  2. My horoscope today…might as well be the Pirates’!

    October 06, 2013
    Pisces (2/19-3/20):
You’ll be in a great mood today, full of good humor and unlimited hope — so it’s a great day to pick an obstacle and fly right over it! You are feeling confident and energized enough to go the distance, no matter how far it is. Pick your battle early in the day, and by tonight you should have a very satisfying solution all worked out. This accomplishment, although it might not seem huge to some people, will make you feel warm and fuzzy all over — and ready for the next success.

  3. Posting for Playoffs

    Playoffs by 2012 says:

    October 6, 2013 at 11:51 am

Mrs. Playoffs and I are headed over to the North Shore in a few minutes to grab some lunch and then take in Game 3. I need a helper to post today’s line for me. Thank you in advance.

The Window will continue throughout the duration of the playoffs.
September and October will be combined and all winners will be announced at the conclusion of the playoffs.

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Pick ‘Em Line
What Will Francisco Liriano Get in Today’s Game?
    Win (EVEN ODDS)
    Loss (DOUBLE ODDS)
    No Decision (EVEN ODDS)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Anything is possible if a person believes

  4. Power of Bowser (son and I – lol) will be in section 139 for today’s game… let’s look for more Bowser Blasts at PNC Park.

    Enjoy the game!

    Beat Em Bucs

Look for me at the game, I’ll be wearing black ;-)

  6. One has to keep in mind that Joe Kelly has been a pain in the “you know where” as this season has unfolded.
The Pirates have been shutout the vast majority of innings that he has pitched against them.
The crowd needs to (and I believe will) get on him early and STAY on him.
This guy is trying to make a name for himself, and today is the day he wants to assure himself of that goal.

  7. Hey DK. Sorry about the “No cheering in the press box” question a few days ago. I would never intentionally insult you. I can’t grasp how you could hold back, but I’m a fan and you are very much the professional. Love your work and look forward to it each and every day. I guess if your parents still question it you may be able to understand my confusion. I get it now and apologize if you took it as an insult.

Me, I’m no where near a press box at the moment, so GO BUCS!

DK: It’s not even an issue, Ken. Thanks.

  8. Sending good vibes out to our blog Muppet. Hope you are doing OK Brandie!

  9. can we even hope that the crowd will be louder than tuesday?

    • One of the differences between today and the WC is that the Cards will be ready for it. No one was ready for Tuesday’s crowd reaction. Not to say it won’t be loud—it will.

    • I’m not sure it can be.

One difference is that this game is 4:30 on a Sunday and the other one was 8pm on a Tuesday.

    • Well, I am thinkin this crowd will have had more time to get lubricated than they did Tuesday. Prolly some serious tailgateing going on as we speak soo…….

    • No. Nothing can surpass Tuesday because the noise and emotion was so authentic. That’s not to say that today’s crowd might not break the noise-meter at times, but Tuesday was a unique and very special day in the history of Pittsburgh sports. Future crowds (including today) will be passionate and loud and emotional, but there were too many factors that combined to make Tuesday unmatchable. There was no, “Let’s see how loud we can get” thing. That was just so…real.

That being said, tonight’s crowd WILL be insane if the Bucs get a lead or stay tied.

  10. Great piece by Jayson Stark on Frankie from a couple days ago on the four-letter.

Someone may have already mentioned it. Sorry if you have. I believe he and DK are buds.

  11. I haven’t heard it written anywhere that the Pirates will be wearing black jerseys throughout the playoffs, but can we assume this is true?

  12. I think that’s the beauty of the “alternate” jersey; teams can decide when and how to use them. It seems teams sort of have to have home whites and road grays/other colors, but alternates (a la Cubs blue and Royals lt. blue) can be used whenever. Kind of cool.

  13. Don’t you think Coach Hurdle is putting himself and the team in a bad spot by announcing Morton as the game 4 starter? Lets say for instance Liriano wins today and Morton loses tomorrow. His choices will be Burnett or Cole. Burnetts ERA in Saint Louis is hovering around 13.5 runs per 9 since 2012. At Home against the Cards its 1.3. In order to choose Cole Hurdle will have to squash, Smash and totally dismantle the ego of AJ Burnett, when he chooses to skip him. Why would you not give AJ the game at PNC?

    • BTW – correct me if im wrong but didnt Morton not look so good in Cincy during his last start. kind of danced through the rain drops while walking 5. Lasted 4-1/3 innings? Didnt ground Chuck get turned into Ground beef when he last faced the Cardinals. Something like 5 runs in an inning and two thirds….At PNC

    • There is no other choice to start game 4 other than Morton. No one else is able to start that game.

Have no idea what you are asking.

      • It would be interesting to know if AJ ever pitched on 3 days rest – I doubt it…

But it would be tempting if they won today to try and close out the series perhaps having AJ in the bullpen to swoop in if Morton shows ANY sign of trouble…

Morton has pitched well enough to earn a start IMHO…

      • He only threw 72 pitches. He was probably ready to pitch yesterday.

  14. 1. Factor of crowd today, Cards seem to think Kelly will be fine, difference is St a Louis crowd quiet. He is coming into a hockey game environment. He does not have Cole’s pedigree.

    2. Holliday has been awful at PNC in left, crowd wil be on him early and all game Jay has taken some unusual routes even in St Louis. He is no Jim Edmonds. Freeze has froze at third on several plays.

    3. Hopefully fans near stands will understand opposing players should not venture into out park. All for fairness, but when ball is in stands, they should stand no chance, that is home field advantage.

    4. Morneau gonna break out with HR today.

    5. Biggest development game 2 was Grilli hitting 95. Big difference between 92. We can make games 7 inning games.

Can’t wait. No Steeler game but Sunday saved by Bucs. I feel we win and do not go back to St Louis for a game 5.

  15. Sitting around watching the Red Zone Channel and waiting for the game to start…

Not sure why it popped into my head – but was wondering what the impact on revenues was of a home playoff game for the bucs – has anybody seen anything on this?

  16. anyone know of a site to stream the radio broadcast for free?

  17. True story Lunnies.

I’m getting my morning java and I look out the window and there is a Cardinal in the bird bath. I think this can’t be a good omen, and I consider going out and chasing him. Then a big Black Bird flies in and chases him out. The Card sits in the shrubbery waiting for Blackie to leave and here comes another Black Bird, and another and another and there are probably 15 of ‘em in the bushes. The Cardinal flies off and I’m thinking The Black Birds just said “Not today Cardinal, not in this bird bath.” OK that’s a better omen. My wife walks in and I guess I had some kind of look on my face and she says “Whats going on?” I just tell her “YOU wouldn’t believe me if I told you.” I swear that happened just this morning.

    Go Bucs!

  18. Crank it up, PNC People!

  19. Happy Sunday Afternoon Everyone! PLAY BALL!

  20. LET’S GO BUCS!!!

  21. Just like Tues night baby!!

  22. Frankie is on again….

  23. Beautiful Francisco Beautiful!

  24. Great start Frankie!!

  25. Listening to it on ESPN radio….Sutcliffe can’t believe that Liriano in Oct is throwing it at 94 mph…but them admits that the fact he didn’t start tthe season umtil May, should be an advantage for Frankie…not worn down with innings…

  26. The crowd should start dead silent. Wait for a reason.

  27. Did Kelly just smirk that he struck out Neil?

  28. I like the UMp when Frankie’s pitching, but he really sucks when Kelly is. ;-)

To be honest, though, he’s so off it should be embarrassing to MLB.

  29. Come on Morny….

  30. Work the counts…make Kelly throw pitches….

  31. Woo Hoo that’s the way to do it. The Birdman has arrived.

  32. Gotta take advantage.

    Let’s go Byrd

  33. Nice.

  34. THE BYRD MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. BYRD AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 Good Guys !!!

  36. Crowd will REALLY take off now…

  37. Leftys are going to need longer bats, today.

  38. Sorry I’m late to the party…

My pick-to-click today (outside of what Byrd just did) is Pedro.

Not saying he’ll go yard today, but I think he’s gonna mash.

Liriano is going to shut the Cards down. I predict 8 strong.

  39. Great start Buccos!!

  40. Now that is the proper way to begin a game. Love, Love, LOVE IT.

  41. Great AB by Morneau that inning…

  42. 2 quick things…………..

    1) Marlon Byrd might ne one of the best trade deadline acquisitions in Pirate history.
    2) This ump might start calling balls near the dugout strikes. Yikes.

  43. quick inning, frankie…let’s get kelly back out there on the mound.

  44. Have to think that the Pitchtrax graphic MUST be off… otherwise, the ump is calling 6inches outside strikes on the Pirates hitters…and just called a pitch on the outside corner a ball to Molina, of all batters….

  45. This ump is horrible…

  46. FRANKIE!!!

  47. Frankie is da man!!

  48. Liriano is through 2 innings on 30 pitches, Kelly threw 29 in the first alone.

  49. Getting tired of this Kelly guy….we need to get him out of there…

  50. So what’s happening Bucco fans? Did I miss anything? ;)

  51. Good EYE Papa Francisco

  52. Not sure why the Bucs were giving the Ump some flak during Martin’s at bat. The strikes he called were well within the strike zone. Unless that pitch track thing IS way off.

  53. Anyone catch Dick Stockton say that Kelly had too much swag to think the Keeeeellllyyy, Keeeeellllyyy would affect him?

    What a tool.

He’s as hip as an ankle.

My 14 year old corrected him, said he used it wrong.

  54. Anyone notice that this ump sucks?

    Really. Bad.

  55. Come on Starling…geeezzzzz

  56. Another thing.

    Is it MORE-no

seems every announcer pronounced it differently.

  57. Come on Frankie….

  58. hmmmm….

  59. Come on guys! Geeezzz….

  60. Beltran is the ONE guy in the lineup that scares me.

I know what they all do as a team with RISP, this guy is scary good.

  61. I swear the Cards will not swing at stuff in the dirt…

  62. Carlos Beltran draws a walk loading the bases. :(

  63. Come on Frankie!!

  64. Sitting on the patio of World of Beer, watching the game and enjoying a Red Thunder by Victory Brewing Company (Pennsylvania). It is a Baltic Porter, aged in Wente Vineyards red wine barrels, 8.5% ABV.

Just letting you all know that I’m doing MY part for a Victory.

  65. Tough hitter – nice. I actually wanted him to have to put it in the air!

  66. The Byrd Man!!!

  67. Oh Francisco my heart can’t take it. Oh well I have a Birthday party to go to so I will be signing off now. Catch you on the flip side.

  68. my wife was running to the kitchen and asked if i wanted anything. my reply was yes…the bottom of the 9th inning…right now…

  69. And by the way. This is the best the Steelers have looked all season.

  70. AHHHHH……

  71. Don’t like the feel of this game right now…

  72. frankie is fighting cold symptoms stockton says

  73. Frankie getting hit hard a bit here….

  74. Barmes is smooth

  75. Nice 1,2,3 for Frankie, I like that……

  76. Nice D Barmes….

  77. 4 down. 5 to go. Yes, I am counting innings.

  78. Be nice to add on. Don’t think 2 will be enough today.

  79. Come on Pedro….

  80. I hate this Kelly kid…

  81. the crowd is too quiet for me….

  82. Too many whiffs for my liking. Need some more runs, fellas……

  83. Liriano needs to start throwing strikes, NOW! Pitcher has a chance to put two men in scoring position……

  84. Come on Frankie…let’s get back on track…

  85. Not good. Obvious bunt situation now.

    Get the out.

Carpenter is a lefty, get a K on him. Could still get out of it.

  86. Now I’m getting worried. Bottom of the order, two on, no outs.

  87. Nice story on TBS broadcast.

It seems several players on both teams went to see the Pens last night (I didn’t see the game so I’m not sure if that was mentioned). Also, Redbird manager Mike Matheny got to see his daughter play collegiate hockey up in Erie. She plays forward for The Ohio State University.

  88. Frankie has to grind this inning out. Could be a turning point.

  89. Layne is horrible…

  90. Uggghhh….

  91. Gets a K, but the double steal is good. Beltran is at the plate. I say walk him……

  92. PS. That was the third out

  93. COME ON FRANKIE…..geezzzzzz

  94. Is it me or did it appear Pedro had the tag on Jay before his foot hit the bag? Big call now, as Beltran ties it with a single

    • I think the ball beat him there, Pedro missed the tag and Jay slide on by.

    • Looked to me like that, too, but the angle of the slo-mo wasn’t ideal.

    • Seemed pretty clear, yes he tagged him. Should have kept the glove close as Jay jumped off the bag as well.

    • He was out. Toe wasn’t in until after the tag.

Bigger question is why was Pedro looking over to second rather than holding the tag on the runner. Then there would have been no doubt.

      • Because usually, and what Pedro did, was a sweep tag. That type of tag doesn’t allow you to keep the tag on him.

He was looking at 2nd for a possible backdoor play. Then he went to argue with the ump.

        • What prevents the third baseman from keeping the glove on the foot or leg there?

And if the runner is coming in hot because of a hook slide and not a direct path to the base, why not keep the glove on the runner knowing his momentum will be carrying him by the bag?

      • Typically, umps give benefit to the defensive team when throw beats the runner and there is no extraordinary slide to elude it…. Jay pretty much went right into the base and to me the tag was clearly there.

That said, Pedro needs to work on tags at 3rd…he often times is out of position (lunges toward the throw instead of letting the ball get to him)… he has missed a slew of these over the past 2 years or so.

        • I agree with you on Pedro because I have seen it as well.

        • My perspective was that Jay’s foot made it to the plane of the bag before Pedro tagged him, but it wasn’t clear from the angle (from the home plate side of the bag) whether Jay touched the outfield side of the bag before Pedro got him. It didn’t look like Jay hit the Second Base side of the bag before Pedro tagged him. Clear? ;-)

          • I agree with you AW on the “plane of the bag” aspect. But normally, if the cleat is hitting the bag at all, you would see the bag slightly give or the edge pop up just a tad. I didn’t see any cloth move in super slow-mo.

So my question now is why the heck didn’t the ump see in real time what I saw (and, in this case, didn’t see) in super slow-mo? Ha!

  95. Beltran drives in 2 – brand new ballgame

  96. Crap.

  97. Dang!

  98. DAMNIT!!!!

  99. Dang it. Beltran is a great hitter and they let him beat us.

  100. Now it’s an interesting game, huh?

  101. Told them to walk him – but I guess this makes it more exciting.

  102. Should’ve walked Beltran to load the bases on that situation.

  103. Not Frankie’s day….

  104. Bats have to solve Kelly again…

  105. I did not (don’t) want to see Vin Mazzaro today.

  106. Bud Selig musta gotten to the third base umpire.

    Only possible explanation.

  107. These are the playoffs – How did this umpire crew get chosen? Was everyone else busy?

  108. Looks like Frankie will stay in there…

  109. Nice hit Barmes…get it started….

  110. You cant stop Barmes, you can only hope to contain him……

  111. it’s time for a Marte partay…who’s with me????

  112. Nice job Frankie!

  113. Good time for the Buccos to remind everyone that Joe Kelly is not Bob Gibson. (At least, I don’t think he is).

  114. Come on Starling…geeezzzz

  115. Marte works the count full after on 0-2 count and pops up to the first baseman. Now would be a good time for PRNW to get his first hit……

  116. Damn, Marte had the fastball to hit and couldn’t do so. Come on, Neil, would be big to answer back

  117. Come on Neil…you are due….

  118. Is it an understatement to say it would be nice for Walker to get out of this slump?

  119. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but the PitchTrax seems off by at least 6 inches. Whoever calibrated it before the game must have been drunk.

  120. Neil is scuffling right now…

  121. Dangit…

  122. Based on the first strike call to Neil, I’d say PitchTrax is off by about 8 inches to the right (that pitch maybe was on inside corner to NW and PT had it down the middle)….. so adjust accordingly.

  123. Freaking Selig.

  124. Cant afford to leave runners on…………… Kelly is looking good out there.
At least next inning we have the heart of the order up.

  125. Oh well, we must be using the “let’s bore the fans to death” strategy to keep them in the game…. It is a Sunday, there might be a noise ordinance….

  126. Frankie still in. Don’t know if that’s a good idea…

  127. The cards are just not offering at those offspeed pitches…

  128. Man this game is awesome. Flying by except for the extra long commercial breaks. Pitching, guys scuffling, close calls, nail biting every minute of the way. This is what I hoped for back on opening day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, every day this season.

Can’t complain (but I will), but this is great.

  129. Frankie not his sharpest, he’s battling… glad to see bullpen warming up and a short leash.

  130. Score one for the shift, MATT ADAMS goes hungry.

  131. Nice bounce back inning Frankie…

  132. Let’s go Bucs…get some runs…

  133. Get it started Cutch!

  134. Kelly can’t find the plate with Cutch in the box. Cutch nearly gets hit by ball four….. Lead off man on.

  135. Look out Cutch!

  136. One down, weak fly to left by More-no

  137. Dangit Morneau…

  138. It’s sobering. One of these clubs faces a must win tomorrow.

  139. BYRD DOUBLES TO LEFT – 2 RISP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  140. BYRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  141. Byrd!

    Great pickup!

  142. BYRD IS THE WORD……………………. double thanks to Matt Holliday playing um, defense, in left field

  143. The Byrd Man!!!!!!

  144. The crowd is into it now, hopefully the crew will respond!!!!

  145. Marlon has tyo make up fpor some lost years of post season play… ;)

  146. Byrd is the word.

Now, it’s time to bite the Cardinals with a little strategic RISPing of their own!

  147. Holliday played that ball like it was a hand grenade… Is it possible Matt Adams plays the best defense on the team (other than Molina)? Fat jokes aside, the big guy is pretty decent.

  148. What would a GS do to that crowd? :D

  149. Petey get the IBB, My favorite Martin just has to make them PAY!

  150. Ok Russ….up to you know….you have been a cardinal killer…

  151. Barmes is due for two hits in one game :)

  152. Dont like it, but smart move on Cards part.

Doesn’t mean Martin doesn’t make them pay.

  153. I like Martin in this situation. He’s done it for us all year.

  154. No wait, Russ is gonna nail one…

  155. Cards walk Pedro to get to the clutch-hitting Russell Martin. And Kelly is no-more. MAY-NESS…MAY-NESS….MAY-NESS…..

  156. Kelly is out…and that’s my cue to let the dog out…brb

  157. Busch Stadium Cardinal fans would have cheered Kelly if he was walking off the mound wearing a Pirates uniform… I have been told.

    • They are the best fans in baseball, they all belong to baseball MENSA, so I have been told….. *eye roll*

    • and they’d be stupid to do so. It’s not like he did anything special today. If he left with a shutout in a lopsided game or something, then so be it. But otherwise, it’s Busch league.

  158. SAC Fly makes it 3-2 GOOD GUYS

  159. Yesssssssss. Back in the lead.

  160. Nice job Russ!!

  161. MARTIN first-pitch swinging for a sac fly. Guess the DP pitcher couldn’t get the sinker down far enough. Take that Matheny! glad for Kelly to be out of there.

  162. 15 more feet!

    3-2 Good Guys!

  163. Way to be agressive….

  164. Come on Clint….

  165. C’mon Tabby! I’ve always supported you.

  166. Wow…Tabby in….why not Jones???

  167. HUGE mistake to take Barmes out!!

  168. Not a fan of this PH.

    Pull Barmes?

  169. Tabata pinch hits and rolls on to the shortstop. Mercer will be our new SS……

  170. Ok Jordy…..time to step up with the D….

  171. Clint’s managing for the post-season, but he’ll get slammed if this doesn’t work out.

  172. 9 outs to go – buckle up folks, this is TIGHT…..

  173. I don’t like replacing Clint with the game so close.

  174. Double Switch explains the PH time

    • Must admit, after Martin plated a run, I would’ve preferred to let Barmes bat… don’t think they will let Watson pitch the 8th anyway, so double switch not as relevant…. then you can let Tabby lead off the 7th as a PH.

  175. Watson is the man…

  176. wow Jordy with a great play…exhale folks…exhale

  177. That’s why Mercer goes in!!!

  178. OK Jordy, good start :)

  179. Now there’s a ball Barmes never gets to

  180. Mercer makes Clint look good, so far – 8 outs to go……

  181. Nice Jordy!!!

  182. Jordy says relax everyone!

  183. Clint Hurdle….genius lol

  184. Barmes who? ;)

  185. That a boy jordy!

  186. Like I said, “glad we put Mercer in” lol

  187. I out single, time for a 6-4-3 DP……..

  188. pirates cannot lose this game today. the big “M” would, for sure, be back in the cards favor….

  189. hit to slow, 6-4 will have to do for now…… 7 outs to go.

  190. Nice job again Jordy…

  191. Almost. That was some baserunning by Robinson.

  192. Jordy looking solid in the field… and boy was he tested right off the bat. plenty of chances for Hurdle to have ‘blown it’ by taking out Barmes…. good for Jordy, the Bucs and Hurdle.

  193. wish this was the 9th inning…

  194. yahoo!

  195. When did Watson find 97???

  196. And Tony helps himself :)

  197. Comer backer to the pitcher and the inning is over – 6 outs remain.

  198. Elementary my dear Watson!!

  199. I bet that’s Playoffs or Milo or JRay wearing that jacket. :)

  200. I have more faith in Melancon than Grilli.

  201. Let’s just get ONE fun this inning. Preferably more.

  202. Anyone watching the game on something other than TBS? It sounds like the crowd is dead. Please tell me it’s just TBS’s coverage…

  203. Two bloops and a blast with a green weanie, and a cold Iron is just what the gunner would call for now. LET’s GO BUCS!!!!!!!!

  204. Be nice to add on.

  205. Come on Jordy…let’s get it started….

  206. Good news is that the heart of our order will have at least one more chance to add on some runs…

  207. Memo to TBS…. either use the Pitchtrax or get rid of it. Amazing that in 2013 no one in their intrepid producing corps can notice how much it is off. And if the announcers aren’t going to reference it, then dump it.

MLB Network the other day used it brilliantly on replays of close pitches…. and it wasn’t distracting like this graphic is all the time on TBS.

  208. Time for a Marte Partay….

  209. Dangit Neil…

  210. Damn, that was quick. Top 8 coning after these words from our sponsors……

  211. Adams inhaled that Walker grounder like a late-night pizza…on to the 8th. And Melancon has the tougher task tonight… 2-3-4 due up for the Cards….

  212. big guns up for the Cards in the 8th. Good challenge for the Shark.

  213. Shark time!!

  214. let’s go great white shark!

  215. crap!

  216. Well, that sucks……………………

  217. Carlos Beltran, ladies and gentlemen.

  218. Beltran ties it up. Melancon not up to the task.

  219. At least nobody was on base.

  220. Well the out countdown is out of the window…..

  221. Frankie was up in the zone all day – and Melancon put one on a tee for Beltran…

    • Beltran let the first pitch belt high go by for strike one.

Was not going to do the same for strike two in the same location.

  222. Come on Shark…damn…

  223. Home team gets last at bats. Thankfully.

  224. Holiday is an idiot

  225. At least we have our big guns up in the 8th….

  226. Hate Beltran.

Liked the 1st pitch. Should’ve shown the curve ball on the 2nd.

Missed locations to one of the best post season hitters of all time.

  227. an easy 3-4-1 put out

  228. I wonder if they practiced that…

  229. Nice play Neil!

  230. And Melancon helps himself

  231. my wife said pirates will have some 8th or 9th inning heroics on our own long ball…we can only hope!

  232. big defensive play by Walker and Melancon to get the first out…. especially big after Molina’s soft-serve single to right.

  233. Molina got the memo – take that slider to right……..

  234. Carlos Beltran passed Babe Ruth in postseason home runs.

    Babe freakin’ Ruth.

  235. BIG DOUBLE PLAY….. Freeze ice-cold this series so far.

  236. I am not a manager – but Beltran would not have seen a strike to hit if it were up to me..

  237. A GIDP gets him out of the inning – is it okay to breathe again?

  238. Let’s get some runs!

  239. Melancon has had way better innings than this one

  240. Battle of the bullpens.

  241. Ok, Cutch, Morneau and Byrd….time to put this game to rest….

  242. Why do you EVER allow Beltran to bat left??

  243. CUTCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  244. ZOLTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  245. Cutch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  246. Cutch!!!!! Leadoff 2 bagger. MVP!!! MVP!!!!!

  247. CUTCH CLUTCH…. bunt More-no???

  248. Ok Morny…get him to 3rd….

  249. Unreal.

  250. Cutch very UNMVP like move STUPID!!!!!!

  251. bad baserunning Cutch. I’d have bunted, for the record.

  252. WTF?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  253. Little League.

But I’m sure that was Leyvas fault. Should’ve talked to him like his LL coach did.

  255. Hope that doesn’t cost them….

  256. This isn’t Pirates and Cards in July…

  257. Up to Byrd to pick up Cutch from getting the goat of the game award.

  258. Come on Byrd Man….

  259. petey up next…

  260. This ump’s terrible strikecalling has the teams expecting everything that the catcher catches and the hitter doesn’t swing at to be called a strike. Awful.

  261. Nice job Marlon…..Ok Petey…time for another big hit….

  262. Byrd walks, Harrison to 2nd – Petey with a chance to be a HERO! He will face the LOOGY……

  263. walk to byrd negates the baserunning gaffe…. RISP with 1 out… lefty to pitch to PEDRO…. I leave Pedro in, but you can go to Gaby Sanchez if you want.

  264. Since Pedro struggles so much against lefties, do you bunt him here?

    • definitely not. 1 out already. you can pinch hit Gaby but I doubt they will. Petey has had good looks for a week or so now.

  265. Pedro vs. a tough lefty. I’ll take a bloop.

  266. COME ON BUCs, let’s score here… besides clubhouse spreads are already set up…Adams has gotten a whiff and it’s hard for him to concentrate….

  267. Tough matchup here for Petey…

  268. With it tied now it will be even sweeter when we win this one.

  269. Base running gaffes all year.

  270. PEDRO!!!!!!!! (nothing happend yet, i just wanna be first)

  271. we have waited 20 years for this kind of drama….but…my heart can’t take it. i am 20 years older…

  272. Cutch not a good move. Morneau simply should have advance him to third with a bunt. That was the play. You need one run to win the game if you believe the bull Pen can hold another lead. That may have cost them a good chance to go up one game. Basics, Clint, basics.

  273. Pedro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  274. yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

take that Matheny, your LOOGY failed

    4-3 Good Guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  277. PETEY!!!!!!!

  278. Big time play by a big time player!!!!!!!!! 4-3 GOOD guys!

  279. Petey comes thru :)

  280. Were are all of the Pedro haters now…

    He comes up HUGE!

  281. Pedro! Pedro! Pedro!

  282. the cat is out of the bag now…

  283. Molina hurt….

  284. Couple points;

Cards DONT shift on Pedro, notice where his base hit went?
Harrison pinch running for More-no allowed runner to score there, Justin would’nt have done so.

  285. Come on Russ….

  286. come on russ…a single….a single….

  287. Fire up the grill, but let’s get one more run first

  288. My favorite Martin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-3!!!!!!!!!!

  289. Thing of beauty

  290. YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5-3 Good guys!!!

  291. RUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  292. Russ is a Cardinal killer this year….

  293. I gotta tell ya, my heart was in much better shape for this in 1992. whoa nelly!

  294. still only 1 out…. be patient Gaby….and let’s put the Cards out of their misery with a 3-run jack.

  295. Come on Gaby…..

  296. And I take back all the bad things I sad about Martin…

  297. come on gaby…a single…a single….

  299. My Favorite Martin!!! (AND, the wife says, time for HIM to gut punch somebody!)

  300. Time to close this out!

If Molina comes to bat………. walk him !!!!

  301. Sanchez GIDP but the BUCS score twice making it 3 outs to go!!!!!!

  302. These guys battled back again…now…HOLD ‘EM!

  303. Dangit…..ok Grilled Cheese time!!!

  304. Not only is Chilli’s confidence back, but so is the heat….

  305. Adams up first… he loves Grilled Cheese….. keep it away from him… he’s hungry.

  306. Let’s hope Cheese has his 94 – 95 fastball with him tonight.

  307. Let’s go Cheese!

  308. whew….

  309. Damn, Adams fists one to left for a lead off single……

  310. Come on Chilli…..

  311. 2 Outs to go!!!

  312. hoover time!!!!

  313. Good catch Jordy!

  314. My wife is standing by with oxygen and nitro, 2 outs to go.

  315. Mercer, Mercer, Me!!!!

  316. phew…one down. and Adams scampers back to first. now how about a DP to end it????

  317. Dom, you still counting? :)

  318. 1 out to go,

  319. ON YOUR FEET PNC….. ON YOUR FEET………. to paraphrase a STL great, it’s about time to “GO CRAZY FOLKS, GO CRAZY!!”

  320. Hold you’re breathe on this one folks!

    But I got a good feeling…

  321. Let’s go Bucs!!

  322. RAISE IT RAISE IT…. one win away from the NLCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  323. RAISE IT!!!!!!! CPR is in progress…….

  324. HUGE WIN!!!!

  325. Raise the Jolly Hippo!!

  326. RAISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  327. RAISE THAT JOLLY HIPPO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Can Close it out tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

On the menu tomorrow…………. Cardinal Stew!!!

  328. Make that noise people~!!!

  329. RAISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  330. See u all tomorrow – Section 210 – Clinch the series with some really great
    Ground Chuck!

  331. I like our chances with ground Chuck. I don’t want to see this go back to St. Louis……..

  332. Great poise and resiliency once again by this Bucco team!!

  333. RTJR

  334. Holy cow! We had’em alllll the way!!!!!!!!

  335. Loonies – This team doesn’t have the word “quit” in them! All season long!! One more win and on the the NLCS. The Pirates DO NOT wan to go back to St. L. Finish this up here tomorrow Buccos!!!

  336. One more to go!!

  337. Pedro came up HUGE against a very tough lefty, he is my star of the game and a very good candidate for NLDS MVP…… If that exists.

  338. anyone remember losing game 1, 9-1? didn’t think so. And that includes Mike Matheny and the Cardinals. Tomorrow’s game 4 is HUGE…. and the battling Bucs keep on amazing us all.

  339. Marlon Byrd may be the best in-season acquisition ever made by this franchise….IMPACT BAT…..

  340. Catch you loonies later…awesome game :)

  341. Yeeeaaaahhh! I have always been pretty open that I’m not a really big Pedro fan, BUT also I’ve admitted that if he hits, we’ll be in this thing for a while. Go Pedro!

  342. Can’t wait to see what this crowd will do tomorrow…..will be ELECTRIC again!!

  343. Up here, Everybody! Woo-Hoo! Love for all my LONG-SUFFERING Pirates Blogger Buddies!

  344. Russell Mar-tan huge in this one.

Worth his weight in gold as an off season signing.

Perfect for the number 7 spot.

  345. OMG!!!!!!!!!!

    THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :D :D :D :D :D

  346. Far and away the best game of the series–a nail-biter much of the way. We were wearing black in my house in England, my Pirate hat atop my head, just like all you fans back home. Some really clutch hitting and pitching today. Grilli is in his goove.

  347. Glad i got home in time for the 8th inning!! Raise the Jolly Roger!!

  348. have a good night everyone…let’s go bucs!

  349. Go figure, half of San Francisco has turned into Buc’s fans. Maybe you remind of us of the Giants in 2010. Go kick some birdbutt.

  350. My brother is soooo funny…he thinks that it is silly to say “Raise the Jolly Roger” so he uses “Raise the Apple” instead….lol.

  351. ….fear the Bones….

  352. Let’s get Wacha early and often.

  353. All one can say is….WOW!!

  354. Michael Wacha better watch out.

    Let’s devour the rookie.

  355. That was fun.

  356. The Cardinals will not blink at facing an elimination game. They won’t be scared and they will come to play and win.

    Let’s get this done tomorrow!

  357. Another great playoff game and victory.

I admit that I scratched my head when Clint pinch hit for Barmes.
But then I remembered: In Clint I Trust

  358. I found a great place to park if you have to go to/by the airport on your way home. Park at the convention center, take the Ft Duquesne bypass. I’ve been able to zip all the way to Hopewell after these past two games without one bit of traffic

  359. I am exhausted… another outstanding baseball game.

  360. What Milo said above. Fun!

  361. Hey nickname girl! Long day, we just ate and I have to be on the job early am. Glad to see ya back. Night all.

    Go Bucs.

  362. Oh man what a day! What a game! Got to sit in Sec 119, thanks to a friend that came through big time. That place was electric!

  363. Nutting’s Cauldron.

    That’s all I got.

  364. A little taste of what it was like to be there:

  365. Morneau goes deep soon

Pedro, seems like every time he is interviewed, he says the right thing, says he loves the city

    Just saying, you never know

    • Every time this team was left for dead…

Just goes to show…It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, how many times you get up for the next round is what counts!!!!!
