  1. A little heavy on The Bucco thread. LET’S GO PENS!

  2. James Neal will play.

  3. Plan,

It was not my intent to chase you off of the Bucco thread. You have my apologies. It has been a very bad day. I’ll shut up now.

    • Brandie, you in no way chased me off the Bucco thread.
And I sincerely hope I didnt come across that way.
I know you have had a crappy day.

Just very sick of certain posters causing trouble, and i fell for it again. Guess thats why I get called sensitive???? ;)

And never shut up on here.
You are the blog’s ray of sunshine, even on a cloudy day.

Hope this helps in some small way.

      Oh, and FIRE BYLSMA!!!!!

      • Just sitting here bawling my eyes out. Figuring life is too short to be caught in such a circular argument. That was the point I was trying to make. I probably did that with the grace of Mike Adams and the subtlety of a punch in the mouth.

        Thanks Plan.

        • Brandie 1
          Hippo 0.

          FIRE MYSELF !!!! ;)

          • No one fires Planhattan Transfer without my permission. Besides, Jandy would have my head if I list the blog’s only hippo!

            • Nah, I think Jandy would understand.
              I am replaceable.

Hope we are able to distract you tonight.

              • Replaceable? With what? Not Mike Adams… You are more graceful. I think he’ll probably be fired! Can’t collect unemployment…Government is shut down!

              • Graceful?
You have never seen me stumble out of bed in the morning. Lets just say baby deer are better than I.

But my cousins are the “Fantasia” dancing Hippos.
                Maybe I could take lessons?

  4. Forwards
    Kunitz – Crosby – Dupuis
    Jokinen – Malkin – Neal
    Bennett – Sutter – Kobasew
    Glass – Jeffrey – Adams

    Defense
    Orpik – Martin
    Scuderi – Niskanen
    Maatta – Bortuzzo

    Goalie
    Fleury – starter
    Zatgoff – backup

    Scratches
    D’Agostini
    Engelland
    Vitale

  5. Going to say it now… not a fan of Beau Bennett on the third line.

  6. KOBASEW?????????????????????????????

    GOAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Of course, I rip them… 3rd line scores goal

Kobasew works a nice give-n-go with Sutter to score his first goal with the Penguins

    1-0 Penguins

  8. Who the heck is this #87 guy?????????

    GOAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 Good Guys.

  9. real nice work by Pens in D-zone w/ Kunitz hitting Volchenkov, then Sid-Duper up ice, Sid burns Schneider

    2-0 Pens

  10. That’s why I want Crosby and Malkin as penalty killers.

  11. FIRE MALKIN…until he scores!

  12. yikes…. Dupuis played 1:22 of 2:00 PK, that’s way too much for 1 forward to be playing in game one of the regular season.

  13. Looks like Neal is done for the night.

    • Yea. It’s better that way. Get that injury dealt with. Please don’t tell me it happened during the Wiffle Ball game or during PT exercises at West Point.

  14. How has Maatta looked on D? Lost or holding his own?

  15. Wow just put on root sports I did not sign up for it but for some reason I have it. Go Pens

  16. I’m hoping Bylsma tries to go through the glass partition between coaches at end of the game.

  17. Wow is it quiet at Consol! How about a CUE – TO chant or something?

    • SCHNEID-ER! SCHNIED-ER!! SCHNEID-ER!!! SCHNEID-ER!!!!

      • I’ve always thought the Pens crowds were a little too quiet for my tastes. Even at the Igloo. Some folks down there looked at me like I was nuts trying to start some Let’s go Pens chants. Actually, that was very perceptive on their part. ;)

        • Since the move to Consol, it sometimes seems like a morgue. Not criticizing, I honestly think the acoustics have something to do with it. Concert people say it is wonderful for them, I wonder if that means it stifles crowd noise.

Or, I could just be rambling incoherently………..

          • If you were rambling incoherently, I was right there with ya. I haven’t made the trip to Consol yet. But, to my ear, it sounds more like a PGA event than a NHL game.

  18. Beau Bennett is bringing the grit tonight. Where is Jandy when you need her?

  19. I mowed my lawn in October heat and humidity after watching the Buccos give it up and then came in and watched regular season hockey.

Are these the end days ?

  20. Glad to have hockey back. And it’s a great temporary cure for bad baseball games.

Baseball during hockey season? In Pittsburgh?!

  21. My man Marc Andre with the shutout

  22. BTW

Olli Maata’s hair looks like a toilet brush.

  23. How do I get new posts to this blog. Do I need to keep hitting the refresh button?

  24. Hi Brent, yes you have to hit refresh….it does not auto refresh.
    Welcome :)

  25. I gotta say, Brandon Sutter looks pretty good tonight

  26. And Brooksie with some nice hits!

  27. ADAMS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  28. wow, nice goal by Adams with a screen by Glass :)

  29. 3-0, Malkin to Adams……

  30. Flower Power!

  31. Nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. NICE!! MAF block the penalty shot!!!

  33. Fleury say NO and STFD on the penalty shot!!!!!!!!

  34. Mother Theresa is tired, so I’m gonna call it a night…up at 3…2 hour drive to Carlisle, walked the grounds from 7am to almost 2pm…time to hit the sack….
    Night Loonies!

  35. A short lived FLEURY chant. Pens to the PK…..

  36. Someone nominate Larsson for an academy award…sheesh

  37. SHUT OUT!!!! YES!!!

  38. The Flower in full bloom on opening night!

  39. Well, we at least got one Pittsburgh victory today.

Go Bucs tomorrow, and good night all.

  40. Game Recap:
    http://pittsburghfancentral.blogspot.com/2013/10/penguins-have-fleury-of-time-against.html

The last time we saw goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury starting a hockey game for the Pittsburgh Penguins, he was beaten for six goals by the New York Islanders in game four of their first round series.

On opening night for the 2013-2014 season at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Fleury stopped all 27 shots notching his 250th career victory and 24th career shutout as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-0.

For Fleury, it was a relatively easy effort through two periods as the Devils barely mounted a sustained attack as Pittsburgh unveiled their new defensive approach using the 1-3-1 left-wing lock.

On the other end of the ice making his debut for the New Jersey Devils was former Vancouver Canucks goalie Corey Schneider.

The Penguins got to Schneider in the first period at 9:26 as a hard pass from defenseman Matt Niskanen was sent up the ice to winger Beau Bennett on his forehand facing back towards his defensive zone and quickly tapped the puck back to the center of the neutral zone to winger Chuck Kobasew charging up the center of the ice.

Kobasew moved it to center Brandon Sutter and while Sutter sent a wrist shot on net, the Kobasew had the momentum to beat his man to the rebound and easily beat Schneider to score his first goal in a Penguins jersey and more importantly, the 1-0 lead.

Penguins scored again just under 3 minutes later after a solid check along the boards by Chris Kunitz on Anton Volchenkov led to loose puck for Pascal Dupuis that he was able to move over to Sidney Crosby, who wasted little time sending a laser over Schneider.

Neither team did much in the second period and in the third period, Penguins added a third goal from a Craig Adams wrist shot.

After that it was all Fleury as he made an unbelievable save with his glove behind his back, then denied Adam Henrique on a penalty-shot with a right pad denial and finally made another right pad save against Ryane Clowe.

    Game Notes:
    * James Neal left in first period due to upper body injury
    * Rookie defenseman Olli Maatta made NHL debut playing 14:44
    * Paul Martin lead team for TOI with 24:26
    * Rob Scuderi made his return with the Penguins playing 19:42
    * Chris Kunitz led team with 7 hits
    * Sidney Crosby led team with 4 shots
    * Matt Niskanen led team with 5 blocked shots and +2 plus/minus
    * Jaromir Jagr made his Devils debut playing 15:49 with 1 shot

  41. 82 Games for Jaromir will be very tough to play. Nice win for the home, Rename the three stars to the three Stargel stars.
