Teke promises he will be back

Kent Tekulve, the last man to throw a championship-clinching pitch for the Pirates, will miss the rest of this baseball season as Root Sports’ in-studio commentator for ‘personal’ reasons he declined to disclose publicly, but he promised me tonight he will be back.

Ken Macha, the former big-league player and manager out of Monroeville, is replacing Teke, as some of you would have seen on today’s Pirates-Cubs broadcast.

Teke requests that his privacy be respected during this time, but he also asked that I share this much with all of you.

He didn’t ask me to share video of him getting birds to eat out of his hand in 1979, but here’s that, anyway:

  25. Sometimes, considering the current state of Pirates pitching, I wish that Teke was still pitching for them. Anyhow, I hope that he’ll get better soon and be back next season.
