My horoscope today…might as well be the Pirates’!

    October 06, 2013
    Pisces (2/19-3/20):
You’ll be in a great mood today, full of good humor and unlimited hope — so it’s a great day to pick an obstacle and fly right over it! You are feeling confident and energized enough to go the distance, no matter how far it is. Pick your battle early in the day, and by tonight you should have a very satisfying solution all worked out. This accomplishment, although it might not seem huge to some people, will make you feel warm and fuzzy all over — and ready for the next success.

    Posting for Playoffs

    Playoffs by 2012 says:

    October 6, 2013 at 11:51 am

Mrs. Playoffs and I are headed over to the North Shore in a few minutes to grab some lunch and then take in Game 3. I need a helper to post today’s line for me. Thank you in advance.

The Window will continue throughout the duration of the playoffs.
September and October will be combined and all winners will be announced at the conclusion of the playoffs.

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Pick ‘Em Line
What Will Francisco Liriano Get in Today’s Game?
    Win (EVEN ODDS)
    Loss (DOUBLE ODDS)
    No Decision (EVEN ODDS)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

  4. Lad9 says:

Is there any doubt! 100 on the win please. Thank you. Go Buccos!

  5. Karen22 says:

100 – WIN!! I’m not betting against them throughout!

  6. Eric Bowser says:

Power of Bowser (son and I – lol) will be in section 139 for today’s game… let’s look for more Bowser Blasts at PNC Park.

    Enjoy the game!

    Beat Em Bucs

Look for me at the game, I’ll be wearing black ;-)

  8. Daquido_Bazzini says:

One has to keep in mind that Joe Kelly has been a pain in the “you know where” as this season has unfolded.
The Pirates have been shutout the vast majority of innings that he has pitched against them.
The crowd needs to (and I believe will) get on him early and STAY on him.
This guy is trying to make a name for himself, and today is the day he wants to assure himself of that goal.

  9. KenKopp says:

Hey DK. Sorry about the “No cheering in the press box” question a few days ago. I would never intentionally insult you. I can’t grasp how you could hold back, but I’m a fan and you are very much the professional. Love your work and look forward to it each and every day. I guess if your parents still question it you may be able to understand my confusion. I get it now and apologize if you took it as an insult.

Me, I’m no where near a press box at the moment, so GO BUCS!

DK: It’s not even an issue, Ken. Thanks.

  10. Jason81 says:

    100 on the WIN, please!

Son #1 and I will be in section 333, Row B, seats 20-21 if anyone is nearby. Still have some time before departure but can’t wait! Go Buccos!

  16. Lad 9 says:

Sending good vibes out to our blog Muppet. Hope you are doing OK Brandie!

  17. kr70 says:

100 on the win …and thanks

  18. kr70 says:

can we even hope that the crowd will be louder than tuesday?

  19. Karen22 says:

You guys bring home a win and ROCK the place!!

  20. Thundercrack says:

I’ll be standing…inside PNC Park today.

    Enjoy the game!

  21. JohninOshkosh says:

I’ll be in my living room but with you all in spirit! Have fun!

  22. Brandie says:

Have a great time today. Always one of my faves!

  23. Brandie says:

    Revvie and Wisconsin’s Finest.

  24. Keith says:

Easiest wager of the year! 100 for the WIN.

  25. Great piece by Jayson Stark on Frankie from a couple days ago on the four-letter.

Someone may have already mentioned it. Sorry if you have. I believe he and DK are buds.

  26. Arriba Wilver says:

One of the differences between today and the WC is that the Cards will be ready for it. No one was ready for Tuesday’s crowd reaction. Not to say it won’t be loud—it will.

  27. Keith says:

I haven’t heard it written anywhere that the Pirates will be wearing black jerseys throughout the playoffs, but can we assume this is true?

  28. Thundercrack says:

I’m not sure it can be.

One difference is that this game is 4:30 on a Sunday and the other one was 8pm on a Tuesday.

  29. Arriba Wilver says:

    Difference which way, TC?

  30. Arriba Wilver says:

I think we can, so long as it isn’t against MLB rules, if they have any, for visiting and home teams, for example.

  31. Lad 9 says:

BRRRANNNNDDDDIEEEEEE! :). Same here. Great to see you. :)

  32. Keith says:

I think that’s the beauty of the “alternate” jersey; teams can decide when and how to use them. It seems teams sort of have to have home whites and road grays/other colors, but alternates (a la Cubs blue and Royals lt. blue) can be used whenever. Kind of cool.

  33. Todd says:

Don’t you think Coach Hurdle is putting himself and the team in a bad spot by announcing Morton as the game 4 starter? Lets say for instance Liriano wins today and Morton loses tomorrow. His choices will be Burnett or Cole. Burnetts ERA in Saint Louis is hovering around 13.5 runs per 9 since 2012. At Home against the Cards its 1.3. In order to choose Cole Hurdle will have to squash, Smash and totally dismantle the ego of AJ Burnett, when he chooses to skip him. Why would you not give AJ the game at PNC?

  34. Todd says:

BTW – correct me if im wrong but didnt Morton not look so good in Cincy during his last start. kind of danced through the rain drops while walking 5. Lasted 4-1/3 innings? Didnt ground Chuck get turned into Ground beef when he last faced the Cardinals. Something like 5 runs in an inning and two thirds….At PNC

  35. Rbilak says:

    1. Factor of crowd today, Cards seem to think Kelly will be fine, difference is St a Louis crowd quiet. He is coming into a hockey game environment. He does not have Cole’s pedigree.

    2. Holliday has been awful at PNC in left, crowd wil be on him early and all game Jay has taken some unusual routes even in St Louis. He is no Jim Edmonds. Freeze has froze at third on several plays.

    3. Hopefully fans near stands will understand opposing players should not venture into out park. All for fairness, but when ball is in stands, they should stand no chance, that is home field advantage.

    4. Morneau gonna break out with HR today.

    5. Biggest development game 2 was Grilli hitting 95. Big difference between 92. We can make games 7 inning games.

Can’t wait. No Steeler game but Sunday saved by Bucs. I feel we win and do not go back to St Louis for a game 5.

  36. Arriba Wilver says:

  37. Barb says:

Hi Brandie. I have missed you lovely lady. Everything all well with you?

  38. BDHumbert says:

    100 on the win!

  39. Naje says:

There is no other choice to start game 4 other than Morton. No one else is able to start that game.

Have no idea what you are asking.

  40. Pucknutz says:

Well, I am thinkin this crowd will have had more time to get lubricated than they did Tuesday. Prolly some serious tailgateing going on as we speak soo…….

  41. BDHumbert says:

Sitting around watching the Red Zone Channel and waiting for the game to start…

Not sure why it popped into my head – but was wondering what the impact on revenues was of a home playoff game for the bucs – has anybody seen anything on this?

  42. Irish says:

    50 on another Win, please.
    Big Game! Enjoy it, Playoffs!
    Let’s Go Bucs!

  43. JRay3 says:

Standing next to the window tailgating with him here at PNC and he reminded me to get my wager in.

    100 on WIN

    Go Bucs!

  44. BDHumbert says:

It would be interesting to know if AJ ever pitched on 3 days rest – I doubt it…

But it would be tempting if they won today to try and close out the series perhaps having AJ in the bullpen to swoop in if Morton shows ANY sign of trouble…

Morton has pitched well enough to earn a start IMHO…

  45. Jandy says:

    I like it!

  46. ryan says:

anyone know of a site to stream the radio broadcast for free?

  47. steelkings says:

He only threw 72 pitches. He was probably ready to pitch yesterday.

  48. Jandy says:

100 units on the WIN! Go Bucs!

  49. KenKopp says:

    True story Lunnies.

I’m getting my morning java and I look out the window and there is a Cardinal in the bird bath. I think this can’t be a good omen, and I consider going out and chasing him. Then a big Black Bird flies in and chases him out. The Card sits in the shrubbery waiting for Blackie to leave and here comes another Black Bird, and another and another and there are probably 15 of ‘em in the bushes. The Cardinal flies off and I’m thinking The Black Birds just said “Not today Cardinal, not in this bird bath.” OK that’s a better omen. My wife walks in and I guess I had some kind of look on my face and she says “Whats going on?” I just tell her “YOU wouldn’t believe me if I told you.” I swear that happened just this morning.

    Go Bucs!

  50. scapper says:

No. Nothing can surpass Tuesday because the noise and emotion was so authentic. That’s not to say that today’s crowd might not break the noise-meter at times, but Tuesday was a unique and very special day in the history of Pittsburgh sports. Future crowds (including today) will be passionate and loud and emotional, but there were too many factors that combined to make Tuesday unmatchable. There was no, “Let’s see how loud we can get” thing. That was just so…real.

That being said, tonight’s crowd WILL be insane if the Bucs get a lead or stay tied.

  51. Wild Bill says:

    Crank it up, PNC People!

  52. Arriba Wilver says:

100 NLCS tickets o the WIN, please.

    Thanks, Lad, for reporting.

  53. The Justice Avenger says:

Happy Sunday Afternoon Everyone! PLAY BALL!

  54. Arriba Wilver says:

    Rushing. “On” and “reposting.”

  55. Steelag70 says:

    LET’S GO BUCS!!!

  56. The Justice Avenger says:

At this point, Keith, I’d say the Pirates feel this black jersey is their statement uniform.

  57. Dom says:

    Strike out!!!

  58. Barb says:

  59. Steelag70 says:

    Just like Tues night baby!!

  60. The Justice Avenger says:

Seems a bit quieter than Tuesday night. Come on folks…make some noise!

  61. theplanisworking says:

    BRANDIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Steelag70 says:

  63. Steelag70 says:

    Frankie is on again….

  64. theplanisworking says:

    Brandie, hope you are ok.

Check in with us once in a while………..

  65. The Justice Avenger says:

    real nice play

  66. The Justice Avenger says:

    agree steel

  67. Barb says:

    Beautiful Francisco Beautiful!

  68. Steelag70 says:

    Great start Frankie!!

  69. The Justice Avenger says:

Love that story, Ken…thanks for sharing!

  70. Steelag70 says:

Listening to it on ESPN radio….Sutcliffe can’t believe that Liriano in Oct is throwing it at 94 mph…but them admits that the fact he didn’t start tthe season umtil May, should be an advantage for Frankie…not worn down with innings…

  71. Patrick(ri) says:

The crowd should start dead silent. Wait for a reason.

  72. Barb says:

Did Kelly just smirk that he struck out Neil?

  73. Steelag70 says:

    Probably….he’s cocky…

  74. Barb says:

We need to knock it out of him.

  75. Arriba Wilver says:

I like the UMp when Frankie’s pitching, but he really sucks when Kelly is. ;-)

To be honest, though, he’s so off it should be embarrassing to MLB.

  76. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Morny….

  77. Brandie says:

    Listening right now!

  78. Steelag70 says:

Work the counts…make Kelly throw pitches….

  79. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Crap game just started. I’ll try anyhow.

    100 on the W.

  80. Steelag70 says:

  81. Arriba Wilver says:

No. I went back and looked. He showed his teeth, but it looked more like an expression of relief. Not mirth.

  82. Barb says:

Woo Hoo that’s the way to do it. The Birdman has arrived.

  83. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Gotta take advantage.

    Let’s go Byrd

  84. theplanisworking says:

    I hope you are ok.
And , I speak for many……….. glad to have you here !!! :D

  85. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  86. Barb says:

And I mean arrived. Way to go Marlon.

  87. Steelag70 says:

    THE BYRD MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  88. theplanisworking says:

    BYRD AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 Good Guys !!!

  89. Steelag70 says:

Crowd will REALLY take off now…

  90. Patrick(ri) says:

Leftys are going to need longer bats, today.

  91. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Sorry I’m late to the party…

My pick-to-click today (outside of what Byrd just did) is Pedro.

Not saying he’ll go yard today, but I think he’s gonna mash.

Liriano is going to shut the Cards down. I predict 8 strong.

  92. Steelag70 says:

    Great start Buccos!!

  93. Barb says:

Now that is the proper way to begin a game. Love, Love, LOVE IT.

  94. Steelag70 says:

Great AB by Morneau that inning…

  95. theplanisworking says:

    2 quick things…………..

    1) Marlon Byrd might ne one of the best trade deadline acquisitions in Pirate history.
    2) This ump might start calling balls near the dugout strikes. Yikes.

  96. theplanisworking says:

  97. KenKopp says:

    Weird strike zone for sure.

  98. The Justice Avenger says:

quick inning, frankie…let’s get kelly back out there on the mound.

  99. cmat0829 says:

Have to think that the Pitchtrax graphic MUST be off… otherwise, the ump is calling 6inches outside strikes on the Pirates hitters…and just called a pitch on the outside corner a ball to Molina, of all batters….

  100. The Justice Avenger says:

  101. Steelag70 says:

ESPN radio broadcast was saying something about that…

  102. Steelag70 says:

    This ump is horrible…

  103. Steelag70 says:

  104. Patrick(ri) says:

Long as he stays consistent, advantage Liriano, with 2 runs.

  105. Steelag70 says:

    Frankie is da man!!

  106. Arriba Wilver says:

  107. Tom P. says:

Liriano is through 2 innings on 30 pitches, Kelly threw 29 in the first alone.

  108. Steelag70 says:

Getting tired of this Kelly guy….we need to get him out of there…

  109. OldSoldier21 says:

So what’s happening Bucco fans? Did I miss anything? ;)

  110. OldSoldier21 says:

    Good EYE Papa Francisco

  111. Barb says:

    Not much really. :)

  112. Arriba Wilver says:

Not sure why the Bucs were giving the Ump some flak during Martin’s at bat. The strikes he called were well within the strike zone. Unless that pitch track thing IS way off.

  113. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Anyone catch Dick Stockton say that Kelly had too much swag to think the Keeeeellllyyy, Keeeeellllyyy would affect him?

    What a tool.

He’s as hip as an ankle.

My 14 year old corrected him, said he used it wrong.

  114. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Anyone notice that this ump sucks?

    Really. Bad.

  115. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Starling…geeezzzzz

  116. Arriba Wilver says:

I don’t think he saw it.

  117. Arriba Wilver says:

    Everybody noticed. ;-)

  118. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Another thing.

    Is it MORE-no

seems every announcer pronounced it differently.

  119. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    At all.

  120. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Frankie….

  121. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Just checking.

  122. The Justice Avenger says:

  123. Steelag70 says:

    Come on guys! Geeezzz….

  124. Arriba Wilver says:

During the Thursday game the announcers said Morneau preferred MORE-no.

  125. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Beltran is the ONE guy in the lineup that scares me.

I know what they all do as a team with RISP, this guy is scary good.

  126. Steelag70 says:

I swear the Cards will not swing at stuff in the dirt…

  127. OldSoldier21 says:

Carlos Beltran draws a walk loading the bases. :(

  128. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Frankie!!

  129. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I would assume that to be correct.

  130. OldSoldier21 says:

  131. Drew71 says:

Sitting on the patio of World of Beer, watching the game and enjoying a Red Thunder by Victory Brewing Company (Pennsylvania). It is a Baltic Porter, aged in Wente Vineyards red wine barrels, 8.5% ABV.

Just letting you all know that I’m doing MY part for a Victory.

  132. Patrick(ri) says:

Tough hitter – nice. I actually wanted him to have to put it in the air!

  133. Steelag70 says:

    The Byrd Man!!!

  134. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Let’s see if they can hold off on that. Frankie needs to stay there.

  135. Barb says:

Oh Francisco my heart can’t take it. Oh well I have a Birthday party to go to so I will be signing off now. Catch you on the flip side.

  136. Arriba Wilver says:

    Double whew.

  137. The Justice Avenger says:

my wife was running to the kitchen and asked if i wanted anything. my reply was yes…the bottom of the 9th inning…right now…

  138. Drew71 says:

And by the way. This is the best the Steelers have looked all season.

  139. The Justice Avenger says:

happy birthday to whomever and have fun, barb.

  140. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Its not weird if it works.

Sounds good. Sierra Nevada here…..summer ale.

  141. OldSoldier21 says:

Always giving Drew, I appreciate the sacrifices you are making for the Bucs. ;)

  142. Drew71 says:

Somebody needs to talk to Barb about her priorities.

  143. The Justice Avenger says:

    Great, Drew!!

  144. Arriba Wilver says:

That’s me, too. Once we get a lead, I can’t wait to get it over.

  145. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Ha. A buddy of mine sent me a picture of a Steelers box score.

    Bye Week 35
    Steelers 0.

Pretty funny, but he’s a Lions fan.

  146. The Justice Avenger says:

this is going to be a game, arriba…tight game all afternoon i have a feeling.

  147. The Justice Avenger says:

  148. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Great answer

  149. Steelag70 says:

  150. The Justice Avenger says:

  151. Steelag70 says:

Don’t like the feel of this game right now…

  152. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  153. Arriba Wilver says:

  154. Patrick(ri) says:

Looks like Morneau is getting in a groove, though.

  155. The Justice Avenger says:

i am a nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs….

  156. The Justice Avenger says:

frankie is fighting cold symptoms stockton says

  157. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  158. tcb says:

I don’t want the bottom. Top of 9th will do.

  159. Steelag70 says:

Frankie getting hit hard a bit here….

  160. The Justice Avenger says:

    agree with you, patrick…

  161. Arriba Wilver says:

    Good point,

  162. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Barmes is smooth

  163. Patrick(ri) says:

He just has a little Clemente in him. Feel bad, go 4 for 4′ etc.

  164. OldSoldier21 says:

    Nice 1,2,3 for Frankie, I like that……

  165. Steelag70 says:

    Nice D Barmes….

  166. tcb says:

4 down. 5 to go. Yes, I am counting innings.

  167. The Justice Avenger says:

normally, ryan…i love close pitching games…but would just prefer a 6 run lead right now…

  168. The Justice Avenger says:

  169. tcb says:

Be nice to add on. Don’t think 2 will be enough today.

  170. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Pedro….

  171. Steelag70 says:

    I hate this Kelly kid…

  172. The Justice Avenger says:

the crowd is too quiet for me….

  173. OldSoldier21 says:

Too many whiffs for my liking. Need some more runs, fellas……

  174. tcb says:

    He is impressive.

  175. Steelag70 says:

  176. The Justice Avenger says:

    he is pitching well.

  177. The Justice Avenger says:

kelly is kind of, sort of doing what cole did on friday in st. louis…

  178. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Definitely. I want 3 more runs and I’m comfortable. Honestly, I’m comfortable right now with Frankie dealing.

  179. OldSoldier21 says:

Liriano needs to start throwing strikes, NOW! Pitcher has a chance to put two men in scoring position……

  180. Steelag70 says:

Come on Frankie…let’s get back on track…

  181. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Not good. Obvious bunt situation now.

    Get the out.

Carpenter is a lefty, get a K on him. Could still get out of it.

  182. Arriba Wilver says:

Now I’m getting worried. Bottom of the order, two on, no outs.

  183. Steelag70 says:

    Not dealing like this…

  184. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Go for the K on Kelly now.

  185. tcb says:

    Very worried.

  186. JohninOshkosh says:

    Nice story on TBS broadcast.

It seems several players on both teams went to see the Pens last night (I didn’t see the game so I’m not sure if that was mentioned). Also, Redbird manager Mike Matheny got to see his daughter play collegiate hockey up in Erie. She plays forward for The Ohio State University.

  187. OldSoldier21 says:

Pitching from behind in the count is a poor strategy.

  188. JohninOshkosh says:

Frankie has to grind this inning out. Could be a turning point.

  189. Steelag70 says:

    Layne is horrible…

  190. Drew71 says:

No problem. I just ordered my third Victory Thunder.

    (Not kidding with that name)

    You all owe me.

  191. Steelag70 says:

  192. OldSoldier21 says:

Gets a K, but the double steal is good. Beltran is at the plate. I say walk him……

  193. Drew71 says:

PS. That was the third out

  194. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    No kidding

  195. JohninOshkosh says:

    Agree-very dangerous professional hitter.

  196. Steelag70 says:

    COME ON FRANKIE…..geezzzzzz

  197. The Justice Avenger says:

    righto! it really was drew…

  198. Steelag70 says:

    Yep…we got hosed….

  199. cmat0829 says:

Is it me or did it appear Pedro had the tag on Jay before his foot hit the bag? Big call now, as Beltran ties it with a single

  200. OldSoldier21 says:

Beltran drives in 2 – brand new ballgame

  201. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  202. The Justice Avenger says:

  203. Steelag70 says:

  204. JohninOshkosh says:

Dang it. Beltran is a great hitter and they let him beat us.

  205. Drew71 says:

Now it’s an interesting game, huh?

  206. OldSoldier21 says:

Told them to walk him – but I guess this makes it more exciting.

  207. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Should’ve walked Beltran to load the bases on that situation.

  208. Steelag70 says:

    Not Frankie’s day….

  209. JohninOshkosh says:

See above, before he got the hit. :)

  210. Steelag70 says:

Bats have to solve Kelly again…

  211. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I think the ball beat him there, Pedro missed the tag and Jay slide on by.

  212. Arriba Wilver says:

Looked to me like that, too, but the angle of the slo-mo wasn’t ideal.

  213. cmat0829 says:

I know it’s hindsight at this point, but I don’t like putting another runner on with Holliday coming up. It isn’t like Adams was next….and I worry about a double scoring 3 or a HR scoring 4…can’t afford to give up that extra run…..

  214. diehard says:

Seemed pretty clear, yes he tagged him. Should have kept the glove close as Jay jumped off the bag as well.

  215. JohninOshkosh says:

I did not (don’t) want to see Vin Mazzaro today.

  216. Drew71 says:

Bud Selig musta gotten to the third base umpire.

    Only possible explanation.

  217. cmat0829 says:

hmmm i saw the glove clearly tag Jay in the foot.. you say Pedro missed the tag completely??

  218. JohninOshkosh says:

Most definitely a tough call. Arguments for both thoughts, for sure.

  219. Arriba Wilver says:

Pedro definitely made the tag. Problem was he didn’t keep the tag on because Jay went off the bag after.

  220. diehard says:

These are the playoffs – How did this umpire crew get chosen? Was everyone else busy?

  221. Steelag70 says:

Looks like Frankie will stay in there…

  222. Steelag70 says:

    Nice hit Barmes…get it started….

  223. OldSoldier21 says:

You cant stop Barmes, you can only hope to contain him……

  224. Steelag70 says:

Both teams are pissed with Layne…

  225. cmat0829 says:

it’s time for a Marte partay…who’s with me????

  226. Steelag70 says:

    Nice job Frankie!

  227. JohninOshkosh says:

Good time for the Buccos to remind everyone that Joe Kelly is not Bob Gibson. (At least, I don’t think he is).

  228. Arriba Wilver says:

+1 for the home plate ump. Pedro’s could have gone either way, no matter how good the ump.

  229. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Starling…geeezzzz

  230. Jandy says:

  231. DJ says:

He was out. Toe wasn’t in until after the tag.

Bigger question is why was Pedro looking over to second rather than holding the tag on the runner. Then there would have been no doubt.

  232. OldSoldier21 says:

Marte works the count full after on 0-2 count and pops up to the first baseman. Now would be a good time for PRNW to get his first hit……

  233. cmat0829 says:

Damn, Marte had the fastball to hit and couldn’t do so. Come on, Neil, would be big to answer back

  234. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Neil…you are due….

  235. Rob says:

Is it an understatement to say it would be nice for Walker to get out of this slump?

  236. The Justice Avenger says:

that is an insult to gibson, john…BUT…for one day…kelly looks great…

  237. DJ says:

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but the PitchTrax seems off by at least 6 inches. Whoever calibrated it before the game must have been drunk.

  238. JohninOshkosh says:

  239. Steelag70 says:

    Neil is scuffling right now…

  240. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    No. Not completely missed.

  241. Jandy says:

    and probably still is…

  242. The Justice Avenger says:

    not gonna happen this inning…

  243. Steelag70 says:

  244. cmat0829 says:

Based on the first strike call to Neil, I’d say PitchTrax is off by about 8 inches to the right (that pitch maybe was on inside corner to NW and PT had it down the middle)….. so adjust accordingly.

  245. Drew71 says:

    Freaking Selig.

  246. theplanisworking says:

Cant afford to leave runners on…………… Kelly is looking good out there.
At least next inning we have the heart of the order up.

  247. Jandy says:

made the tag. Should have been out. Grrrr!

  248. DJ says:

    . . . and drunker, if that’s even a word.

  249. diehard says:

Getting an accurate strike zone from the home plate ump would help. He’s been awful (maybe slightly more awful for us – but awful all around for sure)

  250. OldSoldier21 says:

Oh well, we must be using the “let’s bore the fans to death” strategy to keep them in the game…. It is a Sunday, there might be a noise ordinance….

  251. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Because usually, and what Pedro did, was a sweep tag. That type of tag doesn’t allow you to keep the tag on him.

He was looking at 2nd for a possible backdoor play. Then he went to argue with the ump.

  252. DJ says:

Ha! Just commented on this up above. I was thinking 6″ but you may be right.

  253. Jandy says:

Hi Planimal, I see Brandecita made an appearance earlier.

  254. diehard says:

+1 puts him at what, -42 for the game?

  255. theplanisworking says:

    Hi Jandimal.

Yes, we did have a Muppet sighting.

Now we need an offense sighting.

  256. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Not scarred of Holiday. I’d take my chances with him over Beltran.

  257. Jandy says:

Frankie still in. Don’t know if that’s a good idea…

  258. Steelag70 says:

The cards are just not offering at those offspeed pitches…

  259. cmat0829 says:

Typically, umps give benefit to the defensive team when throw beats the runner and there is no extraordinary slide to elude it…. Jay pretty much went right into the base and to me the tag was clearly there.

That said, Pedro needs to work on tags at 3rd…he often times is out of position (lunges toward the throw instead of letting the ball get to him)… he has missed a slew of these over the past 2 years or so.

  260. Arriba Wilver says:

You mean the last 4 games? He hit 7 homers in September.

  261. JohninOshkosh says:

Man this game is awesome. Flying by except for the extra long commercial breaks. Pitching, guys scuffling, close calls, nail biting every minute of the way. This is what I hoped for back on opening day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, every day this season.

Can’t complain (but I will), but this is great.

  262. OldSoldier21 says:

He is having trouble finding the plate – way too many hitters counts……

  263. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Yea I thought the same.

  264. cmat0829 says:

Frankie not his sharpest, he’s battling… glad to see bullpen warming up and a short leash.

  265. Jandy says:

    it is now ;)

  266. cmat0829 says:

Score one for the shift, MATT ADAMS goes hungry.

  267. OldSoldier21 says:

Must be Divine intervention, he gets out of the inning unscathed.

  268. Jandy says:

Put out an APB Hipposter :)

  269. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Not this inning.

    Very effective

  270. Steelag70 says:

    Nice bounce back inning Frankie…

  271. Jandy says:

yeah, so what happened in the dougout? Weird

  272. DJ says:

What prevents the third baseman from keeping the glove on the foot or leg there?

And if the runner is coming in hot because of a hook slide and not a direct path to the base, why not keep the glove on the runner knowing his momentum will be carrying him by the bag?

  273. Jandy says:

    Praise the Lord!

  274. OldSoldier21 says:

I preferred Friday’s version of a nail biting game. This is torture…… But I love it!

  275. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s what aces do. Even scuffling-find a way to keep the boys in the game.

  276. Jandy says:

OshKosh, you are right, but I’d still love to see a bit more offense from our boys :)

  277. theplanisworking says:

    ………… and pass the ammunition……….

  278. DJ says:

I agree with you on Pedro because I have seen it as well.

  279. OldSoldier21 says:

LOL, thank you Saint Theresa! ;)

  280. JohninOshkosh says:

:) Yes. Entire playoffs have been a treat, a gift.

  281. theplanisworking says:

    Is Frankie done today?

  282. Arriba Wilver says:

My perspective was that Jay’s foot made it to the plane of the bag before Pedro tagged him, but it wasn’t clear from the angle (from the home plate side of the bag) whether Jay touched the outfield side of the bag before Pedro got him. It didn’t look like Jay hit the Second Base side of the bag before Pedro tagged him. Clear? ;-)

  283. Steelag70 says:

    Let’s go Bucs…get some runs…

  284. Jandy says:

    Get it started Cutch!

  285. JohninOshkosh says:

    +You betcha.

  286. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Been waiting on you Cmat with the Fatt Adams jokes…

  287. Arriba Wilver says:

  288. Jandy says:

  289. JohninOshkosh says:

Looks like it. Did his job in top of sixth.

  290. OldSoldier21 says:

Kelly can’t find the plate with Cutch in the box. Cutch nearly gets hit by ball four….. Lead off man on.

  291. Steelag70 says:

    Watson warming up….

  292. Jandy says:

    Still prayin here

  293. Steelag70 says:

    Look out Cutch!

  294. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  295. cmat0829 says:

    have to pick my spots…

  296. OldSoldier21 says:

One down, weak fly to left by More-no

  297. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Absolutely did

  298. diehard says:

Does it seem that TBS’s angle to home plate if farther toward left field than Root uses? Even if it isn’t, why wouldn’t you go for the dead center camera?

  299. Steelag70 says:

    Dangit Morneau…

  300. Jandy says:

Watson I can handle…Mazzaro not so much

  301. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s sobering. One of these clubs faces a must win tomorrow.

  302. cmat0829 says:

is it me, or did kelly pitch that up and because Cutch swung big-time hard at the 3-0 pitch? would be stupid but Kelly’s emotions may have dictated that

  303. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Like Adams at a buffet….

  304. OldSoldier21 says:

BYRD DOUBLES TO LEFT – 2 RISP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  305. Jandy says:

  306. theplanisworking says:

    Great pickup!

  307. cmat0829 says:

BYRD IS THE WORD……………………. double thanks to Matt Holliday playing um, defense, in left field

  308. Steelag70 says:

    The Byrd Man!!!!!!

  309. DJ says:

Because Root is pissed it was not allowed to purchase the rights to the game from MLB and made even more money on this game than the lousy deal Frank C negotiated.

    Or something like that.

  310. OldSoldier21 says:

The crowd is into it now, hopefully the crew will respond!!!!

  311. Steelag70 says:

Marlon has tyo make up fpor some lost years of post season play… ;)

  312. JohninOshkosh says:

    Byrd is the word.

Now, it’s time to bite the Cardinals with a little strategic RISPing of their own!

  313. Jandy says:

    stranger things have happened…

  314. cmat0829 says:

Holliday played that ball like it was a hand grenade… Is it possible Matt Adams plays the best defense on the team (other than Molina)? Fat jokes aside, the big guy is pretty decent.

  315. theplanisworking says:

What would a GS do to that crowd? :D

  316. OldSoldier21 says:

Petey get the IBB, My favorite Martin just has to make them PAY!

  317. Steelag70 says:

Ok Russ….up to you know….you have been a cardinal killer…

  318. Jandy says:

Barmes is due for two hits in one game :)

  319. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Dont like it, but smart move on Cards part.

Doesn’t mean Martin doesn’t make them pay.

  320. JohninOshkosh says:

I like Martin in this situation. He’s done it for us all year.

  321. Jandy says:

No wait, Russ is gonna nail one…

  322. theplanisworking says:

    he did his job.
Now, its up to the pen.

  323. cmat0829 says:

Cards walk Pedro to get to the clutch-hitting Russell Martin. And Kelly is no-more. MAY-NESS…MAY-NESS….MAY-NESS…..

  324. Jandy says:

Kelly is out…and that’s my cue to let the dog out…brb

  325. OldSoldier21 says:

Fand-e-monium? Kelly get’s all the hot water he wants as gets the hook……

  326. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Needs to put something in play…

  327. JohninOshkosh says:

Busch Stadium Cardinal fans would have cheered Kelly if he was walking off the mound wearing a Pirates uniform… I have been told.

  328. theplanisworking says:

  329. OldSoldier21 says:

SAC Fly makes it 3-2 GOOD GUYS

  330. JohninOshkosh says:

    Yesssssssss. Back in the lead.

  331. Steelag70 says:

    Nice job Russ!!

  332. cmat0829 says:

MARTIN first-pitch swinging for a sac fly. Guess the DP pitcher couldn’t get the sinker down far enough. Take that Matheny! glad for Kelly to be out of there.

  333. theplanisworking says:

    15 more feet!

    3-2 Good Guys!

  334. Steelag70 says:

    Way to be agressive….

  335. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Clint….

  336. OldSoldier21 says:

They are the best fans in baseball, they all belong to baseball MENSA, so I have been told….. *eye roll*

  337. JohninOshkosh says:

C’mon Tabby! I’ve always supported you.

  338. Steelag70 says:

    Wow…Tabby in….why not Jones???

  339. Dom says:

  340. cmat0829 says:

and they’d be stupid to do so. It’s not like he did anything special today. If he left with a shutout in a lopsided game or something, then so be it. But otherwise, it’s Busch league.

  341. Matt hoffman says:

HUGE mistake to take Barmes out!!

  342. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Not a fan of this PH.

    Pull Barmes?

  343. Jandy says:

  344. OldSoldier21 says:

Tabata pinch hits and rolls on to the shortstop. Mercer will be our new SS……

  345. Steelag70 says:

Ok Jordy…..time to step up with the D….

  346. JohninOshkosh says:

  347. DJ says:

Agreed. Maybe a chance for a couple more late game runs now.

  348. theplanisworking says:

    …………..holds back water………..

  349. Jandy says:

I hope this doesn’t come back to bite them in the butt…

  350. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Agree with that

  351. Arriba Wilver says:

Clint’s managing for the post-season, but he’ll get slammed if this doesn’t work out.

  352. OldSoldier21 says:

9 outs to go – buckle up folks, this is TIGHT…..

  353. Dom says:

I don’t like replacing Clint with the game so close.

  354. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Double Switch explains the PH time

  355. Steelag70 says:

    Watson is the man…

  356. cmat0829 says:

    wow Jordy with a great play…exhale folks…exhale

  357. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    That’s why Mercer goes in!!!

  358. Jandy says:

    OK Jordy, good start :)

  359. Bob Hasis says:

Now there’s a ball Barmes never gets to

  360. OldSoldier21 says:

Mercer makes Clint look good, so far – 8 outs to go……

  361. Steelag70 says:

    Nice Jordy!!!

  362. irishjim says:

    Jordy says relax everyone!

  363. JohninOshkosh says:

    Clint Hurdle….genius lol

  364. theplanisworking says:

    Barmes who? ;)

  365. OldSoldier21 says:

Hi, Mr. Hasis, how about them Bucs?

  366. Dom says:

    That a boy jordy!

  367. Jandy says:

  368. Matt hoffman says:

Like I said, “glad we put Mercer in” lol

  369. The Justice Avenger says:

    agree, too…

  370. Dom says:

    Clint…oh. gotta ;)

  371. Steelag70 says:

  372. cmat0829 says:

Must admit, after Martin plated a run, I would’ve preferred to let Barmes bat… don’t think they will let Watson pitch the 8th anyway, so double switch not as relevant…. then you can let Tabby lead off the 7th as a PH.

  373. OldSoldier21 says:

    I out single, time for a 6-4-3 DP……..

  374. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Pretty hard to compare that. Since ya know, he’s not in there.

  375. theplanisworking says:

    Good one, Dom…….

  376. The Justice Avenger says:

pirates cannot lose this game today. the big “M” would, for sure, be back in the cards favor….

  377. OldSoldier21 says:

hit to slow, 6-4 will have to do for now…… 7 outs to go.

  378. Steelag70 says:

    Nice job again Jordy…

  379. Dom says:

Almost. That was some baserunning by Robinson.

  380. cmat0829 says:

Jordy looking solid in the field… and boy was he tested right off the bat. plenty of chances for Hurdle to have ‘blown it’ by taking out Barmes…. good for Jordy, the Bucs and Hurdle.

  381. The Justice Avenger says:

wish this was the 9th inning…

  382. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Agree on all parts….

It may come down to nothing.

  383. DJ says:

I agree with you AW on the “plane of the bag” aspect. But normally, if the cleat is hitting the bag at all, you would see the bag slightly give or the edge pop up just a tad. I didn’t see any cloth move in super slow-mo.

So my question now is why the heck didn’t the ump see in real time what I saw (and, in this case, didn’t see) in super slow-mo? Ha!

  384. The Justice Avenger says:

  385. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    When did Watson find 97???

  386. Jandy says:

    And Tony helps himself :)

  387. OldSoldier21 says:

Comer backer to the pitcher and the inning is over – 6 outs remain.

  388. theplanisworking says:

    And miss the 2nd guessing?

    Rookie……………. ;)

  389. Steelag70 says:

    Elementary my dear Watson!!

  390. Jandy says:

Playoffs time….these guys are really digging deep :)

  391. Steelag70 says:

Watson is a stud….he could be a closer candidate in the future…

  392. JohninOshkosh says:

I bet that’s Playoffs or Milo or JRay wearing that jacket. :)

  393. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

That’s a good thing. Get him in the game and get the test over with.

  394. OldSoldier21 says:

You know what they say about those who help themselves. ;)

  395. Bob Hasis says:

    I love them so far

  396. Jandy says:

The good Lord helps them too :)

  397. tcb says:

I have more faith in Melancon than Grilli.

  398. Dom says:

Let’s just get ONE fun this inning. Preferably more.

  399. Jandy says:

Hey hey, TJA! Good to see ya :)

  400. Bob Hasis says:

Haven’t you seen enough of Barmes to realize he has no range?

  401. Anyone watching the game on something other than TBS? It sounds like the crowd is dead. Please tell me it’s just TBS’s coverage…

  402. JohninOshkosh says:

BTW, the playoffs certainly bring out a lot more babes in the stands-so I’ve noticed.

    Sorry, Jandy, I’m a dude. :)

  403. OldSoldier21 says:

Two bloops and a blast with a green weanie, and a cold Iron is just what the gunner would call for now. LET’s GO BUCS!!!!!!!!

  404. Steelag70 says:

Agreed Dom…..need to add on some runs here….top of the order coming up….

  405. tcb says:

    Be nice to add on.

  406. Steelag70 says:

Come on Jordy…let’s get it started….

  407. Jandy says:

I have faith in both of them

  408. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Too easy

  409. JohninOshkosh says:

TBS kills the crowd. Don’t know why. NBCSN does it with hockey as well. Bubble broadcasting.

  410. Jandy says:

    No they’re not very loud

  411. Steelag70 says:

Good news is that the heart of our order will have at least one more chance to add on some runs…

  412. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  413. cmat0829 says:

Memo to TBS…. either use the Pitchtrax or get rid of it. Amazing that in 2013 no one in their intrepid producing corps can notice how much it is off. And if the announcers aren’t going to reference it, then dump it.

MLB Network the other day used it brilliantly on replays of close pitches…. and it wasn’t distracting like this graphic is all the time on TBS.

  414. Jandy says:

I’m glad you noticed, OshKosh, otherwise, something would be wrong with you ;)

  415. Steelag70 says:

    Time for a Marte Partay….

  416. Bob Hasis says:

They brought him in for his defense – you can’t expect him to hit also

  417. Steelag70 says:

    Dangit Neil…

  418. OldSoldier21 says:

Damn, that was quick. Top 8 coning after these words from our sponsors……

  419. cmat0829 says:

Adams inhaled that Walker grounder like a late-night pizza…on to the 8th. And Melancon has the tougher task tonight… 2-3-4 due up for the Cards….

  420. Jandy says:

don’t touch it, Ryan, please….I’m tired of the same old song and dance.

  421. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I’ve seen enough of Barmes to know that he does have range, a good glove, and is ultimately a better defensive SS than Jordy.

Not knocking Jordy. He as shown vast improvements this year and I do think he’s the every day guy next year.

  422. tcb says:

big guns up for the Cards in the 8th. Good challenge for the Shark.

  423. JohninOshkosh says:

Good stuff, cmat. I’m dying here.

  424. OldSoldier21 says:

If they take him to RF, it could get ugly. Hopefully, he has some adjustments in his toolkit…..

  425. Steelag70 says:

    Shark time!!

  426. Jandy says:

    let’s go great white shark!

  427. The Justice Avenger says:

  428. theplanisworking says:

    Well, that sucks……………………

  429. Steelag70 says:

  430. JohninOshkosh says:

    Carlos Beltran, ladies and gentlemen.

  431. OldSoldier21 says:

Beltran ties it up. Melancon not up to the task.

  432. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

You know I can’t let that stupid crap go.

    Its too much fun.

  433. Dom says:

At least nobody was on base.

  434. Jandy says:

at least we give credit where it’s due, Mr. Hasis. SOmething you don’t do

  435. OldSoldier21 says:

Well the out countdown is out of the window…..

  436. BDHumbert says:

Frankie was up in the zone all day – and Melancon put one on a tee for Beltran…

  437. Jandy says:

well, at least you and others, including myself, give credit where it’s due.

  438. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Shark…damn…

  439. JohninOshkosh says:

Home team gets last at bats. Thankfully.

  440. BDHumbert says:

    Holiday is an idiot

  441. Steelag70 says:

At least we have our big guns up in the 8th….

  442. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Hate Beltran.

Liked the 1st pitch. Should’ve shown the curve ball on the 2nd.

Missed locations to one of the best post season hitters of all time.

  443. OldSoldier21 says:

    an easy 3-4-1 put out

  444. Dom says:

I wonder if they practiced that…

  445. Steelag70 says:

    Nice play Neil!

  446. Jandy says:

    And Melancon helps himself

  447. The Justice Avenger says:

my wife said pirates will have some 8th or 9th inning heroics on our own long ball…we can only hope!

  448. cmat0829 says:

big defensive play by Walker and Melancon to get the first out…. especially big after Molina’s soft-serve single to right.

  449. OldSoldier21 says:

Molina got the memo – take that slider to right……..

  450. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  451. JohninOshkosh says:

Carlos Beltran passed Babe Ruth in postseason home runs.

    Babe freakin’ Ruth.

  452. cmat0829 says:

BIG DOUBLE PLAY….. Freeze ice-cold this series so far.

  453. BDHumbert says:

I am not a manager – but Beltran would not have seen a strike to hit if it were up to me..

  454. OldSoldier21 says:

A GIDP gets him out of the inning – is it okay to breathe again?

  455. Wild Bill says:

    Let’s get some runs!

  456. Bob Hasis says:

Melancon has had way better innings than this one

  457. The Justice Avenger says:

  458. tcb says:

    Battle of the bullpens.

  459. Dom says:

I was thinking we should have kept Wilson in there to go lefty-lefty.

  460. Steelag70 says:

Ok, Cutch, Morneau and Byrd….time to put this game to rest….

  461. cmat0829 says:

    and a few worse

  462. DJ says:

Beltran let the first pitch belt high go by for strike one.

Was not going to do the same for strike two in the same location.

  463. OldSoldier21 says:

Beltran is a switch hitter. He seems to hit good from both sides……

  464. Steelag70 says:

Or at least make beltran hit righty… ;)

  465. cmat0829 says:

beltran is a switchhitter, but get the point

  466. Dom says:

    Oh right. ..

  467. cmat0829 says:

doubt the cards sign him after this season.

  468. The Justice Avenger says:

that is who you want up right now!

  469. florida steeler says:

Why do you EVER allow Beltran to bat left??

  470. theplanisworking says:

    CUTCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  471. The Justice Avenger says:

  472. Jandy says:

  473. DJ says:

    MLB technology > TBS technology.

  474. OldSoldier21 says:

Cutch!!!!! Leadoff 2 bagger. MVP!!! MVP!!!!!

  475. Steelag70 says:

  476. cmat0829 says:

    CUTCH CLUTCH…. bunt More-no???

  477. The Justice Avenger says:

  478. Steelag70 says:

    Ok Morny…get him to 3rd….

  479. theplanisworking says:

  480. OldSoldier21 says:

Cutch very UNMVP like move STUPID!!!!!!

  481. Jandy says:

  482. cmat0829 says:

bad baserunning Cutch. I’d have bunted, for the record.

  483. Steelag70 says:

  484. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Little League.

But I’m sure that was Leyvas fault. Should’ve talked to him like his LL coach did.

  485. cmat0829 says:

  486. theplanisworking says:

Pirates regular season baserunning gaffes re-appear at the wrong time.

  487. Jandy says:

That WILL bite us in the butt… :(

  488. Steelag70 says:

    Hope that doesn’t cost them….

  489. The Justice Avenger says:

This isn’t Pirates and Cards in July…

  490. DJ says:

I’d have had Morneau pull it to the right side . . . for the record.

  491. OldSoldier21 says:

Up to Byrd to pick up Cutch from getting the goat of the game award.

  492. Jandy says:

  493. Steelag70 says:

    Poor communication

  494. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Byrd Man….

  495. The Justice Avenger says:

    petey up next…

  496. OldSoldier21 says:

Baseball 101, never make the first or 3rd out at 3rd base. So disappointed…..

  497. cmat0829 says:

This ump’s terrible strikecalling has the teams expecting everything that the catcher catches and the hitter doesn’t swing at to be called a strike. Awful.

  498. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Whoa whoa whoa..

    I deny everything

  499. Dom says:

    Pedro time

  500. Steelag70 says:

Nice job Marlon…..Ok Petey…time for another big hit….

  501. OldSoldier21 says:

Byrd walks, Harrison to 2nd – Petey with a chance to be a HERO! He will face the LOOGY……

  502. cmat0829 says:

walk to byrd negates the baserunning gaffe…. RISP with 1 out… lefty to pitch to PEDRO…. I leave Pedro in, but you can go to Gaby Sanchez if you want.

  503. theplanisworking says:

Since Pedro struggles so much against lefties, do you bunt him here?

  504. tcb says:

Pedro vs. a tough lefty. I’ll take a bloop.

  505. cmat0829 says:

COME ON BUCs, let’s score here… besides clubhouse spreads are already set up…Adams has gotten a whiff and it’s hard for him to concentrate….

  506. Steelag70 says:

    Tough matchup here for Petey…

  507. cmat0829 says:

definitely not. 1 out already. you can pinch hit Gaby but I doubt they will. Petey has had good looks for a week or so now.

  508. Steelag70 says:

  509. DJ says:

With it tied now it will be even sweeter when we win this one.

  510. florida steeler says:

    Base running gaffes all year.

  511. cmat0829 says:

PEDRO!!!!!!!! (nothing happend yet, i just wanna be first)

  512. The Justice Avenger says:

we have waited 20 years for this kind of drama….but…my heart can’t take it. i am 20 years older…

  513. chethejet says:

Cutch not a good move. Morneau simply should have advance him to third with a bunt. That was the play. You need one run to win the game if you believe the bull Pen can hold another lead. That may have cost them a good chance to go up one game. Basics, Clint, basics.

  514. OldSoldier21 says:

  515. The Justice Avenger says:

  516. cmat0829 says:

take that Matheny, your LOOGY failed

  517. theplanisworking says:

    4-3 Good Guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  518. Steelag70 says:

  519. OldSoldier21 says:

Big time play by a big time player!!!!!!!!! 4-3 GOOD guys!

  520. Brent says:

  521. Jandy says:

    Petey comes thru :)

  522. BDHumbert says:

Were are all of the Pedro haters now…

    He comes up HUGE!

  523. Dom says:

    Pedro! Pedro! Pedro!

  524. Jandy says:

  525. The Justice Avenger says:

the cat is out of the bag now…

  526. Steelag70 says:

  527. Steelag70 says:

    Molina hurt….

  528. theplanisworking says:

    Thank You, Ma’am. :)

  529. Jandy says:

yer an ol’ fart, TJA ;)

  530. cmat0829 says:

    Couple points;

Cards DONT shift on Pedro, notice where his base hit went?
Harrison pinch running for More-no allowed runner to score there, Justin would’nt have done so.

  531. The Justice Avenger says:

wow is right, steel…awesome call, but didn’t work

  532. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Russ….

  533. The Justice Avenger says:

    come on russ…a single….a single….

  534. cmat0829 says:

Fire up the grill, but let’s get one more run first

  535. OldSoldier21 says:

    My favorite Martin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-3!!!!!!!!!!

  536. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Thing of beauty

  537. Jandy says:

  538. theplanisworking says:

    YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5-3 Good guys!!!

  539. cmat0829 says:

a SINGLE! Martin has been GOOD GOOD GOOD this postseason

  540. Steelag70 says:

  541. Jandy says:

    woop woop!!!!

  542. Steelag70 says:

Russ is a Cardinal killer this year….

  543. OldSoldier21 says:

I gotta tell ya, my heart was in much better shape for this in 1992. whoa nelly!

  544. cmat0829 says:

still only 1 out…. be patient Gaby….and let’s put the Cards out of their misery with a 3-run jack.

  545. theplanisworking says:

    Wrong Day! ;)

  546. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Gaby…..

  547. BDHumbert says:

And I take back all the bad things I sad about Martin…

  548. Steelag70 says:

    LOL…agreed Old Soldier….

  549. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    No. Poor base running.

  550. The Justice Avenger says:

    come on gaby…a single…a single….

  551. The Justice Avenger says:

  552. Baywatch says:

My Favorite Martin!!! (AND, the wife says, time for HIM to gut punch somebody!)

  553. theplanisworking says:

    Time to close this out!

If Molina comes to bat………. walk him !!!!

  554. OldSoldier21 says:

Sanchez GIDP but the BUCS score twice making it 3 outs to go!!!!!!

  555. Jandy says:

These guys battled back again…now…HOLD ‘EM!

  556. Steelag70 says:

    Dangit…..ok Grilled Cheese time!!!

  557. cmat0829 says:

    thank you kindly Russ.

  558. Dom says:

    3 outs to go.

  559. DJ says:

. . . but always keep in mind he’s not as good as Yadi. Not.

  560. OldSoldier21 says:

Molina got his single last inning – if he comes up again, that is really not good for the home team…….

  561. Steelag70 says:

Not only is Chilli’s confidence back, but so is the heat….

  562. So you’d walk the leadoff batter with a 1-run lead and the 3-4-5 hitters due up?

  563. cmat0829 says:

Adams up first… he loves Grilled Cheese….. keep it away from him… he’s hungry.

  564. DJ says:

Let’s hope Cheese has his 94 – 95 fastball with him tonight.

  565. The Justice Avenger says:

  566. Jandy says:

    Let’s go Cheese!

  567. The Justice Avenger says:

  568. OldSoldier21 says:

Damn, Adams fists one to left for a lead off single……

  569. Steelag70 says:

  570. Dom says:

  575. cmat0829 says:

  576. Jandy says:

    She’s a good wife, keep her :)

  577. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  578. theplanisworking says:

  579. Jandy says:

  580. OldSoldier21 says:

  582. Dom says:

    1 out to go!!!

  583. Jandy says:

  584. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Hold you’re breathe on this one folks!

    But I got a good feeling…

  585. Steelag70 says:

  602. Steelag70 says:

Great poise and resiliency once again by this Bucco team!!

  603. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  610. The Justice Avenger says:

  611. Steelag70 says:

    One more to go!!

  612. OldSoldier21 says:

Pedro came up HUGE against a very tough lefty, he is my star of the game and a very good candidate for NLDS MVP…… If that exists.

  613. cmat0829 says:

anyone remember losing game 1, 9-1? didn’t think so. And that includes Mike Matheny and the Cardinals. Tomorrow’s game 4 is HUGE…. and the battling Bucs keep on amazing us all.

  614. Steelag70 says:

Marlon Byrd may be the best in-season acquisition ever made by this franchise….IMPACT BAT…..

  615. Brandie says:

  617. Steelag70 says:

Pedro is putting it together at just the right time…..

  618. diehard says:

Yeeeaaaahhh! I have always been pretty open that I’m not a really big Pedro fan, BUT also I’ve admitted that if he hits, we’ll be in this thing for a while. Go Pedro!

  619. Brandie says:

  623. DJ says:

Russell Mar-tan huge in this one.

Worth his weight in gold as an off season signing.

Perfect for the number 7 spot.

  624. theplanisworking says:

    What she said ^^^^

  625. OldSoldier21 says:

  627. War Horse says:

Far and away the best game of the series–a nail-biter much of the way. We were wearing black in my house in England, my Pirate hat atop my head, just like all you fans back home. Some really clutch hitting and pitching today. Grilli is in his goove.

  628. Brandie says:

Suffer No More! Good to know you, Bay!

  629. toochca says:

Glad i got home in time for the 8th inning!! Raise the Jolly Roger!!

  630. DJ says:

    Right beside Bill Madlock, certainly.

  631. Arriba Wilver says:

  632. The Justice Avenger says:

  633. Dom says:

  634. Brandie says:

Feeling and Feeding The Vibes Great Defender! :-)

  635. Officer Mancuso says:

Where’s Milo? We’re all just friends here.

  636. channelclemente says:

Go figure, half of San Francisco has turned into Buc’s fans. Maybe you remind of us of the Giants in 2010. Go kick some birdbutt.

  637. Brandie says:

    Goody Toochca!

  638. Steelag70 says:

My brother is soooo funny…he thinks that it is silly to say “Raise the Jolly Roger” so he uses “Raise the Apple” instead….lol.

  639. Brandie says:

    Sweet Dreams Vengie!

  640. theplanisworking says:

  641. Brandie says:

    Dang Straight!

  642. Steelag70 says:

Agreed….Mighty Five Mad Dog was a good one….

  643. theplanisworking says:

    You also, Brandimal.
I am out like a light.

Be safe, hang in there, and hope to see you in here tomorrow.

  644. toochca says:

    Hey Branilicious!!

  645. channelclemente says:

Come to jesus with a smile on your face.

  646. toochca says:

    Night J A!

  647. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  648. KenKopp says:

    Hey Nickname Girl,

    We won!

  649. Brandie says:

That’s right, Kopp Scotch! Those who stuck it out for Twenty plus years and then some have certainly won!!!!!!

  650. florida steeler says:

Let’s get Wacha early and often.

  651. Daquido_Bazzini says:

    All one can say is….WOW!!

  652. DJ says:

    Michael Wacha better watch out.

    Let’s devour the rookie.

  653. Milo Hamilton says:

    That was fun.

  654. JohninOshkosh says:

  655. JohninOshkosh says:

The Cardinals will not blink at facing an elimination game. They won’t be scared and they will come to play and win.

    Let’s get this done tomorrow!

  656. rvfcprez says:

Yes!!! Let’s not have to go back to St. Louis!!!

  657. Thundercrack says:

Another great playoff game and victory.

I admit that I scratched my head when Clint pinch hit for Barmes.
But then I remembered: In Clint I Trust

  658. pattonbb says:

  659. bizrow says:

Mercer made that real fine play behind second else we would have been in a pickle.

    Clint has magic dust

  660. bizrow says:

I found a great place to park if you have to go to/by the airport on your way home. Park at the convention center, take the Ft Duquesne bypass. I’ve been able to zip all the way to Hopewell after these past two games without one bit of traffic

  661. Arriba Wilver says:

  662. Arriba Wilver says:

I always go that way, Biz. The North Shore traffic scares me. ;-)

  663. Thundercrack says:

I will refrain from any “park at the casino” comments

  664. Milo Hamilton says:

Same thing for Route 28. Always take Ft. Duquesne Bridge from downtown. It avoids all vehicle & pedestrian traffic in and around the ballpark. Home in less than 30 minutes every time.

  665. Lad 9 says:

Got back to Bethel Park, stopped to eat and got home fifteen minutes ago. It can be done

Great night at the ball yard Biz. Lets close them out tomorrow.

  666. Eric Bowser says:

I am exhausted… another outstanding baseball game.

  667. Brandie says:

  668. JohninOshkosh says:

If you guys are familiar with SNL’s “The Californians”:

    You guys are “The Pittsburghians”

  669. Patrick(ri) says:

    What Milo said above. Fun!

  670. KenKopp says:

Hey nickname girl! Long day, we just ate and I have to be on the job early am. Glad to see ya back. Night all.

    Go Bucs.

  671. bizrow says:

Good thing, one time me saying that got me in “big trouble” ;-)

  672. Lad 9 says:

Same here Eric. I feel like I played Brandcita…. Great game

  673. Brandie says:

    Sweet Dreams Kopp Rocks!

  674. bizrow says:

I gotta work and in a place where cell phones have to be turned off and no internet access.

But, I don’t think we will lose at home.

This was a game that the “inexperienced team” should have lost.

  675. Lad 9 says:

    Night KK. Go Buccos!

  676. Brandie says:

Guess you earned your Fuel Perks then!

  677. Eric Bowser says:

I played… the “Woooo Yeah!” position

  678. Lad 9 says:

BRANDIE!!!!! Glad you caught the game. It was electric again down there! And my awesome boss is letting me take tomorrow afternoon off!

  679. Lad 9 says:

And hope you are feeling better.

  680. Brandie says:

And without a contract too! Fascinating!!!!! :-)

    Good Job on the W!

  681. Ed says:

Oh man what a day! What a game! Got to sit in Sec 119, thanks to a friend that came through big time. That place was electric!

  682. Drew71 says:

    Nutting’s Cauldron.

    That’s all I got.

  683. Baywatch says:

    We Are FAM-i-LEE!

  684. Baywatch says:

Naming my next garage band … “Ladies & Gentlemen! Welcome with me, if you would .. “NUTTING’S CAULDRON!” (This one’s GOT to have a dynamite, Duane Allman-type slide guitar player!)

  685. bizrow says:

Or its that lucky hat thingie

  686. bizrow says:

Plus, I only have to “pay” one machine ;-)

  687. Ed says:

A little taste of what it was like to be there:

  688. bizrow says:

I’ve had a guy like Slick Frank work for me.

And that’s all I have to say about that

  689. Baywatch says:

    That was EXCELLENT, Ed! Thanks!

  690. Brandie says:

I was five years old and a holy kindergarten terror!!!! Good Times!

  691. bizrow says:

    Morneau goes deep soon

Pedro, seems like every time he is interviewed, he says the right thing, says he loves the city

    Just saying, you never know

  692. Brandie says:

Every time this team was left for dead…

Just goes to show…It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, how many times you get up for the next round is what counts!!!!!
