Even though I am retired, not gonna see much of this game

I think RS did ok with what was out there

I think NH did ok with what was out there

I’m glad Troy and Heath will most likely finish their careers with the Steelers

They will know when they cannot produce anymore, but its in their trusty hands

Willie Mays is a good example of why folks retire/leave when its time, he waited too long, and that playing/non-playing is what I remember of him

If we can get a league filled and folks choose to change the draft type to live or live auction, we can do it, trouble is scheduling a time where everyone can do it. Autodraft is you simply rank the players and when everyone has done that, the draft is held.

Well played Monsterchev, well played indeed.

Andrew, get with the program ;-)

  16. I dont get a prize?

  17. Bizrow says:

    No, the rules are

Asterisks denote confirmed hero’s of any species, military, police officers or firemen/ladies

Your avatar does not meet any of the above criteria ;-)

  18. Andrew says:

You should always give into peer pressure.

  19. KGB has prize for you . . . . one-way ticket to Siberia if you ask for special privileges!

  20. Eric Bowser says:

    * Canucks wanted Olli Maatta for Ryan Kesler…. hahahaha, what a joke.

    * NHL decided to allow Devils to have their 1st round pick back and moved it to 30th overall. The team obviously try to violate the CBA and got caught, not pleased with the league’s decision to change course.

  21. JohninOshkosh says:

San Jose is 22-4-4 at home. (The Penguins are 23-4-2 at Consol Energy Centre).

Wins come hard earned in San Jose.

Very tough stretch for the Pens. Tonight in Northern California. Tomorrow night in Orange County. Then fly across the nation. In the nation’s capital on Monday and back home the next night again against the Caps.

The schedule necessitates that Zatkoff start one game in the stretch. Probably doing the right thing to start Zats tonight and have MAF take on the dangerous Ducks.

  22. JohninOshkosh says:

  23. Bizrow says:

Thanks, am not sure why its such a big deal :-)

  24. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, I don’t get why the league flipped on the Devils. Haven’t had a chance to read about it. Do you have any idea, Eric?

  25. Bizrow says:

Lets see if they are Cup contenders

A road trip might bring them together?

  26. Bizrow says:

    What did the Devils do?

  27. Eric Bowser says:

Devils ownership changed from Jeff Vanderbeek to Josh Harris last year and when Ilya Kovalchuk quit and took his game to the KHL in Russia, I’m guessing Harris used those as his basis in appealing the ruling.

Not surprised the NHL tired of Vanderbeek and wanted to make him an example, which they desired.

  28. Eric Bowser says:

Great timing for a road trip with the two new players. Just hate these late times. Not sure I’m going to last the night, mentally exhausted after the last two days at work.

  29. Eric Bowser says:

“The punishment was levied after an independent arbitrator ruled Kovalchuk’s 17-year, $102 million deal attempted to circumvent the league’s salary cap (the deal was heavily front-loaded, with Kovalchuk earning $95 million over the first 10 years.)”

Here’s the full story on today and why it was originally assessed.

  30. Eric Bowser says:

Not great news in this article.

The great Eric Duhatschek reports due to the declining Canadian Dollar (CAD), the NHL salary cap could be dropping from a mid-season projection of $71 million to about $68 million.

That would be a huge impact on the teams that are max cap for next season.

If that happens, Pens would only have $12+ million in salary cap space next season and having to add 7 forward and 2 defensemen to the NHL salary total. Ouch.

  31. JohninOshkosh says:

An independent arbitrator determined that the Devils knowingly attempted to circumvent the CBA back in 2010 in their contract and signing of Ilya Kovulchuk. As a sanction, the NHL took away the Devils 2014 first round pick. Today, the NHL reversed their decision and I don’t know why.

  32. JohninOshkosh says:

  33. Wild Bill says:

Hoe the Z isn’t too rusty tonight.

  34. Wild Bill says:

    Let’s make that “hope”.

  35. Eric Bowser says:

Those of you on Twitter… you have to follow Roberto Luongo…. he’s killing it right now. LOL

  36. Andrew says:

Yes, San Jose is one of the highest shooting teams in the league.

  37. Wild Bill says:

Not on Twitter, Eric. Fill me in?

  38. JohninOshkosh says:

First game for Pens in San Jose since 2011. Crosby did not play.

  39. Eric Bowser says:

Good up and down action so far by both teams.

  40. Eric Bowser says:

Luongo had #PrayforEddie because Canucks were no-showing against Dallas, 4-0 and Eddie Lack was being hung out to dry by his teammates.

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

Crosby and Kunitz with early scoring chances. A few hard shots at Zats. Nice pace.

  42. Wild Bill says:

  43. JohninOshkosh says:

It happens at various times in all sports, and it never ceases to amaze me at the professional level, but just jaw dropping how the Vancouver Canucks have completely imploded.

  44. DJ says:

Where did you read the Olli for Kesler deal? I missed that.

If true, Vancouver is the most “arrogant organization” in the NHL.

  45. Wild Bill says:

Orpik looking more mobile tonight than he has been looking recently.

  46. Eric Bowser says:

Olli Maatta scores in front of the net.

    1-0 Pens

  47. Wild Bill says:

    Ollie Ollie Oxen Free!

  48. DJ says:

Olli — a D-man — right in front of the net.

    Love it.

  49. How bout the kick off the boards with his right foot? Sick!

  50. Eric Bowser says:

Not a good situation in Vancouver, can’t see how Gillis or Tortorella keep their jobs beyond the end of this season.

  51. People maatta just made the play of the year…that pass with his right foot off the boards was ridunkulous!!!

  52. DJ says:

    I saw that.

You taking a page from your Rooshky roots, HM?

  53. Eric Bowser says:

now 2-0 from Kunitz on PP, his 28th

  54. DJ says:

Where are all the Pens fans on this blog tonight?

We gonna’ let a little 10:30 start throw us off stride? I think not.

  55. Andrew says:

    Lucky there is no relegation.

  56. Eric Bowser says:

saw it on Twitter and Facebook, apparently it was mentioned by Nick Kypreos.

  57. J Walter Weatherman says:

I like the Niskanen-Maatta pairing, but good to split them up for at least this game. Orpik-Scuderi too slow to hang with a team like the Sharks. Orpik-Maatta and Scuderi-Niskanen is necessary until Martin gets back. I then think about moving Scuderi to 3rd pairing with Bortuzzo (assuming Letang doesn’t return).

  58. JohninOshkosh says:

    I’m here.

Aren’t there any West Coast Pens fans on the Blog?

  59. DJ says:

    Okay, we got one.

    Do I hear two?

  60. DJ says:

Saw your post to Glen earlier today and had a good chuckle.

What I would love to see is Pouliot room with Olli next year and have them feed off each other. That, good comrade, would make me very happy.

Can you imagine those two in two years — at only 21 and 22?

  61. I’m with that. Just need to see more from pouliot to know for sure. And gotta make sure there’s room for harrington and bortuzzo types.

  62. DJ says:

I’m on board with all of those. Time to shake up the defensive corps.

Honestly, with a young, responsible and talented D-man like Olli setting the tone, he would be a perfect mentor with only a year under his belt. All of those guys would become better players more quickly.

  63. DJ says:

  64. DJ says:

Sutter having a good game tonight.

Said this recently but would love to see him transform himself physically. One solid summer at the Gary Roberts School of Offseason Conditioning instead of barbecues and horseshoe pitching with the extended Sutter clan in Alberta.

  65. DJ says:

    Outta their minds, if true.

  66. DJ says:

Terrible cross-ice pass attempt by Sid on PP.

Then compounds his error by not aggressively back checking. Ugh.

  67. DJ says:

    Brooks is a statue.

Then when he decides to chase his timing is impeccably bad.

  68. Jay says:

Boy, we grind for goals then give them up so easily

  69. Andrew says:

I always liked Sutter, nice find on that goal to find Maatta, needs to do some power lifting, then conditioning.

  70. DJ says:

I’m going for the consecutive posts record.

It may top Pens v. Bruins.

  71. Andrew says:

Then he should stay in front of the net and clear out some of those Sharks.

  72. DJ says:

Andrew, you just threw off my record.

That said, I agree with you.

So two Pens fans still awake.

  73. BillyBaduka says:

Beautiful sneak in, back door play.

Unfortunately, Sharks tie it soon after.

  74. DJ says:

What? You mean 4 years ago?

Brooks needs to retire. It’s time.

  75. Andrew says:

You looked lonely, 105 shot attempts combined so far.

  76. Andrew says:

I mean do something, they send two bodies to net after every offensive zone faceoff win.

  77. BillyBaduka says:

    Great pace.

Like to see the Pens put the brakes on the Sharks rush.

  78. DJ says:

Nice — we’ve got three with BB.

    The Three Pensketeers.

  79. DJ says:

    Yeah . . . well . . . never mind.

  80. Jay says:

    Track meet

  81. BillyBaduka says:

  82. Jay says:

    Sid’s +/- taking a hit tonight

  83. DJ says:

    What the? Horrible.

    What’s the Vokoun timetable again?

  84. DJ says:

Sid’s passing in last two periods?

    Not good.

  85. Andrew says:

    Floater from the blue line.

  86. Jay says:

Gave up 4 in the third period. Awful

  87. Andrew says:

I thought the Malkin line didn’t do much on the night.

  88. DJ says:

Offensive rushes a drug with this team.

    They cannot kick the habit.

  89. Andrew says:

Pens were worn down by the hits in the 2nd period, shorthanded goal was awful. Being short a D-Man hurt.

  90. DJ says:

Sure, but then you have consistent pressure on the PP and then again with MAF pulled.

You must maintain the puck at all costs in those situations and should not take unnecessary chances at slipping tight passes through because you cannot let the Sharks have any line changes.

What happens? Sid tries threading the needle. Game over.

  91. That be the boston blueprint. Gibby no help when they start hitting. Bortuzzo hurt? He went out and there wasn’t enough beef. Too bad one bad whiff ruined an otherwise solid game for zatkoff. Goc looked good with an assist and +1. Stempty egh…we’ll give him some time. By the way, sid with a -5! Did i mention gibby no help?

  92. Tammie Pituch says:

Different scenario…they were not going to break up the first line last year..Dupuis is hurt…Sid needs a winger
