Comments

  1. Dom says:

Hopefully Pierre Desir and/or Martavis Bryant will be available when we’re up like they were last time except this time we won’t pass on them.

  2. Arriba Wilver says:

I have it on good authority that Bryant is Limas Sweed II. I hope they pass (pun intended).

  3. 21sthebest says:

    These picks suck!

    Just practicing folks.

  4. TCB says:

Keith McGill (db) or Abbredaris (wr) would be interesting to me.

  5. Dom says:

    What makes you say that?

  6. Dom says:

They were saying that the Steelers would be a good fit for Michael Sam. Although personnel wise that’s true, he wouldn’t fit well for a 3-4 defense. He’s only 260 lbs and ran a 4.92 in the 40. Too light to be a DE and too slow to be an OLB.

  7. Arriba Wilver says:

He’s a physical specimen (big and fast), but not a “football player.”

    Bad hands, bad routes, etc.

  8. Arriba Wilver says:

    They are usually wrong.

  9. Dom says:

    Bryant to Pittsburgh.

I wish they would have gone CB but I’ll take it.

  10. Milo Hamilton says:

OK, I had Bryant last night. Does that count for anything ?

  11. Steelag70 says:

Milo…just shows that you picked for value…

  12. Milo Hamilton says:

    McShay says it’s a great pick. That’s worrisome. :)

  13. Steelag70 says:

Apparently he slipped due to maturity issues…

  14. Dom says:

Maybe I’d be interested in nabbing him with our last pick if he’s around as there’s a lot of talent there but he clearly belongs in a 4-3 defense.

  15. Steelag70 says:

Dom…would you rather they reach for a CB? They obviously like what they have and will add later…

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

I really liked Jordan Matthews from Vandy. Oh well, I don’t hate the Archer pick so much anymore.

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

    See?

    You watch—Limas Sweed . . .

At least they didn’t take him higher.

  18. Steelag70 says:

After consideration, I was ok with the Archer pick..especially the run on RB’s…he can also play WR…sick speed and I think they will use him just enough to avoid wear and tear…

  19. Good call Dom and Milo.

  20. Haven’t we heard that one before?

  21. Milo Hamilton says:

I hear the Steelers aren’t going to let him play until the 6th game of the season because he needs to learn his angles.

  22. Steelag70 says:

Steeler WR’s right now: AB, Wheaton, Moore, DHB, Moye, Bryant and with Archer playing some there…

  23. Dom says:

I wouldn’t feel the bests corners on the board are reaches.

  24. Steelag70 says:

Apparently the Steelers do right now…

  25. Dom says:

How could they like what they have? They have one credible starter that’s injury prone, another who on his last legs, a nickel back and a free agent nobody else wanted. Desir would not have been a reach.

  26. Dom says:

Yes. That’s what I disagree with.

  27. Steelag70 says:

Dom…only going by what I read this morning and listening to LeBeau last night…

  28. Thundercrack says:

As long as he doesn’t need to learn how to catch. :-)

  29. Milo Hamilton says:

The Steelers have 2 picks in the 5th & 2 picks in the 6th so they have the ability to move up.

I think Landry Jones stinks. Thought so the day they picked him. Nearly ran over my foot with the mower when I heard they drafted him. There are guys available that I’m confident would beat him out for a roster spot today. Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron & a guy I really like – David Fales from San Jose St.. They probably won’t do it, but I really like Fales.

  30. Steelag70 says:

Well Dom, they get paid to make those decisions and they know better than we do what they want and like in their players….

  31. Steelag70 says:

Coach Mann said that Bryant could challenge Wheaton for a starting spot this season…

  32. Or how to hold his mouth.

  33. JohninOshkosh says:

I’m just waiting for Mel Kiper’s final grades to formulate an opinion.

  34. ++++++++++++

Hard to imagine Ben staying on the field all 16 games again. I’d welcome it, but we need somebody better than a clipboard genius at number 3 (or even #2).

  35. Milo Hamilton says:

    Tom Savage goes to Houston.

  36. Steelag70 says:

    Savage to Houston…

  37. Milo Hamilton says:

This is the highest a Pitt QB has been taken since Dan Marino. Now that I’m sufficiently depressed, I’m going to start drinking early.

  38. Steelag70 says:

    McCarron to the ratbirds…

  39. Dom says:

That doesn’t mean they do it well. Just look at their past few drafts.

  40. Milo Hamilton says:

Since the merger, top three quarterback win totals in Browns playoff history:

    1) Bernie Kosar 3
    2) Vinny Testaverde 1
    3) Johnny Manziel 0

  41. Dom says:

CB Luchiez Purifoy is my new guy I hope the Steelers draft.

  42. Milo Hamilton says:

    Lou Thesz Purifoy !

  43. JohninOshkosh says:

Not many Badgers or Panthers went in the draft. And all but Donald went late.

  44. Steelag70 says:

And there is the CB…Shaq Richardson from AZ…..

  45. theplanisworking says:

So nice to see the Steelers address their needs in the later rounds. I guess the alarm clock finally went off.

For anyone who says the Steelers “got younger and faster” in the first rounds of this draft, WELL DUH!!!!!! The players drafted are younger and faster !!!!

I simply am left scratching my head at this Steeler draft. In my unknowledgeable opinion, they blew it. Now we just have to hope for the best. I mean, really hope.

  46. Steelag70 says:

I don’t think they blew it Plan….they got a terrific playmaker in Shazier…Truitt will do well in the DE spot…Archer is a weapon that they will use to their advantage…Bryant was great value in the 4th….Richardson is a Carnell Lake guy….let’s face it. The Steelers know more about what they have and what they want than we do…

  47. theplanisworking says:

    I like Pruitt.
    Shazier won’t contribute for years.
Archer will be broken in half in preseason.
The last 2 picks I don’t know much about.

Of course the Steelers know more about this than we do. I would certainly hope so…………. but the past 4-5 years, the busts have far outweighed the good.

I just hope for the best.
    We will need it.

  48. Dom says:

OT Wesley Johnson plays a lot of oline positions. Just like what the Steelers like.

  49. Steelag70 says:

I think Shazier will be able to contribute immediately in some capacity on that defense…as for this whole Archer being broken in half just consider this…was Tavon Austin broken in preseason? Ace Sanders?? Those guys are both 170 lb players…I don’t buy it that he will be injury prone. Speed factor can also keep a defender from going for that kill shot..if you are the last guy between Archer and the endzone and you miss while trying to break him in half, well he’s gone…

  50. hockeymonster says:

Could the weather be any crappier? :(

Isn’t there another round of free agency coming around this summer? Do the Stillers have cap space to sign a veteran CB and safety depth? Seems to me like they did ok solidifying front 7 and bringing in a target for ben. If they can add a CB or 2 and depth later i can see a decent season. Still surprised they didn’t cut keisel last season to make room for Lewis. That 40 time for RB they drafted is insane. Hopefully he can return punts n kicks.

  51. Wild Bill says:

One of my favorite guys, John Urschel, taken by the Crows. I think I’m gonna barf.

  52. JohninOshkosh says:

Packers draft WR Jarod Abbrederis out of Wisconsin. First time in Ted Thompson’s 10 year tenure as Packers GM that Green Bay has drafted a Badger.

  53. Wild Bill says:

    Really? Seems odd.

  54. JohninOshkosh says:

Ha! Bill, you can’t control your kids once they grow up and leave the house!

  55. Thundercrack says:

They don’t know what their doing either

  56. 21sthebest says:

    Nobody does.

  57. Wild Bill says:

Urschel is too smart for the Crows. He’ll make Harbaugh nervous.

  58. Steelag70 says:

They said he will be a return man and will be playing RB and WR on offense…

  59. Steelag70 says:

    Jordan Zumwalt from UCLA…solid pick….

  60. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m waiting to hear what Mel says. Then I’ll decide.

    Some seem underwhelmed so far.

  61. Arriba Wilver says:

I think Milo wanted a Jordan.

  62. Steelag70 says:

Not me….I like what they have done.

  63. Arriba Wilver says:

I know. It was a joke.

    ;-)

It’s certainly an interesting draft. The media decided the biggest “needs” were cornerback and wide receiver. Some then think if they don’t address those 2 “needs” in the first 3 rounds it’s a bust. But, everybody knows we’re all just navel gazing at this point. One thing we can all agree on is that hopefully they do well. (Right, James?)

  64. Steelag70 says:

Well said Arriba…I completely agree. Interesting thing about Archer…20+ reps on the bench at the combine….I wouldn’t worry about him being broken in half…

  65. Thundercrack says:

So taking ‘hope’ out of the equation , how do you think the Steelers did with this draft? How would you rate the draft

    1. Excellent
    2. Good
    3. Disappointing
    4. Terrible

Those are your only 4 choices. (You can’t say we need to wait x# of years or you hope they got it right). GO!

  66. JohninOshkosh says:

    2. Good (and surprising, but I give them benefit of the doubt).

  67. Steelag70 says:

I vote for #2 as well.

  68. Dom says:

    NT Daniel McCUllers.

Excellent pick. I saw mocks that had him going in the second. 6-7 and more than 350 lbs. Great size.

  69. Dom says:

That’s now the 13th LBer taken in the Tomlin era. None past round 2 has worked out. Why bother drafting so many?

  70. Dom says:

CB Marcus Robinson is who I want for the next pick. I’ve seen mocks that had him going much earlier.

  71. Dom says:

NFL.com notes him as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

  72. theplanisworking says:

I humbly vote #3, but hope it is #1 eventually.

  73. Steelag70 says:

    Blanchflower…TE…

  74. Steelag70 says:

NFL Network guys (Charles Davis, Daniel Jeremiah, Mike Mayock) gave the Steelers high marks for their draft with Daniel Jeremiah’s fav pick being Dri Archer. He said Archer could be a Pro Bowl returner THIS season……

  75. Dom says:

Looks to be a special teams pick. Will be a 24 year old rookie.

  76. Dom says:

I doubt Michael Sam will get picked.

I guess teams were reluctant to nab him.

    One would think he’s worth a 7th if not a 5th or 6th.

  77. Thundercrack says:

I have you down as Disappointed.

Hope was taken out of the equation. I think every Steeler fan hopes it turns out good

  78. Dom says:

    #2, more like a 2.5 though.

  79. Arriba Wilver says:

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but don’t the Steelers’ drafts usually get high marks from the talking heads?

  80. Dom says:

Sam goes #249 to the Rams.

  81. 21sthebest says:

What’s the deadline on this poll? I’m hoping for 2018.

  82. Arriba Wilver says:

That’s the year Shazier might contribute.

    ;-)

  83. tcb says:

1.5 for me. Better than good but not excellent.

  84. Dom says:

By then we all would have forgotten about this poll…

  85. Steelag70 says:

We don’t know about Sean Spence and Vince Williams yet…but you need LB’s when you run a 3-4 defense…

  86. Daquido_Bazzini says:

I’m ok with the Steeler draft except for the 3rd Round Archer pick.
That should have been the best CB on the board.
Otherwise….Some good early and late round picks especially on defense.
I think they need to go pick up a CB in a trade or if one gets released.
There’s no way they can expect much from what they have.
They need to add someone else into the mix.
