  1. JRay3 says:

Well made the drive over this morning and had an enjoyable afternoon taking the kids to go get autographs as some of the Pirates entered Petco.

Was able to see Liriano and Volquez walk in together and tell Edinson what a great game he had, he was all smiles. Reminded Frankie we were just 3 back of a playoff spot and hope the team can feed off the momentum they have started to build.

Travis Snider got out of his cab signed for everybody, real friendly guy and he was great with my kids and told me they were very cute and polite….just don’t think he will be around that much longer for me to point him out while watching games.

Also Jeanmar Gomez signed my little ones hats so for two kids who are not huge baseball fans they had plenty to smile about.

It is what makes this game great at times, just the little moments like that to be experienced, shared and remembered.

Off to the park in a bit, hoping to see Charlie get off to a good start seems like the first inning has been his nemesis too many times this season.

Great chance for the Bucs to finish this ten game roadie on a strong note and a plus .500 trip before Milwaukee looms at PNC.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  3. Baywatch says:

Me & Mrs. Bay fiddin’ to enjoy a pregame episode of “Sherlock!”

  4. Patrick(RI) says:

looking forward to this, but I now have a better understanding of “falling asleep in the 8th” – I can manage it by the 3rd with left coast starts.

  5. Patrick(RI) says:

+++ It is nice to share the remote, occasionally.

  6. Brandie says:

Lurking today. Enjoyed the day’s discussions. Cannot wait to see if Polanco really has what it takes to stay. I think Mercer is on a short leash that is getting shorter everyday as this team begins to come together. Here’s hoping Marte gets it together one day and learns that consistent hitting is an integral part of baseball.

    Good evening all.

  7. Jim S. says:

Those are great stories about the Bucs being nice to your kids, JRay. I know some people just look at the cold, hard facts about whether a guy is producing as all that matters about him. I’ve always felt a little bit better about the players who seem to interact with fans and remember what it is like for a kid to be treated well by an actual big leaguer. Maybe I’m naive, but I always root a little harder for a guy who I know is a good guy to the people who pay his enormous salary.

A few years back, a friend and I took our kids to a game at Wrigley Field. After the game, which the Cubs had lost about 14-2 to the Reds, our boys wanted to stick around for autographs from the Cubs. They were too young to care who the players were or how they did that afternoon. I remember that the players did everything they could to avoid interacting with any fans that day. Even the guys who were fresh up from AAA avoided any sort of fan interaction as they made their way across the hallway from the locker room to the players’ parking lot. I thought it was so crappy how they had team personnel essentially running interference for them. Guys like ARam and Derek Lee totally blew off all the kids. They acted like the small line of 20 or so kids didn’t exist. Just when we were about to leave, out stepped Ted Lilly. I remember him very clearly saying, “Hey, over here, kids.” He saw what was going on with the other players, and he stopped and signed every last autograph with a smile on his face. The part that was most impressive was that he was the starting pitcher, and he got bombed that afternoon.

  9. Jim S. says:

    But, just occasionally. ;-)

  10. Jim S. says:

    Good evening, Brandie!

  11. Arriba Wilver says:

Evening, Brandie. I think you made a good choice to lurk. Things were relatively calm till the Boss decided there wasn’t enough Polanco talk. ;-)

  12. The Gunner says:

Ground Chuck really needs to go deep into tonight’s game.

  13. Karen22 says:

Evening, Brandie. I lurk most days. A regular stalker. I agree with everything you just said.

  14. Brandie says:

    Hey there Jimmerz!

  15. Karen22 says:

Overdue. And the defense is overdue to defend him.

  16. Brandie says:

Was not settin’ toe the first into that one Areebz!

  17. Brandie says:

Greetings Temptress. Must admit that DK’s particular brand of wit with facts has me laughing Jandy’s A off!!!!! ;)

  18. Brandie says:

Put out the APB for “Good Charlie” Morton.

  19. JRay3 says:

    +++

Great story Jim. It does make you pull a bit harder for those who do take time to make an impact.

I know my two were thrilled to get a couple of the players to sign their pirate parrot hats and kid baseballs even if they don’t know who they really are but do know they play on TV.

The brief engagement has made for such a positive afternoon that I’m thankful for getting to share in with them.

  20. Jim S. says:

    Gunner:

We need to just keep saying to ourselves, “Low pitch count, low pitch count, low pitch count.”

Maybe the power or positive thinking will help. I’m willing to try just about anything at this point.

  21. Jim S. says:

That’s awesome, JRay. Bring home a W tonight.

I assume the weather is clear, calm and about 75 degrees? In other words, the same weather as about 330 days a year in San Diego.

  22. theplanisworking says:

Jim, Ted Lilly was the hope for humanity that day. No reason players who make obscene amounts of money to play a game can’t act human for a few minutes a day. Shameful.

I also echo JRay’s comments (welcome back, JRay) about the Pirate players being nice to his kids. Doesn’t require any extra effort, or cost to be nice for the little fans.

You guys bring home a win.

  23. theplanisworking says:

Give your wife a high 5, Bay. ;)

  24. Jim S. says:

Nope. It really is not a lot to ask of them to give back just a tad, plan.

  25. Brandie says:

    Holy Hippo…A Plannah Montana sighting!

  26. Wild Bill says:

Hello all from Ocean City, Md., where no one seems to give a darn about any sports team – as they are too busy having fun, me included.

There is a baseball game tonight, I see. Yinz are in charge of it, as I must examine the night life a little further while down here. But I did hear that some Ravens got tossed out of Seacrets here, which makes me feel even more fond of O.C.

  27. theplanisworking says:

    MUPPET BABY !!

Hope all is well in your world.
    Lurk away, oh Brandie Cakes.
Just be careful around those corners…………

Most of you have a great night.
If you don’t like the game, you can always go back to the 29th version of the ‘final comments’ about Gregory Polanco.

  28. Brandie says:

Even better…Keep saying “Vance Worley is coming” and click your heels 3 times and maybe he will appear. ;)

  29. Brandie says:

Have an awesome time Untamed William!!!!

  30. Brandie says:

    Checkarooni Planny Baby!

  31. Brandie says:

Thanks again for the line ups Lad-tastic.

  32. Jim S. says:

How about the new guy, “San Luis” Obispo?

  33. Wild Bill says:

I will do my best, Brandie. And the beat part is, I haven’t had one thought about He Who Must No Be Named all day.

  34. Brandie says:

    Got chills reading that.

  35. The Gunner says:

Great strategy, Jim. The law of averages says Charles is due for an outstanding game tonight. Also, let’s hope for lotsa Bucco offense in case Chuck hits some rough water.

  36. Wild Bill says:

Or best part – Jandy got me again.

  37. Brandie says:

Are we talking about the new Penguins GM as “He who must not be named?” (Warning: Snark Alert)

  38. Brandie says:

San Luis is a much better moniker than Wirfin.

  39. JohninOshkosh says:

Really good to have you back, JRay !

  40. Wild Bill says:

    Good one, Brandie!

  41. JohninOshkosh says:

So, does anyone have any thoughts about Polanco ?

  42. Baywatch says:

    ++++

  43. Brandie says:

Do you mean the cornmeal product that goes great with tomato sauce?

Whoops! That’s polenta. I get those confused all the time.

  44. Patrick(ri) says:

    So does my spell checker.

  45. Arriba Wilver says:

I asked you to avoid the Game of Thrones spoilers! Now I’m convinced he was in that episode last night. Thanks.

  46. Baywatch says:

    (My favorite Brandieism!)

  47. JohninOshkosh says:

Someday, I’ll have to some beers with you, Brandie. Betcha it would be one entertaining evening. Much respect for your humor and pop culture acumen!

  48. JohninOshkosh says:

I have a reverent respect for No Spoilers requests, AW! Hate it when people do it to me. I won’t pay that bad stuff forward.

  49. Jim S. says:

    Snickering.

  50. Maz in Iowa says:

Nice to see no one got killt(killed in Iowa speak) or stabbed in the last few hours in the asylum.Nurse Cratchett is doing a fine job today. :)

  51. Brandie says:

    It’s a date man! :)

    Thank you for the compliment.

  52. Arriba Wilver says:

    Just a bad joke. ;-)

  53. Brandie says:

    THE SAY BAY KID!!!!

  54. JohninOshkosh says:

    :)

  55. Jim S. says:

Definitely. I see him shutting down that Padres offense in that stadium.

  56. Brandie says:

    “Everybody’s going Wirfin,
    Wirfin USA”.

  57. Cmat0829 says:

Oh god. Hide that from Greg brown.

  58. Maz in Iowa says:

Good evening.I did NOT do it and I wasn’t even there…. and if I was I’m sorry ………..That covers almost all accusations

  59. Brandie says:

With everything on this page you could have commented on I am surprised you chose that. I will do my best to hide that one from Greg “The Hype Machine” Brown. ;)

  60. Jim S. says:

I have to work really late tonight, but I might be able to get home for first pitch. The good news for me is that, unlike Pittsburgh, first pitch is 9:10 here in the midwest – or as my dad always calls it, “That funny time.”

  61. Bizrow says:

IMO, now we focus on the real deal of the day

    A PBC win

Our home today had lots of back and forth, but no real lifting our legs and wetting on each other.

    Thank you all

  62. Brandie says:

Na. No accusations here. It’s just the way I act when I am here. Ask all the other posters. I am quite weird.

  63. Stolmy rehabbing in Bradenton tonight. 2 fairly clean innings so far.

  64. Jim S. says:

Does that mean his stuff isn’t “filthy”, Rev?

  65. Bizrow says:

I think that is one reason why the FO was comfortable trading Morris

  66. Matt Beam says:

agree, he’s not been good but the defense has been horrendous when he’s been on the mound

  67. The Gunner says:

That’s good news, Lucky / we’re gonna need him as the season progresses. So how many innings do you think we’ll get out of Charles Morton tonight?

  68. DJ says:

Hey, Jim, next time Gallardo is in town against the Bucs, see if you can get him to sign a couple autographs.

Hopefully his fate will have been as good as Lilly’s.

    p.s. Good story.

  69. Brandie says:

    Thanks for the update Revvie-lution!

  70. Yes, Jim and Yes, Biz, but 2 innings against a High-A team with a record of 12-43 may call for some added rehab time.

He only gave up a walk, 0 hits and K’d 2, so fairly clean.

  71. 7 would thrill me, Gunner.

  72. Maz in Iowa says:

Kingham is white hot for Bradenton. His ERA is 2.15.I’d like to see him in Altoona later this season and maybe Indy next year

  73. I’ve missed those names. Especially the ones for plan. Plannah Montana. That’s great.

    :D

  74. Lad 9 says:

BRANDIEEEEEEEE! Thanks for the shout out, Bran Muppet!

  75. Lad 9 says:

Lieutenant Plan! Good to see you my friend. I miss our exchanges.

  76. Brandie says:

    LAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDD NIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

  77. Jim S. says:

I don’t think that is Nick Kingham you are referring to, Maz. Kingham’s been at Altoona since last year. But, I’ve been reading that his velocity is down about 3 MPH this year, his walks are up and his K’s are down. He’s still getting decent results, but I think they are having him work on some things before he is elevated. If he can get to Indy by the end of the year and all goes well, he could be a June 2015 call-up.

  78. Brandie says:

    Thanks Revster!

  79. Bizrow says:

But no steps back, he is rehabbing

    Pitching loose and easy

    No Oh-oh

    Know what I mean?

  80. Bizrow says:

Has he had his TJ surgery yet?

Might be coming with the drop in velocity

  81. Bizrow says:

So, are we all in with the big W tonight??

  82. Lad 9 says:

Shudder…. But that’s what it sounds like, doesn’t it Biz? Would hate to see two of our top three pitching prospects go down for TJS in the same year.

  83. pattonbb says:

    Good stuff, JRay.

  84. Maz in Iowa says:

    My mistake.Tyler Glasnow

  85. JohninOshkosh says:

Brewers leading their Upper Midwest rivals, the Twins, 4-0.

Remember when Bud threw out the idea to contract (i.e, eliminate) the Twins ? Just so he could try to annex the Upper Midwest baseball fan bases.

    What a tool.

  86. Jim S. says:

I thought maybe that was where you were going, Maz. Glasnow started kind of slow this year. He had a bit of a back issue, but I think the last 3 or 4 starts are back to where he ended last year. That kid is 20!

  87. Jim S. says:

I read something about him, and it didn’t say anything about any sort of injury. Could be that they have taken the 4-seam away from him for awhile until he learns to command the 2-seam. I believe the 2-seam for most guys comes in a few ticks slower. I don’t know if that is it. But, he definitely is not throwing as hard, and his control was spotty for awhile. I think he is getting the control back, though, in the last few outings.

  88. Jim S. says:

Also, made sure to get the Brewers into the NL in the same division as the Cubs. Never stopped taking care of his team. Fill the owners’ pockets and they’ll overlook a lot.

  89. Bizrow says:

Yeah, Lad9, something is going on with the arm/elbow problems.

How could folks like Spahn, Law, Friend, Gibson, Blass and so on go on for so many years, while so many TJ surgeries are happening?

    Two thoughts

The old folks were much more active during the off season, out doing stuff
The young uns have too long of a season trying to hit the max speed button on the radar screen

  90. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, in the first several years, Brewers always played weekday series with the Cubs at Miller Park. Guaranteed Bud extra cash with bigger crowds on traditionally low attended nights like Tuesdays.

So proud he went to Madison for school. Not.

  91. Maz in Iowa says:

Yeah I get those 2 mixed up.Nice if he makes the majors by 22 or 23.Might be the tallest guy in the organization.Hitters only went .142 last year and .173 this year.

  92. Karen22 says:

Heh heh…why pick on Jandy’s A when she’s not here to defend it?! :O

  93. Baywatch says:

    Plannnnnnn! My FRIEND!

  94. Maz in Iowa says:

Gonna be a shame to lose Harrison at leadoff.Maybe sitting Marte a couple games/week and Pedro once a week might be prudent(George H Bush)

  95. Bizrow says:

Well, one good thing Bud brought us was Slick Frank

The Budmeister and Slick Frank, two peas in the same pod

  96. The Gunner says:

I would be elated if Brother Morton gave us 7 good innings tonight.

  97. Maz in Iowa says:

    Vance Worley getting hammered

  98. There’s your uh-oh.

  99. Milo Hamilton says:

OK. Let’s see how they do when no one’s watching.

  100. Bizrow says:

Not really, Worley is a one dollar scratch off

Charlie is an uh-oh right now

  101. Milo Hamilton says:

And heeeeere we go. These guys are so easy to figure.

  102. The Gunner says:

You know how Charlie operates, Biz

  103. Bizrow says:

Yup, but I like the guy

  104. JRay3 says:

Well would not be a Charlie Morton start without early error.

Has put himself in this trouble early.

But had Quentin all confused in that AB.

  105. JRay3 says:

And Chuck pumping some gas passed Headly.

  106. JRay3 says:

Nicely done as Morton puts a quick stop to that inning with two punch outs and some leather from Ike.

  107. Milo Hamilton says:

    OK, no harm no foul.

  108. The Gunner says:

See Biz, he got out of it with no damage – now we need to get lotsa runs!!!

  109. Bizrow says:

    But no Polanco?? :-)

  110. 20 pitches in the first. Maybe 6 Gunner with a little more efficiency.

  111. The Gunner says:

    JRay

Your comment sounds like Charlie may have an “explosive lower half” similar to what the ESPN announcers said about Cutch last night

  112. JRay3 says:

Alvarez looks pretty locked in from my vantage point…bodes well for his AB’s tonight.

  113. Milo Hamilton says:

    Where are you sitting ?

  114. JRay3 says:

    Gunner,

Will say his fastball has some late life tonight.

  115. JRay3 says:

    Right above Bucs dugout.

  116. Milo Hamilton says:

OK, what are you wearing ? I can look for you if things get slow.

  117. The Gunner says:

Hopefully, Chuck’s 2nd inning goes smoother

  118. DJ says:

Can we move Marte further down in the order?

  119. DJ says:

Further down and he’s back to lead-off.

  120. JRay3 says:

Actually a Black Pirates sweatshirt (I do live in AZ so this is chilly). And a mustard Bucs hat with Pirate logo circa 1986 ish.

  121. The Gunner says:

    Lucky

The 2nd inning went well for Chuck. Maybe your original 7 innings is still possible.

  122. Cmat0829 says:

Marte marte. 3-2 count had to he looking fastball. How does a major league gutted swing and miss that pitch over the plate at 91mph???? He is l-o-s-t.

  123. Baywatch says:

All those players are scared of Charlie. Studied the film of him HITTING 3 players a game!

  124. Cmat0829 says:

Gutted sb hitter. iPhone too smart for own good.

  125. Baywatch says:

    LOL! Noooo!!!

  126. JRay3 says:

I’d offer to rush the field to pick things up for you, but my wife wouldn’t appreciate my one phone call asking her to come get me.

  127. Milo Hamilton says:

Josh Miller said this morning that Marte looks like a little kid swinging a wiffle bat at lightning bugs.

  128. Cmat0829 says:

Does anyone know why Quentin’s grounder to Pedro was a foul ball ? On the replay it didn’t appear to hit him……

  129. JRay3 says:

Wow that was a bomb a very unexpected bomb from Mercer.

  130. The Gunner says:

    You may kiss it goodbye!!!!

  131. Cmat0829 says:

    Perfect.

  132. Bizrow says:

So catch a foul ball or something ;-)

Sheesh, can’t you get on ESPN or something???

  133. Maz in Iowa says:

    OMG!!!

  134. JRay3 says:

He does look lost…really pulling for him to get some confidence back as this stretch can not be good for the mental part of this game.

  135. Cmat0829 says:

    Wow. He needed that

  136. Bizrow says:

    I will, cool beans

  137. Karen22 says:

    WHOA! Well, there he is!

  138. Arriba Wilver says:

I have to admit I wondered why Mercer was in with Charlie, but I guess we found out why. Off a right hander no less.

  139. Cmat0829 says:

Oh no. Everytime the pirates run this ticket promo based on runs scored it jinxs us.

  140. Maz in Iowa says:

    All Harrison does is hit

  141. pattonbb says:

    Very strange looking balk.

  142. Cmat0829 says:

He’s Matt Hague. Except he can actually hit in mlb.

  143. Cmat0829 says:

Have to throw to first can’t fake it

  144. Cmat0829 says:

    Early bullpen action.

  145. Cmat0829 says:

Stauffer sucks. And bud black managing for his job.

  146. JRay3 says:

Bud Black not taking any chances early with Pedro up and bases juiced.

  147. pattonbb says:

Wow. Bud Black didn’t waste much time.

  148. Cmat0829 says:

He’s on his way out. Has to try to right this ship ASAP.

  149. Maz in Iowa says:

    Capn hook. :)

  150. Reading says:

    Need some barrel hete.

  151. pattonbb says:

Stauffer looked like a nervous wreck out there with all of that twitching and spitting.

  152. Arriba Wilver says:

    +++

  153. Maz in Iowa says:

No way the Bucs win now……Morton cannot hold a lead

  154. Cmat0829 says:

    Just a bit high.

  155. The Gunner says:

    Pedro strands 3 more runners!!!

  156. Cmat0829 says:

Wow 3-2 off speed. Didn’t give in to Pedro.

  157. Cmat0829 says:

    Keep calm.

  158. The Gunner says:

    Maz

Charles is due to hold a lead. Tonight is his night!

  159. Maz in Iowa says:

Stay there.I know I have some torches and pitchforks in my garage somewhere. Now where did I put those??

  160. cobra39 says:

Anyone remember Dick Enberg? He does the Padre play-by-play on TV. He’s been around forever but he sounds the same as he did 30 years ago.

  161. JRay3 says:

Wow 7 K’s for Charlie through three he says the heck with defense.

  162. Cmat0829 says:

What has happened to chase headly? He sucks now

  163. Cmat0829 says:

He’s classic. Miss him on nfl.

  164. Arriba Wilver says:

    I got it, Maz. ;-)

  165. Maz in Iowa says:

Pedro must think he’s in Seattle…..cause he’s “”Clueless”"

  166. cobra39 says:

He’s good, no doubt. His voice hasn’t changed at all.

  167. Reading says:

    Come on Man!!

  168. Cmat0829 says:

Thank you for hitting marte. Only way he gets on

  169. Arriba Wilver says:

    Was that payback?

  170. cobra39 says:

    I thought that was Sleepless….

  171. Andrew says:

He had a career year propelled by a 21% HR/FB rate.

  172. Reading says:

Sports Challenge was the greatest show on Saturdays about 40+ years ago.

  173. pattonbb says:

    Most definitely.

  174. Arriba Wilver says:

Pretty dumb, with Marte, and the pitch Charlie threw that hit the Padre looked like a strike.

  175. cobra39 says:

OMG. I thought I was the only one who remembered that.

  176. JRay3 says:

And Jordy having a night as he brings in Marte who uses his speed to get in scoring position.

    3-0 Buccos!

  177. cobra39 says:

    Jordy — RBI machine.

  178. Cmat0829 says:

Nice ab by mercer. Is he awakening?

  179. Reading says:

Mercer trying to ruin my J-Hay to SS when the Chosen One arrives narrative.

  180. Arriba Wilver says:

    Glad to see they paid.

  181. Cmat0829 says:

Well now he sucks. Glad he’s not ours.

  182. Maz in Iowa says:

    Dude We’re talkin Pedro

  183. cobra39 says:

Someone called the Bob Pompeani show suggesting they move Pedro to short. Sounded like a nice guy so Bob had to politely say….that ain’t happenin’.

  184. Cmat0829 says:

How does the GM in San Diego still have his job. This has to be year 4. or 5 of this outfit and they suck.

  185. Reading says:

In St. Louis, they were calling Taveras’ callup for Saturday’s game “Oscar Day.” May I be the first to suggest that Polanco’s call-up day be termed “Narrative Day.”

  186. Cmat0829 says:

Name of the year. Quackenbush. Sponsored by geico

  187. Reading says:

This game should be about 8-0.

  188. Cmat0829 says:

    Super 2sday.

  189. pattonbb says:

Agreed. But any time Carlos Quentin gets thrown inside to, much less hit, Padres usually act like it’s some deliberate act of war.

  190. Cmat0829 says:

Yep. Not a great ab from cutch there. Too anxious.

  191. Reading says:

The Bucco Twinkill allows the SDs to hang around a little longer.

  192. cobra39 says:

I once went to an orthopedist named Quackenbush. Never felt real comfortable with him….

  193. Maz in Iowa says:

    The Merciless Murdering Mercer Machine

  194. Reading says:

    Good one.

  195. Cmat0829 says:

Has to be a Tuesday groupon night.

  196. Milo Hamilton says:

Thought he was wrestling out east on the indie circuit.

  197. cobra39 says:

    Yes, I remember that guy.

  198. cobra39 says:

    Russell — nice speed!

  199. JRay3 says:

    Morton just filthy tonight.

  200. Maz in Iowa says:

Charlie Morton lean mean HBP machine

  201. pattonbb says:

    Impressive play.

  202. Cmat0829 says:

Nothing better than for ‘aladdins bail bonds’ to be a behind the plate sponsor.

  203. Maz in Iowa says:

Oughtta be a law having Marte/Pedro in the same line up

  204. Milo Hamilton says:

Amarista ? Probably works at Starbucks in the off season.

  205. Cmat0829 says:

He and Cabrera look like kids wearing their dads’ uniforms. Can’t be more than ten feet tall combined.

  206. cobra39 says:

    One double play, comin’ up.

  207. JohninOshkosh says:

    Amarista the barista.

  208. Florida Steeler says:

5 inning Chuck is back. Nothing new!!!

  209. Reading says:

    Becoming a problem.

  210. Maz in Iowa says:

    Same ol Charlie

  211. Be honest: You knew all this was coming when the MVP had that decidedly un-MVP at-bat with bases loaded. Baseball goes like this.

  212. Milo Hamilton says:

This is like a root canal.

  213. Milo Hamilton says:

We knew this was coming yesterday.

  214. Florida Steeler says:

yep, just like runs in every NBA game.

  215. Maz in Iowa says:

    More like a psychedelic flashback

  216. Reading says:

    CM’s 4 no-hit innings were certainly impressive.

  217. JRay3 says:

Wheels fell of for Morton that half inning…just can’t shake that one bad inning syndrome.

Bucs should have chances against Padres pen that is going deep tonight.

Unfortunately this has turned into a game.

  218. Milo Hamilton says:

5 innings in 2 hours & 12 minutes. And you can’t blame replay.

  219. Reading says:

Proposed new sabermetrist stat: the 4/9 no hitter.

  220. Baywatch says:

I’m sorry. I see the steps Charlie has taken to better himself. But to me, he just doesn’t have the killer instinct needed to be a really good pitcher.

  221. Cmat0829 says:

Charlie lost focus out there. Good on him to finish the inning and leave em loaded. But that’s it.

  222. Cmat0829 says:

    Yup. Had that feeling

  223. Cmat0829 says:

Good night for a good guy mercer. Keep it up Jordy!!

  224. Cmat0829 says:

Yikes padres have some struggling hitters. Giorko is hitting .166.

  225. Milo Hamilton says:

We’re going to need a 14 man pitching staff.

  226. Maz in Iowa says:

    The Merciless Mashing Mercer Machine

  227. twentytwo22 says:

    2 on 0 out.

  228. pattonbb says:

    +++

  229. Cmat0829 says:

    Awful bunt attempt. No excuse.

  230. twentytwo22 says:

    Bunt our hottest hitter.

  231. Cmat0829 says:

Just keep shuttling them back and forth

  232. JRay3 says:

And just like that Bucs plate one back off SD pen.

Mercer, Snider and now Walker putting an inning together.

  233. twentytwo22 says:

Thank God, Leyva got that right. After that bunt decision..

  234. Cmat0829 says:

Right call with walker and cutch next. But god darn it no one on this team can bunt

  235. Cmat0829 says:

If jayhey bunts walkers single scores two. Right decision.

  236. Andrew says:

The Pirates are breaking all the run expectancy charts tonight.

  237. Milo Hamilton says:

Left ‘em loaded three times. 15 base runners, 4 runs.

  238. Cmat0829 says:

Good for Jared Hughes. I will admit I wrote both he and jayhey off on spring training. I was wrong.

  239. JRay3 says:

    Both teams leaving runners on.

    Pirates 10 LOB
    Padres 8 LOB

    Chances galore this evening.

  240. Milo Hamilton says:

    8 starting position players
    1 backup infielder
    1 backup outfielder
    1 backup catcher
    5 starting pitchers
    9 relievers

    That ought to do it.

  241. Cmat0829 says:

    Bunt marte pleasa

  242. Cmat0829 says:

He has no clue up there. Lost.

  243. Cmat0829 says:

Would the pirates be so bold to demote marte to aaa when polanco comes up? He may need it.

  244. Cmat0829 says:

If nothing else I’d start tabata tomorrow and Wednesday and give marte a three day mental break at least.

  245. Eric Bowser says:

Blind squirrel finds a nut, otherwise known as Jordy Mercer’s night in San Diego.

  246. Maz in Iowa says:

    Mercerrrrrrrr

  247. Nate83 says:

At this rate Mercer is going to have a higher batting average then Marte by the end of the night.

  248. Cmat0829 says:

    Marte’s squirrel has no nuts.

  249. Cmat0829 says:

Bases loaded again. Is this a record ?

  250. Cmat0829 says:

Let’s bust this open. Then bring in Sadler or Gomez.

  251. JRay3 says:

JHAY!!! Station to station as Bucs pound out 13th hit of the night.

Pirates getting the offense a going.

  252. Nate83 says:

Pirate right fielders have 5 hits tonight including 2 in this inning. Can Polanco do that?

  253. Cmat0829 says:

Finally. Like a rain storm in the desert. Get Sadler up.

  254. JRay3 says:

The Pittsburgh Kid! Walker blows this one open, 7-2 Pirates and the black and gold contingent are loud while SD fans head to exits.

About to go 9-4 in last 13 and 5-3 on this road trip, solid ball being played by the Buccos!

  255. Andrew says:

Padres’ pitchers have thrown 184 pitches.

  256. Nate83 says:

And with that Walker double I can now go to bed. Clinched going at least .500 on this very difficult road trip and finally broke through the 4 under .500 mark.

  257. Reading says:

    Order restored.

  258. twentytwo22 says:

I love bloopers over the infield with men on base.

  259. JRay3 says:

Bullpen will be shot rest of this series and they are throwing a call up tomorrow.

  260. Cmat0829 says:

Padres need to start over. Fire GM and manager and do it quickly. They suck.

  261. Milo Hamilton says:

Hey, the Buccos aren’t 4th in the league in OBP for nothing.

  262. Cmat0829 says:

    Bases loaded AGAIN

  263. Andrew says:

Yeah the Padres aren’t very good, but then neither were the Mets, have to take advantage of opportunities.

  264. JRay3 says:

Gaby with the Bucs third PH hit of the night and two RBI’s.

What a beautiful, fun night at the ballpark this evening.

  265. Andrew says:

From the Padres beat: The only available reliever on the Padres’ 40-man is LHP Bobby LaFromboise. He worked 1.1 IP for El Paso tonight.

  266. Baywatch says:

Might as well go ahead and flip the scoreboard to 10-3 … Well, they hit Walker! :-)

  267. Reading says:

Add that to the “Teaching Hustle to Young Athletes” sports video series.

  268. Jim S. says:

Hey, my hat is off to anyone here that stuck that game out until the end. It was about 1:30 Central time when it ended, and you folks in the East were an hour deeper into the night. I don’t know why I stuck it out, but I did. And, I enjoyed it. But, for the love of all that is holy, please play a quicker game tonight, guys! Please! That is all.
