I have seen some new peoples on the past week.

Hope retirement is treating you well.

  3. Plandy, you, Jandy and the crew hold down the 1-3-1 fort. I have church tonight.

I expect at least a 3-goal lead by the time I get home.

    8-)

  7. Wild Bill says:

Feeling Wild about the Pens chances tonight!

  8. Milo Hamilton says:

    Dejan,

This is from somebody named Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy:

“Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press took time out of his busy schedule of ripping Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien while staunchly defending the worst starting goaltender in the league from all criticism to report that the league is going to consider a ten game ban for all goalies who leave their defensive zone.”

Some racial overtones there that Gary might want to know about.

  9. theplanisworking says:

Nothing like closing the barn door after the horse got away, huh?

  10. Milo Hamilton says:

I guess the GM’s feel they need to do something to protect their players from the Commissioner’s lack of backbone.

  11. theplanisworking says:

    HA !!!

  12. Pucknutz says:

Milbury and Co actually had nice things to say about Sid…..
    Hmmmm….

  13. JAL says:

Sorry to break into the Pens thread but Alvarez and McCutchen won silver slugger awards this evening

  20. JohninOshkosh says:

Hank looks like he is on tonight.

And that lighting is so much better at the Garden. :)

  21. Eric Bowser says:

Pens are flying but no goals… need to get one behind King Henrik.

  22. theplanisworking says:

They spent a total of $500 million dollars over 3 years to upgrade the Garden.
    It better look good.

  23. Eric Bowser says:

    doing the dirty work…

    lol

  24. theplanisworking says:

Looks like they improved the lower bowl also.

  25. JohninOshkosh says:

Maya Rudolph with the Christmas campaign for Best Buy.

  26. JohninOshkosh says:

Not everyday you see Manhattan with an inferiority complex to Brooklyn but I think the Barclays Center sort of got them worrying.

  27. JohninOshkosh says:

Henrik has the ability, I think, to single handedly steal a Gold for the Swedes at Sochi.

  28. Brandie says:

Late to the party. Good evening Romper Room!

  29. Eric Bowser says:

If Pens get one, the dam is going to burst.

  30. Milo Hamilton says:

Can’t you just hear Don Pardo saying it ?

  31. Milo Hamilton says:

    Hey you wacky muppet you.

  32. theplanisworking says:

    Hi Muppet!
    How are you?

  33. Brandie says:

    Let’s hope so!

  34. Brandie says:

    My Man, Book ‘em, Plan-o!

Doing Dandy. Hope all is deliciously moist in the Pond.

  35. Brandie says:

    Meye-low! Good to see ewe!

  36. Dom says:

    Big save by Fleury

  37. theplanisworking says:

Well, so much for the blog’s “G” rating……..

  38. JohninOshkosh says:

    95 years young.

  39. Eric Bowser says:

    Crosby, Dupuis and Adams…

  40. Dom says:

    0-1 Bad guys

  41. Brandie says:

Moist like cake. Hippos like moist places!

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

Well Eric, you were right about that floodgates thing.

  43. Brandie says:

Now 2-0! Who do you go to when/if Fleury doesn’t have it?

  44. Eric Bowser says:

    Dam burst…. wrong direction…

  45. Eric Bowser says:

    I hate being right…. lol

  46. theplanisworking says:

Pens need to call timeout here to regroup.
    They are getting played.

  47. theplanisworking says:

    You’re not improving anything……….. ;)

  48. theplanisworking says:

    D’OH!

    Forgot period was almost over.

    F I R E M E !

  49. Milo Hamilton says:

One of the guys from Florida Georgia Line is a dead ringer for a 20 something AJ Burnett.

  50. Brandie says:

Maybe the Pens need Thor’s Mighty Hammer to get things done.

  51. Brandie says:

Get ur mind out of the gutter!

  52. theplanisworking says:

    Or DK’s strong StarYucks coffee…………

  53. theplanisworking says:

    Easy enough……..
    my Pond has no gutters.

    You’re welcome. ;)

  54. Wild Bill says:

Malkin fails to cover his man and Letang playing offense while the other team has the puck. 2 – zip.

With Lundquist in net, needing three goals is like climbing Everest.

  55. Brandie says:

    DK’s Bust A$$ Coffee…Has a 93 Octane Rating!

  56. Dom says:

Does anyone besides Wendell August sell Pittsburgh Penguin merchandise that is made from the Civic Arena roof?

  57. Brandie says:

Get ur climbing shoes and climbing gear in then.

  58. Wild Bill says:

    Like the attitude, Brandie.

  59. theplanisworking says:

She is our ray of sunshine !

  60. JohninOshkosh says:

I think George Mallory can be claimed off waivers.

  61. Milo Hamilton says:

    Two questions.

    1. When did Rich Renteria become Rick Renteria ?
    2. And what exactly are the Cubs thinking ?

    OK. Back to hockey.

  62. theplanisworking says:

I am currently watching the Sixers game between periods.

I am shocked the Sixers already have 3 wins.
Between Boston, Milwaukee, and Phoenix, we could see some really ugly ball this year.

  63. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, I’m watching the Bucks and Cavs. Michael Redd retired and the Bucks are honoring him. It will be a battle for the top draft pick, or should I say the top number of ping pong balls for the lottery.

  64. Wild Bill says:

Have the Pens recorded a hit in this entire game?

  65. Bizrow says:

Well, I guess if this was ticking DK off

    We would know?

  66. Bizrow says:

I do not know of anyone

  67. theplanisworking says:

Team with the worst record hasnt gotten the #1 pick in like 11 years.
But the Angel of Stern wont change anything…………

  68. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s a really odd decision for a marquis franchise. I’ve listened to a lot of Chicago radio and the fans are fed up. Theo is going to earn his salary just preaching patience to a riled fan base. Seems likely they will trade Jeff Samardzija as well.

  69. JohninOshkosh says:

I really want to believe that the NBA put the Knicks card in a freezer prior to the Patrick Ewing drawing. It’s been denied for years but it remains my favorite sport urban myth.

  70. theplanisworking says:

Why are you even worrying about this?
DK has said before he appreciates the work you and JAL do.
    Dont sweat it.

  71. theplanisworking says:

Dont forget the LeBron-Cleveland conspiracy also.
That was the last time the team with the worst record got the #1 pick.

  72. Dom says:

    Power Play!!!

  73. Milo Hamilton says:

Boy, they’re paying Geno an awful lot of money to do absolutely nothing.

  74. Dom says:

    This one looks over.

  75. theplanisworking says:

    This team looks lost tonight.
Not to be critical or anything………….

  76. Milo Hamilton says:

Can this be the last we see of Dustin Jeffrey ?

  77. Milo Hamilton says:

Minus 2 in 8 shifts. And directly responsible for both of those goals. Awesome.

  78. Jandy says:

Wrong team has that 3-0 lead…

  79. theplanisworking says:

    WOOT !!!!

  80. Jandy says:

    well, make that 3-1

  81. Jandy says:

    +++++

  82. Wild Bill says:

    Somewhere, Jandy is swooning.

  83. Jandy says:

    sweet!

  84. theplanisworking says:

    I Wooted too soon………….

  85. Jandy says:

    HUMP DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    :P :P :P

  86. Milo Hamilton says:

I need to check with Mike Tomlin on this one, but effort has been lacking in certain areas tonight.

  87. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  88. J Walter Weatherman says:

Yes, considering he was in Bylsma’s doghouse before and adding in his putrid performance tonight, he’s probably done.

  89. DJ says:

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, and in spite of his goal, I pose this question to Kris Letang:

Must you always settle the puck on the PP before you let loose a shot off a pass?

He leaves 8-10 goals a year on his blade because he needs to have the puck perfectly positioned on a 2″ square area of his stick before he shoots. Someone needs to hand him the Steven Stamkos video.

  90. Jandy says:

Impossible. The smartest hockey guy in here says Jeffrey is good.

  91. Jandy says:

    Jandy is really, really disgusted

  92. theplanisworking says:

    Obviously.

  93. Wild Bill says:

All night long – trying to do things the easy, pretty way.

  94. Jandy says:

All he has to do is watch Sid

  95. Milo Hamilton says:

Jeffrey quietly slips back on the ice & promptly picks up another minus. That’s -3 in only 9 shifts. has to be some sort of a record.

    Enough of this guy already.

  96. Milo Hamilton says:

    :)

  97. DJ says:

Maybe they finally realize they will elevate their own profiles if the NHL is higher in the U.S. public’s sports consciousness.

  98. J Walter Weatherman says:

Disappointing effort after 3 days off.

  99. Eric Bowser says:

Now you see why I don’t believe in Dan Bylsma… why I question the leadership by the players. What an embarrassing period of play.

  100. J Walter Weatherman says:

For every good play Letang makes on the PP, he makes 2 bad plays. He has every skill necessary to be a great PP player, but has never clicked in that role.

  101. Jandy says:

    indeed

  102. DJ says:

On the one-timer on the PP, I put Stamkos #1 and Sid and Ovie tied at #2, but Letang could certainly learn something from all three.

Coaching would honestly help Letang here, if the coaches ever took the time and Letang was willing to learn, the second aspect perhaps being more the issue.

  103. DJ says:

One huge skill Letang does not possess on the PP is entering the zone. He’s a butcher.

He learned little watching Steve Sullivan, who was one of the best at understanding time and spacing. One reason I want to see Derrick Pouliot here as soon as he is ready . . . if not sooner.

  104. hockeymonster says:

Check team record with him in…Lindquist stealing game so far. Gotta give rangers credit…pens got discouraged after not scoring and Jeffrey guilty of trying to make plays. Never said they’d go unbeaten with Jeffrey in.

  105. Milo Hamilton says:

OK. Now it’s time for Fleury to skate the length of the ice & beat the crap out of Lundquist.

  106. Milo Hamilton says:

    Hilarious. He’s awful.

  107. Jandy says:

    ZING!

  108. Jandy says:

Dear Lord, these guys couldn’t score into an open net tonight…

  109. theplanisworking says:

Well, this is one of the 54………. wait, wrong sport.
Sometimes you are the penguin, sometimes you are dinner. ;)

Need a good laff, check your mail, Miss jandy.

    Everyone have a great night.
    Be safe.
    Be good.

    Fire Bylsma. ;)

  110. CWalton_67 says:

You are watching everything wrong with this team. Things didn’t go their way early, so they pouted and quit. Disgusting display.

  111. DJ says:

Would love to know our percentage tonight on face-offs.

And perhaps it’s my imagination, or maybe I haven’t been paying close enough attention, but it just seems Sid has not been doing well there the last few games, even more noticeable on the PP.

Then again, the stats may prove me wrong.

  112. Jandy says:

    Hahahahaa!!!
    Sleep well, Hipposter :)

  113. hockeymonster says:

Geez…tough crowd…how many teams go undefeated? Pens got discouraged and made mistakes after being robbed but at what point do you give other team credit and move on?

  114. hockeymonster says:

They do like their goals early…

  115. hockeymonster says:

Atleast it took rather perfect shots to beat fleury…more surprised we didnt accidentally on purpose run into Lindquist couple times.

  116. florida steeler says:

Still say they should have traded him for some quality young talent.

  117. DJ says:

Sid 5 for 14 tonight (36%) in the offensive and defensive zones — where it matters most — but 50% overall because of his neutral zone %.

  118. Eric Bowser says:

It is just one game but when this team has efforts like the one they had in the second and third period, it makes you wonder what Bylsma was thinking after the first period. Is he capable of motivating this team?

I can’t credit New York when the Penguins had at least 17 turnovers tonight.

  119. Sarah says:

I honestly think it’s just indecisive/brain cramp stuff with Letang. His hockey IQ is low on the PP.

Like Martin much better. Crisp with puck, into good lanes, low shots get deflections and rebounds.

  120. Jandy says:

I’m a Letang fan, but I agree with you here.

  121. Sarah says:

Agree Eric…..never had the feeling the team responds to DB. He’s kind of a technocrat anyway…but even when he’s animated or mad they don’t respond.

  122. Sarah says:

PS Hope Perry’s hanging in there!

  123. DJ says:

Sarah: If we’re focused on Letang’s inability on the PP to let loose a one-timer off a pass, I don’t think it is indecision at all. He just has the unnerving habit of always wanting the puck perfectly positioned on his blade before he does anything with it (perfectionist?).

It is very rare to see him striding into a pass, timing the puck coming across the ice and letting it rip on goal. So rare that I cannot remember the last time he did it. Some portion may have to do with his low shot %’s in his early years, consistently missing the net by very wide margins.

If there are two areas Letang could improve on the PP, this would be one big one. The other would be consistently entering the zone CLEANLY. On the latter, he needs to think small strides to open areas of the ice and then patience . . . a la Steve Sullivan.

  124. Sarah says:

I guess I don’t argue that he is maddening in his inabilty/reluctance to simply one-time the thing. Agree there.

I just think in many other ways he lacks decisiveness up there, and moving the puck quickly into lanes a la Sarge to Geno is so important. Moving quickly is most important and I think Martin’s better at it.

Totally agree on entering the zone, esp re Sully. My goodness he made it looks easy didn’t he??
And he was great on faceoffs. Miss that guy.

  125. DJ says:

    Well, we’re in agreement.

Sarge had the ability to find the shooting lanes by the shuffling laterally along the blue line, head always up and puck comfortably on his stick and then letting loose the low, ice-hugging ones.

While Sarge was the master, you’re right about Martin doing that much better than Letang. It’s not even close and why I also prefer him QB-ing the PP over Letang.

From what I have seen of Pouliot so far, I’m excited about his PP abilities, but he’s probably one year away . . . Martin out when contract expires and then Pouliot in.
