  1. For the sake of my Pittsburgh friends (if they are willing to own up to it), this is a prediction I wouldn’t mind getting wrong.

But I have BGSU by two scores.

I don’t usually mind being wrong. That’s how I’ve stayed married for 87 years.

  2. The odds are definitely long for a Pitt upset although that doesn’t mean one should quit hoping for such. Happy New Year anyhow!

  3. As one of the legions of frustrated Pitt fans, all I’m asking for is a clean game. It’ll be a lot easier for me to deal with the outcome, regardless of the score…because I do believe in the potential for them to win, but it will take a clean game.

    H2P

  4. I believe Pitt is 29-3 against the MAC. I’ll play those odds over the current Vegas line (Pitt +6.5).

  5. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but I’m looking forward to this game. Pitt has had some time to heal and I’m interested in seeing how well the team performs with Chryst having a few weeks to prepare.

  6. I feel like I would be derelict in my duties as a Pitt fan if I didn’t point out the potential for this to spiral into an unmitigated disaster.

  7. Pitt cheerleaders made the trip to enjoy festivities in Detroit during the last week in December.

  8. Just a few little notes:

    - Three players (Matt Rotheram, Bryan Murphy & Malcom Crockett) decided not to show up because of “personal reasons”. Crockett will transfer.

    - They are only dressing 1 backup offensive lineman.

    - They are subbing arguably their best running back, James Conner, in at defensive end.

  9. Celebrity alums of BGSU include Tim Conway (Dorf!), Ric Ocasek, the great Eva Marie Saint and Doc Emrick.

Pitt scores with nice response to BGSU FG. 7-3 Panthers.

  10. By missing most of the 1st quarter, and reading some of the above comments, I was expecting Pitt to be losing 21-0.

But I turned on the TV as soon as Conner scored. Not bad for a defensive end?

As a proud Pitt alum, I am glad to see Pitt in a bowl.
As a disgusted Pitt alum, I am not glad to see Pitt in a minor bowl (again), after a 6-6 season (again), with a clueless AD at the helm (again).

    But LET’S GO PITT!
    EAT THAT PIZZA !!!

    :D

  11. If Pitt is looking for defensive ends moving forward I have a suggestion. RECRUIT SOME.

    • I dont want to spoil my very fine Buffalo Chicken Dip, so please let’s not remind me of Chryst’s recruiting.

With Street, Savage, and Donald leaving, I do not even want to think of next year, because I dont know what he is going to field.

Wonder what the Stache is doing?……….

  12. Pitt leads in Vegas 13.5-3

  13. Bowling Green’s QB went to high school at Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg. They beat my alma mater for the 1995 AA state championship. Therefore, I badly want him to fail. Plus, he has a big mouth.

  14. More Bowling Green alumni…….

FIRE Dan Bylsma, Robert Patrick (from the Terminator films), Orel Hershheiser, umpire Jim Joyce, and a couple Miss Ohio’s.

Cant lose to a school with that pedigree…………….. ;)

  15. Bowling Green may have taken Pitt lightly. (Just wanted to see if it looked as ridiculous in print as it sounded when I said it.)

  16. Tyler Boyd. Wow.

  17. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!
    Boyd is a player!

    17-3 good guys!!!

  18. I’ll let somebody else ask why he hasn’t been back there all year. :)

  19. Is it just me or does Pitt look pretty good so far ?

Boyd returns punt for TD! 17-3 Pitt.

    23.5-3 at Caesar’s Palace.

    • That thing moved 2.5 points in the last day or so. The “smart” guys must have gotten word on all the guys that were injured & AWOL. That’s a big old oops so far.

    • I think Chryst got in players’ ears after the Miami fiasco, and reminds them daily they are a touchdown underdog to BOWLING GREEN.

Just wish this message had gotten thru most of the year.

    • I think Chryst got in players’ ears after the Miami fiasco, and reminds them daily they are a touchdown underdog to BOWLING GREEN.

Just wish this message had gotten thru most of the year.

  20. Who are the announcers for this game? They are horrible!

  21. Aaron Donald has carried this defense all year. He just gave Bowling Green 7 points & got then right back in the game.

  22. Tyler Boyd with an NFL caliber catch. :)

  23. And no flag ? Really ? What a catch !

  24. Savage needs this halftime.

  25. Paul Chryst must have promised that timeout to someone.

  26. Attention all Penn State recruits. Bill O’Brien will interview with the Texans.

  27. Looks like Tom Savage is done. He must be really hurt. What a tough kid. Let the Chad Voytik era begin.

    Wish it was still 17-3.

  28. Not a Pitt player even close on that return.
If Voytik comes in, I see bad things.
    If we can see him…….

  29. Voytik has had trouble with snaps & exchanges.

  30. Well, looks like ol’ momentum is gone from Pitt’s side.

  31. Ugh, I run out to get dinner and this happens. Things do not look good, campers.

  32. Has Chris Wuestner caught a pass ? Ever ? I’m including the ones that have gone right through his hands.

  33. Nikki Noto needs to turn down the volume a bit.

  34. This is like when Pat Bostick would come in & Shady would have to win the game himself.

  35. WUESTNER !

  36. Conner is awesome.

  37. For those of you screaming for Voytik–well you got him. He is precisely why you CANNOT win in the ACC with two star recruits. The difference between he and Tyler Boyd is obvious, even by the Voytik cheerleaders.
You do NOT coach up two star recruits to four star players.

  38. Can the secondary cover anyone??

  39. I feel sorry for guys who have to tackle Conner. A bit of Ron Dayne in him.

  40. I was expectimg a NAC sweep tonight.

  41. OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. Chad Voytik………….

    small in stature,
    big in heart.

  43. What a drive by the FOUR star recruit out of TN, Chad Voytik, the deep throw on a line as good as you will see for 62 yards to Boyd and than the TD run by Voytik puts Pitt up 27-20.

    Huge drive!

    • Not to pick nits here, but I do remember now Voytik was a 4 star recruit. However, if he couldnt beat out Savage, who was a transfer who didnt have a better grasp of the offense, that doesnt speak well for Mr. Voytik.

But, barring a JC transfer coming in, he looks to be the starting QB.
I hope Chryst designs a gameplan to fit Voytik’s strengths.

  44. GO PITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  45. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  46. Tyler Boyd – 173 yards receiving yards breaks Pitt’s all time bowl record set by Gordon Jones in the 1977 Gator Bowl.

  47. Just an aside, I don’t care how many stars they are. Can they play, that’s all that matters. I rank recruiting classes on Senior Day. Florida St. & Auburn had real good ones 4 years ago.

  48. Voytik showing the running ability, like his ability to scramble….reminds me a bit of Tyler Palko watching him.

Conner just roughing up the BG defense today, all day.

  49. James Conner breaks Tony Dorsett’s bowl rushing record. Some big names falling tonight. Pretty good for a defensive end.

  50. Now, cover this kick please.

  51. Connor’s running style reminds me a bit of Ironhead Heyward.

  52. Well the offense muscles its way down field for three to give Pitt the lead back. Defense needs to secure this win now.

  53. James Conner just got held pressuring the QB.

  54. The effort Conner has given Pitt today on both sides of the ball is truly special to watch. What a remarkable effort he has turned in for Pitt, one of the best single game performances I’ve witnessed.

And the four award winner, all everything lineman Donald may have just sealed it with his sack.

  55. 4th & 40.

  56. This is why you go to bowl games, no matter how “minor.”

Pitt got a good look at next year’s QB and RB. Played in a competitive game. All set for spring practice.

    Well done, Pitt.

    • Fun game.

    • +16, +40

Pitt needed this, very nice way to finish the season for Coach Chryst and these kids. Voytik had a huge spring game last year had a huge second half in a bowl game now to build off of and is big experience for a young kid to get.

  57. What a nice way to cap this winning season for Paul Chryst and the Panthers. Voytik shines in the second half, the defense made the plays when it needed, Boyd is a superstar and Conner is just a football player.

Certainly a lot of positives to head into spring ball with and some momentum for a program that needs some.

  58. Happy to be wrong.

    Corner-turning season.

  59. WE’RE NUMBER PIZZA !!!!

    Wait, nice win for Pitt.
This is why you play the games.

  60. These are few & far between. Over fate and foe victorious. Hail To Pitt.

  61. I feel bad that Tom Savage couldn’t finish what he started. But it’s better going forward that Chad Voytik had to win this game.

  62. Rivals listed James Conner as a 3-star weakside defensive end. He also had offers from Bowling Green (oops), Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Toledo & Youngstown State.

Recruiting is obviously an exact science.

  63. Who were all these DB’s that I don’t remember seeing most of the year? And did Pitts get injured at some point? He didn’t seem to be playing much, or else they weren’t throwing to his side at all.

    Kevin

  64. Who cares? Dejean is a moron. The subject matter is inconsequential. Just read DiPaolo if you want to learn something.

  65. This might be the last Pizza Bowl since the Detroit Lions are now in the bowl business and might decide to host a bowl next year, and so, for Pitt’s sake, this was a great way to end that particular post season event.
