  1. KenKopp says:

Wow, it is really hard to get into the Pens games right now. I’m sports drained today from the Bucs ride. I’m glad the Pens are playing tonight though. I can relax and watch it and recoup for tomorrow at 8:07pm. Been a fun ride and I hope it goes all the way to the West Coast. Pack heavy DK, hopefully you won’t be coming home for a few days.

Go Pens! Go Bucs! Ooops almost forgot: Go Steelers!

  2. Jim S. says:

I hear you, Ken, on the Bucs taking most of my sports attention right now. I hope that goes on for a few more weeks.

The Pens have not been on national TV yet, so I have not caught anything but highlights on NHLN. I suspect that will end soon enough, though.

I’m pretty happy that the Bucs game is on at night tomorrow. I thought it was going to be a late afternoon game, and I have no chance of getting out of the office early tomorrow.

  3. Jim S. says:

Just got the time to read your column today, Dejan. Well done. My thoughts exactly. This series is tied. We’ve beaten Wainwright before. They have not beaten Cole. I think it is going to be a nail biter, just like yesterday. But, this one, we’ll win 4-2.

  4. KenKopp says:

The NHL Network is free right now. Check it out. If your cable provider carries it the game will be on. Probably free for a few more days.

Ditto on the time change. I was going to tape it, but that ain’t the same. 8:07, strong game from Cole, Buc bats draw some blood, The Shark Tank smells it and off to LA.

  5. Jim S. says:

Oh, that’s right. It is like MLB Network, right? Free for a week or so to start the season? Great point. Maybe I can catch tonight’s game.

  6. KenKopp says:

It’s on channel 537 here (Brighthouse in Florida) and its a home game so it’ll probably be the Pittsburgh feed.

  7. Nice to have this little hockey game tonight to distract me from the intensity of Pirate Playoffs! I know hockey playoffs are tough but this roller coaster ride with the Buccos has me wiped out! . . . . . . . and I would NOT have it any other way!!!

Go Pens tonight. Beat the . . . . . (have to scroll up to see who playing) . . . those Staals!

Anybody know when the Steeler season starts?

  8. KenKopp says:

    September 14, 2014.

Just kidding (kind of). I’m always optomistic, but those guys are not looking good.

  9. Brandie says:

Insightful and funny. Good one Kopp in the Name of Love!

  10. KenKopp says:

“Brandie you’re a fine girl…” I’m sure you know the song.

  11. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

What is this Hawk-ey thing that’s going on here??

I really wish I knew more about the sport.

  12. KenKopp says:

“Sid shots, He SCORES!” Pretty simple actually.

  13. Brandie says:

That song is the reason for my name.

  14. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    sounds like it.

    I got it from here

  15. JohninOshkosh says:

Let’s go for an undefeated October, Pennies!

  16. Brandie says:

I agree with that sentiment. Good Evening Wisconsin’s Finest!

  17. Brandie says:

    Hey Kool-Aid!!!!

    OH YEAH!

  18. Eric Bowser says:

    Penguins Lineup

    Carolina Lineup

  19. Eric Bowser says:

    What to watch for tonight…

    – Take a drink for every… Staal brothers comment from Steigy
    – Can Crosby, Kobasew, and Adams score another goal for 3 in 3 games?
    – Will Malkin play in the dirty areas and start shooting the puck?

  20. Milo Hamilton says:

Gonna take a little time to get used to this Metro Conference. Is Dana Kirk still at Memphis State ?

  21. JohninOshkosh says:

    What up, Queen B.

  22. JohninOshkosh says:

Someone wanna help out a non Commonwealther:

What does “Little Prexies” refer to in the nickname for Washiington High School ?

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

  24. theplanisworking says:

Jim, just went back and saw your name change for me.

    Truly funny stuff.

  25. theplanisworking says:

I see Muppets in My sleep.

  26. Eric Bowser says:

Real nice play by Jeffrey to setup Sutter

  27. theplanisworking says:

Prexie is a name for President.
Washington and Jefferson college are called the Presidents.
Wash High are the “Little Presidents.”

  28. Milo Hamilton says:

It’s short for Presidents. Washington & Jefferson College is located in Washington PA and they are the Presidents, Prexies. The High School then goes by Little Prexies.

  29. JohninOshkosh says:

Oh, I get it. Thank you, Milo.

Wisconsin has a lot of crazy high school nicknames. Papermakers, Shipbuilders, Pretzels, Ghosts, and Nimrods. I thought this might be in that same vein.

  30. JohninOshkosh says:

    Thanks, Plan.

  31. theplanisworking says:

Didnt mean to step on your toes, Milo.

  32. JohninOshkosh says:

Heard a local radio piece the other day about Beau Bennett. They were talking to Derek Lalonde, head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL). He coached Bennett at University of Denver. The piece was about quality hockey players coming out of warm weather areas of the US (Bennett is from Southern Cal). The number is growing and bodes well for US hockey. Used to be almost all American players were from the Northeast and the Upper Midwest.

It was interesting and got me more interested in following Beau’s career.

  33. Milo Hamilton says:

Mars Planets, Hampton Talbots (a medieval dog). How about The Western Beaver Golden Beavers.

  34. KenKopp says:

Brandie must be from Wisconsin. Nickname Girl that she is.

  35. Milo Hamilton says:

You stepped on nothing Plan. I bet it would hurt though. :)

  36. JohninOshkosh says:

I just saw his post first because I was scrolling from bottom of page, but thanks for you response. :)

  37. JohninOshkosh says:

Oh, the marketing possibilities with the Golden Beavers.

  38. theplanisworking says:

My alma mater……. New Castle Red Hurricanes. No real reason ever given for the “Red”.

  39. Milo Hamilton says:

    Mapletown Fighting Maples.

  40. Brandie says:

I have an aunt who lives in Milwaukee.

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

Mine was the Trojans so you can imagine what product was thrown onto courts and fields.

  42. theplanisworking says:

    Aliquippa Quips.
    Ambridge Bridgers.
    Slippery Rock Rockets.

  43. Brandie says:

    Juicy one by Jussi!

  44. theplanisworking says:

    Earns that paycheck !!!!!!!!!

  45. Eric Bowser says:

What a terrible play by Jordan Staal to turn puck over in offensive zone w/ two plays deep on the PK and right up the ice the Pens went and a great backhand by Jokinen beats Ward.

    1-0 Pens

  46. theplanisworking says:

    Glad you are here, Muppet.
    Queen of the Puns.

  47. Brandie says:

That’s a nice nickname. I like it! Hope all is well in the Dairy Land! Say hi to the Cunningham’s and Laverne and Shirley for me. :-)

  48. Brandie says:

If I take a drink for every Steigy reference to the Staals, I might die!

  49. theplanisworking says:

    DUPER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2-0 Good Guys.

  50. Milo Hamilton says:

    Verron Hainsey.

  51. Brandie says:

    Good Evening Everybody!

  52. theplanisworking says:

    WE WUZ WOBBED !!!!!!!!!

    I blame Selig.

  53. JohninOshkosh says:

    Fight! Fight! Fight!

  54. Milo Hamilton says:

First time this year – kicking it in should be legal. It’s a skill and it should be rewarded.

  55. Brandie says:

Took it back, boo! On the plus side, Tanner Glass fought.

  56. Brandie says:

    I blame Drew-k!

  57. Brandie says:

    Thank you Milo.

  58. Milo Hamilton says:

    Evening you wacky muppet you.

  59. Brandie says:

    Let’s Go Pun-guins!

  60. JohninOshkosh says:

Det leads Oakland 5-4. A’s with bases loaded and facing Scherzer in T8

  61. Brandie says:

    Meyelow! Hi there!

  62. JohninOshkosh says:

Scherzer strikes out two and gets Callaspo to line to centerfield with bases juiced.

Unbelievable. The playoffs, ladies and gentlemen.

  63. Jandy says:

    “Kevin says:
    October 8, 2013 at 3:56 pm

go penguins! who did everybody pick for scoring the first goal tonight? (Jokinen here)”

    Good call Kevin!

  64. Jandy says:

    lucky SOB lol

  65. Jandy says:

Last year it was Kunitz had a lot of goals disallowed….
will it be Duper this season?

  66. Jandy says:

Good job by Glass, looks like he rang harrison’s bell

  67. Jandy says:

So good to see my sistah Brandecita tonight :D

  68. Brandie says:

    Mother Jandelina! Good Evening.

  69. Jandy says:

  70. Jandy says:

Eric, Malkin is lost without Neal…sad but true…

  71. Jandy says:

To answer your last question, Groat, in about 2 or 3 years.

  72. Jandy says:

not hard at all for me! Hubby put his ear plugs in again lol

  73. theplanisworking says:

    MARTIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ( Not Jacques, either. ) :)

  74. Jandy says:

  75. Eric Bowser says:

    great pass by Orpik…. LOL
    Martin scores off bounce
    2-0 Pens

  76. Jandy says:

Ha! Scored on his knees, like Sid does ;)

  77. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, and your Night Janitor Hippo sitting here too………………. ;)

  78. Jandy says:

    We’ll take it!!!!

  79. theplanisworking says:

    That takes some skillz………….

  80. Jandy says:

    What’s the word on Perry?

  81. Jandy says:

    Hipposter, just for you! :*

  82. Jandy says:

    Rad Skillz!

  83. Eric Bowser says:

he’s resting, feeling better after endoscopy and then reaction to the anesthesia

  84. Milo Hamilton says:

The good thing about Tanner Glass is for the Pens to get the guy they thought they were getting it’s really a matter of effort. He needs to play tougher & that’s just a matter of want to. Problem sol-ved.

  85. theplanisworking says:

    HA!! Nut!

  86. Jandy says:

Bless him, eric, I hope they figure it out for him.

  87. Milo Hamilton says:

Would have thought Ryan Murphy would be a left winger.

  88. Jandy says:

Looks that way so far…and the way the cap is, anyone can get cut…so play or don’t, it’s up to him.

  89. Jandy says:

    Bet he didn’t ;)

  90. Jandy says:

    de nada

  91. JohninOshkosh says:

Looks like there will be a decisive game in Oakland. Tigers came back from a 3-0 deficit. Hope the plumbing can handle it out there in the land of Oaks.

Will the Rays force a third game 5 of the playoffs in Beantown ?

  92. Jandy says:

Just appreciate a good Hippo janitor when i see one ;)

  93. Jandy says:

    Playoffs baseball!

  94. Jandy says:

Oh man, Sutter, what a let down!

  95. theplanisworking says:

I posted something on yesterday’s Morning thread about this:

I read Josh Yohe’s article on the improved defense/goaltending of the Pens this year.
One thing I didnt see was any mention, or credit given to Jacques Martin.

The 1-3-1 lock, or zone trap, or whatever they call it, is doing wonders for the D. Also, the re-acquisition of Scuds, and not sending all 5 players into the offensive zone is helping also.

Just odd no mention of Martin, a truly great defensive coach.

  96. Jandy says:

    what did Detroit just do?

  97. Jandy says:

I was wondering about that too Hipposter

  98. Dave G says:

    Go Pens.

For some reason, I’ve been staring at Carolina’s jerseys. I really like them. Crisp scheme and a timeless look. Very impressive.

    And then they score.

  99. Jandy says:

    BLast it, Carolina scored

  100. JohninOshkosh says:

Oakland has managed to get tying run to the plate in T9 after starting inning 4 runs down.

  101. Eric Bowser says:

Not much Fleury could do there

  102. Jandy says:

No, who’s skate did it go off of Eric? bad break there.

  103. theplanisworking says:

    8-6 final.

  104. Jandy says:

OK looks like Tigers just won

  105. Jandy says:

    nice, Flower

  106. Jandy says:

    AHhh Jussi!

  107. KenKopp says:

That explains it all. (-: Sorry was on the phone with a long lost friend for the last hour. Calling to congradulate me on the Pirates. That was nice and Kool!

  108. Eric Bowser says:

    E Staal’s stick… great play.

  109. Eric Bowser says:

Should be a good game 5

  110. Jandy says:

    for sure!

  111. Jandy says:

    Thanks, Eric

  112. KenKopp says:

    Hey Guys & Gals,

Tomorrow night is going to be intense. We are in game 5 of the NLDS with a rookie pitching and so so… many other things to factor in. Me I’m going to enjoy it.

  113. Eric Bowser says:

Yes, going to be that guy.

Malkin has 5 shots on goal through 2 games plus 2 periods….

    … not good enough.

  159. Brandie says:

What makes it a Wild Chair?

  160. Barb says:

Hey hey Hipposter. Only kind of chair to have!

  161. Brandie says:

You are here now and that’s what counts.

  162. theplanisworking says:

Being in a room with us.

  163. Brandie says:

Olli Maata is a good problem to have. It will be hard to send him back! On the plus side…Mike Lange and The OK’ 29er are wishing The Buccos well. Classy! :-)

  164. Barb says:

I cancelled my church choir practice tomorrow night because the Buccos are playing. Not really half of the members aren’t going to be there tomorrow but it sounded good. Forgive me Lord!

  165. Barb says:

    Two thumbs up!

  166. theplanisworking says:

Talk to Jandy and Lucky too. ;)

  167. Jandy says:

    All forgiven ;)

  168. scapper says:

  178. Wild Bill says:

  179. Brandie says:

    Goody Toochca!

  180. toochca says:

    Hey, Brandilicious!!

  181. theplanisworking says:

Well, Pens with another solid win tonight.
The improved D has me feeling better about this team than previous years.

    I am outta here.
I am sure when I have my usual sleep problems, I will don my cape and resume my night janitor duties on here.

    And…….. GO BUCS !!!!!!!!!!!!

  182. Wild Bill says:

    Maatta was very impressive.

  183. toochca says:

    Later Plan!!

  184. Barb says:

    Night Plan!

  185. Jandy says:

    sweet dreams Hippo Janitor :*

  186. Wild Bill says:

    No snoring.

  187. Eric Bowser says:

I like Maatta, preferred him over Pouliot and he’s showing why I was not a fan of Pens taking Pouliot over some of the forwards that were taken after him.

They can’t send him back to London (OHL), just can’t.

He deserves to stay here and grow up with Bortuzzo to form a fine 3rd defensive pairing.

  188. toochca says:

The Rays are on their 3 pitcher. It’s in the bottom of 4 and it’s scoreless!!

  189. Jandy says:

heartily agreed. But cap constraints may dictate otherwise

  190. Barb says:

Well I need to call it a night also. I need to be at work 6:30 tomorrow morning. Until tomorrow night…..Let’s go Bucs!

  191. Jandy says:

6 am at the office for me….right behind you….night!

  192. Jason81 says:

Maybe he can hang out with Mike Zagurski!

  193. Brandie says:

    Good night ladies!

  194. bizrow says:

    Good tidings everyone

Gotta get some rest, so we are all in tomorrow.

Will be a great night of celebrating

  195. KenKopp says:

Night Lunnies. Sweet Dreams. Bunch of runs and our rookie pitching the game of his life. With some sharks thrown in.

    Go Bucs!

  196. Kevin says:

ha! Thanks Jandy :D… I definitely did not see him scoring 3 times though. I thought I missed the boat when he put the 1st shot of the game off the pipes.
