  2. Kevin says:

GO penguins… sending Jandy-like good vibes for a good first game for Jeff Zatkoff. I am only assuming he will be the starter tonight as they’ll probably save Fleury for the TB lightning.

  3. Jim S. says:

I admit I have been consumed by baseball until now, Kevin.

What is the story on Zatkoff? Does he have a chance to be good?

Below us a link to Yohe’s article on Zatkoff.

You may have already read this.

Looks like he hasn’t received an opportunity because of the guys ahead of him.

  6. theplanisworking says:

On the morning thread, I posted a link describing Adrian Peterson’s 2 year-old son was in critical condition due to abuse from the boy’s mother’s boyfriend.

Here is the astonishingly horrible conclusion…………..

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9809579/adrian-peterson-son-dies-injuries-suffered-alleged-assault

  7. theplanisworking says:

    If anyone is in here………………………..

    MALKIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If no one is in here, sorry I woke you up………. ;)

  8. Barb says:

There is a special place in hell for monsters and animals who hurt and/or kill children.

  9. theplanisworking says:

Agreed! Coward doesnt begin to describe him.

And thank you for being another person in here! ;)

  10. Barb says:

You’re welcome Hipposter. I think everyone has deserted us. Oh well at least they have lives on a Friday night. And as far as that monster coward seems to be too kind of a word for IT.

  11. theplanisworking says:

    Yeah.
Raining/flooding here……… roads closed, so I am in til Sunday.

Need to go round up the usual suspects here.

Unless the Trib site gets attacked again…… like this morning.

  12. Barb says:

Oh I hope the flooding doesn’t affect your pond. I was wondering what happened to the site this morning until I read when I got home about the cyber attack.

  13. theplanisworking says:

I live on the top of 2 huge hills……… so my Pond is safe. But there is mega flooding all around……. just talked to a friend and it took her 2 hours to get home…. a 2 mile trip because of all the closed roads….

    AND WE SCORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

  14. scapper says:

    Dear Tonight’s Director:

Can you PLEASE order the person manning the main center ice camera to pull back and stop zooming in so close? I know it’s a low setup in Florida, but all he has to do is keep a wider shot. This is maddening. He’s giving us really small segments of the ice most of the time.

Guess I can look at the bright side and say that I AM spending most of the game surprise. “Whoa, where did he come from? Oh, there IS someone coming down that lane!”

  15. Barb says:

Yes – Adams has more goals than Malkin. Who’d a thunk it?

  16. Where AHL President, Jandy?

AHL is “Astute Ladies of Hockey”

  17. Barb says:

Hey Scapper so glad you joined Hipposter and me. It was getting kinda lonely here.

  18. Barb says:

Hey Revvie another state heard from. Everyone is slowly jumping in.

  19. theplanisworking says:

    Mr. Reverend, you are correct!

Hope this finds you doing well, as I sandbag my property………… ;)

  20. Or Astute Hockey Ladies, one or tother.

BTW, is this the night that the 1-3-1 or Box and 1 or Triangle and 2 or 2-3 or whatever is tested due to a backup goalie?

  21. That much rain?

What is it, Hurricane Hippo made landfall?

  22. Jandy and Eric must have forgotten there’s a game tonight.

  23. theplanisworking says:

I was thinking the same thing.
The 1-3-1 is going to be the key to tonights game.
Zatkoff seems a little shaky……….. but I cant tell if its nerves, or the D not protecting him.

Box and 1……….. Lucky, thats basketball. ;)

  24. theplanisworking says:

I dont know, but Harrisburg is floating downstream for some reason……………. lots of roads closed around here.

  25. I know. So is Triangle and 2. I just think it’s neat it’s a 1-3-1. My kids’ basketball team used to run that press.

  26. Eric Bowser says:

Worst period of the season so far and gotta be happy to be even, 2-2.

Crosby was bad… don’t say that often.

Glass was good… can’t believe I’m saying that.

Adams scored rebound goal because of Glass’ power move to net.

Finally good to see Evgeni Malkin get a goal.

  27. theplanisworking says:

No, one is firing Bylsma, and one is planting size 9′s up people’s a$$e$.
Not that they dont need to do that sort of thing……… ;)

  28. theplanisworking says:

    Welcome, Eric.

I was just telling Lucky you were busy firing Bylsma. ;)

  29. Eric’s finally checking in, too, Barb.

  30. scapper says:

Yeah, had a little trouble typing what with all the tumbleweeds blowing around.

  31. theplanisworking says:

    Your kids team made wine?
    Wow. ;)

  32. scapper says:

Watch out, Ovie. Adams is comin’ hard for that Richard trophy.

  33. Eric Bowser says:

Nah, tonight I’m benching Crosby… what a loser…. we want Glass, we want Glass, we want Glass.

  34. theplanisworking says:

Speaking of Ovie…….. havent heard anything about him.
Hope he is enjoying another year of nothingness………..

  35. No, she had her head under the hood of that Shelby.

    She’s here not, too.

  36. theplanisworking says:

Could have sworn I saw a Nun around here…………..

with a Nun and a Reverend here tonight, I feel safe.

  37. How about Noah and an ark?

  38. Jandy says:

Jandy is here! Hubby was on e-bay lol

  39. Here “now”

    Darn Jandy typos.

  40. Jandy says:

I thought I was being hyper-critical of Sid. thanks Eric lol

  41. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  42. Jandy says:

    Is the blog fixed yet?

  43. theplanisworking says:

I would settle for Hippo and a boat………….

  44. Jandy says:

With all the rain around we may NEED

  45. theplanisworking says:

If terrorists like you and DK would stop breaking it…. ;)

  46. Jandy says:

    an ark lol

  47. Jandy says:

    Me? I’m an angel

    :D

  48. theplanisworking says:

Is it flooding near you, too?

  49. Jandy says:

he was looking at a Camaro in New York State he wanted to bid on…I told him to get the little 4 cylinder Mustang that’s been in my driveway sold first lol

  50. theplanisworking says:

    With horns :D

  51. Eric Bowser says:

That was a terrible shift by Orpik

  52. Jandy says:

Hubby was talking about going to see Metallica’s 3D movie that’s out…but he said he’ll wait till tomorrow maybe lol

  53. theplanisworking says:

Is it me, or is Malkin pressing too much?

  54. Jandy says:

so far no. The creek behind the house is ok too. I’m hoping it stays that way

  55. Barb says:

Hey Jandy so glad you made it.

  56. Jandy says:

hahahaaa that’s what hubby always says ;)

  57. Jandy says:

    Zatkoff owes Martin a beer

  58. Jandy says:

yeah I think he is, just a bit…

  59. Barb says:

I believe so. With Adams scoring more goals. :)

  60. Jandy says:

    Hi Barb…me too :)
Yinz guys missed me, how cool

  61. Jandy says:

Spunkster is taking my name in vain

  62. Barb says:

I think the whole team is playing below their talents.

  63. Jandy says:

Craig effn Adams is awesome…who knew…

  64. JohninOshkosh says:

Florida was selling tickets to this game 60% off.

Home opener. Against a league marquis team with the greatest player in the world. 60% off.

  65. Barb says:

Absolutely. We have to get Brandie here and then we can sing “Hail, Hail the Gang’s All Here”.

  66. Jandy says:

    Crap!

  67. theplanisworking says:

    FIRE BYLSMA! ;)

  68. Jandy says:

    Sad, eh OshKosh

  69. Jandy says:

    Fire Vokoun!

  70. theplanisworking says:

Might be the game there, folks……….
you cannot, I say cannot! give up back-to-back PP goals.

  71. So how does the old 1-3-1 work down a man? (kidding)

  72. Barb says:

Man oh Man. I feel bad for Zatkoff. Where or where is the D? Oh that’s right they don’t play D and can’t stay out of the sin bin. Sheesh.

  73. theplanisworking says:

    Mercy

  74. Jandy says:

it doens’t work at all if your goalie can’t stop the puck…

  75. John, I see Wisconsin and LSU are playing at Lambeau in 2016. How dare the Badgers think they can compete with the might SEC!

  76. Barb says:

They need some – mercy that is.

  77. Jandy says:

well we can still come back from a two goal deficit, IF the guys help Zatkoff out

  78. theplanisworking says:

Why does Steigerwald always say “cleared but not out” ??
If it isnt out of the zone, it obviously isnt cleared !!!

    UGH!

  79. Jandy says:

    divine intervention

  80. I thought that may get a rise out of y’all.

  81. Barb says:

    He is no Doc Emerick.

  82. theplanisworking says:

    Well, get on it !

  83. Jandy says:

I didn’t see her on at all today, she posted early in the morning before I got on…

  84. theplanisworking says:

2 minutes in the sin bin for you ! ;)

  85. Or “mighty”

    Darn Jandy typo again.

  86. Jandy says:

The good Lord helps those who help themselves…

  87. JohninOshkosh says:

Too bad its not the last game of the season in late November. Oh well, should be fun.

  88. Jandy says:

YOu have it BAD, Spunky lol

  89. theplanisworking says:

  90. Jandy says:

  92. Barb says:

Yes. I think they heard our complaints.

  93. Jandy says:

He pulled us within 1…c’mon guys!

  94. It ain’t over ’til it’s over.

    I know, Plansky, wrong sport.

  95. JohninOshkosh says:

This team gave up 7 goals to Tampa Bay last night. Plenty of time to get things squared.

  96. I’ll enjoy a Badger win in that one. Mired her in SEC country and on the blog with Drewster.

  97. theplanisworking says:

    :)

It iz what it iz……………. ;)

Good Vibes to all my fellow posters!

Condolences to Adrian Peterson and his family.

  110. Jandy says:

    :drumroll:

  111. Jandy says:

Good to hear from you Brandecita! You have allayed my worries. HUGZ!

  112. Brandecita.

Just in time for a Carling in a 6-ounce Pony bottle. For twice the price.

  113. theplanisworking says:

    And we are now complete.
    Hope you are doing well.
Hope you arent flooded like where I am.

    Good to see you. :)

  114. Barb says:

Hi Brandi. The gang is all here now.

  115. Barb says:

Hipposter and I talked about the monster who killed Adrian Peterson’s son. Like I said there is a special place in hell for monsters like that.

  116. theplanisworking says:

    Still missing Lad9.
But he doesnt pop in too much on the hockey threads.

  117. Jandy says:

    true dat Hipposter

  118. Jandy says:

barb, that fills me with such anger, I just want to HURT that monster! >:/

  119. Brandie says:

Just wet here. Love the Pens. Miss baseball. Good to see you all!

  120. Eric Bowser says:

If you take away the 2 power play goals… Panthers didn’t really do all that much in the period. Of course, Pens didn’t as well.

Good thing Dupuis kept his head on and scored that goal.

Strange game… Panthers seem to be quite aggressive on the offensive side of the ice but their defensive zone play has a lot to be desired. If Pens can get an early goal, that might open up the flood gates.

  121. Brandie says:

Thanks for the plug. I can remember my parents drinking Black Label Beer when I was quite young.

  122. Brandie says:

Thanks for the spot on analysis, Sir Eric!

  123. Jandy says:

Our PP is woeful again so far this season…need to fix it FAST

    0-3 tonight…

  124. Barb says:

I just don’t understand how anyone can hurt a defenseless child who looks to you for their protection and love.

  125. Eric Bowser says:

    Just call me Captain Obvious

  126. Eric Bowser says:

Was hoping with Coach Martin on staff, he could get the PP scheme change… so much for that hope.

  127. Jandy says:

the monster would have had to be under the influence of something…or is just sick…either way…waste of space…someone should knock him into eternity

  128. Brandie says:

    Or Eric Bowser!

  129. theplanisworking says:

    You Rang?

  130. Jandy says:

haha no, that’s Mr. Tomlin ;)

  131. Jandy says:

I’m willing to give him a bit more time lol

  132. theplanisworking says:

    Thank You, Captain Obvious. ;)

  133. Jandy says:

You want to do the honors?

  134. theplanisworking says:

I thought Martin was D, Granato was PP……….

  135. theplanisworking says:

    With pleasure.

  136. Barb says:

From what I read this not the first time that he has hurt a child. He was involved in a domestic dispute in 2005 with his then girlfriend and her child.

  137. Brandie says:

Plan should be to go from Woeful to Wonderful. Possibly a rift between Bylsma and Martin? Hmm!

  138. theplanisworking says:

    No games for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  139. theplanisworking says:

I thought I was already wonderful?

    :D

  140. theplanisworking says:

    UGH!

  141. Dom says:

    5-3 bad guys

  142. Brandie says:

How many times can you slip the word obvious into normal conversation?

  143. theplanisworking says:

    27.5

  144. Jandy says:

    29 1/2?

  145. Brandie says:

Boo! Boo Dan Bylsma! Boo! Time for an epic Firin’!

  146. Eric Bowser says:

Pens need a backup goalie…. Zatkoff sucks

  147. Jandy says:

sure looks that way eric…I’m rather disappointed

  148. Jandy says:

you’re right Hipposter, just hoping for the “influence” is all

  149. Jandy says:

silly Hippo, of course you are!

  150. Barb says:

Shero needs to get on the horn to find one.

  151. Jandy says:

well then, if he even allowed to walk, something is very wrong…at the very least he should be locked up for life.

  152. Brandie says:

It is quite obvious to me as it should be obvious to you that the word obvious is the obvious backbone of coach speak. Even Stevie Wonder, with his obvious lack of site, can obviously see that the Steelers and their oblivious coaching staff obviously do not have a clue as to ewhat they are doing.

It is obvious to me that you need to obviously put your players in the best and most obvious position to obviously come out the victors in the games they play.

Whoops, must obviously stop channeling my inner Tomlin and obviously concentrate on hockey.

  153. theplanisworking says:

Its obvious you need help. ;)

  154. Jandy says:

    Memo to the Pens:
You’re NOT going to score shooting the puck right into their goalie’s chest.

  155. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  156. Brandie says:

I nominate Plan. He needs a job now that he is no longer hoisting himself up the flagpole after a Bucco win.

  157. Eric Bowser says:

He doesn’t have NHL speed, way too slow moving around in his crease, positioning is brutal….

    I know…. just 1 game…..

  158. Jandy says:

    LOL! that is obviously true!

  159. Jandy says:

    seconded!

  160. Barb says:

    Yes you need Obvious Anonymous.

  161. Jandy says:

YOu’d think being the top AHL goalie last season he’d be …. a bit better?
Well, it IS one game…now…if our boys can just score…

  162. theplanisworking says:

So glad I am not the only one in here, like I was earlier. I really like having you guys and gals here.

  163. Barb says:

Do you think that game speed is different?

  164. Brandie says:

I’m Mike Tomlin and it’s obvious I am the President of Obvious Anonymous. I can also one of its most obvious clients!

  165. theplanisworking says:

    HA !!!!! :D

  166. Barb says:

Makes an irritating game go faster.

  167. Jandy says:

NHL is quite a bit faster than AHL

  168. Barb says:

I don’t think they got that memo Jandy.

  169. Barb says:

    Thought so.

  170. Jandy says:

    sure looks that way

  171. Jandy says:

    Nice job Martin

  172. theplanisworking says:

My simple observations on this 1st road game of the year (Eric, please correct me if I am wrong…)

The Pens new 1-3-1 D is predicated on shutting the other team down in the neutral zone. Tonight, Florida put pressure on our D, which is one way to defeat the 1-3-1. They need to work on staying focused.

Zatkoff is indeed slow. To be fair, no one was counting on him this year, but with Vokoun’s health issues, we now see he is the equivalent of a AAAA player…………… great in the minors, bad in the Big Show.

We have some of the best offensive talent in the world, yet we insist on shooting the puck into the opposing goalies chest. Need to crash the net more. Need to stop pressing, thinking that will help………… that is how mistakes are made, and odd-man rushes against us happen.

But, we have to remember it is early in the season, and we do have 3 wins already.

    :D

  173. Jandy says:

    Well said, Hipposter!

  174. Brandie says:

Where’s Ty Conklin when you need him?

  175. Brandie says:

You djo not need a goalie who mminds the net like he is moving to the Chariots of Fire theme music.

  176. Jandy says:

Well, you can’t win them all…but man, the entire team looked pretty bad tonight…not just Zatkoff.

  177. Barb says:

Well we just told the Lightening their good.

  178. Barb says:

    That should be Panthers.

  179. Barb says:

They need air freshener because they all stunk.

  180. Dom says:

    Seems a bit harsh.

  181. theplanisworking says:

Zatkoff just sat there and watched the puck move around the ice.
    He is slow, and scared.

Problem with the goaltending situation is this………………….
team is up against the cap.
Unless a trade is made, any goalie acquistion will result in cutting/dumping a player.
    Its a messy situation………

  182. Jandy says:

When your player of the game is Craig effn Adams…you have issues lol

  183. Jandy says:

We have players to trade…gotta find a trade partner

  184. Lad 9 says:

Popping in. Had to take care of my youngest tonight who had his wisdom teeth out. Had a bad feeling about this game too and I was right for once. Sounds like we need a backup goalie.

  185. Jandy says:

well, friends, hubby has work tomorrow and I have to get him up and his lunch packed….this Pens fan is off to bed…good night all :*

  186. theplanisworking says:

    Night Nun.

  187. Barb says:

Good night Jandy. I’m signing off to watch my Blue Bloods.

  188. theplanisworking says:

    Good to see you, Laddy.

Hope the teeth make him wise. ;)

  189. Jandy says:

    Hi and night Laddie :)

  190. theplanisworking says:

    Night Barb. :)

  191. Lad 9 says:

Night Jandy. And hey Plan. Good evening.

  192. Eric Bowser says:

That was some of the slowest goaltending I’ve seen in a long time. No side-to-side push or quickness up and down. Everything was slow. You can’t play that bad… nerves would be first few minutes of a game… not a whole 60 minutes, so let’s stop that conversation right now.

That said… the team in front of him didn’t play all that well.

Defensemen were turning the puck over, not tying up their man around the net (Orpik, looking at you). I thought Crosby line was abysmal, which you can’t spell without having a Bylsma coaching your team.

    *Bad joke*

The power play was bad again… really tired seeing Crosby up high and on LW… they need a RH shooter on LW… how many times do I need to say this?!? Get Beau Bennett on the LW, put Malkin at right defense, Crosby down low, Martin left point, and Kunitz in front of net. If you don’t have a RH shooter for 1-timer option, teams won’t respect the left-side of the ice.

Only one game, let’s see what the team does against Tampa with a real goalie.

  193. Drew71 says:

I’m finally ready to take some notice of hockey and I check in for this clunker.

  194. Drew71 says:

Ah well. Tied at 2 in the 6th in the NLCS.

Trying to decide which team I dislike more.

Ok. I’m rooting for extra innings.

    And Leyland.

  195. theplanisworking says:

We are honored you dropped in from your SEC lovefest.

Hope you are doing well, Drew.

  196. theplanisworking says:

    Well said.

These problems have been obvious the past few seasons.
Why cant anyone fix this? Stubbornness?

    See you tomorrow night.
Always good to read your analysis, Eric.

  197. Drew71 says:

I’m no Pucknutz but I enjoy hockey. Especially live.

I don’t usually do so until after the holidays but the Pirates put me in such a Happy Homer mood I thought I’d check in for an early game.

So it’s my fault. I jinxed em.

  198. theplanisworking says:

    No you didnt.

We can blame DK, or me.
Always nice to see you, and enjoy your wit.

    Good night, Unjinxed Drew.

  199. Drew71 says:

And it was carried on local cable down here.

Looked like the cats were flying on ice and the Pens ice had melted under them.

  200. Drew71 says:

    Did Dejan make another prediction?

    Will he never learn?

  201. Jandy says:

I thought the joke was funny….lol

  202. Jandy says:

Indeed you got that observation right….the Pens looked horrible.

  203. SheckyW says:

Couldn’t watch the game too closely, had to do that durn parenting thing (and throw up from the camera work). Penguins defensive discipline lasted 3 games, not bad. Zatkoff is an AHL goalie. Shero is going to have an interesting couple of weeks. On a positive note, it is comforting to know that, when faced with an underperforming goalie, the Pens can still play as they did in the 2012 Flyers series.

Bad hockey is better than no hockey!
    Shecky.

  204. hockeymonster says:

Anyone have Jose Theodore on speed dial?

  205. Jandy says:

A shout out to 21sthebest. Tomorrow is his birthday. Have a good one :)
