Comments

  1. I don’t CARE what it means for the Playoff seedings.

I don’t want Pens to lose to the Flyers today! It would be wuss to lay down.

  2. Sam says:

I couldn’t agree more! Gotta get back on the horse, not be afraid of it.

  3. Rbilak says:

Also agree, showing fear to a team only says you are already mentally beaten. That said, Engo on line 4 and one D sat for Bortz. Anyone else see Ryan Malone arrested?

    1. Powerplay, will we give up more short-handed chances than we produce? If so, why haven’t they figured out this long standing issue?

    2. Anyone have the guts to stand up to Rinaldo today or is it open season yet again? Instigate not retaliate.

    3. Kunitz and Orpik out. Can the “Vertically challenged” outplay the “heavies”. Will Simmonds have no one hit him in front of the net? Talking to you Scuderi, need to move him and pay a price not like last game.

    Ready for entertainment.

  4. Sam says:

Rinaldo is out due to suspension. I agree with Engo and Bortz and Harry Z.

  5. bpn8pitt says:

Before the Ryan Malone fingerwagging starts, keep in mind our Penguins are not exactly saints either.

I am stunned one has never been picked up in the South Side. Hoping its because they have a DD.

I hope Malone is punished and learns from his mistake.

  6. Sarah says:

I heard not just DUI but also cocaine? that ain’t good…..

  7. Sarah says:

Yeah bit of a dilemma today….for both teams. Neither really benefits from winning….PHL more likeLy to play NYR when they prefer us…..us more likely to play PHL if we wins when we’d prefer Jax.

I have not heard lineup but would not be surprised if Pens rest some guys…..

    Anyone seen roster?

  8. Rbilak says:

Thanks Sam, unaware of that, imagine that, suspened?

  9. JohninOshkosh says:

Just looked at playoff matches as they currently stand. Only match up where one team has defeated the other team every time they’ve played this season is Pens/CBJ.

  11. JohninOshkosh says:

Kinda dislike how the NHL schedules the final weekend. Some teams, like Pittsburgh have to play back to back going into the playoffs. I realize they get a few days off but still.

Why not have all the teams play on Friday and Sunday. Eliminate this waiting for match ups scenarios.

  12. Sarah says:

Yep, just like us last year blanking BOS in reg season.

  13. Sarah says:

Re 3) let’s hope we see BB Sid and Neal!

  14. Sarah says:

    Hah! Agree. Sux.

  15. Jandy says:

    Malone arrested?? what for???

  16. Jandy says:

    Oh my

  17. Jandy says:

    +++++

  18. Jandy says:

    NHL = Garage League!!

  19. Jandy says:

    Fack yeah!!!!!

  20. Jandy says:

    Jussi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Juicy goal!!!

  21. Sarah says:

    JUICE!!!

  22. Jandy says:

    woo-hoo!

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

    Biz:

You had a couple of check ins last night on the Pirates thread. Both posted under your roll call post. One from Jersey and the other from Carolina.

Don’t know if you caught them or not.

  24. bpn8pitt says:

    Oh my

  25. Jandy says:

    Oh Yours! ;)

  26. Jandy says:

    Beau Bennett looking good

  27. Jandy says:

    POOP

  28. Sarah says:

    Yes!
Sid w a few turnovers though! Tighten up!!

  29. Sarah says:

Good lord Adams got totally walked. Awful.

  30. JohninOshkosh says:

The Philly game plan against the Pens has been the same since Crosby first took the ice as a Penguin. You’d think it wouldn’t get to the Pens but it still does.

Not sure I’ve ever seen anything like it in sports rivalries.

  31. Sarah says:

    Immaturity

  32. Bizrow says:

Thanks, John, sometimes I forget to check ;-)

    Now 463 strong

  33. DJ says:

Would really like to see Ollie elevated to the #1 PK D pairing.

Bortuzzo looking awful lately. Failed to clear the puck with time and multiple lanes. Goal.

  34. bpn8pitt says:

    Cutch in lineup.

  35. Sarah says:

Agree on both. But if I had to choose between Borts and Scuderi, it’s Borts.

  36. Bizrow says:

    YES!!!!

  37. Jandy says:

That’s good news…hope his ankle is ok

  38. Sarah says:

They’ve been in our head for about 3-4 years now.

  39. Jandy says:

    +++++

  40. Sarah says:

    PP time….

  41. bpn8pitt says:

Trying to watch this game, but its like Week 17 football. Where nothing is at stake.

Gonna go for run, get ready for Bucs.

    Stay healthy and loose Pens.

  42. Sarah says:

Awesome saves by Mason else we’re ahead. Ugh.

  43. Rbilak says:

    DUI and Cocaine.

  44. Rbilak says:

Well I thought the Pens could manage to play a smart, disciplined game. Then, for the 101 time, Neal takes a Stupid penalty and Wham, powerplay goal. Disco reward him by not sitting a shift. They played outstanding hockey and again beat for goal by themselves.

  45. Jandy says:

    5 on 3 PP… no score…ugh

  46. Sarah says:

No right handed shot. Where’s Beau? On the bench!

  47. Sarah says:

Bennett has 3 shifts total this period. Yay Dan.

  48. Jandy says:

    ^%%$!!!!

  49. Sarah says:

Sweet. First shot of the period. Lovely.

  50. Sarah says:

Annnnd that’s a penalty on Megna.

  51. theplanisworking says:

Bit of good news coming out of Boston ……

    Broonz won the Presidents Trophy.
Many President’s Trophy winners don’t win the Cup.

  52. Jandy says:

    yup!

  53. Sarah says:

    Well fingers crossed Peeps!
Cos them Bs are the ones to beat.

  54. DJ says:

Well the latter is more a tautology.

    No need for comment.

  55. scapper says:

Anyone see DK’s tweets about the guy who was forced to move because he had a sign goofing on Pierre Maguires’ first name? (Regis is the name, by the way.)

Agreed it was just ridiculous and really petty that he was asked to move, but what’s just as ridiculous is the age of the guy holding the sign. Seriously? You’re that old and you’re carrying a sign to goof on the NBC color man? Be funny if the guy was like 24, but this guy….ain’t 24. Pretty sad on all counts.

  56. DJ says:

Is it just me or does it seem every time Giroux is on the ice there is at least one solid scoring opportunity?

He’s gotten into the Pens heads . . . and mine now.

  57. J Walter Weatherman says:

I agree with this. DK is acting like the NBC/NHL/Pens are Nazi’s. The reaction was a bit overboard, but how about going to the game and not acting like an idiot?

  58. theplanisworking says:

The man paid for his ticket, he should be allowed to do as he pleases, unless he is swearing, the sign had vulgarity, he is causing a ruckus, etc.

The Pens had every right to ask him to move also, unless they were beating him with clubs.

    This is a total non-issue.

  59. scapper says:

Honestly, the guy is just that good. I know we Pens fans like to hate him and use Laviolette’s “best in the world” comment against him, but when we look past the orange jersey, the guys is a tremendous hockey player.

(Man, I feel like I soiled my already coal-black soul after writing that, but I will never be like those stubborn Flyers fans who won’t acknowledge just good Sid is.)

  60. scapper says:

Agreed on all counts. I’m just saying that someone that age demeans himself to a greater degree than he trolls Pierre…er Regis…oh man, Regis….that is just so funny. Someone should take a sign and crack up the collective NHL viewership.

  61. Sarah says:

Yep. Much as we hate to admit, he is good. Very good.

  62. J Walter Weatherman says:

I agree that it shouldn’t be an issue, but it is being made an issue. I guess I just have something against people who bring and hold up signs during games. Why can’t you just enjoy the game instead of feeling the need to call attention to yourself? Nobody paid money to see your stupid sign.

  63. J Walter Weatherman says:

Combine that with the Pens not being very good and you’ll understand why it seems like he gets a scoring opportunity every time he’s on the ice. I’m pretty sure opposing fans think the same thing about Crosby.

  64. Sarah says:

    Nice tackle, Hartnell

  65. Sarah says:

    Offsetting minors. refs just blow.

  66. Andrew says:

Scott Hartnell = World Class Bum

  67. Sam says:

So I know the Pens play way too stupid some times against this team but wow ,the Flyers pull all kind of BS crap time and time again both before and after the whistel. Almost cant blame the Pens sometimes.

  68. Karen22 says:

This will KILL us in the playoffs. Lack of discipline. Has to stop!

  69. JohninOshkosh says:

I think unless you are a kid or a student or something, it is just ridiculous for a grown human being to bring a sign to a game. Like face painting or childish like not giving a foul ball to a kid.

  70. Andrew says:

    You gotta support the team.

  71. Bizrow says:

I don’t know, sat right behind the Cobra sign at TRS in 79, that was kinda fun.

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

    Puddy references always welcomed!

  73. Sarah says:

They do it cos they know it gets in our heads, and we oblige them.
    Every time.

A few years ago the a Pens would ignore them, and let PHL get themselves in penalty trouble and we’d win.
Now we just lose our minds.
    It’s a real shame.

On the plus side, if they beat us today, less chance we have to play them first round. Cos THAT could get ugly.

  74. Bizrow says:

That being said, I know what you are saying ;-)

  75. theplanisworking says:

When I go to outdoor concerts, there is always a beach ball being bounced thru the crowd. I guess I have to bi*** and moan about that because I didn’t pay to see a beach ball being bounced around?

As long as he isn’t disrupting anyone/thing, let the old man have a laugh or 2.

By the way, I am a huge supporter of blasting that beach ball. It’s fun. :)

  76. JohninOshkosh says:

Believe me, Biz, my opinion is coming from one of the most immature adults I know-me!

  77. Sarah says:

Why are Adams Engo or Glass getting ANY shifts right now? and why isn’t BB getting more TOI?
So frustrating. Does Jack Adams really think these guys give us the best chance of tying this game?

  78. Sam says:

Actually i think we are being relatively composed today considering the antics.

  79. theplanisworking says:

Let me know the next game you are going to, Oshie.
I will bring a sign just for you. LOL ;)

BTW John, your Bucks are close to clinching the worst record in the NBA.
That is not good news at all …….. for even though the Bucks would have the best % of winning the #1 pick, that hasn’t happened since 2003, when the Cavs got LeBron.

  80. Jandy says:

    YEAH!!!!!

  81. Sarah says:

    Yay for Emerys 5 hole!!!

  82. Don’t even have to look to see the score is 2-2. Just look at the Jandy posts, 2 yeahs and 2 poops.

Score 2-2, 4 minutes left, right?

    ;)

  83. J Walter Weatherman says:

That was a really nice play by Neal. At first, I thought he mis-shot it and he wanted to go high; after seeing the replay, he was going 5-hole all along. He’s invaluable to this team if he get keep his head in the game.

  84. theplanisworking says:

    Reverend, that is classic!

  85. scapper says:

    Feels like an Arby’s night.

  86. J Walter Weatherman says:

Honestly, I don’t really care enough to carry on this discussion, which I think goes back to a good point you made earlier.

  87. JohninOshkosh says:

The Bucks and Sixers have combined for 32 wins. lol. The New Orleans Pelicans are terrible-last in their division-and they have 32 wins.

Should get a quality player even if they don’t get top pick.

  88. Jandy says:

Are you kidding me??? Fleury, can’t you stop one Friggin puck!

  89. Jandy says:

    LOL! I resemble that remark!

  90. JohninOshkosh says:

    ++++

  91. J Walter Weatherman says:

The mere fact that Gibbons is playing significant minutes on this team tells you everything you need to know about the Pens playoff hopes.

  92. Jandy says:

    YES!!!!

  93. scapper says:

Oh, I’m all for regular signs and all. It was just that type of sign by that type of guy.

I sat in left field during the Parker just so I could get a full view of Cobra and that sign. Still my all-time favorite Pirate. I only wish he’d have been as dedicated to the sport at Bonds was. (Seriously.)

  94. Jandy says:

    Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  95. Andrew says:

I guess the Pens might want these two points.

  96. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Hooray for “good” Letang!

  97. JohninOshkosh says:

What a closing 2 minutes to this one!!!!

  98. theplanisworking says:

    Maybe.
Parker and Embiid are not sure if they are coming out, or staying another year in school.

But I can’t recall 2 teams stinking as bad in the same year as the Bucks and Sixers this year.

And, unless they draft a superstar, they will still stink for years to come!

  99. Sarah says:

Neither of these teams is going far.

  100. Jandy says:

Now Sarah, quit peeing in the Cheerios!

  101. Bizrow says:

I’m 64 and I still pout at times, tell me about it ;-)

  102. J Walter Weatherman says:

Bucks finally doing it right. No more sneaking into the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed with okay players and ruining their ability to draft a difference-maker.

  103. Sarah says:

Honestly PHL are such pansies. Look how upset they get over a basically whiffed hit by Glass. Morons. Maybe we can get in their head for a change.
    Pansies.

  104. JohninOshkosh says:

No way in h-e-double hockey sticks-do those two not come out. Embiid will be a very rich Buck if he comes out. That’s who they want.

I was a partial season ticket holder this year. Will be again, next. The heart wants what it wants.

  105. Sarah says:

Hah! Sorry. Jandster! But really, Oy. Ugly stuff.

  106. Jandy says:

    It’ P*ssies!

  107. Sarah says:

    HAH!!!!

  108. Sarah says:

    Shite

  109. J Walter Weatherman says:

Fleury …. oh boy … at least he doesn’t have to face Flyers in first round.

  110. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, we all have that guilty, stupid pleasure. ;)

  111. theplanisworking says:

    P-O-S-S-E. ;)

  112. Jandy says:

    POOP!

  113. Andrew says:

That is why they lead the league by 40 minutes in time short handed.

  114. Florida Steeler says:

Happens every year. Spring comes and our flower doesn’t bloom.

  115. DJ says:

    No, not that at all.

    He’s a little alley fighter.

  116. Sarah says:

    Let the Fleury Panic begin!!!!!!

  117. theplanisworking says:

Well, with that final POOP, I can tell the Pens lost.
Oh well, lets see who they get for the 1st round.
    If it isn’t Columbus, eh.

  118. theplanisworking says:

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  119. Dave G says:

    Egads.

Looks like Fleury is in playoff form.

  120. theplanisworking says:

Fleury is the least of my concerns with this team right now.
I haven’t felt this nervous about the Pens going into the playoffs since 2007.

  121. DJ says:

I believe Fleury may have been screened by Letang on the last one. If not, very weak by Fleury.

Would have preferred Letang stood his man up rather than backing off. Otherwise, thought Letang played well. Cannot believe he did not bury that one in OT.

  122. Rbilak says:

    1. Gibbons playing in playoffs would be a joke. His giveaway lead to a goal.

    2. I will say it now and all playoffs. Bortuzzo over Scuderi every game. Dan doesn’t have the stones to do it but he is much better and his hit today almost turned the game.

    3. So Harry Z played. Expect announcement in 30 seconds he has been sent back down.

    4. Hartnell may have actually done us a favor, Letang took it and it did not phase him.

    5. MAF goal, awful game winner. Reminds me of way too many playoff games. Pray it does not get in his head.

  123. theplanisworking says:

With today’s Philthy win, the Pens will either play Columbus, or Detroit.
Philthy has more regulation wins than those 2 teams.
A Columbus win tonight means the Pens would play them in the 1st round.

  124. Gene-Zo says:

Having a hard time seeing any positives in this one. And . . . at least two bad goals allowed by MAF don’t inspire confidence heading into playoffs.

  125. Sarah says:

Ehh, dunno if it was a screen. I thought he was going to deflect the pass across and caught it near the heel instead of the toe if the stick…..it happens. Whatever, anyone who frets about MAF in playoffs just got a load of ammo.

  126. Sarah says:

I saw one bad goal, the last. Which is the other you saw ?

  127. DJ says:

I’d rather play the Blue Jackets or Red Wings in the frst round and let the Flyers slug it out with the Rangers.

Zero home ice advantage against the Flyers.

  128. DJ says:

Saw only one angle on last goal, probably because NBC had to scoot off the air because of OT.

Would be good to see a camera shot from behind the goal on last one. That would tell the tale.

  129. Sam says:

what do you all think of Bylsma’s comment about Hartnell picking on Letang?

  130. DJ says:

    What did he say?

  131. Sam says:

Something about cant believe Hartnell was picking on a guy who had a stroke.i

  132. Florida Steeler says:

    Wow,
Glad you think Fleury is so wonderful after his last two playoff performances.

  133. Gene-Zo says:

The last two. (Goal #3, the dribbler that was poked in after it got thru MAF). I’m probably overreacting, but he just wasn’t sharp today.

  134. DJ says:

If true, very silly by Dan.

Unless Hartnell was making comments about his stroke, in which case that would more in line with the class of their organization.

  135. Sam says:

I hear ya. On both counts.

  136. DJ says:

If directed to Sarah, I don’t think she’s in the Fleury for President category.

My take is that it was more an observation and a prediction that the inevitable MAF fretting will begin anew.

  137. Sarah says:

Goal 3 was the terrific one timer of the post by Giroux. ….?
Goal 4 was appalling, for sure.

  138. Sarah says:

Thanks DJ. I’m on record saying they should have moved MAF last year even more so after they decided to extend Bylsma.
I like the kid and think he’s fabulously talented and athletic, but for this coach, with this D, very subject to mental breakdown under pressure.
He looks a lot more stable this year , but not expecting much in the playoffs, sadly.

I just get irritated when posters suggest every goal is his fault. I saw one bad one today, amid many of the usual defensive lapses.
Adams , I’m looking at you lol!!!!

  139. Gene-Zo says:

I’m sorry, it must have been the one that put PHI up 2-1, then. Thought it was soft. But I’m fighting the tendency to blame Fleury when in reality he’s played so consistently well all season. Maybe I’m the one with “Playoff nerves!”

  140. Sarah says:

Yeah no worries me too. Insure hope MAF overcomes his Playoff Jitters. That last goal was awful and gave the MAF Sux Brigade loads of ammo lol!!!

Anyway, playoffs are the only measurement that counts, so we’ll see I guess!

  141. Sarah says:

    DB is an idiot.
But that was my opinion before,so…..
