>> What we’re talking about: Pirates, Penguins, Steelers, you name it.

>> How to participate: Each week, we also take comments that viewers submit to The Final Word’s Facebook page and Twitter account.

Comments

  1. Reading says:

Giants walkoff. Running away with the NL.

  2. Tonalist denied California Chrome the Triple Crown yesterday, the Kings won last night in double overtime, and Jeff Locke will start today’s game in place of Charlie Morton. And, hopefully, the 2013 Pirates will show up vs. the Brewers this afternoon in place of the team that made 5 errors and lost 9-3 yesterday.

  3. Well, at least the Riverhounds won their first soccer game yesterday and the Power won in Arena Football last night so all wasn’t lost this past Saturday.p

  4. Colin Dunlap pronounces Jason Botterill the real winner in the Pens GM sweepstakes since he’ll likely follow 65 year old Jim Rutherford in a couple of years.

  5. And Bucs Manager Clint Hurdle doesn’t rule out placing Gerrit Cole on the DL due to shoulder fatigue. As if that’s the last thing the Pirates need.

  6. Arriba Wilver says:

Headed to the game today to see Locke and the Sunday lineup.

    I’m SO excited. ;-)

  7. Eric Bowser says:

Major league hitters don’t like the defensive shifts that many teams are employing now but too bad. Maybe guys need to learn how to hit the other way and not be so pull happy.

  8. Eric Bowser says:

Pirates need David Price…. time for them to make a move.

  9. The Gunner says:

    Eric

David Price would be nice, the BMTIB certainly has the $ to pay him. Regarding Gerrit Cole, that is awful news – he is the best starter we have.

  10. Maz in Iowa says:

    Polanco held hostage-Day lll

  11. Brandie says:

And You Just Can’t Hide It.

You’re About To Lose Control And You Think You Like It!

  12. Maz in Iowa says:

    Pointer Sisters? :)

  13. Brandie says:

    What’s is this about Cole?

  14. Maz in Iowa says:

    BRANDIE!!!

  15. Brandie says:

    Never Mind. Damn!

  16. Brandie says:

Meant that about Cole not you MAZ!!!!!!

  17. Maz in Iowa says:

    Brilliant minds think alike

  18. Maz in Iowa says:

    He’s so shy. :)

  19. Baywatch says:

DK: Neal, did you read my article about trading for David Price?
    NH: No.
DK: (Shaking his head, hands him the PRINT edition, and he opens it up and reads it, in front of DK, like Branch Rickey or somebody)
NH: (Picks up phone, presses the RED BUTTON) “Bob! Shut down 7 Springs for a week! Gonna need some of that BIG money! And we’re parachuting Polanco in for the Sunday crowd!

  20. The Gunner says:

Young Locke better bring his “A+” game today & the offense better show up – the Buccos really need to win today!!!

  21. Maz in Iowa says:

If Polanco gets promoted I do the “Neutron Dance” :)

  22. JohninOshkosh says:

Djokovic takes first set, 6-3, from Nadal at Roland Garros. Rafa did not go easily to close out the set, though.

This thing has 5 sets written all over it. Djokovic playing well. Rafa always a factor on clay, even when not at 100%.

  23. Maz in Iowa says:

Over/Under on Locke throwing under 5 BB

  24. The Gunner says:

    AW

I was at the game on Friday night, sat in section 117. In about the 7th inning, none other than our revered team President, Frank Coonelly was standing about 20 feet away from me. I nudged my wife & she recognized him, too. He turned around and looked in my direction, we made eye contact, and I waved to him. He smiled and waved back to me. Interestingly, Frank had a drink in his hand that looked like lemonade or watered down orange juice.

  25. The Gunner says:

    Definitely over, Maz

  26. Maz in Iowa says:

Not too good of a weekend.Beatdown yesterday….Bad news about Cole……No Polanco sighting(who knows how this plays out)

  27. bpn8pitt says:

Kinda stunned Boo Vasquez was not draftee yesterday. Still a Jr, so he has a chance to come back next year strong. I imagine part of the reason was he probably wouldnt go for the low bonuses in the later rounds and teams went after prep players instead. Good player, who faced good pitching this year.

Starkeys column was a tough read. The point about the innings is very fair.

  28. Maz in Iowa says:

    Josh Harrison RF
    Neil Walker 2B
    Andrew McCutchen CF
    Gaby Sanchez 1B
    Russell Martin C
    Pedro Alvarez 3B
    Starling Marte LF
    Jordy Mercer SS
    (Jeff Locke P)

  29. Maz in Iowa says:

Not the typical Sunday lineup.Thank God!!!

  30. Maz in Iowa says:

Cubs in town Monday.Currently on a 5 game winning streak

  31. Sarah says:

Well I had a sense it was over when NBC had to show Joker vomiting in slow-mo.

Nadal is simply a beast on that stuff.

  32. Sarah says:

Well, if Colin said that, it’s confirmed the Pens are going after Babcock!!

Let’s have Rossi give another imaginary “sit-down” with JR and DM and we’ll get the true inside story!!!

Seriously outside of a very few including our DK, the local media is a joke on Pens coverage. Save yourself and avoid reading Ron Cook’s take on the GM situation. Really embarrassing.

  33. JohninOshkosh says:

Just incredible, Sarah. Never see a person dominate the clay like that again.

Now, they all turnaround and have to adjust to grass.

  34. Sarah says:

It’s a tremendous change ! These athletes are so incredible!

I think we will see that little waterbug, Simona Halep, make a good adjustment. She moves about 6 inches above the ground!

For the men, I always like Roger but I think his Sell By date is passing, sadly…..but what a beautiful game!

  35. Sarah says:

Actually, Rossi should probably have been fired for that…..I see the web page has been scrubbed, but it still exists in Google cache.

    Unprofessional in the extreme…..

  36. bpn8pitt says:

    Brandon Moss…smh.

  37. Poole says:

Still Babcock rumors going around… Is it in any way possible to poach him out of Detroit? Through a promotion… Could he become head coach/assistant GM? We already have 3 assistant GMs…what’s one more?
