  2. tdb1977 says:

Nice to get that win from last nights game this afternoon. Now its time to warm up the bats and put a team effort out there and get the second victory against the Reds this evening.

  3. tdb1977 says:

    Bucs lineup for tonight

Did not see this…glad to see Gaby get another start against the RHP.

  6. Karen22 says:

    OK – I’ll have a double! Wins…wins…

  7. theplanisworking says:

  8. theplanisworking says:

Here is the irrelevant internet stat of the evening ………

The Royals, as a team, have as many HR’s as Travis Ishikawa…1. Bucs with 18 so far in 2014.

    Lets get 2 !

  9. Andrew says:

Those were two terrible at bats to start the game.

  10. Pucknutz says:

Nice win for the Bucs in the opener. Gonna be cooooold by the end of this one!

  11. Carlos Danger says:

    Make that 3.

  12. Andrew says:

I saw the Royals as a team would be ranked 103rd in home runs if they were a player.

  13. Milo Hamilton says:

  14. Andrew says:

Come one this is Mike Leake he isn’t exactly Nolan Ryan.

  15. Thundercrack says:

I thought Mesoraco had a tough time earlier tonight. It will be interesting to see if the Pirates run on him in game 2

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

He’s Greg Maddux against the Pirates. Or just a thief.

  17. Carlos Danger says:

He did look rough. His pitchers weren’t doing him any favors either.

  18. Thundercrack says:

“Jay Bruce hits it a long way to left”

Ball caught 5 steps in front of the warning track.

  19. Carlos Danger says:

Still amazed at how well Pedro runs the bases for a guy his size.

  20. Pucknutz says:

Ear flaps on a baseball cap…… take me back to 2nd grade hats…. LOL

  21. Thundercrack says:

West Virginia, Altoona, and Indianapolis all had their games postponed tonight

  22. Carlos Danger says:

Might make him more aerodynamic, hence the surprising base running ability.

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

Another year of Leake jokes. Never gets old. Hope he is never traded to the Bucs. #Macy’s.

  24. tdb1977 says:

Gaby is locked in right now. Gotta keep the hot bat in the lineup.

  25. Milo Hamilton says:

Big League games in Philly, New York, Baltimore & Detroit as well.

  26. Pucknutz says:

  27. JohninOshkosh says:

Warm clothing on sale at Macy’s, Mike. Free for you.

  28. tdb1977 says:

He’s on his way. Should be there so he can miss a couple of innings of the game :)

  29. Macy.

    I mean Mercy.

  30. theplanisworking says:

Is it me, or are these Cincy games not as much fun without the toothpick to kick around?

    Or Chapman?

  31. scapper says:

He is an amazing athlete despite his shape. Guy does some remarkable things with that body.

  32. tdb1977 says:

Our old hitting coach is there. Can we use him for fodder?

  33. Milo Hamilton says:

You’re right. Who would have ever thought baseball wouldn’t be as much fun without toothpicks and hookers.

  34. JohninOshkosh says:

    This material writes itself.

  35. theplanisworking says:

    I am always a willing set-up man ……….. :)

  36. Daquido_Bazzini says:

No….Keep Mr. Head Hunter at home in his garden.

  37. JohninOshkosh says:

The dumbest athlete crown, in terms of stupid behavior, currently has to rest with Aldon Smith.

Even before there was a TSA, or even before 09/11, the folks at airports took that stuff kinda seriously.

  38. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Did I just hear correctly that the Pirates have thrown out one of twelve potential base stealers so far this year?

  39. Pucknutz says:

Thought Snider gave up a little early on the fly to right….. maybe not , don,t let it by ya if ya miss.
No matter ….. nice DP… to end it.

  40. Andrew says:

They picked off Bonifico three times.

  41. theplanisworking says:

I still say the Pirates throw at his head too. :)

  42. Well, at least the Bucs won game 1 and both sides were glad to get it over with since it was 8 hours or so before they could play ball again. And now, hopefully, let’s hope there’ll be no further interruptions due to weather.

  43. Carlos Danger says:

I would also put a vote in for plaxico burress shooting himself in the leg at a nightclub. Might be a close 2nd.

  44. JohninOshkosh says:

Oh, the list is long, CD!

  45. Carlos Danger says:

Truly and sadly you are correct.

  46. Milo Hamilton says:

The Marlins have touched up Stephen Strasburg for 7 hits & 6 earned runs in 2 innings tonight. Looks like he’ll have to wait another 5 days for his 31st big league win.

  47. 21sthebest says:

No. 42 hit a monster 3 run homer off of him.

  48. Carlos Danger says:

No 42 has been doing a lot tonight for all teams. Must be a lucky number or something. Maybe related to the blood moon?

  49. Milo Hamilton says:

He’s done that to a few guys.

  50. Milo Hamilton says:

    That’s Pedro’s 3rd single of the season.

  51. Thundercrack says:

35 degrees at first pitch in Minnesota.

  52. Andrew says:

    Tony Sanchez make that throw.

  53. The Cardinals finally did last night what the Pirates couldn’t do this past weekend: They beat the Milwaukee Brewers and won three straight while doing so.

  54. Carlos Danger says:

    C’mon jordy. Make be believe.

  55. JohninOshkosh says:

Giancarlo hit a monster moon shot to get that Dolphin thingee moving.

  56. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I think I saw last night that they are leading the league also right now

  57. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

My old man always said that’s how Bob Prince would call games

  58. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Too soon?

  59. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    True story.

Awesome talent but has many issues.

  60. Lad 9 says:

One of the many things I like about Gerritt Cole is the look he has when an opponent gets a hit off of him that maybe shouldn’t have. I get that kind of look if I forget to do something around the house. Actually, I get it even when I remember to do it….

  61. Pucknutz says:

LOL Lad…. I am walkin around in that fog allll the time! :)

  62. Milo Hamilton says:

Pretty lazy by Martin on that wild pitch.

  63. Brandie says:

    Testify Temptress!

  64. Brandie says:

That bat is the only thing hot tonight!

  65. Andrew says:

That is a total Small Park shot, not that Cole has pitched all that well.

  66. Brandie says:

    Tweet the ‘Ol Lad Niner!

  67. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    The pitcher???

  68. Arriba Wilver says:

Cole’s fallen off a cliff this inning. 2 2 run homers, one that Leake stole.

  69. Brandie says:

Sounds like the title of an Old timey country song…Toothpicks and Hookers…By Hank Williams Jr.

  70. Thundercrack says:

Leake looks better at the plate than Marte

  71. Brandie says:

    Pitcher homers? That is painful.

  72. Thundercrack says:

I think Leake’s homer is an out at PNC Park

  73. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Neverett is just not very good.

Seems like a nice guy, but…..

  74. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I don’t know TC, he roped that ball.

  75. Wild Bill says:

Gaby would like to stay in the lineup.

  76. Thundercrack says:

Just going to say that this extended broadcast makes me miss Greg Brown

  77. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Gaby with a nice double.

I still think he gives the Pirates the best offensive/defensive punch at 1B.

Especially, if he can continue to hit RHP.

Taking nothing away from Ishi’s effort this year.

  78. Jandy says:

Snowing in Altoona. Temps in the 20’s

  79. Jandy says:

  80. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I agree with that. Not a huge GB fan either, but considering the alternative, I’ll take him.

  81. Arriba Wilver says:

It was hit a long way, but to left field. I think TC’s probably right on that one. But we aren’t playing at PNC.

  82. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    I retract my last statement.

That was a terrible AB by Ishi

  83. Reading says:

    Quality AB. Quality.

  84. Jandy says:

Wth is wrong with Marte? Is he broken???

  85. tdb1977 says:

Just waiting to get beaned to get on base.

  86. Reading says:

That whole “Dripping with Power” thing needs to manifest itself right now.

  87. Arriba Wilver says:

    3 run homer time.

  88. Jandy says:

  89. Andrew says:

    Marte has games like this.

  90. Patrick(ri) says:

Maybe he hates the cold? Leake makes him look like a little leaguer.

  91. Andrew says:

    Opposite field flare time.

  92. Reading says:

Okay. Reds. Do not mess up my joke by forcing a pinch hitter.

  93. Thundercrack says:

    Signed a big contract

  94. Lad 9 says:

    BRANDIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Good evening Muppet!

  95. Carlos Danger says:

Out broadcasters are the worst. They almost offend me. It’s a shame.

  96. Patrick(ri) says:

If Votto isn’t the best pure hitter in bb, he is close.

  97. Carlos Danger says:

    Fail. Not your fault.

  98. Andrew says:

Honest question do you listen to many other teams’ broadcasters? I listen to a good number of Phillies and Orioles games and generally think they are worse, the Phillies guys are insufferable.

  99. Carlos Danger says:

I misquoted it as “oozing with power” earlier this season, which was way more disgusting sounding. I am also rooting for him. Just FYI.

  100. Jandy says:

Is that better or worse than getting married??

  101. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

That catch makes up for his AB.

  102. Jandy says:

Man! That was a nice catch though.

  103. Patrick(ri) says:

Contract does’t seem to affect his fielding.

  104. Thundercrack says:

We don’t have the correct infield shift for Votto

  105. Daquido_Bazzini says:

What’s it take for the HP ump to call a third strike on Votto?…..A million bucks?????????????

  106. tdb1977 says:

Nice catch by Marte in left field.

  107. Jandy says:

  108. Jandy says:

    A gazillion

  109. Jandy says:

    Well…that stinks…

  110. Andrew says:

Well that failed on a couple levels.

  111. JD says:

    Listen to Reds announcers. Horrible!

  112. Patrick(ri) says:

  113. Milo Hamilton says:

Still waiting for the saber crowd to come up with a shift for the balls that land in the seats.

  114. Jandy says:

You stated that much more politely than I did.

  115. Jandy says:

  116. tdb1977 says:

I really hope one doesn’t end up in the seats at this point of the game.

  117. Milo Hamilton says:

Jeanmar Gomez in any kind of an important situation is generally a bad idea.

  118. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Ball game.

Can’t win them all and they got to Cole and Justin Wilson.

    Tip the hat

  119. Andrew says:

  120. Florida Steeler says:

Comcast cleaned the Phillies booth out-new guys are pretty bad.

  121. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

You’re on the money. I’d say best pure hitter in NL and second in baseball, behind Migual Cabrera.

  122. Patrick(ri) says:

Gotta quit bringing in this #42.

  123. Andrew says:

    Don’t they have Sean Casey?

  124. Jandy says:

Bases loaded…don’t matter who’s brought in…no-win situation. Ugh

  125. Jandy says:

    Unless it’s ours!

  126. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Beat that out….

    Throw the challenge flag!!

  127. Jandy says:

umps are cold and wanna go home

  128. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Send him down

  129. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

You can tell by their strike zone tonight.

  130. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Holy crap by NW

  131. Jandy says:

    Hot dayum!

  132. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

BTW, I hate the yes, yes, yes chant.

  133. Lad 9 says:

The real deal! Didn’t think Neil had that much power batting righty.

  134. Jandy says:

    Don’t be a hater, Ryan :p

  135. Jandy says:

Will he be tested for ‘roids????

  136. Patrick(ri) says:

I think he played hurt the last two years. His swing has sped up and he just looks like he feels good out there? And I was disappointed when he refused to stop switch hitting – hah!

  137. Andrew says:

First baserunner Martin has got this year.

  138. Jandy says:

Russell finally gets the throw on target :)

  139. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Impressive Russell Martin, very impressive.

  140. Patrick(ri) says:

    You kake a very tempting comment . . .

  141. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Can’t help it. It’s stupid, even in WWE

Daniel Bryan is a joke of a Superstar.

    Sorry, old school WWE fan.

  142. Patrick(ri) says:

  143. Lad 9 says:

I have seen enough of Mr. Votto for one evening.

  144. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Pretty sure they all get tested

  145. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I’ll admit, I love watching him bat.

  146. Patrick(ri) says:

Indianapolis seems to be beckoning to Gomez.

  147. Lad 9 says:

I do too Ryan. He is the consummate professional hitter. I just hate to see him against the Pirates.

  148. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Used to listen to the Giants and A’s broadcasts. Both very good, Giants are best in the business.

  149. Lad 9 says:

“Indiana Wants Me”. 1970’s # 1hit by R Dean Taylor

  150. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I don’t like that part either, but no harm, no foul.

  151. Patrick(ri) says:

    Jordy almost got that one.

  152. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Neverett doesn’t realize the Reds fans are mocking the Pirates with that “Yes” chant.

  153. Patrick(ri) says:

Not everything was disco back then

  154. Andrew says:

    Out of options.

  155. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Need that one….

Except they just announced Josh Harrison batting.

  156. casper in a-town says:

Kinda like Bob doesn’t get that Neverett is mocking him with the waning gibbious.

  157. The Gunner says:

Gomez stepped up last year & did a pretty good job in multiple roles. Tonight our pitching (Cole, Wilson, & Gomez) just hasn’t been good enough to stop Votto & company.

  158. Lad 9 says:

Yeah, I know. Almost certainly going to lose him if we DFA him, but he doesn’t look sharp at all this year.

  159. JD says:

    No Casey.

  160. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Absolute best case scenario for the Pirates right here.

  161. Patrick(ri) says:

    Do you steal 2nd?

  162. Andrew says:

I miss stuff, I wish this blog a sarcasm font. Most middle relievers are not very good, get some groundballs and do walk too many guys and I am happy.

  163. Patrick(ri) says:

    Broxton got lucky . . .

  164. Andrew says:

    *do not walk

  165. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Kept thinking Cutch might be due to hit one out there.

  166. The Gunner says:

That song came out in the latter part of 1970, way before disco!

  167. Patrick says:

You are right — early 70’s was when it started (@1972).

  168. Bizrow says:

    Its early

    But its late

    Night all, good tidings

    12:35, whatever day it is
