Athletes endure a smorgasbord of pain and sacrifice to reach their goals. Now, it’s time for Greensburg Central Catholic running back David Miller to see some results.
Miller is back on the field for the Centurions after dislocating his right knee and spraining the medial collateral ligament not 10 months ago. He’ll be the first to tell you that he was one of the lucky ones.
He didn’t need surgery to repair his knee only three months of rehab, six months of conditioning, some smart, skillful doctors and the will to put it all together.
Miller led the WPIAL in scoring with 208 points and scored 33 touchdowns three short of Max Suter’s school record in less than 10 games before injuring the knee in his team’s first playoff game of 2008. His return is one of the reasons GCC will be one of the favorites to win the WPIAL Class AA football championship this season something that never has happened at the school.
To tell you the truth, the fact that GCC never has won a title is one of the most surprising nuggets of information unearthed by our high school sports staff over the past several weeks. Coach Muzzy Colosimo always has one of the best teams in the area, but he also was unfortunate enough to bring his team to an elite status at the same time Terrelle Pryor was leading Jeannette to championships in 2006 and 2007.
This might be the year for Muzzy and Miller.
