  1. President Obama’s no 1 pick in the NCAA Tournament: Michigan State, just lost to UConn. Sorry, Mr. President.

  2. Sarah says:

    Good lord Despres scratched again?

  3. The Pen have a tough enough game versus the Blackhawks tonight without further problems with Depres or anyone else, and all we can hope for is that the same debacle that happened in Chicago won’t occur at the Consol Center, although this time they won’t be playing outside.

  4. Sarah says:

Though the ice isn’t a whole lot better.
Despres was awful in that game, but still don’t see why you’d sit a PMD vs Chi.
He’s just in Bylsma’s dog house.

  5. Sarah says:

Would have preferred they give Maatta another game of rest actually…..

  6. Dom says:

Is Fleury going to be in goal tonight?

  7. Dom says:

    And Chicago’s starting goalie?

  8. Sarah says:

  9. Sarah says:

So we don’t play v the backup for a change!

  10. Brandie says:

    So the drama continues.

  11. tpbco says:

A couple of interesting points I’ve read recently…

The Pens will be the 3rd team in the last five years to have over 500 man games lost – and will be the only not to finish in last place in their division.

While everybody (rightly) remembers the recent playoff flameouts, also remember that the Pens had significant win streaks in Feb/March/April of those years…at least suggesting that one of the negative factors was “peaking too early”. No team can play at its peak forever. That and along with the the SC favorite media hype they were getting doesn’t seem to mix well with this team. Seeing the same thing right now with the Broons. We’ll see how they react.

  12. Purple Moose says:

    I am torn.

The Penguins have done an amazing job to overcome the injuries to be in 1st place and in the position they are in. On the other hand, I think they have done a lousy job to change any of their issues from the past 4 seasons to win a Cup……replacing Coach One Plan Dan is at the top of that list.

  13. scapper says:

    Excellent post.

  14. Eric Bowser says:

    Kunitz – Crosby – Stempniak
    Bennett – Jokinen – Neal
    Pyatt – Sutter – Glass
    Gibbons – Adams – Megna

    Orpik – Bortuzzo
    Maatta – Niskanen
    Scuderi – Engelland

  15. scapper says:

Was referring to tbpco’s post. Second time today this happened. I’m sure it’s my fault (born with congenital idiocy).

  16. Jandy says:

Shout out to my sistah Brandie! Good luck with the new job tomorrow! Go get ;em Sistah!

  17. Andrew says:

Was that the Disco Stretch there?

  18. Jandy says:

  19. Jandy says:

Happy birthday to Joce…hope she (and you) enjoyed her day :)

  20. Eric Bowser says:

movie was good… dinner, well… she’s a 5-year old girl with an attitude of a teenager.

  21. Eric Bowser says:

Love the play by Brian Gibbons, he’s been outstanding pressuring the puck. What a maniac!

  22. Jandy says:

LOL I’m glad you had fun ;)

  23. Jandy says:

The Hobbit always plays outta his mind…with he were at least 6 inches taller!

  24. Jandy says:

    errr wish

  25. Jandy says:

Here we go with a lame penalty

  26. Barb says:

I like this game a whole lot better than the one in Chi-town.

  27. jm says:

Bortuzzo is now among my top 3 favorite Pens. I’m sick of us absorbing the nastiness instead of dishing it out.

  28. Two scores midway in the first period! That’s good to see! Hope it holds up!

  29. Andrew says:

Not a good period from Engelland.

  30. Jandy says:

    YOu and me both ;)

  31. Jandy says:

No, and he’s been better than that…n ot good at all

  32. Eric Bowser says:

And he led the team in ice time with 7:27

  33. NBC Sports says that the Pens have just about cinched second seed in the playoffs and will face the no. 1 wild card, so they’ll be now more concerned about the health of the team.

  34. Brandie says:

    Ready to rock and roll.

  35. Andrew says:

Well, when you get hemmed in and are loose with the puck its hard to get off.

  36. Purple Moose says:

So if you have 2nd all but wrapped up, why not play Despres every game. You know that you are not going to use him in the playoffs, so why not play him every game and then give a different Dman including Orpik, Scuderi and Niskanen a night off every game on a rotating basis.

  37. Brandie says:

Because that would make too much sense.

  38. Brandie says:

    Then bench him!

  39. Jandy says:

  40. Purple Moose says:

Shaw has been inside of Fleury’s jersey all night and Bortuzzo has been the only dman to do anything about it. Wouldn’t want Scuderi to do anything, he might add to his total Penalty Minutes of 0 on the season.

  41. Pucknutz says:

Shades of the ol Brooksie there!
    Gettin a bit gritty.

  42. Jandy says:

I thought that hit was nasty, and he would be penalized. Not wishing for it, surprised no call.

  43. Andrew says:

I thought it was clean, but I’m a homer.

  44. hockeymonster says:

Nope. Tape to tape after chi-town D gaped up to counter our close support breakouts. Textbook per the monster mash!

  45. Pucknutz says:

    Nasty it was !
Ol time hockey hit. Looked clean to me.
But any hard hit anymore does seem to draw a penalty.
Niskey had a good one too. Pens gritin it up ? maybe a trend?

  46. hockeymonster says:

    Brooksie n Nisky playin Heavy!

  47. Well, Chicago’s halved it, and it’s been a rough one, as Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks can testify after taking that good, clean hit from Brooks Orpik.

  48. Jandy says:

I hope so! We need that ‘tude!

  49. Milo Hamilton says:

    Ain’t Mike Milbury wonderful ?

  50. Jandy says:

I cannot stomach any more of this chit spewing from Milbury and cronies on MSNBC
    friggin azzmunches

  51. Jandy says:

Well Milo, I guess we’re both sick of him lol
    He’s disgusting

  52. Brandie says:

Team has a lot to prove. Need to get aime organized, disciplined filth generated to let other teams know they have been put on notice.

  53. Jandy says:

Hubby said, “these accouncers must be Hawk fans”

    there ya go…

  54. chethejet1 says:

Orpik better have his head on a swivel from here. Clean hit but man it was who he hit. I don’t blame Chicago for going after him big time from here.

  55. Andrew says:

Mister crowd control himself, Mike Milbury doesn’t think so.

  56. Lad 9 says:

Amen Jandster. Just got in and turned it on and saw that. He makes me want to yak!

  57. Barb says:

Mike Milbury will forever be remembered for challenging Badger Bob during the Boston series. What a ” big man”.

  58. Milo Hamilton says:

I’ve had them muted all night, listening to Lange on radio. But when I saw him & they showed the hit I just couldn’t help myself. And once again, Milbury doesn’t disappoint. The only think you need to remember is – Bob Johnson, professor of goonism. The lunkhead lost all credibility 23 years ago.

  59. hockeymonster says:

Give that man a shoe and look out…

  60. Jandy says:

    Milbury needs to go!

  61. Pucknutz says:

    LOL Milo,
Anybody out there that can translate that gobbledygook BS he spews?

  62. Jandy says:

  63. Brandie says:

  64. Andrew says:

Do not forgot assault of pee wee hockey player.

  65. Jandy says:

A smart person wouldn’t put himself in that position

  66. Pucknutz says:

    Ovie —- minus 34 —- ain’t life grand! :)

  67. Andrew says:

The Pens D Zone coverage was breaking down as the period worn on.

  68. Brandie says:

He and John Tortorella should be forced to live together with Don Cherry as landlord. (He kind of dresses like some unholy mix of Mr. Roper and Mr. Furley anyway. So that works.)

  69. Brandie says:

I always knew Ovie stood for Over -rated!

  70. hockeymonster says:

Anyone else noticing some solid play from Piece?

  71. hockeymonster says:

Only when gladams on the ice…and pyatt.

  72. Brandie says:

He may have finally become acquainted with The Legend of Rob Scuderi.

  73. Andrew says:

Definitely sad, remains employed but he can draw viewers/interest by making asinine comments like this.

  74. Lad 9 says:

BRANDIEEEEEEEEEEEE! Good luck tomorrow morning my friend.

  75. Brandie says:

Millbury would say he had it coming.

Mike Millbury…Goonin’ up a new generation of hockey players since…forever.

  76. Andrew says:

    So true.

  77. Jandy says:

Indeed, I remarked to hubby that he was looking good tonight

  78. Jandy says:

  79. Milo Hamilton says:

I am a huge fan of Jonathan Toews. He’s everything you want in a hockey player. But I just can’t summon any sympathy for the misfortune of others right now.

  80. Brandie says:

That’s because the man talks out of his a$$…period. Any man who feels that insecure about himself as a man that he has to assault a child is not fit for the rest of society but has a place at NBC…NOTHIN’ BUT CLASS! (SARCASM ALERT)

  81. Jandy says:

No one feels sorry for Sid when he gets whacked

  82. Brandie says:

Nice avid Ladlicious! Thanks for the vote of confidence.

  83. Brandie says:

He needs to be curb stomped with a certain nun’s size 9 wide.

  84. Barb says:

And they call him a whiner. Puh-leeze.

  85. Brandie says:

Case in point…how many nasty troglodytes cheered when Sid took the Puck to the face (yeah by his own team mate) last year?

  86. Purple Moose says:

Have we had a shot since the first period?

  87. Milo Hamilton says:

Stands to reason that Milbury said if he were the coach he would make sure Orpik paid for his “transgressions”. That explains all those Stanley Cups he won. Oops, sorry.

  88. Brandie says:

    Avi not avid.

  89. Jandy says:

  90. Jandy says:

  91. Jandy says:

  92. Lad 9 says:

Thanks. Same to you. Kinda kinky. :)

  93. jm says:

Wow. B-hawks making us look like AHL team. Thank God for Fleury.

  94. Brandie says:

And if I had a definition and picture of a terminal, mouth breathing a$$ clown, it would resemble down to the condescending stink of smarm, one Mike Millbury.

  95. Jandy says:

  96. Brandie says:

Never thought I would see a post that said Thank God for Fleury.

  97. Andrew says:

They are a top puck possession team.

  98. Brandie says:

    Just like my hair…kind kinky.

  99. Brandie says:

And that will rattle clubs that just play one dimensional hockey every time.

  100. Jandy says:

    YES! Sid seals the win!!

  101. Milo Hamilton says:

You know, you might stop him once …

  102. Jandy says:

Flower has been our best player for the last 6 or 8 games

  103. Brandie says:

  104. Pucknutz says:

D man layin in front— no problem— Sid just calmly snaps it to the roof!!!

  105. Barb says:

Woohoo the Kid comes through again. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  106. Andrew says:

    This is true.

  107. Jandy says:

  108. Barb says:

    SID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love those empty netters.

  109. Brandie says:

Sidney Crosby has amazing poise…for a whiner.

  110. Milo Hamilton says:

Now everybody needs to be careful. Could be retaliation time.

  111. Gene-Zo says:

Sid leads by example tonight. Twice.

  112. Jandy says:

  113. Pucknutz says:

Mr Fleury has be under siege almost the whole 3rd — looks like he is lovin it.
Maybe he just knows Sid will take care of it.

  114. Brandie says:

Sorry for the schoolyard type digression everyone.

  115. Barb says:

Ya gotta take it to the bully.

  116. Jandy says:

Much better effort overall…except for a few gaffe. Nice physical game as well. Let’s keep it going, Pens.
I’m off to lala land…night Loonies!

  117. Brandie says:

Me too. I have to work in the morning.

    Dang that sounds nice.

    Pleasant dreams all.

  118. Pucknutz says:

Get some rest muppet. Ya can go with a smile on in the morn. Good luck on the first day! :)

  119. Barb says:

    Good night all.

  120. Eric Bowser says:

I’m shocked… Sid scored an empty net goal.

Pens held on and survived but their third and fourth lines cannot SUCK this bad and expect to go anywhere in the playoffs against a good team. Craig Adams was absolutely brutal tonight.

I had him for 5 defensive zone turnovers… FIVE.

  121. hockeymonster says:

Obviously these 2 neanderthals need to equate clean hits with fighting. Bettman and Burke should be proud.

  122. jm says:

Anyone listening to Milbury? According to him, Orpik dishes out hits with reckless abandon.

    If only…

  123. jm says:

“Jonesy” (gag) announces for the Flyers. You should hear the way he excuses their goonism.

    What a joke he is.

  124. JD says:

Wow, did anyone else see the NBC announcers laying into Orpik? They painted him to be the dirtiest plAyer in the league. I missed the hit, was it that bad?

  125. Andrew says:

He referred to a Orpik getting jumped on the ice and concussed as a “whap on the head.” I turned it off at that point.

  126. Tim says:

This is what I don’t get: Yes it was a clean, great hit. I love hitting in hockey as much as a great goal or incredible save. I want to see more hits like that, that is why the Stanley Cup playoffs is the greatest tournament on earth. But let’s face it, if it was Sid that took the hit, we would be up in arms about it and if no one came to his defense, i.e. dropped the gloves to pummel the guy, the sh#t would hit the fan. I love what Orpik brings to the game; can’t remember a harder hitter, but it’s hockey and you are going to have to pay the piper. Don’t kid yourself. Orpik shouldn’t either. It makes him look a bit, a bit I am saying, a bit not square.
