  2. scapper says:

Supposed to go to tonight’s and tomorrow’s games. Crazy rain predicted through tomorrow night. Cold as hell for late April, too. Drat. Guess who’s not headed to Baltimore tonight. Be shocked if they play, but maybe they’ll catch a break between the massive patches of rain coming through.

I’m like a little kid. Pick out the DC, Philly and (some years) the Baltimore games as soon as the schedule comes out and spend months anticipating the games. Did I say, “DRAT!”?

(I can hear the blogmaster’s thoughts: “That’s what you get for leaving Pittsburgh, pal!”)

  3. NMR says:

Nothin’ better than a day/night double header, Scrapper. Hopefully you get lucky!

  4. scapper says:

You know…that might just be the ticket. Take a day off Thursday…unleash the rain!

  5. Chuck H says:

If there is a game tonight, hopefully, the Bucs can get some runs for Charlie Morton to start a 10 game winning streak.
I also hope for the Brewers to go on a 10 game losing streak. Not a big deal, right?

  6. scapper says:

“Hope is a good thing, Red, maybe the best of things.”

  7. The Gunner says:

Let’s hope Morton can keep the ball on the ground tonight!

  8. bpn8pitt says:

Not sure about that weather, but id like to see this Tillman pitch.

  9. cobra39 says:

I live in Northern Virginia and had these two games in Baltimore circled — until I saw the weather.

Hopefully a different weather front when the Bucs come to DC.

  10. bpn8pitt says:

Jeez, he was in the Bedard trade TOO…talk about a heist.

  11. NMR says:

Legit mid-rotation starter. Only guy left in that group of pitchers supposed to dominate (Tillman, Matusz, Hunter – I think).

  12. NMR says:

    And in the strike zone!

I’d love to see somebody study how well walks correlate with temperature.

  13. JohninOshkosh says:

Didn’t the Bucs play at Baltimore not too long ago ?

Was it two years ago or ten years ago ? These years are starting to blend together.

  14. NMR says:

Definitely last year, maybe. They got swept, I remember that much.

  15. 21sthebest says:

    Wrong ahead broom head! 2012!

  16. 21sthebest says:

    change “ahead” to “again.”

    Geez.

  17. NMR says:

Do I get any points for still thinking it was 2013? ;)

  18. JohninOshkosh says:

I remember Wilson Betemit (sp ?) had a good series.

I think he sold me my Nikes this past weekend at the mall.

  19. NMR says:

Pretty sure that dude was Pirate Bloggers flavor of the week for Bucs 2014 First Baseman sometime around February.

  20. NMR says:

Can’t wait to see Hurdle’s American League lineup. Anybody see surprises? Snider/Tabby as DH or Gaby?

  21. NMR says:

Nevermind, Pirates site has the game already postponed.

  22. toochca says:

    Harrison!! hahaha

  23. 21sthebest says:

Fine with me but I’m not sure who’s in charge of giving out points.

  24. JohninOshkosh says:

    Hey NMR:

I respect your opinion on the numbers. I get the whole wins are a bad stat line of reasoning but why are Brian Kenny and his ilk so down on simple batting averages ? I get that it doesn’t reflect on base etc, but why should it not be considered among many other stats as a indicator of how a ballplayer is performing ?

  25. scapper says:

Two Junes ago and about 5 years ago.

  26. toochca says:

You answered your own question when you mentioned Brian Kenny!!

  27. The Pirates game was rained out tonight, and the game will be made up on Thursday, and I’m glad that now we can concentrate on the Stanley Cup playoff game between the Rangers and the Flyers tonight and not on how badly the Bucs have been playing lately.

  28. Thundercrack says:

    No game tonight.

    Let’s talk about Polanco!

  29. bpn8pitt says:

The Jimmy Fallon/Robinson Cano skit is tremendous if you haven’t seen it.

  30. Milo Hamilton says:

Penn State back in the soup.

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10858666/james-franklin-contacted-alleged-rape-victim-vanderbilt-commodores

My favorite line in the story was – Franklin, when reached by phone on Tuesday, repeatedly said he was “not interested in talking.”

    Gee, that’s a first.

  31. Bizrow says:

    This could get ugly

    Well, uglier

  32. bpn8pitt says:

Yea, heard about that on the ride home. Thanks for link.

See how it goes. At first glance, yikes. Hopefully its nothing but, still shouldn’t be dismissed.

  33. bpn8pitt says:

The lineup I heard on radio before ppd was Gaby DH, Tabby leadoff with Marte batting 7th.

  34. JohninOshkosh says:

Have fun talking to recruits parents during your self-appointed quest of out recruiting Pitt.

  35. Your percentage just went down again.

  36. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s Robbie Cano, don’t cha know!

  37. Allie a double and his 17th RBI already tonight.

Maybe he should be promoted to AAA.

    ;)

  38. JohninOshkosh says:

Someone’s playing baseball somewhere, Lucky ?

Seems like it’s raining in every state. We have rain until Sunday. My poor basement.

  39. In Erie, believe it or not. Surprised it’s not snowing there.

And Kannapolis, NC. WV already lost game 1 there today.

Bradenton hasn’t been postponed yet, either. They started their game.

  40. Milo Hamilton says:

The Kannapolis Intimidators retired Dale Earnhardt’s #3 in 2002.

  41. I just heard that Jaromir Jagr will be back playing for the Jersey Devils for another season.

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

Lauren Hart is the Flyers only redeeming quality.

  43. bpn8pitt says:

Pirates play at Yanks in a few weeks.

Hope Dejan and the gang get their fill of the Big Apple soon.

    Draft too.

  44. Sounds like something they’d do in NC. They probably think that’s NASCAR instead of baseball.

  45. Milo Hamilton says:

    He owned the team.

  46. Adam Frazier, the little shortstop from Miss. St. from last season’s draft may be our shortstop of the future. High A now, while JaCoby Jones, the kid from LSU, could be a candidate, too, but he’s at Low A.

Alen Hanson is at AA this season, but everyone says he projects as a 2nd baseman, which leads one to believe he may be trade bait with PRNW still pretty young.

  47. scapper says:

Great news. Said it before, but just watching that guy play hockey makes me as happy as anything in sports. I’m not talking about his game as much as just his Jagr-ness. We should all enjoy our jobs 1/10th as much as he does.

  48. scapper says:

Woohooo! Going to Saturday’s 4:00 game that series. Haven’t been to the new stadium yet.

  49. theplanisworking says:

I understand that there is great excitement about Mr. ‘He who shall not be named’ coming to Pittsburgh from Indy.

Let us hope he does not meet a similar fate as one PRNW……….. who was punished in Indy for not running out an infield fly rule popup years ago. That has to be one of the most baffling things I have ever heard of, and I have heard of some pretty baffling things in my lifetime.

Hopefully Neil has learned from that incident, and Mr. ‘He who shall not be named’ won’t be punished for forgetting to tie his shoes correctly?

I am still sticking to June 20th, as a potential call-up date.
It is against the Cubs, on the road. Pretty safe.

Other possible dates include June 9th, at home against the Cubs, June 13th at Miami.

  50. Cobra39 says:

You’re not me. How dare you!

  51. Milo Hamilton says:

PRNW – Super 2. Funny thing about irony, it’s just so darned ironic.

  52. bpn8pitt says:

Its $$$. But so is everything in Gotham.

  53. bpn8pitt says:

    Heard good things about JaCoby.

I know Henson booted 40 balls in ’12? But as I also understand he’s a decent stick and like u said, could play 2nd.

Interesting what this team decides to do with Neil down the road.

But in the interim SS has no immediate answers.

  54. Pucknutz says:

Flyers up 2-0 in the second.
Really grates on me to root for the Flyers…. but…
Let em beat each other up for another game….
Almost wanna see the Flyers next …. maybe I have moved to the dark side…more hate for them than the Rangers.LOL
Ya I know they have the Pens number but the wailing and gnashing of teeth may be fun!
Then again sitting around and poking my eye with a sharp stick may be fun … hmmm
    Heck … its the Cup…pain is inevitable…

  55. At least for 2 or 3 years, you’re right.

  56. bpn8pitt says:

Greg Brown ran down a bunch of names from Cutch to Alvarez ECT. All of them were June/July callups. Whatever the reason, they are consistent and give the guy ABs at AAA.

Honestly, I’m fine with them waiting. There’s no way in hell he’s hitting .400 with an OPS over 1.000 against ML pitching. He will face adversity and have to make adjustments. And the same people hollering for his promotion, will be fingering the FO that he wasn’t ready when he struggles.

Heck, they would have to get rid of someone to make room for him, and although I know they aren’t exactly stacked, it would be a poor use of assets to DFA anyone not named Josh Harrison, at least in the interim.

  57. Bizrow says:

There are rumors that JaCoby Jones might be the PTBNL in the Ike trade

  58. Pucknutz says:

    Simmonds.. hat trick.. 4-0 flyers.
I think I am really sick … I cheered that goal..
    Professional help needed???? :)

  59. Bizrow says:

From what I’ve read, he’s a heck of an athelete, just needs to keep his head on straight and find a place to play

  60. Andrew says:

I honestly think the Flyers are not that good, the defensive corp is slow and cannot move the puck, their entire game is take and draw penalties and get the game to special teams. Coming into tonight, they had 3 5v5 goals and 11 against, worst team in the playoffs even strength, and they were -6 even strength during the season.

  61. Pucknutz says:

    Exactly correct Andrew…
That is their game… Pens know that but they seem to go brain dead and take the retaliation penalty.
Get the Pens playing special teams either way… mess up the 5 on 5 flow… negates the superior talent.
Pens should crush the Flyers, but as we have seen…..

  62. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

How disappointed I was to find that the game was postponed.

    Nothing to ridicule tonight.

  63. theplanisworking says:

Flyers get in the Pens heads.
We all know the Flyers are a clearly inferior team across the board, but because the Pens play an undisciplines style, and have anger/maturity issues, the Flyers EASILY get the Pens off their game, and win.

I would rather take my chances with the Rags, and hope Lvndqvist doesn’t get hot.

  64. Chuck H says:

All this talk about bringing up Polanco is iffy. What if he turns out to be another Alverez, Marte. Tabata, or Lambo who can’t hit ML pitching? Everyone was clamoring for those Indy players to be brought up and as you know now, they were wrong. They murdered minor league pitching but can’t hit in big time. This season is not going very well for the Buccos
to date, so let’s just call it a so-so season, and hope for the best. GO, STEELERS!!!

  65. JohninOshkosh says:

Throwing in the towel on the season on 4-29 ? Still a couple of weeks until Mother’s Day ! Sakes alive, Charles! LOL.

  66. Brandie says:

There is help for this. Just put some French Fries on a sandwich, eat it, say 15 “Hail Jandy’s” and all will be forgiven.

  67. Chuck H says:

I was talking about bringing up Polanco would maybe change the season or not!!

  68. bpn8pitt says:

All I know is, he’s not going to come up here and continue on that kind of tear.

Some of these guys like to point out that Alvarez and Marte will eventually rebound. If that’s true, then it has to work both ways.

Not to knock Polanco because I think he will be a stud. But id like to see who exactly he’s hit against, and if they have any pedigree.

  69. Pucknutz says:

15 ! Wow am I gettin off light. LOL
Sister Mary Mean woulda had me written “Never Ever cheer for the Flyers” 500 times on the chalkboard while dodging spitballs !!

  70. Chuck H says:

I’m sure a big majority of minor league pitchers are fair to good, and if they are better than good, they will get a shot at the majors. Polanco’s average at Indy is way better than average, so maybe he should be given a try with the Pirates, and the futility of their offense demands that this should happen as soon as possible. They need a good lead-off hitter, and Polanco might be just the ticket.
