    4-2. Is that a prediction ?

    :-)

  2. Thundercrack says:

I have the Astros vs Cardinals on MLB Netork. It must be yesterday’s game.

And in view, behind the right handed hitter , is David Littlefield sitting on the stands.

  3. Jim S. says:

I saw that, too. Looks like he was about to make bad recommendations on players.

Ok, that wasn’t nice on my part. Probably true, but not nice.

  4. Well, anyhow, the MLB season is now officially underway since the Dodgers won the second game of that down under series yesterday 7-5. I don’t know why that is since for the other teams, there’s still one more week of exhibition games to go.

  5. NMR says:

So you wonder what it would take for a manager to trust a veteran like Travis Ishikawa who’s gone several years without much time at the big league level?

  6. Probably wouldn’t take much considering he’s shown more in 20 AB’s than most of those other first baseman this spring.

  7. Arriba Wilver says:

    ?

  8. NMR says:

Just wondering, generally speaking, what it takes for a big league manager to gain trust in a guy who hasn’t been a big leaguer for several years. Ishikawa presumably hasn’t had a big league job because he was blocked, but because he wasn’t very good. So at what point do you say, “now is different”?

Doesn’t make much sense to move Ishikawa into Lambo’s presumed role unless you believe now is different for him, right. Lambo very well be just as bad, but at least provides the possibilty of more.

  9. NMR says:

Normally I’d agree. Seems pretty cut and dry.

But don’t you at least have to question whether or not this is a case of trusting spring training stats over several seasons of actually real game stats?

My guess is that it comes down to actual scouting. Has Ishikawa been showing skills that he previously did not have?

  10. Right now, it’s the Pirates 3-1 over the Orioles in the 4th. At least that’s what the MLB Network is saying.

  11. Arriba Wilver says:

    Thanks.

  12. NMR says:

You see the short, inside-out, Chase Utley-like swing and can dream of a guy who puts the ball in play and gets on base, even if it’s not with much power.

But that just doesn’t seem to be what he’s done in the big leagues.

  13. Brandie says:

Just not what the thread is titled. Maybe Dejan is having a true Dewey Defeats Truman moment.

  14. JRay3 says:

Cutch with his 5th HR of the spring gives Bucs 7-6 9th inning lead and is hitting .545, appears to be in MVP mode. Cole gives up 3 HR’s pitching into the 7th today.

Morris with a scoreless inning of work. Continue to wonder who of Mazzaro, Gomez, Pimental and Morris will not be with team in a week.

Ishikawa played the whole game, have to wonder if he has surpassed Lambo as the guy headed north to platton with Gaby to start. Read a preview of the Bucs written yesterday on CBS Sports that penciled Dickerson as the guy headed north instead of Lambo.

Should make for interesting final week of spring training.

  15. NMR says:

    Cutch is good.

Cole getting lit up against the O’s makes Volquez’s outing against them look not quite as bad. Maybe.

Dickerson replacing Lambo on the 25-man would mean no platoon for Gaby. No roster spot available for one with five outfielders. I can’t imagine what Dickerson could do offensively better than Lambo at this point.

  16. The Gunner says:

If Ishikawa comes north instead of Lambo, it’ll probably be a short term thing until either Lambo gets back on track or someone else is brought in from the outside.

  17. tcb says:

Imho, Cole pitched better than his stats. There was a gale blowing to left center.

  18. Chuck H says:

As in the past, the Bucs will keep the wrong player to start the season. Lambo has not had a very good spring, so far,
but he is young and will improve as the season goes on. Should keep Dickerson and trade Tabata who has yet to prove his worth. GO, BUCS!!!
