  1. Dejan Kovacevic:
“Fleury will have two weeks and change to rest up and recover in February. Don’t want to sound mean here, but he can have the greatest regular season in the world, and Team Canada won’t be taking him to Sochi after his recent performances in the playoffs. Too big a risk.”

Then why should the Pens believe in him?

    • They have no choice but to believe in him.

      • M. A. Fleury was a virtual one man show in the September opener as he won his 250th, a shutout. And then, he had 37 saves in last night’s rout of the Blue Jackets. And so, with the rookie Jeff Tagdef sustaining two of the Pens’ 4 losses without a win, who else do they have?

  2. Reason #2 why this Patrick Roy thing will never ever work.

IMO Colorado really strengthened themselves by stealing Talbot from the Flyers

You had to know Wandy would pick up his option.

Liked what I heard about the PBC tendering AJ, its a gamble, but what isn’t when you throw around monopoly money?

    • Biz, I hope day 1 of retirement was a good one! :)

I had someone check in from Mt. Joy the other day. Don’t know if you saw it?

  4. Anyone see that Max Talbot was traded to the Avs yesterday?

  5. Wonder if the Pens are spent a bit after the masterpiece the other night ?

  6. Can someone please explain the +/- to me please?

Is it better to be is better to be positive or negative. I assume positive.

  7. Friday night. Probably no Jandy until the Shelby gets waxed.

Barb, Sarah and the crew should be in shortly.

Time to break out the 1-3-1 chants.

    BTW, Eric. What is Sid’s +/- ?

I’ll bet it’s not as high as his BABIP

  8. 63.9% of Malkin’s 5on5 shifts are in the offensive zone… Crosby’s 47.9%

  9. What the… a PP goal.

Malkin along way to allow Sid to win his own faceoff, puck back to Martin at the point and Kunitz deflects the shot behind Bobrovsky.

  10. Since it is stats night….

Matt Niskanen 7th among NHL defenseman with 14 team goals scored while 5on5.

  11. Fleury….. star performance in 1st

  12. GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Of course….. now Sutter is on fire….. I have a way with criticism….

  14. holy smokes…. another PP goal.

  15. Megna!!! The rout is on!!!

  16. 3 goals in 4:24…when’s the last time that happened for us???

  17. Megna! Amazing what a right handed shot on a team can do on the left side. Although that net was wide open.

  18. Fleury… Fleury… Fleury…

  19. Ugh Letang. So much for the donut.

  20. Niskie getting frisky!

  21. I don’t know how this is but Pens getting outplayed and lead 4-1

  22. Geno…Finally :)

  23. It’s 7-0 in Philly and Emery left the net to beat on Holtby. Good lord the Flyers suck.

  24. Thank Fleury… Pens didn’t really manage the puck all that good.

  25. Eric I was just catching up and I read about Perry. Had the exact same thing happen with my son although I am pretty sure mine was older than yours. No one could figure it out until I took him to a GI doc at the Cleveland Clinic and they diagnosed something called Rumination Syndrome. Would be happy to talk with you about it. My email is

  26. The Flower does look much “calmer” or “quiet” as Jay C says.
Maybe that shrink stuff works! lol

  27. Just watched video of it and what an embarrassment in Philly. Shanny gonna be busy with that one. They just don’t get in Philly. My guy Coatesey (#sarcasm), was saying how this will light a fire under them and how this was all for the next game. Ugh.

Some of us primates have evolved to realize that quality hockey players, and not thuggery, is what is needed to “light the fire.”

    • 1975 Forever!!!!!

    • I find two men fighting inspiring. A man standing up for himself, for his teammates, for his team. The whole thing is liberating. Socialists hate two men fighting. Men with the sense to fight, fight tyranny. It’s the most evolved that human beings can get. People who seek to dull a man’s sense to fight are satanic.

      • I have no problem with boxing or MMA as that’s the point of the sport to fight the other man but fighting has absolutely nothing to do with scoring a goal, making a legal check, floating a pass, or making a save.

We’re on total opposite ends of the spectrum on this one.

I think Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren went to his team lockerroom after second period and more or less demanded his players to go out there in the third period and make the Capitals pay with their fists.

Sad that teams keep pushing Steve Downie to be the on the fringe lunatic and last night, he paid the price with a hard left by Aaron Volpatti to his left eye socket that resulted him being transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

Downie can play the game, if teams would just recognize it and work on his on the fringe stupidity like the Pens did with Matt Cooke, I think he could be reformed into a quality second line right wing.

      • Hey 22:

Good to see you. You have always been very consistent with your position on this. Can’t say I agree with a single thing you said, but I can appreciate hyperbole to make a point.

Oh, and I am a huge boxing fan. Follow it religiously.

    • It’s the signature Philly move. They and their fans are happier thinking they are the toughest team around than actually winning. Sounds crazy, but I think that might be true. Been watching it for over 35 years.

      • The Flyers know that they’re a mess and that fighting’s the only way they can stick it to their rivals. And so, until the NHL actually gets around to outlawing the practice, well, we will all continue to expect this from time to time.

  28. I hate hockey interlopers.

There are some fights you can’t run away from. When one is RSVP’d in your name you have two choices fight and do your best or turtle like a coward. Holtby finished better than he started once his instincts kicked in. Assault, my ass.

  29. Sending out an APB for Bob Hasis. I’ve got the TJ game next week.

  30. Pitt beat Slippery Rock 96-60 in exhibition hoops last night. Take that, Matt Adams!

  31. I know I’m a little late to the party on this but I just now saw the video of The Flyers being the Flyers.

First & foremost, the NHL needs to make Ray Emery pee in a cup immediately. And I’m not for one second kidding about that.

Secondly, about the Flyers. You can talk about Paul Holmgren & Craig Berube all you want, but who keeps hiring these slugs ? Ed Snider obviously wants this. He’s had plenty of opportunities over the years to make a clean break from the Flyers mentality & he never ever does. Every time he removes Bobby Clarke he replaces him with Holmgren and vice versa. Over and over again, same thing for 30 years. And the end result ? Embarrassing incidents like this and no Stanley Cups.

As a Penguins fan I hope Snider never changes. But who am I to tell him how to run his business ? :)

    • 100% agreed. Snider has a history of being a bully, and an ass. In all aspects of his life. That, more than anything, is the reason things wont ever change. This year may be a Washington Capitals 1973 type of year for them.

Do you have time for a quick report about last night’s game before I have to go?

      • It was a great game, especially from my perspective. Highlands did a great job limiting Hooker (he’s going to The Ohio State University). He only touched the ball 4 times, 2 catches & 1 TD. New Castle led 6-0 but Highlands scored on their next possession & led the whole way. They had to hold off a furious New Castle rally at the end to win 24-19. As far as the crowd goes we estimated New Castle brought about 200 people. Kinda disappointing we thought.

        • Wow. Sounds like it was good. Very disappointed in the turnout. State basketball semis against Lower Merion, there were over 1500 fans that made the trip over to Williamsport.

Thanks for the update. You are truly the voice of the voiceless. :)

    • The Flyers have won only 2 lousy games so far and are dead last in their division and are going nowhere fast, having lost 7-0 to the Washington Capitals last night. They fired their coach but that’s done nothing for them, nor is it about to, apparently, so it’s best not to dwell on that mess of a hockey team this season.

  32. You have all, naturally, heard by this time about Pascual Dupuis pulling out his tooth during the Pens/Bruins game and that Pascual has since said that this was overblown since such injuries are all too common in hockey and the odds of losing teeth in games is greater than in other sports and there’s nothing much that can be done about that, although you wish it could be different.

  33. If you haven’t seen it yet, DK wrote a special Saturday column about Bettman and
the most recent events…Scott, Varlomov and last night in Philly. Good stuff!!!
