    LET’S GO PENS !!!

  2. Wild Bill says:

Can the Canes! Hey Plan, I was off for a while and responded to comments you made to mine on the other thread.

  3. Wild Bill says:

Pens sign Notre Dame’s Bryan Rust to an entry level contract. A former draft choice of 2010. Had 33 points this season and wore an “A” on his sweater.

  4. theplanisworking says:

I just got done catching up over there.
I got confused on a point you made, said something else.

  8. theplanisworking says:

Happy 39th Birthday, by the way.

  9. Sarah says:

    Anyone have the line up
    ?
Despres in or out of the shite house??

  10. theplanisworking says:

    Hi Sarah!!

Despres will be benched for eternity. Today, he is scratched for coughing. ;)
I honestly have no idea about the lineup, but thought I would throw that funny out there. :)

  11. Bizrow says:

Thanks, that was 1989, btw ;-)

  12. theplanisworking says:

    1989 is a lot of candles …….. ;)

  13. Andrew says:

Despres skated with Letang in the morning skate, so…

  14. Bizrow says:

Despres is on the bench tonight

  15. theplanisworking says:

Must have kicked a cat, or something……….

  16. Pucknutz says:

    LETS GO PENS!
    That is all.

  17. Wild Bill says:

Seems like we’ll get Depres or Borts, but not both.

  18. Pucknutz says:

LOL….. that little kid standing next to Engelland during the anthem looked scared to death. He scooted off the ice before he got checked !

  19. 1992 for me, Biz.

I know, Plantain, that’s even more than 1989 candles.

    ;)

  20. Jandy says:

    LOL Poor kid

  21. Jandy says:

    You and your cats lol

  22. theplanisworking says:

Call the local volunteer fahr department. ;)

Actually, since I don’t really celebrate birthdays, I guess I am pretty safe.

  23. Jandy says:

    +++++

  24. Jandy says:

My flooring company is doing the flooring at Mt. Lebanon HS. HUGE school.

  25. Jandy says:

    sweet

  26. Wild Bill says:

Great, we’ve got a goalie playing like Houdini against us so far.

  27. Jandy says:

    They usually do

  28. Jandy says:

Give that ref 2 minutes in the sin bin!

  29. Barb says:

Typical. I heard that Carolina GM Rutherford said that no one on the team is safe. He plans on blowing up the team and everyone can be traded!

  30. Barb says:

What happens if Sid retaliates. Oh that ‘s right he would get a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.

  31. Jandy says:

LOL! It might be worth it ;)

  32. Brandie says:

Good evening hockey bloggers. I want to see some grit tonight.

  33. Jandy says:

Sistah! Good to see you :)

  34. Barb says:

    I’m with ya Brandecita!

  35. theplanisworking says:

    Grits?
    No thanks. I prefer oatmeal.

Welcome, and pull up a chair.

  36. Brandie says:

For which Bylsma will sit Jokkinen.

  37. Wild Bill says:

We are gonna have to screen this guy to beat him.

  38. Barb says:

    ++++++++++++++

  39. Wild Bill says:

    Howdy, Brandie!

  40. Brandie says:

Jandy-Rose…I am writing scripts for customer contact and doing a news update for all clients at new job. They also want me to do how to use the products videos for You tube.

I got good vibes. Sending some the Pens way.

  41. Wild Bill says:

    Or not. Deflections help.

  42. Barb says:

    KUNIE SCIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  43. Milo Hamilton says:

… and then that goes in.

  44. Brandie says:

Just saw a SCIRE Untamed William.

Hope the world is a far out cosmic place.

  45. Brandie says:

    Good evening Workin’ D. Plan.

  46. Wild Bill says:

    My world always is.

  47. Sarah says:

    Yay Koon!!!

  48. Jandy says:

great news….sock it to ‘em girl!

  49. Brandie says:

    BODACIOUS!!!!!!!!

  50. Sarah says:

    Bylsma is a delta bravo

  51. Wild Bill says:

Good to see Megna out there. And Martin is on the way.

  52. Brandie says:

    Kunitz sending a message tonight.

  53. Jandy says:

I REALLY like Megna. He needs more ice time. I heard Martin possibly Thursday….likely this weekend.

  54. Sarah says:

    Sid’s 100th point???

  55. Jandy says:

    Loud and clear. Etch it!

  56. Milo Hamilton says:

Really enjoyed your Mike Emrick airport story yesterday.

  57. JohninOshkosh says:

    Me too, Sarah. Great story.

  58. Wild Bill says:

    Yep!

  59. Milo Hamilton says:

Much to my chagrin, I neglected to pick Frank Kaminsky in our NCAA fantasy draft.

  60. Brandie says:

I have so much baseball on the brain that I sm thinking Russell Martin.

  61. Wild Bill says:

A digression: Astros up 4 – 0 on the Yankees. Man bites dog story.

  62. Sarah says:

Thanks boys! Mike is a true gentleman, and really knows his stuff. We all high fived on that walk-off!
    Made the long delay worthwhile!

  63. Jandy says:

    Poop

  64. Wild Bill says:

    Not the Flower’s best moment.

  65. Sarah says:

    Hey B!
    WoRk treating you OK darling?

  66. Milo Hamilton says:

Feh. C.C. throwing it underhand these days.

  67. Andrew says:

One goal won’t win it tonight.

  68. Sarah says:

And you can just feel the shivers going through Pens Land re Post Season Fleury!
    Oy.

  69. Brandie says:

More than OK. See above post about new responsibilities. Thank you for the cool story yesterday.

  70. theplanisworking says:

    Yep.
They better have that shrink of his on speed dial. ;)

  71. Sarah says:

Brilliant! Sorry to join late, will check it out!

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

Ha! He has been a beast.

Wisconsin has beaten Florida,Virginia,Michigan,Arizona,Michigan State, Saint Louis and Baylor all this year. Now, they will have to beat a very talented Kentucky team and, most likely, Florida again.

I don’t like facing Billy Donovan when he has studied a game film of his team’s loss.

  73. Sarah says:

Well, a meh period. Despres should be playing. I’ve truly just given up on DB.
Can anyone make an argument defending the way Despres has been managed this year?

  74. Wild Bill says:

A.J. pitching for the Phils tonight.

  75. Jandy says:

I’m not worried about the FLower.

But Depres NEEDS to play. I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that he is sitting so much. Really is getting to me.

  76. Wild Bill says:

The only thing I can point to Sarah, is the salaries and experience of the guys who would have to come out to make room for him this season.

  77. Jandy says:

    How’s he doing Wild One?

  78. Milo Hamilton says:

I haven’t exactly been happy with Bylsma recently but Despres stinks. He’s been given multiple chances to stay in the lineup and he can’t. He’s awful.

  79. Sarah says:

    Brilliant B!!

  80. Andrew says:

Now 6-0, 2 homeruns, he doesn’t have much velocity, sitting at 88-90.

  81. Jandy says:

He needs to sink or float..if he sinks…trade him or send him down…and leave him there. This limbo thing is not good.

  82. Wild Bill says:

First pitch in a few minutes.

  83. Sarah says:

We’ll agree to disagree on the Despres Stinks angle Milo……

  84. Milo Hamilton says:

My well thought out devil’s advocate position. Stinks is really all I had there. :)

  85. theplanisworking says:

Are we talking about Despres, or AFLAC ? ;)

  86. Sarah says:

Yeh. Milo just floored me actually saying he stinks! The organization had the guy in Top 4 last year, so no clue what happened. Unless the Yohe story that: Simon Was Fat at Training Camp angle still holds sway with Disco 8 months later.

  87. Jandy says:

    KK…I’ll be asking for a report ;)

  88. JohninOshkosh says:

I know the Yankees are hated. I’ve never had a problem with them. Sort of like Notre Dame-the sporting world is more interesting to me when those teams are winning. I’m a big fan of Derek Jeter, though, and I hope the Yankees stay in the race just for his sake. I was at Comiskey last year when the White Sox honored Mariano Rivera. It was insane how many Yankee fans were at that game.

  89. Pens and Carolina are tied at 1 at the end of 1. Hopefully, the Pens will stay focused like they’ve promised to.

  90. Jandy says:

Depres dug himself a hole, that’s true. I was even upset with him. But jeez my knees, how long does a punishment last? Let the kid play or send him somewhere he CAN play. This holding grudges thing is immature.

  91. Andrew says:

Both Despres and Bortuzzo are awfully inconsistent in my opinion, injures have given them chances that neither has really taken advantage. That said I would rather see either of them over Scuderi.

  92. Jandy says:

Oshie, I’ve long been a Jeter fan. It’s true he’s easy on the eyes, but actually, he’s been a very good if not great baseball player and the best thing to me is, he’s not been in the news in a negative way. Hs truly is a good role model.

  93. theplanisworking says:

Jandy, your last sentence is spot on.
The petulance shown toward some players for transgressions, whether real or perceived, is stunning.

Play your best at each position.
Don’t toy with people, just because you can.

  94. JohninOshkosh says:

I recently saw one of those internet slideshows of his girlfriends through the years.

I’ll just say, “Well done, Mr. Jeter.”

  95. Sarah says:

Not limited to Despres…..as you’ve noted Jandster, Geno can take dumb penalties and cost the team with no accountability, meanwhile
Jussi takes his first penalty in the O zone all year, gets publicly called out, and benched.

Really, as a player once myself, cannot imagine how Bylsma holds the locker room. If indeed he does.

  96. Sarah says:

Dunno….think they lost that focus about midway through!…..

  97. Sarah says:

    And Orpik and Engo….

  98. theplanisworking says:

I think by the past 2 weeks, we can see AFLAC isn’t holding the locker room too well.

  99. Jandy says:

I’ve long made my opinion known that Malkin should sit a game or three. His petulant stupid penalties hurt the team and cost us games, which is points in the standings. I don’t have to repeat it :)
I’m sure there’s a reason why DB is the coach. And I’ve long supported him. Right now, though…I can’t agree with some of his…cryptic coaching methods.

speaking of dumb penalties…there goes Neal again :sigh:

  100. Jandy says:

    This is sad

  101. Barb says:

    And the bad guys score!

  102. Wild Bill says:

    Maatta screened his own goalie.

  103. Milo Hamilton says:

    Someone cue Santo & Johnny.

  104. Jandy says:

    ;)

    Even the girlfriends don’t complain…

  105. Barb says:

Playing down to the ‘Canes level. Really.

  106. Sarah says:

    Bench Despres!

  107. Jandy says:

    Bench Jokinen!

  108. Milo Hamilton says:

This is embarrassing. Effort is lacking. Again.

  109. Wild Bill says:

AJ got through the first. One hit and one walk, but no runs.

  110. Sarah says:

Where’s our Eric B to count the turnovers? I’m afraid to….

  111. Milo Hamilton says:

    I thought he retired.

  112. Jandy says:

    Time for Zats

  113. Purple Moose says:

Engellend – a much better 4th line winger than a defenseman

  114. Jandy says:

    Thanks Wild One :)

  115. Jandy says:

I like Engo on the wing…wish they’d leave him there

  116. Purple Moose says:

Don’t worry Pens fans, we got Adams to bail us out

  117. J Walter Weatherman says:

Does any optimism remain for this team for the playoffs?

  118. JohninOshkosh says:

Has he yelled at Jimmy Rollins for his defensive positioning yet ?

  119. Wild Bill says:

Well, the Canes decided to not roll over and play dead, and we have no answer for that.

  120. Andrew says:

Englland should be on the forth line, as he just demonstrated, I do not have a problem with Orpik, mainly because if you are going to scratch one of your defensive defensemen I would rather it be Scuderi. I like Despres he is only 22, and defensemen sometimes take longer to develop, but he is just inconsistent. Not sure he was top four last year, he averaged 15 minutes of ice time last year, that was sixth on the team.

  121. Milo Hamilton says:

The Pens scored at 9:01 of the 1st period. They have 5 shots since.

  122. Jandy says:

Now we MUST score on this PP

  123. Andrew says:

    Health.

  124. Jandy says:

    Sure, I do. It’s a new year.

  125. Purple Moose says:

Does Coach One Plan Dan think its a rule to have a forward play the point on the power play?

  126. Rbilak says:

    Get to wAtch live tonight

    1. After a great start, Pens being outplayed.

    2. Neal takes another stupid penalty, they score, Dan says nice job and he gets first shift after goal. The undisciplined penalties manifest themselves into undisciplined play, the results poor passes, sloppy play, like #5 on goal. MAF also had a playoff moment there on board bounce.

    3. Nice timeout coach, result 3-0. Not gonna mention lines 3/4. They speak for themselves. Sorry without a coaching change, nothing will change no matter who comes back. Effort, motivation and accountability on this team does not exist.

  127. theplanisworking says:

    Good Night to all.
    Enjoy the sellouts, folks.

  128. Wild Bill says:

That’s as bad a period as I’ve seen the Pens play in a long time.

  129. Milo Hamilton says:

Those in attendance who haven’t yet been lulled to sleep are booing.

  130. Purple Moose says:

Steigerwald just mentioned the Penguins great firepower. Other than Crosby, Kunitz and Neal who do we have that can score? Our firepower tonight is not much better than Carolina’s firepower.

  131. Pucknutz says:

Agree w/ya Milo. Despres has not impressed me at all. Lot of DB haters out there … IMHO a bit too hard on the guy… he is certainly not perfect…. but like Hurdle ,sometimes ya just scratch your head on the moves or lack thereof. How many wins or losses is a coach or mgr really responsible for?
Players gotta produce. Ya it is the coaches job to get the best out of the “talent” he has. But sometimes the “talent” just don’t do it for what ever reason.
Is it DB’s fault that the Flower wilted last year? Hmmm… ( Personally I believe he will be fine this year)
Is it DB’s fault that 2 of the premier players in the world can not score on Boston?
The Pens like the Steelers set a high bar every year for themselves….love it… lucky we are to at least have those high expectations every year. Heck, we could be like Buffalo of Cleveland sports wise. Sad thought.
Does DB gotta go? Shero too? Maybe… Mario will make that call if need be.
Ya I am a homer, lookin forward to some exciting playoff hockey. Win or lose I am gonna enjoy it.
Are the Pens a Cup team? Maybe not…. some luck….outstanding games from the “stars”… who knows?
    Enjoy :)

  132. Purple Moose says:

Blues Flyers game on NBCSN is a much more entertaining game

  133. Purple Moose says:

Agree Rbilak. Adams must have pictures on the entire organization to have played in 250 consecutive games. Guess that is easy to do when you dont do much during the game. Almost choked on my pretzel when Steigerwald said what a good offensive player Gibbons was early in the game. Not even sure who the other players are on the 3 and 4 lines.

  134. Barb says:

If you consider the Pens are using squirt guns.

  135. Rbilak says:

Gibbons 16 games zero goals. What other coach continues on with this. I know Dan has to hate the Conner injury, he would be on the same line. At this point I could see Shero getting mini-me to center that line. We could have players skating under the other teams legs, Chara would not be able to see them , I think that is the plan.

  136. Brandie says:

So the highlight of this growing debacle was The National Anthem.

  137. Purple Moose says:

Just moved back to Pittsburgh and I dont think that I can take much more of Steigerwald and Errey. Its nice to have your announcers root for the team but it is a different thing to make excuses for their bad play and try to convince us that players like Gibbons, Adams, Engelland and the rest of the backups are good NHL talent.

I have to find a different way to watch these games.

  138. Rbilak says:

Steigy will say the a Canes are forcing the Pens to play bad next. I understand working for the team, but he insults the fans who know the game, they are a top heavy team that has no regard for the coach and the GM failed to address the true needs of this team.

  139. Rbilak says:

Feel exactly the same way. Don’t make excuses for lack of effort.

  140. Barb says:

Listen to Mike Lange on the radio.

  141. J Walter Weatherman says:

I guess the Pens thought the Hawks game was Game 7 of the Finals.

It’s not inconceivable that this team slips past the 1st round while Malkin, et al get healthy and back in a rhythm, and they start clicking again by the 2nd round. There’s just nothing that I’ve seen from this team recently that they’re capable of getting in a rhythm. It’s not just the effort that’s lacking, but the ingenuity from the coach, and most importantly the impotence of the 3rd and 4th lines. You can’t win more than two rounds in the playoffs when you have two bad lines. Maybe if your top 2 lines and your goalie/defense are otherworldly, but we know the Pens can’t put all that together at the same time.

I think we all know the Pens matchup horribly against the Flyers. However, the Rangers have owned the Flyers recently, so the Pens could catch a break and see the Rangers in the second round – much better matchup. If the Bruins somehow get upset, that is the path to the Finals for the Pens. Otherwise, I don’t see them beating the Flyers or Bruins in a 7 game series. Also, they have very little chance of beating whichever team comes out of the West.

  142. Milo Hamilton says:

Easier than ever to sync it up with the TV broadcast. Just pause your DVR until it matches.

  143. Milo Hamilton says:

As a matter if fact that’s all I’m doing right now, listening. Can’t look at any more of this, my eyes hurt.

  144. Purple Moose says:

Good suggestion for trying to synch it up, thanks Milo

  145. It is certainly disgusting to see Carolina score those 2 points in the second period. After all, the Hurricanes are only a .500 team and the Pens should be doing more than just going through the motions against them.

  146. Jandy says:

Sid coming apart at the seams

  147. Rbilak says:

Tonight’s 3 Excuses of the game

    1. Pens were tired, Canes only had to travel from Ottawa, played the night before.

    2. Pens haven’t recovered from Olympics.

    3. Hot Goaltender.

  148. Viv says:

Prediction – pens get humiliated by the flyers (again) in the second round, provided we can beat a wild card team.

  149. Purple Moose says:

    Top three excuses:
    1. Carolina is playing loose
    2. Hot goaltender
    3. We overlooked them for that big Winnipeg game Thursday

This team has ZERO leadership. Sure looks like guys like Guerin and Roberts from days gone by are truly missing from this team.

  150. J Walter Weatherman says:

    4. Canes were heavier.

  151. Purple Moose says:

And Steigy finds a way to praise them in the final seconds saying the Penguins played hard the last five minutes and at least didn’t role over………you have got to be freakin kidding me.

  152. Rbilak says:

Steigy just said Pens are running out of time. Note, 3rd period over.

  153. Viv says:

Pens will be lucky to get out of the first round – only guaranteed if they play the Crapitals…and they aren’t making it.

  154. Rbilak says:

    Good one.

  155. Andrew says:

    Well, no one got hurt.

  156. J Walter Weatherman says:

Steigy is an embarrassment to the broadcasting profession. Errey is right behind him. Lange on the radio is your only option.

  157. Viv says:

We have the worst announcers in the business.

  158. Rbilak says:

If they get Detroit, they won’t make it to rd 2.

  159. Rbilak says:

Those other 15 minutes don’t matter. The Pens had so much talent they could simply do that in past now they can’t and they don’t know how to play 60 minutes. Discipline = 0.

  160. Purple Moose says:

Can you imagine if we play Detroit in the first round and it is Babcock against Coach One Plan Dan…………..just like the Olympics, no contest.

  161. chethejet1 says:

Pens as a team are uninspired and led by a mediocre coach and GM who have reduced this team of expectations to when round will they be bounced.

  162. The Pens played hockey for exactly 10 minutes tonight. And they lost 4-1. Good night everyone, and, hopefully, the Pirates beat the Cubs tomorrow and Thursday and then the Pens will do better on their last road trip before the playoffs.

  163. Viv says:

Disco dan will make the necessary adjustments for the next game – Simon Despres will be in the line up.
