  1. Jim S. says:

The Dupuis loss hurts. Once we get back close to our full complement of D-men, do we look to move some young talent on the back line for a new wingmate for Sid?

  2. Excellent Chipped Ice blog report by Rob Rossi on the Dupuis injury and status for Pens.

    I recommend strongly.

  3. Pucknutz says:

Ya Groat, Rossi sums it up very well. Devastating loss for the Pens and Duper!

  5. Sarah says:

I think RS has to do something. Gaping holes at W on top 2 lines and BB can only fill one of them.

Such bad luck for Duper though, a great guy and team player. Ugh. Heal fast, Dupes.

  6. Sarah,

Left you a comment on other thread around 4:30

  7. Is this the Texas Bowl thread?

Or the Fight Hunger Bowl thread?

I hope that’s a world-wide outreach to fight hunger because, as many Food Stamps as we issue in our little county here in KY, there really shouldn’t be any hunger in the U.S. of A. comparably speaking. Unless it’s elderly people on a fixed income who get the shaft on that kind of thing. (IMHO)

  8. Pucknutz says:

    LETS GO PENS !!

  9. Vette60 says:

    Thanks!

Heard the news first when Rossi was on with Stan today – really a tough break for Duper and the Pens…

Hoping that with his dedication to training that he has shown over the years he is able to make it back.

The Chipped Ice blog does lay it out there well – both a short term issue – what to do now and a longer term on in who is playing on the top 6 in the future….Looks like one of the young d-men will be in play as part of a trade. Hope it works on nearly as well as the Gogo for Niskie/Neal steal (or I mean deal).

    Take care.
    Randy in RVA.

    Reverend,

Let’s just say, we as a country are not doing well on many fronts.
I wont politicize, but there are many things that could be done, just no one in power wants to do them. That is the real shame.

  12. theplanisworking says:

    Indeed !

Absolute shame about Duper…………. may put a damper on his career (speed).

  13. Vette60 says:

For those who are interested in such things…

Today is the anniversary of Le Magnifique’s return to the ice in 2000. Stan was talking about it today on the air and it brought back quite a few memories…will always remember how I felt when I first heard he was coming back – couldn’t believe it, jaw hit the floor type moment.

To see him take the ice again and the pregame ceremony with Austin and his 66 coming down from the rafters at the Igloo was awesome! Then to tally a point 33 seconds in and score a goal! It was like he never left…what a truly special talent; we have really been so lucky for the last 30 years to have such skilled and special players on our beloved Pens!

Take care and Let’s go PENS!

    Randy in RVA.

  14. Good points. We had a food bank at our church here for a couple years and we added clothing to it. But the local government starting using the same source as us, so we had to shut down the food part. The clothing part got out of hand and became a dumping ground, so we took everything to Goodwill and the SA.

While I’m griping, does it bother anyone else that all these college teams butcher their uniforms these days?I’m not saying I like Penn State’s plainness, but there is something to be said for it and the tradition. Kind of like Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin and even Michigan. No frills and fluky stuff like Maryland is doing today or Oregon is famous for.

  15. Bizrow says:

    Re – Amazing talent

I’m 63, when I think of how I have been so lucky to see all the amazing atheletes play in the burgh,

Well, doesn’t get better than that ;-)

  16. Pucknutz says:

Hey Biz, just rolled over 63 myself !!! lol
Double ditto to above comment…. cept … it may get even better— some of these “kids” are pretty amazing ! :)

  17. Today is also the day that Babe Ruth was traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees in 1919.
    Most amazing baseball trade ever?

Goodness! Imagine if ESPN had been around then! They would be so round-the-clock Sox/Yankees that no other scores would be mentioned ever. Of course, in December, what other scores would there be to mention then.

Dejan would be talking about the 1920 Olympics, of course.

Hershell Walker most amazing trade in football?

  18. Bizrow says:

The best may be yet to come ;-)

  19. Bizrow says:

Drew would be talking about the SEC…

    And his poodles ;-)

  20. Bizrow says:

How about Rickey Williams? The herb running back that Ditka picked up

  21. JohninOshkosh says:

No brainer in hockey: Gretzky’s trade from Edmonton to LA. It even led to debate in the Canadian House of Commons. Ruined one franchise and invigorated hockey in sunny American states opening the door to NHL expansion.

Where have you gone, Jimmy Carson ?

  22. Bizrow says:

Did Gretzky ever win the Cup in LA? Just asking as I can’t remember

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

    Nope.

  24. Milo Hamilton says:

    Martin Gelinas.

  25. Milo Hamilton says:

He wasn’t a very good GM.

  26. scapper says:

ESPN’s coverage of the Ruth trade would lead with, “We go to so-and-so in Miami to get Lebron James’ take on this trade!”

  27. scapper says:

Ran into Patrick Roy in ’93 and no one was going to beat Roy that year.

  28. Scrappy Do,

    Made me laugh!

  29. Patrick Roy reminds me of Tom Barrasso —— arrogant!

  30. Milo Hamilton says:

I think John LeClair won every game in overtime.

  31. Milo Hamilton says:

    Chuck Kobasew is useless.

  32. I think that guy had anchors on his skates!

  33. theplanisworking says:

Yes, the Gretzky trade was a no-brainer regarding the NHL.

NFL? The Eric Dickerson trade involving the Bills, Colts and Rams. The Walker trade involved a lot of warm bodies, little quality.

NBA? Either the Kareem trade to the Lakers, or the McHale-Parrish trade to Boston for Joe Barry Carroll.

Baseball? Since Ruth was sold, not traded, I have a couple trades to consider. Brock to the Cards, Carlton to the Phillies, maybe Rayn from the Mets to the Angels. Tough calls.

    ========================================================

BTW Oshie, the Bucks have never really recovered from the Kareem trade.

  34. Milo Hamilton says:

Yep, those warm bodies included Emmitt Smith, Darren Woodson & Alvin Harper.

  35. Who started on Sid’s line with Kunitz?

  36. Milo Hamilton says:

    Joe Vitale.

  37. theplanisworking says:

The first place I referenced about that trade didnt have Smith as one of the players drafted. Apologies. I also thought Harper was overrated. But thanks for that shoutout.

And, didnt the Steelers trade their pick to Dallas, who selected Smith, and the Steelers took Eric Green?

  38. Milo Hamilton says:

    The Big Bird indeed !

  39. JohninOshkosh says:

You are absolutely right. KAJ wanted to play in NYC or LA. Was not Midwest guy. Bucks had some decent teams in the late 80′s and early this century. Just read an article about Don Nelson. He’s living in Hawaii. Living a stoner’s life with (pun intended) buds Willie Nelson and Woody Harrelson.

  40. toochca says:

    Plan,

    The short answer is yes.

Here is the details of the trade in question.

    http://www.vikingupdate.com/history/historyprofiles/thetrade.html#walkertraderesult

  41. theplanisworking says:

I am trying to remember why Kareem wanted out of Milwaukee. Was it regarding his Muslim faith?

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

If it’s Kareem it could only be one thing. $$$

  43. Sarah says:

What Disco could do for all us Pens fans (at a high level) is be less stubborn, and avoid being outcoached this playoffs as he has been for the last 4 years.

As I have been quite clear that my objections to Disco have LITTLE to do with regular season, and EVERYTHING to do with playoffs. Where it becomes a long 7 game series of adjustments.

If you want to see a blueprint for the way teams will play us this spring, just check out the last games vs BOS and OTT. Take liberties with Sid/ Malkin, our stars in general, get them off their game. Nobody responds.

I’ve been very clear re my objections to Disco for several years now. (As have others Bowser included…)

When you have an argument that addresses these points, go for it.

    Happy Christmas!

  44. Milo Hamilton says:

And besides, you try dragging Walton & Lanier up & down the court for 48 minutes.

  45. Brandie says:

Gotta get Jandy on that to kick his butt into gear!

  46. JohninOshkosh says:

    Great line.

  47. JohninOshkosh says:

It was a bit before time, Plan, but Milo’ s right, I think. Unless you are Farve, players playing in Wisconsin don’t get many movie deals.

  48. theplanisworking says:

Well, THAT was a disastrous end to the period.

  49. Nice defense with 1 second left.

Left Fleury hanging out to dry!

  50. Milo Hamilton says:

    That was craptacular.

  51. theplanisworking says:

I dont know if you are joking, or being serious, so I cant even comment on that statement.

I did find that Milwaukee “didnt fit his cultural needs”. Dont know if this was a religious, or entertainment thing. No article that I read stated the case either/or. I guess money could be considered “cultural”, also. It would but a lot of culture……….

  52. theplanisworking says:

Now THAT is a great way to open a period !

  53. theplanisworking says:

Now THAT isnt the way to play.

    Ugh………

  54. Abraham’s Pretend Sister,

Not fighting with you. I like your spunk.
I just don’t understand why you NEVER give Disco credit and find the cloud in every silver lining.

1/ Can’t even begin to deal with Playoff losses until the Playoffs. Regular season has little to do with. See Marc Andre Fleury for reference.

2/ Boston and Ottawa games were played without Engelland, Glass, and Orpik, our 3 toughest guys.
No one else on roster can respond physically. That’s not Bylsma’s fault. That’s Ray Shero.

3/ Sid and Geno are going to continue to be rousted and riled until they learn NOT to go crazy when that happens. They MUST be disciplined enough to stay ON their games. There is very little fighting in Playoffs in retaliation.

4/ Not one of Bylsma’s trademark and criticized long outlet passes led to a goal in the Boston series. Defense was outstanding. Offense from Sid, Geno, and Neal did not show up.

5/ If we are going to blame every failure on coaching, then we have to acknowledge their successes as well. We could be Washington or Carolina or Ottawa or the Rangers, you know!

Not grumping at you. Just don’t understand your one-note responses.

  55. Pucknutz says:

    Jeeze … step away for a moment .. 2 goals scored …. 1 good. 1 bad….

  56. Milo Hamilton says:

Good thing these guys stink or it would be about 6-1.

  57. Brandie says:

Sounds like a meh game! Those coming back seem like they will need to time to gel within the team again.

  58. Bizrow says:

Its not a lost cause yet, tonight

If the injuries stop, the Pens will be stronger come playoff time, even with no trades

  59. Sarah says:

Y’know what, your just referring to me as Abrahams Pretend Sister means that you’re not worth taking seriously.

  60. theplanisworking says:

Yes, what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.

I just cant remember a team that has consistent;y faced the number, and seriousness of said injuries. And, the Pens are up against the cap……. so lets see what the kids can do.

  61. theplanisworking says:

Oshie, in searching for Kareem stuff, I came across this.
Philly has had similar horror stories like these.
Please have a beer handy to cry into…………………

  62. Jandy says:

Is Carolina’s ice worse than ours? Jeez Louise, neither team can stay on their skates.

Who the heck are our Pens passing to? UGH the passing is atrocious.

Let’s hope SOMEBODY shows up the third period.

  63. Brandie says:

Good thing Jandstar showed up! :-) Glad you are having an excellent Christmas break. Your husband and family sound like real keepers!

  64. Brandie says:

Mischa is absolutely a heartbreaker! ;-)

  65. Jandy says:

    Amazing lol…The Hobbitt scores!!!

  66. theplanisworking says:

    GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL !!!

    Conner 1 on 5. :)

  67. theplanisworking says:

She didnt like the company she was with? ;)

  68. Jandy says:

Thanks Sistah! Hubby spoils me, I admit. My daughters are awesome…and Mischa is the best :)

  69. Wild Bill says:

The little guy gets it done!

  70. Jandy says:

Thanks Brandecita lol, she is adorable, if i say so myself.

Hipposter, if you had seen how sleepy she was, it was so darn cute!

  71. Brandie says:

    THE HOBBIT!!! PRICELESS!

  72. Jandy says:

Conner is Hobbitt #1 and Gibbons is Hobbitt #2
    My bad!

  73. JPens says:

Time to get Mile Camalari from Calgary for a D man.

  74. Jandy says:

I would like to see Jimmy Neal score a goal…really soon…

  75. Jandy says:

    SCIRE!!!!!

  76. Jandy says:

OK so I picked the wrong guy…

  77. Milo Hamilton says:

Great picture of Mischa. You were going on about Letang, weren’t you ? :)

  78. Brandie says:

SMOOCHES! I guess SCIRE! makes the blog hall of flub!

  79. Jandy says:

    Milo, you’re the best :)

  80. Jandy says:

POOP These guys just don’t want to win tonight

  81. Jandy says:

    :sigh: Overtime

  82. theplanisworking says:

The good: Pens keep fighting back. Playing solid despite the injuries.

The bad: Pens cant keep a lead, giving up soffffff goals.

    Lets get a quick goal.

  83. theplanisworking says:

Ask, and you shall receive !!!!!!!

  84. Jandy says:

ok so I just picked the wrong time…

  85. Wild Bill says:

    The real deal seals it!!

  86. Jandy says:

    I’ll go to sleep happy.
    Night Loonies!

  87. Brandie says:

Good Overtime Win! Remember, these wins do not have to be pretty and this one was anything but pretty! Every time out, there are parts of the game that need to be fixed for next time. I think the flow between the players and the suring up of assignments will be restored once the team becomes healthier. For now, I’m taking the W!

  88. Brandie says:

    Pleasant dreams my sparkly Jandstar!

  89. Jandy says:

haha Geno just beat up his friend Lazy ;)

  90. Jandy says:

    you too Sistah!

  91. Wild Bill says:

Good, solid road win off the break. Only better from here.

  92. Milo Hamilton says:

The Cleveland Browns have 5 players selected to the Pro Bowl and the NFL wonders why we don’t watch.

  93. Milo Hamilton says:

Bishop Sankey needs to be drafted by the Cardinals.

  94. The NFL has even talked about not holding the Pro Bowl at all. That’s how bad it’s gotten in that regard.

  95. They won last night in overtime although that workout freak Dupuis is out with a bad leg for the rest of the season, which speaks for their spirit and determination amyhow. Happy New Year!

  96. Well, at least James Neal came back to score the winning goal in overtime last night, and they’ve got more than enough to win their division. It’s just that it might be harder to get very far in the playoffs, that’s all.

  97. Ask the Rev. what Abraham’s Pretend Sister means. It’s from the Bible. It’s quite a compliment.

I tend to make “plays on a person’s name/handle” here as terms of endearment when I feel I have connected with them or I enjoy their posts. I enjoy your posts: you are knowledgeable.

However, a compliment is only a compliment if perceived thusly. Sorry you are not open to hearing them.
