Ron Everhart must have liked what he saw.
The Duquesne University basketball coach was sitting courtside at Palumbo Center for Friday night’s WPIAL Class AAA championship game. Chartiers Valley’s T.J. McConnell, a Duquesne recruit, scored 34 points to win his first WPIAL title, 63-50, over Hampton. McConnell willed his team to victory. The Dukes could use performances like that from the 6-foot guard when he arrives on campus next year.
Hampton forwards Bill Luther and Tim Donegan were again outstanding, but the Talbots guards couldn’t contain both McConnell and Wayne Capers, who scored 16 points.
