The joint venture between WPXI-TV and Trib Total Media continues Sunday night at 11:35 p.m. — right after the Channel 11 News — with The Subway Final Word.

>> Who’s on the panel: I’ll join Alan Robinson, the Trib’s Steelers beat man, and Mark Madden, radio host on 105.9 the X. The host will be WPXI-TV’s Alby Oxenreiter.

>> What we’re talking about: Nothing but Chuck Noll, front to finish. As it should be.

>> How to participate: Each week, we also take comments that viewers submit to The Final Word’s Facebook page and Twitter account.

>> Where to watch: In addition to the broadcast on WPXI-TV (811 on Comcast), we have WPXI’s online stream for Pittsburgh’s many out-of-town sports fans.

Here’s last week’s full episode.

Really hope to have you along, not only watching but also joining in!

Don’t know if anyone mentioned it yesterday but one of my favorite Chuck Noll memories was that clip of him running off of the field at halftime during a game. A cameraman was following him and Chuck charged at him and then he smiled at the cameraman and backed off because Chuck was just playing around.

What a rare and spontaneous glimpse I thought that was into that part of his personality while he was working. And I think that few seconds or so said a lot about him.

  2. JohninOshkosh says:

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads on the blog.

  3. Naje says:

That was halftime of Super Bowl XIV vs. the Rams.

Interesting coincidence that NFL Network aired the “America’s Game” programs of the ’74 and ’75 Steelers on Thursday and the ’78 and ’79 Steelers on Friday.

    RIP Chuck Noll.

  4. I still like when he said “There’s a criminal element in pro football” referring to the likes of Jack Tatum, and ended up having to testify at a hearing later. Stood his ground, too, because he was right.

  5. And to you, John.

  6. Brandie says:

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Papas. Miss the originator of “The Glare” Chuck Noll.

To Revvie: Stetson Allie took mighty hacks at the ball to no avail. As to how he looked…thicker than a forest full of Redwoods.

  7. Did you get your picture taken with him like Jandy’s nephew?

  8. Baywatch says:

Happy Father’s Day, Happy Vance Worley Day – and to Brandie, the best moniker-hanger in the UNIverse, Happy Fodder’s Day! :-)

  9. Brandie says:

Thanks Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay!!!! Happy PAPPY DAY to yinz!

  10. chethejet1 says:

Did draft and develop a great team for 8 years. Probably his best coaching years were when the talent was lacking. Knew when to leave and retired to a private life.

  11. Baywatch says:

    +++ :-)

  12. KING says:

Chuck Noll learned from the best Paul Brown & Don Shula. Hiring Chuck Noll might be the smartest thing the Rooneys have done. 4 Super Bowls in 6 years is still impressive 35 years later.

My FAV memory about Chuck Noll & the Steelers was the Rams Super Bowl. The Steelers were losing 19-17 after 3 quarters & things weren’t looking good. Rams did good things offensively but the Steelers made the big plays in the 4th quarter. A refusal to quit & to preservere.

These Pirates are 34-35 now… They have turned the corner & chasing a wildcard. I think the Marlins will fade. Other than Stanton, don’t know who else scares you. We hit their pitching too. Wildcard will be chased by Dodgers,Cards,Pirates, & Reds.

Polanco is a 5 tool player. Pirates should be a World Series contender in 2015. KING
