    Almost forgot……..

  2. You forgot. Go 1-3-1.

  3. JohninOshkosh says:

I think as a Christmas present, or a thank you gift for the blog, we should all chip in and get Dejan a weekend getaway package to Newark.

He’s obviously a fan. I’ve never been, and probably never will. Mostly, I would never go based on Dejan’s jabs, albeit hilarious, at the New Jersey city.

  4. hockeymonster says:

Bout time…I didn’t wanna post anything till I saw your customary intro. :)

  6. Sarah says:

    Thanks Plan!
“I’m starting to think maybe Michel Therrien and even assistant at the time, Mike Yeo should get some of the credit that Byslma gets for the 2009 Cup. ”

Goodness, late to the party lol!

Anyway, all moot. Disco is here for awhile. He could lose 20 straight and Shero would never can him before the Olympics.

Last night was a brighter spot for sure, but Nash is an awful team. Lets see that kind of result vs contenders. But I do not expect it.

    Hope Borts is back tonight.

  7. theplanisworking says:

I dont know how much credit I would give Yeo………. he was on the 2010 and 2011 staffs. But this article brings up some good points.

Continuity can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing.

  8. 21sthebest says:

John, I’m guessing you saw by now that it was all a hoax and the girl was an actress.

  9. Sarah says:

Yeah Yeo was run off for the PP sucking. I’d like to get stats for his term at the PP helm vs Bylsma’s….

None of this is to say that I think they should have kept MT. He’d lost the team by that point.
But anyone who say DB was totally responsible for that Cup is incorrect IMO.

The Pens were tremendously disciplined defensively that Spring. In a way that eroded rapidly and has never come close since.
Though I have hopes Martin can make a difference – seems he already has.

  10. JohninOshkosh says:

Yes, I saw that, 21. Thanks. A good one.

  11. hockeymonster says:

Now they have zach sill playing ahead of poor DJ…clearly bylsma has it out for me too…can they just put DJ out of his misery and trade him waive him…something…what he ever do to them?!?! :)

  12. Sarah says:

    Borts Bylsma’d again. Yay.

  13. Jandy says:

Was at dinner with daughter, son-in-law, and Mischa…i see I didnt miss anything

  14. Sarah says:

Cripes was Adams out there with Sid? Been channel surfing. Hope that was mid change or something. Unless Discos trying to get Sid going by switching up….

  15. Sarah says:

Nope. Borts still paying for the PHL game. Ollie w Tang where he’s been awful.

  16. theplanisworking says:

Hope you had something good to eat.
    Not roasted Penguin, I hope…………………. ;)

  17. theplanisworking says:

Yep, all those offseason things really helped Fleury.

  18. Jandy says:

Nah no penguin lol. Had shrimp

  19. Jandy says:

    Almost on that chitty goal….dayum

  20. Sarah says:

    Soft goal for MAF.
But I think the off season has indeed helped him. He’s far down on the list of issues.
    Til playoffs anyway!!!

  21. theplanisworking says:

  22. Sarah says:

Actually I saw a replay that it hit a skate….?
    Classic Penguin period. Dominate.
    Up 10-3 in shots.
    Down at the break.

Seen this fish many times before.

    Gettin pretty stinky now!

  23. Jandy says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself, Sarah.

  24. theplanisworking says:

Bylsma and Shero must love stinky fish, because thats what we get.
They say fish is good for you………..

    Serious question time…….
Will Bylsma coach like this in Sochi?

  25. theplanisworking says:

Thats because you are still eating dinner………… ;)

  26. Jandy says:

    Am not you dorktard :P

  27. Sarah says:

If he does he will never get another Olympic gig.
His systems appear complicated and hard to learn. When you have a group that’s together maybe 3-4 weeks, you better keep it simple and not over-analyze or tinker too much.

Lavs might save him but I doubt it.

  28. theplanisworking says:

  29. Jandy says:

They’re playing in NJ so the ice has to be better :)

  30. theplanisworking says:

    WOOP WOOP !!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Jandy says:

    Kunie gotta gooniie!

  32. Sarah says:

TG. Wasn’t looking fwd to watching NJ clamp down defensively with a lead.

  33. Jandy says:

    Amen sister!

  34. Jandy says:

Kunitz doing his best crosby impersonation

  35. Sarah says:

    Great save MAF.

  36. Dom says:

Big save after big save for fleury

  37. Sarah says:

    Good God, Niskanen.
    WHY is Borts sitting again?

  38. Sarah says:

Shoot the puck Geno. For crap’s sake. Don’t spin o ram to your backhand just SHOOT.
What has happened to his confidence??? Cripes,

  39. Dom says:

    2-1 bad guys

  40. Sarah says:

Oh, and then that. WTF. How much room can you give a team? Ugly.

  41. theplanisworking says:

Searching for any positives from that last sequence of suck………….

  42. Sarah says:

I get that kind of D in my beer leagues.
Everybody backing in, nobody taking anybody. Awful.

And Geno looks plain scared to shoot.

Really getting sick of watching the same game over and over. Ugh.

  43. hockeymonster says:

You make it sound like no one was back checking or willing to block a shot…

  44. Sarah says:

    Sorry to be Negative Nellie!
But man this is depressing to watch. And it ain’t all on the D.
I think Crosby Malkin have 1 goal the last 5 games. That is simply ridiculous.

  45. hockeymonster says:

Puck possession n pressure has been a joke save couple shifts. Fleury saving this game. Time to try curveball lines.

  46. Sarah says:

    4 mins? Was there blood?

  47. Sarah says:

    Nagahappa because Disco

  48. Sarah says:

  49. Sarah says:

Seriously Geno is afraid to shoot

  50. hockeymonster says:

Good thing Nashville was on their charter by 2nd period last night.

  51. theplanisworking says:

    Bad loss tonight.
    Talent, or coaching?
How many years are we going to see the same old same old?

    Good night everyone.
    Be safe, and be good.

  52. Sarah says:

And Jagr ices it beating Letang , after not scoring for 197 games.

    Gnight all!

  53. Dom says:

How come the Pens always play better in their commercials than they do in the actual games?

  54. DJ says:

That’s what happens when you have defensemen making passes through onrushing forwards instead of off the boards or skating and waiting for an opening.

Niskanen did the same thing earlier, was also burned, but saved by Fleury.

  55. hockeymonster says:

Closed door meeting time. Tough games coming up they better get it together…quick.

  56. J Walter Weatherman says:

A couple of thoughts on the Pens two struggling stars – Malkin and Letang:

    1. Either Letang is simply not good enough to justify his contract or Bylsma has to modify his system to get better play out of Letang. I don’t know the answer, but there’s a serious disconnect there. This isn’t just based on this year. Letang has never flourished as a PP QB, has always been an average defensive player, and has always had trouble with turnovers. That said, he has all the physical skills needed to be great at these things. Maybe he just needs the right coaching and system to unlock his full potential? In the meantime, he’s wasted money that could’ve been used for gritty depth.

    2. Has it been postulated yet that Malkin may be playing a “softer” game to lessen his chances of getting hurt prior to the Olympics? I fully recognize that it’s kind of a far-out theory and I’d like to give Geno the benefit of the doubt, but there’s a lot of pressure on the Russians, and he’s human. I guess we won’t really know until we see how things shake out after the Olympics.

  57. aaron hermann says:

    Hey Dejan,

Did you see the late third period turnover Letang coughed up on Jagr’s goal?  Typical maddening, frustrating, exasperating Letang.

If Engelland can play wing, why not try Letang at wing and bring up another young defenseman?

    Just a thought….

    DK: A pretty radical one.

  58. jm says:

Your theory on Malkin makes sense. I never thought of that.

His demeanor tonight made me believe he wants Bylsma fired or himself traded. But your speculations make more sense than mine.

  59. aaron hermann says:

Well, you know what they say about continuing to do the same thing while expecting different results.

    DK: Yep.

  60. aaron hermann says:

In your opinion, if things continue this way is that a move the pens would ever consider making?

  61. Sarah says:

    No because Disco

  62. aaron says:

There is that. He is the guy who refused to play future hall of famer Iginla at right wing during the cup run last year, so I suppose a more radical move like this isn’t even on the radar.

  63. Sarah says:

I’m more frustrated by: Borts punished for a bad game v PHL so we get Engo on D, which puts Maatta w Letang where he’s been much less effective.
Tanger on PP when Martin is so obviously more composed and smarter and uses the lanes better.
Bennett on 3rd line while Duper kills all of Crosby’s setups While being a “First liner” ( who BTW was promised his 1st line status by Disco)

Really there’s a ton going on that is just frustrating and head-scratching.

Not opposed to Letang as a winger. For the money we pay him, he makes too many important mistakes on D.
IMO the good does not outweigh the bad for a defenseman, much like a goalie (the bad goals are way more important than the great saves).
A wonderful effort and bad angle goal by Tanger last night simply does not outweigh his low IQ and resulting multiple poor plays/turnovers, which have been critical in many losses and were again last night.

If it sounds like I’m one who wanted the Pens to deal 58, I am.

  64. Sarah says:

I believe he is already injured. Witness the reluctance to shoot on FH….stupid spin o ram BH last night. Maybe he is simply not better from the shoulder injury.
