    Polancogate! Draftgate! Bylsmagate!

    Let’s play some baseball!!!

  10. Maz in Iowa says:

    Free Polanco!!

  11. theplanisworking says:

A long time ago I predicted June 20th.
Polanco needs to work on properly wiping the sweat off his brow.

Besides, Rutherford needs time to evaluate him before promoting him, right? ;)

    GO BUCS !!

  12. Thundercrack says:

    ‘Huntington loves a stage.’ ??

Are we talking about the same Huntington?

  13. Maz in Iowa says:

Another SS: Jorge, Nelson International Baseball Academy (Puerto Rico) SS S/R HS 5’11” 175lbs DOB: 12/14/95

  14. NMR says:

Zero credibility for chosing Gatewood over Tucker at shortstop.

As if articles about “winning” a draft before it’s even over is worth reading in the first place. SI thanks you for the clicks, though!

  15. cmat0829 says:

do they have an archive? any way we can see if their instant ‘winners and losers’ actually hold up 4-5-6 years later? SI is as bad as ESPN… zero analysis so they go for stuff like power rankings, grades, etc. to provoke debate.

I’d be saying this even if they said “WINNERS – Pirates; LOSERS – Everyone else”…. Just sayin.

  16. Only if the stage is in an empty theater and hidden behind curtains in case the janitor walks in!

Gregory Polanco has probably secretly been on the Pirate roster for 3 days!!

  17. cmat0829 says:

lol, the next time NH makes any announcement 3-4 days ahead of time, as a ‘staged event’ will be the first. Much more likely they wait til they see Polanco in the clubhouse before they actually make the announcement.

  18. Thundercrack says:

‘Here are the winners and losers from the first day of the draft:’

Looks like they are evaluating the first day – – not the whole draft.
Which happens for every draft in every sport.

  19. Brandie says:

What a freakin day. Heads exploding everywhere, Jim Rutherford comes out of nowhere, Dan Bylsma terminated, no Poblano Guy to make his debut (Grumble Grumble Grumble…Grouse Grouse Grouse).

  21. Brandie says:

    How’s Wirfin USA doing?

  22. Maz in Iowa says:

I guess I should have said”Huntington stubbornly wants to show he will not be pushed into a corner by fans/media …no matter the cost/consequences.I almost think he’d sacrifice the season to show he’s in charge…NO ONE ELSE!”

  23. Brandie says:

I miss him too Groats N Honey. :(

  24. Maz in Iowa says:

    Wirfin than the day before!

  25. 21sthebest says:

I’m afraid now that Baseball America will drop our organizational rating to No. 2.

  26. Maz in Iowa says:

    Howdy Brandie

  27. Brandie says:

Maybe he needs to be sent to the Wirf Village to defend them from Gargamel?

  29. Carlos Danger says:

  30. Milo Hamilton says:

Hey all. A little new data on my latest cause. Really interesting data.

  31. JohninOshkosh says:

Don’t know about Pittsburgh, but weather here is gorgeous.

It’s a great night for baseball. It’s a great night to boo the Brewers. Every. Last. One. Of. Them.

  32. JohninOshkosh says:

Anybody sitting in center. Feel free to give Carlos Gomez a beer shower. Blog community will pitch in to post bail.

  33. Maz in Iowa says:

Bucs have drafted 2 catchers….3 RF…..2 SS the rest pitchers thru 8 rounds

  34. Maz in Iowa says:

I guess they don’t see a need for a 3B/1B for the next few years.Hmm

  35. Arriba Wilver says:

Does Front Row Amy travel with the team? ;-)

  36. Arriba Wilver says:

NOBODY drafts first basemen. (Almost nobody)

  37. Maz in Iowa says:

    Pirates…Dickerson 3 years ago Indiana U

  38. Maz in Iowa says:

Connor Joe has 2 years at 1st.One year at C

  39. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m up to date on GoT, John. Certainly some surprises. They better not kill off the wrong character.

Would have never thought at the beginning that Jamie and the Hound would end up being “likeable” guys.

And what’s up with the Mayor from the Wire? Lots of stuff goin’ on.

  40. Arriba Wilver says:

How’s that workin’ out? They moved him to the outfield, then moved him.

  41. Maz in Iowa says:

BTW who do the Pirates have as a “real” prospect at 1B in the minors?

  42. Arriba Wilver says:

So did they draft a first baseman or not?

  43. Maz in Iowa says:

Nonetheless he was drafted as a first basemen.Correct?

  44. Arriba Wilver says:

    Not the Dickerson they drafted.

  45. Chuck H says:

I give up on Polanco being on the Pirate roster any time soon-maybe next spring. Meanwhile, the Brewers are loaded from the top to the bottom of their lineup. Even their pitchers can bunt when called for.

  46. Maz in Iowa says:

    Gotta admit…..I don’t know(shrugs shoulders)

  47. Maz in Iowa says:

He was a DH/1B at Indiana

  48. Maz in Iowa says:

My point AW is the Pirates have struggled to find a serviceable 1B for years(unless you count a couple years of Jones)

  49. Arriba Wilver says:

That wasn’t fair of me, Maz. There’s a history here on this subject, and I was playing.

But, seriously, I do think it’s rare to draft someone as a first baseman. Unless their name is Dick Stuart.

  50. Arriba Wilver says:

But he’s not with the Bucs anymore.

  51. Carlos Danger says:

I heart the mother of dragons.

  52. Maz in Iowa says:

Exactly my point.People say you can turn a 3B/OF into a 1B.Then why haven’t the Pirates been able to do that?

  53. Arriba Wilver says:

    Yeah . . .

  54. Maz in Iowa says:

    :) :) I grew up watching Pops…Robertson..heck even Bream.

  55. cmat0829 says:

LaRoche. Moss. Jones (I guess). Morneau. Overbay. Problem is they all end up doing MUCH BETTER after they leave than when they were in Pittsburgh. No idea why… is 1B cursed for us post -Willie Stargell?

  56. Arriba Wilver says:

I guess I got myself into this.

Adam Laroache, no matter what you think of his frustrating splits, was a more than serviceable first baseman, and he was picked up by Littlefield. I have no idea what he was drafted as, but probably a first baseman because I can’t imagine him playing anywhere else.

  57. cmat0829 says:

BIG GAME TONIGHT… important 1st game of a series, 1st game of a homestand…set the tone against those creeps from Beertown…

to be honest, 28-31 despite a pretty awful starting rotation and general failure of Starling Marte is not a bad place for this team right now…. now is when they need to get it together and make a move. Bullpen is back on track. Polanco is coming. But starting pitching is so very key and still the part of this team that is holding them back vs. propelling them forward.

Tough test — PNC Park effect vs the slugging Brewers… good yardage stick for Pirates progress this weekend….

btw, with Cumpton’s MO to bust inside, do you think Gomez is HBP in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd at bat….or all three? and how with Carlos’ react?

  58. Karen22 says:

    Especially FRAUD!

  59. cmat0829 says:

oh and maybe that’s why Snider is still on the roster…he is the designated “Brewer basher” if benches clear…. then they won’t care how long the suspension is for

  60. JohninOshkosh says:

    The surprises, AW! My eyes!

Looking forward to “Masters of Sex” coming back. Lizzy Caplan!

  61. Arriba Wilver says:

Don’t forget Scoop. He was a better 1B than Robertson, but could also play the outfield (and probably anywhere else but pitcher and catcher). ;-)

  62. Arriba Wilver says:

    Now there’s a theory . . . ;-)

  63. Maz in Iowa says:

Yeah he was serviceable.Just not reliable.Decent glove. He had that Pedro thing though.Where he never seem to get very excited.I acquiesce. On to the next discussion.Didn’t mean to beat a dead horse…ever though I did!

  64. cmat0829 says:

oh what i’d pay to watch lunchie go to town on carlos’ smug mug……

  65. Arriba Wilver says:

    Uh huh.

  66. Arriba Wilver says:

I was totally blindsided by the Iain Glen twist.

  67. Maz in Iowa says:

Could be a “home run admiring…pound on my chest….bat flippin Friday.Yes?No?Maybe?

  68. We drafted a guy from near Drew’s abode. Florida Gulf Coast U., they of NCAA fame.

  69. Arriba Wilver says:

I always liked Lizzy, too, going back to Mean Girls. Something about her.

  70. Pops was a converted OF.

  71. cmat0829 says:

good stuff Milo I only use the eye test and it just seems to me the Pirates shift is having less success this year than it did last year. I also dont know why more players don’t bunt when batting leadoff to try to put this shift back in the box, but my bad, players have zero ability to bunt anymore so there’s that.

but it sees odd that on one hand analytics is driving the shifts but they are ignoring data in terms of effectiveness. Counterintuitive.

  72. Did anyone draft the kid from Blackhawk?

  73. cmat0829 says:

no, god help me if that a-hole hits a HR.

  74. Carlos Danger says:

I thought you were talkin about me for a minute…

  75. Carlos Danger says:

I don’t think so. At least not yet.

  76. 21sthebest says:

    Not yet.

  77. Dom says:

That draft was horrible! Some say we took the 80+ best prospect with the 24th overall pick.

  78. JohninOshkosh says:

  79. Arriba Wilver says:

    Is it over?

  80. JohninOshkosh says:

Can be very funny yet convey that wonderful feminine ability to exude aloofness and indifference with a hint of condemnation. A la a Kristen Stewart.

    Absolutely irresistible!

  81. JohninOshkosh says:

    * ala

  82. Milo Hamilton says:

Polanco just led off the game in Syracuse with a home run. I’ll have no further comment.

  83. cmat0829 says:

so if Marte has a Partay… what does Polanco have?

  84. cmat0829 says:

I just shake my head at major league players complaining about the sun WHILE NOT WEARING SUNGLASSES.

  85. Milo Hamilton says:

    Probably a headache. ;)

  86. cmat0829 says:

Segura pulls a Marte on that SB attempt. Why would he hesitate and look back at that stage of the attempt?

  87. JohninOshkosh says:

Ha! Never boring in your town, is it ?

Even Kenny Rosenthal was engaging in mental gymnastics on Twitter struggling to figure out why the Pirates hadn’t called him up.

Good to see you! Are you avoiding the annoying video launch on the Morning Javas ? I am considering that as well. Just too damn annoying at work.

  88. cmat0829 says:

Maybe we need to contact John Sterling for help on Greg Brown’s HR calls for GP…..

    Maybe El Coffee percolates?
El Coffee puts a JOLT into one?
Make that a VENTI for Polanco?

    Reaching here….

  89. Dom says:

I think that there is one more day.

  90. Andrew says:

The bus will drop him off on the way back to Indianapolis from Allentown.

  91. Patrick(ri) says:

J hay is the man,. Nice “steal.”

  92. Milo Hamilton says:

You too John. Quite a day around here alright. Yes, that video interferes with what I’m trying to listen to with every refresh. And there’s no point in hanging around if you can’t refresh.

  93. 21sthebest says:

Good news. Pretty soon we’ll be hearing about millionaire golfers complaining about a really tough U.S. Open golf course.

  94. cmat0829 says:

CUTCH ‘hammers one’ that Gomez misplays just enough… JayHey made a mistake to tag there but scores anyway on the poor relay from Gomez …1-0 good guys.

  95. Patrick(ri) says:

What else could you ask of a lead off hitter in this context? He has the Brewers back on their heels (of course, with help from cutch).

  96. cmat0829 says:

Russell MUSCLES one to left center, scoring Cutch… 2-0 good guys….

  97. Milo Hamilton says:

I heard they were closing all the factories down.

  98. Andrew says:

Are you on a computer or mobile device?

  99. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Exactly. This is a guy that has repeatedly not done anything for PR.

He sticks to his game plan regardless of the outcry.

Like it or not, he sticks to his guns

  100. cmat0829 says:

indeed. so with polanco working on being leadoff, is there a scenario that he DOES NOT hit leadoff next week when he is here? JayHey LF -Polanco RF – Cutch CF is a good 1-2-3.

  101. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Wth happened to him anyways?

  102. Andrew says:

So the graduations hang on the wall, but they never really helped us at all.

  103. JRay3 says:

Could not ask for a better start. JHay certainly complicating matters with his superb play, great problem to have.

  104. Milo Hamilton says:

On my laptop at home now. My issues are during the day on the work computer.

  105. Patrick(ri) says:

    Mistake? Why?

  106. JohninOshkosh says:

Not a big deal on my phone. Killer on laptop at work, though.

  107. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Because most guys that the shift is used on are the power hitters.

I’m sure teams wouldn’t mind if Pedro bunted to get on base

  108. Patrick(ri) says:

+++!Switch JHay and Polanco and I agree.

  109. Cobra39 says:

Still no Polanco, Nutting still cheap. Nothing new in Bucco-land.

  110. cmat0829 says:

he plays the way i want marte to play…energy, fun, all-out do whatever it takes….. and marte , at least right now, is just the polar opposite of that. maybe jayhey will lead show marte the way (back to the partay)

  111. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Steve Pearce

  112. Andrew says:

What browser, chrome, firefox, Safari, or explorer?

  113. cmat0829 says:

if cutch’s ball were caught, 2 outs in the inning. not a ton of reward by tagging and going to 3rd especially with uber-control pitcher like Lohse on the hill. If you go halfway and Gomez doesnt catch it, you walk home. I’m nitpicking I know. But to me it was a mistake.

  114. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I root for most former Buccos.

Aramis Rameriez is not one of them

  115. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

And the shift ends a double play.

  116. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Marte doesn’t play with energy?

  117. cmat0829 says:

Fun inning there… no bat flip from Gomez on his 100 foot pop up to right field (though JayHey made that one an adventure)… and the shift demonstrably turns a base hit into a DP for the good guys… 2-0 mid 2.

  118. 21sthebest says:

  119. Milo Hamilton says:

  120. cmat0829 says:

i see no visual evidence that he plays the game the way JayHey does. Yes, he has speed, but doesn’t get good secondary leads and jump on a ball in the dirt like JayHey did there. Lately he just seems listless, though i realize he is in a bad slump and no one likes to play the game when it is kicking your ass.

  121. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Cumpton needs a good comeback outing here.

    So far so good.

    I like what he brings

  122. Andrew says:

Not sure of your setup, if you are allowed to download add-ons to Firefox.

But you can download Flash Control, which will disable the autoplay.

  123. cmat0829 says:

he does what most pitchers do not… pitch inside and take control of that part of the plate. I like that. He will need to adjust if the opponents start to look for that and get their hands out, but if they do that, he can get ‘em with the slider.

  124. Andrew says:

    Same here.

  125. Steelag70 says:

Interesting back story on Cole Tucker…Jay Bell’s son played 2B on that same HS team, and Tucker played for former Bucco Kevin Young…..

  126. cmat0829 says:

NOTE TO ROOT SPORTS… do NOT put up High School and College Stats on draft picks…. they are irrelevant. If any HS player has an average lower than .400, they suck.

Put up scouting reports, highlights, bio type stuff.. but keep the stats please.

  127. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

His speed makes up for a lack of a secondary lead or “jump.”

The slump may be a factor, but when he’s on his game, he’s the most exciting player on the team.

  128. Milo Hamilton says:

Thanks Andrew. Only thing is, will it affect something else I need.

  129. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

It doesn’t help that I can’t even spell is name

  130. Maz in Iowa says:

“So where is Polanco batting in the the order”he said snarkily.

  131. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

They have to work both sides of the plate.

But you’re right, he can’t live inside or be predictable.

I like his slider. Looks like it has late movement, very difficult to pick up.

I hope he’s a a good #3 or 4 pitcher over the next few years.

  132. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

And I hope they don’t show any highlights of him playing.

  133. cmat0829 says:

    too late.

  134. Carlos Danger says:

    Clear the deck!

  135. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

You hang em, we bang em

  136. Patrick(ri) says:

    There we go.

  137. Steelag70 says:

  138. cmat0829 says:

    cole-morton-cumpton and pray for ….

  139. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

So annoying….same with their stats. What does that prove?

    All sarcastic

  140. Maz in Iowa says:

  141. cmat0829 says:

Cutch is heating up…. after the shift took away Neil’s single, Cutch settles for a solo shot.

  142. Milo Hamilton says:

That centerfielder of ours is pretty good.

  143. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

It’s going to be interesting the next few years.

A lot of money coming off the books after this season.

If they don’t pick up a David Price, like DK mentioned, I expect them to be active this off season.

Still young arms in the minors even after Taillion’s injury.

  144. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I actually see Morton as 3 and Cumpton as 4

  145. Brandie says:

Polanco Spanko! (Homerun Call) Gotta prepare!

  146. Patrick(ri) says:

Looks like he has had enough. Isn’t that the second change up he has drilled for a HR recently?

  147. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Cumpton makes Braun look like a little leaguer.

Good pitching beats good hitting any day of the week.

  148. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    That sounds too kinky.

    I like it

  149. Carlos Danger says:

    Polanco-donk? Just spitballin here.

  150. Patrick(ri) says:

And lousy umpiring beats good pitching.

  151. Milo Hamilton says:

Getting squeezed like this isn’t helping.

  152. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

And those 2 hits shows what happens when the pitcher makes mistakes

  153. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I don’t ever blame the umps, it’s a cop out.

  154. Brandie says:

Polanco and Take it to the Bank-o!

  155. cmat0829 says:

Blass on Gomez: “He just begs you to dislike him, doesn’t he”… Yes, Steve, yes.

  156. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Every team has scouting reports on tv umps as well.

    Part of their game plan

  157. Andrew says:

It makes Flash Player, click to play, so any other website like youtube or streaming sites that use Flash, the media will not auto-play.

An icon will appear, and you can right click to play, or even left click and select the option to Allow “current website,” so Flash will be allowed to auto-play when that domain is opened in the future.

I haven’t had any problems when using Firefox at work and the Add-on installed, but if it causes critical problems it is easily disable or removed.

  158. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I can’t root for an adult named Scooter

  159. Steelag70 says:

    Come on Cumpton….

  160. cmat0829 says:

I love it…. keep the ideas coming… I’m pretty sure it’s pronounced PO-LAWN-CO…so far that means Po-lawn-ca-donk is the leader in the clubhouse….

  161. Patrick(ri) says:

Perhaps not, but Blass & Brown do.

  162. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Spoke too soon on Cumton perhaps.

End it now and he’s still ok

  163. Steelag70 says:

Locke pulled from his scheduled start at Indy tonight…

  164. Steelag70 says:

Can we get any starter past 5 innings anymore aside from Cole Train???

  165. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  166. Milo Hamilton says:

Jaff Decker also pulled after a couple AB’s.

  167. Patrick(ri) says:

Not a bad walk, if he can handle The “better hitting pitcher.”

  168. cmat0829 says:

Jaff is coming up!!!! Jaff is coming up…oh, screw it.

  169. Andrew says:

    Well got out of that.

  170. cmat0829 says:

    and he barely so.

  171. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

He didn’t even do it his last outing

  172. Patrick(ri) says:

++. Imagine Rooting for Pee Wee Reese!

  173. cmat0829 says:

deep breath. exhale. that inning had my skin crawling… Gomez and Ramirez making us pay…. ok, calming down now….

  174. Carlos Danger says:

Tell me can can you handle this polanco-donk bat.

  175. Flbucco says:

So would the Rays take Polanco for Price – straight up

    Just askin’

  176. cmat0829 says:

  177. Carlos Danger says:

Is it a family name? Or short for Scootercrunch?

  178. cmat0829 says:

Seth Meyers has more command of baseball than Tim Neverett… can we swap em?

  179. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Nice play by Mercer and he’s out

  180. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I agree, but I think he’s going places

  181. cmat0829 says:

Lyin Ryan strikes again… he was clearly out and he wastes our time on that call….. nice play by Mercer.

  182. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Every spring I wish I lived back in Pittsburgh. From spring through fall it’s amazing. Then winter hits. I hate snow.

    Love and miss that place

  183. cmat0829 says:

Nice comeback inning by Cumpton, was worried with the top of the order up but Brandon back on track… lets GET SOME RUNS

  184. casper in a-town says:

Classic. When Seth Meyers was signing off, he said if Gregory Polanco isn’t in Pittsburgh next time he’s in the booth, he’s blaming Brown and Blass. Awesome stuff. He clearly reads the blog.

  185. cmat0829 says:

MERCER MERCER ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we can only get Marte back on track the way Mercer has…..

  186. 21sthebest says:

  187. JRay3 says:

Wow certainly like this version of Jordy Mercer.

Actually looks like a hitter all of a sudden.

  188. Brandie says:

MERCER!!!! Then a walk to Cumpton!

  189. cmat0829 says:

love me some seth meyers… .very sharp… also love the slow-mo on the Mercer HR and how the lady lost her phone in the process….

  190. Maz in Iowa says:

    That Mercer guy is alright

  191. cmat0829 says:

glad I’m not the GM, Mercer would have been in Indy for 3 weeks, and we’d be stuck with Barmes at SS.

  192. Brandie says:

    Polanco Po-launches It!

  193. Carlos Danger says:

    Where are you at Ryan?

  194. Barb says:

Way to go RealDeal. Love it!

  195. Carlos Danger says:

That was a solid sequence of events.

  196. Brandie says:

Cumpton chugging around third was hysterical. 5-2 Good guys. Thank you RDNW!

  197. Maz in Iowa says:

    Well well well

  198. Reading says:

Brewers have same number style as Ravens. Another reason to not like them.

  199. Reading says:

    Can Polanco play first?

  200. Flbucco says:

So what r our thoughts on the great 1st base solution now?

  201. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Jordy Mercer is just keeping SS warm until Cole Tucker is ready.

He’ll be 21-22 when Jordy leaves for free agency.

    Well planned draft NH

  202. Patrick(ri) says:

Me, too. A very pleasant development. Kudos to the BMTIB.

  203. Carlos Danger says:

    Polanco p-lastered that ball!

  204. Andrew says:

    Crucial inning for Cumpton.

  205. Reading says:

Tired of easy flairs to the outfield.

  206. Maz in Iowa says:

Hmm that Pacheco…..Potanco….Palooka guy threw out a runner at home.Too bad the Bucs don’t need a laser arm in RF

  207. Andrew says:

Didn’t name themselves the Best for nothing.

  208. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

A full 6 innings would’ve been nice, Cumpton had a nice bounce back outing.

    I’ll take it

  209. pattonbb says:

Yea, but his foot work was really awkward when rounded 2b. A couple more months and he’ll be ready.

  210. Barb says:

    Hi ya Brandecita.

  211. Maz in Iowa says:

    Stolmy 3 scoreless innings w/5 K

  212. Milo Hamilton says:

    The Fight Doctor ?

  213. Reading says:

Don’t kid yourself. Dude’s not ready yet.

  214. chethejet1 says:

Single section has a great ratio it seems. Always thought about going to a mostly womens college. But none were around in my day.

  215. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Signs of good pitching actually

  216. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Would’ve like to have seen a Tabby bunt here

  217. Steelag70 says:

    Very nice AB for Pedro….

  218. Milo Hamilton says:

    A little duck snort.

  219. Steelag70 says:

    Turnabout is fair play….

  220. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    That works too

  221. Patrick(ri) says:

    A Freddy “filet” from Tabata!

  222. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Really like him

  223. Andrew says:

Keep scoring, you never know what is going to happen against the Brewers.

  224. SteelerMI says:

does anyone know what in the world Tabata has done to his batting helmet?

  225. Reading says:

    Look out!! Lohse is mad!!

  226. Reading says:

I don’t think so. A sign of weak hitting. Lohse not on tonight.

  227. JRay3 says:

Some really good pieces of hitting this inning, first Pedro going opposite field and than Tabata doing a nice job to make contact and get the flair to fall in.

Bucs doing a lot better job at the little things of late and the bullpen certainly looks like it has regained its form. Recipe for making a move.

  228. Carlos Danger says:

Yeah boys. This is fun to watch.

  229. Maz in Iowa says:

  230. JRay3 says:

Mercer has to be the hottest hitting SS in all of MLB.

RBI knock and Buccos offense continues to pour it on, 7-3 good guys.

  231. Maz in Iowa says:

    Pine tar

  232. Brandie says:

Good. The Good Guys need to take it to the Brewers and the despised Rickie Weeks!

  233. Steelag70 says:

Now if only the starting pitching could get things in gear….

  234. Reading says:

The Governor is having some control problems.

  235. Steelag70 says:

    Lawdy, lawdy Mr. Jawdy!!

  236. Rock Ain't Dead says:

I don’t recall ever disliking another baseball team the way I detest these Brewers.

Somebody needs to kick the $@#% out of Gomez.

  237. JRay3 says:

Bases juiced nobody out…keep adding on against these guys.

No other team I would want to see the Pirates rout.

  238. Reading says:

    Harrison at Clemente’s career average.

  239. Brandie says:

This is way too much fun!

  240. Carlos Danger says:

It is pretty bad when Braun is the 2nd most hated player on the field.

  241. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Bullpen is money right now if the pitcher can get them through even just 5 innings.

They won’t be perfect, but very very good

  242. JRay3 says:

RBI for JHay for looking at 4 straight balls. 8 ER in 5 IP for Lohse as Bucs took it to him.

  243. Brandie says:

What about the Reds, Cards, or Yankees?

  244. JRay3 says:

Should of said rather see rout….Milwaukee tops the list.

  245. Patrick(ri) says:

Nuts. Nice pitch to strike out Walker. Late sink.

  246. Maz in Iowa says:

There were a few people on this blog wanting to send Jordy Joe to Indy recently.Guess this might change a few minds

  247. Reading says:

Letting dude off the hook. Come on Man!

  248. Carlos Danger says:

Man. Solid game. But those last 2 at bats were really deflating.

  249. Reading says:

    No weak flyball!

  250. Steelag70 says:

  251. Barb says:

    Russell Martin YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  252. Reading says:

    Beatdown time!! Clutch!!

  253. JRay3 says:

Martin powers a bases clearing double and it’s 12-3 Bucs, having fun tonight with this laugher.

  254. Brandie says:

  255. Milo Hamilton says:

Save some for tomorrow ! Sorry, had to channel my dad there for a second.

  256. Reading says:

They might want to take Gomez out.

  257. JRay3 says:

I believe the Pirates are sending a message that they still have to be taken seriously in the NL Central.

  258. Patrick(ri) says:

Sweet revenge. Not to mention a serious hit with the bases loaded!!!

  259. JRay3 says:

And about that lead off HR Polanco hit? I jest.

  260. Rock Ain't Dead says:

    I love Russell Martin

    and donuts….

  261. JRay3 says:

Tabata another hit and RBI this half inning, 8 run 6th, 13-3 Buccos!

  262. Reading says:

Dude definitely taking one for the team now.

  263. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Really need his offense

  264. Milo Hamilton says:

Some Young Guy is warming up.

  265. Reading says:

Rule 5 guy up throwing now. Might be 20-3 shortly.

  266. Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Save NOTHING. Blow these guys out.

    Totally different pitching tomorrow

  267. JRay3 says:

    Bucs might score 20.

  268. Andrew says:

Couldn’t score a season high against a better team.

  269. Rock Ain't Dead says:

Good point. It would be easy to take a shot at him now.

Not that I advocate that type of thing…

    Lurch: “you rang?”

  270. Carlos Danger says:

Jeanmar still scares me, but I feel like a 10 run cushion should be enough that even he can hold the lead. Hopefully.

  271. Milo Hamilton says:

Jeanmar in line for his 1st major league save.

  272. Maz in Iowa says:

Hurdle must be the president of the Snider fan club.At least it’s fairly safe to play him now

  273. So, an 8-run inning. I turn my back and it’s 13-3. Guess I’ll turn it more often.

An 8-run game sounds good the way the pitching has been lately.

  274. Milo Hamilton says:

There was a perfect opportunity for Snider to pull a hamstring & then all of our problems are solved.

  275. Brandie says:

I agree Revenheimer. Besides, I think the Pirates needed to exorcise some demons.

  276. Brandie says:

Love your wry sense of humor Migh-lowe!

  277. You certainly aren’t referring to the Brewers as demons are you?

  278. Brandie says:

Or is that Rule 5 Guy throwing up now?

  279. Maz in Iowa says:

This is way better than the 11 runs they scored on them in April

  280. Brandie says:

Maybe. ;) Especially Cryin’ Brain and Ickie Leaks!

  281. Milo Hamilton says:

I was thinking more of a convenience list type of thing. Nothing sinister of course.

  282. Reading says:

Too bad Polanco couldn’t have participated in the beatdown. Would have been a great debut.

  283. Maz in Iowa says:

    Easy like Sunday morning

  284. Milo Hamilton says:

Ron Roenicke must get paid per on field appearances. He is ridiculous.

  285. Baywatch says:

  286. Maz in Iowa says:

Happiest fan base in the world!!

  287. Rock Ain't Dead says:

Let’s run the ball and get outta here.

  288. Maz in Iowa says:

Snider on base THREE times.Shut the front door!

  289. Milo Hamilton says:

Just saw this little note. Mark Appel has a 6.02 ERA in 52 minor league innings and has been placed on the Class A inactive list. Sorry, but I find that absolutely hysterical.

  290. Maz in Iowa says:

Lager losers need 2 touchdowns to win

  291. Milo Hamilton says:

So Marte struggling because of the AAA at bats he didn’t get 3 years ago has to be the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard.

  292. Maz in Iowa says:

Josh Bell(.311)hits HR #6.Seems to have high A figured out.Promote him after AS break

  293. Lad 9 says:

Raise it! Losing by 10 couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.

  294. tdb1977 says:

Yup. If he is missing those AB’s – then send him back down and bring Polanco up :)

  295. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  296. Carlos Danger says:

Russell Martin might win the Sidney Crosby award for saying all the right things, yet saying nothing at all, in his post game comments.

  297. Rock Ain't Dead says:

That was straight out of the Crash Davis play book.

  298. This is the most that the Pirates have scored vs.anyone in ages! I only hope that this isn’t all they’ll do vs.the Brewers this weekend, considering that they’ve seldom done much against them recently.

  299. John Lease says:

I relished that post like a piece of the most succulent cherry pie.

Some trolls were assuring each other that the Pirates were really going to make that move today, they’d show that they were in the know.

Too bad the Billy Goats Gruff knocked them back under their prospective bridge…

  300. John Lease says:

I wouldn’t mind either. Let him get on a 10-10 roll bunting it up the third base line.

  301. DemonDachshund says:

According to the TV broadcast, only 252 more at bats until Polanco’s ready!

  302. Steelag70 says:

The depths to which this team creates excuses to keep from bringing players up is amazing…

  303. John Lease says:

Ooh, I kind of relish that too. Thanks for posting Milo.

  304. Karen22 says:

Sometimes you win…sometimes you lose…sometimes – it rains.

  305. Karen22 says:

We obviously don’t need him anymore…see ya in 2015…

  306. Bill maloni says:

All of the flip answers suggest that nobody, recently, has read “The Plan.”

Everything you want to know about Polanco is in “The Plan,” somewhere.

Yesterday’s mystery choices, Moskos over Wieters, Appel, no Cuban signees, Polanco….it’s all there.

It’s all there, just trust the BMTIB.

  307. Dejan,

If you visit here, wanted to let you know that I really appreciated your column on Rutherford. It helped.

I really liked Jim Rutherford . . . . 5 years ago. Recently . . . . it seemed game was moving faster than he.
I mean, Jussi Jokinen played almost for free for the Pens this year courtesy of Rutherford.

Your column gave me some perspective, patience, and hope. And I really like the Jason Botterill Associate GM thingee.

All this aggravation could have been avoided if Sid had shown up in Rangers’ series. Even if he only showed up in Games 5-6-7. A whole organ-I-zation overthrown and lives changed because one guy didn’t show up for Games 5-6-7.

  308. If I ever visit here, I’d say thanks, Groat. Heard that from a bunch of readers today and, honestly, it’s a little surprising. Thought this angle was painfully self-evident at that press conference. Once I asked a few questions afterward and felt better about some things I hadn’t liked, it was easy.

  309. Oh, and hey, there’s a thread up for this now.

  310. Cmat0829 says:

Yep. Couldn’t happen to a douchier guy.
