  1. Pucknutz says:

    Lets Go Pens

    HIT SOMEBODY
    SHOOT
    SOMEONE GO TO THE NET
    FIRE BYLSMA

  2. Iceman says:

Excited to see that Paul Martin is expected to be back in the lineup tonight. IMHO he has been the best all-around defensive player this year. He has made good decisions with the puck and has played good positionally. I’m sure Orpik is glad he’s back to so he doesn’t have to be paired with Engo again.

  3. Not a big supporter of changing up the lines like the hockey discussion all morning pushed for.

Just a short time ago, Crosby/Kunitz/Duper was considered one of top lines in hockey.
Malkin finally has Neal back to take some pressure off and SHOOT THE PUCK. Jussi 2nd on team in goals.

    Slumps are slumps . . . . . let the boys play.
Just keep encouraging them to play a little closer to the net!

Quit badgering Badgered Bylsma. He can only play the players GM Shero gives him. Big boys will be added in February.

  4. Rich says:

The last Flyers game really showed the lack of Pens willingness/ability to grind it out in front of the net. It cost the game (and probably last season’s Boston series). I am not calling for Bylsma’s head – yet- but the Pens (from the top down) need to understand that the way to score is to muscle goals in from in front. And the best way to keep them out is to muscle guys away from the front of your net. Muscle…not sure we have it.

  5. theplanisworking says:

    Billy Groat……………….

    You have excellent news.
Dooooooook got their top 2 recruits.
    That is all.

  6. theplanisworking says:

When respected stars of the game condone fighting, there will never, ever be any hope of cleaning up the sport.
“Fighting stops other dirty plays”…………. if I had a nickle for every time a fight DIDNT stop a dirty play, I would be a rich man.

  7. hockeymonster says:

Well looks like more of the same…looks like bylsma dont do lines…changes that is :)

  8. Bizrow says:

There is still lots of time before the “real games” begin ;-)

  10. Sarah says:

    Yeah Iggy should know better.
Fighting causes dirty plays sometimes too.
It’s a crazy culture and you’re right the stars need to get on board.

But it is complicated and much depends on the refs.

  11. Go Pens!

    Give ‘em the old …………

    ;)

  12. Bizrow says:

    Give em us old guys???

    :-)

  13. George says:

Anybody remember when the PENS were a “tough” team to play against? I watch players that were hitters (except Glass) doing flybys. Forwards (including our two superstars) rush into the O-zone then curl at the half boards and throw wish passes across the ice. What happened to shooting the puck low on net and the center drive? The power play has 5 skaters on the periphery until things get a a little hectic and than, you might so some net front presence as it happened when Crosby scored on the PP Tuesday night.

This team needs to play with some anger, some attitude, and it needs to work harder at being a team. This can improve if coaching starts holding players accountable. If they don’t want pay hard, let them ride the pine for a few shifts, even the superstars. Nothing can be more motivating to player than watching his teammates grab their ice time. And if Bylsma won’t do it . . . then maybe its time for him to move on and have J Martin coach this team and hold all the players accountable.

  14. Sarah says:

At this point I would be thrilled with just an ES goal.

  15. Milo Hamilton says:

Let’s see. The Penguins need to put the puck in the net. Simple as that.

  16. theplanisworking says:

    Nice start to the game.

Looks like I will be getting that remodeling done after all.
    1-0 bad guys.

  17. Sarah says:

Good lord. So the team that has 1 goal in the last three games is already on the board.

  18. Sarah says:

Bort scratched, cos Tang and Maata SO GOOD together.

  19. Milo Hamilton says:

Anyone know if Phoebe Cates is at the game ?

  20. Pucknutz says:

Ya, lazy clear, and everybody just milling around ….

  21. theplanisworking says:

    ???

  22. Milo Hamilton says:

    Kevin Klein.

  23. Sarah says:

Was that Geno on the clear? Oy.

  24. Sarah says:

    2007-09

  25. djroman says:

Pens got a very good look of what traffic in front of the net can do.

Too bad it was by the Preds.

  26. DJ says:

    Maybe we learn a lesson.

  27. theplanisworking says:

    Oh. Missed that.
I was mesmerized by the Pens PP………….. :(

    And, DOOOPWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!

    :)

  28. Barb says:

Good evening all. Well finally the puck finds its’ way into the net.

  29. Sarah says:

    Duper scores.
    Without Crosby.
    On the 3rd line.

    Time for my meds….

  30. theplanisworking says:

    MY GOD, A PP GOAL!
    NEAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Milo Hamilton says:

Gee, play more than once a week & the puck starts going in. Shocker.

  32. Barb says:

James Neal and a PP goal to boot. Woop, woop!

  33. Pucknutz says:

Yes …… 2 guys in front … nice shot Geno !

  34. Milo Hamilton says:

Anyone know if Carrie Underwood is at the game ?

  35. Sarah says:

    Boy Geno not even smiling….geez…?

  36. Pucknutz says:

    Why?

  37. theplanisworking says:

Jandy would be so proud of you for the camel reference. :)

  38. theplanisworking says:

I thought her husband played for Montreal?

  39. Milo Hamilton says:

    She’s married to Mike Fisher.

  40. Sarah says:

So I think I saw Duper on a couple of shifts w Sutter, and a glimpse of Bennett w Crosby.

    What happened to Bylsma?

  41. Milo Hamilton says:

I understand why Bortuzzo is scratched tonight. He’s being punished for being outworked by Wayne Simmonds the other night. Fine. But going forward, I think this team as currently constructed is better served with Engelland playing a wing on the 4th line. Still trying to figure out the Matt D’Agostini fixation.

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

Those were shifts right after a power play.

  43. Milo Hamilton says:

    The Dupuis ones, I meant.

  44. theplanisworking says:

He started reading our blog. ;)

  45. Sarah says:

    Yep.
    He was Bylsma’d.

Unlike for example, Letang, who gets more ice time when he sucks, not less.

  46. Milo Hamilton says:

Can’t argue with that ! :) Letang is like Pedro. You put up with all the strikeouts & wait for the homeruns. Maddeningly spectacular.

  47. Jandy says:

Hipposter is right! Good job Barb!

  48. Jandy says:

    Bahahahaha!

  49. Jandy says:

It upsets me that MEGNA was sent down and D’Agostini plays. He better show us something tonite!

  50. theplanisworking says:

    Welcome.

Thanks to you, I had to clean up from the birthday bash today.
Next year, you have clean-up detail. ;)

  51. Jandy says:

    Thank you for that, Milo.:*

  52. Jandy says:

    Lol maybe ;)

  53. Sarah says:

    What. A. Save.
    Gracious.

  54. Jandy says:

    Neal just got robbed

  55. Jandy says:

    Agreed!

  56. Milo Hamilton says:

This is the best Bennett has looked. Gotta give the injured guys some time & more importantly, some games.

  57. Pucknutz says:

    Nice analogy !

  58. theplanisworking says:

    I hope Boras isnt Letang’s agent………….. ;)

  59. Jandy says:

Just checking in. Fighting off a migraine. Later looies

  60. Sarah says:

Mind boggling that Errey is talking up the Letang Maatta combo.
It’s the worst Ollie’s looked in ages.

  61. Milo Hamilton says:

And there he is, on cue.

  62. theplanisworking says:

    TANGER!!!!

    WOOP WOOP! ;)

See what happens when you shoot the puck???????

  63. theplanisworking says:

Get better. Migraines are the worst……

  64. Barb says:

    Alright another goal.

  65. Sarah says:

Wow, after a save like that, a goal like that….

  66. Pucknutz says:

    Low and dirty…

  67. Brandie says:

He got his head pulled out of his nether regions finally!

  68. Brandie says:

    Maddeningly spectacular!

  69. JohninOshkosh says:

Twas only a few years ago, Nashville was the “it” franchise of the NHL. Seem to be spinning in neutral these days.

  70. Brandie says:

Who is this Malkin with the multiple points?

Bummed that The Jandinator is not feeling well.

    Good evening lewnatiks!

    SUTTER!

  71. Brandie says:

    Spectacularly Maddening!

  72. Brandie says:

It is known that the Pens must have two guys named Matt at all times!

  73. Barb says:

Good evening Brandicita. Me thinks we should play Nashville more often.

  74. Sarah says:

Well, one more brain injury racked up by the NHL.
I guess Glass did not forget that hit on Letang by Nystrom.

Nystrom by the looks of it, may have forgotten his name.

  75. Milo Hamilton says:

The NHL released a study a couple of years back stating that 9% of head injuries were caused by fights. If you were really worried about concussions & could eliminate 9% of them with the stroke of a pen, wouldn’t you ?

  76. Sarah says:

    I would.

  77. Pucknutz says:

Glass – clean hit – Nystrom starts sh$$ – big fail!!!
Hope the guy ain’t really hurt – my main reason to do away with the fighten. Possible concussion from either the punch or worse the head hittin the ice w/o a helmet. Maybe linesmen need to jump in as soon as the helmet comes off. In this case I believe they “were” pretty quick.
That said ….. that was one of the “reaction” type fights that I don’t really mind…. Glass just creamed him… bad decision or bad luck….
    OK, plan … Neanderthal time…

  78. theplanisworking says:

I have beat the drum on this crap, and I think I am wasting my time. The evidence is so overwhelming to stop the fighting, but the Neanderthal wing of GM’s (and players….. here’s looking at you, Jarome Iginla) will fight this til the bitter end.

    Sigh.

  79. Pucknutz says:

“Nystrom by the looks of it, may have forgotten his name.”
Ya know Sarah, a part of me wants to laugh at that ( no jab at you, I get your point) and another part says that is really stupid, this ain’t boxing.
Really leaning towards – fight – throw them out of the game.
But … the old school in me is nagging my more rational side. lol

  80. theplanisworking says:

Oh, and before my Oldzheimers gets the best of me……….
welcome to Brandimal in da house…….

  81. Brandie says:

Definitely a feast tonight, Oh Barablicious!

  82. Brandie says:

    PLANTASTIC! PLANTASM!

  83. theplanisworking says:

    :)

  84. Pucknutz says:

Don’t think you are wasting your time Plan. But I do think it will take “time”.
I think the GM’s are an softer sell than the players. Sadly it is going to take a few more serious injury to some high profile players to make the point.

  85. Brandie says:

I like the grit, but I don’t see how the game is advanced WWE style. I tell you what, let’s put all the action in a steel cage.

    SCORE, DEFEND, OR DIE!

    Literally!

  86. Milo Hamilton says:

Joe Vitale in the process of setting an NHL record for most times being offside in a game. Quite a moment for the young man.

  87. Jandy says:

Thanks for the shout out sistah. It’s easing up.

  88. theplanisworking says:

    Down girl!!

  89. Jandy says:

Don’t know why Nystrom picked a fight anyway. Clean hit.

  90. Pucknutz says:

Wow, Brandie, I am seein Mel Gibson and Tina Turner …….
    “literally” lol

  91. Pucknutz says:

Just for fun Milo…. what is the record? :)

  92. Brandie says:

Joe Vitals…The Cutch of The Pittsburgh Penguins!

    MOP! (Most Offside Player!)

    What a Trail Blazer!

  93. Brandie says:

    Vitale Not Vitals…

Though Joe Vitals does have a ring!

  102. Brandie says:

    You’re Welcome!

  103. theplanisworking says:

Nice win for the flightless waterfowl!
Bylsma made some changes………. still shocked.

This will be a lost weekend for me, no Pitt football, or Steelers on TV. :(

Everyone have a great night……….. you too Brandimal, as you prepare for your steel cage fights. ;)

  104. theplanisworking says:

    +++++++++++

  105. Brandie says:

Goals, actual goals were scored! Evgeni got points!

    Literally!

  106. Brandie says:

    Stay Cool, Plan Michael Vincent!

  107. Jandy says:

  108. Jandy says:

    I HATE that pairing

  109. Barb says:

Great win tonight….I am going to turn in…..into what I haven’t decided!

  110. Jandy says:

    G’night everyone!

  111. Brandie says:

    Bodacious Dreams!

  112. Brandie says:

    Sleep Well My Queen!

  113. JohninOshkosh says:

Columbia (yes that Columbia) with a legitimate chance to upset the would be number one Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing.

Michigan State hasn’t lost a home November game since 1986.

  114. Sarah says:

Oh dear, I didn’t mean to be a wiseacre….and NO I think the fighting has to go. I just have played all my life and understand the culture of why it’s there and why it will be very hard to eradicate completely.

And actually props to Glass who hung on to Nystroms jersey for an extra second which held him up so his head didnt totally smack the ice.

Clean hit by Tanner, stupid of Nystrom to pick a fight.

  115. Sean says:

    Dejan,

What are your thoughts on Maata recently? He seems to coughing up the puck a lot when pressured. I know he needs to play, but I feel like the Pens would get more out of Bortuzzo right now.

DK: Maatta is going to have his struggles at the NHL level. Been saying that from the first day. That said, I’m still waiting for them. Haven’t seen it. Mistakes get magnified in our minds. It’s when we notice someone. Moreover, the Penguins have faced much tougher competition in the past few games than in the first few. He’s holding up well.

  116. hockeymonster says:

Maatta recovers well when he does cough it up or gets caught. What i wanna know is why engo needs to play ahead of borts? I know bortuzzo choked on that one play during philly game but they all make mistakes. Bortuzzo and maatta both need to learn how to work thru that while getting valuable experience. I dont get bylsma’s bi-polar-ness about young dmen. Last season he insists on not sending down despres resulting in Strait being waived(a move i hated at the time) only to use despres as a scapegoat for any minor thing that went wrong. Even though pens record with despres is very very good, playoffs included. And now after acknowledging engo shouldn’t be more than a 7-8th dman he plays him ahead of an improving bortuzzo.

  117. Sarah says:

Borts got Bylsma’d after a poor game in Philly.
So Engo is back, and Matta is paired woth Tanger where IMO he’s been at his shakiest.

  118. hockeymonster says:

I think he’s playing more minutes with tanger against better players. All things considered maatta is a beast. Never ever thought he’d be in top 4 this quick. What’s scary is how high his ceiling is when his skating gets better. He’ll mess up but he seems to limit damage well. For now he needs to keep it simple but I would find games to rest him too.
