  1. Brandie says:

That was for you, Plan Ho Park!

  2. theplanisworking says:

    Thank You, Brandimal !!

    Nice early digression. :0

  3. theplanisworking says:

If Pitt loses tonight, I am going to borrow a word from Milo…….. stinks.

Pitt really needs this win at bottom-feeder BC.

  4. Bizrow says:

Not just a win, but a good solid effort to boot

  5. theplanisworking says:

Well, the Pirates won today, so maybe the good karma will rub off on them? I certainly hope so.

  6. theplanisworking says:

    Good one, Reverend.
    Bucs got a win today.

It almost made me smell fresh cut grass in the 3 feet of piled up snow here. Almost.

  7. Arriba Wilver says:

    (12) Virginia 27, Miami 20 at the half.

  8. Milo Hamilton says:

North Allegheny seats 3,000. It’s going to be a sellout for New Castle/Kiski. They turned people away at Baldwin last night for Char Valley/Uniontown.

  9. Brandie says:

    GO NEW CASTLE!

It is good to see folks coming out to support the kids!

  10. theplanisworking says:

Lad said that Ambridge was an overflow crowd, and they seat 2700. I remember when New Castle games had to be scheduled at Fitzgerald, when it sat 6600. Should be an interesting game.

  11. theplanisworking says:

Brandimal, New Castle has always come out in droves for the boys, and girls.

    Thank you for the shoutout.

  12. theplanisworking says:

    Yeah, not the greatest start.
    7-2 bad guys.

  13. theplanisworking says:

    End of first quarter……….

    New Castle 17
    Kiski Area 9

  14. Dom says:

This game is on the THIS network, a local station.

  15. theplanisworking says:

Annnnndd…….. they come back to make it 9-7 good guys.

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

    After 1 – New Castle 17 Kiski 9.

  17. Milo Hamilton says:

    Hampton 14 NA 7.

  18. Baywatch says:

Mrs. Bay and I actually watched some of the Dodgers-DBacks playback to SEE some baseball! We’re not Vin Scully fans (he drives us BATTY sometimes with the way he rambles on with his stories) but how about the stamina that guy has for, what, pushing 90? And the dude has blond hair! Is it possible for a person at 90 to still have their natural blonde hair? And the guy calls a 9-inning game without any color guy. I tip my cap to him … OK, I just checked and he’s only 86. Never mind! :-)

  19. theplanisworking says:

    At the half……….

    New Castle 36
    Kiski Area 14.

Malik Hooker with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals.

  20. Milo Hamilton says:

    Halftime – New Castle 36-14.

  21. Brandie says:

    Dude is A Machine/Beast!

  22. casper in a-town says:

Good evening, Plan. Got Pitt on TV (muted) and the Canes on the computer. All is good on both fronts so far. Malik is taking over the game. Apparently another monster dunk that undoubtedly will make its way to youtube. And possibly ESPN. His alley oop dunk was on ESPN’s sportsnation today.

  23. Milo Hamilton says:

    Halftime – Hampton 30-22.

  24. theplanisworking says:

Even the Kiski fans stood and applauded him during a stoppage in play.

I am doing the same thing.
Pitt on a muted TV, NC on msasports.net.

  25. theplanisworking says:

ESPN is a bunch of pikers.

EYE had it here on the blog last Saturday. ;)

Also, McPhatter for New Castle must be having a tough time tonight…….. either his father, or uncle was in a horrible accident on 224 yesterday morning, and is in the hospital. Prayers to him and his family.

  26. casper in a-town says:

Ha! I actually clicked on your link to that dunk. Looking forward to tonight’s if it makes its way to the world wide web. And yes, many prayers to the McPhatter family. I saw that accident on the NC News website. Very sad.

  27. casper in a-town says:

Canes up 63-17 after 3. Mercy rule is in effect.

  28. theplanisworking says:

    End of 3rd quarter………

    New Castle 63
    Kiski Area 17.

  29. theplanisworking says:

I NEVER thought it would be like this.
I also hope they didn’t leave points here tonight. They need to save some for Saturday night.

  30. theplanisworking says:

Casper, someone who is there, says the crowd is almost 90% NC fans.
I find that maybe a stretch?

  31. casper in a-town says:

Maybe, but I wouldn’t be surprised. You know how well NC fans travel.

  32. casper in a-town says:

Hampton & NA tied at 42 after 3.

  33. Brandie says:

46 point blow out. The NC kids mean business. Maybe Pitt coulfd learn a thing or two?

  34. Milo Hamilton says:

    Hampton/NA tied at 42 thru 3 quarters.

  35. theplanisworking says:

    Final score

    New Castle 77
    Kiski Area 23

North Allegheny and Hampton are tied at 42.

    Championship game Saturday night.

    ==============================================

We now resume our scheduled Pitt game, good guys leading 40-26.

  36. Milo Hamilton says:

Winner of the 50/50 at the New Castle game got $820.

  37. theplanisworking says:

Milo, I am so sorry about the game.
Talking to someone who was there, he said the Kiski kids were game, just not quick enough to be effective.

  38. theplanisworking says:

    Um, $820?
All those gamblers from New Castle, LOL !!

  39. Milo Hamilton says:

I think you have to fill out paper work for that much.

  40. theplanisworking says:

    And have a haliburton handy.

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

I believe the IRS window at the track is $600 (on a $2 bet).

I gladly went to it one afternoon at Arlington Park!

  42. JohninOshkosh says:

21 can correct me but I believe the IRS requires documentation on any wager with 300% winning.

Even if no IRS number is required, I believe any gambling winning is taxable income. I could be wrong about that as there may be a minimum threshold amount.

  43. Milo Hamilton says:

Hampton wins 61-53 . It’s New Castle-Hampton, again. Lafko won’t sleep for three days.

  44. Milo Hamilton says:

They’re not gonna blow this, are they ?

  45. theplanisworking says:

I believe this is the first time 2 teams have met 3 straight years for the title.
I also believe it is the first time a team has been undefeated goint into the title game 2 straight years.

I actually look for a close game.
Hampton has been getting closer each time the 2 teams meet.

  46. JohninOshkosh says:

    How’s Pitt looked ?

    Stuck at work.

  47. Milo Hamilton says:

This is just a horrendous call against BC. The kid is just playing basketball there. Just awful, maybe the worst of the year. And I’ll take it.

  48. Milo Hamilton says:

Better. But they’ve reverted back to borderline ugly in the 2nd half.

  49. Milo Hamilton says:

Joe is a great coach, if there’s a way he’ll find it. I’m just not sure there’s a way.

  50. Milo Hamilton says:

Kiski coach Joey Tutchstone, “Our kids were a little shocked. They had never seen anything like that before.”

  51. JohninOshkosh says:

Are these State semifinal games ? Haven’t even started sectionals here yet.

  52. theplanisworking says:

No, these are Western regional games.
    State tournament starts next Saturday.

  53. Milo Hamilton says:

District semis. States start next week. State finals in Hershey March 21 & 22.

  54. JohninOshkosh says:

    Got it.

Do Western and Eastern PA winners then play for an overall state championship ?

  55. theplanisworking says:

A lot of coaches say their kids are shocked after seeing and playing New Castle.
I do feel bad for them, because they just aren’t used to that pace.

  56. Milo Hamilton says:

Yes. The state tournament is separate. The district tournaments are used as qualifiers.

  57. theplanisworking says:

    Sort of.

The way the brackets are set up, especially in the bigger classifications, teams from the east are put in the western bracket. Last years AAAA final featured 2 teams from the same eastern district. New Castle lost to the eventual state champion in the semifinals.

  58. Milo Hamilton says:

Pitt wins 66-59. The line was 7. How do they know ?

  59. JohninOshkosh says:

OK, so there can be a Philly area school, for example, that is the Pennsylvania State champions? They don’t crown a separate Western and Eastern Pennsylvania state champion (like California, example).

Always interesting to me to see how geographically large states with multiple major population centers do things.

  60. theplanisworking says:

    Yes.

Up until about 6-7 years ago, Philly schools weren’t even allowed into the state playoffs, for multiple reasons. Now, everybody gets in. They do group all of the western and central teams on one side, but they also put 4 teams from the eastern side in the western bracket. 2 eastern teams have met for the title multiple times.

Before the Philly teams got in, the bracket was divided between east and west, and no eastern teams were in the western bracket.

It has its good and bad points.

  61. JohninOshkosh says:

    ++

  62. At last Pitt has won 66-59 over Boston College, which is 7-21 and the worst team in the ACC although they did beat Syracuse. And now, let’s see if the Panthers can win the games that are left, including the one versus Notre Dame.
