    Beat Em Bucs

    Can you feel it lunatics??

  3. DARYTHEPIRATEFAN says:

    THIS IS A DREAM !!!!!!!!!

    LETS GO BUCS

    DK: DARYL!

  4. DP says:

Leaving work early the next two days to watch. LETS GO BUCS.

  5. Nate83 says:

There is a game today? I can’t believe this is the first I’m hearing about it. October baseball just doesn’t feel right.

If feels like we waited 21 years for this.

  6. john says:

of the last 35 times the road team can earn a split in the first two games, said road team has won 24 of those series.

  7. Dom says:

    I’ll say Buccos in five.

  8. cmat0829 says:

    Keys for AJ today:

    1. Keep Matt Adams in the park
    2. Keep Jon Jay and Descalso off the bases

Obviously there are many other keys, but this lineup gets pretty weak after Molina , but Jay and Descalso have been tough on us, key is to not let up and let those guys extend things….. and Adams has been unreal with his power since subbing in for Craig… let’s keep him on the ground.

  9. Dom says:

Look for Martin to catch from here on out. Hurdle was asked why Buck was chosen to be on the roster over Sanchez and he basically said it was due to experience but it didn’t make much of a difference as the backup would not be obtaining much playing time.

  10. Jim S. says:

That is the key, no doubt about it.

  11. Kevin says:

I want pirates in 3 please. Don’t we all? Can someone explain the baseball schedule for me? I dont remember the last time I closely followed a MLB postseason. Is it 2 away, 2 home, then 1 away?

  12. Kevin says:

Stolen from the morning java thread:

Nobody has said anything about Matt Adams yet. We haven’t seen him right? And by that I mean, he hasn’t seen pirate pitching.

The only I’ve seen so far is that Allen Craig being out for the series is a positive. I also see a story floating around on MLB about Matt Adams, a PA resident and pirates fan about playing against his childhood favorite team.

Anyone else have any input on him? Could he possibly be an x-factor?

  13. Jim S. says:

    My quick takes today:

    1) Make Wainwright work. I know he’s a bull, and they will leave him in for 120 if need be. But, if we could get one of those games where’s he at 90 after 5, even if we are not yet winning at that point, I like our chances. Plus, the more times you can get deep into an opponent’s bullpen in a series, the better.

    2) Can we find a way to not have John Jay kill us in that park?

    3) I would love to see Pedro swapped for Justin today. That said, please bring some power finally, Justin.

    4) AJ needs to be efficient with his pitches. Give us 7 innings w/ 2 runs, AJ!

  14. Milo Hamilton says:

Cards are 17-6 since Craig was hurt.

  15. JRay3 says:

    2-2-1 in the NLDS

    2-3-2 in NLCS

    2-3-2 in WS

  16. Jim S. says:

He’s from Slippery Rock, Kevin. We’ve seen him quite a bit. I think Craig was already hurt for the last series vs. the Cards. Adams has something like 17 HR in 311 ABs. He’s a beast vs. RHP, I think.

  17. Kevin says:

    Thanks JRay3!

  18. Jim S. says:

Freese has a history of post-season production, doesn’t he? Or, was it just one great series vs. TX?

  19. Milo Hamilton says:

I know this is different but, the current 14 Pirates position players have a combined .302 career batting average against Adam Wainwright and an 846 OPS.

  20. Jim S. says:

But, let’s not let facts get in the way of the “Alan Craig being out will kill the Cards” story.

    Good post, Milo.

  21. Jim S. says:

Working on an exit strategy as we speak, DP. Cough, cough!

  22. JRay3 says:

Team has seen Adams as he played in last series between two teams in early Sept. and went 2-10. In addition he was the player that hit that rip right at Walker who was positioned perfectly in shallow RF in one of the earlier meetings. At the time it appeared that play would win the game for the Bucs, I also believe if memory serves that is the game the Bucs lost aided by the Marte drop.

My opinion is Adams is a very good hitter but he is having to replace the Cardinals most productive run producer, best two out hitter and a guy with best AVG with RISP in Craig. If you asked the Cardinals I’m sure they would prefer to have Craig available.

  23. Milo Hamilton says:

Just like losing Votto was going to kill the Reds last year.

  24. 21sthebest says:

Yeah and let’s keep Carpenter off the bases.

  25. Jim S. says:

Thanks, again, for posting both lineups, DK.

  26. The Justice Avenger says:

I’d love to see the Pirates win this at PNC on Monday…I will say 4, too.

  27. Jim S. says:

What the hey, just pitch a perfect game, AJ!

By my count, we now him to contain Carpenter, Adams, Jay, DesCalso, Freese.

  28. Wayne says:

    Titusville PA

  29. stickyweb says:

Not to mention if Adams is starting instead of on the bench, the bench is a lot weaker.

  30. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    TWO-LINE THURSDAY!!!

The Window will continue throughout the duration of the playoffs.
September and October will be combined and all winners will be announced at the conclusion of the playoffs.
    ENJOY!

******PLEASE READ WHAT IS WRITTEN BELOW******
PLEASE PLACE YOUR “WAGERS” AS REPLIES IN THIS COMMENT BOX
Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line (EXCEPT FOR TODAY’S BONUS PICK ‘EM).
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

NEW PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME & ENCOURAGED!!

    Line #1
Total INNINGS PITCHED by AJ Burnett in tonight’s game
    Line is 6.75

    Line #2
How Many Wins Will the Pirates Get in Games 1 & 2?
    Zero (DOUBLE ODDS)
    One (EVEN ODDS)
    Two (TRIP-TRIP-TRIPLE ODDS)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

KEEP CALM & WIN THREE GAMES

  31. 21sthebest says:

This is really confusing. I always thought the keys to the game were:

    1. Establish the running game.
    2. Don’t turn the ball over.
    3. Don’t give up the big play.

  32. Lad 9 says:

Line 1 Over AJ goes 7 strong

    Line 2 One

Both for 100. Thank you Playoffs. The Window is open for business. Go Buccos!!!

  33. The Justice Avenger says:

I have a sign on my office wall from one of my favorite baseball players of all time – Christy Mathewson. The sign reads – “You can learn little from victory, you can learn everything from defeat”. As we enter this NLDS…I think of this Pirates team and the past 2 years and maybe what they have indeed learned.
______________________________________________________________________As a side note – Christy holds one of the most unbreakable records in the history of the game for the 1905 NY Giants – 3 complete game shutouts for the Giants over the Philly A’s in the World Series.

  34. Milo Hamilton says:

… a punt is always a good play.

  35. Tom P. says:

I just found out that the family is going to a Chinese restaurant for dinner at 6 pm. Can you tell that I am the only one that likes baseball? And no, there is no TV at the restaurant.

  36. Kevin says:

#1 – max units on the OVER
#2 – max units on the TWO. I believe they will win tonight. AJ + run support. Cole/Morton pitch tomorrow is the only questionable game. If we win gm2 as well, I can see it easily being over in 3.

  37. Maccreate says:

Ramstein, Germany – retired Air Force

DK: Thank you for your service, and welcome!

  38. The Justice Avenger says:

?!?! No way, Tom!!! This is a hot dog and beer night!

  39. Nate83 says:

    line 1 – 100 on the over.
    line 2 – 100 on two.

  40. Nate83 says:

The key is you said the family but you didn’t say yourself. It sounds like a nice quit night at home by yourself watching the game. 21 years of waiting may be worth a week or two in the doghouse.

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

    Ha!

My kids don’t watch any sports and my wife will ask me sometime in November, “When do the baseball playoffs start ?”

Don’t know if you paid for the MLB app but do the ole ear phone up the back of the shirt to your ear bit and nod a lot at what the fam is saying.

  42. Jandy says:

Tom! You gotta be sick. Think of something quick!

  43. Damon says:

I’ll go 100 on less than 6.75 innings
100 on one of the two games
    Thanks!

  44. Karen22 says:

I’d rather they win it at PNC SUNDAY! :)

  45. Jandy says:

Welcome new posters! Biz will make sure you are represented.:)

  46. The Justice Avenger says:

Ok, I’ll take it in 3…that’s cool, Karen…

  47. Bizrow says:

    You know me

AJ gets pulled out kicking and screaming in the 8th, 100 on over
Might as well as put 100 on two wins while I am at it.

    Thanks Playoffs

Its the keeping calm part that is hard to do…..

  48. toochca says:

Tom, the Chinese restaurant you are going to uses MSG!! Don’t go there, it’s not good for you!!

  49. Bizrow says:

Got em, thanks Wayne and Maccreate

Now lets go get that W

  50. Karen22 says:

    100 each:

    1. OVER
    2. One (hope it’s two and I sink further into the hole!)

  51. Karen22 says:

    That’s what I’d do!!

  52. Karen22 says:

NO idea what I’m doing about tomorrow’s game…we don’t get the Buc’n MLB Network!!

  53. Jandy says:

Line 1 – 100 dead birds on the over.
Line 2 – 100 dead birds on one, please.
Thanks for doing this Mr.Playoffs, you rock!

  54. And they serve cat.

  55. Jandy says:

We have it on the Dish so I’m lucky!

  56. Big B says:

    Hi Bizrow,

I just moved last weekend. If you don’t mind, add Shippensburg, PA to the list!

    Thanks!

  57. Jandy says:

well pulling in the driveway. Gotta take care of the dog n stufff. Catch yinz Loonies later. Go Bucs!

  58. Kevin says:

  59. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m pretty sure they have announced Cole for tomorrow.

  60. cmat0829 says:

    100 over line 1, 100 1 win on line 2. hope i’m wrong on line 2 :)

  61. cmat0829 says:

    around 6pm they’ll be serving Cardinal…

  62. Nate83 says:

He’s a big boy. I would imagine the actual physical bench would be stronger without him stting on it.

  63. BDHumbert says:

I do think we win 1 and AJ will take it to the 7th
50 on 1 win and hope I am wrong and we take both…
    50 on the over

  64. Bizrow says:

Got it Big B, thanks for logging in.

  65. Bill Born says:

Lets win tonight and worry about series later.

    Now, both for 100 please.

    Line one – Under

    Line 2 – one win

    Thanks.

  66. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window. Wow who would have thought we all would have the chance to watch the Pirates play a game #164 on the season? Should be an exciting weekend of ball ahead.

    Line 1 – 100 on the OVER

    Line 2 – 50 on One

    Thanks and Go Bucs!

  67. Matt hoffman says:

I agree Jim. Make Wainwright work. Go Pirates!

  68. stickyweb says:

100 on the UNDER for line 1
100 on winning both games in STL

    Thanks.

  69. NMR says:

Should be noted that Adams also strikes out at a higher rate than any Pirate not named Pedro and struggles against breaking balls.

    Advantage, AJ.

  70. JohninOshkosh says:

    Nice.

  71. Bizrow says:

humbly nominate as post du jour

  72. RenoBucs says:

    Reno, Nevada

  73. Doc says:

Just so they win it… I’ll take it in 3, 4, or 5

  74. Jim S. says:

    Splash plays, 26.2.

  75. Kevin says:

how many times has the road team won both games? :|

  76. Dom says:

Didnt Hurdle do that in the interview after the Reds game?

  77. Jim S. says:

    :-)

Said the bench: “Coach Matheny, is there any way Matt Adams can start today? That last homestand was a killer.”

  78. What what his pitch count was? Or, if his arm fell off.

  79. Arriba Wilver says:

Line 1—OVER for 100 NLCS tickets

Line 2—Two wins for 100 NLCS tickets

  80. Doc says:

with new folks here… maybe someone should post avatar instructions

I hate being a grey man

  81. Dom says:

    75 UNDER!!!
    50 ON ONE!!!
    THANKS!!!

  82. Jim S. says:

NMR with a deeper dive into the #’s. I like it.

  83. Jim S. says:

    Hey, Matt.

  84. Yup and Frankie Sunday at home with Morton following him if we haven’t sealed it by then.

  85. Jim S. says:

That’s back when men were men, Lucky!

  86. Jim S. says:

You need to re-establish control of that family, Tom. This is the playoffs.

    :-)

  87. bman says:

Line 1: 75 on the UNDER
Line 2: 50 on ONE WIN

    thanks!!

  88. Jim S. says:

Did you swap anything good, Jandy?

  89. Matt hoffman says:

Hey Jim! How are you? I am ready for some baseball!

  90. Jim S. says:

    gravatar.com. Pretty easy.

Can’t believe I’m the guy pusing avatars now. I was late to the party on that, Doc.

  91. toochca says:

Didn’t take Dale Sveum long to find a Job!! Hired to Royals staff today.

  95. Dom says:

I dont think he deserved to be fired, personally.

  96. :D

    You’re a preacher.

    Mark 9:23; 11:23

  97. Jim S. says:

Hmm … Giving the family an option for sports viewing … Never thought of that one. Very nice of you, Osh.

Oh well, too late now. Glad I indoctrinated early and often. :-)

Only kidding. My wife and one of my daughters only watch some of the time with us. So, they are often in another part of the house. My son and other daughter are the hardest core baseball fans you’ll ever find.

  98. Karen22 says:

You mean lunch – it’s at 1:00. We have DISH also, but just the basic plan. STINKS!!

  99. Exactly, Jim. That’s supposed to say “wonder what his pitch count was”.

I wonder how many Randy Johnson threw in that series where he seemed to pitch every game.

So much better athletes, supposedly nowadays, but not the same kind of rubber in their arms.

  100. Jim S. says:

    Witcha’ on that one, Dom.

I think they are hoping Girardi leaves NYY.

  101. Matt hoffman says:

I am still on a high from beating the Reds. I hope that really hurt Dusty Baker!! Lol. Now I hope we can quiet all the Cardinal fans here in Southern Indiana!!

  102. Jim S. says:

Oh, you’re right. I got my game times mixed up for today and tomorrow.

Well, lunch leads to dinner with a ball game on the tube.

  103. Jim S. says:

Randy threw a truckful of pitches in that series, for sure.

  104. Oh-h-h-h, Man!

I thought I was over this sickness, this nervousness, this tightness in my stomach after Tuesday. Now it starts up all over again tonight!

I feel like I am going to throw up! Why do I do this to myself? Isn’t it grand!!!??!!

    Go Bucs!

  105. Jim S. says:

    I’m great, Matt.

Well, I still have to put in at least another hour in here before I head home. I’m going to have to catch the first few innings on the radio. 1/2 day tomorrow.

  106. Matt hoffman says:
  107. Jim S. says:

Sorry to hear you are not making the trip to PNC. I heard it through the grapevine.

  108. JRay3 says:

Just saw that Adams is 4-30 versus the Bucs this year hitting just .133.

Hope that trend continues as that would eliminate the Cards cleanup hitter.

  109. Jim S. says:

Me, too, since I will be there.

  110. Matt hoffman says:

The Pirates will win in 3! That’s right, get the brooms out.

  111. Jim S. says:

NMR did say advantage AJ due to his curve.

    4-30 is good news.

  112. Matt hoffman says:

Thanks Jim. Sometimes I like the radio better anyway. I have had several emergencies. (Dad had a heart-attack, daughter had surgery), so I figured the Lord was keeping close to home. I saw it was really buzzing Tuesday night. Everyone around Cardinal nation here is verrrryyyyy nervous. They aren’t near as cocky after seeing how rattled Cincy was. They are all really hoping they are up 2 after Friday! I love seeing Cardinal fans humbled and quiet (not chirping) lol

  113. Jim S. says:

No meetings again tonight, I hope, Groat?

  114. TCB says:

    # – under for 75.

    1 for 75.

    Thanks.

  115. JohninOshkosh says:

Pedro Martinez doesn’t like the Pirates lineup. Things Martin and Alvarez should be higher up in the lineup.

  116. toochca says:

    Time to upgrade for October!!

  117. Kevin says:

5pm is my end of work-day… but today I have twice the anxiety for waiting. Clocks going sooo slow. I might just leave 10 mins early… no one will know, everyone else has already gone including the boss. And no, they aren’t at the bar already. South-central PA isn’t exactly a pirate hotbed.

  118. toochca says:

    Excuse me… I mean BUCTOBER!!

  119. Steelag70 says:

    I know the feeling!!

  120. NMR says:

Noticed his K rate jumped about 10% between minors and big leagues and figured something had to be up.

  121. Jim S. says:

He probably thinks Russell Martin hits 2 HR every night. Coz I’m sure Pedro sees every game the Bucs play.

  122. Jim S. says:

Make the phone call to DISH. I bet they’ll bargain with you. Tell them you are going to DIRECtv.

  123. NMR says:

All his power is to right, as well.

I like AJ working his sinker on the outside corner.

  124. toochca says:

Try living in the LA area!! They are calling it “Bluetober” here!!

  125. Stuart says:

Playoffs, give me 100 on the over for AJ, and 100 on two wins for line #2

    Stuart

  126. Jim S. says:

Your family is in my prayers, Matt. I hope everything works out ok with your dad and daughter.

  127. Jim S. says:

    Feeling better and better.

  128. JohninOshkosh says:

I, for one, am glad tomorrow’s game is on MLB Network. TBS is awful. I’ll never get back the last 20 minutes I wasted watching their studio roundtable.

  129. War Horse says:

    Line #1 – 75 on the OVER

    Line #2 – 50 on ONE WIN

    Thanks.

  130. theplanisworking says:

Can I have Bucs in 2?
    Never good at math………….

  131. theplanisworking says:

    What DK said !!!

  132. theplanisworking says:

And you will make sure you bite them !!! ;)

  133. Tom P. says:

Where, Kevin? My brother lives outside of Lancaster.

  134. Kevin says:

why are they blue? LA dodgers are in the post-season.

  135. theplanisworking says:

    So I am a grapevine now????? ;)

  136. Kevin says:

I’m in Dover which is on the western edge of York County.

  137. theplanisworking says:

    Prayers to you, Matt.

  138. JohninOshkosh says:

None of the “experts” on the TBS pregame panel picked the Bucs to win the series. That is a good sign.

  139. John Lease says:

Strap in. I have to go to ESL tonight by 6, so youns will have to carry my angst for me.

I know it’s a lot, so spread it out amongst yourselves.

  140. theplanisworking says:

    25 Hippos on the following…………..

    Line 1 — OVUH
Line 2 — 1 win against the Deadbirds.

    GO BUCS !!!

  141. Steelag70 says:

Everyone is discounting the Buccos….they forget that the Buccos have been playing playoff type baseball for the last two weeks and the Cards have been out of that mode for the last seven days…

  142. theplanisworking says:

Upgrade til the Bucs are out. Then switch back!

  143. War Horse says:

Alas, the international feed, at least to England, is on TBS. No way I can mix ‘n match the TV feed with KDKA audio. No way I’ve discovered yet.

  144. Milo Hamilton says:

    Dick Stockton ladies & gentlemen.

  145. JohninOshkosh says:

Dick Stockton and Bob Brenly with the call

85 freakin degrees with a chance of thunderstorms.

Ugh….already talking about the shadows. Kill me now.

  146. theplanisworking says:

The last time the Bucs played in a best of 5 series, they won 3-0.
    Just sayin’

  147. theplanisworking says:

    Preach it!
Natinals, Orioles, Phils, Yanks. YUK !

But, people see my Pirate cap, they are happy for me.
Especially the soldiers from the Gap.

  148. bizrow says:

Welcome RenoBucs, that puts us at 415

  149. toochca says:

    They wear Blue. Dodger Blue.

  150. bizrow says:

Do you remember when he was the Sports Anchor at KDKA? Sigh

Where is Bill Curry when you need him?

  151. JohninOshkosh says:

Stands full of red. Outfield bathed in sunshine with arch shadows crossing the infield.

Pirates in black shirts, yellow lettering and numbers, grey pants with yellow and black stripes down the side. Names on back with “P” on hats.

Cardinals in their familiar home whites. Cardinals at each end of the bat across the chest. Red lettering and numbers. Names on back and interlocking StL on hats.

Pirates go down in order to lead off the first.

  152. Milo Hamilton says:

I don’t do predictions. But I do think the home team is going to win the first 4 games.

  153. theplanisworking says:

Reporting from near Fort Indiantown Gap.

    Pond is safe and secure.

  154. JRay3 says:

Well here’s to the old adage that history has a way of repeating itself!

  155. theplanisworking says:

    +++++++++

  156. Milo Hamilton says:

I do. He was there when Three Rivers opened. Sweet Old Bill replaced him.

  157. JohninOshkosh says:

Working the count. It’s the Cardinal way.

  158. JohninOshkosh says:

    +

  159. KenKopp says:

Uh, you just did a prediction Milo.

  160. JRay3 says:

So far Pirates batters not displaying good pitch recognition, making it far easier for Wainwright.

  161. Milo Hamilton says:

Jarvis Jones – more endorsements than sacks.

  162. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Hello all.

Excited for today’s game (not the start time, luckily I’m off work this week) but I do think, that if the Pirates can pull this win off against Wainwright, they will sweep.

No disrespect to Molina, but I really don’t want to hear how he’s the best catcher in the league after RMs performance the other night. Show some love Stockton.

My Pirates pick-to-click for tonight is Marte. Too young and dumb to realize how big of a game this is. He’ll make something happen tonight.

  163. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Cards aren’t either. Stupid start time

  164. Dom says:

Clint shouldn’t have missed that one.

  165. JRay3 says:

Need to make those plays in these type of games.

  166. Brandie says:

He is from my town of Philipsburg.

  167. Dom says:

Our d should be our biggest advantage over the cardinals

  168. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

The sun is just brutal right now.

  169. JRay3 says:

John Jay a Buc killer, hits a soft floater and gets a single. First real test of game here for AJ, first two runners aboard.

  170. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  171. Brandie says:

    His nickname is Big City.

  172. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Big play by NW.

As I was about to say…roll a pair.

  173. Thundercrack says:

That is what Chinese take-out is for Tom!

  174. JRay3 says:

Very nice play by Walker going to his left spinning and getting runner at second, gives AJ the opportunity to induce DP which he does and Bucs get out of it. Big half inning there, circle that one.

  175. Milo Hamilton says:

Barmes over 1.000 OPS vs. Wainwright. Clearly in there for his bat.

  176. cmat0829 says:

Stockton is 1000000000000000000 times better than Ernie Johnson who should never be allowed to call a baseball game again, much less the playoffs. Not when Bob Costas is available. And Brenley is very good. Much prefer a 2man crew…the other night, Smoltz and Ripken talked over each other too much plus they sounded too much alike so it was just an audial mess.

  177. KenKopp says:

O = circle. This is nerve racking fun. Card fans are subdued.

  178. War Horse says:

Except for the base hit by Molina, all ground balls by the Cardinals so far. Nice play by Barmes to get out of the jam.

  179. cmat0829 says:

atta boy AJ, get Descalso to serve up an easy DP… Cards once again had RISP, Yady gets a gift single (Barmes error) and Jay bloops weakly to center field… but nice composure by AJ

Wainright looks tough today, gonna have to keep these Birds off the scoreboard

  180. Dom says:

Big play by freese to keep us hitless.

  181. cmat0829 says:

Freeze a great play to rob Barmes of a double. yes, Brenley you will notice the ump signaled fair before he called out, so it was indeed going to be a double.

  182. JRay3 says:

And he does come up with sharpest hit ball of anyone, first time through the order…he was robbed of extra bases by Freese.

  183. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Or Jon Jay’s hit..

    Otherwise, yea.

  184. The Gunner says:

Dick Stockton left Pittsburgh in early 1971 because he wanted to do baseball & the great Bob Prince was firmly entrenched here. Stockton still does an excellent job, 42 years later!

  185. Milo Hamilton says:

    Don Larsen – 1956
    Roy Halladay – 2010

    That’s it. That’s the list.

  186. JRay3 says:

Nine up nine down for the Pirates, Wainwright looks tough today, important for AJ to match him tit for tat and keep firing zeroes.

  187. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Gonna stay that way too.

  188. Patrick(ri) says:

Got to do better against curve ball, or this could be a Wainwright complete game.

  189. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    That was for you Milo

  190. cmat0829 says:

I really think TBS should just go primetime for weekday playoff games… for the NCAA tournament they find a way to telecast up to 4 games at once, allowing viewers to choose which one they want to watch.

Why not start Dodgers- Braves at 7pm edt on TBS, then start Pirates-Cards at 8:30pm edt on TNT… gives viewers option of back and forth…also if first game is a blowout, people are fed to the other game, and vice versa.

Tomorrow, with 4 series all going, you can have doubleheaders on both TBS and TNT (6 and 9 edt)

  191. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Not good.

    Roll it

  192. The Gunner says:

    Need a hoover quick

  193. JRay3 says:

ugh, 8 pitch walk to Wainwright to lead off Cards half of third. AJ really having to battle on mound.

  194. JRay3 says:

And second straight inning Cards get first two runners on base, but this time heart of St Louis order coming up.

  195. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Try that again.

But I don’t like where this is going.

    Heart of the order.

    You’re welcome Stockton

  196. Milo Hamilton says:

Too many base runners vs. no base runners is not a good combination.

  197. cmat0829 says:

hate to say it, but that’s quite likely the ballgame. 6 innings to prove me wrong!

  198. theplanisworking says:

    Holy Crap!
    That was hit a mile.

    0-3 Bad Guys.

  199. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

And all at once we said “$h!t”

  200. JRay3 says:

And Beltran delivers first big blow of the series….AJ falling behind too many hitters, can’t do that against a very good hitting team.

  201. Brandie says:

That home run hurt. Time to get those back.

  202. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Especially over 3 innings.

  203. florida steeler says:

Typical AJ in the post season–el stinko

  204. toochca says:

    Anybody warming up yet?

  205. cmat0829 says:

    get jeanmar up and quick

  206. The Gunner says:

Clint better have AJ on a short leash tonight

  207. JRay3 says:

AJ does not have it, came in with a 13.50 ERA at Busch and the place continues to haunt him. Time to get Gomez up.

  208. cmat0829 says:

to throw holliday a fastball mid thigh and out over the plate is flat out awful. AJ doesnt have any type of curveball today and pretty poor command overall.

  209. Patrick(ri) says:

Question now is how many runs they will let him give up? 6 is my guess.

  210. Eric Bowser says:

Not sure who is on the mound, is that AJ Burnett or Kip Wells?

    Sucks, I can’t tell.

  211. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

2-0 looks a lot more managable than 3-0.

Walk to the pitcher? No good

  212. Brandie says:

Good to be here with my peeps. Got terrible news…my aunt is dying of cancer. Hockey, baseball, blog = needed diversion.

  213. BDHumbert says:

Why is AJ still out there – I love the guy – great attitude and we would not be playing tonight if it weren’t for him – but he does not have his usual stuff…

    Bring on Gomez.

    Please

AJ does not deserve to be embarrassed this way…

  214. theplanisworking says:

    Howdy, Muppet.

Get those good vibes working !

  215. JRay3 says:

So sorry to hear that, my thoughts and prayers go out to her and your family.

  216. toochca says:

Sorry to hear about your Aunt. Prayers are being sent!!

  217. theplanisworking says:

    Prayers to you, Brandie.

  218. Milo Hamilton says:

    Phone lines must be down.

  219. Patrick(ri) says:

“No activity, as of yet in Pittsburgh bullpen” — make that 8 runs?

  220. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Wow. Yank him.

  221. pattonbb says:

    We’ll get them tomorrow.

  222. Steelag70 says:

    This game is over….

  223. Brandie says:

Thank you all. Hugs to each and everyone of you.

  224. The Gunner says:

What is Clint doing? Conceding game 1???

  225. JRay3 says:

Oh my, why can CH not see AJ has no command, is not fooling anybody? This is about to get out of hand in a hurry.

  226. irishjim says:

    vintage Hurdle!

  227. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Outings like this one are exactly why the Yankees couldn’t wait to offload this guy.
Look at his lifetime stats in the post-season.
    Not pretty at all.

    ERA over 5

  228. Eric Bowser says:

    sorry about your aunt.

  229. JRay3 says:

Going to need the rookie to come up big tomorrow.

  230. The Gunner says:

Hang in there, Brandie, we’ll cover for you here!

  231. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

3 runs on Wainwright? Doubtful, but you never know.

  232. theplanisworking says:

Bob Brenley…….. “in the playoffs, you have to go to the pen quicker”

    Hmmmmmm.

  233. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Where’s Joe West when you need him?

  234. BDHumbert says:

With all the stuff we have seen about the data geeks – why has some of it not been applied to this sort of thing…

AJ has not fooled anyone – has been throwing way more balls than he usually does…

This is embarassing at this point – and I blame Hurdle…

  235. JRay3 says:

Please get him out of there.

  236. cmat0829 says:

wow, AJ just looks awful. no command whatsoever. just awful.

  237. irishjim says:

Its OK Hurdle, he has only let the first 7 on this inning. My God.

  238. toochca says:

Even Joe West’s strike zone isn’t big ernough!!

  239. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

How is he still in there?

  240. Lad 9 says:

Brandie very sorry to hear that my dear friend. Will pray for her. I have found this is a good place to be when life takes the proverbial dump on you. Hang in there girl!

  241. Steelag70 says:

This sucks…game already over by the third inning…this team is done…

  242. Patrick(ri) says:

Whatever Clint is thinking, it is wrong — even if he gets out with just 4

  243. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I kinda blame AJ. He is the one missing….by a lot.

  244. JRay3 says:

How is it possible this blog can all see after the Beltran AB and the Holliday AB and most certainly after the Adams AB where he was hit that AJ is toast yet no one in the Pirate dugout can see this?

  245. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Thank you AJ.
You’ve managed to summon your inner Jonathan Sanchez at the worst possible time.
Better hope this series doesn’t go 5 games.

  246. The Gunner says:

    Milo, Clint screwed up again.

  247. cmat0829 says:

well, let AJ pitch now. let him pitch to 100 pitches. no use using up the pen.

  248. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Now you can wrap it up. Sloppy sloppy….

  249. Steelag70 says:

    Getting our asses kicked…

  250. pattonbb says:

If I’m Hurdle, AJ stays out there for 6 innings, no matter what the score is.

  251. JRay3 says:

Just embarrassing, this team is going to need a lot of mental toughness to shower this stink off.

  252. Milo Hamilton says:

Come on Clint, one more batter. I know he will figure this out yet.

  253. Patrick(ri) says:

    Wow.

  254. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Peace out lunatics.
I got stuff to do this evening.
    See you all tomorrow.

  255. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Bwahahahahaha

    Yea they’re done. For tonight.

    That’s why its a series.

  256. JRay3 says:

Unfortunately about four five batters too late.

  257. theplanisworking says:

Being one can never criticize Clint, I just imagined AJ was allowed out there to the tune of 7 runs.

Yeah, thats the ticket, it was a dream.
    Carry On…………..

  258. Thundercrack says:

I hate to think this but why do I believe that a lot of those balls the Cardinels’ hitters were taking would have been a lot of swings & misses for Pirates’ hitters

  259. cmat0829 says:

wow, sorry, hurdle missed big time on this. sorry, no excuses, he screwed up…. AJ just sucked today. Right after Holliday double, Gomez should have been warming up… then after the walk you yank AJ and hope Gomez can get out of it somehow. That said, not sure we get more than 3 off of Wainright today anyway, but now it’s completely out of hand.

  260. The Gunner says:

Might as well put on Brian Williams & the NBC nightly news

  261. JRay3 says:

Is it too late to add Brandon Cumpton to the roster to make the spot start if needed?

  262. Nancy52 says:

Don’t have to worry about using up the battery in the remote tonight.

  263. Jim says:

    Australia……Gold Coast. Watching the game….it’s 8:20 am……Friday……andddddd. It’s 7-0❗️

  264. Karen22 says:

Hurdled. REALLY dumb. This is the PLAYOFFS! Can’t give away a game. WOW!

  265. Steve J. Smith says:

Two hard hit balls, three walks, a hit batsman, and a bleeder down the line lead to this debacle. Still no one out, and they only have themselves to blame. No control by AJ, and once again no offense. Long game already will be longer at 7-0.

  266. Eric Bowser says:

    Game over.

Guess we can criticize A.J. Burnett and Clint Hurdle….

  267. Karen22 says:

    DUH!!!

  268. Patrick(ri) says:

Couldn’t tell if the crowd applauded moving the runner up, or was just pity applause for an out?

  269. Thundercrack says:

Maybe Wainwright will be tired from batting twice in one inning

  270. Brandie says:

    LAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDD NIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEE!

  271. theplanisworking says:

    No.
    Criticism of Hurdle not allowed.

I prefer to think it was a bad dream.
And I am sticking with that.

  272. The Gunner says:

    Eric

Unfortunately, you are right. Maybe Wainwright will get out of his groove since he has been in the dugout so long.

  273. Brandie says:

    Hockey Hey Mr. Bowser!

  274. Milo Hamilton says:

Well, welcome to the big time boys.

  275. popsfan says:

When does the mercy rule kick in?

  276. Brandie says:

    Thank you 21 Gunner Salute.

  277. Steelag70 says:

    This team will get swept….

  278. JRay3 says:

Gomez shows Clint why move needed to be made after Holliday AB….would have had chance to keep it at 3.

  279. cmat0829 says:

AJ had no command. I think after the Beltran bomb of a HR, AJ then tried to just hit the corners and was WAAAAAAAAYYYYY OFF. Can’t afford to walk and hit batters with this lineup. When they smell blood, they put up huge innings. Freeze then did the Cardinal thing and flick the ball down the right field line and game goes from somewhat hopeless 4-0 hole to an embarrassing 7-0 deficit.

I’d be mildly surprised if this offense gets close to 4 runs today against Wainright… but if they do, then this one is on Hurdle. But if not, then my blame is 100% on AJ.

  280. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Some only show up to do that. What’s the point?

    Its obvious

  281. Brandie says:

    Hipposter! Warm fuzzies to you.

  282. Thundercrack says:

Sure you can. Just do us a favor and don’t preface the comments with “Being one can never criticize Clint…”

  283. Eric Bowser says:

Losing 7-0, what worse can happen now?

    Oh yeah, a no-hitter…

  284. Brandie says:

    Thank you too chic one.

  285. JRay3 says:

Your only as good as your next day’s starting pitcher, I like the Cole vs. Lynn matchup as Cole may have been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in September.

  286. OldSoldier21 says:

    Because seeing is believing?

  287. cmat0829 says:

today’s game has no bearing on how Cole will do in game 2 or Liriano will do in game 3 but thanks for your opinion.

  288. Brandie says:

Thank you for the support JRay Tre. :-)

  289. Brandie says:

    Bloggers and Bloggettes,

This sucks, but we know how to be resolute, both in the face of victory and in the clutches of defeat! We will prevail!

  290. Steelag70 says:

Just going by what I see…Buccos look intimidated…

  291. Brandie says:

    Got that right!

  292. tdb1977 says:

Love seeing all the nay-sayers that are coming out of the woodwork tonight. One game. That’s all this is today, one game. Tomorrow is another day. If I had a nickel for every time I saw this team was done, the collapse has started, so on and so forth, I would be pretty rich.

  293. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Matt Adams.

    Fat

  294. Steelag70 says:

    Buccos look lost and intimidated..)

  295. Brandie says:

    Way to state the obvious.

  296. cmat0829 says:

Matt Adams is scary on defense. Maybe he and Mike Adams can switch roles?

  297. theplanisworking says:

Almost every single time Hurdle is criticized, many come to defend him, even when he clearly makes a mistake. We also see Pirates 90, Hurdle 60, etc.

So in my view, which you NEVER agree with, and always argue with, I feel like any criticism of Hurdle is not allowed. Too many times I have seen the defense enacted to the point of foolishness.

Do us a favor and dont deny this happens on the blog.

  298. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Thank you.

Said much better than I. These idiots show up to bash the manager and/or team after 1 loss and start calling the series already?

Apparently some think runs carry over each game.

  299. Milo Hamilton says:

Here’s an internet hug for ya Brandie. Hang in there you wacky muppet you.

  300. cmat0829 says:

what channel are you watching that you can see how the team ‘feels’? i dont have that on my DirecTV. I see a piss-poor pitching performance and so far Wainright in command

  301. Steelag70 says:

    I hope I am wrong, trust me…

  302. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Really? Curious how they look intimidated.

  303. Milo Hamilton says:

How about a ball to the outfield ? Baby steps.

  304. theplanisworking says:

    Really?

What do you think of fans who both cheer and criticize?
You lumping them into the naysayer category too?

  305. Steelag70 says:

    I go by the results….

  306. OldSoldier21 says:

What time do they drop the puck?

  307. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    +7

  308. cmat0829 says:

    no perfect game.

  309. Eric Bowser says:

    Yay….. won’t be no-hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  310. cmat0829 says:

i think i’d bunt about 12 times in a row at Matt Adams, might as well have fun

  311. JRay3 says:

    Cutch being Cutch

  312. Milo Hamilton says:

Anyone that can survive Kiester I’m following into battle.

  313. Thundercrack says:

    Here is what happens:
Some people criticize Hurdle and then some come to defend him.

But some people praise Hurdle and some don’t agree with that and criticize him.

So you see (but you don’t seem to want to believe) is that it goes both ways.

  314. Patrick(ri) says:

    2bloops and a blast?

  315. pattonbb says:

You didn’t see McCutchen just battle back for a base hit? He was petrified out there. Scared to death, I say.

This game is about to be 7-3, by the way.

  316. tdb1977 says:

Just need to start chipping away at this lead. One run at a time. One hit at time. Now they have two on with two out. Byrd could help with closing the gap this inning.

  317. pattonbb says:

Saying a prayer for you and yours, Brandie.

  318. OldSoldier21 says:

Sorry to hear about your aunt. Love the hell out of her while you can, I will keep a good thought and prayer for her……

  319. Brandie says:

Thank you Milo. We gotta be strong. Criticism is healthy. I can’t be all doom and gloom. My aunt is one tough cookie. She got out of an abusive relationship, became a cop, and battled cancer with everything she has. If that is not a good example of everything a person can be then I don’t know what is.

  320. tdb1977 says:

    Guess not.

  321. pattonbb says:

    or not.

  322. Steelag70 says:

I cheer and die hard with my team….but I also reserve the right to criticize and give negative feedback if I so choose…

  323. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Of one game to determine how intimidated they are?

Move to Vegas, because you’re a magician.

  324. Keith says:

Now that it’s the 4th, I’ll say that AJ doesn’t make it through 3 and the Bucs will go 1-1.

  325. Brandie says:

    Thanks my main man!

  326. cmat0829 says:

right, i see a pirate team playing a bit sloppy in the field, a starting pitcher that got rocked, and Wainright being the ace that he is… but I don’t see the whole team as ‘intimidated’.
    but to each his own

  327. Brandie says:

Love the avatar. Thank you Grand Defender.

  328. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    +12

  329. Patrick(ri) says:

7 run lead and pitcher is still throwing curve balls in the dirt. I wonder why?

  330. Brandie says:

    Keep the faith darlin’.

  331. tdb1977 says:

I brought up the menu on my DirecTV remote and I dont see an option to see how the team feels. I dont even see a feature to say if I like or dislike what I’m seeing either. Must not have one of those no fangeled remotes.

  332. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Sure. All ya want. Plenty to criticize.

But calling the series over and swept, just plane ignorant.

  333. Steelag70 says:

    Hmmm

  334. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Dude really? Reread what he wrote.

  335. theplanisworking says:

I never said it doesnt go both ways. Nice try.
    You are reaching as usual.

  336. Milo Hamilton says:

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if there is a 5th game, A.J. Burnett will pitch it. And I’m more than fine with that.

  337. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Yea my bad….

  338. theplanisworking says:

I did read. I just asked a question, or isnt that allowed?

  339. Steelag70 says:

Thanks for your commentary and opinion..

  340. pattonbb says:

    You too, Brandie.

  341. Patrick(ri) says:

Any other choice would be chicken****

  342. Brandie says:

It was not AJ’s night and I guess he did not get to position Barmes exactly where he wanted him.

  343. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Need to turn the sensitivity factor down a bit Plan.

  344. Steelag70 says:

You have to drink the kook-aid Plan…

  345. Thundercrack says:

When did you say it goes both ways. I don’t see it.

And you keep saying that criticizing Clint is not allowed.
    And that just isn’t true.

  346. cmat0829 says:

    lol

  347. Patrick(ri) says:

I would have him on a short leash, which would appear to be obvious . . .

  348. Eric Bowser says:

was there even a doubt with that.

Sucks A.J. Burnett pitched like Kip Wells but it isn’t like they have some other option.

  349. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    I’m pretty good at it….thanks

  350. theplanisworking says:

I dont drink kool-aid, or not drink kool-aid.
I cheer when appropriate, and I criticize when appropriate………….. so both sides think I am wrong. Still remember the day on here where I was attacked by both sides……. truly funny stuff.

Just tired of people on both sides trying to tell others what to say or not say. Little sick of that crap.

  351. cmat0829 says:

    EL TORO!!!!!!!!!

  352. OldSoldier21 says:

    PETEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  353. Milo Hamilton says:

    That’s it. Just keep playing.

  354. Steve J. Smith says:

Pedro gets one back with a blast to right. 7-1 now.

  355. JRay3 says:

El Toro strikes again and gets the Buccos on the board….nicely done Pedro!

  356. Steelag70 says:

    I agree…

  357. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    So sensitive plan..

He’s calling out the ones that just show up to bash the team/manager.

We all are critical. Hurdle left AJ in way too long.

    AJ sucked it up.

  358. pattonbb says:

Wins between these two have been lopsided all year. They win one game 10-2, we win one 9-0. Not going to jump off a cliff because AJ reverted back to AJ the Yankee for 3 innings. Cole will be dealing tomorrow.

Criticize Hurdle all you want. Lord knows he deserves it at times. But the next “That was a great move by Hurdle” comment I read on here will be the first one.

Pedro puts us on the board.

    Lets Go Bucs.

  359. Thundercrack says:

We have a quick strike offense!

(And an offense that takes a lot of strikes :-)

  360. Brandie says:

Gettin’ way too heavy in here with the same circular argument of criticism vs no criticism. Needed some levity.

  361. Steelag70 says:

    Wow…

  362. cmat0829 says:

oh they would definitely have options, notably Gerrit Cole who would be on regular rest. but AJ has earned the right to atone for this performance, if we can force the 5th game (or maybe we can just win the next 3!).

  363. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Don’t hear anyone criticizing you plan.

    Good grief

  364. cmat0829 says:

Seems to me El Toro has really picked up his game the past week or so.. .much better at bats… me thinks it is time to swap him back into the 4th spot….

  365. theplanisworking says:

Why would I have to say it goes both ways? You are just being contrarian as usual.

I explained to you that I never said it DOESNT go both ways…….. meaning I understand it goes both ways. Why cant you understand that? It is because you just want to argue, as you always do.

If criticizing Clint was allowed, then why do we get Pirates 90, Clint 60…………. Hurdle always gets criticized for no reason, etc.

    Again, nice try.
Really dont understand your need to argue with me, even if I say the sky is blue.
    You, sir need help.

I am not flattered you always come after me.
Actually, I am disturbed with it.

  366. BDHumbert says:

AJ has been awesome – made a big difference in this team IMHO…

But it is over – he should retire…

Would love to have the chance to say thank you to him – but he should not touch the mound again as a Pirate…

  367. theplanisworking says:

Never said he was criticizing me tonight, Ryan.
Just making observations on what happens on the blog in general.

But thanks for the “good grief”.
    I always liked Charlie Brown…….

  368. JRay3 says:

Very true on the “that was a great move by Clint” line. It is easy to second guess, question and manage from afar.

He is the one that guided, willed and motivated this team to a 94-68 mark, took them to first post season since Jim Leyland, earned first playoff win since October of ’92.

Glad he is the Bucs skipper.

  369. theplanisworking says:

    1) Those who do nothing but bash Hurdle/team === trolls.

    2) By pointing out stuff that has actually happened in the past === sensitive?

    Gotcha.

  370. OldSoldier21 says:

From an old movie, cause I am old:

D-Day: [to Bluto] Let it go. War’s over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.

Bluto: What? Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

    Otter: [to Boon] Germans?

    Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.

Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough…

[thinks hard of something to say]

Bluto: The tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!

  371. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Ha ha

  372. Patrick(ri) says:

Wasn’t he just brilliant a couple of starts ago?

  373. Brandie says:

To each his own…criticize, don’t criticize, or do both. I don’t care because the bigger point is being missed…This is October baseball and the Bucs are playing. I wanted them to win the game because it would have picked up an otherwise sucktastically rotten day. It was not meant to be, apparently, but all of this circular arguing is giving me a headache!

  374. Brandie says:

Said it better than I could.

  375. theplanisworking says:

    Sorry Muppet.
    You are correct.
I will leave, and make it better.

See anyone on the Pens thread.

    GO BUCS, anyway!!!!!!

  376. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Tough call.

Produced all season long. Never got run support. Work horse all season long.

    Blew up in playoffs.

  377. Milo Hamilton says:

    The “defensive” shortstop.

  378. The Gunner says:

    Nice throw by St. Barmes

  379. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Wondering same thing. At least he’s a power threat behind Cutch.

  380. Thundercrack says:

Clint screwed up the playoff roster. We need Jeff Locke for mop up duty.

    See!! EYE criticized Hurdle.

  381. JRay3 says:

Would not upset me if CH iserts the “offensive” shortstop tomorrow afternoon just to shake it up.

Certainly not Barmes’ best day in the field today.

  382. JRay3 says:

or if he chooses to insert

  383. Scott says:

Anyone over 30 who has a bad start must retire.

  384. Milo Hamilton says:

At least he could punt. Oh, wrong Jeff Locke.

  385. Thundercrack says:

I want him to come back. But my fear is that he doesn’t have the fastball anymore and is too much of a curveball pitcher

  386. Scott says:

The important thing to keep in mind is that the Cardinals needed this game. The Pirates didn’t.

Bucs win tomorrow, and it was a successful trip to St. Louis.

  387. OldSoldier21 says:

Drew will not be pleased. I think he has trade marked the use of EYE in that context. ;)

  388. The Gunner says:

    Sad but true, TC

  389. The Gunner says:

    Jack Wilson, he is not

  390. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    No.

Sensitive is your repeated mention of how people get butthurt over something you had to say…

Or your insistant whining when someone disagrees with you….

I’ll stop there, I mean no harm.

  391. JohninOshkosh says:

You are a valued member of this blog, Brandie. A breath of fresh air every time you are here. Hug your aunt for us.

  392. popsfan says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing someone other than Morneau at first, myself

  393. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Sure. Adams catches that one.

  394. Patrick(ri) says:

Marte is WAY overmatched against Wainwright.

  395. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I truly believe this game was a bonus had they won and gotten passed their ace.

The way Cole and Liriano have been pitching, even more excited for tomorrow’s bright and early game.

  396. cmat0829 says:

agree, i’ve watched many an NBA playoff series where the road team gets throttled in game 1 and comes back and steals game 2. not saying basketball = baseball but a split for the Pirates was always the realistic goal in STL

  397. irishjim says:

I agree with you Scott. I just wish the manager hadn’t thought that way as well.

  398. cmat0829 says:

and i also think the quick turn is a positive for the Bucs… shower well, and back at it at noon local time tomorrow..not a lot of time to dwell on this one. i think i may put Buck in for the last 3 innings and give Martin’s knees a break though.

  399. Thundercrack says:

I blame Drew for all of this. He had to go and start something with his boss who is from St Louis.

  400. cmat0829 says:

    didnt have to bend over.

  401. KenKopp says:

Hey Brandie, Prayers to your family.

  402. OldSoldier21 says:

He is fine if he has command, pitched behind in the count because he couldn’t locate anything he was throwing. That is the key, if he doesn’t have it early – limit the damage and get him out of there. No long leashes for any pitcher now…..

  403. Patrick(ri) says:

That probably makes too much sense.

  404. Brandie says:

    I will Johnny B. Good.

  405. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I think he still has some zip. Think he hit 94 tonight.

I see next years rotation as:

    1. Liriano
    2. Cole
    3. Wandy (assuming he picks his option)
    4. Morton
    5. Burnett, Locke, Cumpton, Pimental, Gomez, Taillon.

Could save the $$$$ and add some offense.

  406. Brandie says:

    Thank you Hop on Kopp!

  407. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Good point.

  408. irishjim says:

I wasn’t buying the intimidated card, until Cutch just booted that ball.

  409. Milo Hamilton says:

    Not enough errors either. :)

  410. OldSoldier21 says:

Well, the Bucs got outscored by a bunch in the 1960 series, but they still won 4 games and got to hoist the trophy. We have that going for us…. Play for a split on the road and a sweep at home. A 1-0 win tomorrow would be just fine with me…..

  411. Steve J. Smith says:

Yet again lead off walks and other walks and hit batsman are killing this team. Hopefully they are getting all the crappy play and pitching out of their system for this series. They still have two more games at least. Take a couple showers tonight to get over this one and come back and crush Lynn tomorrow.

  412. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Let’s hope this game gets all the slop out.

    Really a poor showing….

  413. Brandie says:

I like the perspective. Every day of extra baseball is bonus!

  414. OldSoldier21 says:

    Absobucnlutely!

  415. cmat0829 says:

I’d bump Morton up to 3 spot… since he is more of a sure thing at this point, both health wise and returning. It’d be the SHOCK of the century if Wandy did not pick up his option to return… whether he is healthy or not is another thing.

You know, it’s weird the situation we have now with AJ. When the Bucs got him, it was a perfect move, not only because he is a veteran who can actually pitch, but because the 2 years he signed for were the perfect bridge to Cole and Taillon. Similar to the Martin signing being a bridge to Tony Sanchez, as well as a massive upgrade for the 2 years. I’m not so sure, if Wandy is healthy, that you try all that hard to sign AJ for another year… I know Neal has said he wants him back, and I am fine with that, but I’m also fine if we let AJ go. If we knew Wandy was gonna be ok, it would be even easier to let AJ go. Taillon is coming in June and when he comes he gets a spot. With AJ and Wandy around, you’d likely have to trade someone to make a spot for Taillon. good problem to have.

  416. toochca says:

Agreed Ryan!! Tomorrow is another day with different circumstances.

  417. Lad 9 says:

I know some that never recovered from Kiester….

  418. Thundercrack says:

I’m not saying that they should have kept 3 catchers on the playoff roster, but if they had now would have been a good time to give Martin a breather.

And maybe they should get Mercer in there. Get his feet wet in the playoffs now that it will be low pressure.

Just don’t criticize Clint Hurdle. That is not allowed here.

  419. cmat0829 says:

cant give Cardinals ANY walks or HBPs… easier said than done because they take more pitches than Jason Veritek in a rainstorm but you just have to make them hit to beat you.

  420. Thundercrack says:

I’ll bet you that Wandy picks up the option.

    Why wouldn’t he?

  421. cmat0829 says:

agree that subs should be forthcoming…especially Martin… don’t need a 3rd catcher to make that move.

and no doubt Clint left AJ in too long today.

I posted that liberally above in real time during the pitching meltdown. was unabridged criticism.

  422. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I don’t think Mercer would hurt anything and might as well throw Tabby out there as well.

Criticize Hurdle all you want, just don’t whine about it…

  423. cmat0829 says:

Matt Adams makes Zagurski look like a figure skater.

  424. PittMI says:

you did not criticize or give negative feedback- you boldly stated that they will not win the series based on the game so far

  425. Lad 9 says:

Everybody buried the Bucs after game 2 in 1971 and that worked out ok. Pirates in four. Go Buccos! Intimidated? Really??? Wow!

  426. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

That’s not intimidated, that’s over running the ball.

  427. Thundercrack says:

    So true Brandie.

Earlier in the game it hit me that the team I saw in Bradenton in March is still playing in October.

  428. Brandie says:

His aunt owns a beauty shop in town. He was bigger. He came home in the off season and would eat his mom’s stick to your ribs cooking. The team hired a nutritionist to teach him how to eat.

  429. Bob Hasis says:

Some of us have been seeing it all year; some of you are just now catching on.

His decisions and thought processes are muddled.

Then there’s that weak armed SS, who can’t complete a ROUTINE DP

  430. Steelag70 says:

Their last 4 games played in St Louis….all like this…needs to change tomorrow.

  431. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Exactly. Unless he thinks he can get another long term deal.

  432. Brandie says:

Sometimes it’s not your night. Time to suck it up and regroup.

  433. Baywatch says:

Don’t know if this has been raised but LEST WE FORGET: The Yankees pretty much obliterated us when they won in ’60. Just one game.

  434. Reading says:

The Pirates only need one win in STL to regain home field advantage. Remember 10-0, 12-0, 16-3 in 60. This falls into one of those.

  435. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Can’t forget about Kartsens. Never know. Decent #5 guy.

Just a lot of options still.

I was gonna put Morton at 3 as well, but more of the lefty/right switch.

  436. OldSoldier21 says:

Good point. The Orioles were heavily favored in that series. They were the defending champs, and had a starting rotation that featured FOUR 20 game winners. The Bucs didn’t have a single 20 game winner on their staff, although they had two that were close – Ellis with 19 and Blass with 18…….

  437. Reading says:

    Jinks.

  438. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Tip your hat to Jeanmar. He pitched well.

  439. Brandie says:

One game at a time. Can’t eat the whole pie last once, it’ll give you a belly ache. Savor. One bite at a time!

  440. irishjim says:

    +

  441. Bob Hasis says:

and of course he NEVER hits, but CH continues to trot him out there

  442. Milo Hamilton says:

He should hit Mercer for Barmes here to get him in there & an inning in the field.

  443. toochca says:

    +4

  444. Brandie says:

    Makes sense Milo!

  445. Brandie says:

Mop up duty. Got him the experience and got his confidence up. In a loss like this, sometimes it’s best to lay the ground work for the next battle.

  446. OldSoldier21 says:

    Pens are up 2 – 0 after one period…..

  447. Milo Hamilton says:

When Gomez, Mazzaro & Morris pitch – we lost.

  448. Dom says:

Since this game is lost, why don’t we get every position play a chance to get in so they wont have any butterflies later in the series.

  449. Brandie says:

Chuck Kobasew and Sidney Crosby…watching now.

  450. OldSoldier21 says:

Never good to see the “long mans’” name in the box score…..

  451. Wild Bill says:

We’re going to face Wainwright again this series (if we keep it going long enough, and I think we will). Sure hope we can be more competitive with him next time.

  452. Steve J. Smith says:

Don’t know if it was due to too much partying after the wild card victory, but they need to wake up from this funk they are in against STL. Just one game. Shake it off and come out tomorrow with your heads, bats, and arms in the game.

  453. Steve J. Smith says:

Cutch isn’t giving up with that second hit.

  454. Dom says:

Burnett always played poorly at st louis. Too bad Liriano couldn’t start game 1 or 2. He always has the cardinals number.

  455. OldSoldier21 says:

Bucs lose game 1 of the NLDS in a laugher. Let that sink in – they are playing in the NLDS, who saw that before opening day? Now they need to win tomorrow and sweep at home.

  456. toochca says:

Just one game!! Win tomorrow and they split the series!! Stay safe everyone. Until you tomorrow.

  457. Brandie says:

    Take care Goody Toochca!

  458. toochca says:

I certainly did not!! Great to be along for the ride!!

  459. Brandie says:

The Bucs will fight with everything they have. They won’t give up and neither will I. Until tomorrow!

  460. toochca says:

    I like it!! Night Brandilicious!

  461. Karen22 says:

YEP…tomorrow is another day. I’ll be at a sports bar. Gerrit Cole to the rescue!!!!

  462. KenKopp says:

    Hey Nickname Girl.

9-1, 1-0. Still the same result. Post season baseball has some weird turns. It is better being on the inside watching it though

Hop on Kopp. I’m starting to think you are a relative of Dr Suess.

We win one of two on the road I like our chances.

    Lets go Bus!

  463. Arriba Wilver says:

Last start of the season for AJ —against Cincy in Cincy.

    8 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run.

Yep, he should retire because he sucked today.

  464. Lad 9 says:

Branimal/KK: right with ya. Blip on the radar, drop on the windshield, pinhole in the…well maybe not the pinhole. :) You get my drift. Shower it off and get em tomorrow!

  465. Brandie says:

    Greetings Temptress!

  466. Brandie says:

I always tell my kids take each experience, sort out your emotions, separate what went well from what did not, and go get em’.

  467. Brandie says:

    Let’s Go Bus?

Jerome Bettis or Auto Correct strikes again. I like your sentiment Kopptain Kangaroo!

  468. KenKopp says:

Back at ya Dr Suess. Garett Cole with a special pitching performance tomorrow and a couple runs. Yeah.

  469. Brandie says:

The kid will show em’ how it’s done!

  470. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

And even if this continues, we’ll always have the Wild Card game. We didn’t have the postseason for 20 years. But we got it back. Here’s looking at you, kid.

    Play it, Sam:

    :-D

  471. Daquido_Bazzini says:

It might sounds crazy, but I sure haven’t seen much in the Cards all year.
I think that line up is nowhere near as threatening as it used to be, and the pitching staff (obviously Wainright is the ace) is rather bland to me.
However….They have a good amount of playoff experience, and they win.
    That’s what it’s all about.
The Pirates need to win tomorrow, but I won’t say it’s over if they don’t.

  472. Baywatch says:

Kopptain Kangaroo? LOL! Brandelta Conchita Consuela La Linda Flor!

  473. Baywatch says:

In the words of Clint Hurdle, Him be “wearing big boy pants now!”

  474. bizrow says:

    Welcome, Jim, duly added

  475. bizrow says:

    +++++++++++

  476. John Lease says:

Barmes bat more than makes up…

    Never mind.

  477. John Lease says:

    Unfortunately, that counts for squat.

He couldn’t field too well either. Another ofer in a career filled with them.

  478. Jandy says:

Barmes isn’t the only one who made an error last night.

  479. Jandy says:

I repeat: Barmes didn’t make the only error of this horrid game. Motrneau should have had hit mitt on at least one grounder that went by him…the same for Walker. Cutch wasn’t too spiffy out there, either.
This team wins and loses AS A TEAM. You can pick on Barmes all you want, nothing changes that.

  480. John Lease says:

Isn’t it time for a snarky post how the Pirates won X games and Hurdle lost X games?

Cuz it’s been super entertaining so far.

  481. Jandy says:

As Brandie said in this morning’s post….time to cut the snark and have some respect for each other.
This team wins and loses AS A TEAM.
    Thank you for your interest.

    :)
