  2. Hey Biz, Howz that retirement going? I’m in my eighth month of my 5th retirement. Haven’t decided what career #6 will be.

    Stuart

  3. Once again, no Steelers game on TV here in Cincy area.

    Browns vrs Ravens instead.

  4. San Diego.

  5. If San Diego losses, the second wild card team has 4 losses.

  6. Philip Rivers ‘Tails never fails’

    Jerome Boger ‘Heads’

  7. Awful play calling by San Diego at the end of regulation. They lose in OT.

    AFC Second wild card
    5-4 New York Jets
    4-4 Miami
    4-4 Tennessee
    4-4 San Diego
    3-4 Baltimore
    3-4 Oakland
    3-5 Cleveland
    2-5 Pittsburgh
    2-5 Houston

  8. Nevermind the Steelers can’t get out of their own way. What a clown show.

  9. Strip sack lovely…..

  10. We better be going with the man to man today

  11. Gotta love the NFL TV rules.
Local station that carries all Steeler games……… nope. Carrying Clowns-Ratbirds.
Philly station I use as a backup……… stayed with Skins game.

    Just got the game.
    Missed the fumble. What else?

  12. They are saying the worst rushing nbrs since 1936…..can that be true??

  13. The Eagles with 158 yards in the first quarter at Oakland.

The Browns score a TD on 4th and Goal against Baltimore.

  14. I see Ryan Clark is so smart, he’s figured out how to NOT cover Gronkowski.

  15. Good God really?

  16. Sigh.

  17. That is what a real offense looks like.

  18. Ben’s been awful all year. I’m watching all these teams we need to lose and it doesn’t even matter because our future hall of famer can’t play clean ball.

  19. 8 Int, 5 fumbles lost, 27 sacks in 7 1/4 games.

  20. DO NOT… seriously, DO NOT blame Ben on that INT.

Watch replay… he had Brown at WR and Miller at TE as his only pass options.

Miller was double covered in middle by LB and S, while Brown was only other option.

This team…. can’t even execute a simple quick out or quick slant.

  21. La’Veon Bell, if he stays healthy, provides hope for the future.

  22. I see the script called for Ben to drop the ball and also underthrow by 10 yards out of endzone. This isn’t meant to single out ben or shield Haley, but when the line can’t pass block and players don’t make plays……..so many areas in need of improvement!

  23. There is no ingenuity in this offense whatsoever. Who didn’t know that the Steelers would run the ball straight up the middle there?

  24. THEY CALLED A TIMEOUT FOR THAT PLAY CALL??????

    CLOCK MANAGEMENT TOMLIN, CLOCK MANAGEMENT!

  25. In what universe did the Steelers think a line plunge up the gut would get them the first down. ? I doubt a soul in either Commonwealth did not know that was coming.

  26. Wow. The Pats looked good on that drive. Steelers bit on every play action in the sequence.

  27. This game could end up 56-0….seriously……

  28. Ya know….some of these personal foul calls are a disgrace. Saw several today lie that or even less. Players have been broken in this regard, they just seemed resigned to accepting the fact that there will be bad calls like that

  29. OMG! No huddle!

  30. Nice deep throw by Ben…

  31. Geez….the Steelers look reallyl awful. Offsense…well, Sanders just had a nice play, but that’s about it…

Nobody can handle Gronk and what’s up with the penalty on Troy? Unnecessary roughness? Why? The answer of Simms and Nantz was lame…he hit him in the shoulder and was making a play…they said he launched?

    2-7 here we come.

    Take care all…

    Randy in RVA.

  32. Gotta get a TD here. FG just won’t cut it.

  33. This team is poorly talented, poorly prepared and poorly coached…

  34. A FG, but don’t see how the Steelers defense can stop the Pats offense. Not the way they are playing right now. No answer for Gronkowski.

  35. I just cannot believe that the Rooney’s are just going to sit idle this offseason and let things stay the same. This team is totally lost…

  36. Can we just triple team Gronkowski?

  37. Why was no Steeler defender within 30 yards of Amendola?

  38. Oh geez…Amendola running free again…

    Yuck.

  39. Seen bad Steelers team before, but don’t recall a defense this bad.

  40. Nice play by Heyward…

  41. I love Troy, but he looks lost out there right now…

  42. What happened with “we are going to get tough with Gronkowski”???How can anyone watch this team and say they are not ill prepared to play???

  43. Dwyer is a better runner than Tomlin’s new hero–Bell.

  44. Well, that’s better. Nice play for the TD. Let’s see if the D can come up with a stop…

  45. This team is so painful to watch right now…

  46. Good teams respond with points. New England is a good team.

  47. And the Rooney’s will just sit idly by this offseason…

  48. Holy Cow is this bad or what…too many penalties extending drives for the Pats…

    What a mess…

    Randy

  49. Um.. Nick Foles has 6 TD passes with 11:30 left in the 3rd quarter

  50. Steelers need to blow it up in the offseason and start over..

  51. Bout time Troy…

  52. The worst team ever is only down by a td.

  53. Foles now with 7 TD’s…

  54. Foles is doing his Drew Brees impersonation like he did in HS…

  55. The worst team ever just tied the game.

  56. This second half……………… why couldnt we see this offense anytime previously this year?

    Amazing comeback!!!

  57. Showing some fight!

  58. Well, the world’s worst team jut tied it up…how about that…

Let’s see if that sofff Steelers D can stop Brady…

    Time to eat…back later on.

    R.

  59. Haven’t had a chance to watch much since mid-2nd quarter…. how the heck is this game tied right now?

  60. The defense cannot stop a matchbox car.

  61. Bout time Worilds showed up….

  62. Gronkowski injured…

  63. Bell finding some running room 2nd half and Cotchery making plays…

  64. Sanders…..seriously????

  65. Cray cray game!

  66. and then they stop making plays…..Bell wrong way, Sanders drops, Ben overthrows

  67. Can we get a real punter please??

    • Sure. They’ll even waste a top round draft pick to get one. Oh wait a minute, already tried that. Another Colbert fail.

Geee, and another Patriots score too…How Gay.

  68. Ben misses a wide open Miller. Leads to a punt and now Pats in position to go up 10.

  69. Williams is in Cleveland

  70. Ben missing the open receiver on third down in that last Steeler possession is looming big now.

  71. Brady has made every throw in key situations. Ben has not. But it’s not like the defense has been stout. Far from it. Just not a good team.

  72. Another Steeler defender taking the brunt of a hit…this defense used to be physical…

  73. About time to queue the Steelers turnover to officially take them out of the game.

Tomlin “obviously” not pleased with the results, but we’ll “take it” and move on. lol

Eagles routing the Raiders in Oakland. 7 TD passes from Foles before the 4th quarter. That tells you how bad this Steelers team really is…but it’s probably even worse than that.

  74. Maybe I should quit watching. I left to change my faucet in the kitchen sink and the Steelers tied it up. Returned and back to el stinko. lol

    Turning off now….

    • Sounds fun. I was unclogging a jammed up garbage disposal myself. Not something to get excited about, but more pleased with the results than this game. It’s amazing how much more you can get done around the house when the Steelers suk. At this rate, I’ll have that addition to the house I’ve been thinking about done by the end of the season…heck, I could build a new house by myself by 2016 thanks to the Steelers, cause they won’t be any better by then either.

Maybe that’s why Pittsburgh was able to go through that first renaissance in the 80′s. No football to preoccupy everyone’s minds.

  75. Oh well…decent effort today, but just not good enough…

  76. Still see a top 5 pick for this team coming…

  77. Heyward one of the few defensive players to actually play well today.

  78. Game over…

  79. Good Night, everyone.
    Be safe.

  80. 500 yds allowed today….wow…

  81. Time for Lebeau to retire too…

    • Time for him to go sit under a palm tree. No reason to waste his time left on this earth trying to do anything with such a depleted talent pool. Even a good coach/coordinator needs players to be anything but a failure and that won’t be happening any time soon.

Which is why sticking with Tomlin makes equally no sense. This team is years away from being relevant again and when they eventually are, Ben won’t be the QB and Tomlin won’t be the HC. The faster they realize this and move on, the better for everyone. Time for the Rooneys to hit restart button and stop being delusional about this situation. They have more holes than a good block of Swiss cheese and its only getting moldy and stinkier.

  82. Back to calling for this team’s execution.

  83. Wow. Go and eat dinner with my kids and come back to 17 NE unanswered…as Myron would say Yoi and Double Yoi!

Kiddos are watching a show before bed and I must say their choice is much more enjoyable than watching the Steelers!

    Night all.

    Take care,
    Randy in RVA.

  84. Kudos to Cotchery today…

  85. I will lay the majority of the blame for this game on the defense…

  86. I had to listen to the game on the computer. I know that all home team annoucers are homers; however, for one of the Steelers annoucers to say the play of the Steelers defense was “outstanding” is delusional….

  87. 600 yds??? Really????

  88. Mr Rooney are you embarrassed yet?

  89. An old, slow team living in the past. Right now that is the standard.

  90. This team should be embarrassed….

  91. No sense throwing it away Ben. Just get sacked.

  92. Dwyer looks like one of the few Steelers with a pulse…

  93. Way to run the wrong route Antonio….

  94. The defense can’t even stop a running play when they know the team is going to run. Never seen a Steelers team give up before, until now.

  95. This is painful. Well, we still have 87 and company skating, and pitchers and catchers report in 100 days. …..

  96. Jeebus…..never have I seen a Steeler defense just flat out give up…

  97. First time I’ve ever said this in my 61 years. The Steelers quit. They are a bunch of pathetic losers.

  98. I don’t generally care for Phil simms, but he just spoke the truth!

  99. Ziggy Hood ……See you later…Bye Bye

  100. This team I believe has quit on Tomlin…

  101. Why would you send Ben back out? Stupid…

  102. If the Rooney’s are not thoroughly embarrassed by this performance, then there is no hope…

  103. Good night and go Pens!

  104. 55 points allowed….. > 600 yards given up….by the Steelers defense.
    .
NEVER thought I would see the day!
    .
    Disappointing.
    .
    Disgusting.
    .
    Embarrassing.
    .
    Horrible, just HORRIBLE !!!!
    .
    :-(

  105. How do you not scrap everything and start over at the end of the season? I’m talking Colbert, Tomlin, Haley and yes, even the Legendary Dick LeBeau. They all have to go. Plus, whichever scouts have the most influence on our drafts the last few years. Oh, and all the coaches and staff who were hired solely on the basis of where they were raised.

    Defensively, we cannot:

    a) Stop the run
    b) Defend the pass
    c) Pressure the opposing QB
    d) Cause turnovers
    e) Avoid stupid, costly penalties

Looked like Cameron Hayward was trying. That’s about it.

    Offensively, we cannot:

    a) Rush the ball consistently, although NE allows everyone to run
    b) Catch the ball consistently
    c) Avoid careless management of the ball by the QB
    d) Avoid costly, drive-killing penalties
    e) Protect the QB

I thought Bell played hard and Cotchery made some plays.

Who is Coach Soundbyte going to blame this week?

    • I lay this one squarely on the defense…even with the offense’s mistakes, 31 pts should be enough to win a football game…

      • Yeah, but New England has a horrible defense. The offense looked sharp right in the middle of the game. I agree with that. But, then when the game was 27-24, a ball went right through Sanders’ hands followed by Ben missing a wide open Heath in the middle of the field. After that, we were a mess again the rest of the way.

At one point, they showed a graphic that we started 6 drives in NE territory. That was barely past halftime. We could have scored even more. But, I get your point that the defense was JV all the way tonight.

  106. Most pts and yds ever given up by the Steelers…

    • Wasn’t it just a few years ago when we went an entire season with 0 or 1 300 yd game allowed? 600+ tonight is just embarrassing. It is lack of effort, lack of talent, poor coaching all converging at once.

      • This team has quit on Tomlin…

      • It’s all of the above. And that’s when you know this is a bigger problem than the glass half-fuller’s would like you to believe. This isn’t the occasional “stick a fork in them, they’re done for the season” team you will have from time to time. This is the it’s over for this era of Steelers football time and don’t get to upset if you find yourself doing meaningful things on Sunday for the next few years. Everyone knew this could happen eventually and it is upon us now.

An unfortunate combination of bad luck and mismanagement turned this team into what you see know (blamed to be shared everywhere), it happens even with the best of organizations (Outside of New England it seems) and we can only hope the Rooney’s act fast and make the right decisions to get things back on track before it becomes the acceptable norm and what we refer to 5 to 10 years from now as “Steelers football”.

  107. I didn’t think my anger could reach this height. I could coach and motivate these guys to play much better than any one of these pathetic excuses of leadership. I’ve never felt this way as the huge fan that I am. Evaluators of talent: pathetic. Coaches, including Tomlin, need to be fired. Wholesale player changes, effective immediately, including Polamalu, Sanders, and Woodley.
Oh yeah, u see what a depleted Eagle team with a new coach and backup QB hung on the Raiders in Oakland today, in Oakland??
Steelers are a joke, and I hang it on Colbert, Tomlin, Hailey, and LeBeau. Never seen a Steeler team so ‘not ready’ to play football each week.

  108. But wait everyone…there’s at least 4-5 more years of this and that’s “if” the Rooney’s get a clue and realize it’s officially rebuild time and clean house from top to bottom. If they don’t, I suggest everyone examine the 80′s teams. Sometimes the Rooney’s stubbornness to change and obliviousness to need to can be a bad thing too. But that’s ok, well forget that happened…like most do.

Sorry, but I’ll trade watching Troy intercept a Steelers pass for the Ravens, or watching Ben get sacked for another team, if that’s what it takes to get this team back to respectability, before I’m lamenting the good ‘ol days of when the Steelers were a good team again from my hospice care rocking chair and drooling Fiber One and prune juice out of my old, cracked Jack Lambert Eat’n Park glass.

Time for the Rooney’s and everyone who sees a quick fix to this problem – with their “they’ll turn it around next season attitude” – to put on the big boy pants and realize it’s over with this era of Steelers football and work hard to forge a new one. Nothing worthwhile comes without sacrifice. It’s either that, or they can sit back and be ok with ultimate failure, sprinkled with occasional moments of mediocrity and false hope for the next decade or two…hence; they can be the Jets or Bengals. I’d rather they not.

  109. Even Tom Bradley (the ultimate Steelers apologist) sez on the Steelers post game show on 970AM….that the Steelers “quit” at the end of the game, today.

  110. Wow.

I just got the kiddos tucked in and had DVR’d the rest in case I “missed” anything. Looks like a “missed” an epic showing by our defense. Sure looks like it from the score in the 4th…debacle is the word that comes to mind.

What a mess this has become and I’ll admit, I didn’t think it was as bad as it now appears to be…I think SJB’s point above is a vaild one…I was a kid when those rough years in the mid 80s occurred (Brister and Walton anyone) so I sorta forget how bad some of those teams were…

Really would hate a sustained run of that, but do seem some of that coming if they don’t make some dramatic changes. I’d start with the two coordinators at a minimum and look outside the organ-i-zation for replacements. Great that Haley was a ball boy for the team when he was a kid, but doen’t mean boo now. Coach LeBeau, it’s time to get on with your life’s work. You have been a great assest to the team, but the time has come. The Defense is just outright ineffective now. No turnovers, no QB pressure, etc.

Tomlin, well, I would give him a chance to get things righted, but I think if we have a 3rd year of poor execution, it’s time to move on there as well.

It also seems that Art II doesn’t quite have the same football acumen as his Dad…would prefer if he stayed out of the footbal decisions (Run more, Haley, etc) but unfortunately, maybe he prefers to be more involved a la Jerry in Dallas and Dan in DC…that is a bad thing IMO.

Quite the long post for me, but this is the place to do it I suppose…plus there is no one here at my house that really would listen anyway other than my dog and she’s asleep right now too!

    Hang in there folks!

    Randy in RVA.

    • “Coach LeBeau, it’s time to get on with your life’s work.”
He’s 72. This has been his life’s work. He was good at it. But he’s been passed by. Now it’s time for him to enjoy the sunset of his life.

  111. Another few more games like todays and you have to wonder if Dejan’s comments that Colbert and Tomlin are safe are going to be really true. It’s hard to keep the coach of a team that just had his team completely quit like this team did today.

The only guy who actually looked like he tried on D was Heyward. Troy I love the dude, but he can’t cover anyone anymore. Clark is horrid (Thomas isn’t any better). The entire defense looked terrible today. Offensively their offensive tackles are garbage, and they don’t have the speed to make any big plays. Haley should’ve been fired 2-3 weeks ago.

  112. I’m should just copy and paste my comment from the Haley and LeBeau column. Lose Haley if you must. But the LeBeau era must be brought to a close. Blow up the defense and rebuild it. Rebuild it as a 4-3. It will take time, but time is what we have. The talent is not there and neither is a scheme fit for the 2013 NFL.

  113. The first time an athlete needs a coach to get them up for a game should be the last time an athlete plays sports. Played a lot of sports, never once needed a coach to get my adrelaline flowing. (Would’ve liked to been in the locker room when Herb Brooks gave his “Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world” speech. Gotta admit, that would’ve cranked it up a gear or two.) Prepared, sure. But amped and ready to go, not once. And who in the hell says they need that? If that is a players cop-out, then get rid of the player.

Did Steve McLendon and Jarvis Jones play today?

The worst call was not playing Jonathan Dwyer more often. I thought he was going to take a knee in the middle of his long run.

It’s too bad the Steelers don’t have you as a coach and GM. But then we’d miss out on a gem of a column such as this.

DK: I’d never have come up with the knee in the middle of the run. Better than all the tired tap-out jokes. Creativity rules.

  114. 1:53 Corner, “We were in the European Cup and after we drew in Belgrade, I used to speak to my fiancé from Swansea on the phone and that used to get me away from football. “I had a funny feeling about the penalties and I was thinking about them this afternoon. Being in another final is a miracle. “There are two ways Gordon Strachan can look at the friendly. Germany Coach: Joachim Low Word ranking: 2 Group seeding: 1 Post-war record against Scotland: W3 D2 L2 Key players: They boast a host of stars from European champions Bayern Munich – including captain Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer, Hyde FC. Robert Ramshaw tries a through ball, Falkirk.
