  2. Jandy says:

    &#@^$@^ win!

  3. I like Ben Lovejoy.

    Hope he has a — 3 tonight!

  4. Milo Hamilton says:

    The game is at 7:30.

  5. theplanisworking says:

    Now, now………. ;)

  6. Jandy says:

    That’s what I thought, Milo.

  7. Jandy says:

Catch Yinz all later on. Gotta get this pile of work off my desk!

  8. JohninOshkosh says:

I love it when teams are properly named after the suburb in which they are located.

    Foxborough Patriots

    Flushing Mets

    Arlington Bowboys

  9. JohninOshkosh says:

*Ha. Cowboys. Curse ye, “POST COMMENT”

  10. theplanisworking says:

    This could be fun.

    Seacaucus Giants.
    Next year, San Jose 49ers.
    Laurel Redskins.

    Thanks, Oshie!

  11. Looking forward to watching some real man-on-man violence tonight.

I’ve had to watch John F. Kennedy killed 50 times in the last 10 days. Sad every time.
I’ve begun to cheer for Jack Ruby.

I can’t take it any more.

  12. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s too much for me too, Groat. Watched a number of them. I had avoided seeing Zapruder film, frame 313, my entire life, until this very past weekend. I was very fascinated with the glimpse of the time period but, man, I’ll be glad when the “anniversary” passes.

    I think I’ll watch Duke tonight. :)

  13. MADE . . . . ME . . . . SMILE . . . . BROADLY!

  14. Sarah says:

I see Disco is toying w lines….and I’m sorry but this is hilarious….

    Lines for Wednesday’s game:

    Bortuzzo – Crosby – Niskanen
    Glass – Malkin – Engelland
    Adams – Vitale – Adams
    Jokinen – Sill – Bennett

    Orpik – Dupuis
    Letang – Adams
    Maatta – Adams

  15. Sarah says:

    H/t Hockey Forums…..

  16. Adams is going to be tired!

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

Still a few days to go. Bob Schieffer said Sunday he didn’t think Ruby getting where he was on that Sunday was significant. He said the reporters, including him, would try to look like Detectives so they could get close with the police. Different time. And Ruby being around there wasn’t unusual. I know that isn’t your point, but I hadn’t heard the Schieffer thing before.

The other thing I got from the Sunday shows was that the 50th anniversary may be the last big deal because the next ones won’t have many living people to comment on it. I don’t have a problem with it. I remember where I was when I heard the news . . .

  18. You guys should have watched the Jim Jones re-hash yesterday. Talk about sad.

  19. hockeymonster says:

Bylsma likes the facets adams brings to his foundation…obviously

  20. Karen22 says:

You covered all the bases! (Errrr…ice).

  21. Karen22 says:

That, too! Pens are maddening of late.

  22. theplanisworking says:

    LOL Karen !! :)

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

Arriba, I learned that legendary news producer, Don Hewitt, told Dan Rather to go to Abraham Zapruder’s house and punch him in the face, if necessary, to take the only print of the film not in authorities possession, and let CBS lawyers handle the fallout. Then, Hewitt changed his mind.

I wasn’t around but the story to me has been a story of journalism, as much as anything else.

  24. Arriba Wilver says:

It was a story of lots of things, Osh. Lots of things. Journalism is certainly one, and as a kid, my whole family was glued to the black and white TV that whole weekend, and that Monday. But the story is about a lot more than journalism, IMO, but it’s definitely a big part of it. And we were a Republican household. Didn’t matter.

  25. Sarah says:

Bylsma likes try-hard guys….like he was himself when he played……

  26. Sarah says:

    But seriously -Duper w Geno?

Has Duper ever played with Geno? And did it work out?

What’s the over – under for how long all this lasts???

  27. Jandy says:

LOL Oshie! I was wondering if you forgot an “l” in there ;X

  28. Jandy says:

Dan Bylsma + Dan Potash = Frick ‘n Frack

  29. Jandy says:

    I was only 3 years old…

  30. Arriba Wilver says:

Then you’re in the clear. ;-)

  31. hockeymonster says:

How jussi will jussi be next to Sutter? Obvious move was just switching 19 and 9 if not putting kuni with geno n real deal.

  32. Jandy says:

    whew, that’s a relief! ;)

  33. hockeymonster says:

Thought yohe’s article on lovejoy was an interesting read.

  34. Milo Hamilton says:

    A period. Maybe.

  35. theplanisworking says:

They look like they are related.
    Dorktard one and dorktard two.

    (For you, Father Teresa). ;)

  36. theplanisworking says:

    Probably til next year.
You know how stubborn Disco is……… ;)

  37. Eric Bowser says:

About time Bylsma changed up the lines. I don’t care if Crosby thinks he’s great playing with Kunitz and Dupuis, the last ten games have been pretty average at best for that line and after a complete no-show in the conference finals against Boston, it was beyond time to make the change.

  38. Sarah says:

Either or both would work for me.
    Seriously, Disco?

  39. Milo Hamilton says:

    It’s a gibbon suit.

  40. Eric Bowser says:

    Lose the puck

What a lame system this is….

  41. Milo Hamilton says:

Sorry Eric, did you say something ? I nodded off for a minute.

  42. hockeymonster says:

What cycle? I wish there was a cycle to speak of.

Hope all is well on homefront Eric.

  43. Eric Bowser says:

Sister is home, Perry is doing great. Thanks for asking!

  44. Milo Hamilton says:

So Bela Karolyi is at the game ? If someone gets hurt he’s going to run onto the ice, scoop them up & carry them off.

  45. Jandy says:

    good to hear :)

  46. theplanisworking says:

  47. Purple Moose says:

0 shots in first 15 minutes, yep way to come out flying at home

  48. JohninOshkosh says:

I don’t have to go to the “Y” for the spinning class on nights the Pens play.

  49. theplanisworking says:

I see Perry is doing better recently.
    New treatment?

  50. theplanisworking says:

Same result……. you stay in place. ;)

  51. Jandy says:

    awww man, Bennett!

  52. JohninOshkosh says:

Hope the fans don’t leave early.

  53. Purple Moose says:

WE GOT A SHOT ON GOAL… only took 18 1/2 minutes.

  54. Eric Bowser says:

Erythromycin 3.75 ml 15-minutes before breakfast, lunch & dinner but it isn’t something the doctors want him on long-term. So in a few weeks, going to take him off it and see what happens.

  55. theplanisworking says:

3 shots on goal in that period?

    Good Lord.

    At least its 0-0.

I think we need to cycle more, and shoot less. ;)

  56. theplanisworking says:

    Pirate fans would tweet DK.

  57. JohninOshkosh says:

Does he live in Pittsburgh ?

  58. Jandy says:

    That’s a strong antibiotic, isn’t it???

  59. Jandy says:

Oh my…he looks like a Hobbit!

  60. Milo Hamilton says:

No, but I do see him more than the mayor.

  61. Viv says:

This team is in trouble. Mediocrity is tolerated and there is no accountability. This was evident at the end of last season, the repercussions of bad goaltending and terrible post seasons was awarded by giving Bylsma a 2 year extension, Letang a huge contract and a endorsement of Fleury. Prediction – things will get so bad that Byslma will not be here next year.

  62. Eric Bowser says:

Stagnant roster and coaching staff = stagnant play

This is on Shero… I’m done boring everyone about Bylsma.

  63. Eric Bowser says:

get some shoulder pads that fit… LOL

  64. Milo Hamilton says:

According to Ian Rapoport, all the Penguins have requested a trade.

  65. J Walter Weatherman says:

If the Pens fire Bylsma in the next month, does he still coach in the Olympics?

I know he really won’t be fired … unfortunately.

  66. Purple Moose says:

Couldn’t agree more Eric. We are in 15th place in points in the league with a fairly easy early season schedule. We don’t belong in the same sentence with the elite teams in the league currently and this coach shows no indication that he has any solutions……same issues as the last 4 playoff years.

  67. Jandy says:

    Fire Kovacevic!

  68. hockeymonster says:

Isnt this what teams look like right before someone makes a Antoinette reference.

  69. Purple Moose says:

I think he should be given a chance to devote 100% of his time to the Olympic team

  70. theplanisworking says:

I take it you dont frequent strip clubs?

  71. Viv says:

This is how great Mario was – he made any winger a star – Malkin and Crosby can only be stars if they have great wingers. Case in point Rob Brown and Warren Young.

DK: Many more than that, Viv. He even did it for Terry Ruskowski.

  72. theplanisworking says:

    For Ben?

  73. Jandy says:

Aren’t you confusing Milo with Drew?

  74. Sarah says:

So…..BB finally with Sid….and he gets what? 5 mins of ice time? seriously WTF Disco?

  75. theplanisworking says:

    LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. Viv says:

    Missed that one :)

  77. Sarah says:

And did Engo get a shot?
That should keep Borts in the press box another 10 games.
    Good God this is awful.

  78. Sarah says:

It was evident a lot earlier than last season.
    But agreed on all.

  79. Jandy says:

Beau missed on a beautiful opportunity.

  80. Viv says:

BTW – love reading your articles because you don’t sugar coat anything – you tell it the way it is – keep it up.

  81. JohninOshkosh says:

Wasn’t Brooks Orpik a shoo in for Team USA before the season began ? Playing himself off the national squad.

  82. JohninOshkosh says:

Ugh, this was supposed to stand alone.

  83. J Walter Weatherman says:

Can the Pens please get a right-handed defenseman who can actually hit the net with a shot?

  84. Milo Hamilton says:

    Johnny Wilson’s back, isn’t he.

  85. Eric Bowser says:

Perimeter play…. glad to see the team learned the hard lessons of losing to Boston.

  86. 21sthebest says:

Bela is 71. When I was a kid in the 70’s, I thought he was in his 70’s.

  87. Sarah says:

Is anyone on the NBC feed? Apparently DB was somewhat delusional in the in-game interview w Pierre….

  88. theplanisworking says:

Put a tall white hat on Karolyi, and we could have our own Swedish Chef!!!

    Bork, Bork, Bork. :D

  89. Purple Moose says:

He was asked by Pierre how you get your superstars out of there scoring slump and Bylsma said something to the effect that “there isn’t much you can do”. Nice that we have a cheerleader and not a coach who has no clue. How about matching lines to begin with Dan.

  90. Eric Bowser says:

Are you kidding me… that was his response?!?

  91. Milo Hamilton says:

Things really starting to pick up. There was nearly a rebound there.

  92. hockeymonster says:

    Johnny walker too

  93. Purple Moose says:

He did say that maybe they were gripping their sticks too tightly and needed to relax a little bit. Heck, I think they all deserve a weekend at a resort retreat somewhere.

  94. Sarah says:

He also said “they’re scoring goals that aren’t going in”
    He’s on crack.

    This is national TV Disco.

  95. Jandy says:

    Cap’n Morgan works for me!

  96. Purple Moose says:

Yep, there was nothing like we have to work harder or get grittier or get dirty goals. It was more like aw shucks we have just been unlucky lately.

  97. Jandy says:

    Wow these Ducks play dirty.

  98. JohninOshkosh says:

    Pierre with a great line:

“Viktor Faseth has been spitting out pucks like a Pez dispenser”

  99. hockeymonster says:

Engo needs no puck support…just leave him on island…he’ll be fine.

  100. Sarah says:

Does RS care that our own crowd is mocking us on national TV?

    How about 66?

  101. Milo Hamilton says:

Geno has turned into Craig Janney.

  102. Milo Hamilton says:

    Crosby-Adams-Glass. I’m concerned for Sarah.

  103. theplanisworking says:

    They must not………….

  104. JohninOshkosh says:

Hope he doesn’t introduce his girlfriend to Brendan Shanahan then.

  105. Purple Moose says:

All we need is some stretch passes to break out of this scoring slump.

  106. J Walter Weatherman says:

I wouldn’t say Fleury has been phenomenal, but he’s been much better than Fasth. Especially in the rebound control dept. Of course, you need to have someone in front of the net to score on a rebound.

  107. J Walter Weatherman says:

More stretch passes and pucks along the boards! That’s the ticket!!

  108. Milo Hamilton says:

Well there’s 90 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

  109. Purple Moose says:

Yep, Fasth hasn’t controlled one shot cleanly tonight but not a Pen within a mile of the rebound and the few times that they were, they of course missed the net.

  110. theplanisworking says:

I dont care what the standings say, I dont care the Pens were in 1st place in a weak division……… this is simply not a good hockey team. Star players not shooting the puck, coach that says there is nothing he can do, constant turnovers in the offensive zone, maddening lineups…….. also not matching lines, players look lost.

I dont know what Shero sees in this, but I have to feel he cant be happy. And, if he was listening to the NBC feed, he might have a question or 2 for his ” I cant do anything” coach… the same one he rewarded with an extension.

  111. Purple Moose says:

Pens no longer in 1st place in this weak division.

  112. JohninOshkosh says:

Just hand the Stanley Cup now to the Western Conference representative.

  113. I blame it on the 1-3-1.

  114. Purple Moose says:

I have seen this story before. Pens will not capitalize on their PP and then somebody like Malkin or Orpik will take a dumb penalty and the Ducks score within first 30 seconds of their PP

  115. theplanisworking says:

Oh, I know that, that is why I said “were”.

If this keeps up, they wont make the playoffs.
Then what excuses will Bylsma, Shero and 66 put forth???

  116. Jandy says:

PP 0/2…hope that doesn’t bite us in the butt…

  117. hockeymonster says:

    Deep breathe :)

  118. Purple Moose says:

Its fun watching highlights of the other games and seeing teams who actually score goals

  119. hockeymonster says:

Search “going thru the motions” and pens team picture pops up

  120. Eric Bowser says:

Highest scoring forward drafted by Shero and still on the team…

Bennett with 3 goals in 35 games.

  121. Jandy says:

    Well I’ll be dayumed

  122. Eric Bowser says:

The midget scores, Brian Gibbons….. unreal

  123. theplanisworking says:

    Rabble rouser !!

  124. Milo Hamilton says:

    A Gibbon suit !

  125. theplanisworking says:

  126. Jandy says:

No No No he’s a Hobbit!

  127. casper in a-town says:

Malkin can mesmerize at times. Beautiful 15 seconds of hockey.

  128. Jandy says:

    Holy Crap! Stop the presses!

  129. theplanisworking says:

    MATTA SUTTER!!!!!!!

    ITS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE !!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  130. Milo Hamilton says:

It was clearly a strategy. We lulled them to sleep.

  131. casper in a-town says:

    Nice bunt!

  132. Eric Bowser says:

    Sweet deflection by Sutter…..

  133. Jandy says:

And the Hobbit is a +2

  134. Jandy says:

    friggin Getzlaf

  135. hockeymonster says:

    Bottom 6 on fire.

  136. theplanisworking says:

    It worked, Milo.

  137. Jandy says:

  138. Jandy says:

    Nice, Sid!

  139. Purple Moose says:

    This is more like it

  140. theplanisworking says:

  141. Eric Bowser says:

That’s why you get traffic around the net and shoot the puck.

  142. J Walter Weatherman says:

Pens shooting on net, having people at the net; who is this team and where have they been the last 5 games?

  143. theplanisworking says:

    Imagine that.

  144. Purple Moose says:

Pens winning, Patriots losing and the Steelers a game out of the playoffs. Bout time the world gets straightened out.

  145. Jandy says:

    Nice save by Fleury!!

  146. Milo Hamilton says:

Brooks Orpik has certainly had better games.

  147. Jandy says:

    Nice save by Fleury!

  148. Jandy says:

    where the heck is Dom?

  149. J Walter Weatherman says:

He had been merely very good up to that point. After that save, he’s officially been “great”.

  150. Purple Moose says:

Letang has been almost invisible tonight which is not necessarily a bad thing………means no mistakes.

  151. hockeymonster says:

Fleury still no chance for team Canada? I think not…

  152. Milo Hamilton says:

I don’t how they’ve been able to manage this outburst without Dustin Jeffrey.

  153. theplanisworking says:

    BOOM !!

I thought he was your boy, Milo? ;)

  154. Jandy says:

    YAY!!!!!! Pens win!!!

  155. theplanisworking says:

    4AM comes soon for you……………… ;)

  156. Jandy says:

Good night everyone…4am comes way too quickly :)

  157. Jandy says:

    lol GMTA

  158. theplanisworking says:

Great 3rd period for the Pens tonight.
    Much needed win.

If they play like they did in the 3rd period every game, they will go far.
If they play like they did in the first 2 periods, they wont.
I know I am over-simplifying things, but its true.

Everyone have a great night, and be safe.

  159. Joni says:

Is it me, or did Malkin flip the switch after Kunitz was placed on his line (along with Neal) for a spell?
Or was it my change of avatar? Whatever it was, I’ll take it!

  160. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I’m going to try to critique tonight’s Pens game. Please feel free to correct me if I say something wrong.

    Thoughts of the game:

-the analyst was terrible. So let me get this straight, one of the Pens gets smacked in the face and “its just hockey” but Vitale’s penalty in the 3rd was a good call with an added high stick? Riiiggghhtt.

-Fluery looked awesome, except for the goal he gave up that made him look silly. Made up for it big time late in the 3rd with a sick save. Star of the game for sure.

-congrats to Brian Gibbons on his 1st career goal. Love seeing those types of milestones.

    -Malkin all over the ice.

-Sutters deflection on Maattas shot was just ridiculous. How the heck those guys do that is just plane awesome.

-I thought the defense did well tonight and eliminating a lot of rebounds by the Ducks.

-I agree with Bylsma. I think his scheme is there and gives the players the opportunity to score, they just aren’t hitting their shots. Except for the 1st period, which I missed.

I’m sure I missed a few things, but that’s my take on tonights game.

  161. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I thought Fluery looked like his 2009 run.

  162. hockeymonster says:

    Bout freakin time :)

  163. hockeymonster says:

Fewer stretch passes = more goals

All 3 goals off zone time we got not by stretch passing and chasing but by puck support and moving puck up ice as unit then chipping to corner with numbers. Malkin swoops in on 1st goal n makes gibby look like brownie. 2nd n 3rd goals similar situation with then traffic in front. Fancy that…

  164. hockeymonster says:

    Ya I noticed that too.

  165. Jandy says:

    Pretty good job, Ryan.

You missed the first period. You didn’t miss much :)

  166. Bela Karolyi was a guest on 93-7 the fan this morning and he was indeed entertaining enough.

  167. The Pens were certainly outstanding in the third quarter last night, Gibbon especially, and I would hope they can build on that when they face the Capitals in DC tomorrow.

  168. It’s been said that if the Pens were a western team, they wouldn’t qualify for the playoffs, at least not now, but then, they are indeed the leading team in a weak eastern division, and hopefully, they’ll improve as the season goes on.
