Comments

  1. Drew71 says:

    Who? What? Where?

Didn’t know there was a game today.

  2. Arriba Wilver says:

Probably because one of the teams is from Florida.

  3. Court Jester says:

Just read that CBS is reporting the steelers will lose a draft pick

  4. Thundercrack says:

I’m confused and keep this straight , are we supposed to believe the national reporters or not?

DK: This morning marks the first time anyone has reported definitively the Steelers will lose a pick.

  5. Rbilak says:

    1. Mike Adams starts, well let’s see how that works out.

    2. Matt Spaeth returns, still never understood the love affair, goes away, suddenly maybe a great blocker, sorry he did not.

    3. Lamar Woodley-Probable is playing, what is the line in which quarter he reinjured himself?

    4. Cody Wallace, could we have some bad snaps today? He is going up against a good player also.

    5. Major advantage in punting to Dolphins today.

    6. Hartline better player than Wallace, let’s see D up to task today.

    7. Big advantage is Ben, with hurt line we will see if he has time.

    8. Many Sanders, how many celebrations today.

    9. Time for Dan Rooney to make a statement about Sideline Gate and publicly tell God-all, who he supported, he works for them. Silence now needs to be broken otherwise Sideline Gate will continue to be topic and held over Steeler heads. The NFL rule called for a penalty on Tomlin, that is the rule, if they wanted to rule a TD, fine. But the fine coupled with draft loss pick is BS. It is triple jeopardy. But no one will challenge Adolph God-All. Tomlin should refuse to pay fine. Take him to court. Not Steeler’s fault the rules put in place were not enforced.

  6. JohninOshkosh says:

Finally, football being played on the field and not just seemingly endless talk about where a man was standing on the field.

Poster, Scott, posted a good link earlier this week from ESPN that made sense of playoff scenarios. Bottom line is the Steelers are still in the hunt. Just need to win, baby.

I am of the believe that you play for the postseason every game. Worry about April when April comes around. Plenty of good players play college football. The draft will take care of itself.

  7. Drew71 says:

    Only when they’re right.

  8. Drew71 says:

Or tell us what we want to hear.

  9. JohninOshkosh says:

8 degrees here with a good chance of snow during the Packers game today.

What’s the sitch at Heinz ? (I don’t bet on football, only occasionally on the ponies, just interested as the weather geek I am).

  10. Drew71 says:

But never if they’re from Canada. Hockey fighting goons.

    Unless they’re from Manitoba.

  11. twentytwo22 says:

Other AFC Wild Card #2 matchups

    1pm Minnesota at Baltimore (6-6)
1pm Oakland at NY Jets (5-7)
    4pm Tennessee (5-7) at Denver
4:25pm NY Giants at San Diego (5-7)

Hopefully, Baltimore will have a hard time stopping the run.

  12. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, that is an interesting game. See if the Vikes can avoid OT this week.

  13. Bizrow says:

  14. Daquido_Bazzini says:

It’s nice to know that it’s now official that the Steelers will lose a draft pick(s) for something Mike Tomlin did or didn’t do in the heat of battle.
Why the organization and its fans should suffer for this joke is beyond me, but this is how the mind of Roger Goodell (and those that surround him) do business.
Punish the innocent….Punish the paying customer.

  15. JohninOshkosh says:

i don’t understand that sanction at all. Especially, in light of the ambiguity of it all.

Here’s a novel idea if you want to attach additional punishment to the fine: suspend the guy who allegedly did it for one game, the coach.

  16. Arriba Wilver says:

    Baltimore will destroy Minnesota.

May be the first time I root for the Jets to win.

    Denver romps.

Giants and SD toss up, but have to hold nose and root for Manning.

If I’m wrong, call me Drew or DK.

  17. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Exactly….It would’ve made more sense to suspend Tomlin for the rest of the year than dock a draft pick.
Apparently the organization and the fans coerced Tomlin to drift onto the field.

  18. Rbilak says:

Mr. Dan Rooney needs to publicly respond to Dictator God-All. There is a rule in place to deal ith what a Tomlin did, the Ref failed to call it, even after almost hitting Tomlin. So the Steelers are punished, Tomlin is punished, and the fans are punished. Adolph God-All, ruining Football one decision at a time.

  19. Arriba Wilver says:

As far as the draft pick sanction, South Park sang it best— dum dum dum dum dum.

  20. twentytwo22 says:

Tennessee getting to 8 losses overall with 6 of those losses in the conference would be good.

    Baltimore has @Detroit, vsNE, @CIN
    Miami has vsNE, @BUF, vsNYJ

If the Steelers win their 3 home games (all versus the AFC), the Steelers could lose at Green Bay and be 8-8, but 7-5 in the AFC. They could make the playoffs somehow. A lot of stuff to figure out for that scenario.

  21. 21sthebest says:

    +1

  22. twentytwo22 says:

But then all the Steelers had to do last year to make the playoffs was win their last two games at home vs Cincinnati and Cleveland.

  23. twentytwo22 says:

The Steelers get back coach is Milton from Office Space. ‘Um you need to get behind the white line’ ‘You’re on the field coach’

  24. twentytwo22 says:

    ROLB Woodley

  25. twentytwo22 says:

4 sacks in the last 6 weeks for 3-4 DE Heyward.

  26. theplanisworking says:

    ++++++++

  27. theplanisworking says:

Are we allowed to get excited about todays action in the NFL, or do we have to wait until Spring Training?

    I want to pace myself…………

  28. theplanisworking says:

    + many AW.

Can anyone tell me , besides the TV deal, anything good that GODell has done? He seems to have butchered many things in his time as commish.

  29. twentytwo22 says:

Joe Flacco intercepted by Chad Greenway.

  30. twentytwo22 says:

    La’zarus Bell.

  31. Lad 9 says:

Should be a Heath Miller kind of day today. HEEEEEEEEEATH!

  32. twentytwo22 says:

    15td 15int for Flacco.

2 carries 3 yards for Peterson. Minnesota 3 and out.

  33. theplanisworking says:

You think its snowing in Pittsburgh?
Check out the Iggles-Lions game. THAT is some snow.

Love seeing games played in the elements.
The way football was meant to be played.

This year’s Super Bowl could be interesting weather-wise.

  34. Bizrow says:

Bell has adopted Mendenhall spin moves?

  35. twentytwo22 says:

That was a great run by Bell. Miller was engaged with his guy 2-3 yards in the back field, Bell ran into his back but slid to the right and patiently waited for a *unknown Steeler* to push his guy to the right of Miller opening up a hole for Bell to get through. He ran to the line and did a spin move for those additional yards. Could have been a loss. led to a TD.

  36. I surely hope not, Biz.

  37. JohninOshkosh says:

I love football in the snow. I was at Soldier Field once. It was snowing at the beginning of the game. Then it got so cold, my beer was starting to freeze at the surface. Football in the North is so bizarre. The first games you go to in late August and early September are often played in heat and humidity and then, by the time must win games are being played, you need to concern yourself with snow.

The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting snow Super Bowl Week in NY, for what it’s worth. Would make for some great television. Biggest complainers I’ve heard so far are sportswriters who have to cover it!

  38. Sarah says:

    Argh ….classic Ben sack/fumble.

  39. theplanisworking says:

    I went to a Pitt-Army football game in ’83.
Foot of snow in the stands.
    15 degrees.
Refs, players and band members were unfortunate targets of massive snowball throws.

Went to the ’85 Pitt-Penn State game.
    They moved it to nighttime.
Temp was 0 degrees at kickoff, and only went down from there.

Funny how I can remember those 2 games, and I forget the hundreds of games in nice weather.

  40. pattonbb says:

Classic tackle getting beat like a drum.

  41. Steelag70 says:

Another lackluster performance by this team…the standard is the standard.

  42. Looks like another forgettable game so far. Can’t see it here. Just the online stuff. Even that looks bad.

  43. Bizrow says:

    You are spot on

  44. Steelag70 says:

The standard is the standard…well now that the standard has been brought down. Today is just another chapter in a forgettable season.

I hope MT learned his lesson and won’t pull those antics again.

  45. Steelag70 says:

Looks like Miami is better at playing in these elements than the home team…unbelievable.

  46. theplanisworking says:

Even if Troy doesnt get credit for the TD, that was still a great play.

  47. theplanisworking says:

    And he got it !!

  48. Bizrow says:

I think we might just have anti-jinxed them, Lucky ;-)

  49. Steelag70 says:

I gladly retract my last few comments regarding the Steelers performance today…lol.

  50. Steelag70 says:

    Can we possibly cover Clay??

  51. Sarah says:

That’s a TD in think. Ugh.

  52. 21sthebest says:

That catch had a Stallworth feel.

  53. Steelag70 says:

Boy that sure was a great decision to sign Keenan Lewis…oh wait, they didn’t…

  54. Sarah says:

Goodness. Cotch may be an old man but all he does is catch TDs!

  55. Dom says:

Exactly! That’s why I assume they’ll keep Taylor. Can’t go into 2014 with Gay and Allen as the starting two CBs

  56. Steelag70 says:

He has been a dependable, clutch player for the Steelers. I have always like him.

  57. Dom says:

Bad day to have Tom Brady as your starting QB

  58. Dom says:

    I meant in fantasy football.

  59. Steelag70 says:

You have to start rebuilding at some point. IMO Gay has played better this year than Ike and Allen.

  60. Steelag70 says:

How embarrassing is it that the Browns are handling NE and we were shredded….unbelievable.

  61. Steelag70 says:

My hats off to this patchwork O-Line today…

  62. Dom says:

Haven’t heard Adams mentioned. That’s a good thing.

  63. Sarah says:

What a stand by the D thus far. I have to go throw up now…..

  64. Sarah says:

    ….great tackling….for Pop Warner….

  65. theplanisworking says:

    Steelers too inconsistent to win.
    Inconsistent teams dont go far.
D has allowed Miami to get their most points of the season today. Congrats.

    But the heck with that…………..
I got actual snow today!! It stuck to the ground……… so nice to see.

  66. DJ says:

    Sanders . . . no hands . . . almost ballgame.

  67. DJ says:

    . . . ballgame

  68. theplanisworking says:

    …………. and Goodnight, Gracie.
Many changes need to be made…….. I have a feeling they wont be made.

  69. Lad 9 says:

Once again horrific time management. Having to use a time out on 4th down on offense there? Seriously? Even if you had wanted to punt instead of go for it, you lost that option with only one TO left. Awful!

  70. Steelag70 says:

I take back the positive comments…this team is unworthy of the playoffs and after next week, will be put out of it’s misery.

  71. Sarah says:

My lord they are bad. Sounds so strange to say that …..but cripes.
    Awful.

  72. DJ says:

    Minnesota beating Baltimore. Wasted opportunity.

Dolphins come out second half with play action on first down. Where was that for us in first half? Where was that when we were ahead? OC needs to go.

  73. Steelag70 says:

I know I will get toasted and roasted, but I don’t care. I agree Plan that changes need to be made, and not just with the roster. I firmly believe that either Tomlin or Colbert need to go.

  74. DJ says:

Watch Ike on that play coming right to left. Looked like he thought he was going to hit Troy coming down line from left to right and so Ike waved at the runner.

    Ballgame right there.

  75. Steelag70 says:

Why just the OC?? Major changes are needed.

  76. 21sthebest says:

    Ben’s lateral looked forward.

  77. twentytwo22 says:

    Our playmakers suck.

  78. DJ says:

    That’s where it starts.

  79. twentytwo22 says:

Can’t even beat Miami in a snow game.

Offense had the ball 4 times in the 4th quarter and choked the game away.
Defense choked a drive away by not tackling a mediocre RB.
    Our punter stinks.

  80. Thundercrack says:

It looked that way to me too 21

  81. J Walter Weatherman says:

Another microcosm of Steelers season. Close, but no cigar. Pretty crazy play … didn’t even need to step out of bounds there. May have been forward lateral by Ben, but again, close.

Of course, the Ravens win a crazy game at the same exact time as Steelers lose. Yep … it’s a bad time to be a Steelers fan.

    Silver linings:
    1. Mike Wallace still stinks; great decision not to sign him
    2. Improved draft position with the loss

  82. hockeymonster says:

Well that puts a bow on the weekend.

  83. theplanisworking says:

That was an excellent try on the final play.
A good team wouldnt need that type of miracle.

Meanwhile in Baltimore, 5 TD’s were scored in the final 2 and 1/2 minutes.
    Baltimore wins, Miami wins.
For those who still dream of the playoffs, the Steelers will have to win their last 3, and Baltimore and Miami will have to lose their last 3, due to tiebreakers (at first glance.)

  84. DJ says:

Wow . . . you’ve got to force the Dolphins player to make the hit out of bounds or the tackle. Brown had at least 1.5 — 2 yards of space and the snow/footing was not a factor there.

What would have been a phenomenal play now nothing but an afterthought.

  85. JohninOshkosh says:

    A Lost Season.

  86. twentytwo22 says:

Brown has a chance for a miracle TD and clumsily steps out of bounds.

  87. I raise the flag with the 8th loss. There is no way an 8-8 team should play a playoff game. Time to play for next season.

  88. Steelag70 says:

I believe it starts higher than that…Tomlin or Colbert need to go.

  89. Steelag70 says:

It all starts at the top folks…Tomlin and Colbert.

  90. theplanisworking says:

And, the Cheatriots got the benefit of a phantom pass interference call………. as per usual. They just made an amazing comeback against the Browns.

Instead of addressing the simply awful officiating, and helmet to helmet hits, good ol’ Rog is more concerned with taking a draft pick from the Steelers.

Such is life in GODell’s NFL. :(

  91. JohninOshkosh says:

City also has Pens tied for lead in Eastern Conference, Pirates coming off a playoff year and Pitt’s men’s basketball looking solid.

  92. Rbilak says:

Yep terrible call to give Pats win. Just to make bad day worse. Roger will order film of call to be destroyed. No matter without Gronk they are toast.

  93. J Walter Weatherman says:

I don’t know how much people paid attention to the other games, but the officiating was really bad. Local game here was Colts/Bungles. Jeff Triplett made some head-scratching calls, to say the least, including one that gave the Bungles a TD in the 1st half (even after the benefit of replay). Officiating seems to be getting worse and I still don’t think anyone has a firm clue on the definition between legal/not legal hits.

That said, all major sports have their issues right now. See NHL and Bettman, Gary.

  94. theplanisworking says:

Lucky, that flag should have been raised since the wonderful 0-4 start.

This offseason, Dan, not Art Rooney needs to look at his organization from top to bottom. Every person in the FO, and roster needs to be evaluated. The coach, GM, cap specialst, co-ordinators……..evryone needs to be looked at………… because the backup punter didnt get this team into the mess its in.

Only then can they move on to the moves needed to the roster.

Why do I get the feeling that the status quo will reign supreme?

  95. DJ says:

Tomlin’s not going anywhere so you start with what’s realistic.

I don’t believe Colbert is either, but I do think he needs to regrab the wheel since there have been too many “appeasements” picks to placate Haley and Tomlin (examples being Rainey as Haley’s Jamaal Charles and Ta’amu as Tomlin’s Hampton).

Not hitting on picks in Rounds 2 – 5 in last 3 years is what’s killed us, Le’Veon Bell being the lone exception.

Mike Adams, Marcus Gilbert, Curtis Brown, Thaddeus Gibson, Chris Carter, Landry Jones, Chris Scott, Alameda Ta’Amu, Chris Rainey. Enough said.

  96. Daquido_Bazzini says:

A bad, bad day in the NFL….Bad!
I can’t think of a day where the outcomes were worse in recent years.

Steelers ….. To let a mediocore South Florida team go to Pittsburgh in icy conditions and win….Pitiful!

Ravens and Pats with miracle wins…..Sheesh.
The good news is that both of them can’t go to the Super Bowl.

In the meantime….Dictator Deluxe Roger Goodell can sit on his couch (half asleep and shirtless) and decide what pick to dock the Steelers next April.
Must be nice to torture paying customers…..

  97. Steelag70 says:

How ironic is it that a certain OC who supposedly “retired” a couple years ago, may actually make the playoffs his first two years in a HC role…another great move by this organization.

  98. Rbilak says:

    1. Several Scouts were at the game and rumor has Sanders getting 100 million dollar contract so Colbert, you won’t be able to sign him. Of course I am starting the rumor. Seriously he makes my all time most disliked player list.

    2. Coach OBVIOUS, the master of clock management. Sounds like the real Tomlin is back at Press conference.

    3. Those rumors of Gilbert looking good on film, to bad he looks bad in game, he was destroyed today.

    4. Ryan Clark was leading with helmet all day, only guy he hit though was Taylor.

    5. Heyward, Cotchery, Bell, Worilds all played well. To bad Cotchery and Worilds will be doing it for other teams next year. Why would either come back to this team? Why Bell did not get more runs in second half is why Todd Haley should get a Will Work for Food sign this off-season, day one.

    6. Can someone explain to Colbert what a punter does?

    7. No more Sanders, Wheaton should start next week, Moye gets a helmet and Sanders can practice for dancing with stars.

Sorry Tomlin poor coaching again today, gotta know what your doing on 4th down. Burning timeout and then giving The same STANDARD excuse is OBVIOUSLY lack of preparation. TREND. Hope the Rooney’s enjoy the empty seats and God-All making them look like fools.

  99. Rbilak says:

I would love for fans to start a Godell chant on the Sunday Night game. That would be worth going to.

  100. sluggo13 says:

Officiating in the Ravens-Vikings game was just as bad. As usual, ravens get a phantom PI penalty to keep their drive alive.

Then the phantom call in the NE game.

Plus, the officials in the Steelers game let Miami run at least ten seconds off the clock when ben was sacked.

  101. Steelag70 says:

Lack of preparation seems to be a theme with MT…

  102. Sarah says:

Been saying that for a few years now. How many games a year do the Steelers come out on fire, vs the nbr of times they just seem flat and take a qtr or two to get focused?

  103. Steelag70 says:

DJ….why can’t Tomlin and Colbert be on the chopping block?

  104. DJ says:

On game/clock management, Tomlin has always been too dismissive of the media’s questions on the topic, as if he thinks that it’s a relatively unimportant thing in the scheme of winning or losing a game. He’s delusional.

How in the world the OC does not know what plays he’ll be calling on both 3rd and 4th downs when we need to keep a drive alive is absolutely mind-boggling.

Speaking of the OC, too little Bell in second half. Would rather see him swinging out of the backfield or more use of Heath down the seams than any play to Sanders late in the game.

I can see Cotchery coming back. I can see Worilds going to the highest bidder.

More Wheaton, yes. Moye is not an NFL player unless he puts 15-20 lbs of muscle on in off season.

Drafting in Rounds 2 — 5 in the last three years: Mike Adams, Marcus Gilbert, Curtis Brown, Thaddeus Gibson, Chris Carter, Landry Jones, Chris Scott, Alameda Ta’Amu, Chris Rainey. Enough said.

  105. DJ says:

The Rooneys are not going to fire Tomlin. Not going to happen. Period.

What Tomlin needs to do, however, is a lot of self-assessment. Or the Rooneys need to make him do a lot of self-assessment, if he’s unwilling.

  106. Rbilak says:

No one can question Coach OBVIOUS on time management. He knows time management like he knows the sideline rules. Tomlin does not have the ability to look ahead at how taking a time out can cost a game. 21 games without 100 yard rusher. Could have had one today.

  107. DJ says:

    Agreed.

On the off season, we’re going to need to keep Worilds and to sign Heyward before his 4 yrs is up. Both have have proven themselves this year.

If we think we have many holes that need to be filled right now, if we don’t sign those two, there will be more empty yellow seats than patrons sitting in them next year. It’s going to be a very ugly next few years.

  108. It didn’t feel like this team had it from the very beginning. I don’t like to quit on them, but this team is very flawed and lacking.

  109. Bizrow says:

And lots of injuries, with little depth

  110. theplanisworking says:

    WOO HOO !!!

Pitt will face Bowling Green on Thursday, Dec. 26th at 6 PM in the Little Caesars Bowl in Detroit.

  111. Thundercrack says:

You are preparing to be underwhelmed again.

  112. pattonbb says:

This team has a few holes, but when you add poor coaching/poor game management to the mix, those holes become an abyss.

There’s no heat on Tomlin yet. But a couple more games of getting out coached by the Joe Philbins and Dennis Allens of the league will definitely start a fire.

  113. theplanisworking says:

    Yes I am.

  114. Bizrow says:

It will take another season of that.

I think Tomlin is pretty sharp, he will adapt.

Failure sharpens you if you got the stuff.

Hopefully, the whole organization has the stuff

  115. Bizrow says:

So that crosses off one day till ST ;-)

  116. Thundercrack says:

    Biz
I would be in favor of them committing to younger guys like Heyward and Worilds and getting their cap situation better by cutting older vets…especially on D

Plus I’m not impressed with their wide receivers either.

  117. Bizrow says:

Agree with you TC, they have to get the cap in order. They have most definitely mortgaged the future with all the big signings.

We as fans have had a very nice run.

I have no trouble with the “rebuilding” thing.

And WRs, crap, looking at things, I’d rather have the draft pick for Sanders right now.

A lady I worked with knows Moye and their family personally, so I pull for him.

Any word from Dejan as to where we can post PBC stuff during the winter meetings?

  118. Eric Bowser says:

    Steelers needs….

Offense: Left tackle, Wide Receiver, and Tight End
Defense: Defensive Tackle, Defensive End, Inside LB, Safety, and two corners
    Special Teams: Punter

  119. Thundercrack says:

    Biz
quit trying to get me in trouble.

    :-)

  120. Bizrow says:

No, I think Dejan will blame it on me ;-)

For the life of me though, I do not know why lunatics cannot talk about any and all sports, or most anything else on this blog

The darn thing started as a baseball blog, IMO, no one stuck to that then

JAL adds posts about most everything, and its much appreciated

I read Travis, I read, sometimes, Rossi

This is home, to me, anyways

Plus, you will get your own self in trouble ;-)

    See you tomorrow

    What day is it, anyways??

  121. Drew71 says:

Uh oh. BGSU has molded itself into a very good team as the season progressed. One of the hottest teams in football over the last third of the season. I had em as a straight out upset over then-undefeated NIU, forget the points.

    So. Trouble for pitt.

  122. Drew71 says:

I’m sure Dejan will tell you exactly where to post it, Biz.

  123. twentytwo22 says:

Tied for 10th in the draft. We have that to look forward to.. 5 months from now.

  124. JohninOshkosh says:

NBC would do wise to give Carrie Underwood the heave ho and hire her “Sound of Music” co-star, Audra McDonald.

Watched it the other night and McDonald’s voice completely blew away the former “American Idol” winner.

  125. Bizrow says:

I think he has, many times

    But I’m not leaving

  126. Bizrow says:

Is that less than 66 or so days?

    Just saying

  127. Ghost says:

    Biz,
Just do what I do and post Pirate stuff anyway. DK told me to “branch out” and it kind of made for a funny meme for the day, but that was about it. Heck, just below John posts about Carrie Underwood. (And Carrie Underwood posts — even when about “heave ho-ing” her, are always worthwhile posts in my book. )

  128. Bizrow says:

    ++++++++++++

  129. Bizrow says:

    Thanks Ghost

    Its funny

Crap, for responding, now I probably got you in trouble

  130. Bizrow says:

    Pitt never wins bowl games

Put the doggies on BGSU, if you are into gambling

    Or Carrie Underwood

  131. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  132. theplanisworking says:

You forgot OC, HC, and GM.

  133. Jeff King says:

What a mess this team has become and sad at the same time. We have to hope for the flukiest of plays to almost win a game.
I thought 4 years ago we had grown too old to compete. I was proven wrong back then, but when you see missed tackles by guys like Troy and team after team effortlessly drive down the field in key situations it’s just really sad.
It’s not as if they’re not giving 100 percent (at least to this point), they just no longer have the talent.

  134. Chuck H says:

Yes,but the Steelers don’t seem to draft the good players.

  135. Chuck H says:

If they had a good defense, the Steelers would have won that game on Sunday. We got ahead in the fourth quarter. but couldn’t stop the Dolphins from coming right back with a score. I hope that we select some good players in the draft.
Get rid of Tomlin, Haley and Big Ben. We need a mobile qback.
