    What we know

    1. No matter what is said or by whom, no one on the team listens. Ignorant penalties, still come at an alarming rate. Neal’s interference call last game started the comeback, who saw that coming?

    2. Unusual for Dan to single anyone out but he did on MAF. In my opinion, MAF lost the game on the third goal. His confidence and that of his teammates was destroyed yet again by that goal. I am happy to hear he handled it well in press conference, what would make me more happy would be him to handle it in the actual game when it counted. Dan is desperate, he is playing only card left, calling out his players, because no one is ever actually held accountable.

    3. Peyton Crosby/Malkin have not scored a goal since the Ottawa series, guess they must be hurt.

    4. Awaiting word on Orpik, Dan must be drooling to play #5 over Bortuzzo. Bortuzzo should be playing over Scuderi. Contract over play. Dan is scared Bort would hit Dubinsky since the rest of his gutless teammates won’t.

    5. Pens won’t play 60 minutes in a game. No lead is safe.

    6. We are excited Goc is coming back. Wow.

I see two outcomes for the game

    A. Against all odds, they listen, play a disciplined game for 60 minutes. MAF reads Freud, understands ID, Ego, Super Ego, passes it on to Malkin and Crosby, they both score. Letang ensures he makes smart passes, the PK gets a boost on Adams birthday, Neal also takes no penalties, Glass challenges Dubinsky, Bortuzzo shows everyone why it is idiotic that Scuderi is playing over him and stays in line up as Scuderi watches goals scored from press box instead of while on the ice.

    B. Columbus scores early, crowd turns on Pens, idiotic penalties occur, MAF melts down totally, Sid and Geno start a brawl. Dan has press conference announces Status Quo for next game, says MAF is it, Bennett is top 6 winger, and Depress is top 4 D. Dan is then told Depress is in WBS. MAF blames Shrink, says Shrink had too many patients this year and needed a back-up Shrink.

  2. d says:

    LMAO!!!!

  3. Sarah says:

I’m glad to see that the conversation in the media and elsewhere is now getting to the point that “something is wrong”.

What I have not heard is WHY the various things that have been pointed out as gong wrong, are actually going wrong.

For ex) Sid and Geno not producing (alarming nbrs)….but,….WHY?
    Are they injured?
Are they tired? (This should be the time of year that fatigue is forgotten….)
Line mates not up to the task?
Other team shutTing them down effectively? (If so, HOW?) line matching?
Coach’s scheme putting them in poor position to succeed/setting them up to fail? (If so HOW?)
Sick of the coach/system? (If so WHY?)

Much as I like DK and glad he is one of the few that pokes around these dangerous waters….it seems too simplistic to just say “Sid and Geno need to step up”

    WHY can’t/aren’t they???

I just get frustrated cos the “next question” never seems to be asked or explored…..

Ex) BB scores on tHe PP, and is never put on the PP again (game 2 I believe)…he is placed on 3!rd line while Gibbons is promoted to 1st…..Bylsma is (correctly) asked about it in the presser…..and gives his more and more typical half hearted response re “we liked what Beau was bringing to the 3rd line” or words to that effect.
Trouble is, Bennet was BENCHED. He got 5 mins total on the 3rd line after the 1st period. BENCHED.
So, the normal FOLLOW UP question we might expect to be asked of BYlsma might be “well if you liked him so much on the 3rd line, WHY did he only get 5 mins the rest of the game?”
The follow up question to put the lie to Bylsma’s often nonsensical presser statements just seem NOT to be asked.

He said he was “shortening the bench” to 7 guys, for example. Follow up : “Coach can you clarify that Gibbons and Adams ARE in your top 7 but Bennett(2 pts including assist on the GWG on one of his 3 total 3rd period shifts ) and Stempniak, are NOT?”

Bylsma questions the team’so effort after the Game 4 debacle. Follow up: ” Coach, if you’re so concerned the team needs to work harder, WHY did you cancel practice, AGAIN?”

    And so on.

Full disclosure: I do a ton of business travel in Canada around Toronto, and listen to the hockey commentary, post game pressers and so on.

If Bylsma was put in front of those guys, he’d be eaten alive. He would simply not be allowed to get away with the kind of weak, nonsensical answers he puts up, and the follow ups would be brutal.

To be clear, I am glad DK is paddling near these waters, but man, I wish there was more.

  4. hockeymonster says:

Blah blah blah…this is all way too much over analysis. This is what we need to do:

Hire a hypnotist, preferably a canadian one, and have him or her convince Sid that if pens don’t win next 2 games with him dominating that his Gold medals get taken away.

    Boom!!! Problem solved!

    You’re Welcome Pittsburgh! :)

  5. JohninOshkosh says:

If the Wings win this afternoon, 4 of the 8 first round playoffs will be at 3-2.

And the Philly-Ranger series tomorrow will make it 5 of 8.

No gimmees in the NHL playoffs, including the first round.

    This ain’t no picnic.

  6. Jandy says:

That’s the way to the Stanley Cup…the hard way!

  7. Rbilak says:

    Questions for Dan

Is it by design your D let O in front of MAF unchecked? Why?

Do you notice every goal, Scuderi is on the ice watching it go in? Any thought to playing Bortuzzo over him? Is it due to money?

What exactly do you see the purpose of your 3/4 line?

Pyatt, Kobesaw got plenty of opportunities, why do you and the organization hate Harry Z?

The team continues to lack discipline why? What are you going to do to change it? If that doesn’t work then what?

The powerplay continus to give up as many chances as they get, what s being done to address this? Why hasn’t worked?

Do you see Dubinsky abuse Sid? What s being done to address this? It is game 5, other than Tanner Glass verbally telling him “Please do not do that or coach will put sanctions against you” why has no one challenged him? You seemed to have very little issue with Thorton assaulting Orpik, called Thorton Good Guy, why can’t we “Thorton” Dubinsky with one four nice guys?

Those are some ai would love to ask

  8. Rbilak says:

Glad, highly sarcastic but with a lot of truths

  9. Brandie says:

This team has done everything the hard way!

  10. d says:

You will never have these questions, you know, the difficult ones that portray the organization in a negative light, asked by Rossi or Yohe. Simply WILL NOT happen! I believe they like their jobs :)

  11. JohninOshkosh says:

    Bruins advance.

  12. Eric Bowser says:

    Parody Title: Let Dan Go
    Music: Let It Go (Frozen)

The Stanley Cup playoffs all but end tonight
Not a chance to win to be seen
    A Dynasty of consolation
And it looks we’re a dream

The fans are howling like the yinzers outside
Couldn’t keep them in, heaven knows Dan tried

Don’t let them know, don’t them see
be the bad team you always have to be
conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
    Well, now they know

Let Dan Go, Let Dan Go
    Can’t hold him back anymore
Let Dan Go, Let Dan Go
Turn him away and slam the door

    I don’t care
    What they’re going to say
    Let the Penguins play on
The ice never bothered me anyway

    It’s funny how some losses
    makes everything seem wrong
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all

It’s time to see what I can do
without Dan Byslma to break through
No details, no rules for me
    I’m free

Let Dan Go, Let Dan Go
I am one with the ice and skates
Let Dan Go, Let Dan Go
    You’ll never see me check

    Here I skate
    And here I’ll score
    Let the Penguins play on

Marc-Andre Fleury leaps through the air
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
    I’m never going back
    The past in the past

Let Dan Go, Let Dan Go
And I’ll win a Stanley Cup
Let Dan Go, Let Dan Go
    That good boy is gone

    here I skate,
    In the light of day
    Let the Penguins play on
The ice never bothered me anyway

  13. scapper says:

Thank for this post, Oshkosh. Good lord, this is the 2014 NHL, not the days when the Habs, Isles and Oilers could cruise through the early rounds pretty much untested. Sure, if the Pens lose the next two games, then it’s time for some serious questions, changes, etc., but until then, I’m not going to go all scorched-earth on the team.

I’m going to settle in for another tight game between two teams that DO care and DO play hard. I still hold with my pre-series prediction of Pens in 6-7.

  14. scapper says:

I think Ace sums it up pretty well:

  15. Brandie says:

Wow Eric B….Wow! You are very creative. I have thought there has been a deeply rooted problem, injuries aside, for quite some time. Too many Mavericks being reckless and sloppy, not enough accountability. We shall see what the night brings!

  16. Andrew says:

Just think, Bruins don’t score two with the net empty or Phil Kessel puts one in OT, and Bruins go out in the first round last year.

  17. Bizrow says:

Pens in 6, book it ;-)

  18. Jandy says:

    +++++

  19. Jandy says:

    BoooOooo!

  20. Sarah says:

Actually there was not much analysis at all.
    I was asking for some.
    That has been sorely missing.

  21. Eric Bowser says:

I’m just right and those of you who disagree just can’t take it.

So of course you can’t retort.

  22. Eric Bowser says:

Coaches are hired to be fired in hockey, he’ll get another opportunity but his voice is stale and team needs a new one.

  23. Sarah says:

Well that is the problem IMO….those are indeed uncomfortable questions to ask.
In other cities, esp Canadian cities, they do get asked. No matter how much it makes the coach squirm.

    Here, not so much.

I think DK comes close….wish he would come closer.
I am getting more from Savran also. He ripped the team this week. I’ve not yet looked up the pods though, just heard it elsewhere, but good on ya Stan.

Bylsma should be getting raked over the coals in these pressers. Just raked.

  24. Jandy says:

haha you crack me up, eric!

  25. hockeymonster says:

Was trying to be silly and lighten the mood. Did it work?

  26. Sam says:

    bravo. thanks for some sanity

  27. Jandy says:

    for some…maybe lol

  28. Sarah says:

Well so much for that. They have been rolling and continue to roll.
Iginla scores the OT back breaker in game 4.

And we could have kept him.

  29. Eric Bowser says:

Penguins game plan is quite simple

    1) Win faceoffs
    2) Get puck deep
    3) Win race to loose puck
    4) Work puck up high
    5) Crash the net
    6) Put the puck on net
    7) Battle for rebounds

If you watch the Penguins in games 1 and 3, they did just that and Jackets couldn’t handle the more talented Penguins.

  30. Sarah says:

Pens in six, and Bylsma re-upped.
Sid and Geno another year older.
    Book it.

  31. Jandy says:

    Lurch! Free rides aren’t good!

  32. Jandy says:

    ooops wrong thread, sorry

  33. Sarah says:

Hah! No but no worries. I’m just byotchin, nothing will change in this town.

  34. d says:

It is the Pittsburgh “way”. I don’t agree with it AT ALL! But the locals would rather watch their sports team thru their rose colored glasses and tell their sports teams “Oh its ok, golly gee, we’ll get em next year. (This is total sarcasm for those who don’t get it) :)

  35. Eric Bowser says:

you can see the song on my facebook….. lol

  36. JohninOshkosh says:

Maybe if the Pens lose, Mario will sell the team to Donald Sterling and John Tortorella will be named head coach.

We can only hope! Scorched Earth, baby!!!

  37. scapper says:

Not being a smart*** at all…your No. 3 has always been the main thing I look for in playoff games. Not only getting to the puck, but coming away with possession in the battles. All the other stats don’t matter. Once you get a feel for who’s winning the puck battles, you can pretty much predict the outcome.

  38. scapper says:

“And you wanna be my latex salesman.”

  39. Brandie says:

    Done it myself!

  40. Jandy says:

Tortella is named coach of the Pens and I’m bailing! GAWD!

  41. Jandy says:

    LOL!

  42. Eric Bowser says:

that’s exactly the main issue for the Penguins. They lack speed on the third and fourth lines, which allows for opposition to win battles and then control the puck. Possession is important.

  43. Jandy says:

Tabby’s turning into a fine right fielder :)

  44. Brandie says:

    Wrong thread Jandy. :)

  45. hockeymonster says:

    Riverhounds winning? Oops wrong thread.

  46. Eric Bowser says:

    Warm ups….

    Kunitz – Crosby – Stempniak
    Jokinen – Malkin – Neal
    Bennett – Sutter – Vitale
    Glass – Goc – Adams

    Martin – Letang
    Maatta – Niskanen
    Scuderi – Bortuzzo

  47. JohninOshkosh says:

This is hilarious. Post of the afternoon1

  48. JohninOshkosh says:

    1 should be !

You see, one has to depress the shift key to get the symbol above the number to appear.

  49. Jandy says:

    Goc! :)

  50. Jandy says:

YAY for me :) See, that’s what happens when I multi, multi task!

  51. Jandy says:

Now I smell like gasoline as well, helping hubby get some gas into the ol’ ’78 highboy pick up.

    what a day!

  52. Richard says:

How about everyone just lighten up and enjoy the game and the rest of the series. Quit over analyzing everything. If they win great. If they lose it’s not the end of the world.

  53. Jandy says:

OK gotta go grab something to eat…maybe some pizza…be back..
    Go Pens!

  54. Eric Bowser says:

Yes, four years ago… not now.

  55. hockeymonster says:

If pens can win this game we’ll only need to win 1 out of the next 2 to advance.

  56. JohninOshkosh says:

    #analysis

    lol

  57. hockeymonster says:

Cant even take credit for that one. Totally channeling milo on that one.

  58. JohninOshkosh says:

I’m predicting the Pens go on an offensive explosion tonight.

    Pens 5
    Ohio State Buckeyes 1

  59. Sarah says:

    Hear ya.
To be clear I understand the dilemma as a professional….you NEED access, need the guys on the team to be willing to talk to you….so calling them out, ripping them, asking nasty questions…..all hard to do, and of course you do not want to get cut out.

But it’s almost a team thing. If everyone in the media is asking these nasty questions, then you can too. You have the advantage as part of a group.
If NO ONE is….we’ll, then it’s tough….you break away from the friendly group, ask the ugly questions, and everyone stops talking to you.
    I get it.

But the group has to hitch up its boots and just have EVERYONE ask the nasty questions. It’s starting to happen, a little.

But man, when I’m driving in Ontario and listening to the media re the Habs or Leafs or whatnot, I just shake my head.
    Disco would get killed. Seriously.

  60. Richard says:

    Why?

  61. Richard says:

    Why?

  62. chethejet1 says:

Good to see some Pens fans are just walking away from spending on the crap of a program. Let Mario see a bunch of blue seats and maybe he finally gets it. This is a stale and boring team. Perhaps Mario see the Canadians sweeping the Bolts and wonders if Shero and Bylsma didn’t smoke it past him the last number of years.

  63. Eric Bowser says:

Apparently, Fleury slipped coming onto ice….

  64. Brandie says:

Got Chills hearing Jeff Jimerson and the cried singing the National Anthem!

  65. Brandie says:

    Crowd not cried!!

    Sheesh! ;)

  66. Barb says:

Why is Orpik not playing tonight?

  67. Eric Bowser says:

No one has reported why yet.

  68. Brandie says:

    Undisclosed injury.

  69. Brandie says:

    Left practice yesterday.

  70. Barb says:

Those ghost injuries curl my toes.

  71. Rbilak says:

    Undisclosed injury

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

Well, this is some of the most insulting stuff I’ve read about the professionalism of the Pittsburgh media.

Kovacevic is an award winning columnist and journalist. Has balls the size of church bells, by the way. Rossi is Chair of the PHWA. I’m sure he was elected to that position by his peers. Also, a member of the HWA . Yohe is one of the best beat guys on the block. Every single one of them to a man doesn’t have an once of unprofessional blood in their veins. Straight up pros all the way. Fair and critical. Unbiased.

The way these guys get their ethics questioned here, makes you wonder why Dejan doesn’t blow this blog up. One thing to question their opinions and conclusions. It’s another thing altogether to question their journalistic ethics and integrity. And when you call a journalist a homer or soft, then that is exactly what you are doing.

  73. Brandie says:

Jenner with a penalty only to be matched by Kunitz with interference.

  74. Barb says:

Kunitz didn’t knock Bobrovsky hard enough.

  75. Brandie says:

    Bobrovsky is Sofff.

  76. Lad 9 says:

Looked like a goalie dive to me, but why put yourself in that position if you are Kunitz?

  77. Jay says:

    Where’s THAT embellishment call????

  78. Rbilak says:

Watching Bruins/Wings they talked about this being something NHL looking for. Guess Dan did not get memo.

Kunitz with first ignorant penalty of the night. Who’s next? But they will certainly discuss this after the game.

  79. hockeymonster says:

Ok once again…Dmen need to murphy dump the puck out a few times so forwards can catch up. Columbus pressure is closing gaps, we need to go over the top. Again…preferably cross corner into the NZ so forwards can use their speed.

  80. Rbilak says:

Watching Malkin play, I see a penalty coming up on him.

  81. Sarah says:

    Hope you’re kidding.

  82. Sarah says:

John, when Bylsma stammers that they “liked what BB was doing on the third line” and no one follows up with….”then why did you bench him?”
    Sorry, that is weak.

If that strikes you as insulting, then, too bad.

Go listen to hockey media in Canada and imagine Bylsma in that fray.

  83. Rbilak says:

Seriously does anyone else see us leave the guy in front of net not being covered.

  84. Jay says:

    Columbus scores first…..they lose

  85. hockeymonster says:

How could’ve both refs seen the puck?

  86. d says:

UH OH! The lug nuts are loosening!

  87. Sarah says:

    Oh dear.
Cripes Olli just fell on MAF there…

  88. Rbilak says:

Dumb, ignorant, stupid penalty in offensive zone by Goc. Costs goal. Second one of game. 4th line guy gets penalty. Letang doing MAF impression on play.

  89. d says:

I could’ve sworn I read something that James “THE REAL DEAL” Neal said that the Pens were going to redeem themselves and play a better brand of hockey?

  90. d says:

Well, at least the fans are doing their part and cheering…

  91. Rbilak says:

See frustration. A Letang, Malkin or Crosby penalty is coming. Can feel it.

  92. Florida Steeler says:

It might be time to ask the question is Columbus just better than us???

  93. hockeymonster says:

    Is 71 awake?

  94. Eric Bowser says:

    Is 87?

When your two highest paid players are not scoring, there’s nothing else to question from a player perspective.

  95. d says:

He doesn’t want to hurt is chances in free agency this summer.

  96. Rbilak says:

    Determined, tougher, intense, fearless.

  97. d says:

They appear to want it more than the Pens do.

  98. Sarah says:

Except WHY they are not scoring.

  99. Bizrow says:

Its early, 40 minutes to go

  100. Sarah says:

Then Tanger cross checks Jenner, and while he’s standing back admiring his work, Jenner bounces back and pokes it in.
    Sweet.

I actually thought MAF had it under his mitt there for a second, but, oh well.

  101. Florida Steeler says:

Good question–we know Bobrovsky is good but is he that good?? Plus, Malkin and Crosby are getting limited shots??

  102. Andrew says:

Because shots are not going in.

  103. Eric Bowser says:

Tonight, Crosby and Malkin have a chance to write a new legend and that wasn’t the first 20 minutes that I was expecting to see but after Boston undressed them last season, I guess maybe we shouldn’t be surprised.

  104. d says:

Legend! In a Round 1 playoff game against COLUMBUS! Sad! Just plain SAD!

  105. Andrew says:

Not a fan of this Crosby Malkin line, both of them with their own linemates were able to dictate pace play. Pens were better 5v5, but once again they cannot kill penalties anymore, a screen in front of net limits Fluery’s best asset, his side to side quickness, not sure why they decided to just let a skater park himself there.

  106. Karen22 says:

Oh, for God’s sake! How juvenile is THAT??!!

  107. Karen22 says:

    One can only HOPE!

  108. Karen22 says:

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…

  109. d says:

Because they can’t clear them out!

  110. Rbilak says:

I gotta say Dan’s calling out team really showed. They came out flying. Malkin trying to score, for Columbus.

MAF down on goal looked like the panic MAF of past. Could have easily got the puck.

If I see Scuderi on PK, letting man in front screen MAF, have easy rebound I am gonna go through TV and hit him. Seriously the Jackets will score at will on PK with him out there.

The same moronic penalties do it again. Dan puts Goc out for next shift. Brilliant.

I see stars getting upset. Longer it goes the more I expect them to come unglued. Fans are turning on them.

Maybe they can play 40 minutes of hockey?

These guys seem to think they are entitled to win. Zero effort.

  111. Karen22 says:

This team simply HAS to win tonight. AND with input from the “world’s greatest players.” MUST MUST MUST.

  112. Karen22 says:

    Because. That’s why.

  113. hockeymonster says:

You know i had something hit me like a ton of bricks….

Did I hear captain canada say the burden of expectations and pressure was affecting him and the team??? A canadian said there here???? In the burgh? You effin kidding me??? EFFIN GET OUT THERE AND START KICKIN SOME ASS ALREADY! Come on sid n geno…time to quit snoozing….alarm clock has been ringing…

  114. Andrew says:

    5v5 shots Penguins 13, Jackets 3.

  115. d says:

Typical “homer” response. Nothing to back it up… :)

  116. Jandy says:

    There’s a whole lot going on….undercurrents…more than we’ll ever know…

  117. Karen22 says:

Can we please leave the “Stupid Penalty Monster” in the locker room for the rest of the night?? PLEASE??

  118. Jandy says:

    why not?

  119. Jandy says:

Smartest thing you’ve said all week :)

  120. twentytwo22 says:

Malkin takes the ice with Jokinen and Neal and gets called back. There’s a message there.

  121. Jandy says:

    why not?

  122. Sarah says:

    He is not that good.

  123. d says:

Neal probably thinks he is being rewarded

  124. Florida Steeler says:

You could be right but if so, why is Mario, et.al not doing something about it?

  125. Jandy says:

    The $64,000 question…

  126. hockeymonster says:

Eff that. We know whats going on but still…go out and play. Show some pride for goodness sakes.

  127. Jandy says:

    Well, it’s a man thing, I guess ;)

  128. Eric Bowser says:

    No emotion, no desperation…. nothing

  129. Sarah says:

    This.
Good lord what a totally dead game.

  130. Jandy says:

I missed it, what is up with Brooksie?

  131. Dom says:

We were purposely not watching the game as we were had it recorded on TiVo and were trying to kill time so we could avoid commercials and intermission. Up until a few seconds ago we thought we wasted enough time and started the recording. The TiVo guide showed this game as playing on both root and NBC sports. We recorded one of the two, which turned out to be NBC. We turn on the just to find out they’re running a special on the greatest American hockey players in lieu of the game. We missed the entire first period. Bummer.

  132. Jandy says:

I look at Sid and see…nothing. Just a mask. That’s not good.

  133. Jandy says:

    didn’t miss much, Domski

  134. Sarah says:

Is Bylsma trying to match lines now? I am trying to get a feed in my hotel…..?

  135. Eric Bowser says:

Well look at that…. someone was in front of the net. AMAZING

  136. hockeymonster says:

ugly goal alert ugly goal alert

  137. Rbilak says:

Why are they showing a Pens preseason game on Root? Oh wait………. Could not tell the difference in intensity level, my bad.

  138. hockeymonster says:

    Dzone starts are good.

  139. hockeymonster says:

    +

  140. Sarah says:

    Koooooon!

  141. Brandie says:

    Nimitz opens it up. :)

  142. hockeymonster says:

Did we start vitale in NZ on letestu instead of sid after a TV TO???

  143. Jandy says:

Wouldn’t surprise me, Vitale is showing more life than anyone else on the team.

  144. Brandie says:

    Kunitz, not Nimitz!

  145. Jandy says:

lol. That’s all right, I post on the wrong thread ;)

  146. hockeymonster says:

Nisky and tanger look dangerous as a pair.

  147. hockeymonster says:

in a good way i mean

  148. Andrew says:

    Officiating has been bad.

  149. Eric Bowser says:

Sutter is looking like a real NHL center…. all over the place.

  150. Brandie says:

Since when does the Ghost of Admiral Nimitz play hockey? Although if he cam deliver and finish his checks we’ll take him!

  151. Jandy says:

He and Vitale look the best tonight

  152. hockeymonster says:

We ready to give sid and geno their own units yet? I mean really…

  153. Bizrow says:

    Talent vs character

What does not kill you makes you stronger

    Lets see what happens

    Even after 2

  154. hockeymonster says:

We did score a PP goal but there’s still no element of surprise. Too predictable. IMHO.

  155. Eric Bowser says:

The lack of a right-handed shot down low is a huge problem.

No idea why they don’t try Beau Bennett… so simple to try.

  156. scapper says:

Yeah, that 50+ win regular season was a real snooze-a-thon. C’mon, guy.

  157. Karen22 says:

HA! Hardly a “homer.” I’m from Cleveland and live 60 miles from Pittsburgh. TOO much talent to be overshadowed by a lesser team. If the Pens lose tonight, I don’t see them recovering. That’s why. :D

  158. Karen22 says:

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  159. hockeymonster says:

    Tanganon.

  160. Jandy says:

Sarah’s been preaching that for a long time now.

  161. hockeymonster says:

Dont even have to do it all the time.

  162. Jandy says:

    You tell ‘em, temptress!!

  163. At long last, the Bucs won one over the Cardinals today. Now can someone tell me why the Bucs couldn’t beat Miller last night although he was pitching badly enough to lose?

  164. hockeymonster says:

I do hope pens realize that this could be the best thing that ever happened to them….IF they get it together and keep it together for 1 more period. Team has skated by with only injuries as their adversity. Fighting through a Heavy team would be a good confidence builder in the long run. Really would. Just need to stay sharp and get through NZ with speed and numbers so we can hold onto the puck.

  165. d says:

    Karen:

Where is it written that talent trumps all??? I hear Cleveland is “beautiful” this time of year :)

  166. hockeymonster says:

    Effin right.

  167. Jandy says:

    JUICY JUSSi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  168. Jandy says:

    fackin’ right!!!!

  169. Dom says:

    Double J with the goal!

  170. hockeymonster says:

    POP

  171. J Walter Weatherman says:

should we hope the pens don’t score again for a 3-1 lead?

  172. Jandy says:

    …goes the weasel!

  173. scapper says:

Reason Why I Married My Wife, Vol. 4,629:

Puck was barely past the red line when she said, “Now don’t score another one!” You know, the 3-1 thing…

  174. Eric Bowser says:

Sutter line again making things happen.

Stempniak switches to LW, gets shot off, Sutter (AGAIN) whacks it and Jokinen for the tap in.

    2-1 Pens

  175. J Walter Weatherman says:

Its been said before, but sutter is the best penguin tonight.

  176. J Walter Weatherman says:

it might be wise to leave neal on the bench the rest of the evening

  177. hockeymonster says:

Someone get geno some smelling salts please.

  178. Jandy says:

And Crosby just did a Genover…

  179. Jandy says:

I’d much rather stick my size 9 wides up ….

  180. hockeymonster says:

Ya he thought bortuzzo was much faster than he is…

  181. Jandy says:

Can’t believe sutter didn’t get a shot off there :/

  182. Jandy says:

He needs to be aware of where Borts is…

  183. hockeymonster says:

And now we can properly welcome columbus to Consol Dome!

  184. scapper says:

So…three D-men on this powerplay maybe? Surely the CBJ’s don’t have another shortie in them, do they?

  185. Dom says:

Have the refs favored us in this series?

  186. J Walter Weatherman says:

Maybe the Pens should put 3 defensemen on the ice for this PP. I’m kidding … kind of.

  187. Andrew says:

No they just have been bad, very inconsistent.

  188. Andrew says:

    Kill the game four forwards.

  189. Andrew says:

    Not icing.

  190. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Put the backup goalie in!!!

  191. Gene-Zo says:

    This 3-1 is a WINNER!!!

  192. Eric Bowser says:

great hustle Adams….. Letang into empty net.

  193. Dom says:

    That’s all she wrote!

  194. Andrew says:

You don’t want a two goal lead.

  195. scapper says:

Hope all you “Pens have no heart” people enjoyed the work that went into that EN goal…and the whole game.

  196. Jandy says:

This game was exhausting to watch

  197. Lad 9 says:

+ a ton! Close them out in C-Bus!

  198. Jay says:

I told ya back at 7:43PM…..first goal loses :-)

  199. Barb says:

My heart can’t take too many of these games. But what a GAME!

  200. TJA says:

A good night and day for our black and gold teams!

  201. Eric Bowser says:

Great work from Fleury, Sutter, Kunitz, Martin, and Letang.

  202. Jandy says:

    YOu called it, jay!

  203. Jandy says:

    Wow, Barb!

  204. Jandy says:

    Where’s the love for vitale???

  205. scapper says:

    Witness!

  206. Sam says:

    again. bravo.

  207. scapper says:

    How did you survive ’09?

  208. J Walter Weatherman says:

Best game Letang has played in a looooong time. Martin and Sutter are evenly split for team MVP in the series so far. I’d throw Fleury in there, but the Game 4 mistakes don’t allow for that. Excellent bounce-back game for him tonight though. Maybe the sports psychologist is having an effect?

  209. scapper says:

Um…excuse me…that’s “The Great” Joe Vitale.

  210. The Pens have just won what is hopefully the decisive game in this playoffs series 3-1, and they’d better wrap it up in Columbus on Monday night unless they want to become a laughingstock.

  211. cobra39 says:

A win is a win. We’ll take it.

Ollie Matta is one cool cucumber. He’s going to be a very, very good D-man.

  212. Bizrow says:

Crosby and Malkin I don’t think scored a goal

    Hidden vigorish

  213. Jandy says:

    I stand corrected!!

    :D

  214. Jandy says:

    Barely…

  215. Mirosurabu says:

I missed the first ~30 minutes of the game, but the Pens I saw looked nothing at all like the Pens from the last game.

I could have sworn the top line for the entire third period was Crosby, Malkin, and …

  216. Jandy says:

    indeed

  217. Richard says:

What are all you complainers going to moan about? What didn’t Fluery do right? No songs about Bylsma?

  218. Eric Bowser says:

    Lines were
    Kunitz – Crosby – Malkin
    Jokinen – Sutter – Neal
Then a whole bunch of combinations
    Bennett – Vitale – Stempniak
    Glass – Goc – Adams

  219. Eric Bowser says:

Tonight didn’t change my opinion about Dan Bylsma.

It took him 4 games to have to make a statement about his team’s lack of passion.

  220. Mirosurabu says:

Aha, so I have not yet started hallucinating…thanks.

  221. Karen22 says:

    Just WHEW!! :)

Great day for Pittsburgh sports. Do it again…MONDAY!!

  222. Well, the Pens needed this one if only to save their dignity and self respect since they’re definitely better than Columbus.

  223. scapper says:

I love you, whoever you are.

  224. scapper says:

I meant that for Richard’s comment. But hey, I might disagree with your take on the Pens, Eric, but you are obviously one of the world’s good guys. Easy to tell from your body of posts.

Here’s one we agree on: LET’S GO PENS! LET’S GO PENS! LET’S GO PENS!

  225. Florida Steeler says:

Why the same people come on here night after night and complain about the officiating defies any logic. If it is bad, it is bad both ways, if it is not consistent, it is not consistent both ways.
Officiating has neither won nor lost a game for either team.

  226. Richard says:

I don’t think Dan’s sitting around worried about your opinion of him. “Gee I hope Eric has changed his mind about me.”

  227. And now, let’s hope that the Pirates and the Pens will both stay awake since they’ll both be facing tough opposition in the future.

  228. JohninOshkosh says:

Agree. Eric is a spectacularly good poster. Blog Hall of Famer. In the old days before twitter exploded, he would live blog the games. Great stuff.

I, too, disagree with his position on Bylsma. Have forever. But, I always read his posts!

  229. BillyBaduka says:

    +

  230. JohninOshkosh says:

I’m sure glad the Wild signed Matt Cooke. Now, he can sit and count his money while not playing in the games for which he was specifically signed to be playing in.

All because of yet another ridiculous cheap shot.

    Leopard. Spots.

  231. Andrew says:

I am going to quasi-defend Cooke why 7 games for a knee on knee but Seabrook gets 3 for a head shot?

  232. JohninOshkosh says:

    Yeah, I question that too.

Guess it goes to disciplinary history.

I thought Cooke deserved what he got, though, and I’m a Wild fan.

  233. Andrew says:

I gave up trying to understand suspension lengths.

Your sentiment is similar to Pens fans when Neal has been suspended, basically he deserved it.
