  1. Milo Hamilton says:

    Google = un-American. Shame.

  2. T.S. says:

    What’s un-American about it?

  3. No doodle for Memorial Day.

  4. Carlos Danger says:

That is odd. I wonder why they wouldn’t do anything for it. They have doodles for birthdays of people I have never heard of.

  5. Gene-Zo says:

Maybe honoring war dead isn’t PC?

  6. Lad 9 says:

Hoping this is the start of an extended major league stay for young Mr. Cumpton. Let’s go Bucs!

Happy Memorial Day to all the Lunatics! Lest we forget….

  7. Carlos Danger says:

Thanks for posting the lineups Lad. Saves me the trouble of googling it. Although after the Memorial Day snub, I might start using bing.

  8. Carlos Danger says:

Has the “player to be named later” from the Ike Davis trade been named yet? Wasn’t sure if I missed it. Is there a timeline for that?

  9. pattonbb says:

“If we were to commemorate this holiday, we’d want to express reverence; however, as Google’s special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design. We wouldn’t want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way.”

  10. Brandie says:

    Thanks for the lineups man.

  11. Arriba Wilver says:

I’ve seen speculation it is Jacoby Jones, a third round pick in last year’s draft, but don’t think that’s definitive.

  12. Lad 9 says:

No problem. My pleasure. And BRANDIEEEEEEEEE!!!

  13. Lad 9 says:

Took the words from my keyboard AW, and I really hope it isn’t Jones. But it would look a lot better now with how Ike is playing at least.

  14. Brandie says:

  15. Arriba Wilver says:

As long as it’s not the top 2 picks, I’m going to grin and bear it. ;-)

  16. Agree on that. He is hitting around .260 right now and learning the SS position well. Although Ike has been a good pickup and will be here for a couple years, hate to see good prospects go.

  17. Bizrow says:

Supposedly, we should know after the upcoming draft, as someone drafted last year can’t be officially traded till then.

  18. Andrew says:

If anyone hasn’t seen it,Vin Mazzaro was DFA’d to make room for Cumpton. Pirates now have two open 40 man roster spots.

  19. Arriba Wilver says:

Hmmmm. They really think he might get passed on again? Or is there something in the rules that since they dfa’d him before he can’t be added to the 40 man to be protected?

  20. Carlos Danger says:

He should stick to being a receiver for the ravens ;).

  21. Lad 9 says:

The PBC must think a lot more of Lurch than I do….. I would have kept Vin.

  22. twentytwo22 says:

Goggle, ignoring it altogether is disrespectful.

  23. Arriba Wilver says:

My bad, it is spelled JaCoby Jones.

  24. Carlos Danger says:

Very much in agreement. Maybe his persona would work if he were a dominant pitcher. Otherwise the act wears thin. A little embarrassed of/for him. But then again he makes a lot more than me, so maybe I should sit on my couch quietly.

  25. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

That move doesn’t make sense to me either over Lurch.

  26. Carlos Danger says:

Either way. Reminds me of this.

  27. Bizrow says:

I think they had to DFA him because he is out of options

  28. Carlos Danger says:

Thanks for that, I was curious.

  29. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Since you mentioned it, I decided to look it up.

When did this take place because I haven’t found it anywhere.

  30. Lad 9 says:

He is out of options, but Lurch isn’t.

  31. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Never mind

  32. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Which makes even less sense.

  33. Milo Hamilton says:

I think with Mazarro, they’re gambling that with him unavailable for the next 2 or 3 days that he will pass through like he did the last time. It is a gamble though.

  34. theplanisworking says:

Lad, and Brandie, just wanted to say hello to 2 of my favorite people on here. Wanted to do this today, as I will not be a regular on this blog anymore after the absolute, outright lies said about me a few weeks ago. Proud moment in blog history.

I certainly hope you are doing well. This goes to others who have also wished me good things, such as Wild Bill, Sarah, Reverend Lucky, and Jandy. (Apologies to those I forgot.) Hope everybody is has a great summer season ahead.

Happy Memorial Day to all……. Google be damned.

  35. Brandie says:

Miss Ya Plan. Drop by every once in a while.

  36. Carlos Danger says:

I know nothing of the background, but I have seen your name mentioned quite a few times in nothing but good terms since I have been following. Just FYI. Maybe give it another try? God bless and happy Memorial Day.

  37. Lad 9 says:

Plan, I have missed you. Please take care and consider a return some day. Happy Memorial Day to you. Remember the Canes! Have a Plantastic day!

  38. Bill Born says:

Got to love Met announcers – Keith Hernandez just explained that Ike Davis is doing better in Pittsburgh because they only have one newspaper over there.

  39. Andrew says:

It is odd because of the options. Though if Pimental comes off the DL, which could happen soon, they would need to clear another bullpen spot. Hughes, Morris, and Mazzaro are very similar pitchers, with Hughes and Morris generating more ground balls. None of these guys is anything special and like Milo wrote below, Mazzaro would not be available to pitch for a couple days, so why keep him on.

  40. Reading says:

Since ex-Pirates are always coming through against with unbeforeseen power and clutch hitting, it will be nice to (hopefully) benefit from the ex-Met factor today.

  41. SeanAY says:

    Who lied about what?

  42. Very true. Pitch him 3 innings twice in a week and DFA him. Makes perfect sense.

    Wish I had a head-scratching emoticon.

  43. Carlos Danger says:

Summon their inner Steve Pearce. I like it.

  44. JohninOshkosh says:

Did Keith preface that by saying, “for all you kids out there”, Bill ?

    Only says it about 20x/broadcast.

  45. Cmat0829 says:

    Hernandez is an idiot.

  46. Bill Born says:

    No, hasn’t used it yet-
Has had kind things to say about us so far.
    bases loaded Martin up.

  47. Cmat0829 says:

Be nice to get Compton a lead

  48. Milo Hamilton says:

The hair clashes with the camo.

  49. Cmat0829 says:

Cumpton. How do I turn off autocorrect on iphonr

  50. JohninOshkosh says:

    Not many boos for Ike.

    Good to see.

  51. tdb1977 says:

  52. Cmat0829 says:

Drats. We waste a big scoring opportunity. This pitcher has no command.

  53. Carlos Danger says:

Like wearing a peace sign on on a combat helmet. Wish Martin could have summoned his inner Steve Pearce there.

  54. Reading says:

The bases loaded double play defusing a rally ought to be renamed the “Bucco Twinkill.”

  55. Andrew says:

  56. radio wave says:

Do they lead the league in risp lob?

  57. Patrick(ri) says:

For all the discussion about offense is not the problem, does anyone have data for “bases loaded, less than 2 outs” for this season?

  58. Cmat0829 says:

Hughes though he elevates my blood pressure has been very good at stranding runners this season. With Morris sucking I think they felt they had to keep Hughes. I woulda put Morris on the convenience list to work on command

  59. Florida Steeler says:

Why the heck is Martin batting fifth??

  60. T.S. says:

Google doesn’t owe you or anyone anything. They give away a lot for free as it is. Gmail. Maps. Docs. Analytics. All of their profit is generated from advertising.

  61. tdb1977 says:

Where would you put him and how would you having hitting there?

  62. Parrothead says:

Do the Pirates lead the league in hitting into double plays, or does it just seem that way

  63. Reading says:

    Just a bit outside.

  64. pattonbb says:

    I agree.

  65. Milo Hamilton says:

Cheering Ike Davis is Mets fans giving the big middle finger to their own front office.

  66. Florida Steeler says:

Pedro before Martin–the guy cannot hit.

  67. Cmat0829 says:

I’m sorry. Pedro just sucks throwing the ball. Had no business throwing that if he couldn’t get a grip. He needs about a week off.

  68. Cmat0829 says:

  69. T.S. says:

    Thanks pattonbb. Now go BUCS!

  70. Cmat0829 says:

At least they have Du-da, Du-da.

  71. Milo Hamilton says:

As a matter of fact they do. That one tied them with St. Louis with the league lead with 46.

  72. Patrick(ri) says:

Lol. Live with it. My device insists Polanco is a pepper (pablano).

  73. Cmat0829 says:

Love the way Cumpton pitches. Francisco that is called command.

  74. Florida Steeler says:

……….237, …….211, …..226 the last three years and you laugh??

  75. Good job by Cumpton in the first. Good Wandy replacement 1/9 of the way.

  76. Milo Hamilton says:

That’s 11 errors for Pedro. He’s going to have to pick it up with the home run ball if he wants to go 30 / 30.

  77. Cmat0829 says:

If I keep typing Cumpton I think it will learn his name. Just like the NL will.

  78. He should have the one by the ASB.

  79. Cmat0829 says:

Pedro is the king of lob this year. So yes I laugh.

  80. Parrothead says:

Thanks Milo, I knew we were up there. To be honest it seems like they hot into more than one per game.

  81. Cmat0829 says:

I sense a hot streak is coming. Clear the decks.

  82. Arriba Wilver says:

    Nobody. Well, until today.

  83. Florida Steeler says:

And, there you have it. Martin cannot hit–admit it.

  84. radio wave says:

Nice comeback in bottom of first.

  85. Patrick(ri) says:

Not sure whether Diaz is more dangerous behind the plate or out in the field? With all the opportunities to make bad calls, with few opportunities to challenge, I suppose we are greatest risk with him calling the pitches.

  86. Arriba Wilver says:

They’re paying us back for booing Wright last year.

  87. Cmat0829 says:

140pm edt. Mark it down. Marte WALKS by not swinging at a pitch low and outside.

  88. Looks like it safe to say deGrom won’t be around for the 9th inning. Or maybe the 5th.

  89. Cmat0829 says:

I admit I’d rather have someone else hit 5th but in this lineup on other options. Marte and Pedro have failed there.

  90. Cmat0829 says:

  91. Arriba Wilver says:

I think it’s a lefty- righty thing for later in the game. And, technically, Martin is batting .269 with a .771 OPS, and Pedro is batting .209 with a .666 OPS. But, let’s not let facts get in the way of a good rant. ;-)

  92. Arriba Wilver says:

And . . . chicks love the long ball.

  93. Cmat0829 says:

Why the Hell are the Mets, who need to be building, clogging the roster with the geriatric Abreu. Makes zero sense. Don’t they have young players to give a chance to?

  94. Andrew says:

I think it is a lefty righty, I would put Marte there but that might not be popular.

From 2011-today: Martin .227, Pedro .227, both have been exactly league average hitters.

  95. Cmat0829 says:

    Maybe they’ll take Snider.

  96. Andrew says:

Well the Pirates are getting base runners, so that is a plus.

  97. Thundercrack says:

Regarding Vin Mazzaro , I wonder if they just don’t think that highly of him.

  98. Milo Hamilton says:

If the NFL can legislate how many players can be on either side of the ball on a kickoff, then there’s no reason MLB can’t legislate 2 men on either side of 2nd base at all times.

  99. Florida Steeler says:

67 AB for Martin, compared to 182 for Pedro. The longer Martin plays, the lower the averages will go based upon prior years facts.

  100. scapper says:

Hernandez predicts that in the near future Pittsburgh will get some museums, theaters and paved roads.

  101. Florida Steeler says:

    He is an awful umpire.

  102. scapper says:

I’ll be stealing this line and, of course, giving you no credit. Wonderful.

  103. Arriba Wilver says:

Neal said he was very surprised he passed through waivers last time.

  104. Arriba Wilver says:

    Interesting concept.

  105. Cmat0829 says:

Calling it now. Ike is gonna go yard right here right now.

  106. JohninOshkosh says:

Ha! Maybe even a public library!

  107. Cmat0829 says:

    Um. No.

  108. Patrick(ri) says:

Just caught an Ike interview snippet where he said a big difference in playing in Pittsburgh, is that he doesn’t get batting tips when getting his morning coffee. “Not ready to think about my batting stance” at that hour. It is clear Ike does’t read this Blog!

  109. radio wave says:

This guy is beatable and Bucs are keeping him in this.

  110. theplanisworking says:

    Lets see, AW…….

Bizrow specifically stated that I chased people away from the blog……. a blatant lie. But you were proud of him for ‘taking a stand’ whatever you meant by that.

So, AW, would you like to explain how I lied, and not your friend? You and the rest of your group are the reasons I won’t regularly post, but I will pop in to respond to you and your friends lying about me, and calling me a liar. Count on that.

  111. Patrick(ri) says:

The Met announcers are really trashing the 70’s uniform. Pretty funny stuff, though Teke will be offended, and Hernandez thinks Tanner started the Stars.”

  112. Cy deGrom.

    Has a ring to it.

  113. Arriba Wilver says:

Check out Andrew’s post at 1:55.

  114. Baywatch says:

I get a worse feel about us playing here than in Milwaukee!

  115. Milo Hamilton says:

I think Josh Harrison could’ve done that.

  116. Cmat0829 says:

Awful error by mercer. I’m ready for a week or so of Clint Barmes.

  117. Florida Steeler says:

Met announcers are pretty bad but, at least, SNY doesn’t have all the pathetic fan shots that ROOT specializes in perseverating on.

  118. radio wave says:

No timely hits and now no gloves.

  119. Florida Steeler says:

  120. Patrick(ri) says:

jW is making excuses, again, as the Pirates put on their Pachenko (sp) defense.

  121. Gene-Zo says:

Then maybe Google, a corporation based in the U.S. with all the freedoms that permits, should try moving their headquarters to China or North Korea and see how they prosper in those nations. They also ignore their market, i.e., their customers, at their own peril, which is as it should be. They have that freedom in the U.S. A little gratitude for all this nation gives them would be appropriate.

  122. Patrick(ri) says:

  123. radio wave says:

    Spoke too soon.

  124. Baywatch says:

Meanwhile, typical Karstenesque start for Cumpton (knew DK would like that!).

  125. Florida Steeler says:

no salvation on the broadcast teams today as Mets’ guys are equally as bad. Mets announcers did say when you have the BA Mercer has, you have to field that ground ball. lol

  126. Andrew says:

Fan shot are pretty much the worst.

  127. Milo Hamilton says:

They play some lousy baseball in the daytime, only 6-11.

  128. Milo Hamilton says:

Bunting with a man on 2nd with the 8 & 9 hitters coming up. The guy is just not very smart.

  129. Arriba Wilver says:

I didn’t say that, Plan. JD did. Haven’t said a word till you called Biz a liar.

That’s one of your crazy outlooks, man. You lump everyone who dares to challenge you into some nebulous “group” and then, based on that crazy outlook, you can’t even keep straight who said what.

And, now, to you, Biz is part of the nebulous group. Think about that for a second. Then think about it longer.

    Look in a mirror, man.
    Look in a mirror.

  130. Milo Hamilton says:

This DeGrom is going to go to sleep in the stretch tonight.

  131. Florida Steeler says:

Mets announcers say the Bucs are batting .128 with bases loaded this year. That is really bad.

  132. Cmat0829 says:

We are letting him off deHOOK

  133. Cmat0829 says:

No he is not. Awful job of situational hitting too.

  134. Florida Steeler says:

Martin has only 67 at bats this year so that comparison is apples to oranges

  135. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Ding ding ding AW.

It’s always somebody picking on Plan.

Dare not disagree or you will be called a troublemaker or some other adolescent insult.

I find humorous. I have never meant any harm in having a disagreement with plan, but sharks in the water smell blood.

  136. Cmat0829 says:

Maybe Abreu is part of the 5 year plan.

  137. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Enough said….summed it all up

  138. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Good idea

  139. Cmat0829 says:

Another weak groundout to second, Duda, Duda…. Mets suck once again this year, all the Duda day.

  140. Cmat0829 says:

    Time for some Frigggin RUNS

  141. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

So, could the Pirates hire Rob Emrick? Such a good announcer and so much better than Greg or Tim.

  142. Arriba Wilver says:

Since 2011 is apples to oranges?

  143. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Or A run

  144. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Duda, Duda

  145. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Mike, my bad

  146. Florida Steeler says:

He is one of the best–up there with Vin Scully.

  147. JD says:

AW – I apologize for bringing him up last night. My bad. I should have known better.

I read JAL’s Memorial Day link you mentioned earlier. Good read! Enjoy the day. Ignore the plan

  148. Cmat0829 says:

He is tied to the NHL. But he is a class act. I’d love them to have him do a half dozen games or so.

  149. Cmat0829 says:

I’ll take Rob emrick. Any Rob emrick over Tim neverett.

  150. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Vin has passed him time…..he gets way off track and winds up talking about dinner menus and other useless information

  151. Cmat0829 says:

This is inexcusable. This pitcher is hittable and they are being shut out through 5. Awful.

  152. theplanisworking says:

OK AW, since you believe I called Biz a liar, I have this for you. You think Biz never said that? You think I am making it up? Here ya go….. keep in mind this was the result of Biz taking exception to me comparing the Penguins exit this year to that against the Islanders in 1975, and since I disagreed with him, Oh no! ……………

    May 13, 2014 at 10:44 PM

What is your point, other than to fight? I remember listening to those games in a trailer.

Plan, I have sit silent watching and reading the blog, get your crap together, else you will make more people leave, ok, whatever year, you win on that one, I win on what I am saying to you.

“else you will make more people leave”.
    In black and white.
This is the entire quote from him, no editing.

So, do tell how I called Biz a liar?
And, I don’t see JD calling me a liar anywhere, just another attack from him.

So you and your friends look in the mirror.
Look at how you come after me when I dare disagree with you. Pot, meet the damn kettle.

I don’t even care how you want to spin this to your liking. Your friend stated, in black and white that I made people leave the blog. I provided proof of that, but I still am not correct? Wow.

This is why I won’t regularly post here anymore. You and your friends can ‘run the show’ as you wish. But I will read occasionally and respond to those who want to lie about me.

Have a Great Memorial Day. Please.

  153. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I know, but says things so fluently that none of it sounds scripted, unlike the current 2

  154. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

CMAT, relax buddy, it’s only the 5th and I don’t think they’ve faced this guy before.

6th and 7th inning they’ll take the lead.

If they put up 3+ runs in one inning, does it really matter what happened before that?

  155. Milo Hamilton says:

They need to find a spot for this guy on the days he doesn’t pitch. Probably 1st base. :)

  156. pattonbb says:

    I’m all for it.

  157. Arriba Wilver says:

Hey, JD, I still owe you a beer from last year. And, Plan won’t believe this, but it goes back before either one of us dared to challenge him. But I owe you that beer from the game we tried to meet at Atria’s, and my phone died.

More good than bad on here.

  158. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Hey Plan, was it in “black and white?”

Bwahahaha….just kidding buddy, don’t be so sensitive

  159. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Freaking pitcher

  160. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Great block, waste a challenge

  161. Patrick(ri) says:

This pachinko stuff is surprisingly effective!

  162. Milo Hamilton says:

Looks like he’s blocking the plate without the ball.

  163. radio wave says:

  164. Patrick(ri) says:

With Vlaz involved the reviewers will probably go with the odds and call him safe.

  165. Florida Steeler says:

You are flat out wrong–I lived in the LA area for twenty years and Vin has not changed. He has ALWAYS talked about players’ backgrounds and trivia in cities. He is the MOST prepared announcer in major sports.
No way past his prime or a large market like LA would dump him.

  166. Milo Hamilton says:

That’s what I think the call is. Whether or not he got there in time is immaterial.

  167. radio wave says:

    Injury to insult!

  168. Cmat0829 says:

Yes. But is that reviewable? Seems like that’s why they reversed the call

  169. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

This blocking rule is garbage and so was that call.

  170. Milo Hamilton says:

But the point here is – GET THE BLEEPING PITCHER OUT.

  171. Cmat0829 says:

    Jay hey bad play there.

  172. Arriba Wilver says:

    This morning, 4:40 A.M.

Plan to JD—Bizrow blatantly lied about me saying I “chased” people off this blog. If that sort of behavior makes him worthy of your ‘personal hall of fame’ , that speaks even more about you than we previously thought……. him also.”

  173. radio wave says:

Pitcher should not beat you with his bat.

  174. Lad 9 says:

deGrom’s swing is reminiscent of (dare I speak it) Gregory Polanco’s. Let’s put him in right field after we trade for him! :)

  175. Andrew says:

This has become as bad at the NFL, violation of the blocking rule. You cannot expect catchers to play and operate one way their entire career and then alter the dynamics in one season, clearly the umpires haven’t adjusted or the review would not have been necessary.

  176. Cmat0829 says:

    Let’s hit deBALL.

  177. Milo Hamilton says:

Don’t the Mets realize that by having him up so soon …nevermind.

  178. Maz in Iowa says:

Doesn’t seem to matter who hits ….Bucs cannot drive in baserunners

  179. Cmat0829 says:

    Agree. The blocking rule sucks.

  180. Cmat0829 says:

I also thought replay wasn’t for ‘judgment calls’ and that would be a judgment call.

  181. Reading says:

The dreaded third time through the lineup and shutout is gone.

  182. Milo Hamilton says:

Three errors in five innings, is that all ?

  183. Patrick(ri) says:

It would seem the shot of his hand sliding over the plate would be prima facia evidence the plate was not blocked?

  184. Baywatch says:

OK, I’m not a Pittsburgh native, but was everyone as FASCINATED with Emerick as I was? I mean, sheesh! Did anyone else have a Chamber of Commerce moment from that?

  185. Florida Steeler says:

He has always been very favorable toward the Burgh.

  186. radio wave says:

    He’s over 100 pitches.

  187. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Well, hello there

  188. Maz in Iowa says:

Trying to find something positive to say!I got nothing

  189. radio wave says:

    He went to cmu.

  190. Florida Steeler says:

Said it all year–fundamentally, this team is terrible. Base running, bunting, RISP–resemble a little league team at times.

  191. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    No he didn’t

  192. radio wave says:

Being from Iowa is good enough.

  193. Cmat0829 says:

    Diaz is squeezing Cumpton.

  194. Cmat0829 says:

Game still winnable and out best inning. 7th coming up And Cumpton has pitched very well.

  195. Bizrow says:

    Its a beautiful day ???

  196. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    1. Cumpton has been very efficient at this point. Low pitch count.

    2. Russell Martin taking charge of his young pitcher to ensure he understand what he (Martin) wants to do in certain situations.

    Re-sign Russell Martin!!!

  197. Milo Hamilton says:

Miami of Ohio. Went to school with Stan Savran. He taught speech & broadcasting at Geneva.

  198. Bizrow says:

What do you think it would cost to re-up Martin and how many years?

  199. Baywatch says:

I’m definitely seeing, OK, a YOUNGER Tom Hanks in “The Brandon Cumpton Story.” Without his cap, not so much, but WITH, dead ringer.

  200. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Sure was

  201. Maz in Iowa says:

    I guess a sense of humor helps……excuse me a moment……..silently sobs to himself…….OK I am better now:)

  202. Milo Hamilton says:

This team’s problems are actually pretty simple to diagnose. It’s a consistent lack of focus & concentration. No one has been immune. The answer is pretty simple too. Each guy can find it in his mirror. Everything else is just elevator music.

  203. Arriba Wilver says:

    Good class.

  204. The Gunner says:

He became a Pirate fan while he was at Geneva College in the late 1960s. The great Bob Prince had a huge influence on him.

  205. Wild Bill says:

Is it me, or do the Pirates just stink at daytime baseball?

  206. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Oh man I have no idea….

But I’d say 2 more years with a raise

  207. Florida Steeler says:

Too much and remember, Neal has a #1 draft choice catcher. Do you really think Nutting’s crew deviates from the plan??
    I doubt it.

  208. Arriba Wilver says:

    Shades of Randy Lerch.

  209. The Gunner says:

The BMTIB should definitely aggressively pursue Martin but, I doubt if they will due to his asking price which I am sure will be very high, maybe $10 to 12 million a year.

  210. JohninOshkosh says:

Per the great Howie Rose, Pirates are 14-11 in 1 run games.

That’s pretty good for a team 5 games under .500.

Mets have same overall record going into game and are 6-13 in the one run variety.

  211. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

2/10 plus club option is what is like to see, but again, I have no idea what the going rate is

  212. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Such a lame ass comment man, seriously rates as one of the dumbest

  213. Maz in Iowa says:

Of course that also means they are getting hammered by multiple runs in the other losses

  214. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

122 pitches on this young pitcher.

I’m not a huge fan of the pitch count, but since this guy started pitching, he’s lived with a pitch count.

This might effect his next outing….

  215. Milo Hamilton says:

It’s safe to say their interest level wanes at times.

  216. Florida Steeler says:

No, yours leads the list–they will NOT pay Martin, a weak hitter 10-12 million a year when they have a #1 draft choice, under team control, sitting in Indy. Some of your comments, like the one about Vin Scully show a total lack of knowledge.

  217. chethejet1 says:

Pirates simply can’t put a big inning together four out of five games. Just about every game is a close one and wears on the pitching staff. Just not enough easy games this year. The players just seem to be unconcerned with things. But they exhibit all the traits of a team that is unfocused and content.

  218. Milo Hamilton says:

    I suggest amputation.

  219. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Works for me

  220. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Please hang one here

  221. Milo Hamilton says:

Right now their offense consists of singles & walks from Ike Davis and home runs from Neil Walker. They’re getting nothing of substance from McCutchen, Alvarez & Marte.

  222. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  223. Reading says:

  224. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Don’t forget the great JayHey Milo…..

  225. radio wave says:

    Probably their last best chance.

  226. The Gunner says:

It is amazing their record is as good as it is based on what you said

  227. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Veteran’s Day= thank a vet.

Memorial Day= give thanks for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Amazes me how many don’t know the difference.

  228. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    I won’t say that yet….not when only down 2-0

  229. Maz in Iowa says:

When Cole pitches he should bat 6th.

  230. Lad 9 says:

I just caught up on the Morning Java posts and I read E A Graham’s rant about the Biz list. I have just two things to say. Biz, thank you and keep them coming. And two, E A, switch to Penn Live. Minor league and very appropriate for you.

  231. JohninOshkosh says:

Stanley Cup winning banner waiving over Broadway, radio?

Much better than it flying over Sunset Boulevard or State Street.

  232. JohninOshkosh says:

  233. chethejet1 says:

Many have hit on the same points as mine. I think what is surprising is how it appears Hurdle rolls with the punches. I don’t know what he is doing or saying behind closed doors, but just too many bad plays and errors to win.

  234. Florida Steeler says:

Everyone has a right to their opinion, although some of you on here criticize those that do not agree with you. He doesn’t need to go to Penn Live, he can comment just as you did and no one told you to go to Penn Live.

  235. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Woah, closer than I thought.

  236. Maz in Iowa says:

Maybe he’s getting advice from John”stoneface” Russell

  237. Milo Hamilton says:

Of course, how could I forget him.

  238. radio wave says:

Did the tv guys say that the play at the plate was umpire’s discression not a formal Mets challenge? From Mets radio.

  239. Maz in Iowa says:

Pedro more errors than HRs.What a conundrum!

  240. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I take my pervious one back….this is now the dumbest.

I understand they have a #1 draft choice as a catcher, but are you ready to hand the pitching staff over to him?

Your reference of Martins offensive ability actually shows your lack of knowledge….

As far as Vin is considered, he’s the greatest of all time, no doubt and nobody will replace him, but he’s boring to listen to these days

  241. Lad 9 says:

Like you said, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  242. The Gunner says:

    maybe Gaby will get lucky

  243. Lad 9 says:

Or he will hit one out. :). Good call Gunner

  244. radio wave says:

Let’s make this guy minute Rice.

  245. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Isn’t that how debates work?

    Critisize the others’ opinion?

Seriously dude, this is totally for fun…

And I thought Lad’s “go to Penn Media” comment pretty funny.

But please tell us again how this is Nuttings fault…lol

  246. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  247. The Gunner says:

thanks, Laddie. Now isn’t it about time for Daydro to blast one???

  248. radio wave says:

    And he did!

  249. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m having trouble keeping up with all the office politics.

  250. Maz in Iowa says:

    A prophet

  251. JohninOshkosh says:

Family was binge watching “East Bound and Down” this weekend. Forgot Kenny called his watercraft “The Panty Dropper.” My Mother-in-Law asked me what that meant. I was friggin’ dying.

  252. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Everyone must be nice to one another and think their opinions are spot on….

And NH is wrong about everything, Nutting is cheap…blah blah blah, SSDD

  253. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Oh I couldn’t watch it with my MIL. She wouldn’t shut up throughout the show anyways….

    Good one man.

  254. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Base hit, base hit, base hit

  255. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  256. The Gunner says:

How about the clutch hitting of our old friend, Jose Tabata????

  257. Milo Hamilton says:

Two big pinch AB’s in the last 3 games for Joggin Joe.

  258. Lad 9 says:

Thank you Papa Grande! We owe him more than a few.

  259. radio wave says:

    Pappa Grande rides again.

  260. Bizrow says:

Didn’t read the morning thread, and now I probably won’t.

Lets get back to the ballgame, we are eyeballing them ;-)

  261. Florida Steeler says:

.237, .236, .211 Batting average for Russell Martin the last three years. So, I ask you who doesn’t have any knowledge about Martin’s offensive ability?? Nutting is NOT going to approve a 10-12 million dollar signing with those offensive numbers when he has a #1 draft choice, under team control, at age 26 in Indy.
Will not matter about his ability to handle pitchers. And, I think the Pirates have a winning per cent age this year with Sanchez behind the plate. At least they did before the last losing streak.

  262. Andrew says:

    Tabata came to play today.

  263. Milo Hamilton says:

Nice to see he hasn’t lost his touch.

  264. The Gunner says:

maybe he is evolving into a Manny Mota type

  265. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Bawahaha Tabby just ticked everyone off on Shea….or whatever it’s called.

    No fun for you!

  266. Baywatch says:

    I’m happier!

  267. Maz in Iowa says:

    The bench comes through.Phew!

  268. Baywatch says:

  269. Lad 9 says:

    Nice Bay!

  270. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Catching isn’t about his offensive numbers, though it helps.

Catchers about how they handle the pitching staff and call games.

In theory, Tony Sanchez SHOULD be ready to be the starting catcher and I’m sure that was the thought process when they signed Martin.

But he’s not ready. A lot of credit goes to Ray Serage about the pitching staff improvements, but some of that credit needs to go towards Martin as well.

If you’re just looking at offensive numbers, then your missing the point.

  271. Milo Hamilton says:

OK, we can all act up now. We know DK’s not watching. ;)

  272. The Gunner says:

The bullpen better step up and hold these lousy Mets!!!

  273. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Fly balls sure do go to die in CF.

  274. The Gunner says:

The big boys are due up for the Bucs – it’s time to GET IT DONE!!!

  275. tdb1977 says:

    This team STINKS at bunting!

  276. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Safe to say

  277. Patrick(ri) says:

    How old is Valverde?

  278. Bizrow says:

    Ok, Cutch, do it

  279. Milo Hamilton says:

    No one knows for sure.

  280. Patrick(ri) says:

  281. Milo Hamilton says:

It’s a good thing Laz Diaz isn’t a brain surgeon.

  282. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Lower Alabama?

  283. Patrick(ri) says:

Caught a side view if Valverde on the mound with a “are You Eating Sensibly” billboard on the second deck.

  284. Bizrow says:

Now, that was some good hitting

  285. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Thank you Gabby Sanchez.

Makes the platoon look that much better

  286. Reading says:

  287. Lad 9 says:

Gaby! How about that first base platoon.

  288. Milo Hamilton says:

Everyone that has been looking for the Gaby Sanchez signature moment the last couple years need look no further.

  289. Lad 9 says:

Ryan you should be frightened. We appear to be on the same page today. :)

  290. The Gunner says:

Baseball Reference says his birth date is 3/24/78. Yeah, right!

  291. Patrick(ri) says:

Cutch burns rubber from 3rd to home!

  292. Baywatch says:

    What GREAT Day Gamers! :-)

  293. Milo Hamilton says:

Good thing the Mets cut The Farns. Now they’re cheap.

  294. Bizrow says:

    Lets keep it going

  295. Thundercrack says:

I though Walker would have been a dead duck at home. He should have.

    Terrible throw from the outfield.

  296. Thundercrack says:

    All Gabby does is hit!

  297. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Are we usually off?

  298. Bizrow says:

Yeah it was, looked like the LF got to the ball at the same time PRNW hit third

  299. Brandie says:

  300. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Great AB by Russell Martin. I think it was probably played wrong, but he got the ball up and drove a deep FB to get the run home.

  301. tdb1977 says:

Nice at bat by Martin to bring home Gabby. Now he is standing in scoring position. Let’s keep this train going.

  302. radio wave says:

If this lead holds consider a steal for the Bucs.

  303. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Agree, but had to go for it

  304. Baywatch says:

My Favorite Martin ~ Bill Bixby

  305. Brandie says:

    Down here Bay!!

  306. Thundercrack says:

Does anyone else think Martin should have been standing on second base when the throw came in? Didn’t bust it out of the box

  307. Milo Hamilton says:

    Hey Bay !

  308. Patrick(ri) says:

“Boy, those were ugly hacks from Marte. He didn’t have a chance. Totally overmatched.” ,eats announcer commentator.

  309. Milo Hamilton says:

Too bad Dejan didn’t see that. ;)

  310. Patrick(ri) says:

    “Mets,” not eats

  311. tdb1977 says:

Holy smokes. Watson with a single!

  312. Thundercrack says:

Watson may have a better swing than Barmes

  313. Carlos Danger says:

Congrats tony on the first mlb hit! Let’s bring him around too!

  314. Baywatch says:

And Watson gets the straight-up A+ Rock Critique!

  315. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

So I had to step out for a second, came back to bases loaded and asked my 6 year old what happened.

He said Watson got a hit, told him impossible…..

He was right, I feel stupid.

  316. pattonbb says:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

You’re absolutely right, though. Joggin’ Joe has come up big.

  317. Baywatch says:

What happens when the Mets have a long inning in the field like that and SOMEBODY’S gotta go potty?

  318. Lad 9 says:

Actually no. But I worry about anyone that thinks like me. :)

  319. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

He got to second, no he didn’t bust out of the box, but ended up there anyway.

  320. Reading says:

  321. Carlos Danger says:

    Frickin duda. Finish them mark!

  322. Baywatch says:

    Hey, Milo!

  323. Milo Hamilton says:

    Better than walking him.

  324. Carlos Danger says:

    Sweep the leg!

  325. Milo Hamilton says:

Lots of hair on these Mets.

  326. The Gunner says:

Great win for the Bucs – we had ‘em alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way!

  327. Andrew says:

Good way to start the 10 game road trip.

  328. Lad 9 says:

Raise it! Nice comeback for the Buccos. Shout out to Gaby. Enjoy the rest of the day all!

  329. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  330. Patrick(ri) says:

    Hamstring preventive maintenance?

  331. Steelag70 says:

    RAISE IT!!!

  332. Baywatch says:

CUTCH! Leading the post game THREEATRICS in center field!

  333. Baywatch says:

    Aaaaargh! Aye, me Hearty!

  334. Baywatch says:

A big Memorial Day UP HERE for you, Lad!

  335. radio wave says:

    We will take it.

  336. Baywatch says:

    Hoist the colors!!’

  337. Bizrow says:

  338. tdb1977 says:

Since the game ended, the Met’s released Velverde and FIRED their hitting coach! Per!!!

  339. pattonbb says:

Wow…Mets just announced they have released Valverde and fired their hitting coach.

  340. Carlos Danger says:

  341. Well, for once, the Pirates won a day game in NYC this afternoon since the Mets’ bullpen couldn’t hold the lead going into the late innings. Melancon gave up a homer in the 9th but he also saved it, so the Bucs won their 7th road game of the season. And that’s that until tomorrow evening, weather permitting. And now, here’s wishing you all a good Memorial Day evening.

  342. twentytwo22 says:

Squeezed one final BS/L out of Valverde.

  343. twentytwo22 says:

Nukin guys 5 minutes after the game isn’t good. The Pirates have to kick these guys when they’re down.

  344. Steelag70 says:

As bad as the Buccos were over those 20+ yrs, not sure even they did something like that…

  345. JD says:

AW – You’re on dude. I’m definitely up for a beer. It’s about time for a “group” meeting. Who should “plan” the agenda?

  346. Cmat0829 says:

Should have fired Alderson who is a miserable GM. With their payroll WTF are they doing with Valverde as closer. And Abreu is a fossil.

  347. Cmat0829 says:

Mets should be ashamed putting that product out in that market with those revenues.

  348. Bizrow says:

The Lunatic Nation is now at 476 ;-)

  349. JohninOshkosh says:

Why is the Kings/Hawks game being played at 9ET/8CT ?

Wasn’t today at holiday ? Why not start it at like 4 or 5 ET ?

  350. JohninOshkosh says:

Joe Micheletti is excellent. Hibbing, Minnesota product. Played for Herb Brooks at Minnesota. Aside from Milbury, NBC has some quality broadcasters doing their hockey coverage.

  351. Carlos Danger says:

    I dislike roenick also.
