DK, thanks for being On Location… need your perspective on this current team and their worst start in 8 years. Counting on you, as always, to provide the perspecting that no one else can, and does… want to hear from the players, coaches, the vendor with the moustache behind home plate…. what does Ray S have planned to right the starting pitching, which has definitely been the impetus for the slow start?

  2. cmat0829 says:

Personally I was hoping to see a change, any sort of change, just to cleanse the pallet…. For my two cents, I just have to see Pedro in another spot in the order… he is not doing the job of protecting Cutch in the lineup.

pretty clear that Travis Snider does not enjoy the confidence of Clint Hurdle… and I wholeheartedly agree. why not just DFA him?

  3. Stuart says:

Steven Drew Signed a one-year with the Red Sox.

    Which Juan Dee pitches tonight?

Can we score enough runs to win?

    Stuart

  4. cmat0829 says:

    1. Headline should read “Stephen Drew loses $4M by turning down Qualifying Offer”.
    2. The good Wandy, but may not matter against the O’s offense
    3. Yes, I have a hunch the Bucs win tonight… make mine 9-5. (Cue Dolly Parton)

  5. JohninOshkosh says:

Jeff Samardzija can not buy a win.

  6. Brandie says:

These questions will be answered on the next episode of Soap.

  7. Lad 9 says:

I wonder how much money that Scott Boras has cost the Drew family by withholding their services on multiple occasions? Sorry, he would not be my agent of choice were I a player.

  8. Lad 9 says:

    BRANDIEEEEEEEEEE!. How are you Muppet?

  9. JohninOshkosh says:

Hahaha. Parents wouldn’t let me watch that show. Brother and I would sneak down to basement to watch it on black & white TV.

    Stone age.

  10. 21sthebest says:

If a player picks him to be their agent, I think they get what they deserve.

  11. Brandie says:

    LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDD NIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Been busy at work and taking care of some personal issues. I am ok. Got mountains to climb and promises to keep…..

  12. Brandie says:

    Benson was my hero!!!!!

  13. Lad 9 says:

Cool. Maybe see ya later tonight on this thread after I get home…..

  14. Patrick(ri) says:

As I posted yesterday, why not flip Cutch & Pedro? At least we might find out if Pedro can still hit the fastball.

  15. chethejet1 says:

Look for Cubs to trade him for a “Pirate” fire sale. Yankees, Sox, Giants, Angels, Rangers among the bidders if he is finally put on the market. Bucco’s,not so much. I see Ethel kennedy is haviong a bridge in DC named after her. One would think after 8 children it would have been a tunnel.

  16. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

Mine, too. I actually have the series on DVD. A lot of the acting was terrible, but it was hard to tell if that was at least semi-intentional or not, and it was funny.

“You want me to get that?”

    Hilarious.

  18. AJS says:

Too young to have seen it when it was on my wife and i watched it on netflix because my wife is named after one of the characters. We had to stop once the giy was abducted. Stopped being funny and started being weird.

  19. JohninOshkosh says:

    1979 Pittsburgh Pirates.

My favorite sports team from any sport.

  20. Bizrow says:

    60 Bucs

    79 a close second

  21. Thundercrack says:

ROOT Sports are the biggest bunch of dopes. Do you think you can show the players and not the people in the stands?

  22. bpn8pitt says:

    1991.

    Younger crowd.

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

    Omar Moreno!!!

  24. JohninOshkosh says:

Sorry, not a reply. Just an excited post!

  25. JohninOshkosh says:

    +

  26. Brandie says:

    Exactly Areebz!

  27. JohninOshkosh says:

Listening to this at work on computer. So, I know broadcast is delayed but would just note:

I’m not a fan of him generally, but Greg Brown does an outstanding job emceeing these sort of things.

  28. JohninOshkosh says:

Not much chatter. Nicer weather, I guess. At least here anyway.

  29. Baywatch says:

I guess it’s a pretty fruitful question to ask: “How long do we put up with suckage,” after many of us did it for 20-plus years. Fair weather friends we AIN’T!

  30. bpn8pitt says:

The only good thing about Russell Martin’s injury is that we got an extended look at Tony Sanchez’s sub par defense. Better to find out now than 2015.

  31. JohninOshkosh says:

Until the dirt bath, my friend.

  32. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Here’s to hoping Wandy doesn’t leave any grapefruits up there

  33. Rock Ain't Dead says:

So a one hop throw to the cutoff man from short right field from Jay Hay is considered “textbook” by Brown and Blass?

Yea, let’s give him #21 from now on.

Nice job Wandy. Got out of the first…

  34. Brandie says:

    Fire him!!!!!

  35. bpn8pitt says:

He got out of that inning…but got away with a few.

  36. Baywatch says:

    Up here, John!

  37. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Because he one hoped one to the SS side of the bag?

Didn’t see the jump the runner had did you?

  38. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

At least one to Davis there. Jones hit a good pitch.

  39. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

The set up, not so much the throw.

  40. Florida Steeler says:

Brown and Blass just babble, babble and more babble. Switched to Gary Thorne with O’s–he is excellent.

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

    *slap*

  42. bpn8pitt says:

Yea, seemed like everyone hit the ball hard…Ive felt that way about him and Volquez. They aren’t fooling anybody. Luckily some well hit balls have been hit at some one one, or hung up enough to get caught on the track…scary, bro.

  43. bpn8pitt says:

Nice. Wish Cutch could teach that to Alvarez and others.

    Take it the other way.

  44. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    See which Wandy shows up

  45. Thundercrack says:

Poor Pedro. Gets a hit with runner in scoring position…but doesn’t get the RBI

  46. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Not a bad way to start.

Hope Wandy doesn’t let them back in it

  47. bpn8pitt says:

So that’s what an XBH with 2 runners on looks like…

  48. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Does Ike Davis hit the ball hard? Dude gets some serious seeing eye singles.

Not complaining mind you, a hits a hit and that’s an RBI

  49. Arriba Wilver says:

You haven’t been watching, Ryan. Wayyyyy more than that one play.

  50. 16 DAYS UNTIL GREGORY POLANCO IS ALL OF A SUDDEN “READY” TO PUT ON A PIRATE UNIFORM

    {because NOW is not nearly as important as 6 seasons from NOW}

  51. Arriba Wilver says:

What’s he saying about 4-0 Pirates?

  52. Andrew says:

If Tony Sanchez and Josh Harrison are drawing walks, you need to pull the pitcher, or maybe visit the mound.

  53. Arriba Wilver says:

    Shhhhh

  54. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Zero issues with that offensive inning.

Theoretically, the Pirates shouldn’t have to put up anymore runs, but pretty confident they will against Tillman.

  55. bpn8pitt says:

Thought Tillman was better than this. Curveball not on tonight it seems.

  56. Florida Steeler says:

He loves McCutcheon–says Pedro has to get it going to support Cutch. If Pirates fall behind by double digits–it could spell trouble. For some reason, he likes the Bucs.

  57. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    You’re right, I haven’t been…..

  58. bpn8pitt says:

15 DAYS UNTIL TRAVIS SNIDER IS DFA.

  59. JohninOshkosh says:

Was once the savior to be in the Orioles organization.

    #Prospectlove

  60. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Ha!

    Oh boy

  61. Baywatch says:

Boy, Omar’s granddaughter sure is a cutie … and when we focus on things like that during the game, it’s like WHACK, you know you’re set up for a homer by Cruz!

  62. Andrew says:

Yeah, keep him in there we are going to need some more runs.

  63. JohninOshkosh says:

Him and Jones, among others, came over from Seattle in the Bedard trade.

What a classic clunker of a move from the Mariners organization.

  64. bpn8pitt says:

    Call the bullpen, Dejan….Please.

  65. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that Steve Blass gets to critique pitchers’ control?

  66. bpn8pitt says:

    Lol…I saw that a week ago…For Bedard.

  67. Florida Steeler says:

He is so hard to listen to and pair him with Brown, and it becomes impossible.

  68. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I don’t mind Blass that much.

  69. Arriba Wilver says:

Disagree with Blass. Pedro had a good shot at getting the guy at first.

  70. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    More than some around here

  71. Andrew says:

    He knows the subject area.

  72. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Really? What view did you have?

  73. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Should be Sanchez’s ball

  74. Barb says:

With this pitching staff no lead is safe. Agggggggggggh!

  75. Arriba Wilver says:

    Ridiculous.

  76. Arriba Wilver says:

On Root. Even Blass backed off after he saw the replay.

How about you? What view did you have?

  77. radio wave says:

    The predictable Wandy implosion.

  78. Thundercrack says:

I am beginning to dislike Wandy.

‘Hate’ is a bit too strong

  79. bpn8pitt says:

    Batting practice.

  80. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Shut it down here Wandy…..

    Then pack your bags

  81. Patrick(ri) says:

Good thing Wandy is having a lousy inning. Otherwise, there would be nothing to complain about, and what fun is that?

  82. Wild Bill says:

Wandy makes a pretty good BP pitcher against AL teams.

  83. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Pizza in my kitchen….didn’t see the other angle.

Even if he couldn’t throw the dude out, he should have thrown it to 1st.

  84. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

And my kids little league team

  85. Barb says:

OMG still not out of the inning yet. How embarrassing with the ’79 Pirates in the park. Maybe they can show him a thing or three.

  86. Arriba Wilver says:

Yep, no way he gets Hardy at Third.

  87. Thundercrack says:

How can nobody be warming up until now!!!??

  88. JohninOshkosh says:

Go ahead and go to the airport, members of the 79 team.

No need to watch this team. You guys had more fight in your batboy than this entire team together has shown thus far.

  89. Arriba Wilver says:

Even Blass and Brown are getting depressed. That’s how bad this inning has been.

  90. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Unreal.

Seriously, good pitch by Wandy there.

  91. Arriba Wilver says:

    Agree.

  92. Rock Ain't Dead says:

Wandy is having a “Calgon take me away” moment out there.

    What a nightmare.

  93. Patrick(ri) says:

    +++

  94. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Wow…..talk about kicking a man when he’s down.

  95. Barb says:

That’s it I’m done. I can’t watch this debacle. Good Lord.

  96. Rock Ain't Dead says:

Josh Harrison may have to pitch tonight.

  97. Arriba Wilver says:

6-4 Orioles in the second. Unbelievable.

  98. Wild Bill says:

Bad luck on top of bad pitching.

  99. bpn8pitt says:

I had to see that to believe it.

  100. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    You didn’t see the Pirates 1st at-bats?

    They’ll get these runs back

  101. Patrick(ri) says:

Indeed. I am not sure why you take him out now?

  102. Thundercrack says:

By the end of this game I feel like we’ll be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the ’79 Champs

  103. Patrick(ri) says:

Gonna give em till the Daily Show. Then compare the laughs.

  104. Steelag70 says:

Who would have thought that as good as the pitching was last year it would be 360 degrees in the opposite direction this year…unreal.

  105. Steelag70 says:

    Shootout….

  106. Patrick(ri) says:

    Oxygen for Josh.

  107. Cmat0829 says:

Wandy needs to go. Either to bullpen, DFA or DL. I won’t accept anything less.

  108. Cmat0829 says:

    Keep the faith

  109. Andrew says:

    Prophetic.

  110. Baywatch says:

Do Greg & Steve still have options?

  111. Thundercrack says:

We might need some innings from Mazzaro. If not, Liriano & Wandy will have blown up our bullpen leading into the weekend

  112. Barb... says:

I did – actually I heard it. In the kitchen being domesticate. :)

  113. Cmat0829 says:

    Or a haircut

  114. Barb... says:

    That should be domestic.

  115. Baywatch says:

    You’re very gracious!

  116. Arriba Wilver says:

And bad defense. At least the hitting is working tonight, and the Orioles don’t look any better.

  117. Andrew says:

But what a way to go out.

  118. Arriba Wilver says:

    +++

  119. Arriba Wilver says:

    Jordy . . .

  120. Cmat0829 says:

They can use up Mazaro and send down both he and Hughes if need be.

  121. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    All is well!!!

    Beautiful bunt there by Marte.

  122. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Brought a run in….fine by me

  123. bpn8pitt says:

He was swinging a nice bat there for awhile, but he’s got a long way to go.

The worst part is there are no internal options on the way. Hanson has 13 errors for the Curve already. To me he’s not SS.

  124. Arriba Wilver says:

Good to see Omar and Phil.

  125. bpn8pitt says:

Agree. Surprised Scrap Iron has never got another pro job.

  126. Baywatch says:

I’d like to know why Candy Man & Jim Bibby couldn’t be there.

  127. bpn8pitt says:

Can’t argue with that Blass…The Lumber was brought tonite.

  128. Thundercrack says:

    Is Bibby still alive?

  129. Thundercrack says:

I’ll be switching to Modern Family soon

  130. What the heck? Three innings, 8-6?

I see Wandy was on tonight.

On a bus to the CL hopefully.

    How did he look?

  131. Thundercrack says:

A few years ago Garner was in MLB XM pretty often. To me it sounded like he got just a tad looney. Just a little out there.
Plus I felt the game passed him a little…and he only wanted to go to a contender.

  132. Barb... says:

    No Bibby died in 2010.

  133. Barb... says:

    Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

  134. 21sthebest says:

    Passes away in 2010.

  135. 21sthebest says:

Ha. I was going to say looney tunes. Heard a local interview he gave when we were looking for Russell’s replacement.

  136. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

One thing that seems to get overlooked about Tony Sanchez is his ability to block a ball in the dirt.

Fundamentals are tremendous….obviously needs to work on the throws.

  137. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    A la Jim Leyland

  138. Steelag70 says:

    Nice job Vinnie….

  139. bpn8pitt says:

I’m going to ask this question tommorow on the blog.

Do you really “blame” the Pirates for Wandy? Weren’t they kinda stuck with him, because of that player option? Had it been a team option, given the injury, they probably would have declined. Brought him back for a lower rate? Or had more to offer AJ, whatever?…Just a thought.

  140. bpn8pitt says:

I actually think he sucks at it. Too much movement. I never see Molina chase balls like that. I could be wrong.

    NMR mentions it a lot.

  141. The Gunner says:

He stunk, Lucky. He’s gotta go, but he’ll probably take his next turn.

  142. TJA says:

Just got home and turned on the TV….
    … Am I seeing and reading this score correctly…in the 4th inning? I also am reading everyone’s .posts…I guess I am… Wow…

  143. Now Gunner, only 1 earned run. Keeps his ERA under 7.

    ;)

  144. 21sthebest says:

Tabs, that might’ve been the worst at bat in baseball history.

  145. Andrew says:

    Wow was that awful.

  146. The Gunner says:

That is why he will take his next turn, my friend

  147. Hopefully in Indy on rehab.

  148. If Wilson is on, they should let him pitch at least 3 innings. I said that the other night and we blew that game.

  149. chethejet1 says:

Pirates knew he had a option for 2014 and had the Astros pay 5.5 million if Wandy exercised it. He did and I am sure the Pirates were hoping against hope he would be a good three starter this year. I was hoping that as well. Pitching is a risk and Wandy just doesn’t have the stuff right now and may never have it. I believe the bucs need him to either throw on the side or give him an option to make a couple of starts in Altoona. If no change, then waive him and free up the roster spot.

  150. The Gunner says:

I’m afraid it will be as a member of our Pittsburgh Pirates.

  151. Only 8 pitches for Wilson so far. He could go 3 with these free-swingers. As long as some of those swings don’t end up in the river. Better yet, let him finish it and save the pen.

  152. Ghost says:

I see that Mazz was quite the fireman today. In a season of a lot bad breaks with our pitching staff, boy, did we catch a lucky one by getting Mazzaro back.

  153. Thundercrack says:

I wonder if that was one of the last ‘player options’ that was included in a contract

  154. hockeymonster says:

Just want to remind everyone that Team USA’s “brain” trust took Blake Wheeler to sochi instead of Saad…and now back to our regularly scheduled programming. :)

  155. Ghost says:

    Uhthankyaverymuch, Mr. LuckNKentucky Rain!

  156. Milo Hamilton says:

Holy Toledo, are they making fun of me ?

  157. 21sthebest says:

Jack Wilson will be the Pirates representative at the draft next month.

  158. Andrew says:

I’ve no faith in Morris here.

  159. Rock Ain't Dead says:

Morris stinks so bad. Can’t miss a bat. How in the world did they like him over Vin?

  160. The Czar says:

Anyone interested in tickets for tomorrow night’s game?
I have four seats in Sect. 125. Row A. Seats 7,8,9,10.
I live a couple hours away and can’t make the drive to Pittsburgh for the game.

  161. Thundercrack says:

No truth to the rumor that Wilson will only do it if he can bring Freddie Sanchez

  162. The Gunner says:

Who is making fun of you? Brown & Blass??

  163. Thundercrack says:

As NMR likes to say ‘Morris just doesn’t have a swing & miss pitch’

I think that’s who says it

  164. Reading says:

No! Ex-Pirate on deck! Granny time, no doubt!!

  165. Rock Ain't Dead says:

    Pearce…. Lordy

  166. Reading says:

    Can we lift 29 now?

  167. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

At blocking the plate? You’re nuts

  168. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Prime opportunity for Steve Pearce

  169. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Thats key for a RP

  170. Reading says:

    Nice gun by Jay Hay.

  171. Thundercrack says:

Josh Harrison: keeping Polanco down on the farm

    :-)

  172. hockeymonster says:

Is it my imagination or does Pearce haunt us every season?

  173. Reading says:

    Finicky.

  174. Jandy says:

    You’re right

  175. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Way too long for those BP phones to start now

  176. Rock Ain't Dead says:

Now that was a great throw by Jay Hay. Can we pitch him?

  177. Andrew says:

Byran Morris, has made 76 relief appearances, faced over 350 batters and has a K%-BB% of 4%, that ranks 201st of 204.

He cannot miss bats, Machado should be embarrassed.

  178. Jandy says:

Hey hey Revvie…hope the meeting didn’t put you to sleep ;)

  179. Jandy says:

    Careful what you wish for…

  180. hockeymonster says:

I wonder if kopitar, toews and keith are out of gas yet?

  181. Reading says:

Mercer not helping the cause tonight.

  182. Jandy says:

Somehow I doubt it. And Kings just tied the game lol

  183. Jandy says:

    2 minutes for Saad…bad boy

  184. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I’m trying to think of things on this planet that are MORE USELESS than Jordy Mercer.
    Suggestions…..

  185. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Tony Sanchez has some different manorisms, that’s for sure.

Seems to be ok with the bat.

  186. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Travis Snider

  187. Reading says:

    And the rally fizzl

  188. Baywatch says:

    Montana!!

  189. Jandy says:

    PLAYOFFS!!!

  190. Jandy says:

Scratch that…they just took the lead

  191. bpn8pitt says:

Hey! Your boy Wandy went MAF tonight.

  192. Andrew says:

    I going with Snider too.

  193. Baywatch says:

I checked with Robby on the field, who checked with Machado. Robby said Manny said he’s thoroughly embarrased.

  194. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Off the top of my head I can think of three things:
    The human appendix
    Smallpox
    The second assist in hockey

  195. hockeymonster says:

That immobile doughty can still skate too.

  196. Jandy says:

    Indeed!

  197. Patrick(ri) says:

How did I miss this one. Great line!

  198. chethejet1 says:

Toronto would have thrown in the first pick of the leafs to move Snyder. He may be the worst scouting report since Matt Morris for the Bucs. What a plug.

  199. Jandy says:

    Just wow. 4-2 Kings

  200. Jandy says:

    Who is this Toffoli kid?

  201. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Bobby Hill

  202. Steelag70 says:

    Watson is a beast…

  203. Reading says:

    Whoops. Need to cover second.

  204. hockeymonster says:

    Draft pick

  205. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Nobody on the Pirates!!!!!!

  206. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

He was there… GB made that a little more dramatic than what it was

  207. Jandy says:

    Amazing!

  208. Jandy says:

Lol.hubby turned on the hockey game..said it’s much better to watch than the Bucs….I couldn’ t disagree…

  209. Wild Bill says:

Watson slammed the door really well there.

  210. Jandy says:

    Haha 5-2 Kings

  211. Jandy says:

    Empty net…6-2

  212. The 2-hour drive each way just about did.

  213. Jim S. says:

    No complaints here.

  214. Wild Bill says:

That was a very helpful umpire.

  215. Steelag70 says:

    Raise it!!

  216. Lad 9 says:

Raise it! Melancon razor sharp to close it and Pirates overcome another bad start. Time to end that trend.

  217. Jandy says:

    Well that sucks!

  218. hockeymonster says:

    ;)

  219. Jim S. says:

I’m thinking that, NorCal. But, he’s whiffing at over 35% of the time and drawing walks less than 2% of the time. Seems to be starting to square the ball up a bit in the last week or so, which is good to see.

  220. Jandy says:

    woop woop!

  221. Lad 9 says:

Acquiring him and the other clowns was one of my bottom 10 Pirate fan moments. You made me shudder, Playoffs.

  222. Jim S. says:

Even the wins don’t really feel much like wins to me. They feel like we managed to survive.

I bet we had about 70 wins last year where we took control of the game early and held it all night. A lot of clean victories last year.

This year, I bet we don’t have 3 wins like that.

  223. radio wave says:

    Talk about winning ugly.

  224. Andrew says:

    Well said.

  225. Thundercrack says:

    Bryan Morris got the win!?

He’ll try to use it against the club in arbitration.

  226. That’s one situation that I agree, wins and losses don’t mean anything. He deserved a win about as much as I did.

Mazzaro or Watson would have been more deserving. Mazzaro probably would have gotten it if they hadn’t tied it.

  227. Jim S. says:

It would not surprise me if Wandy managed to get it back together … next year. It has happened before. But, he cannot be allowed to take the mound again for this team this year. He just can’t. Not with guys like Cumpton pitching their hearts out every 5 days. Cumpton pitched well in several starts for the Bucs last year, and all he has done is get better in every way this year. He has to be inserted into the rotation 5 days from now.

Volquez can’t be far behind, either. He has to be on a short leash. Another bad start from him and I’d be looking to Locke, Sadler, anyone really.

  228. Jim S. says:

Wandy did not get a loss AND Morris got a win. If that doesn’t prove how unimportant the Win stat is for pitchers many nights, I don’t know what would.

  229. Andrew says:

Root is always on the story, Machado is a darn good ballplayer, Morris not so much.

  230. Worley for Volquez.

  231. bpn8pitt says:

    I’m with ya.

Outings like that crush your bullpen down the road.

  232. Jim S. says:

Yet, he keeps coming in at high leverage times.

  233. Jim S. says:

    Andrew says it also.

  234. Truly, Jim, it wouldn’t be inconceivable to have Sadler, Cumpton and Locke all in the rotation sometime this season. Can’t be a lot worse. Team them with Cole and Charlie or Lirano.

  235. Somehow, the Bucs won tonight and they certainly needed this one. And, hopefully, they don’t bury themselves any deeper since they have a more favorable schedule next month.

  236. Jim S. says:

Good call, Lucky. I forgot about Worley.

Also, I wish they had traded Morris for Ike if that was a possibility.

  237. bpn8pitt says:

Hurdle just dodged ‘Wandy making his next start?’ question.

  238. Jim S. says:

To me, Wandy has to go right now. I would be ok if Volquez was sent to the pen as well. But, maybe he gets one more chance. Liriano has a longer leash, but he’s the next most ineffective pitcher to me. Charlie has had some frustrating innings, but I actually think he has been pretty good a lot of nights. Cole has not progressed like I had hoped, but he’s still 23 and pitching pretty well.

Cumpton, Locke, Worley, Sadler. Let’s get to it, Clint and Neal.

  239. Andrew says:

I think the old Volquez, not the pitch to contact guy the Pirates made him, might be useful in the bullpen. The Pirates could use a right hander who can get a strikeout.

  240. Jim S. says:

    How so, bpn?

  241. +++++++++++++++++++++

  242. Baywatch says:

    LOL!

  243. Andrew says:

    From Sawchik:

Will Wandy Rodriguez make next start? Hurdle: ‘I’m not going to go there right now. .. I’m worn out.’

  244. Jim S. says:

Last summer, I asked how important a World Series victory was to each of us. We all wanted them to win, of course. But, my question was, would you accept stinking again for a long time in exchange for one World Series championship? Or, would you rather have a perennially good team that never broke through to win it all?

There’s really no right or wrong. It’s just personal preference. But, I said at the time that I did not want to go back to stinking, and I would prefer not winning it all to reliving the 20 years again. I believe most people said one World Series victory would be worth more losing.

Well, this season is exactly what I meant. I know we didn’t win the World Series last year, but I don’t think I’d be feeling much better right now if we had won it all last year.

  245. Jim S. says:

I’m guessing Clint has seen enough.

  246. cmat0829 says:

I hope so. I dont think I’d read that into it… but the fact that he is not fully a ‘yes, he will make his next start’ means he/Ray/Neal have talked about it and maybe they are ready to make the move… please, clint, please….

  247. Andrew says:

I don’t see how you can let him start again, when you are in a hole, the first thing is to stop digging. Allowing Wandy to start again is just digging deeper, as you guys said above there are options. Move Wandy to the pen, he has been okayish his first turn through the order, and there are some worthless pitchers taking up spots in the pen.

  248. Jim S. says:

I believe TC said last week that it is only money that has kept him in the rotation this long – and I had the same opinion.

But, now that has to be out the window. He absolutely has to go now.

  249. Jim S. says:

    +++

  250. Andrew says:

I’d argue that it is not so much money, I think it is more a sustained track record of back of the rotation inning eater. I think the rehab could have been handled differently, but now there is just no time to see if he’ll figure it out, the Pirates need every margin.

  251. Jim S. says:

    Yep. They do, indeed.

  252. I would like to see the manager do some managing like Harrison 3rd, tony sanchez Ist base martin rt field, cuch lead off walker clean up just to shake things up. After two months of his line sucks.
