  1. Wow, it is really hard to get into the Pens games right now. I’m sports drained today from the Bucs ride. I’m glad the Pens are playing tonight though. I can relax and watch it and recoup for tomorrow at 8:07pm. Been a fun ride and I hope it goes all the way to the West Coast. Pack heavy DK, hopefully you won’t be coming home for a few days.

Go Pens! Go Bucs! Ooops almost forgot: Go Steelers!

    • I hear you, Ken, on the Bucs taking most of my sports attention right now. I hope that goes on for a few more weeks.

The Pens have not been on national TV yet, so I have not caught anything but highlights on NHLN. I suspect that will end soon enough, though.

I’m pretty happy that the Bucs game is on at night tomorrow. I thought it was going to be a late afternoon game, and I have no chance of getting out of the office early tomorrow.

      • The NHL Network is free right now. Check it out. If your cable provider carries it the game will be on. Probably free for a few more days.

Ditto on the time change. I was going to tape it, but that ain’t the same. 8:07, strong game from Cole, Buc bats draw some blood, The Shark Tank smells it and off to LA.

    • not hard at all for me! Hubby put his ear plugs in again lol

  2. Just got the time to read your column today, Dejan. Well done. My thoughts exactly. This series is tied. We’ve beaten Wainwright before. They have not beaten Cole. I think it is going to be a nail biter, just like yesterday. But, this one, we’ll win 4-2.

  3. Nice to have this little hockey game tonight to distract me from the intensity of Pirate Playoffs! I know hockey playoffs are tough but this roller coaster ride with the Buccos has me wiped out! . . . . . . . and I would NOT have it any other way!!!

Go Pens tonight. Beat the . . . . . (have to scroll up to see who playing) . . . those Staals!

Anybody know when the Steeler season starts?

  4. What is this Hawk-ey thing that’s going on here??

I really wish I knew more about the sport.

  5. Let’s go for an undefeated October, Pennies!

  6. Penguins Lineup

    Carolina Lineup

  7. What to watch for tonight…

    - Take a drink for every… Staal brothers comment from Steigy
    - Can Crosby, Kobasew, and Adams score another goal for 3 in 3 games?
    - Will Malkin play in the dirty areas and start shooting the puck?

  8. Gonna take a little time to get used to this Metro Conference. Is Dana Kirk still at Memphis State ?

  9. Someone wanna help out a non Commonwealther:

What does “Little Prexies” refer to in the nickname for Washiington High School ?

  10. Real nice play by Jeffrey to setup Sutter

  11. Heard a local radio piece the other day about Beau Bennett. They were talking to Derek Lalonde, head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL). He coached Bennett at University of Denver. The piece was about quality hockey players coming out of warm weather areas of the US (Bennett is from Southern Cal). The number is growing and bodes well for US hockey. Used to be almost all American players were from the Northeast and the Upper Midwest.

It was interesting and got me more interested in following Beau’s career.

  12. JOKINEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Earns that paycheck !!!!!!!!!

  13. What a terrible play by Jordan Staal to turn puck over in offensive zone w/ two plays deep on the PK and right up the ice the Pens went and a great backhand by Jokinen beats Ward.

    1-0 Pens

  14. DUPER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 Good Guys.

  15. Verron Hainsey.

  16. Good Evening Everybody!

  17. WE WUZ WOBBED !!!!!!!!!

    I blame Selig.

  18. Fight! Fight! Fight!

  19. First time this year – kicking it in should be legal. It’s a skill and it should be rewarded.

  20. Det leads Oakland 5-4. A’s with bases loaded and facing Scherzer in T8

  21. “Kevin says:
    October 8, 2013 at 3:56 pm

go penguins! who did everybody pick for scoring the first goal tonight? (Jokinen here)”

    Good call Kevin!

    • ha! Thanks Jandy :D… I definitely did not see him scoring 3 times though. I thought I missed the boat when he put the 1st shot of the game off the pipes.

  22. So good to see my sistah Brandecita tonight :D

  23. MARTIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ( Not Jacques, either. ) :)

  24. great pass by Orpik…. LOL
    Martin scores off bounce
    2-0 Pens

  25. The good thing about Tanner Glass is for the Pens to get the guy they thought they were getting it’s really a matter of effort. He needs to play tougher & that’s just a matter of want to. Problem sol-ved.

  26. Would have thought Ryan Murphy would be a left winger.

  27. Looks like there will be a decisive game in Oakland. Tigers came back from a 3-0 deficit. Hope the plumbing can handle it out there in the land of Oaks.

Will the Rays force a third game 5 of the playoffs in Beantown ?

  28. I posted something on yesterday’s Morning thread about this:

I read Josh Yohe’s article on the improved defense/goaltending of the Pens this year.
One thing I didnt see was any mention, or credit given to Jacques Martin.

The 1-3-1 lock, or zone trap, or whatever they call it, is doing wonders for the D. Also, the re-acquisition of Scuds, and not sending all 5 players into the offensive zone is helping also.

Just odd no mention of Martin, a truly great defensive coach.

  29. what did Detroit just do?

  30. Go Pens.

For some reason, I’ve been staring at Carolina’s jerseys. I really like them. Crisp scheme and a timeless look. Very impressive.

    And then they score.

  31. BLast it, Carolina scored

  32. Not much Fleury could do there

  33. OK looks like Tigers just won

  34. Hey Guys & Gals,

Tomorrow night is going to be intense. We are in game 5 of the NLDS with a rookie pitching and so so… many other things to factor in. Me I’m going to enjoy it.

  35. Yes, going to be that guy.

Malkin has 5 shots on goal through 2 games plus 2 periods….

    … not good enough.
