  2. Stuart says:

Tanger spoke about his condition today. Carried by 93.7 The Fan. Pretty scary. Tanger’s wife found him on the floor about a month ago. He said he was alert, but not able to function. His wife’s mom (a nurse) took care of him on an emergency basis. Dr’s have told him he’ll play again.

I really can’t see him playing again this year. Wouldn’t want Ray’s job right now,but he’s a good’un, and he’ll do something to help the situation.

If we can get a league filled and folks choose to change the draft type to live or live auction, we can do it, trouble is scheduling a time where everyone can do it. Autodraft is you simply rank the players and when everyone has done that, the draft is held.

Any questions, please e-mail me at bisbee1203@verizon.net. Thanks, and Beat Em Bucs

  4. Wild Bill says:

Time to rock ‘n roll, Pens! And no Carey Price for the Habs.

  5. Brandie says:

Thank you for the objective report on all things Tanger. Ray has one mother of a job ahead of him to be sure.

  6. Brandie says:

Gearing up for the hockey festivities is Big Willy Thrills, AKA Untamed William.

  7. If the Pens win at the Consol Center tonight, it’ll be a most welcome event in Pittsburgh sports in a while.

  8. Jim S. says:

I still snicker when I read Untamed William. Just sayin’.

  9. When does slovenia play?

  10. Jim S. says:

I’m bummed because the Pens are not on NHL Network or NBC Sports Channel.

Replay of today’s Bucco win on MLB Network will have to do.

  11. Jim S. says:

It’s going to take a lot of guts just for him to play such a demanding sport again at all, let alone this season.

  12. theplanisworking says:

    Is that like Unchained Brandie?

  13. JohninOshkosh says:

Jim, Time Warner is offering NHL package for free this week after Olympics. Might want to check your carrier.

  14. Jim S. says:

I’m DirecTV, Osh, but that’s a good point. I might get it also. Thanks!!

  15. Jim S. says:

    Yeah, let’s go with it.

  16. tpbco says:

    Jim-
DirecTV. Had it since about 1995. The only time I miss a Steeler/Pens game is when I screw up the recording. Got the MLB package for the second half of last season, prob going to do it again too.

  17. Jim S. says:

I got the MLB pkg the 2nd half of 2012, tpb. Was loving it … then, the bottom fell out of the Pirates, and it was excrutiating.

But, the kids said 2013 would be different. Best decision I ever made. We loved it. Really brought me closer to home each night.

I have had Sunday Ticket forever. That was the original reason I got DirecTV.

  18. Wild Bill says:

Not worried about what Brandie calls me as long as she keeps calling.

  19. Pucknutz says:

    LETS GO PENS!!

    Hadda get it in :)

  20. Wild Bill says:

Thankful every day for having Root on my cable out here in Central Pa. for the last couple years. But I had to fight for it for months; the cable people were “all things Philly” for a long time.

  21. theplanisworking says:

I get Root, and 26 Philly channels.
I also get many Harrisburg channels, including one that is a “2nd” channel, that happens to be the ACC Network.
I am lucky to get as much as I do out here.

  22. theplanisworking says:

    :D

  23. Wild Bill says:

    With ya, nutz!

  24. Wild Bill says:

    Dealing with Comcast, Plan?

  25. Wild Bill says:

Betcha Geno comes out like a man possessed tonight. Guaranteed to Scire!

  26. theplanisworking says:

    Yeppers.
The one and only (Thank God)

  27. theplanisworking says:

    This sounds so wrong………..

  28. Wild Bill says:

    Oops.

  29. Wild Bill says:

Our smaller system is one Comcast would like to swallow up. I hope they hold out forever.

  30. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, Comcast wants to take over the world.
    Their customer service is bad.

I hope your little system holds out forever.

  31. Milo Hamilton says:

I see that Pitt has cancelled its spring football game. Must not have been able to find a small enough stadium.

  32. Wild Bill says:

Why would they do that, Milo? Really a lack of interest??

  33. Brandie says:

    Digressions away!

  34. Wild Bill says:

    Let’s get em Brandie!

  35. Brandie says:

    Lead the way Untamed William!

  36. Milo Hamilton says:

First time Bylsma’s heard The Star Spangled Banner in 3 weeks. Too soon ?

  37. Pucknutz says:

Jimmerson does such a great job on the anthems…… two good ones … just love O Canada! :)
Root shows them, NBC not so much.

  38. Milo Hamilton says:

Chryst says they can get more out of one more practice.

  39. Brandie says:

Put out the Jandy signal (silhouette of a nun broadcast like the bat signal).

    ROCK THE CONSOL DOME!

  40. Brandie says:

No Milo. The wit is always welcome. Besides, win consistently and make line adjustments. Win the Stanley Cup more than once with your superstars and this all goes away (meaning the snickering and the second through fifth guessing).

  41. Pucknutz says:

    Zinger!
    Be nice now Milo :)
(Although I have to admit I did get a chuckle outa that one)

  42. Wild Bill says:

Crap, they scored while I was out for a bit.

  43. Wild Bill says:

    But Neal redeems us!

  44. Pucknutz says:

    Methinks Geno is smiling……

  45. JohninOshkosh says:

That seems like a really stupid decision to me.

Guess he doesn’t want to give up too many secrets to Delaware coming up on 08/30.

  46. Milo Hamilton says:

Despres should be playing & Engelland should be up front. I just don’t get it.

  47. Pucknutz says:

Loves his country…. but nice to back in his “hockey home”.

  48. Wild Bill says:

    Whatever….

  49. JohninOshkosh says:

This was a reply to Milo’s Pitt post.

  50. JohninOshkosh says:

To paraphrase you: Chryst as a head coach makes a decent assistant coach.

  51. scapper says:

    Keep ‘em coming!

  52. Wild Bill says:

Boy were you right about Engo!

  53. Milo Hamilton says:

That’s 5 goals for Deryk Engelland this year. That’s more than either Eric Tangradi (3) or Beau Bennett (4) have in their respective careers.

  54. theplanisworking says:

Obviously, Chryst isn’t going to SCIRE with his boneheaded decision.

On another note, just got in, glad to see the 2-1 lead for the good guys.
At least Dan won’t Finnish in 4th place tonight.

  55. Eric Bowser says:

Wow… I get home late and see score is 2-1…. check the box score and Engelland scored.

Who is more effective 4th line RW, Adams or Engelland?

    I’ll pick Engelland.

  56. theplanisworking says:

In the “Crime Does Indeed pay” category…………..

Scott Burnside thinks Matt Moulson will be a Penguin………….

    http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/10526013/nhl-10-names-know-trade-deadline-approaches

  58. Milo Hamilton says:

By the way, Budaj is really struggling tonight. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a change at some point.

  59. Wild Bill says:

Can’t see it while we have all these injuries.

  60. Wild Bill says:

Good thing he has all that martial arts experience to fall back on.

  61. Jandy says:

    :snicker:

  62. Jandy says:

    That’s a no brainer !

  63. Jandy says:

    Friggin Munchkin scored

  64. theplanisworking says:

Well, hello to you too, sunshine !!

  65. Jandy says:

Engo scored the second goal as a right wing on a line with Sid and Nealer.
Next shift he was out as a defenseman.
Doesn’t that screw up one’s head????

  66. Milo Hamilton says:

He was on defense when he scored that goal. He just jumped up.

  67. Jandy says:

I just cannot abide Munchkin Briere!

  68. Jandy says:

ahh okies…thanks Milo! I liked it tho!!! :D

  69. Jandy says:

    Olli!!!!!

  70. theplanisworking says:

    SCIRE !!!!!!

    That Maattaa kkiidd is ok.

  71. Wild Bill says:

    Whatsa Maatta u, Budaj?

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

Did the Pens have a ceremony for the Olympic medalists before the game ?

  73. Jandy says:

    wa hoo!

  74. Jandy says:

    %$$%#!

  75. Jandy says:

I don’t know, Oshie, I didn’t get to sit down to watch the game till about half way thru the first.

  76. Wild Bill says:

Do not love those pp goals against.

  77. Jandy says:

    yeah it stinks

  78. JohninOshkosh says:

I think I prefer the less ice surface in NHL arenas. Wasn’t that fond of the larger Olympic ice.

OMG, Pierre McGuire and I agree on something. He convinced me.

  79. Ryan says:

    Long time reader…first time poster….

Am I the only one that sees a little Gonchar out there when Maata is on the PP? Does he miss the net?

  80. Engo on D still not a pretty site. However nice shot + budaj waaaay off angle + crosby knockin puck out of air = entertaining goal :)

  81. Milo Hamilton says:

    Ahh, Crankshaft.

  82. JohninOshkosh says:

Niskanen with some laser beams on this PP. Wow.

  83. Brandie says:

Good evening Plando Lakes, Jimmerz, and Jandeline!

  84. Pucknutz says:

Ya John, like the smaller ice myself… skill players can take advantage of less time and space… seems to be a much faster game.
As for Mr. McGuire, I cant say he has grown on me, but at least he does not grate on the nerves like Milbury and Co.

  85. Milo Hamilton says:

Geno can be a real meathead sometimes.

  86. Brandie says:

He is just quiet and steady. Nice to see you Wisconsin’s Finest.

  87. Barb says:

    Good evening all.

  88. Jandy says:

    Howdy Sistah!

  89. Brandie says:

Hence the name Soviet Salami. Tablet often changes Geno to Genoa.

  90. Jandy says:

    Bodacious!

  91. Jandy says:

    Take that, Subban!

  92. DJ says:

    Non-PK Subban. Yes!

  93. Barb says:

Yeah so glad that real hockey is back. I watched the Olympics but I had a hard time getting into it this time around.

  94. Jandy says:

Sutter made like he was Sid :)

  95. Jandy says:

Aaannd Flower lets another one in…

  96. Wild Bill says:

Sutter smokes Subban like a bad cigar, then we blow it!

  97. Brandie says:

    Mmmm. Full of Suttery Goodness.

  98. Jandy says:

sometimes I just wanna slap him silly

  99. Milo Hamilton says:

And a piece of crap at that.

  100. DJ says:

Maybe someone should call out Scuderi soon.

Really, what do we have to lose in going with Depres?

  101. Pucknutz says:

Ya , never thought he had that many moves, backhand!
    Did not last long though.

  102. JohninOshkosh says:

Subban is exhausted. I wonder if Dejan’s back to normal or if jet lag still has its grips.

Amazed to see a lot of reporters who were in Sochi working this week.

  103. Brandie says:

    He is off tonight. :(

  104. DJ says:

I agree. Too much dead time along the far boards and in the corners.

  105. scapper says:

    4-4. Bigger nets!

  106. Barb says:

I feel for Flower because when you have a layoff that long……well it happens.

  107. JohninOshkosh says:

    Hey Brandie.

Good luck with the job search. I’ve never worked a job in my life that wasn’t at will. Never had a contract. Could be released at anytime. I have had periods of unemployment. Sometimes lengthy. It is very scary, I know. Key is to stay optimistic even when it seems bleak.

  108. Brandie says:

When Scuderi was signed again, it was older Rob Scuderi the team was getting, not the Legend of Rob Scuderi, which the team was hoping for. Besides, I wonder how right he is after coming off the leg injury?

  109. JohninOshkosh says:

Ha! I love your posts, Scapper.

  110. DJ says:

Yeah, well, we’ve been saying that for a few springs now.

  111. DJ says:

    He’s the piece, all right.

I’ll let others decide the punch line here.

  112. Brandie says:

    Cannot spell PUNK without PK!

  113. Barb says:

    SID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  114. DJ says:

    Captain Canada!

  115. JohninOshkosh says:

    Captain Canada!

  116. Milo Hamilton says:

Crankshaft made the fatal mistake of making Sid mad.

  117. DJ says:

I think there’s an echo in here . . . or an Engo.

  118. theplanisworking says:

Brandie has to be the funniest Muppet I know.

    Plando Lakes?
    Hip Hop Hippo?

    The girl is gold.

  119. Brandie says:

    Thank you for your encouragement.

  120. JohninOshkosh says:

    :) Great minds…

  121. Milo Hamilton says:

Upset Alert – Dukes lead Saint Louis by 1 in 2nd half.

  122. Barb says:

Wow a Montreal player gets hit with his own stick and Glass gets a 5 minute major. Like the logic there!

  123. Milo Hamilton says:

    Game on NBCSN.

  124. theplanisworking says:

    Hi Barb!
    Welcome to the Garage league!

  125. DJ says:

Once more, give me the timetable on Vokoun again.

  126. Barb says:

You got that right and the Habs score. Man what a night.

  127. Pucknutz says:

I don’t get the 5 min major…. even at full speed ice level view of the ref … 5???

  128. Milo Hamilton says:

The layoff didn’t hurt your game any. :)

  129. Brandie says:

    Thank you Planis Joplin!

  130. Jandy says:

Munchkin Briere holds Maata’s stick, then scores, and it’s allowed. Unbelievable.

  131. theplanisworking says:

Joke calls like this is why I like hockey less each passing year.
I know all umps/refs are bad at times, but hockey’s are a cut below……….

  132. Jandy says:

That ref is trying to hand the game to the Habs

  133. theplanisworking says:

    :D
You take another piece of my heart, Brandimal.

  134. Brandie says:

What in The Wide World of Sports Is A Going on here?

  135. Eric Bowser says:

    No words…..

    Brutal by refs….

  136. Milo Hamilton says:

Dukes by 9 at #10 Saint Louis with 7:39 left. Oh my.

  137. JohninOshkosh says:

Serenity now, people. I gave up complaining about refs years ago. Can’t tell you how much more a happier sports viewer I am! :)

  138. Milo Hamilton says:

Billikens have 19 in a row. Dukes haven’t beaten a top 10 team on the road in over 50 years.

  139. DJ says:

Maybe Fleury needs a blood thickener.

  140. Jandy says:

Oh, I have words, but I can’t type them here!

  141. Brandie says:

    Planu Planu

    Homage to Mork and Mindy.

  142. DJ says:

If nothing else, this is more entertaining than most of those Olympics snooze-fests.

  143. JohninOshkosh says:

    :)

  144. Brandie says:

That’s tellin’ em Jandy! Time for the 9 wires!

  145. Milo Hamilton says:

    March 5,1962 at Bradley.

  146. Pucknutz says:

Horrendous call no doubt… but to the best of my recollection the premiere sport in the US , ratings, money, betting, etc. did not have a stellar officiating season.

  147. Brandie says:

Or Wides, though wires could be painful when electrified.

  148. DJ says:

    Channel your inner Gandhi, Jandhi.

  149. theplanisworking says:

    Bill Bradley?

  150. Pucknutz says:

Smiles are for JO serenity post.

  151. Milo Hamilton says:

Less than 4 to go, Dukes by 7. Mason with 16, 4 for 5 from three.

  152. Brandie says:

    Milton Bradley.

  153. Eric Bowser says:

$1 million says Crosby doesn’t skate in with good speed and go backhand.

  154. theplanisworking says:

    Ed Bradley.

  155. Wild Bill says:

Can we still use T.J. Oshie?

  156. Milo Hamilton says:

Over and over and over again.

  157. DJ says:

Hey, Dan just inadvertently pencilled in Oshie.

  158. theplanisworking says:

Ditto my feelings on that league also.

  159. Milo Hamilton says:

I’ll take that in small unmarked bills.

  160. Eric Bowser says:

shocker, slow and no backhand by Sid…. I win

  161. scapper says:

    A-bleeping-men!!!

And seriously, at full speed, that looks like a penalty every time. The five minutes thing is a bit much, but that’s gonna be called every time. And if the Hab doesn’t put his hands up, he takes an elbow in the face, it seems to me.

  162. theplanisworking says:

    No medal tonight either.

Thanks to Brandie the Great for the entertainment.
Drive safe. The chef thanks you.

  163. Eric Bowser says:

Did Malkin just give up… what pathetic shot attempt was that?!?

  164. Wild Bill says:

Much rust to be purged in the days to come, particularly on defense.

  165. Brandie says:

    Boo Radley! Bo Diddley!

    General Omar Bradley.

  166. theplanisworking says:

Maybe he wants to be traded?
    Or is he just sulking?

  167. DJ says:

Well, so much for adopting a “defense first” mindset down the stretch.

Much more important that we “get to our game.” Maybe this is the one Dan regrets not playing against Canada.

  168. Milo Hamilton says:

    Great Ghosts Alive

    Duquesne 71
    #10 Saint Louis 64

  169. DJ says:

Hey, Ryan. Compared to our other D-men, I actually think Olli is pretty good at putting it on net.

The one quality Maatta has — that I observed in Gonchar as well — is his ability to moonwalk along the blue line to create shooting lanes. If Letang had that ability, he might be deadly.

  170. DJ says:

I’m just following your Shirley Ellis “The Name Game” lead.

  171. Unfortunately, the Pens lost in overtime, but I took in the Duquense/St. Joe game which the Dukes won 71-64 and broke St. Joe’s 19 game winning streak, and I also took in the Pirates/Yankees game though I already knew the final result since this is the first Bucs game I’ve seen since the playoffs last October.

  172. Ryan says:

I’d prefer Maata, Niskanen, or even Martin over Letang on the PP. Letang is a great hockey player….just no PP quarterback.

  173. DJ says:

    St. Louie, right?

  174. Bizrow says:

Still many miles to go to the playoffs

  175. DJ says:

Ryan, you are wise beyond your years. Now just don’t let hockeymonster influence your thinking in any way, shape or form.

And welcome to the blog, grasshopper!

  176. Eric Bowser says:

    Not worried about the loss.

They needed a game to skate, get rid of the rust, and now no excuses for Saturday night in Chicago.

I consider that game to be a barometer on where they are at against a top team.

  177. DJ says:

Best wishes to Kris Letang for a full and speedy recovery.

  178. Jandy says:

    Hmmm…no day thread…
and it’s cold again…-5 here in central PA
    UGH

  179. JoeyBats says:

    HAPPY FRIDAY everyone!

Congrats to Jim Ferry and The Dukes on their upset win over St. Louis yesterday evening!

    LET’S GO DOOO-QUESNE. :-)

  180. Pucknutz says:

Double UGH ! -2 here just north of the burgh,
Normally winter snow and cold don’t bother me too much….this year I have had enough already!

  181. DJ says:

Since you’re the calm, even keeled, gatekeeper of the blog, I may now take to calling you “Jandhi.”

Brandie approved above, so there’s no better endorsement.

  182. Jandy says:

    :D I like it!

  183. Jandy says:

he needs slapped…but so did a lot of these guys tonight :sigh:

  184. DJ says:

    Hey, it fits.

As they say, if the size 9 wide shoes fit, wear ‘em.

  185. Jandy says:

    I wear ‘em well ;)

  186. DJ says:

Btw, although I love him, it is now officially time for Geno to grow up.

The book on him is to provoke him and he’ll retaliate. The book hasn’t changed. The coaching staff now needs to intervene.

  187. Jandy says:

Intervention should have happened long ago.
The kid glove treatment/star treatment reinforces that he can do anything without consequences.

  188. Looks like the old 1-3-1 broke down last night. Or Fleury had a bad night. Or DB had jet lag. Or all the above?

  189. Jandy says:

All of the above plus the officiating made that horrendous call on Glass which basically handed the game to the Habs.
But, no the Pens didn’t play well, their defense stunk, and Fleury’s head was up his behind.

  190. It was indeed St. Louis that lost to Duquense last night and that and the Pirates’ win yesterday took some of the sting out of the Pens’ loss. Anyhow, Pitt will play Notre Dame tomorrow at 2pm, and the Pens will play the Blackhawks out of doors on Saturday night at Soldiers Field in Chicago. It should be a most interesting day for Pittsburgh sports this Saturday.

  191. Jim S. says:

New thread is up. I was first to post. Haha! Never happened before.

  192. Jag7 says:

Thank you DJ. I’ve posted a few times about Scuderi not being good and get scolded by Jandy. Good luck winning a playoff round with Engo, Suds and Orpik on D. Let the young guys play already. So frustrating having a coach who won’t play guys simply b/c he doesn’t like them (Depres).

  193. Jandy says:

    me? scold someone?
The only one I scold is Hockey Monster. Just to get his blood pressure up :)

Besides, Scuds is a good stay-at-home defenseman.

Feel free to disagree with me jag7, just as I disagreed with you, my friend :)

  194. Jag7 says:

At this point he’s a decent #6 dman. In all honesty I wasn’t a big fan of his when he was here the first time b/c his outlet passing was/is atrocious, and was thrilled when he left for LA. I was quite mortified when they signed him again! (As you could probably guess by now!)
