 3.97 ERA) what he thought. “We wanted to win the Central,” said Lynn. “We had to face that Wild Card Game last year, and it’s not a fun game to be a part of. You have two good teams that are deserving of being in the playoffs in that Wild Card Game and only one wins. We didn’t want to be a part of that.”
Who could blame any of the Cardinals for thinking that as they went into August and September? They had the experience of last year’s WC fight. If the inexperienced Pirates had won a few more games in August and September, they might have made it where the Cardinals finished. But that’s water under the bridges.
I fear that failure to get past Cincinnati–today, tomorrow and Tuesday–will end up being our last chance for longer than we may suspect. The team is as strong as any in the NL, but it is not likely to be as strong and talented next year. We are not likely to have Byrd, Morneau, A.J. and some of the others who make this such a strong team back again.

  11. War Horse says:

    100 on the UNDER, please.

  12. I would hope they go after Byrd and Neal already said they will make every effort to get A.J. back, for what that’s worth.

I like Morneau, but he’s kind of like Iginla was for the Pens. It was great to have him, but he probably won’t be back.

Would have been better to have the Morneau from a few years back, but that’s the understatement of the season. Do like that glove he brings.

  13. bradthedad says:

I agree, AW. He doesn’t apear ‘lost’ at the plate (the favored term when someone is scuffling like Jones) and almost always seems to be right on the pitch. Stats can’t prove it but my view is he’s been hitting the ball fairly hard and making loud outs.

  14. Nate83 says:

I do as well. I was simply saying he has done other things well. Martin batting over .200 since the trade would help make Morneau’s walks and moving base runners up more valuable. Pedro hitting a little better as well would help.

  15. Arriba Wilver says:

    Clint’s been saying that, too.

  16. bradthedad says:

    Ha! Not going there.

  17. Thundercrack says:

What does Clint know? He has 68 losses

  18. Jim S. says:

    One would think, Arriba.

  19. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m no expert, and I like Gaby in the field, too, but I agree with the guy from Minnesota. He’s been at least as good as Adam, and maybe better. No way to know for sure, but I don’t think Gaby or Adam make all those plays he made in Chicago. And I think Adam was even better than Gaby. Some of those were just baseball smarts and instinct.

  20. Jim S. says:

Can someone please decipher this post-game quote from Dusty Baker for me?

“This team knows how to come back. This team won 2 out of 3 games here vs. this team earlier. Now, all we have to do is win 2 out of 3 in the last 2 games of this series.”

  21. Arriba Wilver says:

Ha to both of you. ;-)

  22. Arriba Wilver says:

    Toothpick got in the way?

  23. If there’s a fork in the road, take it.

  24. Jim S. says:

The future can be very bright, War. And I believe it will. The pipeline is literally loading up with talented pitching. I know they won’t all pan out, but some surely will. The last few drafts appear to have been phenomenal. Just last week it was announced that our 2 first round draft picks were selected as the #1 and #3 prospects in the GCL after this year. And closer to Pittsburgh the talent is pretty good also. Gregory Polanco should arrive next season at some point, and he could be very good. I believe this organization knows what it is doing now, after wandering in the wilderness for 2 decades.

As for the losses next season, Morneau is not a big deal. AJ may or may not re-sign, but I believe he will. Wandy could very well be ready for spring training. Marlon Byrd, I believe, will sign elsewhere. But, there are similar veteran OF available each year, and Huntington has proven he can find starting pitchers. Cutch is still improving, as are Marte, Mercer and Pedro. Cole will only get more dominant. I’m really not seeing the pessimism. For once, this franchise is on sound footing in my opinion. Even if they slip back a bit, as you say, there is no reason to think they won’t content again often in the forseeable future.

  25. Jim S. says:

Maybe just a long, frustrating night for him. But, he really did not sound cogent there at all.

  26. bman says:

    50 on the UNDER

  27. Leo Walter says:

War Horse : don’t know much about the orginization or the prospects on their way,do you ?

  28. Leo Walter says:

I don’t know if it was the toothpick Arriba,or the fact he couldn’t get Hamilton or Chapman in the game that kind of knocked Dust Pan off stride.

  29. Thundercrack says:

I am surprised more people don’t agree with me about Gabby’s fielding.

  30. cmat0829 says:

Morneau > Gaby >>>>>>>> Jones in terms of fielding.

  31. Arriba Wilver says:

I agree he’s decent, I just think he’s being compared to Jones, who isn’t. He’s fine, to me, but he’s not Adam or Justin. JMO

  32. cmat0829 says:

    100 over.

  33. cmat0829 says:

  34. cmat0829 says:

Don’t think anyone has accused Sir Dusty as being a member of Mensa… does anyone read Reds blogs? Do they roast him for his game management, lineups, etc. as we do Clint at times?

  35. cmat0829 says:

RIGHT ON THE MONEY JIM. UPSIDE> DOWNSIDE at the moment for this organization.

  36. bizrow says:

I think Ground Chuck steps up once again today

    100 on the OVER

    Thanks Playoffs

    Beat Em Bucs

  37. cmat0829 says:

guys , dont forget the Jones we saw, day in and day out, through August…and we all agreed it was time for someone, anyone, new at 1B. And we know Gaby vs RHPs is not the answer.

We got Morneau for a reason, to play 1B everyday and we have got to stick with it.. he doesnt have to bat 4th but thats a different topic. If/when he gets into a hot streak, he can boost this offense a ton. let’s hope its coming

  38. JRay3 says:

    75 on the OVER

    Thanks and Go Bucs!

  39. theplanisworking says:

    here is the deciphering……………

    Y’all are racists.
    I am pissed.

    Watch out.
    Maybe I will bean myself!

  40. Arriba Wilver says:

Much as I hate to, I’m going to go with the UNDER for 100.

Several tough lefties in the lineup.

    Hope I lose 100.

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

There has to be a “dude” in there somewhere.

    “I don’t know, dude…”

  42. Lad 9 says:

100 on the over please. Thank you Mr Playoffs. Go Buccos!

  43. Lad 9 says:

You should be fine AW. Both Biz and I went for the over. The last time I got one right, the Dead Sea just had a case of the sniffles….

  44. Lad 9 says:

Agree Jm. I am very bullish on the future of this team. I think there is some chance of resigning Byrd though. He seems to really like it here and if we can make a competitive offer I believe he will take it.

  45. Bill Born says:

    100 units under

  46. 21sthebest says:

That’s where I am as well. I can recall one or two mental mistakes from Gaby in the field this year.

  47. 21sthebest says:

Quietly, Pedro has cut way down on his fielding errors. 2 errors in 25 games in September and 3 errors in his last 40 games.

Also, a rare outburst of emotion as he approached the dugout after his bomb last night. Loved it!

  48. Patrick(ri) says:

If the Padres are right, they are betting on Arroyo baffling us with junk and lots of curves. Hope we are patient.

  49. Patrick(ri) says:

How many wo Morneau at first?

  50. 21sthebest says:

Well the pre September games would be without Morneau at first.

  51. Patrick(ri) says:

  52. Thundercrack says:

Did McCarver just say that Phillips is the best fielding second baseman he’s ever seen!?

I hope someone tells Walk & Wehner that he said that

  53. Irish says:

Oooh, I have to go Under for 50.
    Hope I’m wrong.
    Let’s Go Bucs!

  54. Patrick(ri) says:

A tale of woe: I cannot watch this game anywhere since Fox has determined I should see Tamp Bay and Cleveland! Thank goodness for the blog.

  55. 21sthebest says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this but this guy is making me miss the other Tim.

  56. Patrick(ri) says:

TB & Toronto . . . All these AL teams look alike to me.

  57. JRay3 says:

Morton wiggles out of it and escapes the first, big to get Frazier in that situation.

  58. Arriba Wilver says:

Maybe it’s his way of dissing Morgan.

  59. Lad 9 says:

    He did say it. SMH….

  60. Barb says:

Oh lord, I don’t know who is worse Tim McCarver or Thommmmm Brennaman. Sheesh.

  61. Steve J. Smith says:

These FOX idiots are basically trying to will the Reds to a win today. When we forced Votto at second last inning, they were trying to say he made Barmes move his feet and took him out of the play. Meanwhile, it was a slowly hit ball with Phillips running, Barmes was being smart and not throwing it to have something go wrong and lead to the run scoring. Go Bucs!

  62. Mrevo says:

If there is a god, Mc Carver will be sticken with laryngitis for the next couple of hours.

  63. florida steeler says:

Why is Barmes in the lineup???

  64. Barb says:

Because after all you have no interest whatsoever in the most important wildcard game to be played.

  65. Barb says:

Oh I’m really interested in what Matt Latos has to say.

  66. Mrevo says:

Interview with the cry baby Latos, I’ve just turned the sound off.

  67. 21sthebest says:

Gotta start swinging at some of these first pitch meatballs.

  68. 21sthebest says:

    Boom boom!

  69. Thundercrack says:

The other Tim would have butchered those two home run calls

    Still miss him? :-)

  70. JRay3 says:

Back to Back- Walkerand Cutch both go deep towards center off Arroyo and Buccos take 2-0 lead!

Walker seems to have found his power stroke in month of Sept. and Cutch is sewing up the MVP award.

  71. Lad 9 says:

I bend over backward not to be provincial and DK’s proverbial thin skinned Pirate fan. I really do. But these clowns were not even talking about the Pirates until those home runs. Awful.

  72. theplanisworking says:

Where is Deion Sanders when you need him?

  73. Steve J. Smith says:

Neil and Cuth did and it is 2-0!

  74. Steve J. Smith says:

    Should be Cutch.

  75. Thundercrack says:

I think the Steelers should be looking at John Buck = offensive lineman

  76. tdb1977 says:

Time for some Byrd power. If not, put another duck on the pond for Pedro.

  77. 21sthebest says:

You didn’t enjoy the discussion about the play Ghost?

  78. Steve J. Smith says:

Carver just said that Byrd was traded to the Reds. What an idiot. He needs to retire.

  79. radio wave says:

Reds believe that Cole is a wild card because they have not seen him this year. Would rather face him tomorrow then Tuesday.

  80. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m more interested in what sunflowers seeds he’s eating . . . During the middle of the interview.

  81. Arriba Wilver says:

    You’re joking, right?

  82. Thundercrack says:

I hate Sanders for what he did that night.

I wonder if he ever apologized

  83. Arriba Wilver says:

  84. Thundercrack says:

Choo doesn’t really try to get out of the way of any of those pitches

  85. 21sthebest says:

Apparently not agreeing with McCarver means you don’t understand the game.

  86. theplanisworking says:

I think we both know he didnt.

But, Deion did find God, so maybe he did it through one of his books?

  87. 21sthebest says:

    Hit 26 times.

  88. Arriba Wilver says:

  89. Thundercrack says:

Where is that Range Resources pitch locator when you need it. Looks like Charlie is being squeezed at times.

  90. Arriba Wilver says:

Hate when we give the run(s) right back.

  91. 21sthebest says:

    3 or 4 times

  92. Playoffs by 2012 says:

THIS…is the Charlie Morton we all know and love.

  93. florida steeler says:

How long is he left in game?? three walks already

  94. Steve J. Smith says:

    Morton blows!

  95. Arriba Wilver says:

  96. Patrick(ri) says:

    J. wehner says Cutch “miised everybody” and should have able to get Phillips if he had hit any cutoff player. True? Irritating not to see these plays.

  97. Thundercrack says:

Clint should have taken Morton out 4 innings ago

  98. Thundercrack says:

The Fox announcers never brought that point up

  99. 21sthebest says:

  100. 21sthebest says:

I thought he should have come out right before he hit Choo.

  101. florida steeler says:

I am not joking. The guy is hitting .212. preceded by a guy hitting .235, followed by the pitcher. Odds are, you are giving three almost certain outs in the lineup. Defense does not score runs!!!!!

  102. 21sthebest says:

    First pitch to Petey! :-)

  103. BDHumbert says:

Great American is a good place for Home Run Derby!

  104. tdb1977 says:

Has Pedro’s blast landed yet? What a monster blast.

  105. JRay3 says:

RBI #100 on an absolute blast by Pedro who hits his 36th HR of year and second in series, tie game!

  106. Thundercrack says:

I am really surprised Pedro didn’t dance across home plate & back to the dugout like Phillips did last inning

  107. Thundercrack says:

That looked like a batting practice pitch to Pedro.
    He didn’t miss it

  108. Arriba Wilver says:

Hard to say from the broadcast, but Phillips was about 5 feet behind Votto. I was thinking it was too bad Marte didn’t get the throw, but don’t know if it would have made any difference. Cutch got it immediately off the wall.

  109. 21sthebest says:

    Cutch too.

  110. Arriba Wilver says:

And Pedro with another nice defensive play.

  111. Chuck H says:

Why in the H— is the major league’s top auto out in the Pirate lineup and Jordy is on
    the bench?

  112. Thundercrack says:

I would like to see how much production Pence will give for $18 million per year during year 4 & 5 of his new deal.

  113. Arriba Wilver says:

5 years and 90 million for Pence to stay with the Giants,

  114. Arriba Wilver says:

    Because he’s better defensively,

  115. florida steeler says:

Barmes hitting .212, Martin .225, batting before him and then, the pitcher. What are the odds those are three outs?? Defense doesn’t score runs!!!

  116. Steve J. Smith says:

    PRNW!!! 4-3 Buccos!

  117. Thundercrack says:

I wonder if Reds fans are saying Dusty should have taken Aroyo out after Perdro’s homer…or after the first one by Walker

  118. Patrick(ri) says:

    Thanks, AW

  119. Thundercrack says:

It can prevent them from being scored

  120. 21sthebest says:

Justin keeps fouling off very hittable pitches.

  121. Patrick(ri) says:

Gotta keepmthis lead which will nail Chapman to the bullpen bench!

    How about Byrd for MVP???

  122. JRay3 says:

Byrd with Bucs fifth HR of day as Bucs chase another Red starter early…6-3 good guys!

  123. tdb1977 says:

Its nice to see the long ball is working today for the good guys. And I agree, this will keep Chapman in the bull pen all day long, unless toothpick decides to bring him in to throw at someone to try to turn the tables in this one.

  124. JRay3 says:

Hey Phillips – I guess Byrd did those pushups last night after win!

In reference to Brandon gabbing at Byrd yesterday after double off wall.

  125. Patrick(ri) says:

Damn. Of all the games to be blacked out! I just have to pretend I am out in the Hudson with my ear to the radio.

  126. Patrick(ri) says:

  127. florida steeler says:

Is it time to drop him below Byrd and Pedro?? He has 0 home runs and 3 rbi’s

  128. Patrick(ri) says:

What do you suppose he said as he trotted by?

  129. florida steeler says:

And, when has Barmes done that??? Martin–yes; Barmes–none that I remember.

  130. JRay3 says:

    See you in Pittsburgh!

  131. Patrick(ri) says:

Btw, fellow paranoids, Fox has not shown a single highlight from the Reds/Pirates game on the TB/ Toronto game.

  132. 21sthebest says:

How much time does Phillips get?

  133. tdb1977 says:

  134. florida steeler says:

83 pitches, four walks through 4 innings–how long does Hurdle allow this nonsense to continue??

  135. Patrick(ri) says:

Wehner is really ripping Phillips . . .”he’ll probably crawl back to the dugout .”

  136. Tom P. says:

I just came in from mowing the grass to find out that I am getting the Toronto – Tampa Bay game too. To paraphrase Thom Brennaman, that really sucks.

  137. Steve J. Smith says:

Morton is just trying to screw this up. Bases loaded and one out.

  138. 21sthebest says:

Have Tweedledum and Tweedledum mentioned that anyone was throwing?

  139. Patrick(ri) says:

Yup. Tim said of Morton, “certainly not his best stuff.” Trenchant. (pirate tweedles).

  140. Mrevo says:

I noticed this at the game last Saturday. After Phillips struck out he took about 2 minutes to walk back to the dugout, just gave us more time to boo him.

  141. JRay3 says:

What a job by Mazzaro to come in with bases loaded and get punch out, fly out to retire Reds without allowing a run. Half way home.

  142. Patrick(ri) says:

+++++. I share your pain. Sure hope contracts are altered in the future. I have probably watched 150+ games this year, and I am not allowed to watch the most important one, so far.

  143. Steelag70 says:

    The Big Italian!!

  144. 21sthebest says:

I meant if anyone was getting ready in the bullpen.

  145. The Gunner says:

We all know Morton’s pattern so there should be no surprise at his performance today. Thank God that (1) the offense is clicking today and (2) Clint got Charlie out of the game before Stinkcinnati scored more runs.

  146. Patrick(ri) says:

Tim seemed surprised when Clint came out of the dugout, and was not sure who would be ready.

  147. Patrick(ri) says:

He just said Justin Wilson is warming up.

  148. BDHumbert says:

Had to get Lambo an at bat today – ball is flying out of the park…

Glad for him – if you don’t know his story you should Google it…

  149. JRay3 says:

Lambo gets into act with first career HR, Bucs 6th of day and Pirates bats making statement…7-3 Buccos!

  150. Steve J. Smith says:

Lambo joins in the HR parade. 7-3!

  151. Steelag70 says:

    Congrats Lambo….

  152. BDHumbert says:

When was the last time the Bucs had six homers in a game…

Seemed like there were weeks this year when they did not have six…

  153. Thundercrack says:

    Very happy for Lambo.

Took him about 7 seconds to round the bases.

  154. 21sthebest says:

I wonder if the dream announcing team noticed the homerun yet?

  155. Baywatch says:

“Free at last! Free at last! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, Lambo is FREE at last!” Up here, everybody! Wooooooooo-HOO!

  156. diehard says:

If the Pirates go on to win today, the pitcher everyone seems to love to hate – Vin “The Win Vulture” Mazzaro – will improve to 8-2 with a 2.81 ERA for the season. He’s had a couple of dud’s, but Vin has actually been pretty solid.

  157. Baywatch says:

LOL! He’ll learn to take the trot somewhere between a Brandon Phillips and a Professional!

  158. Baywatch says:

“The Win Vulture!” Diehard, did you COIN that?

  159. Thundercrack says:

    Who hate VM?

  160. Steelag70 says:

  161. Zico says:

I was replying to AW, as I hadn’t seen your reply yet Nate. Your opinions are valid :)

  162. The Gunner says:

I think it took Lambo less than 7 seconds to round the bases, TC. I wonder if he might be an option @ 1B in 2014?

  163. BDHumbert says:

I think he makes the playoff roster off of today – audition for a slot?

  164. BDHumbert says:

    Wilson is hurting his chances…

    Needs to put Votto away….

  165. Thundercrack says:

McCarver called Wilson one of the best left handed arms in the game of baseball.

  166. Thundercrack says:

    I would say no.

Look up when the last time he played first

  167. Patrick(ri) says:

While still fresh, any praise for J. Bell for the dismantling of Arroyo? His “game plan?”

  168. tdb1977 says:

Time to hit more long balls off Duke

  169. Baywatch says:

And here comes Zach Duke for the mighty REVERSE mop-up duty!

  170. Baywatch says:

Nice to know those boys at FOX are still doing their homework.

  171. cmst0829 says:

Not able to watch the game, why was brandon phillips removed from the game?

  172. 21sthebest says:

Fouled one off his lower leg. Swelled like a melon. He stayed in and got a hit, then Dusty pinch ran for him.

  173. Patrick(ri) says:

Now Fox is showing Twins/indians. At least I can watch Presley and Fryer (no Doumit). Talk about a poor substitute.

  174. Patrick(ri) says:

I guess it was too simple: hit home runs.

  175. Baywatch says:

CMST, we only have radio. Sounded like he basically hit a foul ball off his ankle. Wehner was REALLY giving Phillips a hard time, saying he was calling way too much attention to himself. He called the trainer out after he fouled it off his foot, and WEHNER was like, “Man, what’s a trainer going to do for that,” pretty much saying it was all a big attention-getting thing by Phillips. He came out after getting a single a few pitches later. Neverett said he was all doubled over at first base.

  176. Baywatch says:

We got Tampa Bay and Toronto here in East Texas, Pat! And my Pirates fan buddy, way south in Laredo has the Pirates game! Go figure!

  177. cmst0829 says:

    Tomorrows pirate lineup

    Pie CF
    Harrison 2B
    Lambo LF
    G Sanchez 3B
    Jones 1B
    Buck 3B
    Snyder RF
    Mercer SS

  178. Thundercrack says:

That was in response to Gunner below

  179. 21sthebest says:

If we play a meaningless September game tomorrow, I wonder if people will be upset.

  180. Patrick(ri) says:

With all the money people are putting up, better choice should be assumed. The big fear, of course is that they will get $40-50 per game.

  181. Patrick(ri) says:

Bet they don’t black it out.

  182. cmst0829 says:

Awesome. Maybe he fouled it off his ego.

  183. cmst0829 says:

Here in SF it is tb – toronto. Not sure why maybe oakland has something still in play vs tb (best record or home field or ?). As to twins indians, It makes sense toshow that in texas markets plus tampa as its relevant to wildcard in al.

  184. theplanisworking says:

No, he didnt foul it off his ass.
    Just sayin’.

  185. JRay3 says:

Barmes sac fly and Pirates are doing their part to ensure the BIGGEST game in Pittsburgh sports this year will be played in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  186. Baywatch says:

Well, yeah … I forget people actually LIKE the Rangers here! LOL!

  187. Patrick(ri) says:

Doumit sighting. Has a great looking beard(probably be sold to the Red sox). Ripped a line drive foul, then struck out — same old . . .

  188. Baywatch says:

He’s had a decent year for the Twins. He gets to play quite a bit of right field there, too, in addition to catching.

  189. Patrick(ri) says:

+1. I was just taking an easy and unfair shot.

  190. Steelag70 says:

Bay, we get the TB-TOR game here in Rangers territory…

  191. Steelag70 says:

    Two more!!

  192. Arriba Wilver says:

  193. bizrow says:

I’d stick 21 and Lucky in there ;-)

  194. Steve J. Smith says:

Awesome to hear a loud “Let’s go Bucs” chant in Cincy! 1 to go!

  195. bizrow says:

    One word

  196. Arriba Wilver says:

  197. Steve J. Smith says:

Welcome to a glorious home game, Pittsburgh!!! Bucs win!

  198. Thundercrack says:

  199. JRay3 says:

It is over, off the power display of six HR’s the Bucs secure second place in the Central and will host their first playoff game since 1992 Tuesday night at PNC where the place will be electric.

Think you have to save Cole as insurance for playoff game and throw Cumpton or Johnson tomorrow.

    Go Bucs!

  200. Steelag70 says:

    RAISE IT!!!!!

  201. Patrick(ri) says:

One more word, “sweet,” for the home game.

  202. 21sthebest says:

    Tuesday’s high 75!

  203. Nate83 says:

Raise it high and proud. Awesome!!!!!! Fans get a home game and man do they deserve it. Congratulations to the fans that stuck with this team for the last 20 years especially the ones that have spent their hard earned money to go to the games. Enjoy it. You all earned it.

  204. Steelag70 says:

I think CH had already decided to skip Cole tomorrow if they had it clinched…save him for Tues if Liriano struggles…

I’ll be there Tuesday, come heck or high water

    Beat Em Bucs

  206. bizrow says:

    You going 21?

  207. 21sthebest says:

  208. Drew71 says:

    I am so proud.

  209. Tom P. says:

Reds have lost 4 in a row, including today in which the Pirates walked 8 and hit 1. My guess is that the Pirates won’t get away with that on Tuesday.

  210. bizrow says:

Me too, 21, this is just beyond my wildest thoughts coming into this year

  211. tdb1977 says:

Can’t wait to be at the ball park on Tuesday night!

  212. bizrow says:

We’ve waited 20 years, I can wait another couple of days ;-)

  213. Arriba Wilver says:

    +2 Wows

  214. Drew71 says:

I never use this word with professional sports.

    “We won.” I didn’t hit. I didn’t pitch.

    20 years.

    We Won.

  215. Arriba Wilver says:

    I heard that, too.

  216. bizrow says:

I wanted the Central, when we clinched a playoff spot, I wanted the home game.

This is great, the regulars can relax tomorrow, and so can we.

If Huntington and CH don’t get GM/Manager of the year, well, I’ll blame it on budmeister….

  217. Arriba Wilver says:

  218. bizrow says:

I understand what you are saying,

But “we” are why the PBC is here.

The Bucs have been part of my family for 58+ years

  219. Drew71 says:

    No way.

    Hurdle lost 68 games.

  220. bizrow says:

So how does the series go after the wild card game?

We will play a 5 game series against the club with the best regular season record?

Is it two there, two here and one there?

The outage at the plant starts Monday at 0001.

The schedule is we start to defuel next Sunday night

So the defueling window is two days

During that time I gotta work 1000 to 2000 (8 pm)

    Crap, shoulda retired Oct 1….

  221. JRay3 says:

If Pirates win WC they will host games 1 and 2 of NLDS. Games 3, 4, 5 would be played in ATL or STL.

  222. True.

    And didn’t he say we’d win 93?

And how many did DK say?

    I believe and 7 and a 2 were involved.

Not like he hit it on the head like last season.

  223. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Awesome game!

The bats came alive and took advantage of Arroyo’s misses.

Chuck kept the ball up and had too many walks. Need him to get back to where he was before todays start for the playoffs.

Tomorrow’s game means nothing. Throw the young guys out there.

Liriano goes on Tuesday with Cole ready in the BP.

    Like our chances at home.

  224. I’ll be there. Only 3 1/2 hours from here.

  225. Dave G says:

Yeah, but he won’t lose 70!

  226. tdb1977 says:

What a cotton picking minute…we host games 1 and 2? I thought it was 1 and 2 there, 3 and 4 here, and 5 there.

  227. JRay3 says:

My bad it does revert back to 2-2-1 this season. Pirates would host games 3 and 4.

  228. JD says:

Here’s to Frank Coonelly, who was mocked heavily when he stated last fall that the Bucs would play meaningful baseball, not only in September, but that they plan to do it in October too. I’m glad the front office was given the opportunity to finish what they started.

    Lets Go Bucs!

  229. Thundercrack says:

When was the last time Cumpton pitched in a game?

  230. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

The announcers mentioned it during today’s game as well.

    Pretty easy call.

  231. bizrow says:

What days are they scheduled for?

  232. bizrow says:

I hope Slick Frank just goes away.

He is not an easy man to like

    But, Hi Frank, Congratulations

    Take a cab tonight ;-)

  233. bizrow says:

    Good thought, tomorrow?

  234. JRay3 says:

Potential Pirate home games would be Sunday, Monday Oct. 6 and 7.

  235. bizrow says:

    Thanks, crap….

  236. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Did TBS ever announce what time the game is on Tuesday?

  237. 21sthebest says:

I wouldn’t mind letting Locke try to end the season positively.

  238. Arriba Wilver says:

I hope Dusty doesn’t switch off Latos for Cueto Tuesday. I’d much rather face Latos. But I think that’s what he’s going to do.

  239. Arriba Wilver says:

  240. Arriba Wilver says:

He’s said the same stuff just about every year.

  241. Daquido_Bazzini says:

It sounds like that’s exactly what has happened.
Cueto has been a problem to the Pirates for several years now.

  242. JRay3 says:

I believe game is set for 8 EST. TBS will have half hour pre-game show that starts at 7:30 EST.

  243. JD says:

Does MLBTV still show the local feed during playoffs, or is TBS the only out of town option?

  244. JRay3 says:

TBS will be only option outside of teams local radio.

  245. theplanisworking says:

    Relax. Chill out.

  246. theplanisworking says:

  247. theplanisworking says:

Just another guy for us to hit.

  248. theplanisworking says:

    + many Budweisers………….

  249. theplanisworking says:

Tell us again what Frank does, besides get DUI’s, and do Hoka Hey interviews on the Fan?

    We will all wait.

DK: We STILL don’t have a Like button on here? I’ll have to get on that.

  250. John Lease says:

    Pounding the Reds?

  251. theplanisworking says:

As is seeing the scowl on Dustball’s face.

  252. War Horse says:

Leo, I was talking about this year’s team and the one for next year, likely without three key players who have made the Pirates strong this September. I was not talking about “the organization or the prospects on their way.” 2015 and beyond was not the point. “The team is as strong as any in the NL, but it is not likely to be as strong and talented next year.” Got it?

  253. Thundercrack says:

    He runs the team.

But those other things…that’s all you think he does

  254. Jim S. says:

Todd Frazier after the game on Friday said that it was just 2 hits that beat them. It wasn’t like the Pirates slaughtered them.

Well, it was 6 HR today, Todd. What do you say now?

Actually, I’m pretty sure I know what you’ll all say. You’ll say it doesn’t matter where the Wild Card game is played. We’ll see.

My hat is off to all the Bucs fans who showed up in Cincinnati and took that place over by the 8th inning.

Let’s go ahead and sweep them with the subs tomorrow, just because.

  255. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, Mr. Moderator. :)

Shouldnt you be in bed for the game? ;)

  256. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, Mr. Moderator. :)

Shouldnt you be in bed for the game? ;)

  257. Thundercrack says:

I would too. But I’m afraid that isn’t possible at this point

  258. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Or….Just another guy for Dusty Baker to hit batters provided by the Pirates….lol.

  259. theplanisworking says:

    Hahahahahaha, Thunder!!

Lets see, those things are documented, along with the Stroll Inn, etc.
For the record, thats is not all I think he does. I just dont know what he does do.

Like sign a horrible TV deal, among the worst in all of baseball……..
I do know he got the Budweiser Bowtie Bar…. right after the DUI……

So maybe you have some “inside” information as to what he does?
You and JD may be the only ones in Pittsburgh who like him, and dont say you dont, because you just defended him, as you do the FO all the time.

So my original question stands………… what does he do?
Your answer, “he runs the team”, is equivalent to saying all people breathe air. He is a total embarrassment to Pittsburgh, as well as humankind.
Proof of that? 4 friends of mine had a dispute involving Season tickets. Frank came into the meeting, and said he didnt care if they renewed the season tickets or not. THAT is how Frank “runs the team”.

  260. JD says:

Ha Ha plan. I’m glad to see your doom and gloom failed to materialize again. The Buccos won 2 games and will finish in 2nd place. Keep dwelling on the DUI while the rest of us enjoy the games.

  261. theplanisworking says:

JD, you arent relaxing or chilling out. Whats the matter, you get mad when someone uses your phrases against you?

You may call it doom and gloom, but I saw some horrible losses recently, and given the teams history of collapses, I had flashbacks. But you are entitled to your opinions.

I am also enjoying the games. Maybe not as much as you, but I still am cheering the Pirates on. Like Biz says, “expect the worst, Hope for the best.

Oh, and tell your “friend Frank, if he didnt do stupid things like the DUI, amongst others, we wouldnt dwell on it. I think that is a simple concept, dont you?

Like you always say……… Relax. Chill out! :)

  262. bizrow says:

    The man has no class

    That being said

    Beat Em Bucs

  263. theplanisworking says:

    + many.

  264. theplanisworking says:

Biz, I know this must be a special season for you.

Still have a bit to go to “Go Like 60″.

But I am hoping they do. Our hearts may not survive, but how satisfying it would be.

  265. Jandy says:

I missed the game but I got to see a very happy little birthday girl. Nothing else I would miss the game for at this point. I see Charlie had a good outing. I see we got run support. I see we got a home playoff game coming up Tuesday!
    I’m bowled over :D :D :D

  266. theplanisworking says:

Glad you had a good time.

    You and that bowling…………… ;)

  267. Chuck H says:

Maybe just a little-not enough to offset the hitting. Barmes struck out 3 times.

  268. Jandy says:

I sure did. That lil one is precious :)

yeah I’m STILL laughing over it lol

  269. Keith says:

Cueto is a risky proposition for the Reds. How do you use a guy coming off injury for a playoff game instead of your best arm?

  270. theplanisworking says:

Now we need to see you and your daughter in here tomorrow.

Both Buca and Steelers play at 1.

My remote has fresh batteries, so I am set.

Just hope bowling isnt on also…………………………. :D

  271. Drew71 says:

From somewhere in Kentucky, a reverend just screamed

  272. Jandy says:

Ha! I can’t promise to be on….as there is Harvestfest at DelGrosso’s Park. Hubby and I missed last year, and we wanna go. If it’s raining, however, that may change.

  273. Jandy says:

Revvie!!!! (Notice the dottied i) EYE!

  274. JohninOshkosh says:

John Cooper looks great. He has aged well.

  275. Chuck H says:

I wonder if the Reds will be playing to win on Sunday against the Buc’s second stringers.
It will be interesting to watch the bench boys perform. GO, BUCS, all the way!!!

  276. theplanisworking says:

Well enjoy whatever, and see you Monday.

If you go, buy a harvest for me……….. ;)

  277. JohninOshkosh says:

What’s with these Ohio State helmets ? Is Wisconsin really that special of an opponent that they have to break out the special unis ?

  278. theplanisworking says:

  279. JD says:

Can’t wait to read your 137 posts. 19 references to your pond. 32 exchanges of hellos. 85 negative posts about how the Steelers will be lucky to go 6-10 and how the Bucs will fail. And 1 “Hi Frank”

    Relax dude. Chill out.

  280. bizrow says:

    Sleep tight lunatics

    Good tidings

    Enjoy, its sweet

I’ll put Francisco at PNC on Tuesday against about anyone

One step on a long road

    But first step accomplished

  281. Reading says:

At least the “There’s never been a playoff game at PNC Park” stigma is gone forever. Win or lose on Tuesday, it would have been a shame had the game not been played at PNC.

  282. 21sthebest says:

    What Hoka Hey interview?

  283. theplanisworking says:

    Back at ya.
Always enjoy your cheery attitude also.

  284. Drew71 says:

    Reverend just went falcetto

  285. JohninOshkosh says:

    Yeah, Braxton Miller can’t throw.

  286. JohninOshkosh says:

Lucky’s sermon tomorrow can be on how the Badgers secondary sucks.

  287. Throw back or throw up.

  288. You were concerned with that going in.

  289. Lad 9 says:

Good evening Plan. And how is the pond tonight, my friend? :)

  290. Brandie says:

Sorry I am super late to the party (or am I super early for the next one). I was at an all day party at a friend’s house.

Glad to see the offensive explosion put on by our Buccos. Cannot wait until Tuesday. Time to put the Reds away, back into their troll holes! Look out post season, here come the Buccos!

    Rest well Lunatics..

  291. JohninOshkosh says:

We are 24 hour party people.

  292. theplanisworking says:

I am fine, Lad. Relaxed and chilled. ;)

But be careful, JD may have a blood vessel burst by you referencing the Pond.

According to him, I might have already exceeded my “JD permitted” # of posts for the day. We also exchanged hellos, and he doesnt allow that, either.

But I hope this finds you doing well.

    Hi Frank! :D

  293. Lad 9 says:

  294. Brandie says:

Greetings Johnny Wisconsin! Hope Wisconsin’s Finest is having a fabulous evening!

  295. Brandie says:

  296. theplanisworking says:

    Glad you are back safe.

    Get wins tomorrow, Brandie.

    Go for it

  298. Drew71 says:

Stoopid. Who told em to go for it?

  299. Thundercrack says:

“Your answer, “he runs the team”, is equivalent to saying all people breathe air. He is a total embarrassment to Pittsburgh, as well as humankind.”

I have no comeback for that train of thought
No way to have a debate with that.

Just got home from an all day long “80’s Rock In The Park” thing. Probably 20,000 folks spread out over a few acres. A lot of Pirate hats & shirts. All new. I engaged as many of them as I could and they are all in. We were keeping each other updated on the Home Run Derby that went on in Cincy today.

We always see Steelers and Pens stuff down here (East Coast of Florida), but very scarce on Buccos stuff. The last week has been surreal. So… Much Pirates gear being worn.

    Tuesday 8pm PNC Park.

    Go Bucs!

Hi Nickname Girl. Just beating you to the punch.

I’m off to bed. Please keep an i on the good reverend.

Some very positive, thoughtful ideas about the Pirates’ chances in the play-offs to start the day:

  304. Jim S. says:

With the not so vaunted schedule Urban specializes in, I think Wisconsin at home is special. If this game were at Camp Randall, it may have been a different result.

OSU has a lot of talent, but their coach doesn’t seem to want to play anyone outside of his conference that might pose any chance of a loss. Does OSU have anyone left on the schedule but B1G teams?

With his SEC background, I was hoping he would embrace a more difficult schedule each year. Disappointing.

  305. Jim S. says:

Does anyone know whether Andrew Lambo plays any 1b? If he can, that would seem to give him more of an opportunity to stick next year. It sure appears that Jones is no longer in the plans, and unless Morneau suddenly gets hot in the playoffs, I doubt he and his now light hitting bat are in the mix to platoon with Gabby next year at 1b. On the other hand, not knowing whether Byrd can be resigned, and with Polanco not arriving until at least June, Lambo could be a platoon partner with Tabby and/or Gabby. Dickerson could be another option coming up from the minors.

I would hope we can find a more established lefty-hitting 1b in the off-season. We have sacrificed a lot of power there this year relative to other teams, especially in the 2nd half of the year. I am not saying Lambo is the answer. He is unproven, and until yesterday all of his HR were hit against minor league pitching. But, I am also not dismissing that he could be a decent major league hitter with pop against righties. Minor leagues or not, 32 HR in a season says there is talent there, IMO.

I think Byrd is a tough re-sign. My guess is he would love to come back to the Bucs. But, this is not an AJ situation. Byrd probably feels this is his last chance at a pretty good 2 year deal. I don’t think he is financially in AJ’s situation where he feels he could easily accept a 1-year deal with maybe an option for a 2nd year at a home town discount. The Bucs are counting on Polanco, for sure, by 2015. They likely would only want Marlon for one season.

Just thinking about the future for a minute. Ok, now back to our regularly scheduled 2013 playoffs talk. I am so geeked up about Tuesday night. Still thinking about taking a day or two off from work and making the trip. The atmosphere, in my opinion, may just be the best atmosphere for a MLB playoff game on one night of any place in the country for the last 10 years. It is going to be a madhouse. I took my kids to the Labor Day Fri/Sat games vs. the Cards, as well as to a couple of the Marlins games earlier, and I got goosebumps in PNC. It was electric! We need that again on Tuesday. PNC is a truly special place right now! Go Bucs!

  306. Very good thoughts on Lambo and Dickerson, Jim.

  307. JRay3 says:

    Bucs JV team today:

Pie, Tabata, Snider, Alvarez, Buck, Jones, Mercer, Harrison and Cumpton

Leaving in Pedro for shot at NL HR title as he is tied with Paul Goldshmidt

  308. Arriba Wilver says:

You think Cutch has the votes for MVP over Goldschmidt since the D’Backs didn’t make it? I know there are some others, but this guy has had a great year.

  309. Jim S. says:

Cutch should beat out Goldschmidt for that reason, I would think. If it were my ballot, Carpenter followed by Molina woudl be his stiffest competition.

  310. Jim S. says:

Looks like the Reds are leaving in their usual lineup. Maybe Dusty didn’t get the “This game doesn’t matter” memo.

  311. Jim S. says:

    Thanks, Lucky!

  312. Lad 9 says:

Jim I checked and Lambo played 19 games at 1B this year. Before that he hadn’t played there since a few in 2008. Probably need to go a different direction there. Agree with you in Byrd and the rest

I too can’t wait for Tuesday night. My oldest and I are going and I am stoked. Go Buccos!

  313. Arriba Wilver says:

Might be trying to get some momentum.

  314. Brandie says:

Absolutely awesome! I hope you both have a wonderful time!

  315. JRay3 says:

Dbacks being out of it really hurts Goldschmidt, think Cutch has sewn it up.
