Dejan, I hope these posts are not ticking you off in any way

  2. Feeling Wild about the Pens chances tonight!

  3. Dejan,

This is from somebody named Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy:

“Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press took time out of his busy schedule of ripping Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien while staunchly defending the worst starting goaltender in the league from all criticism to report that the league is going to consider a ten game ban for all goalies who leave their defensive zone.”

Some racial overtones there that Gary might want to know about.

  4. Milbury and Co actually had nice things to say about Sid…..
    Hmmmm….

    • Maybe they finally realize they will elevate their own profiles if the NHL is higher in the U.S. public’s sports consciousness.

  5. Sorry to break into the Pens thread but Alvarez and McCutchen won silver slugger awards this evening

  6. Pens… Rangers… Madison Square Garden….

    Let’s Go Pens!

  7. We got Dom, Pucks, Eric, Milo, Oshie…….

all we need is sarah, jandy, hockeymonster………….

    Lets Go Pens !!

  8. Hank looks like he is on tonight.

And that lighting is so much better at the Garden. :)

  9. Pens are flying but no goals… need to get one behind King Henrik.

  10. Maya Rudolph with the Christmas campaign for Best Buy.

  11. Late to the party. Good evening Romper Room!

  12. If Pens get one, the dam is going to burst.

  13. Big save by Fleury

  14. Crosby, Dupuis and Adams…

  15. Well Eric, you were right about that floodgates thing.

  16. Now 2-0! Who do you go to when/if Fleury doesn’t have it?

  17. Dam burst…. wrong direction…

  18. Pens need to call timeout here to regroup.
    They are getting played.

  19. One of the guys from Florida Georgia Line is a dead ringer for a 20 something AJ Burnett.

  20. Malkin fails to cover his man and Letang playing offense while the other team has the puck. 2 – zip.

With Lundquist in net, needing three goals is like climbing Everest.

  21. Does anyone besides Wendell August sell Pittsburgh Penguin merchandise that is made from the Civic Arena roof?

  22. Two questions.

    1. When did Rich Renteria become Rick Renteria ?
    2. And what exactly are the Cubs thinking ?

    OK. Back to hockey.

    • It’s a really odd decision for a marquis franchise. I’ve listened to a lot of Chicago radio and the fans are fed up. Theo is going to earn his salary just preaching patience to a riled fan base. Seems likely they will trade Jeff Samardzija as well.

  23. Have the Pens recorded a hit in this entire game?

  24. Boy, they’re paying Geno an awful lot of money to do absolutely nothing.

  25. This one looks over.

  26. This team looks lost tonight.
Not to be critical or anything………….

  27. Can this be the last we see of Dustin Jeffrey ?

  28. WOOT !!!!

  29. Somewhere, Jandy is swooning.

  30. I need to check with Mike Tomlin on this one, but effort has been lacking in certain areas tonight.

  31. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, and in spite of his goal, I pose this question to Kris Letang:

Must you always settle the puck on the PP before you let loose a shot off a pass?

He leaves 8-10 goals a year on his blade because he needs to have the puck perfectly positioned on a 2″ square area of his stick before he shoots. Someone needs to hand him the Steven Stamkos video.

    • All he has to do is watch Sid

      • On the one-timer on the PP, I put Stamkos #1 and Sid and Ovie tied at #2, but Letang could certainly learn something from all three.

Coaching would honestly help Letang here, if the coaches ever took the time and Letang was willing to learn, the second aspect perhaps being more the issue.

    • For every good play Letang makes on the PP, he makes 2 bad plays. He has every skill necessary to be a great PP player, but has never clicked in that role.

      • One huge skill Letang does not possess on the PP is entering the zone. He’s a butcher.

He learned little watching Steve Sullivan, who was one of the best at understanding time and spacing. One reason I want to see Derrick Pouliot here as soon as he is ready . . . if not sooner.

    • I honestly think it’s just indecisive/brain cramp stuff with Letang. His hockey IQ is low on the PP.

Like Martin much better. Crisp with puck, into good lanes, low shots get deflections and rebounds.

      • I’m a Letang fan, but I agree with you here.

      • Sarah: If we’re focused on Letang’s inability on the PP to let loose a one-timer off a pass, I don’t think it is indecision at all. He just has the unnerving habit of always wanting the puck perfectly positioned on his blade before he does anything with it (perfectionist?).

It is very rare to see him striding into a pass, timing the puck coming across the ice and letting it rip on goal. So rare that I cannot remember the last time he did it. Some portion may have to do with his low shot %’s in his early years, consistently missing the net by very wide margins.

If there are two areas Letang could improve on the PP, this would be one big one. The other would be consistently entering the zone CLEANLY. On the latter, he needs to think small strides to open areas of the ice and then patience . . . a la Steve Sullivan.

        • I guess I don’t argue that he is maddening in his inabilty/reluctance to simply one-time the thing. Agree there.

I just think in many other ways he lacks decisiveness up there, and moving the puck quickly into lanes a la Sarge to Geno is so important. Moving quickly is most important and I think Martin’s better at it.

Totally agree on entering the zone, esp re Sully. My goodness he made it looks easy didn’t he??
And he was great on faceoffs. Miss that guy.

          • Well, we’re in agreement.

Sarge had the ability to find the shooting lanes by the shuffling laterally along the blue line, head always up and puck comfortably on his stick and then letting loose the low, ice-hugging ones.

While Sarge was the master, you’re right about Martin doing that much better than Letang. It’s not even close and why I also prefer him QB-ing the PP over Letang.

From what I have seen of Pouliot so far, I’m excited about his PP abilities, but he’s probably one year away . . . Martin out when contract expires and then Pouliot in.

  32. All night long – trying to do things the easy, pretty way.

  33. Jeffrey quietly slips back on the ice & promptly picks up another minus. That’s -3 in only 9 shifts. has to be some sort of a record.

    Enough of this guy already.

  34. Disappointing effort after 3 days off.

  35. Now you see why I don’t believe in Dan Bylsma… why I question the leadership by the players. What an embarrassing period of play.

  36. OK. Now it’s time for Fleury to skate the length of the ice & beat the crap out of Lundquist.

  37. Dear Lord, these guys couldn’t score into an open net tonight…

    • Well, this is one of the 54………. wait, wrong sport.
Sometimes you are the penguin, sometimes you are dinner. ;)

Need a good laff, check your mail, Miss jandy.

      Everyone have a great night.
      Be safe.
      Be good.

      Fire Bylsma. ;)

  38. You are watching everything wrong with this team. Things didn’t go their way early, so they pouted and quit. Disgusting display.

  39. Would love to know our percentage tonight on face-offs.

And perhaps it’s my imagination, or maybe I haven’t been paying close enough attention, but it just seems Sid has not been doing well there the last few games, even more noticeable on the PP.

Then again, the stats may prove me wrong.

    • Sid 5 for 14 tonight (36%) in the offensive and defensive zones — where it matters most — but 50% overall because of his neutral zone %.
