…..ball STILL makes a lot of noise in this EMPTY gym!!!! :-)

….Panthers need to get the ship back on course against the “U” tonight.

    HTP!

  2. Brandie says:

    Time to bounce back.

  3. Arriba Wilver says:

Hardly anyone at the game. Must be the weather in Miami.

  4. Lad 9 says:

Time to break this streak. Let’s go Pitt!

  5. Lad 9 says:

I have a friend who took a job in that area a few years ago. He moved there right before hoop season started. He told me that he got seats at mid-court a few rows from the floor with no trouble. Not a good sports town AW.

  6. Milo Hamilton says:

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m suffering from Jamie Dixon fatigue. It’s probably irrational, but it’s how I feel.

  7. Arriba Wilver says:

Miami already shooting bonus with a little more than 10 minutes in first half.

  8. theplanisworking says:

Fatigue from his coaching, or recruiting?

  9. Arriba Wilver says:

    Pitt’s really playing sloppy.

  10. Milo Hamilton says:

It’s a chicken or egg type thing, isn’t it.

  11. theplanisworking says:

    Yeah, sometimes it is, Milo.

I think Jamie is a good coach, as long as he gets his type of player, and he gets his type of gameplan in a game. He really knows how to take marginal players and coach them up. He runs a clean program, and does things the correct way.

I do fault him for not getting the “great” player for the program. I also don’t like the way he can’t change his in-game strategy. He seems lost when behind……… or, if Patterson gets shut down, he doesn’t have the confidence to get plays for his other players.

As I type this, Patterson hits a 25 footer for 3 to give Pitt the lead………… after playing an awful 1st half.

Things could be worse….. we could cheer for Bobby Mo.

  12. Milo Hamilton says:

So what’s the excuse tonight ?

  13. Milo Hamilton says:

This may be an NCAA record. Pitt just went on a 9-0 run, over 6 minutes & 35 seconds. Seriously, look it up.

  14. Arriba Wilver says:

This game should not be close.

    But it is . . .

  15. theplanisworking says:

This is the 2nd consecutive game Pitt has totally butchered Dr. Naismith’s game. They lost Sunday. They should be 15 points up on this awful Miami team.

At this rate, Pitt will have to revert to peach baskets………. they are 4 for 20 in the second half. Inexcusable.

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

They are showing this game to the prisoners at Gitmo.

  17. theplanisworking says:

Only fitting this wreck goes to overtime.
I have never seen a team regress as much as this team.

It’s like watching a Ralph Willard coached team!

  18. Milo Hamilton says:

    Oh good. More.

  19. 21sthebest says:

And Patterson doesn’t get a touch on that last possession.

  20. J Walter Weatherman says:

This team peaked in early January.

Hard to get excited for a team who’s offense ranges somewhere between anemic and pathetic.

Even if they win, this game is a loss for basketball fans.

  21. Arriba Wilver says:

Yeah, a try at a 3 by Wright. Who didn’t know how that was going to turn out?

  22. 21sthebest says:

Well Wright has made 6 three pointers this year.

  23. Milo Hamilton says:

This has gotten to the point where it’s even too ugly for Jamie. Now that’s saying something.

  24. Arriba Wilver says:

    Any since the ACC schedule?

    ;-)

  25. Milo Hamilton says:

This isn’t exactly what Jim Larranaga had in mind for his retirement job.

  26. 21sthebest says:

He hit 1 against Virginia. You were probably at the concesssion stand again.

  27. Milo Hamilton says:

    Yay, I guess.

  28. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Pitt “wins”

  29. theplanisworking says:

I understand that Pitt doesn’t have great players.
I understand that Pitt has no scorers besides Patterson.
I understand Pitt is a deliberate team.

But Good Lord, I think they are playing at a level that wouldn’t do well in the early 1900′s.

2 consecutive games where the game film should be burned. However, I will take the win. Moving forward, if this team doesn’t find an alternative to Patterson, they will lose more than they win.

  30. theplanisworking says:

    Get your pom poms out…..

  31. JRay3 says:

Nice to see Pitt come out on the winning end of one of these one possession type games.

Knew coming in Miami was 14th in nation out of 351 teams in points allowed and also put the scare in #1 Syracuse twice this season. A lot of tough, boring styles in ACC with Clemson, Miami, Virginia, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech so game like these will be expected.

Pitt now 4-1 on the road in ACC play which is impressive any way you slice it. 19-4 and 7-3 in what some considered to be a bit of a rebuilding year with so much youth outside of Patterson and Zanna and key early loss of Adams.

Great game and effort by Patterson who carried team late and Wright who carried team early.

Virginia Tech up next at the Pete which should be a bit of a breather game before the rematch with Syracuse.

  32. theplanisworking says:

I am glad you are a ray off sunshine with this team.
    Seriously.
They are brutal to watch, and need to improve. :)

  33. Arriba Wilver says:

    :-)

  34. Arriba Wilver says:

No offense, JRay, and I know it’s all about wins and losses, but did you watch the game?

  35. JRay3 says:

No doubt they need some improvement offensively, loss of Durand Johnson a pure shooter did not help. Need to figure out how to get others involved and it would help if team finished better around the bucket.

But team is exceeding expectations, they were no where near a ranked team to begin season and they are now a top 25 team and virtual lock for yet another NCAA tourney bid. Three of their losses are by 5 points or less and two on last second shots to teams all ranked 20 or higher, so they have played with everybody and been not only competitive but with chance to win.

Jamie Dixon has already received commitments from top level recruits in the next three classes and is on a few more so the talent level should only continue to improve and this group of freshman is gaining much experience and will grow from these games and this experience.

For me just real happy they have chance for 20th win this weekend in game 24 an continue to be a top 4 ACC team when they were picked 6th.

  36. JRay3 says:

AW- watched the whole game…painful to watch at times due to offensive inefficiency but knew this game would be like that…Miami has done this to every team they have played this year even Syracuse.

It still was a road game and it still had to be won late which Pitt was able to do and could help down the road, gosh knows they have lost a couple like this already this season.

I get it, this team is offensively challenged but plays great defense and has been in every game this year sans the Duke game late.

I appreciate how this team over achieves and competes, is it a Final Four team, no but it has been an enjoyable season none the less and I’ll take 19-4 and being one of the ranked teams. Many other programs would be envious.

  37. Arriba Wilver says:

    Thanks, JRay.
