  2. Sarah says:

Let’s see how much our Birds care about playing bottom-feeders with a squillion point division lead, right before the Olympic break…..

  3. tpbco says:

    Not to spread any rumors….

P A Parenteau is a health scratch for Colorado tonite….anybody know any teams out there that need a RW?

He is in year 2 of a 4 year deal paying $4mil/yr., and it’s suggest that it would be considered a “hockey trade” and the Avs are known to be looking for D help…

  4. Eric Bowser says:

Leave for a week, not much changed….

Secondary scoring is a problem but few are writing or talking about the root cause… horrendous draft and player development of forwards under Ray Shero and his front office staff. The highest scoring forward drafted by Shero and still in the organization is Beau Bennett with four goals in 38 games played.

  5. Sarah says:

The Sabres leading scorer has….29 points. Oy.

  6. Sarah says:

    Poor Ryan Miller.

  7. Eric Bowser says:

Parenteau… blah, he’s got a -4.82 On-Ice Corsi rating, 9 goals in 41 games isn’t exactly knocking the door down for me and that contract, ugh. Prefer to get someone younger too, he’s 30.

  8. Eric Bowser says:

He’ll be traded to a playoff contender. It seems like everyone is picking St. Louis because few like Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott on a team loaded at forward and defense.

  9. Sarah says:

Yah. I think Halak ok….Elliot is a 200+ pick who happened into a great defensive system.
Who knows maybe Ryan won’t know what to do in that kind of an environment lol!! Not every G thrives on 15 shots a game….

  10. Barb says:

Welcome home Eric. How was the weather at Disney?

  11. Pucknutz says:

Yes, hopefully they will focus a bit a play a solid game.

    LETS GO PENS !!

  12. theplanisworking says:

    Bowser, welcome back !!!!

Your thoughts on a potential Letang trade???

  13. Eric Bowser says:

Barb, it was a bit chilly…. Drew failed me there… but we had a great time as the Floridians obviously have a fear of cold, so we had easy time in and out of rides and shows.

  14. Pucknutz says:

Curious… Buffalo is 10th in the NHL in attendance at 96.7 % capacity.
Must have a ton of hard core “hockey fans” …. just love hockey…. must be tough as bad as the team is.

  15. theplanisworking says:

What else is there to do in Beefalo in winter?

  16. Eric Bowser says:

Should have happened before Shero signed him to that big deal.

Who spends millions for a supposed number one defensemen and then has to protect him with a veteran defensemen?

Letang needs to be traded for a scoring winger, not only for Crosby this year but they need help next season as Jokinen is a free agent. I’m not real thrilled with Bennett’s development or injury history, so he’ll need to work his way back into the top six mix after the Olympic break.

Haven’t really done a lot of thinking on the trade options but Edmonton comes to mind immediately because of their forward depth.

The problem is, Pens need a 1st line right-wing and 3rd line left-wing (prefer a veteran 2nd line winger who can score).

    Kunitz – Crosby – ?
    Jokinen – Malkin – Neal
    ? – Sutter – Bennett
    Glass – Vitale – Megna

Notice, I don’t have Adams in there. He’s old, slow and little offensive ability. More value in an offensive player or two getting PK time. Been saying for YEARS that Malkin should be on the PK. Watch him in the Olympics, he’ll get the PK assignment and probably score a SH goal or two. When I used to ‘scout his games in Russia watching the games online, he would just dominate the ice while on the PK because of his speed and size. The Penguins organization completely wasting his ability.

  17. theplanisworking says:

    Thank you.
Many said he shouldn’t have been signed to that albatross of a contract.

  18. 21sthebest says:

“Leave for a week, not much changed….”

    Yup.

  19. Pucknutz says:

Perhaps true….a bit cynical though….lotta northern cities get a bit rough in the winter.
They aint “sissy’s” bout the snow …. just keep on truckin. (boy, they do get a ton)
Small market, even including the Falls etc … I gotta give the fans a bunch of credit for hangin in there!

  20. Eric Bowser says:

I could have said not much has changed, Pirates don’t have a first baseman.

  21. Eric Bowser says:

Good movement on the PP for the Penguins, not sure what Glass did to get a high-sticking penalty… strange.

  22. Eric Bowser says:

    Pens vs Ryan Miller….

  23. Jandy says:

    +++++

  24. Jandy says:

    welcome home, Eric :)

  25. Can’t score on the Sabres either?

  26. Jandy says:

looks that way Revvie. YOu stayin warm???

  27. Jandy says:

Wish the Pens could afford him

  28. Semi, J-girl. Supposed to be single digits here tonight and highs in the teens tomorrow. Not complaining. It’s not as bad as yinz up there.

  29. theplanisworking says:

    Good evening, Reverend.
Hope you have your pets indoors.

  30. We are currently petless. Good thing or our garage would be totaled. Can’t have them inside. My wife’s breathing suffers.

  31. Eric Bowser says:

Real nice work by Crosby and Gibbons, Kunitz gets the empty net goal as Miller didn’t have a chance on that one.

    1-0 Pens

  32. Pucknutz says:

Ha…. hits DKs post first time …

  33. Pucknutz says:

    Yes

  34. Brandie says:

Finally the moratorium on goal scoring has been lifted.

  35. Jandy says:

to be -4 tonight wind chill -23 then -4 tomorrow night wind chill -21 :shivers:

  36. Jandy says:

    hehey y Brandecita :)

  37. Brandie says:

    Old evening Handy and all.

  38. Eric Bowser says:

    Glass to Engelland…… oh my….

    2-0 Pens

  39. Pucknutz says:

Speaking of clanging the iron….. if perchance DKs idea of just widening the net the width of the post would fly…..
how many more goals “would” actually be scored ??
Is there some stats geek outfit out here that really keeps track of the clangers????
We need “real” numbers on this before an important decision is made !!! LOL :)

  40. Brandie says:

Should say Good Evening. And no I am not inebriated posting again.

    Jandy not Handy.

  41. Jandy says:

LOL! Nice Brandie…Jandy typo disease in oodles ;)

  42. Jandy says:

    Oh Yours!

  43. Brandie says:

Wow. Hades must really be frozen over to get these two involved in the scoring.

  44. theplanisworking says:

Well, after that dud of a Pitt game, now I resume my Penguin watch.

  45. Brandie says:

    Good evening Planford and Son!

  46. Brandie says:

Back down to Earth come the Panthers. Now they know that there are more steps to make to truly be considered among the ACC Elite.

  47. theplanisworking says:

    Disappointing.
But Duke has all-stars every year, they just imposed their will tonight, and shot like 90% from the field, and from 3. (Slight exaggeration).

Coach Dixon needs to up his recruiting game. Having Rohrssen back will help.

  48. DJ says:

    With Letang, none.

Instead of missing the net by 10 feet, it would just be 9′ 9″.

  49. theplanisworking says:

Shouldn’t we fire Planford and Son?

  50. Pucknutz says:

LOL …. but I always thought that was more TK !!!

  51. Brandie says:

    Firing Letang sounds more exciting.

  52. Brandie says:

    Firing Letang sounds more exciting.

  53. Brandie says:

    Sorry for the double post.

  54. Eric Bowser says:

Hard to measure the impact by just pucks off the post because the change would force goalies to alter their angles and positioning against a shooter. Does a goalie opt to play it straight up and not change or does one start to move to the post and open up the far post by an extra puck length.

I saw DK’s column and don’t disagree with the single idea of increasing the size of the net, was one of my ideas back during the lockout. But like Dejan said, after the lockout, league actually forced their officials to call the rule book and offense returned because you couldn’t clutch and grab.

I believe the NHL needs to hire a designer and get protective form fitting equipment for goalies… no more of these excuses about the safety of goaltenders if you do it properly.

The size of the MLB catcher’s mitt is about 15 inches from top to bottom, up to 38 inches in circumference and they are catching 85-100 MPH pitches for 3 hours and 150 pitches per game.

Goalies are facing roughly the same speed of the puck as the baseball for the catcher, yet their equipment is way bigger and the rules are there to protect them… lol….

    The Rules…. http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26287

  55. DJ says:

    Him too.

  56. theplanisworking says:

That’s ok, it just means we get twice the Muppet.

Beefalo is a bad looking hockey team………

  57. DJ says:

I miss Dupuis. Team is just not the same without his speed, tenacity, back-checking ability, willingness to go to dirty areas.

And his loss has made matching the parts at lines 1, 3 and 4 more difficult than most anticipated.

  58. Jandy says:

    indeed

  59. Eric Bowser says:

3-0 win as Fleury leads the team to victory.

  60. theplanisworking says:

See? You come back, and Pens win! ;)

  61. Well, Pitt certainly let us down tonight on their home basketball court, but the Pens got some great saves from M. A. Fleury at the Consol Center so they could beat the Sabres, so all wasn’t lost.

  62. Brandie says:

Great to see the team got thee memo on how to handle your business like an actual team. Good job in net by Marc-Andre Fleury. No goalie fights is bonus. Did not find too many commenting about Letabg Anne other offenders playing sloppy d and irresponsible o by turning over the Puck too many tines or making ill advised passes. It seems like the Pens played a solid-all around game. What concerns ne is this teams lack of ability lately to maintain that consistent level of play. Let us hips that the pattern of a quality win followed by a horrendous loss does not continue ir the playoff exit will come early and swift.

  63. Anyhow, I didn’t watch the Pro Bowl yesterday although NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell opined on Mike and Mike this morning on ESPN that the game was a ‘real game’, that the players had ‘played harder’, and that it was a ‘positive step’, which was fine, considering that the Steelers’ lone representative: Antonio Brown didn’t have much chance to do anything.
