Who follows Grimm from Western Pa. to Canton?

Western Pennsylvania added another of its natives to the Pro Football Hall of Fame this week when Russ Grimm was chosen for enshrinement in Canton. Grimm, a Southmoreland grad, was a member of the Super Bowl-winning Washington Redskins of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

THE LIST: George Blanda, Youngwood; Mike Ditka, Aliquippa ; Tony Dorsett, Hopewell;  Bill George, Waynesburg; Russ Grimm, Southmoreland; Jack Ham, Bishop McCort; Jim Kelly, East Brady; Dan Marino, Central Catholic; Joe Montana, Ringgold; Joe Namath, Beaver Falls; Art Rooney Sr., Duquesne; Dan Rooney, North Catholic; Joe Schmidt, Brentwood; Johnny Unitas, St. Justin’s.

Who could be next? Here are your candidates:

Curtis Martin, Taylor Allderdice – Martin ranks fourth on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 14,101 yards, trailing only Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders. Martin was a five-time Pro Bowl selection. Last season: 2005. HoF eligible: 2011

Bill Cowher, Carlynton – Cowher coached the Steelers for 15 seasons, leading them to 10 playoff berths and eight division titles. Twice the Steelers won the AFC Championship Game under Cowher, including in 2005 when they won Super Bowl XL. It seems likely, though, that Cowher could return to coaching before his Hall of Fame eligibility would arrive. Last season: 2006. HoF eligible: 2012

Ty Law, Aliquippa – Law was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and considered by many as the NFL’s best cornerback during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Law also has three Super Bowl rings from his seasons with the New England Patriots. Last season: active

Jason Taylor, Woodland Hills – Taylor has reached six Pro Bowls including following the 2006 season when he was named Defensive Player of the Year. Taylor holds the NFL record for most fumbles returned for touchdowns (six). Last season: active.
