  5. JRay3 says:

The butterflies are in full force, the excitement palpable. I so don’t want this joyous season to come to an end. What an amazing journey the Pirates have taken us on in 2013. Do they have even more to give?

I think many would agree Baseball is a very mental sport. Here is where I believe the Pirates could generate an advantage tonight. Before the three game series in Cinci to close out the regular season, Reds reliever Sam LeClure stated the Reds wanted to win those games and take that series to cast doubt amongst the Pirates that they could beat them.

Well it was the Pirates who flipped that script and may have been the ones to cast doubt. Now we all know the previous 19 meetings this season will have nothing to do with tonight’s final and most important chapter.

However, if the Pirates can somehow get off to a quick start, the energy of the crowd rises maybe it will get in the Reds players heads that seed of doubt. If they start thinking of anything other than that pitch, that current singular situation, or press just a little it could lead to an advantage.

Baseball is all about how you deal with the failures, the Reds have closed their season with many as they have lost five straight headed into tonight’s contest and their offense has grown silent of late. Here’s to a couple quick, early shutdown innings from Frankie.

    Go Bucs!

  6. Reading says:

Now is the time for all good Pirates to come to the aid of their team.

  7. Rbilak says:

    - West and Barksdale on the ump crew, thrown Clint out several times this year. Has a warning been given due to Crusty Baker’s love of hitting Cutch?

    – Will Ludwick keep doing the opposite of what he did while as a Pirate?

    – Is Billy Hamilton active for Reds?

    – gonna go with Walker as hero tonight, just a gut feeling.

    – can’t wait to see PNC rock tonight. Never thought it woukd happen.

    Let’s Go Buc’s

  9. Steelag70 says:

Something tells me this Bucco team is in the right fram of mind to close out the Reds tonight. They really impressed me with that this past weekend.

  10. Nate83 says:

What the heck. 250 on win the World Series.

  11. tdb1977 says:

Please give me 100 on the over for line one and the full wager of 250 on line 2!

  13. SkinnyBarryBonds says:

Need Liriano to shut the Reds down. I’d love to see a crooked number by the Bucs in the first to get the crowd riled up and into the game.

If the Bucs are up 2-0 in the sixth and Liriano walks the first batter – what do you do? Easy to monday morning QB that decision, but if he has been pitching well and not shown signs of tiring, I let my horse run.

  14. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    250 on which outcome?

  15. Playoffs by 2012 says:

For Line #2 do you want only 100 or to max out at 250?

  16. JohninOshkosh says:

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti…

  17. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Well put buddy!

  18. Kevin says:

he’s hit plenty of fly balls… usually to the warning track or at the right fielder.

  19. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Thanks…now I wanna watch The Godfather.

  20. Nate83 says:

If it’s 2-0 I leave him in uless his pitch count has gotten above 90. If it’s 4-2 I probably pull him out but that’s just me. Whatever move Clint makes is the right move even if it turns out bad. He knows those players better then anybody else.

  21. Kevin says:

  22. Kevin says:

hmm I was thinking Boondock Saints.. but to each his own.

  23. Tonight will be perhaps one of the most electrifying atmospheres that baseball has seen in a long time. The new Wild Card system has worked well to influence fan turnout as well as contribute to a season filled with great games and good teams emerging from smaller markets.

The pitching matchup is one that supports an inconsistent pace and, I believe, some room to work with in the run department for both sides of tonight’s “win or go home” game. Having said that, both teams are very tough (as well as having a strong team character respectively) so I think we are looking at a close ball game heading into the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings.

Tonight’s game will go to the Reds because they have the luxury of depth as they head into the playoffs. Mr. Billy Hamilton waiting anxiously on the bench all game getting hyped up for his chance to prove to the world that he is not only the best base stealer of our generation but the best bag-swipper of all time. Yes, tonight Hamilton gets his 14th stolen base in just his 14th big league game and it will happen late just like it has happened in this season before. He steals second, base hit scores him from second on a ball hit just about anywhere in the outfield grass, don’t believe me then keep watching this young man’s career. Then to burn away the Pirates new playoff hopes comes “The Cuban Missile” to throw 100+ mph cheddar past your 3,4,and 5 hitters to push the Reds into the 2013 postseason.

  24. Bizrow says:

100 on line 1 on the OVER

250 on winning the whole dam thing

    Beat Em Bucs

    We’ll go like 60

    Thanks, Playoffs

  25. cmat0829 says:

100 on under; 250 on WINNING THE WORLD SERIES

  26. Bizrow says:

Yes, I think Frankie blowing them away early and getting into that groove is a key

  27. Bizrow says:

Yes, Hamilton is on the roster, Reds have 10 pitchers, Leake is the Gerritt Cole for them

  28. Bizrow says:

    Calling Jandy, Calling Jandy

Could you please do your “thing” with those wide 9’s ;-)

  29. Bizrow says:

  30. Right, Juan. And the Bengals will win the Super Bowl.

  31. cmat0829 says:

WOW, about 5 hours from the game and I’ve got goosebumps in Phoenix, AZ. And it’s 85 degrees out. What a scene it will be when the team is announced (assuming they will announce the team like they do for opening day) and takes the field!!

I think the NLDS roster (and yes , WE WILL get to St Louis ) is tonight’s roster but add AJ and Morton and remove Snider and Buck.

Will be big for Frankie to set the Reds down in top of 1 so the Bucs can hit in a scoreless game…..

  32. NMR says:

Dusty: “Aroldis, phone’s for you. It’s the Hilton. We have a problem.”

  33. Kevin says:

how will they do that, they can’t even beat the brownies??

  34. You really think the Bucs have an answer for it? Has anyone but the back up catcher for KC had an answer? nah and I chalk that one up on a great tag. Now let’s not get started on the NFL. Only good for point spreads and fantasy wins.

  35. JRay3 says:

    I think you made a wrong turn somewhere on the I 75 / I 71 interchange.

  36. Arriba Wilver says:

EYE knew you were joking, Lucky. ;-)

  37. tdb1977 says:

    Opps – line 4 :)

  38. No speakaaa any Eanglishh

  39. Arriba Wilver says:

Yes as to the Bucs having an answer.

Where you from, Juan? Biz needs to know for his list.

  40. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m thinking the Pittsburgh Police Department has been sitting on an outstanding warrant for over a year just waiting for the right time to exercise it. 10 PM seems about right.

  41. Playoffs by 2012 says:

250 on the NLCS win but losing in WS…

    YOU GOT IT!!!

  42. Bizrow says:

I think we might already have his home planet listed ;-)

  43. I really want to see McClutch blast one of those 100 MPH fastballs 450ft into the cheap seats and the city of Pittsburgh will be a party tonight!!!!

  44. Jandy says:

MISTER Martinez…why do you think Billy Hamilton is the ONLY player capable of winning a game for a team? Hell, we have our very own Sterling Marte, who with his young son, is motivated beyond motivation to win this game. We have Liriano on the mound….who is well known for closing down lefties….and the Reds’ three big hitters are all lefties. if he fails, we have Cole, who can throw his 98 – 99 MPH fastballs as well.
And then we have our veteran Mr. Byrd, who can wow your Johnny Cueto’s pitches right into the bleachers in the outfield. :)

Not being ignorant here,…but who asked you to this party anyway???

  45. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m a little nervous, because I was at Frankie’s last start against the Reds.

    But optimistic.

  46. Jandy says:

  47. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Remember—-DON’T FEED THE TROLLS!

  48. Jandy says:

    he’s due, AW, he’s due…

  49. Jandy says:

    hey Mr. Playoffs :)
I gotta go bet my line….

  50. Arriba Wilver says:

I was trying to be subtle, Biz. (You know, stepping out of character a little ). ;-)

  51. Jandy says:

  52. Tom P. says:

Quick start is big. I remember in 1991 at Three Rivers, John Smiley gave up a 3-run homer to Brian Hunter of the Braves in the top of the first, and the Pirates never recovered. Let’s Go Bucs.

  53. Karen22 says:

    100 MorneauByrds – OVER

250 – Win the whole BUCn thing!!

I’m broke already so playing on angel wings!!

And as always: Thanks, Playoffs! :)

  54. JohninOshkosh says:

Aroldis, “I left the money on the dresser, skip, I swear,”

  55. Jandy says:

    DARYL!! Hi there!
If Morneau hits a grounder and gets on, and Byrd hits him in, it’s all good, friend :)

  56. Dave G says:

The Pirates inherited the Penguins’ winning mojo when they wore Pens gear back in the spring. The Bucs went on to have a spectacular season, as the Pens wilted terribly against the Bruins.

Fast forward to today. A photo of Pascal Dupuis wearing a Pirates helmet. The mojo has osmosed back in the other direction.

The Bucs will lose tonight. And the Pens will tear up the NHL this season.

  57. Arriba Wilver says:

HE did great last time. He did his job.

  58. JHadar says:

    Classic troll.

  59. Jandy says:

Mother Theresa is sending up the Ave Maria’s and the Our Fathers!

  60. Karen22 says:

  61. JuniataKid says:

Been waiting 20 years for tonight. Can’t believe it’s here.

And this one-game play-in/play-off is the third dumbest idea MLB ever (behind the DH and indoor baseball, only slightly ahead of Astroturf).

  62. Nate83 says:

Hamilton is exciting but lets not put him in the hall of fame just yet. He may become a .250 lifetime hitter which would make him a slightly better version of Dee Gordan. Watson or Wilson could come in when Hamilton is a pinch runner and make it much more difficult to steal against a left hander. Especially one that throws 97-100 mph and Russel Martin catching.

  63. Karen22 says:

  64. Arriba Wilver says:

You live near Cincinnati, right, Dave? ;-)

  65. Should be over by half time (as they say). I’ll even say final score 12-5 Bucs on account that they score 3 late off Bucs scrubs and the shark tank coasts to a playoff victory in front of the most incredible night in PNC Park history until the next weeks to come. Hamilton cant hurt you if he is on the bench waiting for nothing to happen.

  66. Pucknutz says:

Window – give me the same as Biz line 1 100 over
    Whole darn thing !!!!!! 250
    Beat em Bucs !!!

  67. Kevin says:

bah I mis-read sorry… give me the whole 250 maxed out units.

  68. tdb1977 says:

Is this like a confirmed tornado spotting. Here now, ruins everyones day, leaves like the wind?

  69. I bet on reds at one and a half tho buddy.

  70. JohninOshkosh says:

Is Mike Leake on tonight’s roster, or will he have time to get to Macy’s tonight ?

My last one of the season, ladies and germs. I’ll see everyone again next year.

  71. Jandy says:

Mr. Playoffs, sir, on this momentous day, we cannot place our bets on anything but the win or bust for our boys…
Line 1, 100 on the over
The second line, 250 ALL IN units for win the world series or bust!!!!!

  72. Jandy says:

one a half what? Toothpicks? ;)

  73. Jandy says:

Not gonna ruin my day :)

Just use ignore if necessary :) :) :)

  74. Bizrow says:

  75. Jandy says:

He’ll do great again…have you remembered to use your anti-perspirant, AW??? :P

  76. Dom says:

    #1 100 UNDER!!!
    #2 25 ON LOSE TODAY!!!

  77. Jandy says:

And the bats will be there….

  78. Bizrow says:

    zactly, maam

  79. Jandy says:

  80. Okay last time Liriano threw that hard was when you thought you saw him throw that when you were watching a bull-pen in spring training. Never ever hitting that on the gun, but lets be real. Billy Hamilton will be in the hall of fame, he may never hit over .300 but he will hit over .250 unless you think he is worse than Alcides Escobar (from KC) then your just nuts. Even though Alcides is mah dude. He steals more bases then anyone has ever stolen I’d put cash on that.

  81. Jandy says:

hey, long time no see, Juniata :)

  82. Jandy says:

cash? you’re gonna lay cash you don’t have on that? Oh you so funny! Don’t give up your day job, what a comedian!

  83. Bizrow says:

Good to see you here JuniataKid

The nerves are tough, wonder how the club is handling it?

Hopefully, once the first pitch is thrown, its just another game to them.

  84. Arriba Wilver says:

No. I have SRO’s so I want people to move away when I come near.

  85. Jandy says:

Ahhh and he’s bi-polar, my friends….that’s it, he forgot his meds :)

  86. Clearly you are blinded by your situation and the fact that you’re nervous for tonight’s game. Love the new system and be glad that the AL gets to have more than just another team from the AL east in every single year!!! YAY

  87. Jandy says:

Mother Theresa dispenses with the subtleties…just tells it like it is :D

  88. Kevin says:

hey dont say that… remember when Fleury came out in his blue jersey, steelers helmet, waving the terrible towel? Pretty sure steelers won the next game.

  89. Jandy says:

Getting ‘em primed, Biz, my friend :)

  90. My day job is being a comedian, jokes on you.

  91. tdb1977 says:

NOO! Thats not the line I wanted *sniff* *sniff* I wanted the line to win the whole darn thing. If I cant change, and this happens…I take full responsibility. Sorry folks *sniff*

  92. Jandy says:

Not me, sonny, you’re the clown here, but no one’s laughing…lame is boring :P

  93. Nate83 says:

Pump the breaks. I was talking about Wilson and Watson when I was talking about 97-100. Wilson has indeed thrown that hard consistantly. Hamilton has some parts of his game to work on.

I’m not saying he can’t become the player you say he already is but he batted .256 in AAA this year. They had a huge hole in the outfield and chose not to bring the kid up.

  94. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    YOU GOT IT!!!

  95. Dom says:

I’m very nervous and regret eating such a large lunch.

To be honest, I don’t think we’re going to win.

Cueto has destroyed us in the past.

Liriano has not won a game against the Reds today.

I don’t like it how we’re playing conservative and going with Barmes.

The Reds have that shutdown closer.

    My prediction is 7-3 Reds.

    I hope I’m wrong.

  96. Jandy says:

OK everyone, Mother Theresa has to finish up HER day job (some of us have to work, right Martinez the comedian?), so I gotta get it in gear. Hopefully catch you on the thread here this evening.
    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  97. Jandy says:

Go throw up, Dom, you’ll feel better :)

  98. NMR says:

Boy, it’s tough to even say the words, but this game has to be the Pirates to lose.

That Reds lineup, realistically, ends at Bruce. And three of those first five that can hit are left handed. As long as Liriano limits walks, the odds have to be heavily in his favor.

Three runs wins this game for the Pirates.

  99. Jandy says:

well, eat your beans before you go, AW :D

  100. NMR says:

    I love you, Dom.

“I’m very nervous and regret eating such a large lunch.”

    ^post of the year

  101. Kevin says:

the game hasn’t started yet, bro.. relax. here’s my answer to you line-by-line.

    1. Cueto’s been injured for the last month+. There’s no guarantee he’ll be all that.

    2. Liriano in a bounce back game (the game after he sucks)… has an ERA of like 0.00.

    3. Barmes will not only play sound defense but he will score a run somehow.. trust me on this!

    4. The shutdown closer will not be any use if the pirates are already up by 3+.

    5. My prediction is 6-5 pirates. And my real prediction is the pirates score a bunch early and carry a 6-3 lead into the 9th and almost blow the game.

    6. You are wrong.

  102. Arriba Wilver says:

Anybody heard how Phillips is after hitting that ball off his leg Saturday?

  103. Arriba Wilver says:

That worries me, Dom, since you tend to look on the bright side. :-D

  104. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Ok, 250 on win the whole durned thing.

    YOU GOT IT!!!

  105. Nate83 says:

He is still a loud mouth jerk but now he is a loud mouth jerk with a sore shin.

  107. Dom says:

Thanks. I feel a little better.

  108. Bizrow says:

Lets get thru tonight and see what happens ;-)

    I like our chances

  109. Nate83 says:

I like it. We match up good against them in my opinion. I don’t think they have the starting pitching depth and although Adams has done a really good Craig impression I’m not sure he can do it in the playoffs as well.

I think we match up well against Atlanta as well because they are a homerun hitting team that strike out a lot. We do not give up many homeruns and strike out a lot of hitters.

The Dodgers I do not thing we match up well against.

  110. Dom says:

I know. That last post was such a stray from my happy go lucky self. ;)

  111. toochca says:

Cardinals fans that posted on the site want the Reds to win becasue they don’t want to play the Pirates!! The Cardinal fans don’t want the Pirates because they are the better team in their eyes too

  113. Nate83 says:

I forgot to mention that Vince Coleman and Tim Raines just called and wanted me to tell you that their hall of fame speeches are ready. They are just waiting for that phone call. For what it’s worth Tim Raines was a better hitter then Hamilton probably ever will be. Very underrated player.

  114. Nate83 says:

I agree. The Reds are the Cowboys. Good looking on paper but the results are not what you would expect. The Pirates are more like the Seahawks. Not a lot of big names but better results then you would expect.

  115. Iceman says:

    My first thought as well!

  116. Bizrow says:

    Don’t stop posting ;-)

I’m guessing with the “black out”, the Bucs will be in black

  117. cmat0829 says:

odd that hannigan is catching and not mesoroco (sp)….

  118. Dom says:

Still over 4 hours till game time!

  119. bradthedad says:

Along the line of limiting walks, we got Cowboy Joe who has the rep, fair or no (and to keep getting these gigs he must have pictures of MLB staff), of a small plate. Not what we want to see for Liriano.

  120. Damon says:

I’ll take 100 on the over for Morneau + Byrd (gotta be a 3-run HR in there somewhere)

I’ll also take 250 on win, win, lose in NLCS

  121. Tom P. says:

I just wished my grad school roommate from 1990 (who is a Reds fan) good luck re: tonight’s game. It seemed like the chivalrous thing to do.

  122. NMR says:

    Dusty gon’ Dusty

  123. NMR says:

    Good question.

  124. TCB says:

    #1 – 100 on the Under.
    #2 – 250 on the Loss tonight.

Hope I am a big Loser tonight.

  125. JohninOshkosh says:

Dom, dude, you are the best!

  126. JRay3 says:

Yes they are wearing the black tops, saw it posted on twitter.

  127. NMR says:

“Liriano has not won a game against the Reds today.”

This one is growing on me. :)

  128. NMR says:

Great point, brad. You have some awesome observations. Love when you post.

  129. Nate83 says:

    Go Bucs!!!!!

Everyone enjoy the game. I don’t think I will be on tonight as both my hands will be busy covering up my face barely able to see through my fingers as if I was watching the scariest movie ever made. Hopefully starting tonight around 11:30 we can start talking about how we are going to beat those Cardinals.

  130. NMR says:

Stare into the large duck’s eyes. They are calming.

  131. jmiller says:

OK so if we lose its your fault

  132. bradthedad says:

Thx. You too. The really good news is that Cole is waiting and all he does is bust the strike zone.

  133. theplanisworking says:

    Add Pluto.

Because Juan is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out there. :)

  134. NMR says:

“Cueto has destroyed us in the past.”

I appologize if you all have disected this one already. But Rumbunter has a pretty good article on why this statement is deceiving.

Has Cueto dominated the Bucs in the past?

Sure. But the Bucs have also sucked in the past. The Bucs, relatively speaking, do not currently suck.

Marte, Byrd, Morneau, and Martin aren’t exactly Presley, Snider, Mckenry, Jones, and the rest of the future All Stars previously forming lineups.

  135. JohninOshkosh says:

I think they should wear those red vest unis with black undershirts that they wore back in, what was it, 2007 ?

I actually still have on those hats with the red bills. I’m going to bury it in my backyard if the Pirates win tonight.

  136. Jim S. says:

He’s fine. He may put on a “limp show” tonight, but he’s fine.

  138. JHadar says:

I’m just enjoying it while it lasts, and I think it will last beyond tonight . . .

It should be loud at PNC . . . Hope Watson (the kid from Iowa don’t you know) does well.

    Beat ‘em Bucs.

  139. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I just finished a simulation of tonight’s game via
RBI Baseball 2 for the original Nintendo.

    Here are the results:

    CIN — 3 ~ 7 ~ 2
    PIT — 5 ~ 9 ~ 0

    Winning Pitcher: Doug Drabek
    Losing Pitcher: Tom Browning

    Cincy Player Stats:
    SB – Barry Larkin (1)
    2B – Chris Sabo (1)
    3B – Barry Larkin (1)
    HR – Paul O’Neill (1)
    RBI – Barry Larkin (2), Paul O’Neill (1)
Errors – Todd Benzinger (1), Tom Browning (1)

    Pittsburgh Player Stats:
    SB – RJ Reynolds (2)
    2B – Andy Van Slyke (1), Bobby Bonilla (1)
HR – Jay Bell (1), Andy Van Slyke (1)
RBI – Bobby Bonilla (1), Andy Van Slyke (1), Jay Bell (3)

    There you have it folks.
Early 1990’s technology has predicted tonight’s outcome.
    Place you wagers accordingly.

  140. theplanisworking says:

Didnt get a chance to post this earlier today, but……………………………………

First playoff game here in 21 years.
We just cant lose to a team, and manager, like Cincinnati, and Dusty Baker.
If we do, the Baseball Gods are extremely stupid.

I see a tight game, and, since it is the playoffs, Disty cant order the beanballs.

    Pirates 3, Reds 2.

    GO BUCS !!!

  141. buggee says:

    Tonight’s line:
    100 UNDER (please)

    Bonus Playoffs Pick ‘Em:
250 for Win Wild Card Game, Win in NLDS, Lose in NLCS (DOUBLE ODDS) (against Atlanta)

    Raise It or something!

  142. theplanisworking says:

Oh what the hell……….. everybody else is doing it……………

    100 Hippos on the OVER
250 Hippos on WINNING THE WORLD SERIOUS !!!!!!

    GO BUCS!

(This is why I cant have nice things………..) ;)

  143. Jim S. says:

Ok, listen up. Everyone who has gotten stuck out on that ledge, reach out your hand. We’ll pull you back in. It’s going to be ok. It really is. We’re better than this team. As Clint has said, “We respect everyone. We fear no one.”

Our guys will be just fine tonight. I feel good. Go Bucs!!

Dom, grab a burrito. Your stomach will be just fine. And, if it isn’t, well, at least you’ll be at your house and not mine when it blows.

  144. JRay3 says:

  145. Jandy says:

  146. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Bucs did most of their damage in the bottom of the 3rd.

    Lind struck out
    Drabek walked
Reynolds got on with a bunt single
Bell hit a 3 run homer
    Van Slyke hit a double
Bonds grounded out to first, Van Slyke to third
Bonilla hit a double, Van Slyke scored
    King struck out

  147. Jandy says:

    but Hipposter you ARE nice.:*

  148. buggee says:

    the Matrix for me

  149. Karen22 says:

  150. buggee says:

    ROFL!!! that’s AWESOME Jandylicious

  151. NMR says:

Starting for the Cleveland Indians tonight will be Danny Salazar.

Danny Salazar pitched against Jameson Taillon about four months ago.

    Good luck, young fella.

  152. Karen22 says:

    Tomorrow night…

  153. War Horse says:

Line #1 – 100 on the UNDER for Byrd & Morneau

Line #2 – 100 TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES

  154. Dave G says:

Yes but I am black and gold thru and thru.

    Forever and ever.

  155. Jim S. says:

    He’s country strong, JHadar.

  156. buggee says:

    I’m wearing the black top

  157. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, Mom T!!!

If I were you, I might re-think that.
Today, I was given the task of moving 2 work benches that my friend said were sooooooooo heavy. Lifted the first one up, and accidentally flipped it over on him. Maybe I should have seen how heavy “I” thought it was, instead of believing him? Oops. I will say 3 Hail Jandys, and ask for forgiveness…….

  158. Scott says:

You’re the smart one. Whenever I bet on anything, I always pick against the team I like. That way, if they win, I’m happy to lose the bet. If they lose, I can console myself with the fact that I won the wager.

  159. Dave G says:

Best way to approach tonight’s game is…

The Reds have to play *_us._*

    Go Bucs!

  160. JohninOshkosh says:

Well, gotta go, buddies, and umpire or ref or whatever officials are called at a cross country meet (match ?). In short, I’ve got to watch kids run around a golf course and make sure they don’t take shortcuts or hail a cab or something. Probably won’t check in during the game. Too nervous, quite frankly. I’ll be pacing as the game goes on and driving my wife, who will be watching New Girl or something on Bravo downstairs, nuts.

Wish all of you well. Have a blast to those going to the game. Try to flag down Dejan and ask him how many wins the Jets will have this year.

Go Bucs. See you all on the other side.

  161. Jim S. says:

I had to get out of the office early today. My apologies to my fellow employees if it was not the Blackhawks’ first game of the year that had me on edge. I just had to get out of there.

On the way home, I was listening to Casey Stern and Jim Bowden on MLB Radio, as I usually do. Bowden has been known to drive me nuts, although I am generally ok with him. He has been fair to our Bucs this year. He actually got his start, I believe, working for the Bucs.

Anyway, he predicted the atmosphere would be awesome tonight and that the Bucs would advance. He predicted a bit start from Frankie, and a huge night from Cutch. Ok, so far so good. But, he had to follow-up with “St. Louis will be a heavy favorite vs. either of these two teams.” Heavy favorite vs.the Bucs, Jim? They beat us by a whopping 3 games over 162. We won the head-to-head 10-9. His rationale was that their pitching staff was much deeper and stronger. Now, if he had said it was because St. Louis hit so much better and scored so many more runs I could accept that. But, their pitching staff is so much deeper than the team which just set a record for most pitchers having a sub-3.60 ERA or something like that in MLB history? The Cards have a fine staff, and it may be the equal of ours. But, much deeper and better? This guy was a GM for Cincinnati and Washington. This is as deep as his knowledge goes? Ugh! Well, I guess he’s entitled to his opinion.

  162. War Horse says:

I’m laughing out loud, Jandy. Thanks. That dude is confused, to say the least.

  163. Jim S. says:

I want to see the Tribe win that one. It would really irk me if my team were dismissed so much this month because of a schedule down the stretch that we did not set up. All the Indians have done is smother the teams they have played. They are not squeaking out wins. They are destroying teams. I know they are weak teams, but who would be beating those teams more than Cleveland has? They faced a tougher schedule early on than the other WC contenders. I think they have a ton of motivation right now. I hope once we win tonight, the Tribe wins tomorrow.

  164. Scott says:

Bonds doesn’t hit even in a Nintendo playoff game.

  165. NMR says:

I’m just picturing him reading that Sports Illustrated article from June or whatever while Casey silently points to the date.

  166. Dadtackular says:

    Line 1. 100 on under
Line 2. 250 on win tonite, win nlds, lose nlcs

  167. Dom says:

Can i change #2 to 50 on the buccos losing today?

  168. Arriba Wilver says:

I was going to go a different route, but you convinced me, Karen.

    Line 1—100 on the OVER

Line 2—250 on winning it all

(Pitt has broken my brackets in the past with this philosophy.) :-)

  169. Steelag70 says:

I was thinking the same score Plan….

the best game ever and I play mlb the show , classic

  171. Jim S. says:

    Thanks for both lineups, DK!

  172. Arriba Wilver says:

And everyone made fun of Frank when they added sleeves. ;-)

  173. Jim S. says:

  174. War Horse says:

I’ll be watching tonight’s game on MLB-TV at 0100 local time in the UK. But I would rather listen to the Pirates’ radio annoucers than TBS, as the game is played.

Can anyone on here tell me a web site where I can listen to Pittsburgh radio station audio?

    Many thanks.

  175. Jim S. says:

    Nice one, Scott!

  176. Stuart says:

Playoffs, please wager 100 on the Morneau/Byrd OVER please.

Also I would like to wager the full 250 for the Bucs to win the wild card, Win the NLDS, and lose in the NLCS.

    Go Bucs!

PS to quote Bennie Benak “The Bucs are going all the way”

  177. stickyweb says:

    100 UNDER line 1
250 win World Series line 2

  178. Jim S. says:

I hear you on Cole, Brad. Everyone is saying that. The problem is, though, that if we need Cole, things are probably not going well. I hope he does not make an appearance until Game 2 in St. Louis. That is when I might start him.

  179. toochca says:

I subscribed to MLB At Bat. Several Levels of Subscriptions. One level allows you to listen to the game feeds but it is delayed by anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on your internet speed

  180. Stuart says:

Excuse me Juan, but what happened to Cincy in the last three games? I guess Billy Boy couldn’t steal first! Hope you haven’t bet a large sum on the outcome.

  182. My Friends in Madness,

I’ve been in meetings since 7:30 AM this morn, and have another meeting until 8:15 tonight. Blah!!!

However, I wanted to check in to say that “Today has been the best of times and it is the worst of times!”

This pain and fear for tonight is killing me!! Isn’t it grand!?!?

I HATE the 1-game playoff but I love the Pirates, and I hope to end my meeting soon enough to hear every pitch!

What a wonderful, terrible, lovely, ugly thing the post-season is!! Come on, Buccos!

  183. toochca says:

Ooops, sorry. You already knew that. I can’t read properly today.

  184. Jim S. says:

    Well said, Groat.

  185. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    YOU GOT IT!!!

  186. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window on this most exciting day. Welcome to Buctober! Have to like this playoff baseball as it gives us more chances to play the window, something I have really enjoyed, thanks!

    Line 1 – 100 on the UNDER

Bonus Line – 250 on Win Wild Card Game, Lose in NLDS

    Thanks and Go Bucs!

  187. Stuart says:

I plan to celebrate after Frankie’s first pitch with a Killions Red Irish Ale. No matter the outcome tonight, this year was super.

I like our chances against the toothpick tonight: 6-1 BUCS.

Hope were celebrating tomorrow. If so, the Red Birds are merely a bump in the road.

  188. Lad 9 says:

Playoffs, will go 100 on the under for line 1, and 250 on winning it all on line 2. Thank you so much. Great lines again! Go Buccos!!!!!!!

  189. Jim S. says:

Dusty said he is starting Ludwick over Hamilton because of …. we all know what comes next. Yes, because of the “experience” factor. Honestly, all Hamilton brings is speed, and I’m not sure what Ludwick brings besides experience. He has power some years.

But, my follow-up question to Dusty would have been, “So, why did you insist on getting him more at bats tonight than Votto and Bruce?”

  190. Wild Bill says:

I believe that in these big games, the more aggressive team almost always wins. I hope the Bucs are ready to go after Cueto, and that our fans are ready to be aggressive (not ugly) as well.

    Feeling Wild about tonight!

  191. Alright, I’m doin my part here in South Central KY. I have my Raise the Jolly Roger shirt on, even though only my wife and I are home to watch. Everyone else is at work.

I’ll have to wear out the keypad on my phone texting updates.

Bring it home, all of you who are there. AW in SRO, 21, LAD and the rest of yunz. Zero defects tonight.

  192. Lad 9 says:

Heading to find an adult beverage or two on the North Shore and then to the game. It is a zoo down here. So nervous I can’t take it. Will try to check in from the game but with a 3G phone not likely, so Lunatics, lets BRING IT HOME. LETS DO IT!

LETS GO BUCS! (and as a public service announcement, dont feed the trolls. They will be out in force if we even go down a run). :)

  193. Jim S. says:

The fans will set the tone. Of that, I have no doubt. Some of the most fun, most energizing moments I have ever had at a pro game (and I have been to thousands) have occurred in the 4 games I have come in from out of town to watch the Bucs at PNC this year. They will do their part.

  194. Patrick(RI) says:

Should have a line on the # of posts tonight. Break 1,000?

  195. Jim S. says:

Save your voice, Lad. For you will surely need it later! Sending good vibes from my basement in Naperville, IL.

  196. Patrick(RI) says:

and the number of posters! Can’t all be at the game or in a bar.

  197. Jim S. says:

I like it, Lucky. Enjoy the game with Mrs. Lucky!

  198. Patrick(RI) says:

My beagle ate my hat some time ago, but I still have a Pirates shirt. Can you raise a jolly shirt?

  199. JRay3 says:

Lad 9 – Bring us home the W….enjoy the game I am soooooo envious, should be an amazing atmosphere!

  200. Jim S. says:

I love continuing to read about how everyone is planning on taking in the festivities tonight. Unfortunately, we can’t all be there in person.

  201. KenKopp says:

Wow, the DK blog world is especially overly active with Lunnies today. Something going on tonight I should know about? :-)

  202. blazer says:

I’ll take the under on line 1 for 100.

I’ll take line 3 for the 250. (Win,Win,Lose double odds)

  204. Brandie says:

    Hello Bugminster Fuller!

  205. toochca says:

Nothing to see here!! Move along!!

  206. pattonbb says:

    I’m with you, Groat.

  207. KenKopp says:

Thanks buddy. Thought I might be missing something. Well I’m sure there is something good on TV tonight. See ya”ll.

  208. Brandie says:

I would like 100 on the over for line #1 and 150 to take tjhe World Seroes

  209. toochca says:

I here there’s a good movie on TBS at 5pm!! It’s a Pirate movie, if you are into that!!

  210. toochca says:

I mean 8pm EST. I was using my PST

  211. JRay3 says:

I keep seeing pitchers on-line of all the fans on the Clemente Bridge, adorned in black, journalists calling the atmosphere unbelievable and we still have two hours to first pitch.

Truly a special evening about to unfold, Bucco Fever has reached FEVER PITCH!

  212. JRay3 says:

I keep seeing “pictures” not Liriano the pitcher.

  213. toochca says:

I mean 8pm EST. I was using my PST

  214. irishjim says:

Care to please share a link of said pics for those of us stuck at work?

  215. Jim S. says:

They were just talking on MLB Network about what an amazing scene is unfolding. They say it is about the first playoff game in 20 years. Have they not been watching the scene for the past 40 games or so this year at PNC? No MLB park compares at the present time.

  216. Jim S. says:

    I love it, tpb!

  217. JRay3 says:

I have copy and pasted the link address above, not sure how to link in here. I found this great shot of fans on Clemente Bridge on Pirates twitter site.

  218. KenKopp says:

Just checked it out! Holly Cow! Pirates vs Cincy in a playoff game. Back To The Future. I bet ole Three Rivers will be all decked out and filled to the gills tonight.

Man ain’t this been a fun season? Great way to start the blog DK. Nice line and nice photo of the “soil,” I haven’t been this excited for a game since the Pens game 7 in Detroit a few years ago.

    Go Bucs! Raise It Guys!

  219. toochca says:

    Thanks JRay3!!

  220. Bill Born says:

100 units on the under 2.5 RBI total of Morneau and Byrd.

  221. War Horse says:

Wearing my gold and black Pirates’ hat in front of my PC at home in Haslemere, England. My Iraqi-born cats crowding around, marking time, waiting for between inning snacks if the Bucs get a lead.

  222. War Horse says:

Can someone tell me what radio station will be broadcasting the game tonight? Just give me the call letters, please.

  223. Milo Hamilton says:

Here is the link. You’ll have to buy the subscription but maybe it’s discounted by now. The entire season package is only $19.99 and it gets you the audio of every game for every team from day 1 of spring training until game 7 of the World Series. Even if you don’t do it now you may want to keep it mind for next spring.

  224. toochca says:

  225. Brandie says:

    Hookers and penicillin for everyone!

  226. Steelag70 says:

Going to be watching the game down here in Dallas-Ft Worth with myrrh end who is a Reds fan….can’t wait!!

  227. toochca says:

  228. Steelag70 says:

    I meant “my friend”…dang auto-correct…

  229. Jim S. says:

    Love that pic, JRay.

  230. Brandie says:

    Hugs for the Dominator.

  231. War Horse says:

    Many thanks, toocha.
I first listened to Pirates’ games on KDKA with my father sitting in the car at night outside our home in Kings Mills, Ohio, in 1947, which is about when I became a Pirates’ fan.

  232. Jim S. says:

Most likely, MLB Network Radio, War. The game was on there last night.

  233. Jim S. says:

Wow! That would be extremely uncomfortable for me.

  234. Brandie says:

My husband says he likes his women like he likes his coffee… Black and a little bitter. I am both. I am dressed just right for the party.

    GO BUCS!

  235. Milo Hamilton says:

Our group’s original thought was to go on seniority as to who got the tickets tonight but then we regained our senses. Those who had never seen a playoff game went to the top of the list. So that puts me in front of the TV and I feel really good about that. And besides, I can wait til the weekend.

  236. Jim S. says:

Are you predicting plenty of “bunting” tonight at 3 Rivers for that festive scene tonight, Ken?

  237. toochca says:

Good luck, I hope you can find it and it’s not restricted.

  238. Milo Hamilton says:

    You wacky muppet you. :)

  239. Jim S. says:

Enjoy, War! Hopefully, a pint or two on hand as well.

  240. A man after my own heart. Our party or his? :P

    Any pictures available?

    (Kidding of course)

  241. OldSoldier21 says:

Let’s go Bucs! I don’t know why, but I have been thinking of Duke’s speech to Rocky (Rocky IV) in the corner after Rocky cuts Drago: “You see? You see? He’s not a machine, he’s a man, he’s a man. You’ve got to knock him out! All your strength, all your power, all your love. Everything you’ve got. Right now!”

  242. That’s right near Kings Island, right?

That’s not far from where Dave G. lives.

  243. War Horse says:

For anyone with a case of the nerves this evening, remember what happened at GABP on Saturday when Chuck was looking a bit shaky on the mound and the managerial brain trust went into postseason thinking mode. Mazzaro, Wilson, Watson, Melancon and Morris: Five pitchers, 4 2/3 innings, no runs, no hits, three walks, six Ks. No doubt about it.

Pittsburgh IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
    Morton 4.1 5 3 3 5 3 0 3.26
    Mazzaro 0.2 0 0 0 0 1 0 2.81
    Wilson, J 1.0 0 0 0 2 1 0 2.08
    Watson 1.0 0 0 0 0 1 0 2.39

    Morris, B 1.0 0 0 0 1 2 0 3.46

    Totals 9.0 5 3 3 8 9 0 3.27

  244. Jim S. says:

So, you split a season ticket package with friends, Milo? Very classy way to settle it tonight.

  245. Keith says:

    1. 100 on the UNDER.
    2. 250 on the WIN WIN WIN WIN x 4!

I figure if they make the series, they gotta win; haven’t lost since 1927.

  246. Wild Bill says:

    Great attitude, Milo!

  247. War Horse says:

I can watch the game live on TV over here, but I want to listen to the audio from a Bucco announcer. Will try to synch the pictures up with KDKA’s live broadcast. Thanks, Jim.

  248. War Horse says:

I don’t know, Lucky. Haven’t lived in Ohio since 1950. Am now in England.

  249. Jim S. says:

I remember getting out of school early for Game 3 of the ’79 series vs. Cincy. My dad picked me and my cousin up, and we drove to my cousin’s house to get his dad. We all went to the game together, and watched one of the all-time great Buccos teams rout the Reds that afternoon. I want to say Bert Be-Home-Bly-Eleven pitched that afternoon.

  250. Karen22 says:

  251. King’s Island is newer than 1950.

I think the Brady Bunch was there in the 70’s, though.

  252. War Horse says:

Milo, you are a saint. Your group’s action is a good omen for tonight.

  253. Haven’t seen a playoff game live since 1970 at TRS. We lost. Al Oliver made a great running catch in left. Bob Robertson played first. It was SRO. Don’t remember much else.

Junior in HS and my buddies and I went knowing we’d have to stand, but it was a brand new park. What the heck.

  254. irishjim says:

  255. Brandie says:

This is what happens when you let me off of the chain. Good Evening Revolution and M-eye-low! :-)

  256. War Horse says:

I was there that day, Jim, taking my Dad to his very first Pirates game in Pittsburgh. We had seen others in Cincy and New York over the years, but had never been to Pittsburgh. Dad flew up from Sarasota and I came out from L.A. Seeing that series, he said later, was “the best experience of my life.”

  257. War Horse says:

Sorry, Jim, I thought you meant the three against Baltimore in the ’79 WS.

  258. Brandie says:

You truly are a class act!

  259. Brandie says:

Welcome! What a great rallying cry. Thanks!

  260. Milo Hamilton says:

First grade, Miss Culp was a big Pirates fan so she commandeered the only TV in the school. I vaguely remember Ty Cline being the villain.

  261. Milo Hamilton says:

Hardly, but I hope you’re right.

  262. Brandie says:

    I just got goosebumps!

  263. Jim S. says:

I did not get to the Series, War. I remember bartering with my dad, and he said he would try to get tickets for either the playoffs or series, but not both. My cousin and I did not want to risk losing out altogether, so we said we wanted tickets vs. Reds.

  264. Milo Hamilton says:

I heard tonight that both teams were warned before the 1st game last weekend in Cincinnati. I would assume the same would happen tonight. Sheriff Joe West.

  265. Jim S. says:

    Great story, Lucky.

  266. Brandie says:

    Good Evening Friends.

  267. bman says:

Line 1: 100 on the UNDER
Bonus line: 75 on the Win Wild Card, lose NLDS

  268. toochca says:

If it happened, it still didn’t stop them from doing it!! If they were warned, no one was removed from the game(s).

  269. Jim S. says:

Evenin’, ma’am!! (Tipping gold Bucs hat).

  270. Jim S. says:

    For the love of ….

  271. pattonbb says:

My Aunt and Uncle are at the game. They’ve had season tickets since the early 70’s. I just got a text from her that read, “Words can’t describe how crazy it is down here. 1979-esque”.

    Hope everyone has fun tonight.

Lets Go Bucs! Lets Go Bucs! Lets Go Bucs! Lets Go Bucs! Lets Go Bucs!

  272. OldSoldier21 says:

Thanks, Brandie. I was a frequent poster (AllArmyRetired) on the PG Bucco Blog when DK was there. Rarely post, but this is a very special occasion. One I didn’t think I would see again, in my lifetime……..

  273. JohninOshkosh says:

I popped in for a sec.

War Horse, you won’t be able to listen to the game even if you go to KDKA website. It will be blacked out. Only way to get it is to pay the subscription through MLB or through pay satellite radio.

  274. Hell Unleashed says:

    Keep Calm; Buc On!

  275. toochca says:

DK posted a picture (on Instagram) from inside PNC with the quote “Among early arrivals, Cutch’s Blackout appears to have taken hold. Will be an odd sight”

  276. Brandie says:

We have fun here. You will always have a home and a welcome from this here blog’s very own Animal.

  277. pattonbb says:

Joe West and Dan Iassogna together. This could be bad.

  278. John Lease says:

    Coffee is naturally bitter!

I’m assuming the fetal position for this game, hope to unwind in joyous celebration in several hours.

  279. toochca says:

And thank you for your service to our country!!

  280. Brandie says:

Got your Mojo working Jimster? Must say many Hail Jandys to make sure we pull this one out.

  281. John Lease says:

My last in person post season game was game 4 of the 1979 World Series.

Tekulve blew that game, but I’ve forgiven him.

I never have been to a NLCS game, or division game, obviously. If they win tonight, I’ll make Sunday’s game with my youngest son, if he can leave fantasy football alone for one frigging Sunday.

I’m so, so so nervous. I want a win over the frigging Reds in the worst way. We have loads of payback due to them, and I’d like to see a downpayment tonight.

  282. irishjim says:

Here is that picture. So far so good. Beat em Bucs!

  283. Vette60 says:

    Line 1 – 100 Over
Line 2 – All in, 250 on the Winning the whole thing!

    Beat em Bucs!

  284. Brandie says:

    Here’s to rapture for you.

  287. Brandie says:

    Everybody Wang Chung Tonight!

  288. Jim S. says:

I do, Brandie. The family and I will be hunkered down. I need to jump out to pick up one of my daughters from chorus practice at school. But, we’ll all be seated in front of the tube in time. I have a good feeling.

  289. Jim S. says:

Welcome, Old Soldier. You only pop in once in awhile. Glad you picked tonight.

  290. toochca says:

    Thanks War Horse!!

  291. Dom says:

    My post season predictions
    Reds over pirates
    Rays over Cleveland
    Reds over cardinals
    Dodgers over Atlanta
    Oakland over tigers
    Rays over red Sox
    Reds over Dodgers
    Oakland over rays
    Oakland over reds in ws

  292. irishjim says:

The KDKA feed is silent thus far on the MLB site, so I am dealing with the Cincy pregame guys.

  293. Jim S. says:

    Thanks, War.

  294. Jason81 says:

100 on the UNDER for tonight’s line.

250 on “Win the whole F@$%ing thing”

  295. JohninOshkosh says:

You are not missing anything on TBS. Awful.

  296. Jim S. says:

Cutting out now. Good luck, Bucs! Enjoy this win tonight, everyone!

  297. JohninOshkosh says:

Anybody know who is singing the anthem? It’s not on Fox so we know it won’t be an American Idol reject.

  298. Jandy says:

Who’s brainfart was it to broadcast the game on TBS????

  299. Jandy says:

    Hey Brandecita :)

  300. War Horse says:

    Mrs. McCutchen.

  301. toochca says:

I’m listening to it now on MLB At Bat.

  302. JohninOshkosh says:

Part of the contract. I think MLB Network even has some playoff games.

I’m just hoping Brian Anderson is not calling the game. He’s the Brewers TV guy and he is about as exciting as an insurance seminar.

  303. JohninOshkosh says:

    Really ? That’s nice.

  304. OldSoldier21 says:

Thanks, toochca. It was an honor to wear the uniform, and do my small part to support and defend the Constitution…..

  305. Milo Hamilton says:

Ernie Johnson, unfortunately without Charles Barkley.

  306. War Horse says:

Hurdle on his pre-game show said “Grilli is the closer (tonight).”

  307. Jandy says:

    I’ve been praying all day!

  308. toochca says:

Irishjim, How did you enjoy Marty and the cowboy?!

  309. Jandy says:

    awesome !!!!

  310. JohninOshkosh says:

I like Ernie. That would be great if Sir Charles did it, “I may be wrong but I doubt it.”

  311. OldSoldier21 says:

I know you guys have fun! I read the blog every day. You are a wild woman and have a great sense of humor! I get quite a few laughs from the asylum inmates……

  312. Jandy says:

Ha! That’s what hubby calls me…but he says it in a sexy voice ;)

  313. OldSoldier21 says:

It is a good night to share with Pirate fans……

  314. Jandy says:

We are indeed honored to have you, Soldier Man :)
Make sure not to be scarce, hear?

  315. Dom says:

    10 minutes to go.

  316. JohninOshkosh says:

I wish we got the player introductions live. Instead these TBS bozos are talking about themselves and Pedro is being incomprehensible.

  317. theplanisworking says:

Pray for my friend ! ;)

  318. Jandy says:

How you holdin’ up, Dom? Hope you’re ok, friend :)

  319. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I don’t know about you, but I’m about done with all the pre-game hype!

  320. Jandy says:

    Hey it’s Plandanimal :)

  321. Stuart says:

    R. Martin getting some love on the TBS preamp. Most of the panel picking Bucs.

    Killions iced let’s GO!

  322. Jandy says:

    Dayum right!!!

  323. Dom says:

Top of the world. Might not stay that way depending on how the game goes. Thanks for asking!

  324. JohninOshkosh says:

Wow. What a moment for the ages! Too bad television drowns out the crowd. It just looks insane.

  325. Jandy says:

    woop woop!!!!

  326. Milo Hamilton says:

Sure it’s been a long time for the Pirates, but as fans, we Pittsburghers are well trained. we know how to do this.

  327. Brandie says:

    93.7….THE PLAN!!!!!!!!!!

  341. theplanisworking says:

    Evening ladies………..

    Lets get a W !!! :D

  342. Brandie says:

Let’s show em’ how it’s done.

  343. Dom says:

Not a bad start for Liriano

  344. OldSoldier21 says:

    STFD Choo!

  345. The Justice Avenger says:

  352. The Justice Avenger says:

    PNC in a Frenzy!

  353. Jandy says:

    YES! 3 down :)

  354. OldSoldier21 says:

3 up and 3 down. Just what the doctor ordered!

  355. JohninOshkosh says:

  356. Jandy says:

Now is the time for Bucco Bats to be HOT!

  357. JRay3 says:

A magnificent nine pitch inning from Frankie who quickly gets team in dugout. Time to break out the bats.

  358. pattonbb says:

    Liriano looks filthy.

If you can call a pitcher filthy after seeing only 9 pitches.

  359. Jandy says:

PNC?? He!! I’m in a frenzy lol

  360. KenKopp says:

Sorry Jim for the wait. Wife locked her keys in the car. Told her It’s playoff time dear we gotta get our A game going the next few weeks.

    Nice first inning for Frankie.

    Nice to know ya Jim

  361. Jandy says:

    Yes, yes you can!

  362. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I know I’m a tad late, but they haven’t hit yet.

    Line 1: 100 on under

Line 2: all in on WS!!!

  363. JohninOshkosh says:

I think an early lead is crucial. Like Darling or Ripken said, all the pressure is on the Reds. Dusty doesn’t handle pressure well. If they get behind, I suspect they will crumble.

  364. theplanisworking says:

You dont have as much money as PNC…… just sayin’ ;)

  365. theplanisworking says:

You dont have as much money as PNC…… just sayin’ ;)

  366. The Justice Avenger says:

    good D on that one…

  367. Jandy says:

I wish Clint would let Marte BAT

  368. theplanisworking says:

    + many

  369. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Just checking in everyone.

    Happy Buctober.

    Final score: 2-1 Pirates.

  370. The Justice Avenger says:

  371. Brandie says:

You gave to our country, so we give to you. Stick around long enough and I will give you several nicknames!

  372. cmat0829 says:

Crowd is just dripping with intensity…waiting for something great to happen…lets go bucs…..

Ernie Johnson is an awful play by play announcer…. #FREENEVERETT

  373. The Justice Avenger says:

All we need is one more than them, Ryan…I’ll take 2-1…

  374. Brandie says:

He probably makes cherry turnover sound like a come on!

  375. Jandy says:

    Cutch makin Cueto work…good!

  376. Dom says:

    One on!

  377. Brandie says:

Seventies naughty movie music plays in the background.

  378. cmat0829 says:

love the pitchtrax graphics… west looks pretty decent so far behind the plate..

  379. Jandy says:

    And he walks!

  380. OldSoldier21 says:

Cutch needs to line back through the mound, ala Clemente, after Gibson gave him some chin music. Gibson got his leg broken for sitting Clemente down with that high and tight pitch.

  381. cmat0829 says:

oops spoke too soon, strike one to morneau was way outside.

  382. Brandie says:

I may just have to go watch this!

  383. JohninOshkosh says:

This is why we got you, Justin. This moment. Right here.

  384. pattonbb says:

Hate to sound like a super homer, but Joe West has a terrible strike zone tonight.

  385. Jandy says:

Well, we did more than they did….but still…

  386. cmat0829 says:

if this were a fight between the starting pitchers, round 1 scored to Liriano…looked much sharper than cueto.

  387. Brandie says:

    A Rich Frothy Frenzy!

  388. OldSoldier21 says:

Scoreless after one in the history books.

  389. JohninOshkosh says:

    Hi Ryan!

  390. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, I thought the Pirates hit him well and got a good look at him.

  391. Jandy says:

    STFD Phillips!

  392. JohninOshkosh says:

I prefer Samantha Ponder to Graig Sager.

  393. cmat0829 says:

oh god, now craig sager joins the telecast mess that is TBS… may have to turn the sound off at some point, just dont want to miss the crowd noise…..

  394. Dom says:

I thought it was odd that they decided to add that graphic all game. It second guesses the umpires call. Not saying I’m opposed to it.

  395. Milo Hamilton says:

I worry about Frazier & Cozart. Bruce is 0 for 11 against Liriano. Make that 0 for 12.

  396. cmat0829 says:

idea / request for sports broadcasters…offer an ‘announcer mute’ option… keep the crowd noise but dump the announcers… would work for Monday Night Football too…

  397. Jandy says:

    Yowsah! Nice K!

  398. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Liriano is money right now. Still early of course, but if he continues to keep the ball down, its going to be a long night for the Reds.

  399. cmat0829 says:

jay bruce looks completely lost vs. liriano… lovin’ it!!!!!

  400. Jandy says:

    Yeah frazier is sneaky

  401. OldSoldier21 says:

Papa Francisco dealing strikes. Muy Bueno!

  402. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Frazier for me.

  403. Jandy says:

he!! I prefer Steigy to Graig

  404. Brandie says:

  438. Brandie says:

    WATCHING!!!!! MARTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  439. Milo Hamilton says:

    Somebody’s rattled.

  440. JRay3 says:

Bucs squaring up Cueto early, Martin goes hard as PNC rings out C U E T O, Homefield advantage in full force, 2-0 Buccos!!!

  441. JohninOshkosh says:

Cueto getting hammered!!!! Crowd is in his head with Cuet-o chants. A MLB pitcher completely rattled.

  444. OldSoldier21 says:

  445. Brandie says:

  446. Dom says:

Think the fans got under Johnny s skin

  447. Brandie says:

    OH YES!!!!!!!!!!

  448. Jandy says:

    Hell to the YEAH!

  449. JRay3 says:

    Martin goes hard and “YARD”

  450. Brandie says:

Dom with the spot on statement!

  451. The Justice Avenger says:

And the crowd will NOT let up now, Milo….

  452. Jandy says:

    I think you’re right Dom :)

  453. theplanisworking says:

    Just a liitttttttttttttle bit!

  454. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  455. J Walter Weatherman says:

Fans getting under Cueto’s skin and he’s off his game. Awesome atmosphere – everything I was hoping from the fans.

  456. JRay3 says:

PNC is bonkers and it clearly is getting to Johnny.

  457. Drew71 says:

I usually don’t think The 12th Man thingee works.

What the Thunder do EYE know?

  458. The Justice Avenger says:

As I just said to Milo…the fans will NOT let up now….this will continue…

  459. Brandie says:

  460. Dom says:

    Francisco with a base hit!

  461. theplanisworking says:

Dusty may order a beanball on him……………. ;)

  462. The Gunner says:

How sweet it is!!! Pour it on Buccos. And how about Papa Francisco’s bat!!

  463. Jandy says:

    Liriano YES!

  464. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Fans are getting to him.

You don’t see this atmosphere anywhere in baseball.

  465. Drew71 says:

Effing Dusty Baker. Liriano’s single was for you.

  466. JohninOshkosh says:

Dusty better call Macy’s and get Leake over to the bullpen.

  467. Jandy says:

Marte check swings and gets a single :) WOOP!!!

  468. The Justice Avenger says:

    Yo Dusty…you look a bit confused….

  469. Brandie says:

I am actually sitting in my living room saying Cueto! Cueto!

  470. cmat0829 says:

oh, for a dagger by Pittsburgh Neil right about now….

  471. pattonbb says:

    great catch

  472. Jandy says:

    dang, nice catch by Frazier…

  473. The Justice Avenger says:

Tony Sanchez catch all over again…wow…

  474. cmat0829 says:

dang swung at a pitcher’s pitch out of the zone and great play by frazier.

  475. theplanisworking says:

    Think Dustball regrets starting Cueto?
He is clearly spooked by the rabid Pittsburgh crowd!

  476. Dom says:

Nice catch for Frazier. Hopefully it won’t give the reds momentum.

  477. Jandy says:

lol Hubby actually put in ear plugs LMAO

  478. cmat0829 says:

what an atmosphere at PNC… have goosebumps 1800 miles away

  479. Drew71 says:

Honest to Pirate Pete. When Byrd came up, I texted my son: B2B HRs.

    I was wrong.

  480. JRay3 says:

Quite the grab by Frazier to get Reds out of inning. Time for Frankie to fire another zero to not allow any momentum swing and get middle of lineup right back at rattled Cueto.

  481. Drew71 says:

Have to give it up to a tremendous catch to end the inning.

  482. Jandy says:

    nah..not even close…but still nice

  483. Hell Unleashed says:

He cannot decide which Pirate to bean…

  484. JohninOshkosh says:

Even Darling is shocked. You just don’t see veteran MLB pitchers rattled by a crowd that often. This game has already produced an enduring memory.

  485. The Justice Avenger says:

thought of that, too, dom…but if frankie can get a quick inning…that will help…

  486. Jandy says:

But not far off, Drewster :)

  487. Brandie says:

Hubby actually said I could go to a bar or go downstairs to watch. I was just going to listen to the game. He wanted me to watch…provided I took the dog with me so he could sleep!

  488. JRay3 says:

From out here in AZ as well so do I. just awesome.

  489. The Justice Avenger says:

  490. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Tip your hat to Frazier. Nice catch.

    Now suck it Frazier.

  491. Brandie says:

Credit where credit is due…Cuz we’re classy n’at!

  492. The Justice Avenger says:

my wife is sitting here next to me hollering her head off!!

  493. Brandie says:

  494. theplanisworking says:

Have I mentioned lately I hate Dustball and the Reds ?

Ok, I just mentioned it. :)

  495. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    I called Martin’s

  496. The Gunner says:

Crusty Dusty can suck one, too

  497. Jandy says:

ha! tell him to go to bed LOL

  498. JohninOshkosh says:

All these Reds groundballs are a very, very good sign.

  499. Jandy says:

    9 up 9 down for Francisco :)

  500. Drew71 says:

    No fooling.

In honor of the playoff game, I had an appointment with a sports medicine doctor who shot me up with steroids. Really.

Nothing serious, BTW. Just dealing with the pain of a former runner.

But Thunder Rage is coursing through me.

  501. The Justice Avenger says:

no, but you can say it again, plan!

  502. JRay3 says:

On Pirates pregame Greg Beown asked Cutch so what do you think with Liriano on the mound, his response I better find a comfortable lawn chair.

Through three the entire Pirates OF has been in lawn chairs as Frankie serves up another 1-2-3 inning.

    go Bucs!

  503. OldSoldier21 says:

It wasn’t that great of a catch, I’ve done made similar catches with a beer in my other hand, with other fans fighting me for the ball. ;)

  504. Jandy says:

  505. Brandie says:

Brandon Filthlips can suck it! Aroldis Hookers and Shame Chapman can suck it !

  506. Jandy says:

    sounds kinky!!!

  507. JRay3 says:

    + defense

  508. The Justice Avenger says:

just got a text from a buddy who said the pirates just had a “ZZ TOP inning”. Double Z’s. LOL! Great line.

  509. J Walter Weatherman says:

28 pitches for Liriano through 3 innings. 37 pitches for Cueto through 2. Good signs for Buccos.

  510. Jandy says:

    Cutch earns a base!

  511. Brandie says:

Cueto doesn’t know whether to wipe his watch or wind his butt!

  512. The Justice Avenger says:

thanks for the update on the pitch count, walter….

  513. JohninOshkosh says:

Darling said he could count on his hand the number of times he has seen a manager go over to a pitcher and talk to him between innings.

  514. theplanisworking says:

OK, I hate Dustball and the Reds! :D

  515. The Justice Avenger says:

    man…did justin want that one…

  516. The Justice Avenger says:

    heard that, john….interesting

  517. Brandie says:

Amen! Twenty plus years of frustration unleashed in an unbridled froth of ecstasy!

  518. OldSoldier21 says:

“done made” – my time in Alabama is coming back to haunt me.

  519. Jandy says:

  520. Jandy says:

i just told Hubby that lol

  521. The Justice Avenger says:

say what, plan….? again, please? lol!

  522. JohninOshkosh says:

Blackhawks lead the Caps 1-0 in first period.

    I’m being humorous here. lol

  523. Brandie says:

Line out by Morneau..,I think he is due.

  524. Jandy says:

  525. JRay3 says:

    That was Greg Brown

  526. Jandy says:

    what she said!

  527. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Or Joe West’s back side

  528. theplanisworking says:

Man, he hits that ball really, really hard!

  529. Brandie says:

  530. The Justice Avenger says:

    fans 1 – dusty 0

  531. Jandy says:

    say it again, Planimal :)

  532. J Walter Weatherman says:

Dusty: “Hit the next guy up”

  533. JRay3 says:

Byrd rips one and Bucs back in business with runners on corners, come on EL Toro RBI time.

    Reds pen already up.

  534. The Gunner says:

    STFD Crusty

  535. The Justice Avenger says:

    ??? LOL. John….

  536. Dom says:

How amazing would a homer be

  537. JohninOshkosh says:

No way was that an error.

  538. Brandie says:

    Say It Again, Plan!

  539. J Walter Weatherman says:

Pedro gets it done. He’s been looking good at the plate lately.

  540. Dom says:

    I’ll take an RBI

  541. JRay3 says:

Pedro does his job, Sac fly and it’s 3-0 good guys.

  542. The Justice Avenger says:

man, do i wish i was there tonight. of all the games i have been to at pnc park…this is one i would love to be at.

  543. The Gunner says:

    Way to go, Pedro!!

  544. theplanisworking says:

    Sac Fly works!

    3-0 Good Guys!

    Pirates 3, Crustys 0 ;)

  545. Brandie says:

    Cueto is Soffff!

  546. Dom says:

Yeah it was hit so hard it’s hard to blame that on the fielder

  547. JohninOshkosh says:

Remember when posters were concerned about the Pirates inability to get sac. flies ? Seems like a million years ago.

  548. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    This is amazing…..

  549. Brandie says:

Crowd needs to chant COZART next,

  550. Dom says:

    Come on Barmes

  551. Jandy says:

    Go Hawks :)

  552. The Justice Avenger says:

    i AM STARTING A D U S T Y!!!! D U S T Y!!!! CHANT

  553. Hell Unleashed says:

  555. Brandie says:

Come as you are, Baby Doll!

  556. Jandy says:

    Oh well…Bucs 3, Reds 0 after 3 :)

  557. Brandie says:

    Hell has been unleashed!

  558. JohninOshkosh says:

    Me too, patton.

  559. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  560. toochca says:

As long as they keep adding on…

  561. The Justice Avenger says:

  562. Brandie says:

  563. Jandy says:

  564. OldSoldier21 says:

I like to see them adding on. So far, everything is proceeding according to my evil plan…..

  565. Jandy says:

  566. JohninOshkosh says:

Well, I’ve got to get my kids bathed and put to bed, so will have to DVR the rest of this. Seems like a team of destiny. Have fun you crazies….

    I knew I shouldn’t had kids.

  567. J Walter Weatherman says:

This is why the series this past weekend was so important. Home crowd having a definite impact on this game.

  568. The Justice Avenger says:

Guessing our leader is at the yard? Dejan?

  569. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  570. OldSoldier21 says:

Choo hit by pitch, shocking isn’t it?

  571. Brandie says:

    Need a nice DP ball.

  572. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Not on purpose. Bad timing there.

  573. cmat0829 says:

wouldnt surprise me if cueto is done for the night… i know i’d pull him if i were managing.

ernie johnson is the worst play by play announcer doing baseball i have EVER heard in my life. just awful in every respect. this is the best MLB / TBS can do????

  574. Hell Unleashed says:

    Release the Buc’n

  580. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Votto completely lost up there.

    Need a DP.

  581. Jandy says:

Oh yes, a nice timely K!

  582. cmat0829 says:

VOTTO looks L-O-S-T. good K to get there for Frankie… now a DP from the jackass and back in the dugout!!!

  583. cmat0829 says:

Marting with an incredible save on a 55 foot slider.. Ernie’s call: “that was inside”.

  584. Brandie says:

    Give em’ Nyquil!

  585. The Gunner says:

That’s what the real Gunner would be calling for now!

  586. cmat0829 says:

Brandon swinging for a HR…keep it low and you can turn 2 or strike him out

  587. Dom says:

    Two outs!

  588. Cobra39 says:

Great stop by Martin and a popup for two outs. Get out of it with no runs, Francisco.

  589. cmat0829 says:

  590. Jandy says:

    ok 2 outs…one more…

  591. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Who cares!

    We’re winning.

  592. Jandy says:

    I cannot stand Phillips!

  593. J Walter Weatherman says:

This game needs Gus Johnson. :)

  594. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    He’s at SS

  595. pattonbb says:

    I hate Jay Bruce.

  596. Drew71 says:

    How many does Hurdle get?

  597. OldSoldier21 says:

    Reds on the board. :(

  598. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Nice hitting by Bruce.

  599. Cobra39 says:

If our 3B had any range that would’ve been an out!

  600. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Good piece of hitting though.

  601. cmat0829 says:

wow, adjustment made by Bruce..he actually hits it the OTHER WAY…for a single, RBI. shocked.

  602. Brandie says:

Let’s get that one back in the home half!

  603. Milo Hamilton says:

    Key AB right here.

  604. Jandy says:

  605. The Justice Avenger says:

  609. Drew71 says:

  610. Cobra39 says:

Loud strike, nothing more. Still a 2 run lead. Let’s get some more in the bottom half.

  611. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Outstanding pitch….and block by Martin.

That’s how ya do it kids.

  612. OldSoldier21 says:

Okay, out of the inning with limited damage. Let’s get that run back fellas!

  613. cmat0829 says:

and that’s it on the sound for me, Ernie Johnson makes Tim Neverett sound like Red Barber for God sakes… his call on that foul HR was abysmal. I can’t take it anymore.

  614. Brandie says:

Yeah…Who has a first name for a last name anyway?!

  615. JRay3 says:

Absolutely huge K of Frazier as Liriano limits damage to just one. Bats just need to keep chipping away on Cueto who does not have his “A” stuff.

  616. Jandy says:

Minimal damage…now get some more runs, Bucs!

  617. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  618. KenKopp says:

    Nickname Girl! Hello!

  619. Cobra39 says:

Sarcasm is not allowed? Just trying to lighten things up since this is the most tense I’ve been watching a Pirate game in a long time.

  620. The Gunner says:

I don’t know why they don’t let Brownie work with the TBS announcers. That’s how they used to do it back in the day.

  621. theplanisworking says:

    Just another game, huh?
I dont see what all the excitement is about……………….. ;) ;)

  622. Jandy says:

    sweatin it out!

  623. KenKopp says:

    Come on Marte

  626. The Gunner says:

What a puss on Crusty Dusty!

  627. The Justice Avenger says:

    Dusty is such a BSer…

  628. Dom says:

Johnny coming up on 60 pitches

  629. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I’d say Martes timing is OK

  630. The Justice Avenger says:

    GO FANS! Keep it up!

  631. Jandy says:

    and Cueto is done!

  632. OldSoldier21 says:

Stick a fork in Cueto, he is well done…..

  633. Dom says:

Johnny be not so good, today

  634. Brandie says:

It’s OK Double K. Matte hits a sizzler off the ump and Cueto is gone!!!! Fresh meat!

  635. theplanisworking says:

    Bye Bye Cueto!

Now, get the toothpick outta there!

  636. Dom says:

    Johnny be gone!

  637. JRay3 says:

And the Marte Parte gets Cueto removed from the game very early and the Bucs will have ample opportunity off Reds pen tonight.

  638. The Justice Avenger says:

wonder how many scouts the cardinals sent in for this game?

  639. The Gunner says:

And he has a face only a mother could love

  640. pattonbb says:

Adios Cueto. A las duchas antes de tiempo.

  641. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Say hello to Sean Marshall

  642. The Justice Avenger says:

  643. Cobra39 says:

    Yeah, sure.

  644. Brandie says:

  645. Jandy says:

Even SHE doesn’t call him precious ;)

  646. Steve J. Smith says:

Just joining in finally. Awesome game so far with the 2 shots by the Bucs and the added run last inning. I’m loving the serenade by the crowd for each Reds pitcher and batter at times. Get some more runs Bucs!

  647. Brandie says:

Greetings and Welcome to the Mosh Pit!

  648. J Walter Weatherman says:

Craig Sager and Pittsburgh are like oil and water.

  649. Jandy says:

  655. theplanisworking says:

    5 more feet Neil !!!!!!!!!!!

    4-0 Good Guys !!!!

  656. J Walter Weatherman says:

And Walker gets a RH double. The stars are aligned.

  657. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I thought he got all of it. Just missed

    Great AB

  658. Dom says:

  659. The Gunner says:

    The Pittsburgh kid comes thru!!

  660. JRay3 says:

The Pittsburgh kid with his first ever hit off Marshall and gets Bucs run right back, 4-1 Buccos!

  661. Steve J. Smith says:

PRNW almost had the third shot of the night, but at least it was a run scoring double. Come on Cutch!! M-V-P! Their scared of yeah.

  662. Cobra39 says:

Nice stat: 69-17 when the Bucs score 4 or more.

  663. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, Brinz !!!

  664. OldSoldier21 says:

WALKER doubles in Marte from the right side. Did just type that?

  665. Jandy says:

    woop woop!!!

  666. Hell Unleashed says:

    Tonight’s the nite!

  667. Dom says:

I’m surprised Baker is walking mccutchen. Usually he calls for his pitchers to throw at his head if he wants him on.

  668. theplanisworking says:

Is Duncansville the Saraha desert? ;)

  669. Jandy says:

    darn right Dom!

  674. Dom says:

    Good at bat for morneau

  675. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Apparently, pitchers are now Marines to Ernie.

  676. Brandie says:

Twenty plus years..we did not lose the love!

  677. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  678. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Tried. But always came back.

  679. Dom says:

Marshall up to 20 pitches already.

  680. Brandie says:

    Morneau with the Walk!

  681. J Walter Weatherman says:

Professional baseball hitting by Justin Morneau.

  682. Dom says:

    And he is gone!

  683. OldSoldier21 says:

Morneau draws a walk to load the bases…… Another pitcher to get a hot shower…..

  684. theplanisworking says:

Dustball looks like he needs a hug.

    I volunteer to bean him…………

  685. Jandy says:

Dusty is getting a lot of exercise tonight.

  686. Steve J. Smith says:

Great AB by Justin! Bases juiced, now bring them home Byrdman!

  687. JRay3 says:

What a great AB by Morneau who shows solid pitch recognition and does not swing at Marshall’s stuff off plate.

Chance to blow game wide open here.

  688. Barb says:

Hi everyone. I am in my hotel watching this absobucnlutely fantabulous game.

  689. Brandie says:

Hope is quite the task mistress!

  690. pattonbb says:

    I thought the same thing.

  691. The Gunner says:

I think you are on to something, Wally

  692. Steve J. Smith says:

  693. Jandy says:

    Go for it!

  694. Hell Unleashed says:

Hoping for another word from the Byrd. Speak to us my man!

  695. Jandy says:

  696. The Justice Avenger says:

blow this thing wide open marlon!

  697. Brandie says:

  698. toochca says:

  699. Steve J. Smith says:

  700. Cobra39 says:

  701. toochca says:

    I’ll take that too!!

  702. The Justice Avenger says:

    P H I L L I P S!

  703. pattonbb says:

Brandon Phillips can’t handle the pressure either.

    I hate Brandon Phillips.

  704. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    That’ll work.

Not a fan of Phillips. Choke

  705. J Walter Weatherman says:

I smell something big from Pedro here …

  706. theplanisworking says:

    Hi Barb!
You join us, and asshat Phillips bobbles the ball!
Hope you are enjoying the Mouse.

  707. Dom says:

    El toro

  708. JRay3 says:

Aww Phillips with the bobble costs the Reds another run as he muffs a would be DP ball, 5-1 Buccos!

  709. The Gunner says:

Joe Morgan is probably thinking “I coulda had that”. even today!

  710. J Walter Weatherman says:

Pedro is locked in. Just bad luck there.

  711. The Justice Avenger says:

  712. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Agree. Even under JR I had hope.

  713. Brandie says:

  714. Jandy says:

and he woulda! I cannot stand Phillips!

  715. Drew71 says:

All you folks at the game. Look up to the press box.

Dejan usually goes all gold for his face paint.

But we need to know if he joined the Black Out.

Yeah, I know. That didn’t work out so well for Ted Danson.

But he played a retired baseball pitcher. So see? This is a baseball post after all.

  716. Jandy says:

  717. Brandie says:

Heart is pounding. Good thing I lifted today!

  718. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

No need to bean. Theyre kicking his butt.

    Even better

  719. Drew71 says:

We oughta do this every season. Don’t you think?

  720. Jandy says:

C’mon Dejan, post an instagram of yourself :)

  721. theplanisworking says:

    Look more carefully.
The big black pom-pom? Thats his.
He bought it when he visited the big duck today.

  722. The Justice Avenger says:

Great lines Brandie and Jandy. :)

  723. Brandie says:

Oh Drew-k. You have such a moist sense of humor!

  724. Jandy says:

    I’ll vote for that referendum

  725. theplanisworking says:

    I could bean Dustball 365 days a year. ;)

  726. CWalton_67 says:

Go Bucs. It’s a great day for Pittsburgh.

  727. Drew71 says:

Next half inning. Talk about draft picks? Or who to trade for prospects?

  728. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Pressure off Frankie now.

Just go after hitters. Let them get themselves out.

  729. Brandie says:

You are much stronger than I, sir!

  730. The Justice Avenger says:

  731. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Seriously, what’s the duck about?

  732. The Justice Avenger says:

  733. Brandie says:

Must keep that duck for the entire playoffs! Kiss the Duck for luck!

  734. Barb says:

I am just loving this. It has been to long. Wore my Pirate gear in Epcot today and was getting high fives and Go Bucs from so many people.

  735. Brandie says:

I’ll be take complain about how we’re winning for 100 Alex.

  736. The Justice Avenger says:

a four story duck sits at point state park. google it, ryan.

  737. theplanisworking says:

It is the project of a Dutch artist, and he sends it all over the world.
I dont know why………. maybe just to endear good feelings?

Pittsburgh cultural trust paid to bring it here.
    Again, I dont know why.

  738. The Justice Avenger says:

  739. Brandie says:

Twenty plus years and I am giggling like a school girl!

  740. Dom says:

Cincinnati will be on their fourth pitcher but the Pirates have only used Francisco thus far.

  741. Jandy says:

Parros from Montreal and Orr from Toronto get into a fight…Parros trips over Orr and lands face first on the ice…knocking himself out….truth

  742. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I’ll have to. I’ve seen a bunch of pics of it. Seems dumb to me.

  743. The Justice Avenger says:

    frankie…frankie…making me a bit nervous…

  744. pattonbb says:

Joe West is getting worse as the game goes on.

  745. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I say that all the time

  746. Dom says:

    Double play!!!

  747. The Justice Avenger says:

    ok…thanks…frankie…and pedro…

  748. Jandy says:

YES! Nicely turned DP….they got your back Frankie!

  749. Cobra39 says:

Pitcher’s best friend gets us into the back half of the game.

  750. pattonbb says:

That was an absolute rocket Pedro unleashed to 2b.

  751. Brandie says:

The Evil Plan Is Working? Better let Hippo know his darker, more bitter brother is here.

  752. JRay3 says:

Liriano makes the pitch and Pedro makes the turn, big inning ending DP as Frankie foils the Reds again.

  753. Jandy says:

    someone bean him!

  754. J Walter Weatherman says:

Huge DP. Liriano pitch count still just at 60. Starting to lose command, but would be great to get another 2 innings out of him.

  755. OldSoldier21 says:

5-4-3 double play and the inning is over. Way to hang ZERO on the Frankie!

  756. Jandy says:

  757. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Representing Washington, PA with grace

  758. WVStarship says:

  759. pattonbb says:

    40,487 in attendance tonight.

  760. Jandy says:

    dunderheads lol

  761. toochca says:

Nice job Bucco Fans!! And they are LOUD too!!

  762. Steve J. Smith says:

40,487 at the game tonight. Largest ever!

  763. Jandy says:

    holy crap!

  764. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Rays or Injuns tomorrow guys? I’ll take the Rays

  765. Jandy says:

    barmes with a hit :)

  766. Brandie says:

    Barnes with the knock!

  767. The Justice Avenger says:

my wife just said that when we got married 10 years ago…we never thought we’d be sitting here enjoying this. :)

  768. theplanisworking says:

    You rang

  769. JRay3 says:

And who says Pittsburgh is not a baseball town, tonight the top team in all of Pittsburgh, what an amazing showing,

  770. Brandie says:

When we do it, we do it up right!

  771. J Walter Weatherman says:

They could’ve knocked each other out and it would’ve been a win for mankind.

  772. JRay3 says:

That Clint Hurdle sure knows what he is doing.

  773. theplanisworking says:

Liriano is a great bunting pitcher.
All the more amazing because he came from the AL.

  774. Brandie says:

    She said bean, not beat!

  775. Brandie says:

    Rays for me too!

  776. JRay3 says:

Gotta go with Tampa as well.

  777. Jandy says:

Marte gives it his best shot…and it’s a b it short lol

  778. theplanisworking says:

    Oh, apologies, Brandie! :)

  779. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Ha! I agree.

    That hit was bonus.

  780. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    He just missed that

  781. The Justice Avenger says:

Tribe for me, Ryan. I am a Terry Francona fan. And, I lived in Cleveland for 3 years and kind of followed the Tribe at that old barn of a stadium.

  782. The Justice Avenger says:

  783. Jandy says:

yup just a bit too high

  784. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  785. Jandy says:

    Nice play. STFD CHoo

  786. Baywatch says:

Evening, Gang! Woo-Hoo! I know we’re never REALLY feeling comfortable, but a lot to like about this start! Frankie seems to be GRINDING … and that’s good, too!

  787. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Pittsburgh looks amazing in October. Especially when the Bucs are still playing.

    I miss my hometown.

    A lot.

  788. The Justice Avenger says:

does frankie pitch the whole game?

  789. Brandie says:

    Nicely put JRay Tre!

  790. Baywatch says:

    Hey, Brandie!

  791. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Just under it.

  792. Brandie says:

Francona was definitely the best man for the task!

  793. Jandy says:

    we agree! :)

  794. Cobra39 says:

Almost a great catch by Cutch.

  795. J Walter Weatherman says:

Not the way he’s looked the last couple of innings. Hoping he get through the 7th.

  796. Brandie says:

I was just thinking I needed a Baywatch sighting. This is great, huh?!

  797. OldSoldier21 says:

    STFD Votto!

  798. Jandy says:

    Nice K!!!!

  799. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Understand. I moved to Tampa area from Pittsburgh. Way before the Rays got there though.

  800. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Understand. I moved to Tampa area from Pittsburgh. Way before the Rays got there though.

  801. J Walter Weatherman says:

Liriano has Votto’s number. Not many pitchers can claim that.

  802. The Justice Avenger says:

yea, kind of thinking the same, walter.

  803. Dom says:

    The hit doesn’t hurt us!

  804. Jandy says:

    too soon to tell

  805. OldSoldier21 says:

Frankie hangs another ZERO on the board. Me likie!

  806. Brandie says:

Aw! That really makes me smile!

  807. The Justice Avenger says:

    come on home, ryan!

  808. J Walter Weatherman says:

    This is a special moment.

  809. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Yes! He’s in control.

But can’t get his pitch count out of hand.

  810. Jandy says:

yeah he gave it his all

  811. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I need to see a Dr. I’ve had this thing going for over 4 hours.

My Direct TV reminded me I’ve been in active for that long.

  812. cmat0829 says:

one batter at a time, JA.

he is through 6 so we are now in a great spot… bottom part of the order due up… i’d love for him to go 3up, 3down in 7th… but I’d say no doubt he keeps going til he either gets in trouble or says he’s done.

  813. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    I wish I could.

  814. Barb says:

Well my tablet is running out of juice. So I am going to say so long and just wanted to let you know that I am still around and watching the best team in baseball tonight.

  815. The Gunner says:

Did Ernie Johnson say Walker went to Pine Richard??

  816. cmat0829 says:

how awesome is it to see our pal Brandon bobble an easy out and look lost at the plate…. how sweeeeeet it is.

  817. Brandie says:

We could have ended this a long time ago by having Randall Simon throw out the first pitch. He would have then taken a bat to the majority of the Reds team.Dude is as crazy as a crap house mouse!

  818. pattonbb says:

    TBS coverage is terrible.

  819. Brandie says:

    Good night darling!

  820. Jandy says:

    Night Barb!!! Go Bucs!!

  821. cmat0829 says:

TBS needs to do a public service and just yank the microphone out of the plug in the booth… Ernie is brutal AND is hard to listen too. I rarely complain about announcers…even Tim Neverett… but Ernie makes even Thom Brennaman sound great!

  822. theplanisworking says:

  823. Patrick(ri) says:

Been shut out of the blog for the whole wonderful game. Will probably cost us the 1,000 mark.

I had an eerie feeling Ludwick would be a more actve zombie, tonight — fortunately it has not hurt much.

  824. cmat0829 says:

is this their main crew? do we have to endure this jerk-off the entire postseason???? (how cool is it to play on and complain about the announcers!!)

  825. JohninOshkosh says:

Olbermann with a pretty good Ernie Johnson impersonation.

  826. J Walter Weatherman says:

Some might look at that as a lowlight from the past 20 Pirates seasons. I prefer to look at it as a highlight. It was hilarious.

  827. theplanisworking says:

No, MLB Network and Fox gets games too.

  828. Hell Unleashed says:

Who knew? The pride of Pine Richard. Hey Ernie, Chuck called and said that’s turrible…

  829. J Walter Weatherman says:

    His mime impression is better.

  830. Jandy says:

  831. Dom says:

What an at bat for cutch

  832. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    They’re awesome!! We’re winning

  833. Jandy says:

    Dusty with more exercise.

  834. Dom says:

Simon’s gone. Please go with Duke!

  835. cmat0829 says:

zach duke alert, zach duke alert.

  836. Jandy says:

  837. The Justice Avenger says:

pitching change…again…zack duke. welcome him back home, bucs!!!!

  838. pattonbb says:

    good point.

    yay TBS!

  839. Brandie says:

    True Golden Moment!

  840. JRay3 says:

If Pirates advance Dick Stockton will call that series.

  841. Drew71 says:

    New plan.

    Get up by 8.

Top of the ninth. Plunk the first two batters. Then send em home.

  842. Brandie says:

  843. OldSoldier21 says:

Technically speaking, the correct term would be jag-off, in the ‘Burgh….

  844. cmat0829 says:

praise the lord! i love Ernie on the TNT NBA studio, but he is Chris Berman-like on play by play.

  845. toochca says:

    Morneau with the knock

  846. JRay3 says:

And yes this is their main crew and they do the Dodgers/Braves series next.

  847. JohninOshkosh says:

I’m glad I’m not a Reds fan for a bazillion reasons.

But mostly I’m glad I’m not a fan of a team that lies down and dies in almost every important game they play. Starts at the top, of course with el douche-o, and rots its way through a bunch of overpaid, over hyped gutless ballplayers.

  848. Jandy says:

    welcome to DaBurgh Parra :)

  849. Brandie says:

Come on…let’s do this! Morneau with a hit. Time to put this away!

  850. The Justice Avenger says:

  851. cmat0829 says:

someone alert the PNC crowd, I want DUSTY chants in the 9th…..

  852. Jandy says:

+many and welcome back OshKOsh :)

  853. JohninOshkosh says:

Joey Votto is so overrated. Why don’t you get an important hit sometime and then we can talk about you being the best hitter on the planet. Gimme a break.

  854. cmat0829 says:

    sorry braves and dodgers fans…

  855. Dom says:

    Put it away Pedro!

  856. The Justice Avenger says:

    kids aslepp, John?

  857. Brandie says:

    Glad they’re showing their bellies!

  858. cmat0829 says:

oh how much do I want a Pedro bomb right now!!!

  859. Brandie says:

  860. cmat0829 says:

that was a strike, Joe West??? geeeeesh

  861. JohninOshkosh says:

Homework done. Showers taken. Bedtime snacks eaten. Bedtime story. Kisses received. Sleep.

That is my exciting life each and every night!

  862. JRay3 says:

And Stockton will be paired with Bob Brenly who you should know from DBack broadcasts and whom I think is very good.

the MLB Network game will be Costas and Kaat.

  863. Brandie says:

    You mean Musty Faker?

  864. toochca says:

I’ll settle for a single but a bomb would be nice

  865. Jandy says:

    and it’s priceless :)

  866. OldSoldier21 says:

  867. Jandy says:

  868. The Justice Avenger says:

John…you are blessed to be able to do that each night.

  869. Jandy says:

OK Loonies heading up to bed, gonna turn it on up there. Beat ‘em Bucs!!!!!

  870. cmat0829 says:

On one hand, I think Dusty is managing the game about right… he has 4 lefties in the pen so might as well use them. THAT SAID, why use Marshall that early and not say, Duke… and he risked having Parra pitch to Byrd with 2 on base…

I think he is using the right method, but he just sucks at execution.

  871. Dom says:

The crowd at the stadium set a record for attendance but I’m pretty sure we’ll set a record for most posts in a single topic.

  872. The Justice Avenger says:

    Good Night, Jandy!

  873. cmat0829 says:

Costas and Kaat… now THERE’s a crew…why couldn’t they work for TBS … and Brenly is very good and Stockton is tolerable…used to be great but age catching up to him

  874. JohninOshkosh says:

  875. OldSoldier21 says:

    8 outs to go……

  876. The Justice Avenger says:

    thought that, too, dom…

  877. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  878. The Justice Avenger says:

time to get someone up in the pirates bullpen? just wondering?

  879. Brandie says:

    Sweet dreams of playoff victories!

  880. Milo Hamilton says:

Easily going over 1,000 posts tonight.

  881. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I’m with ya John, but wife has that duty tonight.

  882. JohninOshkosh says:

    See ya, Jandy.

  883. Dom says:

    Wonder what the record is.

  884. OldSoldier21 says:

    7 outs to go.

  885. cmat0829 says:

Steady, steady Barmes…. 7 outs to go…. and very wise to have Watson up in the pen just in case.

  886. The Justice Avenger says:

    come on, joe!!!

  887. cmat0829 says:

  888. Brandie says:

    Touchdown Tony Watson!

  889. OldSoldier21 says:

The crowd reaction to every strike is AWESOME!

  890. Dom says:

    6 outs to go.

  891. OldSoldier21 says:

6 outs to go, 4 up and time to sing…….

  892. Brandie says:

    He is…Consistently Terrible!

  893. The Justice Avenger says:

sorry…hit the send button in the wrong place, dom. was yelling at the ump

  894. Brandie says:

Gives me chills. I am really proud of my hometown.

  895. pattonbb says:

    Yes. Thank you.

  896. toochca says:

  897. JRay3 says:

Stretch time in the Burgh as Liriano has turned in a dominant performance as he has stifled the Reds, 5-1 good guys.

Just six outs until we debate who should be the game two starter in NLDS!

  898. Karen22 says:

Be still my heart! I’m sooooooo pumped!!

  899. OldSoldier21 says:

    Amen sister!

  900. cmat0829 says:

    ON YOUR FEET PNC!!!!!!!

This is a tough one… I’d send Frankie back out for the 8th, but not sure if he gave it all he had that inning to get through…..

My thoughts are let Frankie pitch to the pinchhitter and to Choo…if he has 2 outs, let him finish the 8th. If he gives up a hit or walk, replace with Watson. I do not think I’d use Melancon to the lineup of Choo-Ludwick-Votto…just my two cents.

If Frankie is out of gas, I’d just let Watson pitch to start the 8th.

  901. Steve J. Smith says:

Anyone notice the very tiny, black Stargell star on Frankie’s hat that last inning? Awesome if they are trying to bring them back.

  902. The Justice Avenger says:

The crowd and our baseball team are making a major statement tonight to America. This team is back!

  903. cmat0829 says:

    AJ, end of debate.LOL

  904. JohninOshkosh says:

Anyone here at the playoff games in TRS ? Did the crowd approach this level at all ?

95 year old usher needs to go on Biz’ HOF!

  905. Dom says:

No idea that usher been there since the 1930’s.

  906. toochca says:

Just heard Greg Brown say that Francisco was not feeling well yeterday!!

  907. Dom says:

    2 homers for Martin!!!

  908. The Justice Avenger says:

911 if you have to Karen. Hang in there!

  909. Brandie says:

  910. theplanisworking says:

    MARTIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    6-1 Good Guys !!

  911. cmat0829 says:

  912. OldSoldier21 says:

Yawn Russell Martin with his second homer of the game. Bucs up by FIVE!!!!!!!

  913. JohninOshkosh says:

Have a good trip back to the Queen City, suckers !

  914. Steve J. Smith says:

Phil Coyne just got a TV cameo – 95 year old usher at PNC! And Martin just goes yard again for 6-1 lead!

  915. The Justice Avenger says:

  916. cmat0829 says:

he should go up to the booth and do play by play, 95 years young and bound to be better than ol Ernie

  917. JRay3 says:

Russell Martin says cannon ball coming for second time tonight and Bucs are turning this into a rout, 6-1!

  918. Drew71 says:

Three more. Then let the plunking begin.

  919. theplanisworking says:

Crowd never approached this level, because TRS was a cavern.

Seconded on Mr. Coyne being inducted into the HOF.

  920. cmat0829 says:

I’m so glad to have Russell Martin on this ball club… his bat sagged in the 2nd half but he is a big time ball player

  921. Brandie says:

You can take it, you are the Temptress!

  922. OldSoldier21 says:

Snider in to PH for Frankie – who is in line for his first post season win. Nice performance by Papa Francisco!

  923. JRay3 says:

He is game one, I was asking game two, Cole or Morton?

  924. NYBuccoFan says:

Hey DK how bout that Russell Martin?

  925. cmat0829 says:

oh how cool is it to hear the PNC faithful saluting LI-RI-ANO…. well done, Frankie…and so cool this PNC crowd!!!!!

  926. The Justice Avenger says:

I am guessing that the travel folks for the St. Louis Cardinals are starting to make some phone calls for plane tickets to Pittsburgh on Sunday??!!

  927. JohninOshkosh says:

That what I thought, Plan. But I can’t remember really well what it was like when it was packed.

  928. Hell Unleashed says:

    Double nickel goes yard…twice!

  929. cmat0829 says:

WATSON, WATSON, WATSON for the 8th, please…. WATSON, WATSON, WATSON. nothing against Marky Mark…

  930. Milo Hamilton says:

Greg Brown dropped a little nugget that Liriano was sick yesterday. Sick like Michael Jordan against the Jazz I guess.

  931. JRay3 says:

Quite the post season performance Frankie gave us tonight, turned in an ace like effort.

  932. cmat0829 says:

cards cant stand the reds, so imagine cards fans are happy for pirates… cards players probably preferred to face cincy

  933. JohninOshkosh says:

I think Dejan needs to pull rank and be the 1000th post.

  934. cmat0829 says:

his pitches were downright S-I-C-K tonight!!!

  935. Steve J. Smith says:

    I agree!

  936. Hell Unleashed says:

L has made the Reds sick tonight!

  937. JRay3 says:

He was a warrior tonight, shots of him in dugout and he looks like he is battling it.

  938. The Justice Avenger says:

  939. Baywatch says:

He’s had better stuff. But even his sick stuff is … well, SICK!

  940. Milo Hamilton says:

Russell Martin becomes only the 2nd Pirate in history with a multi homer game in the post season. In an effort to get us over 1,000 posts, who is the other ? :)

  941. theplanisworking says:

Previous record was 923 for the Cardinals DH in July.

This is going to be the most by far!

    Fear the Bold Reaming.

  942. The Justice Avenger says:

  943. toochca says:

Geg Brown just said it and now I forgot!!

  944. theplanisworking says:

    My First guess is Clemente.
    Second is Stargell.

  945. OldSoldier21 says:

He is also the only catcher in baseball history to hit homers for 3 different teams in the post season. Nice pick up by TBMTIB.

  946. Dom says:

10 posts to go and 6 outs to go.

  947. The Justice Avenger says:

I would say Pops, too. What is the answer, Milo?

  948. Milo Hamilton says:

Hint – he hit 3 against San Francisco in 1971.

  949. OldSoldier21 says:

    5 outs to go……..

  950. cmat0829 says:

  951. toochca says:

I’m going to say Pops as well!!

  952. JohninOshkosh says:

Miguel Dilone. Just for the post.

  953. toochca says:

    Bob Robertson

  954. theplanisworking says:

    Bob Robertson?

  955. cmat0829 says:

Schedule for NLDS — Thursday’s game is 5pm EDT on TBS. Friday’s game is 1pm EDT on MLB Network. Why TBS is promoting game 2 and not mentioning game 1 is beyond me. I appreciate they’ve paid for the right to carry games but they SUCK.

  956. Dom says:

    I’d go with stargell

  957. The Justice Avenger says:

    Bob Robertson?

  958. Milo Hamilton says:

    Yes. And we’re over 1,000.

  959. OldSoldier21 says:

Choo’s drive to RF is under review…….

  960. The Justice Avenger says:

  961. cmat0829 says:

why are the umps even discussing/ you go and review it, guys. and why is that jagoff not wearing black in the stands…and he just sucks at catching flyballs.

  962. toochca says:

Game 1 may be on MLB Network

  963. The Justice Avenger says:

oh boy…here comes the debate of electronics in baseball.

  964. Milo Hamilton says:

He hit 3 in Game 2 of the 1971 NLCS at Candlestick Park.

  965. cmat0829 says:

Choo may end up with a HR but he is way overrated …he wont be in Cincy next year and isn’t nearly worth the FA $$ he is projected to get. He can play RF and hit 2nd or down in the order, he is NOT a leadoff CF>

  966. JohninOshkosh says:

    Pittsburgh’s Jeffrey Maier

  967. The Justice Avenger says:

    LOL! funny line, CMAT

  968. Brandie says:

Ain’t no reaming like a BOLD reaming!

  969. OldSoldier21 says:

6-2. Watson gives up his first homer to a left hander… :(

  970. theplanisworking says:

    Thats right!
This was before Candlestick was fully enclosed. The winds went out to left, instead of swirling in.

  971. The Justice Avenger says:

    oh boy…anyone a touch nervous?

  972. Hell Unleashed says:

Jag offs! Sit on those freakin’ hands.

  973. Brandie says:

Dude and the next who touched the ball…super putzes!

  974. Cobra39 says:

I think our Bucs will make it interesting yet. Unfortunately.

  975. OldSoldier21 says:

    4 outs to go…….

  976. Dom says:

The fans are falling apart with their defense in the 8th

  977. toochca says:

    Hand Raised

  978. theplanisworking says:

  979. Brandie says:

    Pittsburghese at it’s finest!

  980. The Justice Avenger says:

    make some noise fans

  981. Dom says:

    Three outs to go

  982. OldSoldier21 says:

3 outs to go and up by 4, whew!

  983. JohninOshkosh says:

    Racist pitch.

  984. toochca says:

They reach over for those balls and don’t go after the one that Frazier caught?!

  985. Brandie says:

3 more to go! Let’s do this as I an aging by the minute!

  986. JRay3 says:

Yes sir leave it to non producing Votto and Phillips to get us out of inning, just three outs remain until the Buccos celebrate their first playoff win in 21 years!

  987. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Not Barry Bonds

  988. Hell Unleashed says:

Any other time, they would be head down textin’ @nat…

  989. Matt hoffman says:

I would not be shocked if a Pirate got plunked in the bottom of the 8th. That is just Dusty’s nature!

  990. OldSoldier21 says:

The good news is that the top of the 9th will feature the 5 – 7 hitters and not 2-4…….

  991. Karen22 says:

Yes! Martin’s is in the middle of the “P” on his shirt!

  992. toochca says:

Brandon Philips accused Jared Hughes of being racists last year

  993. Dom says:

Jacksonville deals their starting OT to the Ravens, if anyone cares.

  994. The Justice Avenger says:

    with you on that sister.

  995. theplanisworking says:

Phillips accuses every player of being racist………………………..

  996. Hell Unleashed says:

I know, right! Who let them downtahn anyhow?

  997. toochca says:

++++ Wonder if his bruise is racist

  998. The Justice Avenger says:

    J O E Y!

  999. J Walter Weatherman says:

What an outstanding game by Votto.

  1000. Dom says:

When it rains it pours for the reds

  1001. Hell Unleashed says:

Joey! Joey! How’s your golf game bro?

  1002. Patrick(ri) says:

One of the best parts of the late season was the reemergence of Walker – makes a big difference.

  1003. The Justice Avenger says:

  1004. theplanisworking says:

    Of course it is………..

it is black, and blue! ;)

  1005. War Horse says:

Joey Votto played all 162 games for the Reds this year and that limp throw at 1B just now shows how tired this team is.
Now who doubts Hurdle’s decision to give his players days off as often as possible?

  1006. Dom says:

    Let’s end it here!

  1007. The Justice Avenger says:

    grilled cheese?

  1008. Patrick(ri) says:

  1009. Dom says:

Get used to it. We’re going to hear it all next round.

  1010. OldSoldier21 says:

Okay – heading to the top of the 9th, up by FOUR. LETS GO BUCS!!!!!!! Tell them Reds to STFD!!!!!!!!! And get their skanky butts out of town ASAP.

  1011. Steve J. Smith says:

  1012. The Justice Avenger says:

well said, war horse…really well said.

  1013. JohninOshkosh says:

He risked Jared Hughes’ reputation in life and baseball with his reckless comments on twitter. Can’t stand the guy. Constantly enabled by his loathsome manager as well.

  1014. Baywatch says:

OK, BRUTHAS & SISTAS … my elbows are locked in your yours! We can do this! :-)

  1015. Dom says:

But hey, at least there will be a next round for us.

  1016. Brandie says:

    Last three y’all!

  1017. Baywatch says:

  1018. Patrick(ri) says:

In a win or it is all done, do you have somebody loosening?

  1019. The Justice Avenger says:

    beautiful words…”next round”. thanks, dom.

  1020. Baywatch says:

I’m sittin’ with Brandie from here on out!

  1021. Steve J. Smith says:

  1022. JaxBuc says:

Fellow lunatics: what a night! My heart is pounding with anticipation. Let’s raise that Jolly Roger and tell Phillips and Baker to STFD!!!

  1023. toochca says:

Not unless they get a runner or two on base.

  1024. OldSoldier21 says:

2 outs away from the NLDS….

  1025. OldSoldier21 says:

    1 out away……

  1026. Steve J. Smith says:

Grilli’s got the star on his hat too.

  1027. JohninOshkosh says:

First question from the Cincinnati Enquier to Dusty Baker: “You have now had four different clubs with three different organizations choke in the playoffs. Why should you be back next year ?”

  1028. toochca says:

    LET’S DO THIS!!!

  1029. Patrick(ri) says:

Did you see the two hands on that catch?

  1030. Dom says:

    IT’S ALL OVER!!!

The BUCCOS will face the cardinals in the NLDS.

    The BUCCOS will win!!!

  1031. pattonbb says:

    RAISE IT!!!!!

  1032. Steve J. Smith says:

  1033. JMB says:

  1034. OldSoldier21 says:

Ladies and gentlemen, your Buccos are REALLY good!

  1035. theplanisworking says:

Excellent performance by the team, and fans!!!!

    On to destroy the Cards!

    21 years worth the wait!!!

  1036. Steve J. Smith says:

Win an Raise the Jolly Roger Pittsburgh!

  1037. toochca says:

  1038. JohninOshkosh says:

    2013. The year streaks died!!!!

    Hell yes!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1039. Tom P. says:

Raise It! And there was nooo doubt about it.

  1040. OldSoldier21 says:

    Hoist the colors!!!!!!!!!

  1041. Brandie says:

Federal Street…brought to you by the number 40,487, and by the letter W, for Winners!

    Peace out y’all!

  1042. Milo Hamilton says:

And this one belongs to the Bucs. Sorry Marty, couldn’t resist.

  1043. JRay3 says:

The Pirates did it!!!! 6-2 FINAL on to the NLDS and there was noooooooooooooo doubt about it!

    See you in St Louis!

  1044. Dom says:

Does the jolly hippos only make its appearance in the post season?

  1045. The Justice Avenger says:

  1046. Karen22 says:

    EAT MY DUST, DUSTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1047. theplanisworking says:

Boy, the Reds REALLY suck! ;)

  1048. Dom says:

    Coyne looks good for 95.

  1049. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  1050. theplanisworking says:

Nope………… It has been around all year!

  1051. Dom says:

    Encore!!! Encore!!!

  1052. JohninOshkosh says:

    A big NLDS indeed!!!!

  1053. JohninOshkosh says:

I love one game sudden death playoffs!

  1054. The Justice Avenger says:

    Don’t wash those black shirts…players and fans….

  1055. Nancy52 says:

  1056. pattonbb says:

  1057. Baywatch says:

I’m in tears! I would NOT let myself get involved during the game! Free at last, aren’t we, y’all!

  1058. pattonbb says:

Like Brad Pitt said in Moneyball, “How can you not get romantic about baseball?”

  1059. Steve J. Smith says:

I think I just heard DK ask crusty a question on MLB network in the post game.

  1060. JRay3 says:

You could see tonight the love affair of a city reuniting with its baseball team like two lost souls reconnecting.

  1061. cmat0829 says:

That my friends, is the Pirates 95th win of the season. Let’s not stop there.

How great were the FANS TONIGHT!! The 9th inning was deafening….and NO ONE WANTED TO LEAVE AFTER THE FINAL OUT!!!! RAISE IT TO THE FANS and RAISE IT HIGH!!!!

  1062. Steve J. Smith says:

He won their most valuable employee award for the end of the season too.

  1063. Dom says:

Has DK been on keith Olbermann’ s show yet?

  1064. Steve in VA says:

  1065. The Justice Avenger says:

Good night, All! And a good night it is…

  1066. The Justice Avenger says:

  1067. War Horse says:

The Bucs were about to have a champagne celebration in the clubhouse after the game and Hurdle was waiting in the middle with his goggles on. Good manager, good man.
Tonight’s game was, to my mind, the best-deserved victory of the year. For the players and for the fans, including lonesome us so far, far away. It was a ballgame played to perfection by the Buccos.
On to St. Louis. Keep your eyes on the prize!

  1068. cmat0829 says:

For the Reds, time to let Shoo fly, let Ludwick go hunt something somewhere and move Votto out of the 3 hole as he is a 2 hitter at best. time to let Hamilton play and lead off… and they may want to look at upgrading Frazier at 3B and at Catcher. Lots of holes on this team, not sure they can hold off the Brewers and Cubs for long. SWEEEEEEEEEEEET

  1069. Milo Hamilton says:

And now the Cardinals have to win the division again.

  1070. Steve J. Smith says:

Hats off to ALL of the FANS at the park tonight – YOU got into the Reds heads big time! Keep it going against the Cards on Sunday. Hats off to the 1000+ posters on the blog tonight as well. Great entertainment all around. Good night and sleep well my friends! Chat with you on Thursday as we take it to the Cards.

  1071. cmat0829 says:

is olbermann even having a show now that he is moonlighting on TBS… they should move Ernie to the studio (where he is decent), Bob Costas to play by play and let Olberman host his espn show

  1072. pattonbb says:

Exactly what I was referring to, JRay. What a scene.

  1073. Baywatch says:

NOT! They do not have to do that! :-)

  1074. Dom says:

Hurdle has some great things to say abut the fans.

  1075. Baywatch says:

  1076. Dom says:

The Buccos are undefeated since the arrival of the Giant Rubber Ducky.

  1077. Baywatch says:

He sure did, didn’t he! That was great. And I liked Mark DeRosa’s analysis just now, about the keys to the game – vs. Dusty’s “if Frazier’s ball stays fair it’s a different game!” Puh-Lease! So, DeRosa says it’s Liriano, the crowd, AND the way Byrd’s home run set the tone!

  1078. Naje says:

Just for one game: was PNC Park a better/louder atmosphere than the Igloo at playoff time?

  1079. JRay3 says:

Well put, a team the Pirates have fared well with minis the last series of year at Busch. Bucs 10-9 versus Cards this year.

Interested to see how Clint pieces together rotation especially with Cole in the bullpen as team celebrated in locker room. We know it will be Wainright and Lynn for Cards out the chute.

TBS just aired great interview with Clint Hurdle who was raving about the fans and the energy they gave to team. He said he has played in a lot of places been a part of a lot of big games but nothing compared to atmosphere this evening, hopefully you will be out there Sunday!

  1080. Yo says:

My brother was at the game and said he’s NEVER attended a more electric game (any sport) in his 49 years. I love it! Go Bucs!

  1081. T.S. says:

My brother was at the game and said he’s NEVER attended a more electric game (any sport) in his 49 years. I love it! Go Bucs!

  1082. Daquido_Bazzini says:

    Thanks Pittsburgh!….Team and fans.
    Helluva show!

  1083. John Lease says:

I’m unwound. Damn it, I’m ready for some sex. Wife isn’t feeling it though, too much yelling all night long.

So I’m getting my joy out here, then off to bed! :)

  1084. theplanisworking says:

  1085. T.S. says:

It’s typical Dusty Baker. The guy is a chump and doesn’t know how to give another team its due. Poor sportsmanship. Period.

  1086. theplanisworking says:

Dusty “worthless asshat” Baker shows why he is so hated.

Asked why his team lost, he responded “Frazier’s ball went foul”
No credit to Liriano, the crowd, or the HR’s.

I hope he gets fired, and never manages again.

  1087. T.S. says:

    + infinity

  1088. John Lease says:

    1970, 1972, 1975, 1990-Reds
    1979, 2013-Pirates.

DAMN STRAIGHT! And to have Joe Morgan WATCHING it? PRICELESS!

See you on Sunday PNC, can’t miss this.

  1089. John Lease says:

What’s bigger than infinity? I want that.

But please, keep him on the Reds, he’ll destroy their arms before you know it.

And that is A-OK with me.

  1090. JRay3 says:

Jay Bruce said Homefield WAS an advantage, Frazier said BEST opposition crowd he’s ever seen, high praise from opposing players.

  1091. Dom says:

The answer to the trivia question, “what team in MLB history won the first ever one game Wild Card playoff game?” will always be the Pittsburgh Pirates.

  1092. Dom says:

Todd Frazier said on Twitter that this was the best opposing crowd.

  1093. Dom says:

I’m sorry he said that in a press conference, not on Twitter.

  1094. theplanisworking says:

Classier than their manager by far. !!!

  1095. Dom says:

In baker’ s defense, he looks like he lost some weight. :)

  1096. john says:

    3rd ever

  1097. Stuart says:

OK, so I predicted 6-1 and it was 6-2. Now if that fan had not touchdown the ball….

    Bring on Wainright.

    Go Bucs

  1098. Dom says:

Oh yeah. You’re right. I don’t know why I thought this was the first.

  1099. Milo Hamilton says:

    Cueto dropped the ball.

  1100. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Am I the 1150th caller?

  1101. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Now I am

  1102. Lad 9 says:

Back from the North Shore. I have been to three AFC championship wins, a Pens game 7, NCAA tournament games, the US Open. NOTHING….. and I mean NOTHING… compares to this game tonight. The best crowd, the most well run event (Steelers take note), perfect managing , great defense and offense. It was all there.

The atmosphere was beyond electric. I can not even describe it. I was humbled to be there and I was moved to near tears several times. So proud of Pittsburgh baseball fans. I wish every lunatic could have shared it with me. Thank you Pirates. LETS GO BUCS!! The dream continues. WOW! It really is happening.

  1103. theplanisworking says:

    Playoffs from The Window……………

floor is yours, whatcha got?? ;)

  1104. Lad 9 says:

    Unreal Milo. Just unreal.

  1105. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Just wanna say….RAISE IT BABY!

  1106. theplanisworking says:

    + a whole bunch.
Great job bringing home the win!

  1107. Lad 9 says:

Plan! What a night. I feel like a wrung out dishrag. But I can’t stop smiling. Woo hoo!

  1108. JRay3 says:

glad you were able to witness it in person, pretty powerful, perspective from someone who can compare it to other big events, It looked and sounded amazing on TV.

What a night as this dream season continues on.

  1109. Lad 9 says:

Even better beating the toothpick. :)

  1110. theplanisworking says:

  1111. Steelag70 says:

The first home team to win it. :)

  1112. Reading says:

First home team to win Wild Card game, I believe.

  1113. bizrow says:

I shed a few myself, Lad9, the first couple of innings I was in sheer awe of our great city

Dejan put out an excellent tweet, something about 40,000 burghers willing the team to win

  1114. Eric Bowser says:

    What a dream.

    What a memory.

Undoubtedly, the greatest sporting event that I’ve ever attended.

PNC Park was louder than Heinz Field when Bettis ran over Urlacher and it was louder when we welcomed back Sidney Crosby against the Islanders.

From the moment I walked into PNC Park at a little after 6:00 PM and until I walked off the Clemente Bridge after the game, the atmosphere was unreal. There’s nothing I can say to describe it.

I just hope, that it came across on TV/Radio because it was deafening during some moments tonight.

  1115. theplanisworking says:

Biz, I nominate the 95 year old usher, Phil Coyne for the Lunatic HOF.

  1116. theplanisworking says:

    Oh, it definitely came across.

    Good Job.

  1117. Eric Bowser says:

yeah, my throat is a bit sore. LOL

  1118. JRay3 says:

DK – just finished your column, very nicely done in capturing a moment so very hard to completely capture and describe.

I had chills watching the game and the atmosphere and I got chills reading your piece as I relived the moment through the words.

  1119. JRay3 says:

oh and Winnipeg just won their opener 5-4 at Edmonton in a third period comeback.

  1120. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Total chump….It’s fine for a fan to talk like that, but not a big league Mgr.

  1121. bizrow says:

Remind me tomorrow and I’ll add him

I am spent, and will wait till tomorrow to go thru the 1169 posts to see if someone logged in.

One thing that struck me tonight was the thoughts of a “lost generation”

I agree with that, but somehow, someway, they found their way back

I remember being at one Rangers game back in the early 90s when the atmosphere at the Arena was pure lightening, the Pens pummeled them on a couple of power plays, the crowd was amazing, all 16000 or so in a closed building.

You could not hear yourself think at times tonight.

    Let me just say

  1122. Lad 9 says:

Amazing night Biz. I have to be up in a few hours and I can’t settle down. Nor do I want to. Glad you felt the same as I did….

  1123. Baywatch says:

That Frazier is a good ballplayer. If they all played like him, they might have won the game. Well, they wouldn’t have WON but they’d have played a lot better! :-)

  1124. Baywatch says:

Glad you could be there, Eric!

  1125. Lad 9 says:

DK what JRay said. I got the chills all over again reading your piece. Just when I think you can’t top yourself, you prove me wrong. That just may be the best thing I have ever read in newsprint Thank you for capturing tonight. You rock!

DK: Thanks, but PLEASE do me a favor and look again. That was NOT the final version. Just went up.

  1126. bizrow says:

I’m thinking, the best is yet to come, we’re just getting started

  1127. Baywatch says:

DK, LOVED the 7-minute video where you’re just roaming around the celebration with scattered interviews. Played out like some little homemade documentary. Fun!

I got a bit teary eyed walking over the Clemente Bridge, hearing the park boo the Reds introduction, we got there right as they introduced the Bucs starting lineup, I walked in, crap, everyone was already there, I saw tons of folks walking away on the bridge, thinking, why are you going the other way??? Then I realized, they came down here to support our club.

I also got teary eyed with the last out, just looking around at the crowd, they did NOT want to leave, then I thought of you folks that love the club

    They built PNC for this

    Its finally here

    Beat Em Bucs
