  1. That horrible Navy team giving ND all they can handle in South Bend.

  2. Lets go Pitt!

    • Yeah, my alma mater is going alright……… south.
I hope Chryst gets this program righted in the next 2 years.
He needs major talent, ………… can he recruit it?

      • I hope so my friend. I like everything about him so far, with the exception of his recruiting. I am hopeful though. I really think Pitt has the right guy, but he ends to upgrade the talent.

  3. I saw that. Let em come. We’ll dunk them in the pond. :)

  4. That’s more like it! Tyler Boyd caps off what might be the Panthers best drive of the year. Lets go!

  5. Best drive of the game for the Panthers gets them right back in the game. I think the item I am most intrigued by in the second half is whether or not it appears Chryst can make the necessary in game adjustments. The young line had a lot of problems in the opening half with the GT pass rush, needs to get cleaned up.

Defensively this squad has made marked improvement from early in the season, going to also need them to come up with a big play or two if Panthers are to have shot at road win tonight.

    • Needed to capitalize on that last fumble and didn’t. Dorian Johnson struggling in his first start.

      • Yeah he is having a rough go of it, needs to be quicker out of his break as the end is just speed rushing past him. Really should have been a redshirt but state of team thrusts him into this role with injuries team has up front. He will be a good one though by time he leaves.

Difficulty running ball really puts game on Savage, gulp.

  6. Aaron Donald: one man wrecking crew.

  7. Well, that is the ballgame.
Good effort tonight, just cant seem to get it done.
If Chryst can get more talent in the program, these games will be winnable in the future.

    • I was surprised how well the defense played tonight, although that was mostly due to a herculean effort by Donald. What’s really disconcerting is the continued decline of Savage, the O-line, and the offense in general. The play calling in the 1st half was atrocious. They have 2 elite playmakers at WR and some really good receiving TE’s as well, but there seems to be no real effort to get them the ball. A lot of that is on the O-line’s complete failure in running and passing situations. Another part of that is Savage’s channeling his inner “Tino” and freezing anytime there’s a decent pass rush. However, a really good offensive schemer can find a way to get talented WR’s the ball, especially when he has a QB with an NFL caliber arm. I’m not expecting a Duke-like effort every game, but 2 or 3 TD’s in a game would be nice.

This is the reason I’m starting to turn sour on Chryst. Yes, there a lack of talent in some areas and Chryst should be given the opportunity to bring in more players of his liking. However, he was supposed to be an offensive specialist and I’ve seen the offense regress this year, even with some nice pieces. That’s a red flag. He deserves another couple of years to see if he can get this team on track, but I’m not as optimistic as I once was in his abilities.

      DK: Great post, Walt. Really.

      • The offensive line poses a grave challenge for this offense, but I do agree with the thought that the strength of this offense is having guys like Street, Boyd, Holtz, Orndorff and too would like to see some creativity or better planning to get them the ball and try to create mismatches.

Defense has really come together and has played well enough to give team a chance to win, but offense seems to be fighting for an identity of sorts.

      • Chryst needs 2 more years, unless he totally regresses next year.
The mess he inherited was HUGE.

But if he doesnt upgrade the talent next year…….. maybe time to look again.
Question is, who could they get? Pitt isnt a destination like USC………

  8. Another winnable game for the Panthers but tonight much like the Va Tech game, Savage was harassed and under pressure all night. Amazing with the lack of talent and with just how young this team is that, Pitt has been in each game this season sans the FSU blowout.

Hope Chryst has the ability to bring in more players and more talent as he does seem to get effort and about all he can out of kids.

Also maybe time to give Voytik some playing time to see what you have in him as Pitt truly hasn’t had a really good QB since…..Van Pelt? Palko was a gamer not sure he had exceptional talent.

    • Thinking the same thing about Voytik…

DK: I don’t think much at all of Voytik. Another small-ish guy.

    • All you need to know about Voytik, is he couldnt win the job in camp.
I dont think he is the answer.

    • I agree about Voytik, if we’re only looking to the future. However, the reality is that Pitt wants to get to the best bowl game possible because it’s a moneymaker. Savage probably gives them the best chance at this. You could make an argument that starting Voytik now might give them a chance at a better bowl game next year, but that’s a more difficult argument to make.

Pretty disappointing showing from Dorian Johnson, but not unexpected, considering he hadn’t been able to beat out any of the other horrible o-linemen up to this point. I guess he deserves a partial pass, since he’s a true freshman, but I was hoping for better from someone that highly rated.

  9. Couldn’t handle the pass rush from the edge and two big plays – the fake punt and the bomb to set up the last touchdown – killed them. This was a winnable game. Very disappointing.

    • Yep, really wanting to see this team take a step forward and provide some hope for the future, but other than some exciting individuals ie Boyd, haven’t seen Pitt do that yet this season.

Team really needs a signature win – next week versus ND would be nice, some momentum, some life, some something.

The only thing this team has gained this season is some stability, but I want more than that.
