More than two months ago, Sto-Rox junior quarterback Paul Jones received hugs from coach Joe Paterno and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley when he told them he planned to attend Penn State.

Nonetheless, Sto-Rox coach Jason Ruscitto said Jones remains receptive to what other schools have to say. On the other hand, Ruscitto said Jones hasn’t de-committed from Penn State and the school remains one of his options.

“He just wants to make sure he is making the right decision,” Ruscitto said. “He has been upfront with Penn State. They know what is going on.”

Jones’ athleticism and accuracy — he completed 112 of 182 passes last season for 61.5 percent — has made him one of the most coveted players in the WPIAL Class of 2010. He has received scholarship offers from several other Big 10 schools, including Purdue, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Iowa, and Pitt, West Virginia, Cincinnati South Florida and Syracuse of the Big East. Stanford and Duke also are in there pitching. Ruscitto estimated Jones’ total offers at 15.

Jones, 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, threw for 1,973 yards and 21 touchdowns and ran 72 times for 294 yards and five touchdowns to help Sto-Rox finish 8-2 last season. A two-year starter, he led the WPIAL with 20 touchdown passes as a sophomore, completing 113 of 212 for 1,851 yards

“The first thing that stands out is his arm,” Ruscitto said. “People think he is just a pocket passer, but he does have the athleticism to buy time and do a lot of different things.”

Sto-Rox junior wide receiver Andrew Carswell also has offers from several schools, including Clemson, Pitt, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, Maryland, Stanford and Duke.
