  5. Pucknutz says:

    Hey Biz,
    Nominations for ya:
This mornings thread got me thinkin bout these two
    Vince Lascheide and John Barbaro

  6. 21sthebest says:

I can’t ever forget these immortal words from David Puddy, especially when we’re playing the Devils.

“No, I said no more face painting, and as you can see this is not my face.”

  7. Bizrow says:

    Good choices, any seconds?

  8. Bizrow says:

    Anyone remember Art McKennan?

I can still hear his voice

Batting 3rd for the Pirates, and playing Right Field, Number 21, Roberto Clemente

  9. Pucknutz says:

Ya Biz, I do – old fart that I am!!! lol

  10. Bizrow says:

    Rays resign James Loney

Sigh, is Jeff Clement still playing ;-)

  11. Bizrow says:

Sorry, David Puddy does not make the HOF ;-)

Who the heck is David Puddy?

    Frank’s hair coordinator?

  12. theplanisworking says:

Sure. They also brought many memories to/for Pittsburgh sports fans.

  13. Heard an interview with him once, Biz. He said he just loved the game and enjoyed announcing and being around it.

I can hear his voice even today.

  14. 24/7 tweeted, who now, Davis, Moreland, Lind? Then he said he meant Smoak instead of Davis and he is the best option. I have to agree.

    He had a hashtag #hewhohesitates

  15. Eric Bowser says:

Thornton situation still pending. If the NHL was in charge of an investigation on whether Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, it would probably take them a week for that too.

Sorry, this Jagr was once a Penguin superstar and we shouldn’t boo him theme in the last two days seems awfully weak in the face of that Jagr video above where he had ample opportunity to be reflective on his career in Pittsburgh and maybe lend a hand out to the fans for his pouting and ‘dying alive’ attitude in the last year of his tenure. Maybe he would acknowledge his decision to select the Flyers over a third line role on the team wasn’t the best way to endear himself with the fans. Let’s remember, many of those fans at Consol were not fans back in the 90s.

So if you boo Jagr, I think you are well within your right to do so. Just sucks it had to come down to this after #JagrWatch.

  16. BillyBaduka says:

    LOL

I don’t think 21 was nominating Puddy (as he referred to himself).

David Puddy is a Seinfeld character and Devils fan that went from painting his face to his chest when Elaine Benes told him not to paint his face. Great episode, if that show is up your alley.

I think 21 was just mentioning him because Pens play the Devils tonight.

This new blog format makes it more difficult to tell which posts are a response on some mobile devices.

  17. theplanisworking says:

Sure. They also helped bring good moments to Pittsburgh sports fans.

  18. Cobra39 says:

Loney 3/$21 million. Are you effing kidding me, Pirates?

Tabata and Gaby Sanchez it is then. Cheapest owner in sports.

  19. Eric Bowser says:

I really don’t mind right-field situation being Tabata, Snider and Lambo until Polanco is up in June. The issue is first base being a disaster but 3-years for a player (Loney) that has been a career disappointment at the plate is too many years for me.

The issue that I have is the length of time Huntington is taking to address their desperate need for first base. Now free agency options are gone and every other GM knows the team needs a 1B and will demand much more for their bat than what is deserved.

Fully expect to see Justin Wilson moved.

  20. hockeymonster says:

Anyone see that card carrying member of the KDUU known as Burke emerge from his cave in Calgary? Flames are in great hands…

  21. Eric Bowser says:

    Penguins lineup…

    Defense:
    Maatta – Letang
    Niskanen – Engelland
    Despres – Bortuzzo

    Forwards:
    Kunitz – Crosby – Dupuis
    Jokinen – Malkin – Megna
    Conner – Sutter – Vitale
    Adams – Sill – Kobasew

    Goalies:
    Starter – Fleury
    Backup – Zatkoff

  22. Eric Bowser says:

He’s going to find some guy who will assemble a team of cement heads, just like he did in Anaheim, Vancouver, and Toronto.

  23. NastyNate82 says:

Breathe pal. Offseason ain’t over yet. Think about it this way…if they signed James Loney, he would replace Martin as the richest FA contract the Bucs have given out. Don’t think he’s worth that.

  24. NastyNate82 says:

Outsider’s view on Jagr here. I’m a Rangers fan (dodge, dip, dive, duck, and dodge the rotten vegetables thrown at me) and I’d like to take issue with a few comments that people said he never “carried” a team to a higher place than it should have been. Jagr basically made me a hockey fan after the previous lockout. The Rangers were widely thought of to be the worst team in hockey coming out of the lockout, and Jagr stated that they would surprise people. He had perhaps one of his best years, finishing 2nd in the league in points and leading them to a very surprising playoff birth. Basically, him and Lundqvist were the primary reasons for the Rangers becoming relevant (or semi-relevant) again.
As far as Pittsburgh fans booing him, that’s before I moved here, and I suppose I just don’t understand it. He’s been a great player for the franchise (probably the best European player ever) and I feel a bit odd judging him by decisions he’s made to not come back or to leave in the first place. To each their own, but I think DK is right in that his contributions to the franchise shouldn’t be minimized because of how he left.

  25. theplanisworking says:

    Wow! That didnt take long.

1-0 good guys thanks to Duper.

  26. Pucknutz says:

    Ye old pickle stabber!!!

  27. theplanisworking says:

Reverend, do you think there are any good options left?

  28. Eric Bowser says:

Great officiating as Schneider never had the puck frozen.

Dupuis pokes it in, 1-0 Pens.

    … if Malkin scores there…

  29. theplanisworking says:

I would just like to say that the 2 big trades this offseason/ beginning of the season, Vanek to the Isles, and Schneider to the Devils…………… they dont appear to be too good.

Early quotes were the devils and isles were “huge winners”.
Now, it doesnt look like that is the case.
    Thoughts?

  30. Barb says:

Great beginning let’s keep it going.

  31. NastyNate82 says:

I think Schneider has done well, I thought Errey said that his losses have mostly resulted in little support. The Vanek trade was just odd by the Isles and looks really stupid as the Sabres might get two top 10 picks this year, I think.

  32. Barb says:

    Yes! Love hearing that horn!

  33. theplanisworking says:

    SUTTER?

    2-0 good guys.

  34. Eric Bowser says:

Devils running around, very strange to see them this bad defensively. Conner wide open for a goal.

  35. theplanisworking says:

I just get a little curious about any trade that is considered a “sure thing” when its announced.

Just was thinking out loud, I guess.

  36. Eric Bowser says:

The breakout being used by the Penguins a few times tonight has been outstanding.

  37. Pucknutz says:

Tape to tape – sniper shot -Connner
For some strange reason (couple of those just stunned not dead brain cells of mine kicked in for a second)—
Chuck Conners of the old Rifelman TV show flashed for a sec …..
Ya , I am not right.

  38. theplanisworking says:

Eric, to your point about the slowness about Thornton’s hearing/punishment………….. I just searched multiple websites, and nothing. Wonder why the delay?

Only thing I could find is it is supposed to be announced tomorrow.
I would say thats odd, but its the NHL.

  39. theplanisworking says:

Well, the days off certainly have helped the Pens.
    Megna! 3-0 good guys.

  40. Barb says:

Okay what odds do you give that Schneider will be in goal in the 2nd period? Hmmmmmm?

  41. Eric Bowser says:

Pens top 2 lines are unstoppable at moment… imagine if they had a 3rd line… oh wait, they even scored tonight.

Megna, great work for 3-0 lead.

  42. theplanisworking says:

If he gives up another goal. zero % chance.

    If he doesnt, 90% chance.

And, I cant think of any good Yogi Berra quotes to apply here……..

  43. Pucknutz says:

According to Rossi on the pre-game the NHL is being very cautious with this because of the concussion law suites. He says they do want to get this one right. Especially because this one was (and I don’t know if I am saying this correctly) “in the course of play related”.
He made it sound like he expects the NHL to come down VERY hard on this one. May not even be till Sunday.
That is my take on it — anybody else see it – comments?

  44. Where’s Jandy? Waxing the pitbull or brushing the Shelby? Or versa visa?

  45. Pucknutz says:

Thats NOT in the course of play- correction

  46. theplanisworking says:

I am all for them delaying it until March, if it means they come down hard on Thornton.
Just eager to see what they do.

  47. theplanisworking says:

    Meh.

So, reverend, how about those Olympics upcoming?

  48. Pucknutz says:

Prolly depends on the quantity of adult beverages the 9 wides are holding up ! lol

  49. hockeymonster says:

    Ha or both?

  50. hockeymonster says:

Good breakouts indeed Eric. Disco stretch where are you?

  51. Eric Bowser says:

Pirates have officially signed Edinson Volquez and Clint Barmes, thus DFA’s Jerry Sands and Ryan Reid.

  52. Pucknutz says:

Pens almost had more zone time than the Devils on that kill !!!
    Cool

  53. Barb says:

Okay let’s not see how fast that the Devils can tie the game. Sheesh!

  54. Pucknutz says:

    Double Sheesh !!

  55. Barb says:

    Nice change of subject!

  56. Eric Bowser says:

Dupuis takes a shot up high… no call.

Want to sue the NHL, great way to win is saying they have officiating that isn’t prepared or willing to enforce the rules.

  57. Jandy says:

    + Many

  58. Jandy says:

hey now…the putt bull’s name is Shelby…seriously lol
And I only had ONE Long Island Iced Tea ;)

  59. Jandy says:

These refs are intent on getting the Devils back in the game, and maybe giving it to them

  60. Jandy says:

And I LOVED the hit Sill put on Volchenkov :)

  61. theplanisworking says:

Um, this was way up above ^^^.
It is Friday the 13th after all……….

  62. Wild Bill says:

What the heck is going on??? A 3 – zip lead and that was one of the worst periods I’ve seen the Pens play this season.

  63. Sarah says:

How is Thornton sit STILL pending?
    WTH????

    Shanny WTH?

  64. Barb says:

Oops. Who has egg on their face right now?

  65. Jandy says:

    :sigh: indeed

  66. Looking forward to the curling.

  67. Sarah says:

I have to say I have NO IDEA why the NHL would continue to delay. Of course the concussion lawsuit is out ther….as it was before the incident, and after…..
They have had a WEEK to review this.
What on God’s earth could cause further delay ? Are they just hoping for a slow-news weekend?

  68. You had how many? Putt bull? Your dog plays golf?

  69. Eric Bowser says:

    WHAT a SAVE by FLEURY!

  70. Pucknutz says:

Off to the races – Flower holding the fort !!!

  71. Jandy says:

LOL SPunky, sounds like you were hitting that Kentucky Bourbon ;)

  72. Jandy says:

He’s standing on his head, keeping them in the lead in this game…c’mon Sid or Geno…SCORE!

  73. Pucknutz says:

    is the blog broke???

  74. Pucknutz says:

Well maybe not completely broke – just stunned – have no idea where this one is gonna go

  75. theplanisworking says:

Puckz, I dont know where this will end up, as I am responding to your 9:13 post, but……………..

Fleury is saving the day so far,
and yes, the blog is acting funny again.

  76. Jandy says:

I’m sure it’s my fault since I was late getting here…

  77. Pucknutz says:

    I am REAL SURE!!! LOL

  78. Barb says:

WOW oh WOW. MAF playing out of his head. Yikes.

  79. Drew71 says:

Thanks everyone who commented, bold and otherwise on the morning thread. A wild and wonderful day, though glad to be back. Just about ready to crash.

  80. Jandy says:

    LOL Puckers!! Pfffft! :P

  81. Jandy says:

It was a fun thread :) Welcome home…go crash :)

  82. theplanisworking says:

Well, that was a furious final 10 minutes.

Fleury should be first star of the game.
Now, off to Detroit tomorrow night.

Tomorrow is supposed to be Thorntons announcement.
    Night all.

  83. Jandy says:

    he sure was!!!

  84. Jandy says:

    Sweet dreams, Hipposter… :*

  85. Drew71 says:

And I see that little kiss I had broke the blog.

  86. Pucknutz says:

2 Points – lousy second period actually made the third quite entertaining!
Did they think they had in the bag after the first? Or did jersey just suck it up?
Flower saves em – tighten up guys – Hockey Town on the morrow!

  87. Jandy says:

WOW…Vitale with 7 hits..and 6-0 on faceoffs good stuff Joe!

  88. I’m only sorry that the

  89. I’m just sorry that the last encounter with the Devils this season is on December 31 in New Jersey since we’re 3-0 against them and the Pens have played some of their best hockey against them.

  90. I just read that Steelers fans are the saddest fans in pro football right now for obvious reasons, and that article also says they’re the happiest when the Steelers win and the most unhappy when the Steelers lose, or so it’s been said, anyhow.

  91. The Pens were out shot 38-23 and dominated by the Devils during the second half before the Pens closed ranks during the third quarter and M.A. Fleury shut them down, so, overall, I was relieved that it ended when it did and the way it did.

  92. And furthermore, Malkin and Crosby got off only one shot each, and they’ll have to do better than that versus Detroit tonite.
