    FIRST !!!

    LET’S GOOOOO PENZ !!! ;)

If they lose tonight, their punishment would be to be locked in a room with Donald Sterling, and Miley Cyrus.

  2. Lad 9 says:

(Shivering) whoa…Plan That is a horrible punishment. Maybe if they lose game seven….. :)

Hey, with those two together, could we film it and call it the the Jerk and Twerk show?

Anyhow, LETS GO PENS. Zip up the Jackets early tonight!

  3. theplanisworking says:

Plenty of people would qualify for Jerk and Twerk show! ;)

Team needs 60 minutes of effort tonight, nothing less.
Or, they just need to play like New Castle basketball.
That would result in a big win.

    :D

  4. Lad 9 says:

+1 You got that right my friend

  5. 39 DAYS UNTIL GREGORY POLANCO IS CONSIDERED “READY” TO BE BROUGHT UP TO BIG CLUB

    {because NOW is not nearly as important as 6 seasons from NOW}

  6. Brandie says:

    SCIRE DANG IT!!!!!!

  7. Thundercrack says:

I don’t know them that well but I would guess more than a couple of Penguins wouldn’t mind being in a locked room with Miley Cyrus. They may not care for Donald Sterling being in there with them.

  8. Pucknutz says:

    LETS GO PENS!!!!

    I don’t always agree w/Plan ( :) )but….60 min of solid effort nothing less
Geno and Sid need to scrire, scire. scire………

  9. Karen22 says:

    OUCH!! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  10. Karen22 says:

    Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee shoots and SCIRES!! :)

  11. Karen22 says:

    LET’S END THIS THING!!

    SHOOT THE PUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. JohninOshkosh says:

Kathryn Tappen on one side of the desk. Mike Milbury on the other side.

    The Sacred and the Profane.

  13. Rbilak says:

    1. Can Pens with series w/o a goal fom 71 & 87? Is that good or bad?

    2. Was wrong about a MAF meltdown after first goal, good sign.

    3. Still they did not start well in 1st and two bad penalties.

    4. Johnson said expect MAF to be hit tonight, glad Bortuzzo is playing again. Pens undefeated when he plays. Lol

    5. Actually rooting they play Flyers next. That will be fun.

    6. POwer Play must score, PK must kill, key to game tonight. 5-5 Pens doing well.

  14. Brandie says:

Theft would need to do a whole lot of reinventing to exorcise that Philly Demon.

  15. Brandie says:

    C’mon Baby…

    Light my SCIRE!

  16. BillyBaduka says:

    Nice

  17. Pucknutz says:

    Bortuzzo – like!

  18. Pucknutz says:

    GENO — at last !!!!

  19. Brandie says:

    MALKIN!!!!! HOT DANG!!!!!!

  20. Barb says:

    GENO SCIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  21. JohninOshkosh says:

Nice work by the Pens before Geno’s goal.

  22. Pucknutz says:

    Indeed

  23. Brandie says:

    MALKIN MAKING A STATEMENT!!!

What is Russian for ETCH IT???!!!

  24. hockeymonster says:

That’s what left lane haamma down looks like. Btw

    Need to stay focused.

  25. Brandie says:

    BEAUX-DAY-SHUS!!!!!

  26. Andrew says:

    The dreaded two goal lead.

  27. hockeymonster says:

    Let’s get 3

  28. Pucknutz says:

    шероховатый [шерохова́тый] {adj.}

  29. JohninOshkosh says:

Plus, the dreaded (in this series), first goal of the game.

  30. Sarah says:

    Oy Adams….bailed out by MAF!

  31. Andrew says:

And leading after one, Bylsma must have skipped the scouting report.

  32. Milo Hamilton says:

Shots the last 3 periods – Pens 52 CBJ 22.

  33. Sarah says:

    Who are those guys??

  34. Gene-Zo says:

According to Steigerwald, it was an uncharacteristic mistake by Adams . . . Oy Vey!

  35. Brandie says:

    They not theft.

  36. Barb says:

    I don’t know but I like ‘em.

  37. JohninOshkosh says:

    Marlene Dietrich ?

  38. Rbilak says:

Yeah normally it results in a goal scored.

  39. GAWTS2009 says:

    Keep it up!

  40. tcb says:

They are who we hoped they were.

  41. Pucknutz says:

    LOL Brandie ….
Did a quick Google… have nooo idea … but it looked cool!
We need Buggee to confirm ! :)

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one too.

  43. Pucknutz says:

    Yes

  44. Milo Hamilton says:

That was JD’s boo boo face.

  45. Rbilak says:

    Great first period.

    Martin Letang stay together

Sutter MVP series, never saw that coming.

Bortuzzo must stay in line up

    MAF looking good.

    Columbus taking Penguin-like penalties.

  46. Sarah says:

    New York, New York……

  47. Barb says:

Okay who scored the 3rd goal?

  48. JohninOshkosh says:

That’ll teach me for leaving media to get dinner fixed for my kids.

  49. Brandie says:

Or The Sacred and The Inane…or Insane?

  50. Brandie says:

Can’t believe Jandy is not around.

  51. Milo Hamilton says:

When 58 is skating like this it is a thing of beauty.

  52. Brandie says:

    Brandon Sutter…Smooth like Butter!

  53. Brandie says:

    Well said Migh-lough!

  54. DJ says:

Here is everybody who wanted to trade Sutter for Kesler?

    Let me at ‘em.

  55. Barb says:

    Thanks Brandecita.

  56. casper in a-town says:

Good evening, all. This is how blue liners are supposed to play. Total control by our previously maligned defensemen. Say what you want about Bylsma, but whatever he’s done and said has, to this point and in this game, worked.

  57. DJ says:

We all have Sid and Geno to thank for suggesting they be linemates.

    Excellent bit of coaching.

  58. Barb says:

And Marcel Goc has proved to be the medicine this team needed.

  59. DJ says:

    *Where is . . .

  60. DJ says:

Every time I see Scuds on the side wall in the D-zone I get nervous.

    Hal Gill-esque speed . . . maybe slower.

  61. Rbilak says:

Anyone else notice in playoffs hitting from behind is never called? Ridiculous. Someone is going to get killed.

  62. Brandie says:

    GREAT GOC A-MIGHTY!!!

    Been waiting to use that!

  63. Andrew says:

Gill is slower but he hits people, so that is his excuse for being out of position.

  64. Milo Hamilton says:

    Sutter to the locker room.

  65. Brandie says:

MALKIN WITH THE HAT TRICK!!!! :)

  66. Brandie says:

    Hope it’s just a bruise.

  67. Barb says:

    +++++++++++++++

  68. Milo Hamilton says:

This looks like that 7th game in Washington in 2009.

  69. GAWTS2009 says:

Hey we that wanted him traded sparked his rise!

  70. Pucknutz says:

I threw my hat at the TV…… that count ? :)

  71. GAWTS2009 says:

    Dreaded 4-0 lead

  72. Barb says:

Now we need Sid to start scoring.

  73. Lad 9 says:

    GEEEEEEEEEEE-NOOOOOOOOOOO!

  74. DJ says:

Thought you wanted him to “bake” (broil, roast) in the minors until 2015.

  75. Milo Hamilton says:

I guess that’s one way to get on the scoresheet.

  76. TJA says:

Maybe Hurdle has the Pirates watching to see what this thing called…scoring….is all about!

  77. Milo Hamilton says:

Should have been a penalty shot there.

  78. DJ says:

    GAWTS, GAWTS . . . GAWTS.

Don’t tell me you were part of that clan.

  79. DJ says:

A vivid image of Hal skating in the crease BEHIND Fleury in the Cup Final so he could get to his proper position.

Took a “shortest distance between Points A and B” approach, appreciative of his speed limitation.

  80. Brandie says:

    LAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDD NIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEE!

  81. Jandy says:

While you’re at it, I’ll have one too!!!!

  82. Brandie says:

Good one Justice. Flow is what happens when you stop pressing!

  83. Jandy says:

    woop wooop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  84. Brandie says:

    Yes…yes it does!

  85. Jandy says:

Hubby had me typing up at rather large bid for a local college….watching and working at the same time. I must say, these guys all showed up tonight :)

  86. Jandy says:

    POTD!

  87. Jandy says:

    Raawwwrrrr!!!!

  88. GAWTS2009 says:

Can’t lie, I was thinking it may have been the right move. But did not and I repeat did not want to give up nearly what I heard floating about

  89. Just got home from prayer. Have we a route here?

  90. Jandy says:

    Ewwwwww!!!

  91. Jandy says:

    Cruel and unusual punishment YIKES!

  92. DJ says:

Yes, a route and a rout.

A route to a rout on Root.

  93. Jandy says:

YES! And hats off to Geno!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  94. Jandy says:

I’m fine with Sid not scoring as long as he’s drawing the Jackets to him so Geno can score. He’s playing good defense.

  95. JohninOshkosh says:

Clint would have Geno bunt instead of taking the shot. :)

  96. Never claimed to be an English major.

    ;)

  97. DJ says:

Crazy return going the other way . . . at least what was reported.

Pouliot was immediate deal-killer for me.

  98. Jandy says:

    hey hey it’s casper :)

  99. Andrew says:

I was referring to now, I appreciate everything Gill did with the Pens, just like I appreciate Scuderi multiple saves in the Cup Final, but did you see the Flyers Sunday, Gill was bad is way it would be hard for Scuderi to match.

  100. It looks at this point as if the Pens are going to wrap this series up, with Geno coming through like he has tonight. And then, it’ll be time to worry about who they face in round 2, although we all know the next opponent will be tougher than Columbus.

  101. JohninOshkosh says:

Now, if the Mild win, my dream of a Minn/PGH final stays alive for another night.

  102. DJ says:

    Ha!

And thanks for the prayer for Geno.

  103. Andrew says:

    Anything on Sutter?

  104. DJ says:

    Worry? Why worry?

    Enjoy!

  105. Eric Bowser says:

Welcome to the playoffs boys (Crosby and Malkin).

Didn’t like stick to Sutter on the PK, now he’s hurt. It didn’t look good.

Fleury on top of his game again. It won’t get much press but he’s been really good tonight.

    Crosby 0 shots… but he’s more involved.

20 more minutes like the last 40.

    Let’s Go Pens…

  106. Jandy says:

    Go Mild!

  107. Jandy says:

    Bahahaha!

  108. Milo Hamilton says:

Think it was Foligno that got Sutter.

  109. DJ says:

Of course you were, but that image of Hal is indelibly locked in my brain. Fleury felt the bump from behind and had a “WTF?!” look on his face.

Did see that play by Hal. Time passes, but apparently not the willingness to sign 50 year-old D-men.

  110. Brandie says:

Gotta leave it all on the ice. Even Craig Adams is on top of his game.

  111. Jandy says:

why does that NOT surprise me?

  112. Jandy says:

    Give ‘em hell Geno!

  113. Sarah says:

Yeah wish we had more promising young guys on D in the pipeline, else we wouldn’t need to sign retreads….oh wait….

  114. Milo Hamilton says:

The apples didn’t fall far from the tree with both brothers.

  115. Jandy says:

Indeed. Reminds me of the Schenn thugs from Philly…

  116. Milo Hamilton says:

James Wisniewski to the box to ponder his -8 this series.

  117. casper in a-town says:

In the flesh, Jandy! Thought I’d chime in tonight, given the stellar blue line play. This is the first game in ages where I haven’t cursed at at least one defenseman. This is Penguins ice hockey.

  118. Brandie says:

My two stars thus far…Geno and Marc-Andre! So many could claim the title of Third Star tonight.

  119. Jandy says:

    crap!

  120. Wild Bill says:

Or to generate offense for Columbus.

  121. Jandy says:

    and that is a blessing!

  122. Brandie says:

    Witty, Witty!

  123. Jandy says:

My dog is resting much easier tonight ;)

Good to see you, friend :)

  124. Jandy says:

    well, if you insist :P

  125. GAWTS2009 says:

That’s what ended my hopes too

  126. Jandy says:

    do I hear 5?

  127. casper in a-town says:

Thanks much! Work has had me traveling the contiguous 48, but I’ve got some down time the next few weeks so you may see a few posts from the friendly ghost as we advance in these Lord Stanley Cup Playoffs!

  128. Jandy says:

Great! More support for our team!

  129. Jandy says:

Ok whatever triggered the penalty box parade for the Pens, shut it down….quick!

  130. Brandie says:

Do not like the penalty to Paul Martin…not sad about Dubinsky going down though.

  131. Jandy says:

    GrrRrrr!!!!

  132. Brandie says:

    Amen to that.

  133. GAWTS2009 says:

And things just got interesting and not in a good way

  134. Jandy says:

I don’t like the darn PP goal GrrRr!

  135. DJ says:

    Missing Sutter on PK.

  136. Andrew says:

Special Teams has kept Jackets in the series, and now this game.

  137. Jandy says:

    Big time

  138. Eric Bowser says:

Pens got cocky on PP, quit and now it is 4-3…. that’s unacceptable.

  139. JohninOshkosh says:

    Holy crap.

  140. DJ says:

They lose this and Dan may be fired at the Starbucks in Nationwide Arena.

    Boys have to rally .

  141. Milo Hamilton says:

It’s hard to turn it back on after you’ve turned it off.

  142. casper in a-town says:

I guess I should go back out on the road. I rear my ugly head and this happens!

  143. cobra39 says:

If I hadn’t seen the way Letang is playing, I wouldn’t believe it. Arrogant beyond belief.

  144. Jandy says:

    I’m gonna be sick.

  145. Jandy says:

    Really?

  146. Jay says:

I’ve said this on this site several times this year – it’s this club’s M.O and achilles heel. No killer instinct to absolutely bury a team when they have them by the throat. They get a lead then relax and the offense absolutely goes away. Instead of foot on the gas when it’s 4-0 and getting it to 5-0, 6-0 they go into a prevent, take offensive pucks and just dump them in the zone and retreat back on D. Awful

  147. Purple Moose says:

Does Crosby even speak to his teammates during the game?

  148. Florida Steeler says:

What is up with Martin and Letang?? Good grief, and Fleury has panic in his eyes.

  149. Jandy says:

It’s not you, casper, trust me.

  150. Milo Hamilton says:

Just when you start feeling good about them again …

  151. cobra39 says:

Yes really. The guy is a worse defensive liability than Paul Coffey with a broken jaw. And he doesn’t seem to care.

  152. Purple Moose says:

    Guess it should end 4-3

  153. JohninOshkosh says:

    No penalties. Clearly a hold.

  154. JohninOshkosh says:

Sorry, DJ. Was supposed to stand alone.

  155. GAWTS2009 says:

    Sutter back!

  156. Jandy says:

your climb out of the woodwork when things go bad…where were you all game rooting this team on?

  157. hockeymonster says:

    4-3

  158. cobra39 says:

I was rooting the team on with my bar mates. Just got home.

  159. JohninOshkosh says:

    Whew!!!

    I need a belt.

  160. Jandy says:

    whew!

  161. BillyBaduka says:

    That’s nice to see.

  162. Lad 9 says:

    Survive and advance! Whew….

  163. Jandy says:

    :thwap:

  164. Milo Hamilton says:

    Pens win the series 4-0-2.

  165. J Walter Weatherman says:

Great googly moogly. I guess we have to give CBJ credit for not giving up. But man, all the criticism’s about the Pens just won’t go away, even in a win. No lead is safe with this team.

    Moving on!!

  166. Eric Bowser says:

    Fleury won that series.

  167. Barb says:

Finally on the right side of the 4-3 score.

  168. theplanisworking says:

    Internet out all night. :(

Listened to the Pens take a 4-0 lead.
Stopped listening for a late dinner, 4-3?? What the ……

Now, listening again, game over, Pens advance!
(By the skin of their ……. wings).

Now, let us see the Rags, not the Philthys.
But, Lvndqvist scares me. A hot goalie can steal a series. Henrik can certainly do that, but at least the Pens made it to another round.

  169. Lad 9 says:

Must be a helluva an HD screen to see that in his eyes.

  170. Jandy says:

    ahh my bad…apologies…

  171. Brandie says:

    You said it Lad!

  172. cobra39 says:

    True dat! Nerves of steel!!

  173. theplanisworking says:

    +++++++++++

  174. theplanisworking says:

    Well I surely didnt. ;)

  175. theplanisworking says:

    Yes, indeed.

  176. Jandy says:

My internet has been slow and wacky this evening…frustrating!
I’d rather have King Henrik than the Filthy Flyers.

  177. cobra39 says:

You never need to apologize. This site is practically your home. I’m just a visitor.

  178. Brandie says:

Good to see you Planny Ainge. Needed a defibrillator for that game.

  179. Jandy says:

    YES!

  180. Wild Bill says:

Pens should work on little else but responsibilities of the forwards in the defensive zone as they get ready for the next series.

  181. Sarah says:

The way I feel after watching this, I have to remind myself they won.
    Good lord.
They make a win feel like a loss….what an unacceptable let down.

  182. Brandie says:

Either way, time to rid ourselves of the second round demons. I know, I know…one game at a time. ;)

  183. Jandy says:

    +++++

  184. Lad 9 says:

I’ll take it, Miss BRANDIEEEEEEE! (I owed you one). Way to go Pens!

  185. theplanisworking says:

Brandissima, my legs couldn’t get me the length of the court anymore. But thanks for the shoutout!

(PS — always disliked Ainge. Punk extrordinaire.)

  186. Jandy says:

Nah, I remember you a bit better now…you’re not a fly by….apology is definitely in order, Cobra.

  187. Brandie says:

    Good observation Untamed William.

  188. theplanisworking says:

If the Pens advance against the rags, Lvndqvist will not allow many goals…….. so they have to PROTECT ANY LEAD THEY GET !!!!

  189. Wild Bill says:

In the same class as B. Clarke.

  190. J Walter Weatherman says:

I do have to say this – the Pens played incredibly well for 2.5 periods. If they can harness that and build on it, there’s no ceiling for this team.

It was that SH goal, when they were obviously just out for a leisurely skate on the PP, that turned the tide. Somehow, some way, they need to figure out how to not let up their intensity. It’s the playoffs, and the Pens have enough playoff veterans to know that you never take your foot off the gas in a playoff game.

  191. DJ says:

Everyone hates him but a guy like Dubinsky on the Pens would work wonders.

  192. The Pens almost blew it in the 3rd period, but they made it to round 2 all right. And now, hopefully, Sutter and Vitale will be okay for the next round, since they’ll likely need them against either the Rangers or the Flyers, and the Rangers will try to wrap it up tomorrow night. Goodnight all.

  193. Jandy says:

Matt Cooke went to the Wild…we had one…and let him go…

  194. theplanisworking says:

Well, Clarke was an agitator who would stand up to you.
Ainge was an agitator who would hide, except for rare occasions. Both had the class of a rock.

  195. tcb says:

A tip of the hat to CBJ. They never quit. Got to love the Stanley Cup playoffs – Win and Advance.

  196. Bizrow says:

    A win is a win which = a win

    Whew.

    Two more injuries tonight though

  197. Sarah says:

And Rupp and Asham and Talbot and….

  198. Jandy says:

Did I see Sutter come back out?

  199. Sarah says:

How does Bennett wind up with only 11 mins TOI? when not 1 but 2 Fs are injured? Just what is going on ?

  200. Sarah says:

    Yeah for the handshake….

  201. DJ says:

    I don’t equate the two.

I’d take him on Pens in a heartbeat.

  202. Jay says:

They’ve played this way all year JWW. I can’t think they’ll suddenly get better at it

  203. Wild Bill says:

    Gotta say it – I hope Flyers/Rangers goes 7.

  204. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, and me Cooke are both watching one of the most important Wild games in history of the franchise on TV. Except he his sitting in his Edina McMansion.

    Awful signing.

  205. Wild Bill says:

Interesting, Plan. I mostly remember him hiding behind Schultz, DuPont, Saleski and others after spearing somebody.

  206. theplanisworking says:

I hope it goes 8 games, and there is an all-out brawl to end it. ;)

  207. Wild Bill says:

Sarah, we won – have a beer!

  208. Dom says:

The city of Columbus is a class act.

They cheered their team up to the last seconds and continue well after the clock strikes zero.

I expected to hear a loud sigh at the end but their fans just kept on cheering.

  209. Jandy says:

    Have 2 or 3 :)

  210. Wild Bill says:

True Dom, but only after they scored the shorty. It was quiet as a tomb the whole third period before that. But they did rise up.

  211. Jandy says:

well, 4am comes too quickly…night Loonies!

  212. That wine will help you nod off quickly.

    :P

  213. Wild Bill says:

    Snore well, Jandy!

  214. Dom says:

Not me. We have no chance against the flyers. Hopefully, the rangers finish them off tomorrow.

Yeah, Sarah, but we need one in his prime to drop on a line.

    Dubinsky is 27.

Ya Dom, good thing for hockey in Columbus…
Played the mighty Pens quite well…. gotta be some good vibes spilling over for next year.
Nice to see the excitement of the fans for an up and coming team….not as jaded as we are, (snark intended :) )

  217. chethejet1 says:

Pens win, now onto the real playoffs where the good teams are. Unless the Pens find a level that they haven’t been since December, this should be the exit series for the most arrogant coach on hockey after Hitchcock.

How do you think he lost all his teeth?
    (later his marbles)……………

    :D

  219. scapper says:

    Glad you’re enjoying the win.

Hopefully, they’ll hire a coach who can go 16-0 every spring. Sure has been an awful last five years of Penguins hockey.

  220. Daquido_Bazzini says:

I really felt like the Pens made a statement in the 3rd period on Saturday, and the first 2 1/2 periods tonight.
    But then…..The roof caved in.
I just can’t imagine them lasting long when the competition stiffens.
Of course….It would help if Crosby ever showed up.
